Let's say you're heading out to the dealership today to buy a new vehicle. This is not a "money is no object" vehicle, but something you can realistically afford to pay for. You've saved up for your downpayment. What vehicle, right now today, makes you want to sign the dotted line?

So Thursday I came home from class...uneventful. A few hours later i needed to go run some errands...so I went to my car and got ready to leave. Turned the key and...nothing. The lights flickered and that was it. A "wtf" had occurred. So I went and got the Shadow to jump it. Started right up, but as soon as I took the jumpers off the car stalled. I was like "well, $h!" Now, the Prizm is still out of action,so the only car left is the Shadow. It's too late in the day to take it to the mechanic so the Intrepid had to sit in front of the house, dead. All I can say is that I'm lucky it decided to quit in front of the house and not say, at school. Friday I t…

Think about what you most want in a car, and then list what you'd just as soon not have. Don't let yourself be restricted by any safety or environmental, or crash regulations. What items would you be just as happy not having? I'll list mine later. :AH-HA_wink:

Downing of Flight MH17, Who is REALLY to BLAME? Editorial G. David Felt Staff Writer Alternative Energy www.CheersandGears.com The downing of Malaysia flight MH17, delays in access to the crash site, and shipment home of the deceased has many thinking about what could have been done to avoid it this tragedy. Another question to ask is what are the rebels trying to hide? The delay in allowing inspectors to the crash site along with the delay in collecting the bodies all while the rebels based on various news sources with cell phone pictures and cell phone videos showing rebels removing evidence makes this an even bigger question. Hey Guys, I am new to this forum and throught I would try to contribute. If anyone is looking for reapir manuals, owner manuals or service manuals for virtually any type of car, there is a FREE ebook at the address below. I asked him could I download and share it, but he said he prefers to have people come to the website. The site itself isn't the best, Sometimes there are annoying ads and surveys. The ebook is only a couple of pages, but it gives a list of places online where you can find almost any service and repair manuals, even for very old models and trucks. I would highly recommend to download it and keep it on your computer. Website - http://ebook-files.info…

Is BEAUTIFUL! Standing in the God awful lines for the shuttle back to my house was terrible but I made many, many new friends. Furthermore...the people asking "Wow...is THAT an Escalade?" and the "That Chevy is nice hunnie what is it?" that the DPD were cruising the streets in was pretty remarkable. The city looked great and the Sprint Stage was THE happening place to be. Such a great time down in Detroit and the Big 2 and a half really did A LOT to impress.

Ok, who here gets annoyed by drama queens? Tonight, I went to check my e-mail and found a message from a girl who I hung out with once in late November. She and a couple of my freinds invited me to hang out with them New Years Eve at Lake Okoboji in Northern IA, but my family had a last minute change of plans and didn't leave Chicago until late, so I didn't get home until 10 PM New Year's Eve. Since I wouldn't have been able to make the 4 hour drive up there, I went and hung out with some friends down in Omaha (hour away). So, tonight I get this hate filled email from her saying how "we're fighting" like we've been in a relationship for years or something. I've hung…

I'm hoping people may have just needed a break from these or have been busy, so I'm putting up a new one today to stir up some action. This one is going to have a few more rules, though. Really get some of you guys thinking. Rules- 1- Production models only 2- These are your only vehicles 3- Limit of 5 choices 4- You must pick AT LEAST 2 new vehicles with an MSRP of $55,000 or less, not counting MFR incentives. 5- Any market and era is allowed for used cars 6- Used picks must have reasonable availability and be in decent shape for the price. 7- Only one of your used car picks can be LESS THAN 3 years old. 8- One of your u…

Okay, you probably all knew this one was coming. Yep, we're doing used cars this time. The eternal debate of new vs used will continue to rage, but there's no denying there are bombshell deals on the used market. Cars today depreciate faster than ever, and it puts awesome cars in tangible reach for a lot of enthusiasts. Whether you want a once 6 figure mega lux sedan, or an overlooked performance car that is a hidden gem, they are out there. Rules are simple- 1) USED cars only, must be 2017 MY or older. 2) Maximum of five choices. 3) These are your only vehicles. 4) Choices must be realistic. No crazy low priced scam listings, salvage title c…

Okay, the last one didn't go over well. Maybe people didn't feel like they had enough to pick from. This one will rectify that. We will use new intro 2018 models this go-round, of which there are plenty! Rules- 1) New cars only, must be CONFIRMED for 2018 MY. No 2019's, no 2017's, no upcoming models that aren't official yet. 2) Choices must be either ALL NEW or SIGNIFICANTLY updated. 3) Maximum of 5 choices. 4) These are your only vehicles. That's it!!

Working on response to the dream car garage that frisky put up, putting up one of my own. In this challenge....it is the Climate controlled trailer, Climate controlled trailer edition-10 cars worth! First list, cars that you would likely find in the shady lanes mobile home park, which is a clean and decent but not fancy mobile home park outside of Kingsport Tennessee. Or cars you would find on a third rate used car lot. Rules; #1. No muscle cars, or Camaros or mustangs of any variation. This includes cars like the 80's Monte Caro SS and clones of those cars-you can't take a mid 80's Buick and build a Grand National clone. No corvettes either. …

In this dream car garage, the rules are very simple. You will bring 5 cars and 5 local restaurants you will drive your choice of car to for an interesting meal. For the restaurants, only rule is no national chains-family owned or small local chain only. Restaurant should be local to where you live...say within 50 miles or so of your home. For the cars, any era any market is allowed, any price-just needs to fit the bill below. Car #1-American Muscle car, American traditional restaurant of some sort. Car #2, Italian car, Italian food-for those who do not like Imports, you may substitute an American car. Car #3. Vintage 4 Door sedan of some sor…

In this edition you will pick 5 cars born without a VIN. Can be anything from a Sand rail powered by an air cooled VW motor to a top fuel dragster. Most kit cars would qualify, as would most brass era cars from the early days of motoring. You could pick something interesting like a vintage group B rally car, or a modern NASCAR stock car. Home built specials, engineering prototypes, factory concept cars, the sky is the limit. MSO from kit car maker is not considered a VIN in this thread. Eyes without a face.....cars without a VIN....what 5 cars will you pick? Factory 5 type 65 coupe, car #1. http://www.factoryfive.com/kits/type-65-c…

On the other hand...motorcycles, half tracks, military vehicles, mountain bikes, unicycles with knobby tires, vehicles that operate via rail trough the desert, radio controlled model cars and anything else you might choose is fair game. Just maximum of five choices of things that play well in the mud that you would like to own. No limit on pr…

So, we have been having some good discussions here, some a little bit heated, some that bring a lot of light to the subject. to lighten thing sup a bit we bring you Dream car garage, Snap On truck edition. My old boss from several years ago used to love to scuba dive. He found an entirely intact Snap on truck full of tools off of a bridge on a fairly deep river that was a tributary to lake Michigan. Cold water kept the tools in decent shape, he was able to actually turn several of them back in to Snap On for exchange. Guy from Snap On was like "wow, this is some unique stuff, tools we have not sold since the 1950's." This is your chance to let the little k…

Was just thinking on my way to work of some vehicles I like that would make others go "WTF, why?????" Cars that may threaten your card carrying status as a car guy, but you like them anyways. Rules are few. 1. Up to 5 choices 2. production cars only 3. State your case for that vehicle like it was on trial for murder and you are it's only defense. 4. Have fun! And go!

So Frisky did displacement and horsepower threads. As much as it is fun to put a dream car garage worth millions, few if any of the members here can afford any of these cars. So lets do a series of budget restricted garages that most of us could actually afford. Rules: 1. Production cars only. 2. These are you only vehicles. 3. Maximum of 5 choices. 4. Any era and market is allowed. 5. At least ONE NEW car/truck. 6. Maximum price is $20k. (MSRP for the new one, for the used one should be a reasonable used price with reasonable mileage and condition - no cars without engine, or Ferrari with 300k miles for $5K )

Been a while since we did one of these. A lot of great vehicles had their last hurrah for the 2018 Model Year. From mainstream offerings, to exotics, many models had their demise. This thread will be dedicated to those. You can choose either cars that were discontinued entirely, had specific trim levels axed, or lost body styles. Rules- 1) Must be 2018 MY 2) Choices must be offered in your market 3) Production vehicles only 4) Choices must have been discontinued, replaced with new model, had a body style dropped, etc 5) Maximum of 5 choices 6) These are your only vehicles Have fun!

Newest dream car garage- In this dream car garage, you are allowed 5 cars, the catch being-you have to give all five away to other posters here. The other catch is that I want you to move as far away from "Traditional" choices as possible. We would all like a Raptor, Miata, SS, C7 Corvette Z06, SRT Challenger and the like...your challenge is to find something "different" and give it to Another member here. This is also a "Double Challenge" if you accept it, in that you can give a pair of cars to said individual...but if you give a "Pair" one has to be brand new 2017-2018 and one has to be at least ten years old or so... So, to expand on the first part of this, we are doing something a little different. In Part 1, you had a total to spend using the New Car Average Transaction Price multiplied to cover 5 vehicles. This round, you will be limited to a per car amount of $36,495. There is no limit to how cheap your selections can be, but they can't be any more than the average price. So let's use his time of rule as a timeline to make our choices from. Rules- 1) Production cars only. 2) Maximum of 5 choices. 3) Vehicles MUST have been sold in YOUR market. 4) These are your only vehicles. 5) Choices MUST be from 2009-2016 MY range. Could be any form of automobile just as long as it's made in America(or the company is). Doesn't have to be a car, truck, or suv. Could be a motorcycle, 4 wheeler, plane, I don't care as long as it is American! Whatcha got?

Beautiful oddity, a dream I woke up from last night. First scene, I am a passenger in a random vehicle, driving through an urban warehouse district. I look up, and there is an airliner that appears to be taking off from a nearby airport, coming in our direction. It climbs upward but its wings are on backwards, pointing forward. I gasp in wonder for a fleeting moment before it goes out of sight, obscured by the warehouses. It's a beautiful sunny day. Next scene, I am still with the same person, but I never see who it is, I just feel their presence. We are heading in the opposite direction from before because of the position of the sun. Again, it is a clear, sun…

I had a really odd (to me at least) dream a couple of nights ago. I met BV! I have no idea where it came from because usually my dreams have something that relates to something that I know of or have experienced recently or in the past, and here I am, hanging out and getting along with someone that I have never even me before. Anyway, just thought I'd share this bizarre occurence with the rest of you (rest being as in not myself only). Anyone else have some totally random dream that one doesn't know where it came from?

I will be starting my new bartending job at McFadden’s in NYC this coming Thursday evening. It's the end of the summer party so it should be especially crazy. The place has good food, good booze and great music so if you're a C&G person around the city this Thursday stop by at or after 10 PM. Say "I'm here because of Dan" at the door and I'll make sure to give extra buybacks on top of the already great drink specials for anyone here. McFadden’s is convenient to Grand Cen…

Back when I was a kid, I thought it was cool and liked it. But since now I drive on my own, it's not that great of an idea actually if you think about it. When you're waiting in line, you're using your own gas when you keep your engine idle. And at busy hours, it can take long. Not to mention the greenhouse gas that you emit into the environment while you idle (Unless, of course, you're driving an EV1). With gas prices these days, I can imagine how much money I waste from idling in a drive-thru line. Also, another problem I figured is, if they gave you the wrong stuff or something's missing in your bag, you would have to run back and ask them. Double the worse, if you…

WEYMOUTH, Mass. -- An "itsy bitsy spider" caused a big crash in Weymouth. Amber Buckner, 26, was at the corner of Princeton and Bridge streets when she was distracted by a spider inside her car. She rear-ended the car in front of her, which went straight up onto two wheels and collapsed on top of her car. Buckner, her passenger and Danielle Evju, the driver of the car she struck, were all taken to the hospital with minor injuries. "She's like 'Oh my God, is everybody all right? I was just paying attention to the spider, the spider that was on my windshield.' And that's all that she was paying attention to," Evju said. Buckner is being charged with following too …

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. -- The victim has probably forgiven the woman who ran him down in a Northampton crosswalk. The police haven't. Police say a Pittsfield woman has been cited for running down Lord Jesus Christ as he crossed the street in Northampton. Officers responding to Tuesday's incident checked the 50-year-old Belchertown man's ID and discovered that, indeed, Lord Jesus Christ is his legal name. He was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor facial injuries. Police say 20-year-old Brittany Cantarella was cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk. Driver goes 3 miles with lodged body A motorist hits a pedestrian on 34th Street, then drives to the Sunshine Skyway with the victim stuck in the windshield. The St Petersburg Times By CRAIG PITTMAN, Staff Writer Published October 20, 2005 St. Petersburg Times ST. PETERSBURG - A 93-year-old motorist struck and killed a pedestrian Wednesday evening, then drove about 3 miles with the body lodged in the windshield until he was stopped at a Sunshine Skyway tollbooth. The driver told officers he thought the body had fallen from the sky, said St. Petersburg police Officer Mike Jockers. "He had no idea he had been involved in an accident," Jockers said. "He d…

Driver swerves to avoid moose, hits bear instead Motorist escapes uninjured but animal is wounded OSLO, Norway — A Norwegian driver who swerved his car on a rural road to avoid running into a moose hit a bear instead, authorities said on Thursday. The driver spotted the moose on a country road near Hanestad, 225 kilometers (140 miles) north of Oslo, around midnight on Wednesday, and tried to go around the animal, not realizing that a bear was also nearby. "The driver had lost a bit of speed as he tried to avoid the moose before hitting the bear," said Svein Erik Bjorke of the local wildlife authority, who was out in the forest searching for the wounded animal. "We ar…

Check out the wild sound effects. Looks like somebody had too much fun with a keyboard. This reminds me of the video we watched in driver's ed about the dangers of semi trucks....really boring, drawn out, and old (the kids in the movie had mullets if that says anything). I think 3/4 of the driver's ed class slept through that one.

DETROIT - Cars were too small, sport utility vehicles too inefficient and she couldn't see herself driving a minivan. So Dr. Melissa Sundermann ended up with a type of vehicle that most automakers are banking on for sales growth: a crossover. Built on car underpinnings but having many attributes of SUVs, crossover utility vehicles have seen explosive growth since Toyota Motor Corp. started the category with the RAV4 back in 1995. In 1996, the RAV4's first full year on sale, Toyota told 56,709 of the small crossovers when it had the market to itself, according to data collected by Ward's Automotive Group. But sales rose quickly as other automakers saw the growth potenti…

Yesterday I was going down the street to the strip mall to get a pizza for dinner, I saw this guy in a two door Tahoe. He was backing out of his spot at almost full throttle, and a lady in a Lumina was coming along and the Tahoe almost hit it. Clearly, the Lumina had the right of way, as he wasn't even half out of his spot, but I saw the moron in the Tahoe roll down the windows and start to cursing the woman. Rednecks... don't people these days have driving manners...

Has anyone noticed the proliferation of round, red taillights on vehicles these days? No matter the outward shape of the lens, the lit part is increasingly the same on so many vehicles nowadays. Everything from a Hyundai Elantra to a Chrysler 300 has these same, round illuminations when seen at night. BORING!

Boogie Boarding :: Nags Head, North Carolina "Going down da shore" is Philadelphia-ese for vacationing at the beach. It usually means heading to Cape May, Wildwood, Sea Isle City, or Avalon, New Jersey--great beaches all, with amusement parks and boardwalks and plenty of places for family entertainment. And many thousands of people do seek out these relaxation spots every weekend between Memorial Day and Labor Day. But if you're "going down da shore" early in the season, when ocean temperatures in New Jersey are typically in the 60s, you need to head to more southern locations. North Carolina's Outer Banks lures many of these early vacationers. Read more at: http://aut…

A friend came over yesterday and threw me the keys to his new 2007 Camry XE Sport...Leather, Satelite radio, sunroof, alloys. What the hell, I hate them, but let me see what all the fuss is about! So I took it for a short drive. Here are my findings: 1: Quiet ride, firm suspension and controls. Leather on the steering wheel felt cheap and actually was scratchy on my hands. Hate the silver dash treatment - until you turn on the headlights...then the blue/green ambient lighting on the stereo and other control surfaces is really kinda cool. 2: What is all of the talk about Toyota switch feel all about? Am I missing something? The turnsignal stalk operated with a "…

My uncle in Grand Rapids is one of the first 2 in that side of the state to get one. He came down to our place today with his black Volt. He's had it for 3 weeks. Got to take it for a spin. Nice driving car. When first powered up and pulling out of the driveway it was on battery until getting on the road and starting to accelerate (keep in mind I'm over 2 hours away from his place so the battery was already depleted). Only when I started slowing down for the stop sign did I hear the motor running. When did accelerate hard for a stretch and you could then hear the motor rev up higher due to the harder acceleration. Regardless the motor was very quit in every condition. You…

Yesterday when I was on my way to Hy-Vee to get groceries, I noticed a car in front of me that had Louisiana plates. At first I assumed that the girl in this car had been going here for a while. Then I remembered an article in the newspaper the other day about a girl from New Orleans who transferred here after everything down there was destroyed. In the newspaper they talked about how she stuffed as much as she could into her Toyota Echo in half an hour and left. The only reason that stuck in my head is because an Echo is tiny and you wouldn't be able to fit much in there. Anyway, the car in front of me was none other than a green Toyota Echo. I got into the rig…

Yeah, super exciting topic, right? We all went out to brunch last Sunday and she wanted me to drive so I didn't want to pass up the chance (I had not driven it yet). It's an 04 Vue, with about 20k miles on it, that she purchased back in 06 upon our suggestion (yes, she only drives about 2 miles to work each day). I have to say I didn't think it drove that well. It felt slow, the CVT tranny was slightly annoying and anemic and the brakes felt really bad. I actually liked my 98 Jimmy better - which I wasn't expecting at all. I haven't driven a new 2008 or 09 Vue yet, but I hope for GM's sake that it drives better than her 2004. It's interesting, because the old …

so wisely i chose to suspend my direct tv last week. of course, until the other day, i didn't have any converter boxes either. well, i have one of them hooked up now. should be interesting to see if i am a go. does one need a whole new antennae also? i have the plasma, which has the digital tuner. I think i just need an antennae for that. i have 4 other TV's, of which 2 of them for now I will have converters for. I have an antennae hooked up to the first one which I believe is an HD antennae, but we'll see. Big question, is the converter box still worthless without a proper antennae? That's what i don't get. It's coming! Are you CONVERTED?

So I finally got a cell phone. This now makes me no longer practically unreachable. I can't count the numerous times where not having one made hanging out with friends or such that much harder, with most of my friends living a good 20 miles away. And with my home phone line always being busy and me not being home all that much in the first place, it was difficult. Not any more. I may not get any service here at home, but a quick walk/drive up to the top of the hill and I suddenly have full bars, haha. I guess it'll be good exercise.

August and Frederik Duesenberg, 1920s (article by the Des Moines Register) Two of the world's finest car builders got their start in Iowa. Cars adorned with the Duesenberg name were known for speed, style and luxury. Frederick Duesenberg was born in Germany in 1876, and August Duesenberg was born there in 1878. They arrived in the United States in 1885. Their widowed mother emigrated with them and four of their siblings. An older brother had already arrived and welcomed his family to a farm at Rockford. By the late 1890s, the brothers were skilled mechanics, operating bicycle-and-motorcycle shops, Fred in Rockford and "Augie" in Garner. They moved to Des Moines about…

cbc ADRIAN, Mich. - A Michigan man was charged with drunken driving after drinking two bottles of wine, cutting through a snowstorm on his lawn mower and riding down the centre of the street to reach a liquor store, authorities said. Police found Frank Kozumplik, 49, homeward bound on a John Deere tractor Saturday night, toting four bottles of wine in a paper bag, officials said. He told officers his wife had taken their car to work and the mower was the only way he could reach the store, three kilometres from home. His blood alcohol level was 2½ times Michigan's legal driving limit of 0.08 per cent, police told WLEN-FM. They arrested him and confiscated the mower…

If there was a king of video game role models, it was Duke.

It's pretty lame but it lifted my spirits, if only for a sec. when I got it in my email. ------------ A cabbie picks up a nun. She gets into the cab, and notices that the very handsome cab driver won't stop staring at her. She asks him why he is staring. He replies: "I have a question to ask you, but I don't want to offend you." She answers, "My son, you cannot offend me. When you're as old as I am nd have been a nun as long as I have, you get a chance to see and hear just about everything. I'm sure that there's nothing you could say or ask that I would find offensive." "Well, I've always had a fantasy to have …

I prolly carry too much baggage from the high school years. For EX, I recently looked at the FB profile of a guy I had a cross-room brawl with in high school, and I still feel dislike toward him, even tho the 'statute of limitations' has long ago run out on that. OTOH, as I randomly look up people I used to know from HS, I feel better & better about my current state of self-preservation. Many of the 'beautiful people' have fallen so hard. Life can be a harsh mistress, so the saying goes. Is it wrong to take a teaspoon of glee from that??
