This past Saturday, Sept. 1st, 2007 Julie & I became husband and wife. A couple months ago we planned a small ceremony in the Boston Public Gardens right next to the Swan Boats. It was a gorgeous day, every little detail came out perfect. XP715's grlfriend could not make it but most of our close friends made it out. I drove the '59 Buick into Boston & parked in the underground parking garage. It was a short ceremony, maybe 1.5 hours long, afterwards we went to Vinnie-Testas, a famous Italian restaurant close to the Prudential Center. I was with my ex Marcia for 5.5 years and we never got past being engaged. Julie & I have known each other for 7 yea…

Going up north where the remaining members of my family live...the once-every-3-month ritual...but will take a day for myself to go up to Canada, or somewhere, to clear my head. Well, I know it will be salmon on Friday night (Good Friday) and a brunch I don't have to pay for on Sunday morning, so not all is lost. Any plans for Easter?

Anyways I have noticed on 2004/2005 Impala models some have a cloth door insert. I have seen the cloth inserts with cloth seats and without but never with leather. I have looked through my 2001-2005 Impala Brochure collection and found nothing. I have checked GM's media site and found nothing under year to year changes. Can anyone shed some light on this? Anyways here is the photograph...

Understand politics a little bit? I don't feel like researching, but I'd like to learn a little more UNBIASED information about politics. Where do Democrats and Republicans usually differ? I know Dems are tree humpers and Reps typically will go to war much quicker than a Dem. I honestly don't know hardly anything about this stuff and I wish I did since I can vote now. I also have to look up the people running.. whose all running to be Dem and to be Rep right now? Isn't it basically between Obama and Clinton right now for Democrats? And I only know of McCain running for Republican... Somebody, please, enlighten me.

What are those features about a car that you just love? I'm not talking so much about "I love a car with a ton of horsepower" or "a car that gets a billion mpg", but the little things that just make you smile. The first one that comes to my mind is the gas cap door with a release inside the car. I also like map lights that are semi-shaded - the light does not have a direct path to your eyes, but more down at the seats, making them much nicer at night. So, what are your favorite features?

Pretty simple, only cars that can be bought NEW in 2015-2016 and are AMERICAN! Few categories to meet. 1 Truck 1 Sedan 1 Coupe 1 SUV/CUV 1 Wild Card! aka..toy! Could be any form of automobile just as long as it's made in America(or the company is). Doesn't have to be a car, truck, or suv. Could be a motorcycle, 4 wheeler, plane, I don't care as long as it is American! Whatcha got?

It’s time for the sixth annual end-of-year list of the best and worst of C&G, General Motors, and all things automotive. But before beginning, a quick recap of what else went on in the world the past year: It was the year of wide stance, thanks to Senator Larry Craig, and Barry Bonds breaking Hank Aaron’s 755 homerun record and then getting indicted for perjury and obstruction of justice regarding steroid use. It was the year of the mortgage meltdown and of Chinese toys getting recalled for lead paint. There was a horrific mass-killing at Virginia Tech and nonstop Presidential campaigning—will it ever end, and are these the best candidates the country can offer? T…

If you look closely, you'll see Canada and England follow closely so the real reason must be related to speaking English. Notice also, that Hungary is the only nation loosing weight, in all irony... Insane. April 16th and a Nor'easter with flooding rain and heavy wind and accumulating snow! Terrible here, raging wind , heavy slush on the roads, trees down everywhere, power failures, roads closed, transit lines down, state of emergency in NJ, flooded homes. Sheesh! When the wind and snow calm down, I'm going to have tons of cleanup to do. Hope the chainsaw starts. And I'm supposed to take the Maserati to a collecter car auction in two days? What's wrong with this picture?

So, I'm somewhat a fan of what Chevy has done with the HHR - tasteful retro in a useful package. I think they should build on that... First, the idea of a "Heritage" line of cars. The HHR can be billed as the first one (and works well since it stands for "Heritage High Roof." Then try one more. If that's a hit, try another. Essentially having some semi-specialty products in the line of Scion, but without the need for an actual new brand (just a "series"), and with actual product heritage to draw from and inspire people. Granted, some do not love retro design - that's why these are nitch products (they might command a better profit margin that way anyway...). First…

I had lunch today at a local Vietnamese place, it was my second visit ever, and my only exposure to Vietnamese food. They have, imo, very odd tastes in flavor mixing. They use mint in a lot of stuff, and peanut. Today I had crab and shrimp in a soup that really tasted weird, and *gag*, I tried a beverage called "pickled lime drink"... it was nasty. Tasted a bit like rotten limes that have lost their flavor. The only lime taste was as an aftertaste, and it was weak. I guess it's my problem, however, because the place had a healthy crowd of Vietnamese customers... a good sign for an ethnic restaurant, imo. Last week my meal there was better, so if I go back, I will h…

Enough political BS Let's get light. Here's some advice i need. My 500 lease goes back in a week or so. To cover myself in the wake of a scarce credit scenario, I bought a used Taurus X a couple months ago. Now it seems like a good move. So, replacing my 500 is done, and I don't have to be forced into a bad deal now, when credit is tight and good deals are also few as well. The thing is now I am driving the 2004 Aztek. Wife has the new rig. The dilemma I face is its a nice daily driver. Quiet, spacious, 20 mpg, functional. Drives like a dump truck and its not fun per se, but its a good cruiser. Its in decent shape. More on that in a bit. It has 95,000 m…

YouTube FOTD: Kid Steals Shelby GT500, Hits a Deer by black-knight, C&G Editor/Reporter 19th, May, 2011 Words just simply cannot express the shear magnitude of stupidity and outright failure that surrounds the events surrounding the video of today's YouTube Find of the Day (or should that be Fail of the Day?). If you've already watched it, it will be very obvious to you that the following is true: The driver of the car does not own the car. The driver of the car is certainly under the age of 21. The driver of the car is joyriding with his idiotic friends. The driver of the car ran someone off of the road and stupidly fled the scene. The vi…

I just asked myself this question dealing with a client today. ARRRGGGHHH. I once posted a thread about rude customers. (I had one contractor/client go for my jugular last spring because of a few things I didn't pick up on a floor plan after our firm went through a mutiny - 15 % of the staff walked out in 1 day - and a lot of us were scrambling to keep everything in check). I would have gone off on him but I kept cool thinking: braces to be paid for with cafeteria plan - check, vesting schedule for 401 K is higher in April - check...you get the idea. It went on until I was 21, then GM transfered me to Mexico for a few years, so it ended. She and her husband came to the same Italian festival I went to today, in Wilmington. It was odd because I heard her call my name and I knew exactly who it was without looking. I found out they had moved from Texas to Cape May, NJ since her husband retired this year. Its snowing here in Deadwood already , about 1/2 inch has fallen in the last 20 minutes.....the whole day today its snowed and flurried but none stuck until now. I went and got a winter coat already! Earlier this morning when we went to Spearfish (neighboring city) to get a coat we went back through spearfish canyon, which is just a little longer drive back but its always scenic, once driving into the canyon aways there was nsow duested on all the canyon wall spruce/fir trees (which act like umbrellas and catch evryhting) getting to the top of the canyon there was nsow on evrything about 2 inches, coming backtowards deadwood we took the Terry Summit turnoff (terry peak…

So, a '03 Tahoe pulls onto the lot yesterday. A nice couple gets out, wanders around the show room. I greet them. They've had the truck for a year, they say, and their salesperson (whom they readily admit they don't like) told them that after a year or so they should be able to trade the truck in. (Oh, oh, I am thinking. Get out the backhoe.) So, I do a little more investigating. Mr. Customer's credit wasn't great a year ago, so Mrs. Customer had to co-sign. (Better make sure there is lots of gas in the backhoe.) Did you have a trade, or put any money down when you got it, I ask. No. (I'm going to need a special city permit for the size of this hole.) How …

If you are car shopping or thinking you may be soon..... tell us what you are most likely going to look the most at. No doubt, there are so many models, you like a lot of them. Price, utility, style....so many variables. When it comes down to picking and choosing and meeting your needs, which cars etc. have the best chance of ending up in your driveway? After seeing the new CTS today, I guess I would have to say it only cements in my mind that I could truly get into a G8. I do not think the added bling of the CTS is neccessary for me. I would like the G8 to have all wheel drive, but it might be the only car I am willing to overlook that on. I have a choice of …

Today I wanted to scream, our family was getting ready to go to a family function about 45 min away, ma and pa wanted to pick up the papers, and I was in the shower. I told ma and pa they could take my car (2001 Aurora) to pick up the papers since I was driving anyway. About 10 min after they left, I'm getting out of the shower to hear the windshield wipers are acting strange. I quickly dress, go outside and check the car myself, when the wipers are in a intermittent setting they get stuck, when they are on low/hi they are fine except 1. they dont turn off when the lever is moved to the off position, when they do shut off with the car they automatically go up (as oppos…

http://www.autoblog.com/2007/01/19/montrea...nveiled-almost/ The centerpiece of the 2007 Montreal auto show was supposed to be the Plethore, a supercar being developed in Quebec by HHT Locus Technologies. As we reported previously, the car nicknamed "the Quebec Bomb" employs carbon fiber construction and an 8.2-liter V8 to produce a high power-to-weight ratio driving from behind a three-passenger cabin with a center-line driving position, an innovative layout employed in the record-shattering McLaren F1 supercar (and in a 1966 Ferrari 365 P prototype), but not replicated since. Unfortunately, as is often the case with such ambitious projects, the car was far from …

Hi all. I'm truck shopping. Getting rid of the mini-van now that I need something to better meet the family needs. I've looked at all makes, questioned new owners, examined build-lists, optioned-together glorified "I wish" truck builds, came back to Earth, and started searching for deals. The 2012 clearouts for 0% financing held few to be desired, so I waited... until I saw an ad at the local dealership for an "End of the World Sale" - one day only. They're discounting everything on their lot, including 2013 units. Test drove a 2013 SLE with the 1SB package and a couple add-on options and liked it, but stopped cold when I saw an All Terrain with the Offroad package …

Is the love affair with the automobile over? Say it ain't so! Well, I don't think it is...I wouldn't have my Monte Carlos otherwise.... But, the owner of a couple area car washes (1 in S Elgin; 1 in Elgin) seems to think so.... Eh, what?! It has the shortest driveway/waiting area, so the shortest waits.... Though, if I get a winter beater, I won't have to worry about that so much...eh? SIDE NOTE #2: I'm a …

Ugh! Another Saturday night has come and gone. My life has settled into such a rut. I can sit in a chair and practically imagine the entire weekend in my head to the extenet that the experience would be nearly the same as living it. Shopping, cleaning, laundry, paying bills, going to the gym, going out to the bars...it's all become so repetitive and boring, I'm going a little crazy. Even the coming of spring just adds more home maintenance and yardwork into the mix. I try to shake things up to the extent I can, but being single I have to do everything myself. Getting the things done I have to do leaves me only a small amount of time for fun. All of my friends t…

Lately my car has been getting great mpg, and ironically I've been driving faster lately. Usually I go about 75 on the interstate, but the last week I've been waking up later and have a 45 minute drive to work, so I go about 80. I just filled up my car tonight and discovered I got 27 mpg! The EPA rates my car at 25 mpg and before I had my head gasket replaced I was getting 22-23 mpg. This is about 85% highway, 15% city driving. I would've assumed I'd be getting worse since I've been speeding more lately, but I'm actually doing better! How does everyone else do on highway MPG?

It's something that will make you nuts... I come outside, to find a bunch of kids sitting on my cars.... about a dozen kids, sitting on 5-6 cars, including mine. On top on that, they are being stupid, bouncing on them, hitting them, and laying on the hood.... I just about went livid..... I must have scared them (though a few others started yelling at them too) I wasn't worried about the wagon (it looks beat up anyways) But they marked up the facia, headlight, and hood of my coupe (it's only 2 years old, and looks good ) And I'm not sure if it is going to buff out... He also got another guy on the local Cobalt/Ecotec board to turn his SS/SC turbo (in the process being finished up right now). He really does know his stuff and does his own researching on all this. Well the other night I had a dream. Here, I'll quote what I posted on that other board: After posting that, he told me that he's thought many times about getting rid of his turbo and swapping in a twin setup. He's done all the research and knows exactly what he would…

Folks: We've already seen the ordering guides and the new color lists. Surfacing on the horizon for larger cars is a color called Midnight Amethyst Metallic. In reality, it's already here -- on Cobalt, as a minimum. It's interesting, but possibly trendy. It can look somewhat grape-like. It reminds me of the mid-90s Thunderbird color that's purple and reads differently under different light. I guess I'm pissed because they shortchange us on variants of standard colors or fail to find a good shade of them and then insert trandier colors (this year Amethyst and 2 years ago Fusion Orange Metallic - I have seen NEW 04 and 05 GPs in that color still sitting on lots). …

(Reuters) - Hostess Brands Inc, the bankrupt maker of Twinkies and Wonder Bread, has sought a U.S. court's permission to go out of business after failing to get wage and benefit cuts from thousands of its striking bakery workers. Hostess, which has about $2.5 billion in sales from a long list of snack cakes and breads, filed the request with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in New York early Friday morning. The Irving, Texas-based company said the liquidation would mean that most of its 18,500 employees would lose their jobs. Hostess immediately suspended operations at all of its 33 plants across the United States as it moves to start liquidating assets, it said. "We'll be s…

I don't know about anyone else, but we have had quite a winter so far. Usually you don't see much in the way of snow or ice around here before Christmas, but so far it has snowed much of the week and we had two days of freezing rain / sleet that left about 2 inches of ice on the ground. It iced again last night and now it has changed over to snow; I had to go out last night and scraping it off my windows was a task since it was just a thick glazing over everything. We used to have really bad winters like this in the first few years of the 90s, then it was mild for the rest of the decade until about 2003 when we've been having monster snowstorms and earlier snow. A cou…

Well, luckily the "curse" hasn't befell it, but head gasket woes have. I took it to the GM dealer the other day and went to pick it up today and found out that the #5 cylinder has moisture and coolant in it. This is bad timing because I go back to school in a week and they won't be able to to get it in for at least two weeks. Also, the GM dealer here is being bought out by the Ford dealer, so it may end up being serviced over at the Ford dealer costing more money due to higher labor costs there. The GM dealer will repair it for $800, and another place we checked can do it for $650-700. I will be buying a new car in May, so my options are either A) pour $800 into a c…

Plymouth in it's heyday had huge sales, often in the top three in America. It was sad to see this brand disappear. It was created as an economy division. The name Plymouth is often thought to derive from the landing of the Pilgrims, but what finalized the deal for the name was the very popular, at the time, 'Plymouth Bindertwine'...which most people were aware of. Plymouth went onto great success. Here are some of my favorite Plymouths.

Some, if not most, of you know I've wanted the following for a while: * a bonafide "winter beater" in the form of a newer car OR (my preference) another '86-'88 MC LS that is in not-so-good shape OR a 1977-1979 Caprice Classic OR a 1989-1990 Caprice 9C1 * a 1987 MC SS Aerocoupe (or even just an SS, for that matter) * my own home with a over-sized garage.... * a 1975 Caprice Classic convertible Slowly, but surely, I've been saving money (kinda hard with more then average medical bills) and, as of now, I have the money for the winter beater (have had that money for over a year now), and almost enough for an SS I have my eye on.... Well, it might be changing big time within the next 6 months or so. First, I've got a guy that's pretty interested in the Camaro (finally threw it in AutoTrader last week), so that should hopefully be gone soon, leaving space for another Camaro. A new addition to the driveway would be the '87-92 Camaro IROC 5.7L my dad's looking to find and rebuild. He's taking most of his bonus and splurging on a car when he finds one. Second, the lease on my mom's '05 4.7L Durango is up in June or so, and my parents are seriously considering getting an Acadia in the driveway. As I mentioned in the GMC forum, I took my parents up to the GMC dealer the other day and they loved the way…

Well, a few weeks back, when I was working (getting carts actually), I saw this lady in a Pacifica totally run into the rear end of a parked Suburban. She was trying to just pull into a parking spot and totally NAILED it. She parked at the end of the lot 'til the 'Burb pulled away (without a scratch OR notification of the accident), and I got to see her dented/scraped quarter-panel and shattered headlight. Then, tonight, I ran up to the autostore that's next door to my work. I'm walking out and CRASH! This lady in a S10 ran into the "Handicap Parking" pole! I had to take the POS in because, in a typical showing of Ford quality, the $h!mobile left me stranded with........a bad radio. The cd player doesn't eject. They had to order a new radio (isn't it the same one they use in like every new Ford you can buy?) so it'll be a few days until I have a cd player again. Minor inconvenience really, the radio still works so I still have music, just not good music.

It's the first of October and I was surprised to see a smidgeon of color in the tree leaves. I'm definitely a warm weather animal, liking warm places such as CA and FL. However, I would have to say that fall is the most picturesque. I mean, a lot of places look like Thomas Kincaid paintings and, in this cooler weather, you can putz around in a sweatshirt or sweater, do the coffehouse thing and walk on forested paths. Beautiful. I will be going to Montreal and Quebec in exactly 2 and 1/2 weeks to take a week of vacation. I hope there's enough color when I get there. Every year, the peak time is slightly different. So, I voted "fall" for the beauty, though summer…

So the Bonneville is in need of repairs and has numerous annoyances at the moment... much more than I'm willing to pay for. Plus, with two kids, I'm out of space when it comes to traveling. Ergo, I'm seriously looking to let it go and move into something bigger. As the thread title suggests, my budget is really low, to the tune of no more than $8000. Now I realize that most of the vehicles I look for in this price range will be high in miles, but there are some reasonable examples out there on a miles-per-year basis. So, fellow C&Gers, here's my short list in order of preference: 1) GMT360s, preferably with 7 seats. Pros: Not a weak engine in the bunch, space, …
