Buick
Founded in 1903 by David Dunbar Buick, Buick is one of America’s oldest automobile brands and the oldest active division of General Motors (GM). Known for pioneering innovations like the overhead valve engine, Buick became a symbol of affordable luxury throughout the 20th century. It played a key role in GM’s growth and today positions itself between Chevrolet and Cadillac, offering premium vehicles in both the U.S. and China—its largest market.

Well, i must start off by saying i am more then delighted with this car. upon driving by the dealer yest. i saw a black on black CXS sitting in the front of the dealer. had to see it up close. now before i really get into it i must admit, i am 24 years old and when i think Buick i think of AARP, wipser 2000, prunes and their juice. i have never ever ever said, "wow, thats a nice Buick." from the onset, this one was a "wow, thats a nice Buick" i test drive cars almost religiously. if its new and out, i have prolly attempted to drive it. i am n the market for a new car in the near future and have been looking at the Acura TL, Infiniti G35 andthe ne…

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1997-BUICK-...1QQcmdZViewItem Despite of the common "guppy face" name, I've always loved the last gen Rivera all around on the exterior and while the interior I thought was quite nice, I thought it was a bit bland and lacking something. This car could be a possibility of being my next car and if that's the case one thing I have considered doing is maybe installing a wood dash. After seeing some of these pics on that auction I'm not so sure any more. Perhaps one with black or beige (definately not blue!) leather and a darker wood it might stand out a bit more. Any thoughts?

I drove a new Lucerne yesterday; what an awesome car!! Quiet, powerful, tight yet very smooth ride; I may get one rather than a new Impala SS... The portholes on the Lucerne made me think... When did Buick do away with them alltogether? I'm thinking early to mid 1980's on the LeSabres and Electra/Park Avenues was the last time I remember seeing them in some form, but I might be wrong...

After many tries at snagging a LaCrosse from Alamo or Avis for a weekend, I finally succeeded. It was at the Alamo location at LAX. Interestingly enough, I had just taken a Friday off in Las Vegas where I had a Grand Prix, so I got to test them back to back. In short, I used to drool over the LaCrosse. Now, it's just a nice car. Chief among my disappointments was the purported quietness. Maybe this only applies when equipped with the 3.6 VVT V6. With the base 3800, the engine roar is just a tad quieter than it is on the Grand Prix. I took the LaCrosse out to the desert and back as well as all around the West side. The ride is fairly controlled yet pavement ga…

The black grille on the Lucerne looks gorgeous. It's actually black chrome, not the matte black plastic we are used to. I personally prefer it over the all chrome grille. The press photos just don't do justice. I saw it in person.

Okay, I remember one model year in the last generation Buick Century, around 2002 or 2003 or so, reading that the grille received a minor change... that and the Regal. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? And if so, does anyone know what the changes were because I never could tell, and I saw a Century today and it made me think of this. It bugged me for a while back then and today it just rebugged me so any help would be great!! :)

well I'm not exactly sure how to proncounce "Lucerne" But what does it mean? and that the point? I mean I know generally when you put STS or G6 or XLR... people would rather say Cadillac, Pontiac, Lexus, Mercedies Benz, etc... so is that the point of making a word that might seem difficult on the tounge to new comers? get people saying... "Thats that.. um.. that um... that BUICK" I mean its a great car and its kind of a shocker car for the buick line up... so many plain looking vehicles for so many years... Its almost a shock to say... you know... look at that buick! so I ask... why did the name Lucerne get chosen to be the new class le…

Has anyone else here signed up for the Lucerne V.I.P. Premiere Night that's being held tonight (Tue., Dec. 13th)? Select Buick dealers are holding this event for those who previously registered on Buick's Web site. Strange thing is the Buick dealer right around the corner from me isn't, but I have to drive about 15 miles or so to another dealer. My baby is sick, so I'm not sure if the wife will let me go, but I was wondering how many C&Ger's were going.

By Jamie LaReau Automotive News / December 12, 2005 The important part: Enclave production will begin in early 2007. The vehicle, which should debut in spring 2007 as a 2008 model, replaces the Rendezvous sport wagon and Rainier mid-sized SUV. Analysts and dealers say the Enclave will be a full-sized crossover with three rows of seats and a standard V-6 engine. The vehicle should have a base price near $27,000, with prices rising to $40,000 for a fully equipped model, sources say. Whole story: http://www.autonews.com/article.cms?articleId=55696

While getting my 01 Regal LS winterized this morning, the salesman who sold me the Regal offered a one-owner 05 Lacrosse with 10,000 miles for a test drive. It was a silver CXL. I checked to see if it fit the garage (it did) and took it out 10 miles out of town to check highway driving. It was hard to tell if it was quieter than the Regal, as we have a lot of wind in central Kansas right now, but it seemed so while in town. Ride was very tight and controlled and brakes felt confident, and much improved over my Regal. In fact, the ABS brakes on my car have been checked twice because of pulsing, but no problems have ever been found. Seats, while somewhat less conforming an…

From seeing the inventory at a local Buick dealer I noticed that the base model has a chrome grille and the other 2 have shiny black grilles. This is ass backwards; the CXS, which has a chrome strip on the lower trunk edge, chrome exhausts, etc., is the one that should have the chrome grille, not the base model; what are these people thinking!

During a lull in work this afternoon I was nosing around a Buick Pontiac dealer in West Palm Beach. A CXL V-6 model was in the showroom. It was platinum with a gray interior, six person seating. To tell you the truth it did not look bad for a base model with leather, chrome wheels and driver confidence package. The seating is comfortable and the dash and interior looks a lot cleaner than what I am accustomed to. The body lines are interesting in person. The horizontal body crease just below the belt line flattens out, disppears, around the wheel wells. The creases in the hood flatten out and disappear as they go down toward the grille. I looked at a black Lucerne CXS tha…

Maybe we’ll finally get some respect for Buick with the 2006 Lucerne. It has been getting great reviews from the press (and so has its sister, the DTS) and now Buick is killing the Dream Up campaign and focusing on “Precision”. Three new TV ads will debut with the new “Beyond Precision” tagline focusing on precise panel gaps, heated wiper fluid, and “Mr. Aachen Head” a device that Buick uses to capture interior noise levels. Thanks for waking up GM. The problem is the first commercial I saw for the Lucerne was at the end of a “Red Tag Event” spot, even though the new Buick isn’t included in the sale. -Walt Keegan FROM GM: Mr. Aachen Head (and Tom Bosley? Struggling to appeal to young buyers, Buick pins its future on change Friday, November 18, 2005 By Don Hammonds, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Buick, the linchpin around which General Motors built its empire, lately has been part of the problem rather than part of the solution for the struggling automaker. Like other GM makes, analysts say, Buick has been slow to respond to changes in market tastes, has kept cars on the market for too long without significant changes, and has a lingering consumer perception of quality control problems.... http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/05322/608337.stm

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Buick-CXL-B...1QQcmdZViewItem The door panels look great, better than the DTS's, but the dash... it's just lacking something. The HVAC/stereo controls look particularly downmarket. And outside, from the side, it looks like a flattened asymmetrical bell. Still, nice to see progress. Most of the materials look fine. And the anthracite wheels look great, though they don't fit the car's body. Unlike the Lucerne, the DTS doesn't look like it's floating, even with the 17" wheels.

Buick is hoping to become the American Lexus - and the '06 Lucerne is the model Buick hopes will change buyer's hearts and minds. Or at the very least, get them to give Buick a shot at their business before they buy their next Lexus. Based on the car itself, they should. The Lucerne, which replaces the Park Avenue as Buick's top model, stands a good chance of changing their image dynamic and of doing so without completely alienating the current buyer pool. This is a handsome ride, for starters, smooth and purposeful. The Lucerne has a steeply sloped windshield, a crisp beltline and minimalist ornamentation save for a nicely done reinterpretation of the classic Bu…

Buick drops Aerosmith song New tag line will stress engineering By Jamie LaReau Automotive News / October 24, 2005 LAS VEGAS - Buick is retiring the "Dream Up" marketing tag line it introduced barely a year ago to appeal to younger, wealthier buyers, according to dealers. Buick's new slogan is "Beyond Precision." Dealers say Buick's marketing general manager, Steve Shannon, announced the tag line at General Motors' 2005 Dealer Business Conference here last week. Dealers say that the change will take effect in November or early December and that Buick will drop the Aerosmith song "Dream On" from its TV commercials. …

This is quite an extensive article written in anticipation of the new Lucerne which I found fairly objective and it also brings up a few interesting points such as offering the supercharged 3.8 in the Lucerne. I don't know how knowledgeable this guy is to the future plans of the Lucerne but nobody here has really brought that up as even a potential option for the Lucerne. The article seems to be friendly to GM but it also points of some weaknesses of the Lucerne that are pretty crucial, such as the Avalon getting their V6 to 5 more HP than Lucerne's V8. http://www.mysanantonio.com/business/stori...k.20db0e19.html

Okay... #1 - It's stated on the Buick website that the front and rear defrosters turn on when the remote start is used on the Lucerne and the temp is below 40 degrees. Is this true for the LaCrosse as well? It doesn't say. #2 - It says the Lucerne features a 4-speed electronically controlled transmission that is "enhanced". Enhanced in what way? Finally, why on Earth has the Lucerne only been given 1-auto down window?! I mean, even the Rainier features 2... as well as the competition mostly has dual auto down windows (with auto up). What's goin' on here? It can't cost THAT much more money, can it?

Holds true to the looks of the 2003 concept...only better. More muscular. Lexus RX.. look out! Rainier is done Terrazza is out after 2007 Plans for a RWD V8 flagship still being considered... but at least 4 years away. Same for Velite coupe. Debating new vs. Holden platform.

Earlier in the year C&G uncovered images of a yet to be seen Buick model that we were unsure of its origin. However with the latest news on a new "Super" line of Buicks set to be released the obvious became clear. We've found the new face of the LaCrosse. We expect this FWD, V8 LaCrosse to debut late in '07 with the entire line-up featuring this new grille and facia look in '08. When referring to this story please do NOT copy & paste the information instead LINK TO this story! Very Special Thanks to CSpec for the information provided above!

Alright I know I am going to hear the internal competition argument here. But really why not make a Buick kappa with a 3.9 HV V6, we know it will fit or a supercharged 3.9 and a hard top? You could charge about $28,000 for a base model with it coming pretty loaded and sell an Ultra with the 3.9 supercharged v6 or the 3.6 HF V6 and charge $32,000. Seriously it would help fill capacity at Willmington AND it would lower peice cost due to increased volume. Key competitors would be the Chrysler Crossfire and Audi TT. Heck this idea just came to me style it after the Velite OR make it retro styled after late 40s Buicks. Any comments or suggestions guys? Possibly a p…

I love Buick, not for what it currently is but for what it was back in the 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s 80s, and even 90s. and more importantly what it COULD be. I went to the website the other day and was kind of saddened by the lackluster model lineup and crappy model names. With a rich history of awsome names like Century, Electra, Invicta, Riviera, Roadmaster, Regal, Centurion, LeSabre, Park Avenue, Super, Special, Skylark, Grand Sport, Grand National, Wildcat you'd think at least a fe of them owuld be used to resurrect the brand, but nope... instead we get two cars and two SUVs. WTF? This is not the Buick that's going to win backl serious sales. Th…

This is kind of late considering the PA is no more, but I was behind one in traffic last night and observed what a nicely designed rear end they have...(it was a dark blue late model version with 'supercharged' badging). I don't see big Buicks around here very often, and following one in an SUV you get an interesting view down on the rear end...the way the rear fenders curve up and then down and inward..definitely a strong family resembalance to the last Riviera. The last PA was a great looking car, IMHO.

As a Buick owner, I receive a magazine by Buick every season called "The Style Review." (I definitely look forward to it ^_^ ) I just received the Fall 2005 issue and on the cover is a Lucerne. My first thought was "That grille looks like it's all chrome..." but I immediately rejected the idea as light reflecting off of the Lucerne's glossy black grille. So I looked inside. By page 16, there was no doubt about it. Both of the Lucernes pictured have chrome grilles. I scanned in the cover and page 16 so you guys can check it out. (as a side note, they also have an article titled “Seattle on our Minds” on pages 26-29 where they're touring Seattle in a Park Avenue! Ho…

An interesting new test has shown that the interior of the Buick Lucerne ^_^ is quieter than the Lexus ES 330. Here is a direct link to the story, written by Anita Lienert. Since the test was between a Buick and a Lexus, maybe GM still intends Buick to be a rival to Lexus. And for those of you who doubt that portholes should only be used on a Buick (not the '07 Cadillac Escalade  ), here is a link to a story from this past March by Ms. Lienert.

I love Buicks. My parents drove them and still do, and I learned how to drive on a LeSabre and an Estate Wagon. My first car was a Skylark. It rocked. Buicks have impeccable quality, power, and in most cases, pretty cool styling. I'd love to buy one, but they need to make a car for 30-somethings, without abandoning their core market. Here's what GM should do with Buick: 1. Develop a coupe. Lexus has one, so does Mercedes, Infiniti, Acura and Volvo. If you want to be a premium brand, you need a 2 door. For most of Buick's existence, they've offered one, except for the past 8 years or so. Remember Skylark, LeSabre, Riviera,…

"The Day," a newspaper in New London, CT, has an article summarizing the changes in various makes for 2006, including Buick. What initially burned me is their wording "The revision of Buick's sedans is complete . . . " but, hopefully, they merely mean complete as of '06.

Milford, Mich. - Not unlike a finely crafted musical instrument, the 2006 Buick Lucerne - the nameplate's most premium model - was literally "tuned by ear" using advanced acoustic measurement and analytical technologies. Throughout Lucerne's development process, GM engineers regularly used a sophisticated sound recording device nicknamed "Aachen HEAD" (pronounced AH-KIN) to capture sounds within Lucerne's interior while the car is in motion. An Aachen HEAD is a digital recording tool that closely matches the way humans process sound by preserving the binaural attributes of the sound inside or outside of a moving vehicle. The device, which…

Can someone please remind me whether GMX022, a Kappa Buick, is still a potential product? According to Ted's information, GMX020 is the Pontiac Solstice; the Saturn Sky is GMX023, and an Opel GT is GMX024. (Also, I'm curious what GMX021 may have been.) Thank you.

Just saw the November issue of Motor Trend at the bookstore, and, in a column of bits and pieces titled "MT Confidential," it was stated (in pretty much these words) that once and for all, according to their spies, the Buick rear-drive program is dead and there is nothing on the horizon. What does this mean for the future of Buick then? Does future product planning hinge on the sales of the Lucerne? Is the Buick Lambda crossover the last to debut so that, given the worst circumstances, it could be canceled?
