So we were in Fitchburg looking at a house (which was an interesting story in and of itself). On our way out of the city we passed by a Chevrolet dealership. On the lot was an Equinox FCV. I thought that was both very cool and quite peculiar. I was not expecting to see one of these in person, least of all at a dealership in some unimportant medium-sized city.

Do any of you think this vehicle will actually happen and actually sell? There has been much hype in the news. I wonder. I'll bet it's not going to happen as soon as they say if ever. But it sure gives GM good PR. My forecast is that GM will perfect and refine their hybrids and leave it at that.

I was talking with ZL-1 today, well we talk a lot because we are almost on the same time Zone, and the rest of you just lag behind us! Anyway he mentiontioned how he has never been in a GM plant and really would like to see it on the inside. So that got me thinking, how could I share that experience that I have enjoyed over the last 19 years being at almost all of GM's Assembly plants at one time or another. Then it hit me, I can show y'all virtually. :AH-HA_wink: Please follow a new Corvette ZR1 through the entire production process. We start with just the frame and end up in the plant parking lot with a brand new super car. Enjoy the plant tour! Warning this V…

We knew the Chevy Beat was making an appearance in the overly-named Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. The new news is that one of its "triplet" siblings, the Chevy Trax concept, is joining it, as you can see above. The two are chasing/following Bumblebee down Philadelphia's Front Street. Proof of GM's new commitment to building more smaller, fuel-efficient cars, you ask? Eh, well, as you may remember, Trax and the third triplet, Groove, were not slated for production like the Beat, so this is (unfortunately) probably just a movie special. At least one Autoblogger is happy, though (raises hand), because Trax is the one he voted for last year. Transformers Live Action Mo…

The Malibu LTZ looks way beyond Chevrolet's position in the marketplace. Looks so good on the street....it grabs my attention constantly. I'm talking the top level LTZ only, with those nice spidery wheels, heck this car almost has an Audi cache about it. I see more and more new Malibus around town so obviously the public is getting it. If I was in the market for this sort of car, this is the car of choice for me. So impressed. A job well done, GM and Chevrolet. I like especially it's profile...that lower greenhouse makes it so elegant as it glides by.

By Ed Peper GM Fast Blog North America Vice President, Chevrolet A few months ago, we showed you some official “spy shots” of the pre-production version of the new Camaro coupe. To say the least, response to that post was overwhelmingly enthusiastic – something that was extremely gratifying to all of us here at Chevrolet, who have been hard at work testing and retesting the Camaro development models. As a reward for your interest – and your patience – here’s a sneak peak of the convertible version of the Camaro, which is also undergoing a similar evaluation as we ready it for full production later next year. (Preproduction models shown. Actual production models ma…

You know how there was a question of whether or not we'd ever see the Chevy Beat for sale in North America? The answer to that question is looking more like a big fat yes. Of course, a subcompact like the Beat makes perfect sense in a landscape where gas is selling for well over $4 a gallon in many areas. Our quasi-confirmation comes not from El Generalissimo, however, but from the set of Transformers 2, which was recently given its tagline: Revenge of the Fallen. In the photo above, next to Bumblebee, is the Chevy Beat -- partially covered, but the Beat nonetheless. You know what putting it in the movie does, right? It makes people want it. Last summer, it was the Camaro…

I just saw a commercial for the Cobalt touting its "better than Honda Civic" fuel economy. This is misleading. They're taking the EPA rating of the manual Civic at 34 highway mpg and comparing it the the Cobalt XFE's 36 highway mpg while ignoring that the city rating is better for the Civic 26 vs 25 and the mix is the same at 29. Further, the automatic Civic has the same exact EPA ratings as the Cobalt XFE manual, a low-take option in the real world. Does "truth in advertising" mean anything to these ad people? GM, stop taking shortcuts and produce a higher mileage car. OR, compare what you've got to something that has less economy, e.g., the Focus (by one mpg).

Didn't they say they needed to sell 160,000 a year to make a business case for it? Well I can see the Camaro selling well at first, but with gas at $4.30+ I don't exactly seeing it achieving those numbers. Maybe if gas was still at the $3.15 range... What do you guys think? Will gas prices make it go the way of the Gen 4? If Gen 5 fails, then I don't see it ever coming back.

Jamie LaReau Automotive News June 2, 2008 - 1:52 pm ET DETROIT -- General Motors will unveil a Chevrolet compact car at an auto show this fall, with production slated to begin early next year, say sources familiar with GM's product program. The vehicle will be built on the Delta compact car architecture at GM's plant in Lordstown, Ohio. The car will use a new 1.4-liter global engine that GM developed and recently announced in Europe. The turbocharged four-cylinder engine will be used in several GM vehicles worldwide. The Chevrolet compact will not be called the Cobalt, says one source familiar with the plans. GM will produce the current-generation Cobalt thr…

Hey all, I am looking at buying a 2006 Malibu LS 4cyl with 11000 verified KMs on the clock, for $13000.......Good Buy?? The story is that the previous owner leased it from the dealer I am buying it from (who I do trust by the way) and then got a job in Europe taht she didn't think she was going to get. She had to move and the car got returned to the dealer and she paid the penalties (the new employer actually did). Thoughts?

I knew they were hunting this guy! How dumb do you have to be? Whenever you walk into an automaker's factory or engineering facility, there are signs prominently displayed letting everyone know that cameras and camera phones are prohibited. Unfortunately for an electrician at the General Motors Assembly plant in Oshawa, Ontario where the Camaro is due to begin production late this year he ignored the warning. Worse yet, he took some shots inside the body shop where pilot production units were making their way down the line and then showed them to his kids. The youngsters evidently extracted said photos and shared them with the world. The electrician with 28 years of s…

GM considers selling Chevrolets in South Korea May 16, 2008 10:30 AM ET Link to Source SEOUL, South Korea (AP) - General Motors Corp. is considering launching its Chevrolet brand in South Korea to capture a larger share of the country's growing market for imported cars, a company executive said Friday. The U.S. automaker will make a decision on the move after completing a study by the end of this year, said James H. Raymond, executive director of GM's Asia-Pacific vehicle sales, service and marketing division. GM Korea currently sells Cadillac sedans at 41 million to 120 million Korea won ($39,000-115,000) each and Saab sedans at 37 million to 59 million won. So…

Back when gasoline was still $2.00 a gallon, GM threw all their weight behind the GMT-900s to get the vehicles out early. By all accounts, they did a great job and the trucks are at the top of their class. Now today, gas is fast approaching $4.00 a gallon. GM must pull this same rabbit out their hat again! All of GM's weight needs to be behind the Delta II project. Back burner the next 'Vette, backburner any SUVs that won't be released with a 2-mode at launch, backburner any more Cadillacs. Delta II needs to be here yesterday. It must: Be E85 capable Have both BAS-II and 2-mode hybrid options Have interiors that make people say "ZOMG!! This is a GM?" It mu…

The GMnext blog has a post up that talks about the potential viability of a low-displacement turbocharged motor -- the direct-injected 2.0L Ecotec turbo, specifically -- in upcoming GM cars, including the Camaro. Let's talk about this a little. The breathed-upon Ecotec delivers 260 horses and 260 lb-ft of torque, and if you've driven, say, the Sky or Solstice equipped with it, you know just how ballsy it really is. It's more powerful (but less torquey) than either V8 offered in the '87 IROC-Z that I thought was so cool back during high school. The turbo four might well be a nice solution in a future iteration of the Camaro, but is the fuel economy argument for it as rock …

Link to Article Chevy Volt: Traveling Public Roads and Hitting Its Mark May 14, 2008 By Michelle Krebs WARREN, Michigan -- General Motors inched closer to making the Chevrolet Volt a reality in November 2010 as the vehicle's innovative gas-electric powertrain is being test-driven for the first time on public roads and is hitting its target of 40 miles on pure electric power. "Today is a big day," GM Vice Chairman Bob Lutz told Edmunds' AutoObserver in an exclusive interview Tuesday. "Today is the first day it is running on the street on battery power." Lutz said the Volt's powertrain, comprised of an advanced lithium-ion battery and a small gasoline engine, wa…

I got the chance to drive a HHR SS last weekend and I must say even with FWD it was very impressive. First off the Turbo Enginer that has 260 HP with only 2 liters has little turbo lag and is a blast to drive. The no lift shift works as advertised and keep the boot up. The engine is smooth and quiet. The torque steer is present but nowhere like you would expect and is well controled. It did not want to dive to the ditch but it sill has a little wonder due to the front tires fighting for control as the traction control does not kick in too soon. Brakes were very good and these were not even the Brembo option. The interior looks good color wise but is still a li…

DETROIT — We may not be at "peak oil" quite yet, but anyone that's been to a gas pump in the past few months could build a strong case to the contrary. Fuel prices have already hit $4 in sunny Southern California; here in Michigan, gas can run north of $3.50 a gallon. And those high prices are affecting every segment of the automotive landscape, from SUVs to luxury cars. But when it comes to moving five passengers in comfort, you don't necessarily have to jump into a subcompact to get respectable fuel economy. We decided to find out if Chevrolet's four-cylinder Malibu, combined with the new six-speed automatic, has the eco chops to take on much smaller sedans. Chevy has…

Wouldnt this be a good time to think about bringing back the Metro to production? this car got 58 mpg in 1992!! I know we have the Aveo but its no better than a Cobalt in mileage. id say lets bring over the 3 door aveo and put a 1.0L 3cyl in the engine bay and bam we have ourselves a 50 MPG car.. this car didnt sell really well in 1992 because gas was $1.25 a gallon, it WOULD sell with gas near $4.00 a gallon.

From GM Media: DETROIT – It’s been approximately six months since Chevrolet’s redesigned Malibu was launched. In that time, it has received critical acclaim – including being named 2008 North American Car of the Year – and numerous recommendations by consumer groups. More importantly, the new Malibu is resonating with customers. In only the first quarter of 2008, market share is up 1.3 points over the same period in ’07. Much of that growth is due to retail sales, which increased 110 percent during the first three months of the year, with three large, import-heavy states showing dramatic growth: * Florida sales are up 91 percent * New York sales are up 13…

Jamie LaReau Automotive News April 22, 2008 - 4:37 pm ET DETROIT -- Chevrolet will offer the new 2008 Malibu LTZ variant with a four-cylinder engine and a six-speed automatic transmission. The new powertrain will improve fuel economy and cost $1,200 less than the V-6 LTZ. General Motors plans to ship the new version of the cars to dealers starting Thursday, April 24. The new six-speed transmission will boost fuel economy by 2 mpg in highway driving, Chevy Vice President Ed Peper said at a media briefing here today. That brings the LTZ's fuel economy to 22 mpg city/32 highway. " With this new model, the Malibu lineup offers an unmatched range of powertrai…

Linkity
The Cobalt Gets Its 15 Minutes[/size] By Erin Riches, Senior Editor Email Date posted: 03-24-2008 We come to our first serious corner on Glendora Mountain Road, and the 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt SS Coupe delivers the unexpected. It turns into a tight left-hander with the haste and hunger of an import sport compact. Perhaps most surprising of all, it gives the impression of being happy to do it. Instead of savoring the moment, we get back on the throttle. We hear the euphoric sigh of the turbocharger, followed by a throbbing exhaust note out the back. The sounds are di…

The hits just keep on coming for fans of the Chevy Camaro. Just yesterday, we quoted Bob Lutz as suggesting that the Camaro could get a four-cylinder engine option. Now we hear that Mark LaNeve, VP of sales and marketing for GM North America, says that, "We won't position it as a muscle car," speaking again of the 2010 Camaro. Sure, you could spend hours debating the terms "muscle car" and "pony car", but we're pretty sure that very few ever thought of the Camaro as a fuel-efficient option. But, that's exactly how GM will position it. "The mainstream positioning will be fuel economy, design and a V-6," says LaNeve. The truth seems to be that GM just cannot afford to sel…

Does anyone have Malibu production numbers? I know Autonews has them, but I'm no longer a subscriber. I'd like to know because my dealer can't seem to keep more than 2 in stock at a time. They delivered 3 today and have another one on Friday, and therefore only have two left on the lot. I've never seen more than 3 on the lot at once, and every time I see that they get an LTZ in, I go the next day to see it and it's sold... I say: 1) Convert Fairfax only to Malibu for a while. My Saturn dealer has 20 Auras. That should last them at least a few months. 2) Convert Orion to 70% Malibu production. The G6 doesn't sell very well anyways, and it does so with huge incentive…

With Cafe changes GM looks to be crambling the engine line up since last year and here is what Luts said. By RICHARD TRUETT, AUTOMOTIVE NEWS NEW YORK -- General Motors is considering a four-cylinder engine for the new Chevrolet Camaro as a response to rising fuel prices. Speaking on the sidelines of the New York auto show, GM Vice Chairman Bob Lutz said the drivetrain under consideration for the Camaro is the same high-performance one used in the Pontiac Solstice and Saturn Sky roadsters. It’s a 2.0-liter turbocharged, direct-injected four-cylinder rated at 260 hp. Lutz said that if fuel prices continue to climb, the four-cylinder Camaro could see production. GM …

In a case of what appears to be semantics, Chevy has revealed that the Camaro will now be a 2010 model, rather than a 2009 model. The semantic part is that the car will go on sale in the spring of 2009, yet still be called a 2010 Camaro. The reason the car won't go on sale earlier in 2009 is because Chevy says "it would have meant a short model run before changeover to "10 production". So we aren't sure how the car could go on sale earlier in 2009 unless Chevy began selling it in the rather un-Camaro-like season of winter. We also aren't sure why it matters whether they call it a 2009 or a 2010 -- people just want to take deliveries of their Camaros already. And we aren…

I just noticed something weird about the Camaro. Most cars, and even the concept, have their calipers behind the front rotor and ahead of the rear rotor. The production car looks to have its calipers behind both rotors. Here are some pics to compare: Production: http://images.leftlanenews.com/content/mar...08/camaro-9.jpg Concept: http://img2.netcarshow.com/Chevrolet-Camar...allpaper_09.jpg Is it weird that it's setup like that? The G8's is the same way, but the CTS's and Corvette's are setup like the Camaro concept.

Linkity The fourth TE to surface after 9-4 and Provoq. 2010 Chevrolet Equinox - Spied "Heeeeere, boy!" Chevy's version of GM's new crossover family jumps the fence. BY STEVE SILER, PHOTOGRAPHY BY STEVE SYZDEK FOR BRENDA PRIDDY AND COMPANY, CORIE AMSDEN, WADE RATZLAFF, AND AARON KILEY March 2008 A few months ago, we were there when the 2010 Cadillac BRX—an upcoming version of GM's TE family of crossovers that also includes the recently released Saturn Vue and the upcoming Saab 9-4X—was let out of the house for track testing. Now another of the TE platform-mates is not only out of the h…

I hope its true. I'm not exactly diggin the spy photos so far. But here's to wishful thinking! There are also some new* spy photos for anyone who may be interested. -Mike http://www.autoblog.com/2008/03/10/video-e...r-than-concept/ During an interview at the recent Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance, GM VP of Global Design Ed Welburn claims the the production 2009 Chevy Camaro will feature an interior that's even better than the one featured in the Camaro concept. The interviewer gets Welburn talking about the interior by mentioning the gamut of spy shots taken that show the interior of a Camaro mule. Welburn claims those interiors are just thrown together with …

Looks like the 4-cyl/6-speed LTZ is finally available, and there's some wheel changes. The new: (PDZ) 4-Cylinder Spring Package, includes (LE5) ECOTEC 2.4L engine, (MH8) 6-speed automatic transmission, Electric Power Steering (EPS) assist, chrome exhaust tip, (PA2) 17" (43.2 cm) Chrome-Tech bright aluminum wheels and (QAD) P225/50R17 touring, blackwall tires. http://eogld.ecomm.gm.com/NASApp/domestic/...236&type=0# So, oddly, looks like the LTZ-4 will get it's own 17" (smaller) Chrome-Tech wheels, but otherwise be the same. Also, for 1LT's that have had the chrome face covers, seems like there's now some choice (maybe), as Chrome-Tech wheels are listed separa…

Link to the story is HERE All in all a good review. The complaints made were to be expected since they mostly revolved around the quality of the interior which could certainly use some improvement. Let's hope GM brings the interior of this vehicle up to par as they have with *most* of their recent MCE's and redesigns.

Hey guys I was checking my email this morning before heading up to work and I ran across this article on Yahoo about a guy in Wisconsin with a 1991 Chevy pick up that, as of Friday rolled over 1,000,000 miles. All I have to say about it is.....Chevy, the most dependable, longest lasting trucks on the road... Like A Rock!

Anyone else find it odd that the Volt was missing from the Chicago Auto Show? They had an entire section in the Chevy display promoting green vehicles, but leave out their trump card?! They also left the hy-wire at home, which I still think is the ultimate future of cars.

FYI: I do not in any way say this is accurate info as I have not seen it anywhere else. This is just for your information and was publised in the April Popular Hot Rodding page 94. So please no wagering! :AH-HA_wink: PHR Factoid: Not So Fast Camaro Breath If you've been saving your cash for a new V8 Camaro you may have to settle for a V6. Due to tighter Fuel Economy Standards and Planned allotment of V-8s in truck , it looks like Chevy will have to limit Camaro V-8 Production in the first year to just 7,500 units. {[Translation : big dealer mark-ups and long waits.] On the good side, Chevy has killed the lo-po V-6 version, making the $25,000 300 HP V-6 the base…

Linkity Camaro Goes Hybrid, As GM Axes Rear-Drive Impala, LaCrosse? General Motors has been forced to rework the investment case for the Chevrolet Camaro in the wake of new fuel-economy rules adopted this past December. The Camaro will still be built, but higher-end V-8 versions likely will be priced higher than expected. As for other planned GM rear-drivers–a new Chevrolet Impala, Buick LaCrosse and the replacement for the Pontiac G8 due this spring–all have been dropped along with a new V-8 engine GM was contemplating building. "You can't kill something that was never approved," said one GM official, who asked for anonymity but w…

Link to AutoBlog Talk about finding a good used car. Frank Orsenick bought his '91 Silverado in 1996. At the time, it had 41,000 miles on the clock. After 11 years of service (and a lot of driving), the old pickup is about to reach a milestone. Frank had the oil changed last week, just as he has every 3,000 miles since acquiring the Chevy, and it's sure to be the last one it receives as an everyday-use vehicle. You see, it's just 1,200 miles away from spinning past the 1,000,000-mark on the odometer. When it hits the big number, Frank is going to put his faithful ride into retirement. As for how he got this far, Orsenik credits regular maintenance and "a little luck." …

Link to AutoChannel WASHINGTON, Jan 31, 2008; John Crawley writing for Reuters reported that General Motors Corp plans a strong production run for its plug-in Chevy Volt, according to a senior executive on Thursday who also urged Congress to approve tax incentives to help spark demand. Jon Lauckner, GM vice president for global program management, said the automaker is mindful of the current high costs of battery development but expects the per-vehicle price to drop as the technology improves. "As volume scales up, you will move down this curve to see better economics going forward. You can't get hung up on the economics of the first unit or the tenth unit," Lauckner…
