What GM movie car do you like the best- To me it's the Impala ragtop in Boyz in the Hood. What's yours? Wasn't it a Pontiac Grand Am or something in that really wild chase in The French Connection? Also like... The 58 Chevy and 55 Chevy from American Graffiti, the movie Two Lane Blacktop, and theTrans Am in smokey and the Bandit. Non GM car things that were obviously cool were the chase in Bullet, but I loved watching Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry. The ending where the Charger slams into the train I saw when I was like 7 years old and it was my first real taste of movie violence involving a car. That scene has stayed with me for a long time. Ok, here it goes... If you could have one new car and one old bought for you at the same time. what would they be? Catch is, the total of both cars have to be under 50k.... I would go with a 2010 Camaro LT with the RS package, and 69-74 Pontiac Firebird.

I'll miss the wagon..... The Cav wagon sold today...it looks like she should have a good home. I sold it to a disabled Vet for a few hundred bucks...and he was thankful for the deal. (So he could make his appointments) He plans to fix her up and drive her locally...so I might see it once in a while... For all the negative vibes the J bodies get, it was always a dependable car for me.... Now I want another wagon.....and I don't know why....

Not that I really should be looking for another "toy" at this time, but I've seen the following 1992 Pontiac Trans Am Convertible for sale in the last couple of issues of the local Auto Shopper and it catches my eye each time: 1992 Pontiac Trans Am Convertible, 118k miles, black leather, V8, auto trans, $5995 Now I've always liked the 1991 & 1992 Trans Ams (especially the GTA models), so when I find one for sale I tend to at least check it out. I think I'd prefer a T-top coupe more, but for a "toy" car I wouldn't rule out a convertible. Any advice on this T/A? Not sure if I'd do anything about it, but I always like to learn about the cars I like anyway :AH-H…

I was driving home after work today when I saw an odd-looking car/truck waiting to pull out into traffic. In profile, it looked like a Holden Ute except shorter. It looked like it was from the 90s. As I drove by, I saw it had a Chevrolet badge with a ring around the bowtie. Anybody know what this could be? Something from a Latin American market?

Yeah, we know there is a certain crowd (trailer trash, ghetto folks, poor people, hillbillies) that drives these cars into the ground....or bought them that way. But does that mean said cars are not worth the trouble to do a little something with? Not worth saving? Maybe building for a little SCCA track action, engine swapping, a clean cruiser, or even a kit car or electric/biodiesel conversion? Even if they aren't a loser's car, maybe it's simply something you often see parked with "For Sale $1000" written on the window in white shoe polish. I had never heard of this car, the 1986 Buick LeSabre Grand National: http://www.lesabret-type.com/LeSabreGN.html Exactly What is a LeSabre Grand National? Many do not even know that Buick Division of General Motors produced the Grand National on a platform other than on the Regal but there was a very unique Grand National built in late1985 – the 1986 LeSabre Grand National. 117 (or 112) copies were built to qualify the new, first year 1986 LeSabre FWD Coupe body for NASCAR competition. The main reason for building the 1986 LeSabre Grand National was to get the new body with modified rear quarter windows sanctioned for Winston Cup racing that year. The modified …

Google 4310 results Yahoo 8360 results MSN 631 results i was frightened at how some of these went back... found a mess i started back on priusonline.com in 2006, found some really old 2pac fan pages from like 8-9 years ago... of course cheers and gears, and youtube was the major cause for my results... i think my videos are on every language video posting sites possible... yikes, i noticed i'm up to 1.25 million views on one of my youtube videos....

Amazing show at the Chesterbrook July Cruise Night. The highlight was a full custom '49 Olds Sedanette with insanely good workmanship. I'm not usually into these but it really was that good. Another car of note was a '37 Buick 8 Super that was an unrestored survivor with that patina that 68 loves so much. I think that there were 4 or 5 First gen Monte Carlos including one phantom SS complete with a Chevelle cowl induction hood molded into the original Monte hood ( fully Functional). Also there was a Nask Metropolitan with a GM v6, a '69 Caprice (unrestored) with 29k original miles, a '70 Nova SS with 21k original miles, a Plum Crazy Hemicuda, an Atomic Orange Zo6, a '41…

I bought 50 shares of Ford today @ $5.10, my first trade in the stock market. After the yesterday's earnings tumble (F lost about $.90) and the Ford's outlook the next couple years, I feel like it's a pretty solid investment. I'm planning on buying more soon, and hopefully some GM in a few months after I have some time to watch it. I went through ShareBuilder.com and it's pretty easy to use considering I have no previous experience with stock markets. Does anyone else hold any automotive stock? Or just stock in general?

July 22, 2008 Modern Classics: Pontiac Fiero, 1984-1988 http://www.canadiandriver.com/articles/jb2...ntiac-fiero.htm Pontiac Fieros. By Jeff Burry Pontiac Fiero, 1984-1988 Mid-engine sports cars are not generally associated with General Motors. People are more likely to associate them with exotic carmakers such as Ferrari and Lamborghini. However, the Pontiac division of General Motors produced such a car in the mid-1980s. The car was badged Pontiac Fiero, Italian for "proud." Conceived by John Delorean, and designed by Hulki Aldikacti, the car's chief design engineer, the Fiero was a two-seater, mid-engine sports car built for the masses. It was Ald…

Unhappy America If America can learn from its problems, instead of blaming others, it will come back stronger http://www.economist.com/opinion/displaySt...ory_ID=11791539 NATIONS, like people, occasionally get the blues; and right now the United States, normally the world’s most self-confident place, is glum. Eight out of ten Americans think their country is heading in the wrong direction. The hapless George Bush is partly to blame for this: his approval ratings are now sub-Nixonian. But many are concerned not so much about a failed president as about a flailing nation. One source of angst is the sorry state of American capitalism. The "Washington consensus" told th…

Work has been bad lately. We were bought out and we're in the process of merging the two networks. Strangely, even though this was a straight up purchase and advertised as such, it's really turning into a merger of equals. Most of my old company's stuff is being retained as it's more efficient and more advanced than the stuff our new mothership has. Most of the workforce is being retained as well. During all of this, I'm doing some fairly big renovations on one of my apartment buildings. Chest pains from stress are now a common occurrence. Yesterday, I was sent a link to failblog.com and I was laughing so hard for so long that my co-workers were getting worried. I felt co…

I'm a huge GM fan. They have showed brillance beyond compare and yet have made some of the dumbest decisions in automobile history. And they have been hugely successful in so many ways...like being number one a lot of years. Many stunning, many dreadful cars and a slew of marketing schemes later, there has been but one shining star in their orbit. Corvette. Clear visionary, purposeful, consistant, ever improving Corvette. Some close calls for sure and a couple of iffy years, but they stuck with the plan. Now, I say, take the Corvette team and put them in charge of GM and change the name of General Motors Corporation to Corvette Corporation. Because no matte…

One of the guys at the local electrical supply house just bought a Buick Grand National...for $2500. It ain't pretty. It's got a million Jesus loves you stickers on it, a regular Regal fender for one of the front fenders, the headliner is missing, and it needs paint in the worst sort of way. And it's got rust, but very minor. Also comes with a stack of paperwork that my tape measure says is three inches thick, the motor and tranny have been rebuilt by GOOD local people, the rest of the interior is damn near perfect, and it's a T-top car. Oddly enough, it was ordered with every option, including the upgraded stereo, but no posi rear end. Making me even sicker is…

From Bill Vance of Canadian Driver: July 18, 2007 Motoring Memories: Hardtop convertibles Story and photo by Bill Vance Although true hardtop convertibles are becoming popular now, there were a few earlier attempts that weren't so successful. In the beginning, virtually all cars were convertibles, most descended from open carriages and buggies. Rudimentary canvas tops were normal as carmakers were more concerned with mechanical reliability than passenger protection - and automobiles were rarely operated in the winter anyway. As reliability improved and cars were used year-round there was increased interest in weather protection. Enclosed cars gradually ev…

So, my mom calls me at work today. Someone rear-ended her in her Cobalt while she was stopped at a red light. I wrote an estimate for $3200+. Dumbass said he reached down for a pen and didn't see her stopped, along with the rest of traffic at the light. Thing is, we fixed the dumbass' Forester less than 6 months ago, when he pulled out in front of someone and ripped the whole side out of it. We will be fixing his car again, as well, but I haven't seen it because the tow company (they knew where the car will be fixed) DROVE DIRECTLY BY our bodyshop to take it to their storage lot, so they can collect storage... UNTIL MONDAY. When I called the tow company and asked th…

My grandfather's Model A, disassembled Camino style. I'm not sure of the year, and I only vaguely remember it. I know it basically looks like this one, but with a red body.

I just realized something. 3 years ago my family's fleet was much less powerful but at the same time more fuel effiecent. As gas prices go up we've been buying cars with BIGGER and more POWERFUL engines. Here's the comparison. Aaaahhhh....that fresh, newly-washed look is so intoxicating...isn't it? I finally washed my older 4 Monte Carlos this past Saturday [the '87 MC LS daily driver will get its second cleaning of the year this coming weekend, weather permitting, of course]...partly to have them ready for the July 26 gathering here, in case it IS sunny...but mostly to get the "winter dust" off them. Now, they all just look and "feel" so much better! Sure makes a difference when they are clean; driving them after a fresh wash is a bit invigorating, imho. Hmmm...does anyone else who has multiple cars notice that each car as its own "personality"? It just seems that each of my MCs have a d…

While watching "Last Comic Standing" tonight, NBC showed two promo spots for a new show starting this fall called "My Own Worst Enemy" with Christian Slater. He plays a duel character - Henry, the average joe, and Eddie, a cross between 007 and an assassin. The second promo showed "Henry" driving in his mundane blue Chevy Traverse, while "Eddie" cruises around in a silver 5th generation Camaro coupe. So NBC is showing both Ford (Knight Rider) and Chevy some lovin' with new fall shows.

As some of you know my Girl Friend (maybe wife soon i mean after 25 years of knowing each other pretty close, maybe its time) was in a car accident a little while ago. Good news she is almost back to normal the only thing is they need to watch for blood clots that could lead to a stroke. She still isn't aloud to go back to work until august 4th. She is bored out of her mind sitting at home and apparently when the caprice got stolen and we were looking at cars she really liked the Silverado. Today im at work and i get a call from my dad asking why Kim needed his GM discount number, i had no idea. well i get home and see a shinny new 2008 Silverado regular Cab long box chill…

I go on ebay and place check marks for "Wagon" "Manual transmission" "4cylinder" "5cylinder" (gotta remember the volvos.... The most interesting entries are: Ford Escort L Wagon Diesel Ford Pinto Wagon complete with porthole window in back 1971 Datsun 510 Wagon Dodge Omni GLSH Clone with a Shelby engine from a Daytona Oh sure there's a bunch of Subarus, Saabs, and Volvos.... but I need to drive a car that really makes a statement... you know... like a quad color 1996 Roadmaster Wagon does....

Dutch Mandel--GM Next: Why it will be around for the coming century By DUTCH MANDEL As General Motors looks toward its centennial celebration in September, today might go down in its history as the moment when its corporate life was saved. That's because its much-maligned chairman, Rick Wagoner, announced massive triage measures aimed at keeping the patient alive. His message should resonate from Wall Street to Main Street. Wagoner and his creditable management team--led by no-nonsense COO Fritz Henderson--addressed all areas of the business. Yes, GM made some "easy" calls. It will hasten to shutter plants it targeted earlier in the year for closure; those facil…

As home prices continue to decline and loan defaults mount, federal regulators are bracing for dozens of American banks to fail over the next year. But after a large mortgage lender in California collapsed late Friday, Wall Street analysts began posing two crucial questions: Just how many banks might falter? And, more urgently, which one could be next? The nation’s banks are in far less danger than they were in the late 1980s and early 1990s, when more than 1,000 federally insured institutions went under during the savings-and-loan crisis. The debacle, the greatest collapse of American financial institutions since the Depression, prompted a government bailout that cos…

I am on vacation and in the Southland heading for my home in Texas to see my mother, then after that on to California. We have stopped for the night. GM will let you know what it plans to do as far as cost cutting goes within the corporation, this will happen at 8:30 AM tomorrow. Expect to see many engineers assigned to frozen projects let go, I will let you speculate on which products they are but be aware there will be a shake-up of GM's product portfolio. Most of the cuts will come from GMNA, GM's home market, some engineers have been reassigned to small-car projects, however GM will be a smaller company with a thinner product line so there could be thousands let…

A used one, anyway - I haven't figured up savings and incentives on new vehicles. According to this article, the resale value of a Chevy Tahoe has dropped by 17% in the last year. Assuming the for-sale price of a used has dropped a similar amount, that extra money buys a lot of gas. A used Tahoe that was $40K last year, according to those numbers, would now cost $33,200. Let's compare that number to purchasing a Lexus RX400h. They're currently selling used for what a Tahoe would have cost last year, about $40K. The Tahoe gets about 17 combined city/highway MPG. The Lexus, 29 MPG combined. Let's say gas remains stable at $4.29/gal (a big assumption, I know). If you d…

Today (Sunday the 13th) was a great day for car shows... the weather was awesome andthere was a "street rod" event at Canobie Lake Park, as well as the Endicott Estate car show where I showed my '59 Buick LeSabre last year, I actually it parked tailfin-to-tailfin with a '60 LeSabre 2dr hardtop. But I missed both of those shows... an a half dozen others. In fact, shockingly I was no where near a paved road. But it's all good because SpeedingPenguin, myself & a few buddies were up in thewoods of New Hampshire at (undisclosed location) "wasting" $200 worht of Ammo & eating $50 worth of BBQ'd hot dogs & cheeseburgers. It was quite an ecle…

Ok, so I've been wanting an old wagon or van for a while now, because it would make biking, kayaking, and randomly moving stuff easier. Well, I found one, again, a Lesabre Estate, not sure of the year (early 80's) but it runs and they want $650 for it. Here's the hitch, my fiancee says I can buy it on two conditions. The first is easy, I just need to clean the garage so we have someplace to put it. Second is a bit tricky, I have to buy it with straight cash and cant deplete the bank account. We just put a deposit down on our vacation this coming winter, so cash is stretched thin for a couple weeks. So I'm in a tricky situation. Cant borrow money for it, cant raid t…

What we need now is one of these. Why it didn't go into production, I have no idea. It should have. Recently, at a open house at the GM Heritage Center, this little puppy showed up, fresh from a rebuild. Twin cam Cosworth engine, much like an early ecotech. 5 speed, bad ass look I think...cowl hood. F- body styling, some crappy vega parts, but sort of an early kind of Solstice/Sky feel to it...pics don't do it justice! This design was a result of the energy CrIsiS in the 70s, but the style of this unit speaks to me. Needs cool wheels and tires but otherwise excellent! I would imagine some amazing mpg with such a wedge to cut thru the air. I feel like buildin…

Just wondering. My mom is really into this stuff. I believe in it to a certain extent, but I'm not really sure if I believe in psychics... Reason I ask is that my mom will see/talk to a psychic once every great while (every year or two) and tell me what happened. Well I usually don't agree with half the crap, but this time it might've hit home.

So, I needed to rent a car last min. and almost EVERYBODY in Fresno was sold out. So Hertz had cars (and have earned my future business) but... I ended up with 3 TOYOTA keys that all led me to a graphite gray Camary. It has a 4 banger in it. I CANNOT find a comfortable seating position in it at all. The seat is retarded and the steering wheel when it is pulled all the way out and put in the highest position is still not high enough or far enough out. At night, the whole center stack (including the green plastic surroundings) lights up and is very distracting. I can't ever get the car to go into gear without looking at the stupid jagged shifter. The car has really bad blin…

I'm sure i'll know in a f…

Is there anything good in your boss' vision of the new GM? Seriously, where are his "gotta have" products? We've yet to see anything worth talking about. Is it really all about bland, midsize FWD sedans? Surely there must be something.

Well, a couple weeks ago there wasn't much work to do at work, so I got off early a couple days... as a result, I decided to detail the Goat, which was a bit dirty. In all, it took about 6 hours if I remember correctly, and I didn't even touch the interior. Washed it, clayed it, washed it again, and then waxed it with some great 3M wax (some of the best out there). After waxing the body, I waxed the wheels and shined the tires. The results:

A Malibu wagon please. 1. Don't try to go the Dodge route and load it up with testosterone, just a wagon of the existing car please. 2. Make the 4cylinder/6speed option available You already have a great interior, something the Magnum never had. You'd be the only one on the market except the Mazda 6 and that one is going away. You'd have a great stepping down point from the larger CUVs and SUVs for families that finally realize they don't need so much car. You could tout it being cooler than a mini-van, more efficient than an SUV/CUV and able to haul just about as much stuff.

A bit of a rant, but these things happened over the last few weeks and I can't get over how dumb all 5 are. #1. My Buddy Steve runs a body shop, did the body work on my 71 Chevelle and my 55 Chevy and also has fixed my other cars, including the Safari van when it got hit by a truck. Steve took a BMW Salvage title rebuild down to the Ohio State highway patrol to get it checked out so he could sell it. He noticed a very nice 65 Corvette Convertible (red, restored) being hauled away with the impounds to a company that crushes cars. He asked them what they were doing with the Vette...and was told that they were crushing it for reasons they couldn't discuss. Why in…
