This time, it was the sebring. We were driving to our neighbors family's house and everything was fine. We got to their street an in order for my mom to park in front of the house, she had to make a u turn. So she made the turn and all of a sudden, it felt like we had hit the curb, went onto it and then drove back onto the street. In actuality we hit a pile of broken cement that was left by the town in the street about 2.5 feet high. There is damage on the sheet metal below the front passenger door and the bottom corner of the bumper is scraped and a little deformed. PICS TO COME

Well, after tooling about for a little over a year in the Buick, I see my GMAC coupons are telling me that I have 8 payments left..... So, considering that I have seen some rumblings about lease pull aheads, and assuming they will still be in effect in the next few months.... What ever shall I purchase this time?? My wish list before looking at the $$ deals, is a Camaro or pick up a G8 before they are gone. I wish the orange was still available on the G8. So, orange Camaro, with orange interior trim and black SS stripes, aqua blue Camaro with white SS stripes, stryker blue G8 or either car in the Sport Red tricoat. Thoughts? Other suggestions?

Earlier this week, I received an invitation of sorts to "check out" GMAC Insurance. Basically, they want to give me a quote. Since I've been "under the weather", I haven't taken the time or energy to call, but my guess is they won't insure my cars, given their age. I may be wrong...but, that's my hunch. Anyway, just curious to know if anyone else has received a similar mailing &/or has called &/or has insurance through GMAC.... Well, I guess I do now. With the Cobalt now done, I can enjoy being payment free....or maybe not. As I found out, there is going to be some kids in the family (adopted and born) on the wife's side. Since we all tend to help each other out (what family doesn't), this is calling for a bigger something. Her Cavalier is simply not going to cut it. (Though it' still a keeper) But I really don't want payments, but want a family hauler. I'd love a SUV (Trailblazer, Tahoe), but really need a (mini)van so that we can really be ready. (those with large families can understand) So, an order van that I can put a few bucks in may be the choice. The Current two choices: Astro/Safari …

My mom is way over due for a newish car. She loves her current car (a 1994 Isuzu Rodeo) to death, but the thing is starting to fall apart. To the point where it would make more finantial sense to buy a newer car. So we went dealer hopping today. She really didn't say she liked anything in particular. Just walked around and was like "hmm" every so once an a while. She isn't picky about brands (mostly because she is clueless when it comes to cars), although my dad is another story. He has a strong distaste for Korean cars, and American cars. I try to tell him that they we're DiamlerChryslers that we owned (1993 Voyager and 2001 Dakota) but he doesn't listen. Wh…

In all the complaining about GM have cheap interiors, I decided to check out hondas. We all wonder why they never complain about the civics digital speedo, when GM was blasted for using digital dashes. But did you know their stock stereo is 2 different colors and one of the colors doesn't even match the interior at any point? Compare that too a black tie stereo in the Cobalt. On the other hand, atleast you can replace the stereo in the civic unlike the accord.

I've been thinking (yeah, yeah-I know :AH-HA_wink: ) Anyways, I've been thinking about what I could replace the wagon with. I've seen quite a few 98-01 Blazers around here for sale, with most running between 3-6 grand, and many with 4x4 power... A cheap Suv beater would be nice, so I could take it camping, haul stuff (and dogs) and take bunches of people with me... Good stuff: Cheap, the 4.3 (most I've seen are around 100k) which should last a while...good for winter here... Bad: Lots of little issues... I saw a 01/02 trailbalzer (fancy blazer) with 101k for 4600...didn't sound too bad.... THoughts? I know BV wants to get in on this one... :AH-HA_wink: …

What is so cool about riding around in your base model with no wheel covers? I am still seeing a lot of cars riding on black steelies. What is the purpose of it? Why is it cool? They're keeping those black steelies clean as a whistle, too. I was thinking maybe it is a drag racing thing, where the racing tires are mounted on steelies, so maybe it's supposed to make that Cavalier/Focus/Jetta/Cobalt/ION/xB etc look like a RACE CAR. Can someone enlighten me? And when are the OEMs going to jump on this? Make those plastic wheel covers an option, since so many come off immediately anyway.

If you live in a state that a.) has been awash in rainstorms for days on end and b.) borders the Mississippi or Ohio Rivers, there is a great certainty that you've probably heard about the Army Corps of Engineers blowing a hole in the Bird's Point Levee in Missouri to relieve residents of Cairo, Illinois of any serious flood threat while, simultaneously, destroying 130,000 acres of prime farmland in Missouri. A tragic story that's slightly twisted in what sacrifice it makes, but nonetheless interesting considering what geological region this story has unfolded within. I'm of course talking about the New Madrid fault line here, which encompasses the states of Illinois, In…

This is my idea for the next S2000 (about as good as any of those japanese "scoop" magazines anyhow). For my final project in my 3D design class I was supposed to make like a desk or something with some tools on it. It's a beginner's class after all. I decided to try my hand at a car, and figured I'd do a roadster (this is my first car model). It's incomplete but close enough (final was yesterday so I had to turn it in). I present to you, the 2010 Honda S2000! * Lighter-weight than outgoing model. * Retractable soft-top folds into forward trunk area. * Offered in three trim levels: base, Type R, and Type RR trim. * RWD X-frame chassis refine…

I have long wondered on C&G we share alot of our GM car buying pleasures or lack there-of in some case. We also share are like or dis-like with what products they are coming out with and what they could be doing better. My question is ultimately anyone can get on this forum and read this stuff are GM exces reading our posts? Listening to our comments? Or advice? I just always wondered that I understand were "just" customers but GM would be wise to listen to most of the folks around here some more... So anyone have a clue? A mod or regular poster?

Yeah, my comp crashed last night...Finally got it fixed...but not just fixed, oh no no no no no. Basically it "crashed" because I messed with the setup....see ever since I had to format my HD from an evil SOB virus, the computer has been performing sub-par compared to what it used to. Flash vids and games had to be on lowest quality and they still lagged, and my games would like a lot when I had the settings way up. I knew this couldn't be right. For a couple months now I've ignored it...but the fact that I have a $500 gfx card in here and it performs about what my old machine was doing is just unacceptable. So I decided, on the suggestion of a friend, to check the memo…

I just spent several hours on the phone with ebay support, jumping through hoops and repeating myself. Now, I'm waiting (again) for "up to 8 hours" for it to show up in a search. I'd just like to know if you see it when you click the link. I'll check the search (again) later.

Don't want to say much about the details as I will encounter the obligatory probationary period, but I will post once things settle down. When I was working on the Monte today (sorting out some minor issues, like the gear selection indicator), I drove it up and down my street today, to stretch its legs just a little. As I pulled back into my driveway, I noticed something big, brown, and furry in the passenger side floorboard: a goddamn mouse. The little $h! even decided to take a leak on my passenger side door sill trim too. I think its hiding under the rear seat.

Here she is, XP48; the one of a kid Cadillac Eldorado Brougham town car made for the 1956 Motorama. I'd seen this thing a long time ago in a book and had almost forgotten about it until I opened up this month's issue of Hemming's Motor News and saw it in the auctions section. I can't believe this thing escaped the crusher at the legendary Warhoops Salvage Yard where Lord knows how many other priceless concepts were squished into a cube. It is without a doubt that GM makes the best-SMELLING new cars. Check out the smell of an up-level GM brand like Cadillac or Buick, for example. I remember the great smell of our new Cutlass Supremes, so much so that I would get up on weekend mornings, in pajamas, put on a bathrobe, and go SIT IN THEM. I can't explain it...but they smelled new, clean, and neither sweet nor harsh. I am bringing this up because I just dropped by a Ford dealership this afternoon. I checked out some new Fusion 4s (not buying, just test-sitting). They don't smell that good. They (cloth seat equipped) smell just like a new athletic gear from REI. How many things would you do differently if you could go back with the knowledge you have now? I can think of several major changes in my life that I would love to make if I could go back in time. They asked the chairman how many people have applied from other plants to transfer/work at his when a job opening becomes available such as somebody that takes the buy-out. The answer they got was shocking. Just three people have said they would move to his plant to keep their job. My take? GM is going to be royally screwed by the # of employees taking the buy out and it will catch them off guard in a big way. Watch for them to hire off the streets in the 4th quarter.

Okay, so March 12 will be my one year anniversary since I purchased the 2006 GMC Envoy SLT 4WD. The GM Certified Used Vehicle 12k mile/12 month bumper-to-bumper warranty is due to expire at 46,942 miles or on 3/12; I'm currently at 46,146 miles right now (796 miles left, so I will not make it to March). I have gotten great use out of the bumper-to-bumper warranty on my truck this past year, and feel that since I still have 4 1/2 years left to pay on the loan I should consider purchasing an extended GM Major Guard warranty before I hit the mileage expiration very soon. I have spoken to the closest Buick-GMC dealership, the one I use for service, and got information on t…

`Tis the season! Post photos of your tree(s) and other decoratives. Our place is too small for the full size tree, so this year we got a little 3' one. It's small but cute, mostly done decorating, complete with a small town underneath and cars! 2010 Mustang GT, 2010 Dodge Charger SRT8, V8 Vantage,XK, Viper SRT10, Ram 2500. The only bummer is that my prize from the Eldorado competition is too big to fit on the tree!

Sometimes a song lyric fits the moment so well.. "I got the call today, I didn't want to hear but I knew that it would come" Though technically it was yesterday... got to head back to Ohio this week and plan a funeral...and I just feel numb...

OK, many of us saw ASIMO fall on his head today, but for a $170K robot it's pretty amazing to see how fluid his motion is. HOWEVER, check out this little guy... the Sony QRIO...he can throw balls, rollerskate, pick himself up after being pushed over, and probably even walk correctly up stairs. This robot makes ASIMO look mentally handicapped. (wait for the very end)japanese fan dance

This could be in "Other Guys," but I think that forum's better for discussion on news, not on opinions. Looking at the things Cadillac is coming out with, with exaggeration on the NG CTS, is it a stretch to say that BMW could easily start losing ground to its competitors? Okay, so the CTS is just one model, but figure in the coupe and wagon that will come out after the sedan and you're going to get a great vehicle. We all know the sedan will be sexy just judging by what we've seen of it, inside and out. It's got everything that Cadillac's Art and Science theme had and more. A very crisp design, the NG CTS could very easily steal many consumers from BMW's band of buyers. …

http://www.pcworld.com/article/168050/will..._chrome_os.html Will Consumers Take a Shine to Google’s Chrome OS? Todd R. Weiss Jul 8, 2009 11:30 am Will Consumers Take a Shine to Google’s Chrome OS?Americans love chrome on motorcycles and toasters, but will average consumers take a shine to the Google Chrome operating system? Google announced its lightweight Chrome computer operating system today and says consumers can expect it by the end of 2010. Google describes the operating system as lean and mean and perfect for small Internet-friendly devices that are both easy-to-use and transport - such as a Netbook. True, Netbooks are very popular with consumers right n…

Oh man, I had to race today for the first time in my Cobalt. Some kid in a tC was zipping through traffic with his fart can, passing ppl. It just so happened at the next light, I was next to him. When I stopped at the light, I hung back instead of stopping even with him. When the light turned green, I popped the clutch, squealed wheels, and caught second gear, leaving his wheezy little Toyota farting in the breeze. HA! That was fun.

I bought a PS3. I've had the urge to lately, but wanted to wait until GT5 was finally released. Yesterday, I decided to act upon this urge and purchased one along with the game 'Fallout 3'. I'm hitting up Ebay for more games as I type. I probably should have splurged for the 250 GB model, but I figured I would never really use the extra disc space anyways and went with the cheaper 120 GB model. With my slow internet connection, I can't see myself downloading a bunch of extras. We have a well rounded household line-up now. PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, PS2, and even an old Sega Genesis. If I still had my Sega Dreamcast, it'd be even better. I'm looking forward to some fun gaming, …

There is a 1967 Impala SS fastback sitting at Orangeville Motors. We took a look at it and it is nice. It is a Southern Car and it has 134 miles on it. It has everything original. It is numbers matching. It has the Vinyl top. Disc brakes, Rallye Wheels which was the first year for them. It even has the redline tires. It has bucket seats, a tach and gauge package and shoulder belts. It is also an air conditioned car from the factory. It has the 327 motors with the Turbo 400 auto trans. It is in very good condition and runs well. It is seliling for $16,500 CAN. Would this car be a good investment since it has all the rare options and will it appreciate much in value in comi…

I'm a member of an Australian automotive forum. It's nothing like Cheers&Gears ... more like a cross between Cheers&Gears and the /b/ area of 4chan. Anyhow, a while back one of the members spotted a really ugly Ford Taurus with a home-made wide body kit on eBay, and we knew that for the sake of society, this vehicle had to be obliterated. We took donations from the forum members, and bought the car with the specific intent of destroying it. There were many plans for a spectacular destruction, including one that involved a serious amount of explosives, but one by one these plans became non-events when all the "nanny state" regulations, paperwork, insurance, and o…

Well, as most of you know, I'm part of Kettering University and, in order to stay a student, one must complete about 6 months of co-op with a company each year in addition to the same amount of schooling at the university. Well, today was a co-op fair and I was starting to lose hope on finding a job since this was my third co-op fair and I've been to about three interviews. Well, as I was leaving my dorm to head down to "the fair," I turned around realizing I had forgotten my belt. As I went to reach for my belt, I felt my phone vibrate and didn't recognize the number. I answered it anyway and it was my co-op manager telling me that a company that I had interviewed for w…

Hello all, CadillacKing3 AKA James Bond AKA now Justin Bimmer checking in. I have been a member of this site for over 10 years. I have had a few bumps in my life with my law career and now I am an Internet Sales Manager at a BMW dealership in California. I hope in the future to share with all of you some of the stories of eccentric purchasers and also answer questions you may have about the car buying process. It's great to be back. Special thanks to FAPTurbo and Lord_Tourettes for getting me back in the fray. I have to say I am really enjoying my job and my 528i M Sport. I'm trying to get a photo of it in my signature, but I think I may need some help. …

I went to Montana and Alberta for a week over the July 4th holiday and took 6 gigs worth of pictures. The last time I was in Montana was 1997, so it had been a while and I had forgotten how wide open some parts of the state are. There is so little humidity that an 85 degree day felt really nice compared to back here. I was in Great Falls most of the time because my grandma used to live there and my grandpa was stationed at Malmstrom AFB in the 50's (called Great Falls AFB at the time). We also passed through Helena, Butte, Billings, Bozeman, Virginia City, and Nevada City. Also, we took a day trip across the border to Writing-On-Stone provincial park near Milk River…

Okay, we've all had our fun with outright enthusiast cars and their fabulous ICE engines, but now it's time to be a little more ecologically conscious. Rules- 1) Production cars only. 2) These are your only vehicles. 3) Any era and market is allowed. 4) MUST BE HYBRIDS!! 5) Maximum of 5 choices. Though if you wish to expand to a Top 10 after picking 5, that is fine. Have fun!

"Do you see what I see?" __ One Republic __ 'Stop & Stare' The recent warmer temps & sunshine, along with seeing many older vehicles out'n'about while I'm driving my "winter" 1979 Caprice Classic, have me itchin' to drive my "summer" 1989 Caprice Classic, for which I need energy to detail it. I'll probably re-instate complete insurance on it soon. With no job prospects or disability (recently received a rejection letter, but will appeal), I'll probably leave my '79 & '81 MCs in storage this season, in an attempt to try to keep them. MEANTIME, I've been "playing around" with some of my scale model cars.... Last year, I bought 2 large display ca…

A few months ago, I posed these queries: What do YOU consider to be "should see" areas/places in your home state? What would you tell travelers to check out, if they have the time, as they drive through your state? What "obscure" and "out of the way" places in your home state come to mind? Below is a compilation of the answers...ENJOY! ALABAMA Battleship Alabama Huntsville ... NASA site ALASKA ARIZONA Barringer Meteor Crater Crown King Grand Canyon (especially North Rim) Hoover Dam (Colorado River) Humphreys Peak, NW of Flagstaff Lake Havasu ... London Bridge Sedona Supai ... Part 1 starts on Route 66, runs 60 miles through some of the mo…

Cars that sold poorly, but you still see everywhere There are some models out there, like the GMC Envoy XUV shown above, that have a reputation for selling very poorly. Yet in some cases, these poor selling vehicles seem to pop surprisingly frequently. The Envoy XUV sold just over 12,000 copies during it's abbreviated lifetime yet I see them all over my area. Within a mile of my house, there are not one, but two families with two of the poor selling, popular to bash, Pontiac Aztecs sitting in each driveway. Our local Isuzu dealer did a good job clearing out the remaining I-series pickups because there is a huge amount of them running around lately. So what do you se…

What's a car commercial from your youth that really stuck in your head over the years... it doesn't have to be a car you particularly liked, but one that was unique and you remember well. One of the ones that really stands out for me was this Isuzu Rodeo commercial. A older teacher in a monotone voice slowly instructs a class of coloring 1st graders to "Stay between the lines, the lines are our friends". Then one precocious little girl decides to scribble all over her coloring book. She grows up to buy an Isuzu Rodeo and goes off-roading. For whatever reason my dad got a kick out of it and it really stuck in my head all these years. So what's one th…

Yes, I've been scarce around here. The reasons are many & varied. Prob. the biggest & most significant is that I've been trying to spend as much time as possible with both the girls. Amelia it seems is growing up twice as fast as Sofia did, sh is seven months old as of Sunday. The day before that she got her first tooth. I'm trying to get as much Q.T. with all three as possible, while catching up on a lot of non-C&G related parts of my life. I still love you guys, I love this forum. But I have to admit the news from GM these s NOT what I need to cheer me up. I get up at 3:30am, go to UPS, end my slave-labor there…
