My point and shoot Canon SD850IS camera does not start. It initially had problems focusing (as BV and DF noted when I took some pictures of my cars). Now it does not even turn on charge even with the battery fully charged. I tried various things like plugging to the computer and trying to start, using spare battery, etc. with no avail. Do you know any place which will fix it and how much do you think it is to fix? I like the camera for the simple facts that it was handy, had a view finder along with the screen and had great image quality - something which was must for me while taking pictures in the field. I do not want to spend close to $300 for a new one of similar capa…

I've got 1 gay friend. Who here sees a problem with this? I'm running into problems... to those who have gay friends--is it always about "being gay" or is it just about things that happen in a friendship? I've noticed that I'm the gay guy. Girls want to hang out with me because I will compliment their hair, hold their packages, talk to them aboug guys, give them a good laugh. They also want to go to gay bars to have fun. I'm starting to almost feel like a freaking novelty item. I have one gay friend--and I've only know him for like a year... and that's because we began as dating. He's the first gay guy I've managed to meet nearby that acts like a human being--t…

I know I am not the most popular person around these here parts. I was. But I am not now. I can see by the way of some of you refer to me when I am elsewhere. And. Though I have found a new home over at the GMI there are times I really miss the fun and friendships I made on this side of the GM pond. So to all, I apologize for all my ill will and unkind attitude towards you all. For those who felt hurt, bothered or offended by my actions I deeply apologize and hope you can forgive me. Maybe. Just maybe one day I will return and we can be one big happy family again. You are all truly the best people I could ever hope to meet. April Fools. You think I was serious? You …

We've never had a toaster oven and I didn't feel like I was missing much. However teh place I work at has a B&D Toast-R-Oven (must be a few years old) that I use every day since I began work. Love being able to reheat pizza, toast a sandwich etc. VS a microwave. I like their oven because in addition to temp settings, a timer, and toast darkness dials, there's a button to press for toasting, and it shuts off as soon as you open the door. So now I want one. The question is what to get? Browsing online shows lots of mixed reviews. For these things. It seems a lot of B&D products get bad reviews (catch fire, die, toast unevenly. etc.). There's this oven Proctor…

of my malibu SS sedan. I absolutley love it. The graphite colored cloth/leather interior with the faux aluminum trim, 3 spoke wheel and other SS trim bits is really sharp. the 3.9 is deffinetly fast in this lighter malibu than it is in teh g6 gtp and the gtp was getting very respectable mid to low 0-60 times and good quarter mile times to begin with. The sport suspension and hurdallic steering are very well balllanced and calibrated and I like the tossability and handling of the shorter wheelbase epsilon though it makes for noticably more tourqe steer than the long wheelbase cars. My car is black with a sunroof. Only option it doesnt have is the 6 disk changer an…

So, I just started at Pizza Hut as a delivery driver. Yesterday was my first day, while today I started making deliveries on my own. No big deal here and that's mostly good news, being that I needed a job and all. I made $22 in tips and work went fairly smoothly. With that said, I started off the day by nearly running out of gas. Why? My fuel gauge doesn't work. When it started sputtering, I thought "Sh!t, I have no chance in hell of making it to a gas station." Up hills, I rocked back and forth in a fury to slosh what little fuel I had into the pump's pick up. That worked for only a little while, unfortunately. It came to a point where that seemed to make it worse and …

... didn't even have to use my A.K. Okay seriously. We stopped by at Marcia's Grandmother's house and when we were leaving Sofia blew a kiss to Gram in that cute two-year-old-angel kind of way. Gram said she reminded her of the girl (back in the day) who used to blow a kiss at the end of some variety show right after she sang the "See the USA in your Chevrolet". Call me crazy but that made my day. Gram & Gramps (who is now in a home due to his Altzheimer's ) have owned several cars from Chevrolet over the years. As a matter of fact Gram says besides the 1996 Grand Marquis and two late 50s Plymouths they always had Chevrolets. Several Biscaynes/Impalas and then a…

I got myself out of bed early Wednesday morning to get a haircut before work. I got to the barber shop, noted the people ahead of me (couple of middle-aged guys, an older gentleman and his grandson, about 5-8 years old), and plopped down in a chair to "rest my eyes". Within minutes, the TV blared a promo for the new movie, "Cars". My ears perked slightly, in part because I'm eager to see this movie. The promo ended, and I went back to "resting my eyes", though not for long. Within seconds, a voice piped up: "That movie doesn't look good." Suddenly, my dreary eyes were not so dreary anymore. I looked at the young kid who had just uttered those words. While my mind…

Apple and Wild Rice dressing: two loaves of french bread, ripped up into bitesize chunks & soaked in chopped onion, celery hearts, Red Delicious apple, sage, poultry seasoning, powdered buttermilk, wild rice (cooked in a separate pan ahead of time), chicken broth and plenty of margarine (all sauteed together until the veggies are …

Monochromatic, a form of monochrome, is defined as: Though a form of the word 'chrome' is contained within the word, the word itself does not refer to removing chrome trim from an automobile or exchanging chromed trim pieces for those that are body-colored. That instance is referred to as exchanging chromed trim pieces for those that are body-colored. This is not monochromatic. In fact, it contains many colors. This may be considered to have a monochromatic paint scheme because the exterior paint is only one color, not multi-toned. Thank you.

We talk about all kinds of meaningless crap in The Lounge - why not this? Everytime that the douche bag cleaning people come into our office and put in new toilet paper rolls, they place them so they dispense/roll from the bottom. It bugs the hell out of me, especially at a critical time. At home, the roll dispenses from the top. Virtually any household I've ever been to has the toilet paper dispense from the top of the roll. Does this irk you as well?

I don't know how many here have ever seen the movie "Tommy," but I'm sure many have heard The Who song Pinball Wizard. I wonder how long it will take for the negative PR wheels to start turning on this one... BARKHAMSTED, Conn. -- Fire officials suspect an electric hybrid car may have sparked an overnight blaze in a garage in Barkhamsted on Center Hill Road. Homeowner Storm Connors and his wife, Dee, said they awoke to the sound of a smoke alarm around 4 a.m. The couple said they have lived in the home for nearly 40 years. They built it and raised their children there, so when the flames took over their attached garage Thursday morning, burning it down to its beams, the couple started to panic. They said they were worried they were going to lose their home and the memories inside. "I w…

Taking a deep drag on his cigarette while resting on the steering wheel of his truck, he looks like a parody of a middle-aged lorry driver. But the image covers up a much more disturbing truth: At just the tender age of two, Ardi Rizal's health has been so ruined by his 40-a-day habit that he now struggles to move by himself. The four-stone Indonesia toddler is certainly far too unfit to run around with other children - and his condition is set to rapidly deteriorate. But, despite local officials' offer to buy the Rizal family a new car if the boy quits, his parents feel unable to stop him because he throws massive tantrums if they don't indulge him. Yes, tonight sometime soon Top Gear goes off of the airwaves. No, not for good (hopefully), but at some time tonight season 19 does officially end ... maybe. Of course, since Top Gear always leaves you with horrible between-season withdrawls (the long wait for the new season was like going through heroin, cocaine, oxycodone, and smoking joneses all at the same time), you eventually find yourself searching between seasons for something else to watch that will fill the void until the new one debuts. Besides watching the take-it-or-leave-it 'Mericun version that airs on the History Channel, YouTube has begun to offer quite a lot in the way of auto-related programming that is…

If you’ve read today’s newspapers you’re probably aware that James May has had a spot of bother with an airship. The good news is that our brave hero has emerged from the slightly scratched wreckage UNHARMED. After PLUMMETING to the ground at a MASSIVE two miles an hour, May’s craft SLAMMED into a small bush and then just sort of STOPPED. Thankfully, trained rescue staff were on the scene in seconds to intercept James as he stepped out of the airship and were able to administer a much needed flask of TEA and some NICE BISCUITS. May has since returned home for a SIT DOWN and some light piano practise, after which he is reported to be “very well, thank you for asking”…

I think its one of the their very best episodes. Our success though was not the biggest surprise on this trip. We came here wondering if America had finally made a car that might actually work in the civilized world. The answer is no, they haven't. As you can see from our smiles, they've made three.

We don't get exactly the same cars, but the review is still relevant (besides being entertaining) as the Vauxhall is related to our Malibu/G6/Aura/9-3 and the Mazda is related to our Ford Fusion. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B6UrigjFYD8&search=top%20gear http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2n_CkHoWc6s&search=top%20gear That's some SERIOUS understeer...

WASHINGTON - The Pentagon's top general expressed regret Tuesday that he called homosexuality immoral, a remark that drew a harsh condemnation from members of Congress and gay advocacy groups. In a newspaper interview Monday, Marine Gen. Peter Pace, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, had likened homosexual acts to adultery and said the military should not condone it by allowing gays to serve openly in the armed forces. In a statement Tuesday, he said he should have focused more in the interview on the Defense Department policy about gays — and "less on my personal moral views." He did not offer an apology, something that had been demanded by gay rights groups. "Ge…

I think we've had threads like this before, but maybe not on the new forum. Anyways, last night I took out four of my friends on a country road with no one around and we went 132MPH in the GTO before we had to shut it down (stop sign). I could tell a noticealbe difference in acceleration with 600 extra pounds of weight in the car, but it still picked up pretty damn quickly. Somewhat amazingly, the GTO still felt totally under control and stable at that speed. We also did some sweet donuts in a parking lot with plenty of smoke, but that's another story. On a side note, I think I've been at 115+ 4 times now. So, what's the fastest everyone's gone in a vehicle?

Top 10 most expensive cars on the market today: http://www.automotoportal.com/article/Top_...rs_in_the_world I love the Veyron but $1.7 million? WTF! The ENZO for seven figures is equally if not more insulting. I knew that $h!pile was expensive but I thought it was like 750K not a cool mill. If I spent a million on car(s) I'd have half of my top 100 dream cars & money left over for registration.

Went to see Transformers last night with Julie & a few friends. I was very happy with the movie. Let's just say that it's quite possibly THE best movie of all time. It makes Casablanca seem like a B- rated porno. By contrast Gone With The Wind would be a made for TV Lifetime movie & Citizen Kane would be Speed 2. All joking aside here's 10 reasons why the movie kicked A$$! 10. Even a 1974 Camaro rocks given some TLC & a little faith 9. Mustang = BAD, Camaro = GOOD 8. If Transformers DID exist they sure as hell WOULD only disguise themselves as RWD cars... 7. As cool as it was the catroon can't hold the candle to todays CGI 6. The Energon Cube mak…

I find most forum Topic Titles are so long. It's like the whole story is in the title. Hard to read at a glance. Could we go with an unwritten rule keeping it to 5 words or less in the main title and subtitle? Think of what newspapers and magazines do with their titles. Just an idea. What do you think?

Topless Model! Yep, right now The Car Connection is featuring a topless model on their front page...a Rolls-Royce convertible prototype. (Admit it. How many of you held out a little hope?) The car looks to be in the vein of the 100EX concept, basically a Phantom convertible which Roller stated they had no plans to build. Also featured are blurbs on hybrid incentives, more Ford buyouts and the status of Delphi-IAE talks. Read The Car Connection's Daily Edition for April 27, 2006

On top of sandbagging and evacuating my office today, I just heard that a tornado struck a boy scout camp in Western Iowa and flattened it, killing four scouts. Apparently it came up quick and they had no time to get into proper shelter. Definitely some terrible weather we're having lately...they have closed down downtown, so I get Thursday and Friday off from work. The river is going to crest Friday morning at 24' above flood stage, which is a level they have never seen here before. The cops came into work today and told everyone we had to evacuate the building. Before that, we carried 2000 drawings dating back to 1979 up to the second floor. Now all bridges acros…

Damn...I love tornadoes and spring storms but sometimes it's just too much. I can't imagine what the people of Greensburg, KS, must be going through right now....90% of the buildings in this town of 1500 people are gone. Historic Main Street is gone, the water tower is gone, the high school is gone...somehow the elevators and the courthouse pulled through. Watching a mile and a half wide tornado coming straight for your hometown...that must truly be terrifying. Eight confirmed dead so far. http://www.kansas.com/static/slides/050507tornadoaerials/

So yesterday was another ho-hum sunny, 75 degree day, then last night came and brought with it the evil storm clouds. I was at my girlfriend's house, which was right in the path of the strom, about two blocks away a tornado dropped, threw some loose stuff around, downed some power lines, ripped off some shingles from a few roofs, nothing too damaging, the worst damage was done by baseball (according to the weatherman it even got to be cell phone sized ) hail. We had nothing, no hail, just some rain and enough wind to throw up some loose grass and make my car really dirty. At least I thought that was the worst of it, I found out that really wasn't the worst. About fou…

Toronado Appreciation

You know, I found a little more respect for the last generation Toronado today. I was browsing the Heritage section of Oldsmobile's site today, and I looked through the 1980s photos. There was a photo of a basket handle shifter, a part that was sometimes seen on hi-po Chevelles and Camaros back in the late Sixties and Seventies. When I go to a classic car show, I always get a kick out of that particular interior piece. I thought it was initially part of a concept car's interior. Then I saw that a part of the side-out pop-up read "1986 Toronado." Also, the last-generation Toronado dash had such an array of interesting features. But, I'll let the photos try to speak that p…

I'm not even going to pretend the car is salvagable. I was going about 50ish in a 55 into a left curve, the car got away from me (not entirely sure how) and I went off the road, cartwheeled through an embankment, the car ended up on the passenger side in a field. I shut the car off and crawled out through the sunroof, then ran around looking for my phone. The woman who was in front of me turned around, when I saw her up on the road (a good 20 feet above my head) I could see her jaw had just dropped. She called 911, I found my phone in the grass and called work (I was on a delivery) my girlfriend and my insurance agent. A doctor happened to be driving by and she let m…

Bettie Page So sad that she passed. A lot of people thought she was already dead, since she basically fell off the map in '58. She was a revolutionary, helped fire up the sexual revolution and gave women the courage to explore their sexuality. Amazing lady and we owe her a lot.

I'm not much of a wine drinker, but I know people who are. My tastes lean toward dessert wines that taste more like candy than proper wine. I do, however, enjoy a good wine tour. Finding local craftspeople who can turn grapes into interesting potent potables, hearing their stories, and drinking their concoctions is a great day out. In order to share this experience, I wrote a little piece on our latest wine tour. Not many people think of Pennsylvania as wine country (or even HAVING a wine industry), but it exists. Take a few minutes to read the whole article below and post some comments here on your thoughts. Even if you're not near this region, I'm sure there are winer…

Need some tow hitch advice: I want to put a motorcycle carrier on the back of an Avalanche. The carrier is rated for a 600 lb bike and weighs 97 pounds itself. One of these: http://amzn.to/2x1Hkc0 The bike I want to put on there is 485 fully fueled for a total weight of 582 after adding the carrier. I know much is made about tongue weight when towing, but I'm not really towing in this case, it's really just a platform with a bike riding on it. Can I put this setup on an Avalanche with a 500 lbs max tongue weight? The max tongue weight with a weight distributing hitch (which is not possible in this scenario) is at least 800lbs depending on setup, so the meta…

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. -- Town officials in Framingham are trying to strike out a problem. A replicated Fenway Park in a Framingham yard is causing quite a stir. Ryan O'Connor, 18, the teen who built it, and his family are now going to bat for their ballpark. The miniature Fenway Park used as a wiffle ball field is adorned with signs, including a three-by-four foot Mobil sign in centerfield. "I don't know why anyone would complain; it's not a bad field of a public nuisance at all, and the Mobil sign, I mean we're not trying to be a gas station, we just want to have some fun in the summer," O'Connor said. But seems not everyone's a fan. Complaints from neighbors hav…

When very little I really liked matchbox or dinkie toys and really got stoked when they had a trailer hitch with something to pull. I had a favorite car and camper trailer. But my dream toy was always a pedal car and never got one. We lived in the mountians and nothing but gravel, really slowed them down. I would have been in Nirvana with this:

"Please give me a lobotomy, I'll buy a Camry for its superior fuel economy" ------ Okay, so GM is taking a thrashing in the media, all I hear is how much they suck... and yet a few days ago I was in traffic in the M.B., at a red light, nex to a mid-90s MR2 turbo. Made me think. Toyota, the 'Chosen One' the Holy Grail of automotive answers to questions most people have never asked, the mcanufacturer that for some reason gets pro-bono filatio from 92% of all "media" in and out of the Automotive Journalism field... let's recap what exactly they have been doing with themselves in the past decade. The gross MR-Spyder replaced the MR2 and …

I sooo want this.... 2006 XLR with 1,639 miles I want to just drive up to the dealer and trade my Buick in right now... It's odd. I don't usually have a desire for RWD, two-doors, or convertibles... but I've always wanted an XLR... all the way back to the EVOQ concept. They're "becoming" reasonable now. The price on this one is great IMO.

Here is a letter that you can use to pass the info on to your local media. Make sure to read the report and check out the video. I think ANY automotive fan would find it of interest. I have a news story that I think would intrigue many viewers. There is a product purchased by "A" celebrities to show they are "green". This product violates human rights and most people don't know it. The story is about workers rights on a company that many people in the US associate with an environmentally positive company. Please check out http://lauraflanders.firedoglake.com/2008/...t-worker-abuse/ and http://www.nlcnet.org/admin/media/document...N_FINAL_WEB.pdf Than…
