So I hop back on syty.net (My rare visit to the site) to see a post about my old GMC Syclone up for sale in NY. I owned #1616 from '97-'01 and sold it with 33k on the clock. It now has 43k and the guy had it listed at $8500. I emailed him last night to find out it was already sold. Damn the luck!

... there about 9 hours with the brood and a friend of one of the brood. Hot as hell, but some slight breezes & some cloud cover. Rode every coaster in the park... finally my 12-yr old has decided he's no longer going to refuse even those that make him nervous (he tends to over-analyse them as they thunder by overhead)- so it was the best trip there we've made. El Toro kicks ass. But the real purpose of mentioning the event is.... Great Adventure in the circa 90-degree heat.... is positively a Cornicopia of Breasts. Either there's something in the water these days.... or brassiere technology has improved in lockstep with -say- tire technology since the '80s. Or is i…

I'm guessing probably not. In one of my psychology classes, we had a discussion on death yesterday, and took a quiz about how much we think/worry about death. The average is a 3 or 4, out of 15. I got an 11. Yeah. I rule. But then it got me thinking of how I wanted to die, and how I expected others to die as well. A few hypotheses: Sixty8: Don't want to give away too many details, but for a guy whose weekend hobbies include crashing cars into things, I assure you that it'll be the stuff of legend. FOG: Mysteriously vanished one night without a trace. The only thing the neighbors could say was that they saw a black Toyota Sienna with tinted windows driving th…

So you may or may not have heard that my brother was in a car accident and the Maxx was totaled. Anyways, because of complications over who is getting this new car and when (my sister's Alero is on its last legs), we haven't been able to narrow it down much until recently when my sister decided she should probably try to wait until spring to get a car (save money for down payment). Anyways, there's a dealer that we can get a new Cobalt 1LT at for $11K after discounts and $3500 GM card credits, so this is quickly becoming an option. My parents didn't want to buy anything too expensive because my brother is going to college next year and they would rather he not have an e…

A couple of years ago, my mother was driving her '05 Cobalt base sedan and constantly complaining about how hard it was to get in and out of it. She became aware of the 3 boxy hatchbacks that were hitting the market... xB, Cube, and Soul. She was enamored, I was bemused. Until I realized that for a little lady of her age (4'11", age 65 at the time), the ease of entry and cabin volume with small footprint, affordability and good fuel mileage might be ideal for her. So after test driving the Cube and Soul (with her in the passenger seat, amusingly), she decided on the Cube for its laid back, rolling living room feel and "unique" looks. The flat seats and soft suspensio…

Fullsize P/U Comparison: Toyota vs. Chevy vs. Nissan The 2007 Nissan Titan takes 3rd place in this group, though three years ago it placed 1st in its class with ease. With the introduction of the all-new Silverado and Tundra, the game has simply moved on, and the Titan's traditional character is cast in a harsher light. It has neither the capability of the Tundra nor the comfort of the Silverado, and the road manners of neither. It's not that the Titan is bad — it's that the other two are so good. The fact that the Titan's range of configurations isn't up to par with the others did not play into our scoring, but is a reality it must contend with in the marketplace. I…

Congress forces draconic new fuel economy standards on the OEMS and all v8 and v6 powered performance cars are forced from the market. A special permit is required to buy a v8 in a truck and all cars and trucks are forced to become hybrids. Now what do you do? Myself, I'll be buying all the old v8s I can get my hands on. I will never buy a new car again. And I'll buy a gun. Not joking. at all.

My dad is considering getting a third a car for all of us to run. With the Sunfire still having problems, my Millenia being impossible to diagnose, and my brother needing a car to pratice driving with... It would really be nice. He found a goldish 1999 Oldsmobile Alero GL coupe with 73k that he may get. Signed papers for it, but can back out if needed. Not sure of the price as he didn't really specify. Should atleast be better than the Sunfire, but then, what wouldn't be?

I don't mean vacation destinations here, I mean a place without neighbors you can see without driving. A place where property values aren't measured in dollars, and "society" is a distant rumor. I think I want to spend a few years in a place like that. Maybe even the rest of my life. What place would you nominate?

Money is not a great thing... having said that, the wife has brought to my attention that financially we're not in a "good place". Having bought the SKY last year and it's limited use has always been a sore spot with the wife (the home equity loan payment plus full insurance coverage don't help). She feels that by selling the car to pay off other debts would be the best thing financially, although she does say that she doesn't want the car to go. So anyway, if I had to sell the SKY, is anyone here interested in buying it? I'm trying to weigh out my options, like going back to my selling Saturn dealer and seeing what they'd offer to buy it, put an ad in AutoShopper o…

So, I don't plan on having the Toyota for too much longer. If it doesn't sell (seems like this will be the case), I'm just going to trade it in. My dilemma pertains to the recurring fact that I am beyond indecisive. I look at vehicle after vehicle, day after day, and I can never whittle down what exactly I want. My tastes are always changing based on the flavor of the day (usually something impractical). What I do know is this: I need a car. It should be cheaper to own (incl. gas, ins, etc.). It mustn't be a snore. I can't do another car like the Avalon; it kills me everyday. It must be a stick or at least a dual-clutch that isn't made by Ford/Fiat. It should have a f…

Anyways, I thought this was a strange question, but heck, I figured I'd throw on here... A friend of mine is coming back from Japan with his girlfriend, who is coming to live in the US.... She will be buying most of her clothes here, as my buddy will buy most all of it for her. He did have one request-he wants to get her a pair of those tight butt hugger (boot cut, maybe?) jeans... He asked this, knowing I don't have a clue when it comes to fashion. Anyone have an idea on this one? Levis Maybe? Though I must say, she is a pretty girl...(and quite funny too)

I went grocery shopping a little while ago, and I got a pretty good spot, right up in front. It just happened to be open, if it hadn't been, I would have parked further away, no biggie. Even with Alex with me, its not really that hard to walk a few yards to the door. So as I'm leaving, a car pulls into the aisle I was parked in and sees me unlock the car. So the woman (appeared to be mid-30's, by herself in the car, stops, puts on her turn signal and waits as I put my groceries in the trunk. And waits as I take the cart over to the cart return. And waits as I put my son in his car seat. All told, she probably waited 4-5 minutes for a good spot when there were sever…

I've learned many things. Most importantly, I've learned that I can start a hilarious meme that takes up multiple pages in a thread, then gets its own thread, currently at four pages, and likely to grow. I also learned that my fiancee can tell I haven't shaved by talking to me on the phone. 'Twas either a very good guess, or she could hear my facial foliage brushing against the phone. Finally, I learned that if I need clean boxers, they're on the back of the sofa.

It was a tumultuous year all around. The year started with the inauguration of a new President who represented hope and change, though not much has been delivered yet. The Great Recession took hold of the country in the aftermath of the financial meltdown of the previous year. Unemployment remains high and afflicts several members of C&G. During the year, the self-proclaimed King of Pop, Michael Jackson, died. Also lost were Walter Cronkite, screechy pitchman Billy Mays, Farrah Fawcett, Patrick Swayze, and Ted Kennedy. Jon and Kate were overexposed. From South Carolina came a new meaning for “hiking the Appalachian Trail” thanks to its governor and a new politi…

Maybe some of you guys don't wear any, but I do. I don't wear enough that you can smell me coming a mile away (you have to get pretty close), but I've gotten many compliments: all from female co-workers. When I was young, my favorite was Christian Dior's Eau Sauvage. I usually like light, citrus scents like Annick Goutal's Eau de Hadrien or Eau du Sud, which are primarily lemon and grapefruit. I switch in cooler weather to Index's Cucumber Baie and Pomegranite Anise. Lately, I've been wearing Serge Lutens' Borneo 1834, which is patchouli and cocoa, and his Chene, which is cedar, oak and thyme. If you like wearing cologne, I suggest you seek out the Index line by Fre…

When I moved into my current house, I bought my 2WD RC/LB F-150. I worked in graphic design then, but I needed a truck for around-house work, hauling firewood, car parts, towing, etc. In '06, now in my 6th year of construction/excavation, going off-road on job sites, plus now having 2 sons, required me to get at least a crew cab/4WD truck, so I did (2nd hand '04). Forward to today, no longer in excavation but still doing contractor/construction... I occasionally ponder vehicle requirements, esp once a current driver approaches 100K. 2500HD has 91K+, gets a steady 16 MPG, is pretty big to drive around (doesn't bother me, but Jersey is getting tighter all the time). Good…

It's a tad steep. ---- E3 2006: PS3 Date and Price Announced System to come in two configurations, will cost up to $599. by Jeff Haynes May 8, 2006 - In a last minute bombshell, Kaz Hirai announced the specific date and details of the PS3 launch. North America, Europe and Australasia will see the system six days later on November 17th. The price? $499 dollars or 499 Euros for the 2…

When I owned my '07 Saturn SKY, it was involved in an accident in November. The tire and rim were cosmetically damaged and were replaced during the repairs. I kept the original tire & rim and now want to sell them to raise some needed cash. The tire saw 495 miles as of the accident, and very little additional mileage until it was replaced. It has held air with no problems the 6 years its been in storage in my basement. Here are some recent pictures: Honestly, what do you think I could sell the tire & rim for? I was thinking $250, but not sure if that is too high or too low?

Hey guys: For those of you who celebrate it, have a great Easter Weekend. For the "mackerel snappers" in the bunch (derisive name for Catholics), remember it's Filet-O-Fish for lunch....just that 1 day a year....c'mon, we'll get through it. Sure would like to find a nice juicy broiled shark steak for dinner, though. Leave for Portland tomorrow and come back down Sunday night. My Mom said she won't be cooking any of the 3 days and, for Easter Sunday, these friends of hers who transplanted up there from LA within the last 6 months invited us to eat at their place. What are C&Ger Easter plans?

OK, so I am graduating very soon. I'm still working as co-op now, and have 4 more months of school to go, then it's done for me. So it's time for me to start thinking about what I want to do for full-time, for a living. A short while ago, I went for an interview with a major financial institution, and I was accepted and offered a position as a trainee analyst. However, the job isn't really exactly what I want to do for a living, *cough* programming and application development *cough* *cough*, and I honestly can say I totally suck at the stuff. I haven't taken the offer yet, I still have until December to decide whether I want to take the offer. The lady who interviewed …

Future GM North American Operations Please note that all information in this report is subject to change. GM is a very internally disrupted company at the moment and many programs have questionable futures. I will try to update and correct the information as I discover it and when I have a free moment. Also, I don’t include SAAB in my report, as it is part of GME, not GMNA. Chevrolet: Zeta: Impala (GMX551) development has been suspended indefinitely and development is now totally focused on a front-drive platform that’s larger than the 2008 Malibu. GMX551 was under scrutiny from the start of the study, which only increased in intensity as it progressed and new …

The 'OTY' thread got me to thinking about this. In terms of credibility, lack of bias, testing procedures, judging criteria, etc, etc, who do you feel is the best automotive review source out there? A big name like MT or C&D? Something more specialized like Top Gear or EVO? Something smaller like Autoblog, TTAC, Everyday Driver? And what is your reasoning behind your choice? Keep in mind I am limiting this to testers/reviewers, not sources for reliability, quality, etc.

Pecking Order of the Jeep 4x4 systems? Thanks to Drew, I had overlooked the web page that Jeep has on their powertrain systems. http://www.jeep.com/en/4x4/ Now that we have this great resource, I need some help in figuring out the pecking order of where things line up or are similar. The Quietus <--- Says a lot of truths about the band but isn't fair about the Load era (I loved the Loads and even St. Anger when taken into context) and BTW, I don't think the Red Hot Chili Peppers (as horrible as they are) ever really needed any help. On second thought, this review is pretty much pure $h!, claiming that "Load" almost finished MetallicA in 1996. Whatever…

Look at it as if one of these would have trickled over into every other issue and made most of what Detroit sold us back then desirable to this day and kept the reputation at a higher level. ETN: Look at the "not building Euro/AUS models for N. America" option to also reflect North American models being so extremely different from Europe and Australian-market GM, Fords, and Chryslers.

So I ran out to get some errands done. Here is what happened on the freeway and my understanding of the lanes here in Washington State. Far left lane for passing and those wanting to go a bit faster than the posted limit. Middle lane is for going at least the speed limit. Far right lane is for going speed limit or slower and exiting the freeway. I got onto the freeway, traffic moving below the posted 60 so moved over into the middle lane and ended up behind a lazy person going 10 under the speed limit. Full traffic behind and besides me in the left lane, so just stayed where I was at. The traffic in front of the person clears out so this person could speed up t…

So I went to a Christian rock concert tonight because a friend of mine wanted to go since he really likes the band that played. They're a local band that isn't really known outside of central Iowa. I had a couple drinks over at another friend's apartment and then went over with him to the frat where they were playing. So we're at the concert and there's probably 150-200 people there. The band starts to play its first song that sounds like it was ripped off a Rage Against the Machine album. Then they move onto the next song that sounds like something Linkin Park would play. Cut/copy/paste riffs, hoarse growling vocals, and the lead singer was jum…

My father's Bonneville is getting up in miles (98k and change) and my car is as well, but mine is almost a decade old while his is a little over five. The reason for the near 20,000mi/yr average for his car is that his job requires that he drive anywhere between 40 and 100 miles a day five days a week, sometimes even a bit more. So far, the Bonneville has proved itself an exemplary car with only a broken oil pressure sensor as the only non-accident related problem since the factory warranty expired. We have a 100,000-miles extended warranty through Geico with a rather high deductable to cover most major issues, but obviously that's coming close to the end. So, …

Add on whatever you like... I'll begin here... I don't much care for....Overhaulin doing brand new cars that are already performance oriented. First a Mustang, now a Magnum? If you're gonna do a brand new car, try something that ain't packing much in the balls department....like, I don't know, a Cobalt LS or something.

My parents are car shopping. They're looking at a lot of options, but I convinced them to look at an HHR, as they commute ~30miles each way daily, rarely have other people with them. So, fuel efficiency is a big plus, but they don't want to have to climb down into a small car, and my dad really likes a higher driving position like in a truck. Of course the HHR isn't that high, but it's better. They drove one and liked it pretty well. I'm under the impression that the HHR has been pretty well refined and a later model (they're looking at a 2010) should be really solid. Anyone aware of any key features to get or avoid?

It appears the weather will be cooperating (for the most part) for this year's massive Spring Cruise at Ocean City, MD. Thousands of hot cars of every description will descend on the ocean resort town starting today and running through the weekend. I'll be heading down Saturday morning to join some family members and probably spending the night. At a time like this I wish I had a digital camera so I could post a hugh jass picture thread when I get back. Is anyone else from here heading to Ocean City for this awesome event?

I had the chance to go about 6 years in Northern California. I declined. Girls that had NEVER done it before went. I'm sorry, that's too stupid of a thrill to risk bodily harm. Heck, you could even get messed up when you land.

So tonight, I'm surfing the web, talking to my boss on the phone, and getting ready to start reading an article about Planes in a woodworking magazine. Get a call from my 17year old son...he is about to be charged with a federal crime... Seems he and a friend took a BB gun into a field, next to our subdivision, with his friend...they had the permission of the owner of the field to use it. Someone called and complained, and the boys had photographs of a few prominent political figures they were going to be using as targets...both Republicans and Democrats, lest any of the C and G people get sand in their vagina over this one. So apparently it is as much of a federal cr…

I have had the wifie out testing driving a few of the cars that she likes.... Nox, Vibe, Vue. Test drove the Vue today. Rode in-but haven't driven one yet. Drove two models- one w/ the 4 banger-and other a v6... Test drove the V6....she liked. But soon as it's my turn to drive...we get quick rush of rain...then someones pulls out in front of me. How come my few minutes suck? The sun rolled out for a few mintues...looked like a storm was on the way... The nice saleslady thinks we have time for a quick spin in the other Vue before the storm.... little did we know a severe storm was rolling in...... Weather was fine thoughout the wife's drive. The seco…

So here I am with my girlfriend in Wichita, KS for the summer. In May I flew down here, on August 20th, we're gonna driver her car back to Massachusetts. Her car is a 1994 Geo Prism, 1.6, with a 5-speed manual and 164K miles on it. As we know, the Prism is a basically a Toyota Corolla, with a slightly different front and rear end, and different center stack. The body is in great shape, save for a dent in teh passenger fender and a missaligned bumper, but has no rust at all. Sounds like a good car right? WRONG First the timing belt needs to be replaced, second it slips out of 3rd, and won't even go into 4th. Sometimes it won't go into Reverse. We went to Cottman Transmis…

WASHINGTON – States cannot ban the sale or rental of ultraviolent video games to children, the Supreme Court ruled Monday, rejecting such limits as a violation of young people's First Amendment rights and leaving it up to parents and the multibillion-dollar gaming industry to decide what kids can buy. The high court, on a 7-2 vote, threw out California's 2005 law covering games sold or rented to those under 18, calling it an unconstitutional violation of free-speech rights. Writing for the majority, Justice Antonin Scalia, said, "Even where the protection of children is the object, the constitutional limits on governmental action apply." Scalia, who pointed out the viol…

Does anyone know what 2014 GMC Sierra is on display at the Chicago Auto Show? The Philadelphia Auto Show had a Stealh Gray Metallic on display, while mystik posted a Quicksilver one on display at the Houston Auto Show. I believe an Onxy Black All Terrain Sierra was on display at the NAIAS, not sure if any other colors were shown there.

At about 6pm saturday night the Ute was travelling down a 50kmh zone (at an eyewitness estimated speed of between 150 and 200kmh). They have gone through one of Kalgoorlie's notorious spoon drains and launched into the air. Upon bouncing back to earth something broke and the driver lost control, jumped the curb and impacted the tree pictured. It has literally torn the ute in half , seperating fuel tank, rear firewall, tray, bumpers and tray liner. The owner of the ute is just 18 and hasn't had the car for long. He wasn't driving. An age unknown friend was, and witnesses say they both appeared to be drunk. Initial reports were that the owner was out of the ute yelling a…
