Anyone here with interesting names for their computers..i.e. other than the IP address, giving it a hostname? It's kind of a computer geek thing, I think...friends of mine name their computers after things like sci fi characters, Star Trek characters, places in the Lord of the Rings movies, etc... when I set up my current home network about 5 years ago I went the naming scheme of vintage GM car names that end in 'A'... as I've added computers, I've added names... my network now consists of Ventura, Catalina, Electra, Invicta, Impala, and Omega.

Yup OK I've backed off lately going to the gym and I've reverted to walking my old route in the a.m., but I have a serious problem. Spiderwebs. I just hate it when I'm trucking along in my sneakers and *KABLAMMO* I walk into a single strand (or several) of those pesky tiny restraints, face-first, then I thrash around, clutching at them with my hands, trying to clear my path. If anyone's peeking out their window they must think I'm bat$h! crazy. Am I the only one this happens to?

Who saw it? I did. Visually, not as appealing as X3 or Batman Begins. Plotwise, not as good as Batman but on-par with (or slightly better than) X3's. Acting, about asgood as the other two. I think it may have been a bit too long as well. Overall, I'd give it a B+. It would find a place in my DVD collection.

this one is going to come completely out of left field for me, but right now I've gone more or less completely stir-crazy. Its been two days and two nights of having the house to myself and its TOO quiet!!!!!! I'm so used to having my wife and girl around the house that spending the past two nights alone has been hell for me. Can't sleep, can't really sit around the house and relax....can't really do anything. Its too quiet and its too peaceful around here!!!! I want them to come home.... I hate this feeling....its really weird.

I am currently in the process of gathering members both here and at C&G's rival site to rally against GM in light of their recent PR charade about transitioning the G8 to the Caprice. So many GM enthusiasts have begged and pleaded for Zeta's application in North America to be expanded beyond the new Chevrolet Camaro and yet GM continuously ignores us or, at best, makes promises it actually has no intention of delivering on. There was no way the "New GM' could have moved fast enough to actually determine if there was a business case for a new Chevrolet Caprice or Impala based on the Holden Commodore. GM sold so many enthusiasts and former enthusiasts an outright li…

The following is part of what greeted friends/family in an Email sent about 8:15p (central) on January 6, 2003: Hard to believe it has been 4 years since that Email was sent. A lot has changed (including Joy's boyfriend becoming her husband) ... some things have stayed the same. In a couple months (March), it'll be 20 years since my second open heart surgery, which was 9 months before my then-best-friend died 2 days after Christmas of an asthma attack. And, later this year, it'll be 30 years since my first open heart surgery. Thanks to (and despite) these anniversaries, life continues to be good ! Finally owning a house, it's time to set up the garage like I want. Pics: .jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" /> So, 2-car garage, extra deep on one side. Door on the right goes to the back yard, door on the left goes inside. I know I want to: -add insulation -generous amounts of pegboard -mount bench grinder & vice someplace -probably more lighting (though it is brighter than the pics make it seem) -rack for extra set of wheels (autox) -big air compressor -sink (pre-plumbed beside door in front of white car) -table or miter saw I'm expecting to decide to rebuild the work bench somewhat. SAN FRANCISCO – California's Supreme Court upheld the state's gay-marriage ban Tuesday but said the estimated 18,000 same-sex weddings that took place before the prohibition passed are still valid — a ruling decried by gay-rights activists as a hollow victory. Demonstrators outside the court booed, wept and yelled, "Shame on you!" Activists said they would go back to the voters as early as next year in a bid to repeal the ban, and a federal lawsuit seeking to overturn it was filed late last week. In a 6-1 decision written by Chief Justice Ron George, the court rejected arguments that the ban approved by the voters last fall was such a fundamental change in the Califor…

Just me and my good ol' 12 pack Keith's. My roommates all went home, to London and the rest all of a sudden all went down to NYC, in the middle of nowhere. I don't know how they're going to get there, because they were talking about taking Greyhound, but then AFAIK you need to book that. They also mentioned about getting a rental car, but again, rental companies are probably closed by now. Sounds wierd, but I don't care! I have the house now!

So, who's headed out to Hershey, PA this week for the annual AACA Fall Meet? The GM Futurliner will be there again - second time now (October '07 was its first visit to the show), and you are allowed to climb the stairs and sit int he driver's cockpit. This is a milestone year for me - my dad took me 20 years ago (1989) as a young and naive 14 year old first-timer, and I've been hooked ever since. And to celebrate this milestone I am taking my 4 year old son Justin with me this year - my 20th will be his 1st, and hopefully we can make this a father-son tradition for many, many years to come. I can't wait to take him into the Futurliner, and we've been looking at my 1…

a friend called today and we were BSing cars and he mentioned how some neighbors gave in to the toyota tide. normally, he said, they buy a lightly used domestic, on payments and keep it a few and trade it. now, this time, they were enticed by toyota nation and a 179/mo lease on the camry. basic 4 cylinder automatic. who knows what the down payment was, and its very few miles....but i wonder how much of this cheap lease dumping is keeping toyota's numbers up. that and fleets. and then the cars hit auction after a couple years. in any case, toyota must be able to prop up those lease deals with good residuals that are no doubt a factor of their reputation. why buy a …

I thought I'd give this Reatta for sale a free plug because I just feel bad for it... 1988 Buick Reatta - 63k - $7563 See, that car has been for sale at that dealership for over four years. I remember because I was showing it to a friend of mine shortly before I graduated high school in 2003. Back then, it had 62 and change on the clock and was listed at $10,000 even. I guess it accumulated ~500 miles from being moved back and forth between their two lots so much. Today, it was up in Palm Harbor again. I've seen it on eBay four times. I think they're still charging too much for it; $7500 seems pricey for a first-year Reatta hardtop in the all-too-common shade of red, …

You might be from Long Island if: You live in the shadow of the greatest city in the world, but you almost never go there. When you're away from Long Island, you love it and when you're there, you don't. You think if you're not from Long Island or NYC, you're not really from New York. You know the exact point at which Queens turns into Nassau simply on intuition. You don't go to Manhattan, you go to "The City". You never realize you have an accent till you leave. My Firefox has been a bitch lately. It's slower than usual and it even froze up on me earlier today. While Im not ruling this out, I highly doubt it's a virus or spyware as I'm not going to any irregular sites, just the same ones that I never had problems with even when I used IE. Now, not long ago, I did make it so I could watch videos and listen to music, but just for Youtube and Myspace. I just had some plugin installed that Mozilla's website suggested. I don't think it would have this affect on Firefox... but knowing my backwords working PC, I wouldn't doubt it. Otherwise, I don't know what could be causing Firefox to run so slow. Loopholes on the Death Bed A lawyer was on his deathbed and he called to his wife. She rushed in and said, "What is it, honey?" He told her to run and get the Bible. Being a religious woman, she thought this was a good idea. She ran and got it, prepared to read him his favorite verse or something of the sort. He snatched it from her and began quickly scanning pages, his eyes darting right and left. The wife was curious. "What are you doing, honey?" she asked. "I'm looking for loopholes!" he shouted.

Simple questions: When/Where was the first time you drove? What did you drive? For me: August 1988, Holsopple PA 1979 Blazer (2-tone red/white) While I was visiting my Aunt Thelma and Uncle Glen for a couple weeks, my Uncle Glen (who died 10 years later, the day the loan for my 1976 Monte Carlo was approved) took me with to do some errands. On the way back, instead of pulling into their driveway, he turned into the grassy field across the street, parked the Blazer and asked me if I wanted to drive. Naturally, I did. After that, my parents allowed me to move their '81 MC SC (now mine) out of the garage whenever we took that car. Cort | 36.m.IL | 5 Monte Carlos.1 …

I went to see the movie Click this weekend. It was a very good movie but it wasn't too much of a comedy. This was the most serious part I have seen Adam Sandler play in a movie. The first bit is funny but then the movie starts to get really serious. It actually makes you realize life better. It gives a good message and Christopher Walken plays a good part as well. I would say this is a must see movie. The Cadillac Sixteen concept even makes an appearance in the movie. Lucky Adam Sandler. He got to drive it, lol.

Wow, I was just sitting here thinking. The last time I was car payment-free was for a few months in 1998. I had my '94 S-10 paid off for a few months before I bought my first '98 Bug. Once in a while I get a wild hair and think of dumping my newer vehicle and buying something I could just purchase outright... no payments. That's $324 per month, plus the savings in changing unsurance coverages, that could be used for something else. But, there are so many cool new toys out there now. Such is life, I guess, when you're obsessed with vehicles like I am. They make me irrational! Does anyone else here feel the same?

Normal brake lights are fully operational as well but I think it is a very good feature and its works. The other day someguy was too close to me so i flicked it on and back he went. Also next I was thinking about wiring up a toggle switch with reverse lights to scare someone at a traffic light just flick it on. Any thoughts about my invention???

Ok, so my best friend and I have been locked in a (rather pointless) debate on whether or not icecream cake is actually cake, or just icecream. He believe that it's a lie, and is nothing more than icecream. I believe that, because it is designed and shaped like a cake, it qualifies as one. To put an automotive twist on this debate, I came up with the floowing analogy: Icecream Cake is like a crossover SUV. It looks like a traditional body-on-frame SUV, with high ground clearance and available FWD. However, underneath it's based off a car or minvian. It also under most cercumstances go offroad or tow like a "real" SUV. Yet it is still considered an SUV. Please vot…

http://www.techspot.com/news/34615-creator...-its-doors.html Which means Duke Nukem Forever could very likely live on as vaporware forever. Real shame, because I still have fond memories playing the earlier games secretly, because my parents weren't really fond of a 13 year old kid tipping topless 3D chicks and blowing up shiznat. If there was a king of video game role models, it was Duke.

Do you have any collectibles? Basically anything that could be worth something... especially as the years go bye. Anything from automobiles to scale models of automobiles or even old articles and stuff like that. If so, share it... I happen to have a few things. The first is a relatively good looking copy of a Popular Mechanics magazine from 1954. Again, it's in good condition considering its age. I know I have magazines that are less then 10 years old in worse condition than it... :P I also have another thing that is in damn good condition. It's a Radio Shack remote control Porshe 928. I forgot what year it's from but it hasn't been used... ever. It still has …

Renault-Nissan May Overtake Ford to Become #3 Just about everyone in the auto industry knows that Toyota Motor Corp. is on pace to pull ahead of General Motors Corp. (GM) as the world's largest carmaker this year or next. But less noticed has been a race just down the ranking tables, where another storied U.S. giant is facing similar pressure: Ford Motor Co. (F) is on the verge of being edged out by Renault (RNSDY)-Nissan (NSANY) for the No. 3 spot globally. As Ford shrinks to projected sales of 6.3 million vehicles for 2007, the French-Japanese alliance is likely to grow to 6.4 million, according to data from Morgan Stanley (MS) and UBS (UBS). Ford's catastrophic $12…

Say hello to my new 2007 Suzuki SV650S! I apologize for the crummy camera phone shots, and please excuse the pos in the background. This bike is a blast! I love it! So much fun, and it is cheap too! Low maintenance, and gets great mileage.

If what I saw during last nights Isles-Rangers game last night is any indication, the game IS going to be a lot more entertaining to watch. Lots of pretty plays. Here's hoping they enforce the changes.

My little dog passed away today. Meggie was fifteen years, 3 months old to the day. I got her in October, 1990. She was the runt, but I saw a puppy full of life and energy. She gave me infinite joy over the years. I have no idea what I'm going to do now. She was my constant companion her whole life. She slept with me each night. I'm lost, and numb right now. I love her and I miss her, always.

So, I want to design cars for GM. What colleges should I look for when selecting one, and what should I apply for that would give me a greater chance of becoming a designer for GM?

Let's hear some. Good or bad. Doesn't matter. Las Vegas...long weekend...not that warm, shucks...love the starkness of the desert landscape but wouldn't want to live there....there's a lot of low-life around (what do you expect in a gambling based town). Took the last flight back up and it ran late, so today at work was B...A....D.

Reading various posts around the board today, I realized that there are a lot of posters on the board that remind me of the Uncle Rico character. He was always dreaming of 1982 and wishing he could go back. I think some people here live in 1965 or 1985 or whatever year they want GM to be in again.

Okay, so I haven't checked on my favorite '87 Pontiac Grand Prix LE since the fall (maybe October?). And the dealership it is at - remember, this car is the dealer owner's personal car - lost both its franchises (Pontiac in '09 and Cadillac just recently in late 2010 or very early 2011). The building is now marked as an AC Delco repair facility though it looks emptier than before. I've been curious if his collection of cars was still in existence, namely my favorite Pontiac. So Friday night on the way home I stopped by to do a quick check. I was disappointed to see it missing from its parking spot inside the garage; however, I know the owner takes it out on nice weath…

Another sleepless night and I'm paging through a car brochure, this time the full-line prestige 1974 Buick brochure. In the case of the LeSabre and Century models, a 455 CID V8 option was available, interestingly enough with a 2V carburetor (the 4V version was also available, of course). And dual exhausts were available on this 2V option (single exhaust was apparently standard). AFAIK, this was the only year that the Buick 455 came with a 2V carb. Another interesting twist is that the ratings for the 2V version show higher peak torque (at a lower RPM) than any of the 4V versions. Fascinating. I'll try to scan the good stuff and post it here (if anyone's interested, tha…

http://www.cnn.com/2007/AUTOS/06/06/why_hy...suvs/index.html gas used = miles/mpg inverse proportional relationship is getting attention! Over 15,000 miles, 16.5 mpg = 909 gallons used. 20 mpg = 750 gallons used. 3.5 mpg difference = 159 gallons saved. To save as much on a car, 26 mpg = 577 gallons used. 36 mpg = 418 gallons used 10 mpg difference = 159 gallons saved. The relationship is inversely proportional, a hyperbola. gallons used = miles/miles per gallon y = k/x mpg improvements on low mpg vehicles are much more significant than mpg improvements on high mpg vehicles. aka "diminishing returns" if you're mathphobic.

Main machine here at the Balthazar Ranch is a Dell running Windows XP. As such- there are 'user profiles' so you can log on to each desktop- there are 4 of us, each with his own, and both the adults have password-protected profiles.... and only those 2 profiles are set-up to access the internet. My 2 sons' profiles cannot access the internet and they don't have our profiles' passwords. In due dilligence, I try and keep an eye on the older son's activities (he's 14), esp when on the 'net. He DOES have AIM. Can any internet-based pages be accessed thru AIM, because he's looking at some sort of text and what looks like harmless, amateur-level B&W drawings... but they a…

You'd be surprised that, even in coat and tie settings or in politics, people have always coined nickames for each other...be they good or bad. Some of the mumu ladies at the company I worked for in Atlanta called me the "crumb chaser" because I would "drop by" a buffet another department was holding...I was 5'10"/high 160s at the time, so they had room to talk (???) Some are geographic: "Santa Barbara" (G) - a spoiled, not a care in the world guy I work with who went to UCSB "West Texas" (NG) - a dollied-up co-worker who looks like a beauty contest entry from a small West Texas town for whom that would be the high point of her life "Reno" - (G) a lady with a hus…

I wasn't going to post about this at first, but decided it was a good idea to air some things. A while back, the GMC dealership sent me a letter for a free maintenance service, which I appreciated, being a new customer. Two Saturdays ago, I went in and had my first oil change and tire rotation. I was there at 8 a.m. for my appointment. About 20 minutes later, they pulled my truck into the shop. I ended up being there for about an hour and 20 minutes total. It was Saturday, I didn't have big plans, so ok. Everyone was courteous. Since then, when I was on the highway, I kept hearing this reverberation in my truck somewhere. I thought it may have been the pavement …
