Does anyone live near Savannah, Georgia. I am looking at a piece of property that is about 12 miles south of Savannah (Yes Bob It's a gated community again) that I'm seriously thinking about buying. If I do, I will sell my house in Delaware. If you live in Savannah or have lived there give me a PM. Here is where I'm looking: http://www.thelandings.com/lifestyle/video.cfm

Can you identify what vehicle this gear shift is from? This is not a joke. It's from a friend's Facebook account. He says its not photoshopped other than colour and contrast tweaks (he's a pro photographer). Apparently it's from an abandoned vehicle, all he gave me so far is the location. I asked him for more info, I'll let you know. View full article

What do you get when you add this, this, and this? Which one of these is it? This one: Pic 1, Pic 2; this one: Pic 1, Pic 2; or this one: Pic 1, Pic 2? Now, which of these are more 'true' to the their brands than certain other(s)? So, who knows the answers?

[Cue worst redneck accent:] "It makes me feel like I'm in a jet cockpit when I'm drivin'!" Almost everyone in interviewed in this video is full of fail and is a walking stereotype. Things aren't going rosy red with my Camaro, as I've made vocal elsewhere, and this video now makes me feel ashamed in addition to being already irritated.

Okay... ... for YEARS I've been dealing with bad sinus conditions, FREQUENT sinus infections (to the point of having high fevers, shaking, etc.), constant sinus headaches from not draining, etc. I NEVER blow my nose. No matter how full my head is, nothing ever drains. I've gone to 2 ENTs, and they've both said basically, "you're kinda screwed." So, for the past 2 months, literally, I have not been able to breathe through my nose because of allergies... my sinuses have been full, my head in pain, and nothing is budging. It's hard on my students because when my nose is this full, they can't hear my pronunciation correctly, and it impacts their learning to a degree. …

I just looked up currency rates. Our dollar buys $ 1.10 worth of Canadian dollars. That is unbelievably bad, relatively speaking. When you throw on their taxes, you are right about 1:1. That's horrible. There is no reason to go vacation in Canada right now. Obviously, it's a field day for them coming down into the States to vacation. I remember that, living in Seattle from 1997 through 2000, the US:Canada ratio went to 1.00 : 1.52 once. Crossing the border to vacation or buy things was like stealing...or felt like it!

Car & Driver 10 Best for 2007 Every year the entire Car and Driver staff gathers at a rural site about 30 miles west of our home office in Ann Arbor, Michigan for a week of evaluating all the new cars and, hopefully, avoiding cops. We judge the cars in three general areas: First, how well the car performs its intended functions. We expect sports cars to be fast and exhilarating, while we presume a family sedan will be practical. Second, we show a preference for the more engaging cars in each category; be it better driving manners, a double-take-inducing look, or a powerful engine. Finally, we are suckers for a good deal, so an inexpensive car that’s fast, fun, and …

Okay....I've read a rumor, and maybe you guys have heard it.....that Car & Driver might be leaving Ann Arbor to combine many operations with it's sister mag, Road & Track, in Newport Beach, CA.? At first, I thought "no" because....didn't they just move into new editorial offices in Ann Arbor? Then I read that one of the reasons Csaba Csere (who I've always liked) left C&D at the end of last year was because he didn't like the direction the magazine was taking....and admist rumors that they were leaving Michigan to move to CA to combine many operations with R&T (which would make some economic sense considering they are both owned by the same publisher..…

So MSN hosted Car & Drivers Truck Rankings from Worst to Best and I find much the information as expected but have to question their #1 Truck. http://www.msn.com/en-us/autos/autos-trucks/every-full-size-truck-ranked-from-worst-to-first/ss-BBkumMw?ocid=UP94DHP#image=1 When they even state that the Porky F150 now is close to competing with the Silverado on weight, does an Aluminum body really qualify it as the #1 best truck in comparison to the Chevy or GMC? Read the Rankings and stated info, then state your own judgement and let the public decide if this is right!

What air freshener device do you use, if any? And what unusual ones have you seen marketed? I saw a 'pine tree' with leather scent. Growing up, I remember our car usually had this little hanging wicker basket with a point at the bottom and a tassel. When you opened the lid, you would find lavender seeds inside. It was quite pleasant to the nose. Can there be a more iconic freshener than the 'tree'?

I was wondering what is a really good air freshioner you guys like to use. I always use the trees that dangle and I have tried that one that clips on your vent and it has that liquid that evaporates in the air. But what ones are the best... I hate walking to my car and having it reak like whatever it does sometimes reaks of marjuana when I hotbox it on the weekends but mainly I just want something strong those damn trees that hang from the mirror only last a couple days with the strong smell I like.

6. Sentra (new one) 5. Corolla 4. Elantra 3. Civic 2. Mazda3 1. VW Rabbit They seemed to have issues with the new Sentra. Of course they didn't like the Corolla because its spongy. They praised the Elantra as being spacious and a good commuter but its a flopper. The Civic is an acquired taste. the Mazda is a good car but it didn't win because of red dash lights. The Rabbit is the best overall. All models tested had sticks. They claimed that no Focus or Cobalt with stick was available to test.

Well I am really busy until nearly mid-June and so nothing will most likely happen between now and then but... I am thinking Cobalt/G5 Coupe with a 5spd. or a 2001-2002 GP GT Coupe. First off I think I have found basically exactly what I want, it has been for sale since early April with no offical price reduction yet. (Still same high price it was listed at.) It is a 2001 Pontiac GP GT SE Coupe in Silver with only 50K on the clock and is in very good shape (at least from the photos). I really do like the car and all the "special edition" extra's on it, problem it is nearly 500 miles away and about 1,500 more than what it is actually worth. I have emailed just to ask a few…

What's a car commercial from your youth that really stuck in your head over the years... it doesn't have to be a car you particularly liked, but one that was unique and you remember well. One of the ones that really stands out for me was this Isuzu Rodeo commercial. A older teacher in a monotone voice slowly instructs a class of coloring 1st graders to "Stay between the lines, the lines are our friends". Then one precocious little girl decides to scribble all over her coloring book. She grows up to buy an Isuzu Rodeo and goes off-roading. I came across a few old car commericals in the past few days, and thought I would share it. Cheesyness to the utmost extreme...... bad music, lots and lots of it (with the exception of 1 song). http://www.ttzd.com/movies/archive/300_01l.mpg This first one is an ad for the Nissan (or as metioned in the ad, Datsun) 300ZX. My Senior Studio project this semester is to design a car that takes form an function to a new level in a midsize sedan shape that isn't boring. Kinda vague I know, but to elaborate a bit, I was told by the instructor I could do this, so long as I made it "interesting" to the non-car artsy staff who will be judging the project. So my concept is to use famous figures of the past and create innovations that they would find useful in a car if they existed, but more importantly would be useful today. Anyway, the midterm review is coming up, and though I have a lot done, I still need a company name and a car name. It's a 4-door rear-drive hatch (think Mazda6 hatch), RWD with…

I've received many complaints about me slamming people's car doors too heavily, in particular my friend's Mazda 3 and my sis' 323 (Protege). I just got so used to my cars with heavy doors. I personally like heavier ones, since it makes me feel safer. I'm always scared of sitting in cars with light doors, especially when you don't know when you will get side swiped. What do you prefer? My mother is looking to trade her 2003 Eclipse GT in on something new. The car barely fits in the garage as-is, so we have a very limited length requirement of 190" or under. She wants it to be under $40k, but not necessarily that high. She wants something "not too June Cleaver-ish" in her words. 2-door is desired but can be overlooked if she likes the design. Same for a convertible top. She's already told me that the G6 would be OK but the new Malibu is a little too family-looking for her. Since she is coming from a 200 hp V6, something of at least similar performance would also be a requirement. I'm trying to come up with possibilities. All I can really come u…

In companion with the 'Birth Year' thread, it might be interesting to see where your 'soul' points, automotively. In my observations, it seems most car people have a fondness for cars they grew up with, or vehicles that were common when they were in their teens. Never took a scientific poll or anything, but I never fell into that category; I've always been drawn to the '57-64 American era primarily, whereas I 'grew up' around late '70s, mid 80s junk (I'm a '66 model year). My topic, my rule; if you post multiples, they have to stay within an 8-yr span of time. In my top 5 of all time :

If tasked to choose a single car from the year you were born, what would you choose? For me, 1988 is an interesting year. With its arrival, the U.S. saw the first George Bush become president, while George Micheal ended the year with the best selling album and number one single. The Young and the Restless began its streak as the number 1 daytime drama in television as Rain Man finished the year as the highest grossing film. It is also the year in which Enzo Ferrari passed away, singers Adele and Rihanna were born, and Sega introduced its Mega-Drive (later called the Genesis in the U.S.). Going back to the automotive industry, Volkswagen closed its Westmoreland pla…

I hope no one minds but I wanted to start a thread where everyone can contribute quick, easy and low-cost ways to improve your ride. I'm primarily interested in this thread being about non-cosmetic mods although this first one kind of straddles the fence. Anyway, here goes the first one which is a hack that recommends simply wrapping the inside of your car door in order to make it more visible when you open it on the street: http://auto-trim.org/2013/12/11/prevent-accidents-by-wrapping-the-inside-of-your-door/

What car would you suggest to someone who has to commute about 120-130 miles daily with approximately 75% highway driving?

Over the weekend, I logged into my State Farm account to pay my homeowners insurance...I saw the listing of my policies--my home owners insurance, 4 car policies..then I realized one of the car policies was for a 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe...which I don't own. Clicked on the details, and it's a policy for a guy in another town 50 miles away with the same first and last name, different middle initial. What a screwup. Called up my agent this morning, they were unaware of it but said they'd fix it.. I spent almost the last 5 years building insurance claims and policy software, so I'm amazed at how something like this could happen (if State Farm's data model is anything li…

This should be easy. There are tons of great car movies to choose from - Fast and Furious, Death Race, Smokey and the Bandit, Christine. I'm going to go for an obscure, GenX horror flick a la Spielberg's Dual. The name of the movie, fittingly, is simply "The Car." James Brolin starred as a Western sheriff tasked with protecting his community from a possessed, driverless car. Very cool flick. What's your favorite?

I mad a list of what car names mean, or i would assume cause i dont know for sure if thats why they actualy call this car that name.....i used only the bigger car companys so far, maybe ill add more when i have more time. BTW be prepared for spelling errors. Buick- Named after David Dunbar Buick. Lacrosse- a game invented by American indians; now played by two teams who use long-handled rackets to catch and carry and throw the ball toward the opponents goal. Lucerne- A city of central Switzerland on the northern shore of the Lake of Lucerne, an irregularly shaped lake surrounded by mountains. The city developed around a monastery founded in the eighth century and is a …

I want everyone to sound off here, but this post is inspired by the fact that the Chevelle name will not work in this millenium. Leave it in the 60s and 70s, where it belongs.... That goes for Bel Air as well....kinda flighty for a Chevy, not to mention the fact that it screams 50s. And there should be no more Broughams or Landaus either. At Nissan, I think the Sentra name should die with this current generation...I'd switch to Pulsar, a name that's a lot racier. Out in Japan, I'd kill their trend of getting too Japanese with the names like Fuga and Tiida...I didn't see anything wrong with Laurel, Cedric, or Gloria (even though that name belongs to Pr…

Some of them like "Burban" and "Vette" are fine by me, but others like "Elky" and "Maro" really annoy me. Hey, I know it isn't rational, but they rub me the wrong way. List yours up and down.

OK, so the choices have been narrowed based on her requirements, and the cars that fit them that she likes have been selected. So here is the final list of all the ones she is considering... 1. Eclipse (Spyder or coupe) 2. Mustang (Convertible or coupe) 3. G6 (Hardtop convertible only, doesn't like the coupe) 4. Altima coupe 5. Accord coupe 6. BMW 128 coupe / cabrio 7. Mazda RX-8 Eos, MINI, and C30 were all considered and dropped from the list. So, of those seven, what would you choose and why?

I dunno if this is bad karma from the rain or if it's just hit that point in its life where everything just wants to go wrong. As many of you know, there was a huge rainstorm last weekend in the New England area. We had driven around in my car to take pics of the river and stuff, and later my friend came over. That night when I was taking him home...(I think this was Sunday)...I noticed my blinkers weren't working at all...not even the inside flasher arrows. Of course, when I put the hazard lights on...everything works fine. I have tried replacing the flasher relay with no luck. Now, if there is one thing that this car has had major problems with...it's electrical. Unt…

Came across this story of 17 photo's of auto purgatory. Amazing to see even a couple places in the US but most are in Europe. Amazing to see just how many Citreons, Fiats and Honda's are sitting around due to over production telling us there is plenty of room for consolidation. Interesting photo of a NJ lot with hundreds of near identical 2nd generation new Dakotas. http://www.odometer.com/rides/10497/17-mind-blowing-pics-of-places-in-the-world-where-unsold-cars-waste-away#slide/0/1

Consumer Reports gets a lot of flak (a lot of it justifiably, some of it is not) for their ratings. Are there any websites that have actual repair statistics data for different models that accessible to general public?

Ok so im in the market to get a new car.... mainly because I am now doing website work for a used dealership and I can get a car from them for auction price. My selections are a VW R32, and Audi A4 3.0 Quattro 2003, and Subaru STI and a Pontiac GTO 2004. All are fairly comparable in gas mileage and options and the like, but this will be my daily driver and I need to figure out which will be better expense-wise (cost of parts, gas, bang for the buck, utility and versitility. Heres a link to the last site i used to compare them on kelleys.... but if anyone owns them or has an opinion feel free to share. http://www.kbb.com/KBB/CompareNewCars/SBSC...amp;ModelId=251 P.S…

Are other states like PA and NJ where the auto dealers cannot operate on Sundays? There are actually laws stating that you cannot sell a car in these states on a Sunday. What is the reason for this?

This last weekend I went shoping with daughter #4 for her first new car. Like most people in her postion (and mine) money is important. My plan was to get a Chevy Cobalt LS with automatic transmission utilizing the almost $3000 GM card rebate. The test drive was ok, perhaps a lttile underwhelming to me. My daughter didn't like it all saying that it seemed like a rental car. I have no idea where she learned that expression. Things got worse as the nice, industrious young man who was helping us (3.5 weeks on the job) introduced us to his sales manager. Oh my God! What an obnoxious slimey, iley character he was. Slight of build and full of the strangest facial expres…

Here we go- wife & I have agreed it's time to go replacin' ... esp based on the fact I am looking at $4500 for my '94 F-150 (provided we use a dealer who participates, right?) - whose trade-in value according to KBB is $513. That's a travesty, IMO. The F-150 (as sad as it would make me to condemn it to crushing- my only new purchase) would go as the trade toward replacing her '03 GP SE. That's been a VG car and she still likes it, but the mileage is getting where I'd rather she was in something newer, and 1-2 more years withOUT the CARS cash is doing no one any favors here. She's not necc against some sort of smaller crossover/ SUV, but as a rule, they get worse…

Went out car shopping today as well. Took a look at this Grand Prix GTP coupe http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_...ng=en&cardist=9 This car is loaded except, power passenger's seat and sunroof/moon roof. Took it out for a test drive... even before starting the car the a/c / heating controls knobs looked out of place as if the were from another car. The driver's side window was sluggish going up/down. Passenger's side wouldn't even go down. The leather didn't seem ripped or torn. there was a little wear on the passenger seat near the door but that's about all I noticed. The passenger's side mirror was a bit sluggish. The heating works.. but couldn't get …

So it seems as though a few new members may join the fleet son. Since the T&C is totaled my mom is looking to replace it, and my brother is also looking for his first car. The have different requirements and spending limits. Mom: Her spending limit depends on what she gets when the claim is settled, but most likely $1,000-$1,200 is her limit. We do appreciate the utility of teh van (I want us to get another), so Chrysler vans are on list for sure. Other vans might be considered. However I think she wants to downsize some. She does like the practicality of the minivan, so a wagon would be the next natural choice. However, there's not very many wagons i can think of…

If you are car shopping or thinking you may be soon..... tell us what you are most likely going to look the most at. No doubt, there are so many models, you like a lot of them. Price, utility, style....so many variables. When it comes down to picking and choosing and meeting your needs, which cars etc. have the best chance of ending up in your driveway? After seeing the new CTS today, I guess I would have to say it only cements in my mind that I could truly get into a G8. I do not think the added bling of the CTS is neccessary for me. I would like the G8 to have all wheel drive, but it might be the only car I am willing to overlook that on. I have a choice of …

So the wife and I began to do some car shopping, basically test driving the cars she's interested it to see what she thinks. Here's the list of cars she's test driven in the past two weeks: 1. Buick LaCrosse FWD Leather (her favorite so far) 2. Buick Regal FWD (she's not a fan, I like it! The 2.0L turbo 4 cyl is a rocket engine in this car) 3. Buick Verano Leather (too small for both of us, nice car, just not her cup of tea) 4. Buick Encore FWD Leather (surprisingly, she's no longer interested in the Encore, likes the exterior look but not the interior styling) 5. Chevy Impala 2LT (her second favorite, was quite impressed with the amount of features for the price) …

Well, since the crash I knew I was going to need to get a new car, its inevitable. Since the crash I've been driving around in a less than perfect 1992 Honda Accord LX 2-door 5-speed. I figured that as long as I had it I wouldn't need to make a rash decision on a new car and I'd be able to save some money up, put some money towards baby-related stuff and get my finances in order before deciding on how much and what I want. Well, last night the Accord lost second gear (it just grinds when I try to put it in second, makes driving interesting) and I dont have high hopes for the rest of the car. So I figured that I would take suggestions/comments from the peanut gallery b…
