Cadillac
Cadillac, founded in 1902 in Detroit, quickly gained a reputation for precision and innovation, becoming a leader in American luxury vehicles. Acquired by General Motors in 1909, it set standards with iconic models like the Eldorado and DeVille. Though it faced challenges in the modern era, Cadillac has reinvented itself with bold design and a shift toward electric vehicles, now leading GM’s luxury EV efforts with models like the Lyriq and Celestiq.

If there was one vehicle that was the talk during Monterey Car Week, it would have to be the Cadillac Escala concept. Unlike other concepts that Cadillac has shown during this time, various ideas will appear on future Cadillac models. "There's a lot of stuff that's being captured here. All of that won't necessarily find itself coming out in one car; it will be spread through the portfolio," said Johan de Nysschen, Cadillac's president to Automotive News. One of the key items that will be spread around is the Escala's design. Compared to Cadillac's sharp and angular design language, the design on Escala is a complete departure with curves and smooth edges. de Nys…

Cadillac BLS By Andrew Frankel of The Sunday Times It's a Yank tank with a secret There is a delicious reality gap between the way this new Cadillac BLS is being presented and the reasons for its existence. Ask at Cadillac and you’ll be told this is “a brave new product” for those who “dare to be different”. As it goes on sale in Europe it will be accompanied by a slogan stating that it’s “more than a car, it’s a Cadillac”. This, of course, is cobblers. It’s not a Cadillac at all, unless you choose to call a reskinned Saab 9-3 built at Saab’s Trollhattan factory a Cadillac. It exists because Saabs aren’t selling as they should, leading to spare capacity at the factor…

The CUE is still a point of complaint. I hope Cadillac will address it soon. These reports have been out all week and no one here even mentioned anything?

I just saw a Cadillac commercial for the employee discount, I think the first I've ever seen. Anyway, at the end they advertise a base SRX V6 for $32,000. That's as much as a CTS with the same engine, and far less than the X5 and RX330, which indicates how the market is recieving its premium price. The SRX really needs a significant interior overhaul.

It seems a bit odd that Cadillac is doing a special edition model for Japan as they don't sell that many vehicles there. But trying to figure out why just seems like an exercise in futility. Let's just talk about the special edition vehicle in question. This is the Cadillac ATS Luxury Sport Edition which features a set of 19-inch V-spoke alloy wheels with a two-tone look. There is also a set of Brembo brakes and a sports suspension that comes as part of this special edition model. Other items of note include cashmere accents for the interior, and the choice of either crystal white or sable black paint. A turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder with 272 horsepower and eight-s…

With all the talk of GM division crossover, I've always said that Cadillac wouldn't have to worry about the likes of Buick stepping on their heels if they were aiming at the right competitors. Apparently one of their should be competitors is feeling the heat from the new CTS, their new baby car sure looks a lot like it in design characteristics. You can bet that the interior of this will be a level for Cadillac to envy though. Link To Leftlane Article

GM Kills The SRX Plug-In Hybrid.. For Now... William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com June 1, 2011 For the past few months, the rumors of a SRX Plug-In Hybrid have been making the rounds. Using technology from the Chevrolet Volt, the SRX Plug-In Hybrid was expected to go on sale within a couple of years. Now, Reuters is reporting the SRX Plug-In Hybrid has been put out to pasture. Sources at GM said by the time the SRX PHEV was ready for production, the Theta platform would be at the end of it's life cycle, adding to the cost of the vehicle. This is the third time GM has canned some sort of PHEV project over the past few years. Reuters sugges…

For the longest time, Cadillac has been trying to crack the European market. All of its attempts so far have fallen flat. The brand's latest attempt featuring the ATS and CTS has been shelved for the time being due to financial problems and finding better success in China and U.S. That doesn't mean Cadillac has given up. "Clearly our number one priorities are the US and China, but in the longer term there is a role for Cadillac in Europe," said GM President Dan Ammann. Ammann also was realistic about chances the brand has in Europe. "Is it going to be a high-volume contender in the medium to long term future? Probably not. But is there a role for something other than t…

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,172324,00.html One of the most famous examples of such an odd association in recent years is Cadillac’s use of Led Zeppelin’s “Rock and Roll,” which debuted during the Super Bowl in 2002 and has been used in over a dozen commercials for the car since. Lisa Pottger of New York, N.Y., said these ads in particular turn her off. "I get all nostalgic, then annoyed," she said. The association was, of course, a calculated move. Cadillac was able to change the perception of the "Caddy" from your grandparents’ embarrassingly large boat of a car to the modern, sophisticated power machine that the engine warrants. “…

Anyone know what the difference between the standard traction control and stabilitrack is? This is what the cadillac web site says about the standard traction control "CTS comes standard with a sophisticated traction control system. It detects when a wheel is losing traction and applies a precise amount of brake pressure to the wheel until traction is regained. If slippage continues, engine speed is slowed until traction is regained." Is this the first gen stabilitrack? It sounds as if when skidding, it will apply the brake of one wheel, or more if needed. Anyone know about this?

By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com May 14, 2013 While Cadillac is attacking the German automakers with the compact ATS and upcoming CTS, one place you will not see the crest and shield do battle is in the volume race. "We're not going to be in every single segment that they're in," said General Motors CFO Dan Ammann to Automotive News. Well I have always wondered when the currrent president was put into office in 2005 he road in an unknown Cadillac to me. That I realized was the up-coming DTS, later after studying the front end and looking at spy photos. I confirmed that later at the Chicago Autoshow in 2005. Having said that it doesn't ride on regular tires, obviously it is armored heavily but from the photos on GM's media site it doesn't even appear to be on something remotely similar to the G-body platform, which they had offered armored in the previous Deville from 2004-2005. One rear photo confirms it has leaf springs! My question being what is this thing riding on? Does it have a Northstar in it? …

Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen has a problem with the brand's dealers, specifically how many there are. According to data gathered by Autodata Corp and The Detroit News, Cadillac currently has 928 dealers in the U.S. A large number when compared to competitors in the luxury class such as Audi (281 dealers) and Mercedes-Benz (364). Factor in total sales for year and Cadillac finishes last with each dealer selling an average of 184 vehicles (170,750 vehicles sold for the year). This pales in comparison with the likes of Audi (648 vehicles sold last year per dealer) and Mercedes-Benz (978 vehicles sold last year per dealer). "With our very large dealer network … we so…

Kudos: Cadillac CTS Named Top Safety Pick by Insurance Group ARLINGTON, Virginia — Cadillac's redesigned 2008 CTS on Wednesday earned the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's Top Safety Pick award for 2008. Other winners in the category of "large luxury cars" include the Audi A6 and the Volvo S80. This means the trio earned the highest rating of "good" in the Institute's front, side and rear tests and are equipped with electronic stability control. The news is especially heartening for Cadillac. The 2003-'07 CTS was rated "poor" for rear crash protection. GM redesigned the seats in the 2008 CTS to earn a better rating. The seats are standard in CTS models bu…

Article Quotes: General Motors, aiming to reverse a sales slump for its Cadillac luxury brand, plans to introduce a top-range car and a redesigned SRX utility vehicle next year, an executive said. The car will have rear-wheel drive and arrive in late 2015, Dave Leone, Cadillac’s chief engineer, told reporters in California today ahead of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. The Detroit-based automaker showed an Elmiraj concept that reflected its vision for such a car at the same event last year. The largest U.S. automaker is counting on an expanded stable of passenger cars and the new SRX, its top-selling model, to lure buyers away from German luxury marques and To…

Burnett, which had lost half the business a few months ago after Liz Vanzura moved from HUMMER to run the Cadillac brand, will continue to handle Pontiac advertising and various GM retail business ads. The agency will hand over reins to Boston-based Modernista on Oct. 1. Modernista, which also handles HUMMER, was tapped by Vanzura to handle Caddy's CTS, SRX, performance V-Series models and other projects a few months ago. Burnett was to continue on STS and Escalade. Wake up GM Yes! Now that I have your attention, lets help General Motors wake up and get its act right. Being a Cadillac enthusiast I am disillusioned as to why GM would build and market the Cadillac CTS to compete against the likes of the Mercedes C class, BMW 3 series, Audi A4, Volvo S60, Infiniti G35 etc and yet not offer a feature that can be found in ALL these competing brands: an all wheel drive option. Yikes! GM are you serious about designing cars with consumers in mind? William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com January 11, 2012 Following on the heels of introducing the new ATS, Cadillac is thinking about adding a smaller crossover. “We’re looking at options there. I think it would go a little bit more head-to-head with like the X3,” said Kurt McNeil, Cadillac’s vice president of sales. BMW's redesigned X3 has been a hit in the North American market. The new X3 was built with North American consumers in mind, which is the opposite of what Cadillac would have to do in order to profitably expand its portfolio. “The fact that Cadillac is becoming more of a global brand will certainly play a role in that decision,” McNeil said…

When the Maharaja of Orchha desired bespoke bodywork for his new Cadillac V-16 chassis, he did what most fashion-conscious royal family members do: He went shopping in Europe. It was 1931, and France was in its heyday as the provider of haute couture bodywork for the bare running chassis one could purchase from the likes of Duesenberg, Bugatti, and yes, Cadillac. But instead of sampling the goods at Figoni et Falaschi or Franay, the Maharaja chose to engage the talents of a young Italian designer/coachbuilder named Battista Farina. Cadillac's boss Johan de Nysschen has a plan to rehabilitate Cadillac's image. Part of this plan deals with the dealers with tightening inventory and end the sell-at-any-cost mentality. But as Automotive News reports, there is a slight problem as Cadillac's dealer incentive programs promote the opposite. One incentive attaches $700 in dealer bonus money to every Cadillac vehicle they order from the factory, while another has cash payouts for growing sales. “The business model has been structured more for the bigger brands inside General Motors, rather than the small Cadillac brand,” said de Nysschen. “The luxury business is different.” de Nysschen instead …

David Schiavone, the Escalade's brand manager says a twin-turbo V6 and turbodiesel V6 are being talked about for the model. The twin-turbo V6 could be marketed as a VSport model. No mention when a decision would be made on the additional engines. Source: Automotive News (Subscription Required) William Maley is a staff writer for Cheers & Gears. He can be re…

https://youtu.be/8VGYv4Gg1L8 More powerful, quicker and outright faster than a comparableBMW, Cadillac’s newest model is the best reason to skip the letter M and head all the way down the alphabet to V. The smallest and lightest V model ever, Cadillac has applied years of development from its CTS-V models, not to mention a racing program that has been winning championships on race tracks across America for over a decade. So where better to put Caddy’s claims to the test than on the long straights and complex corners of the Circuit of the Americas Formula 1 circuit in Austin, Texas? Turbocharged Power The lessons learned for this car may come from the past, but Cadi…

A bit too 'boy-racer' for me, but I know there are plenty of fans of the look. If nothing else- the tinted headlight covers would go if it was mine; tinted covers always make a car look like a mole; no 'eyes'. Haven't seen performance stats on it yet, I believe it's in the final stages of development before release, so hopefully those will be forthcoming. Should scoot. Studios duked it out in the design of the key car for Cadillac BY ALISA PRIDDLE, June 2007 | Link to Original Article @ Car & Driver Much ado was made of the fact General Motors Corporation had two design studios competing on the design of the Chevy Camaro. Ed Welburn, GM’s vice president of global design, was so pleased with the results of the exercise that he applied the same practice, and then some, to the development of the 2008 Cadillac CTS. Four teams participated in a “spirited design competition” for the important entry-level Cadillac. The contenders included the Advanced Design Center in California; the main design center in Warren, Michigan; a second adv…

I was on the U.S. Patent and Trademark website earlier ( http://www.uspto.gov ) and after Search Trademarks----->Advanced Search-----> and "GENERAL and MOTORS and CORPORATION and AUTOMOBILES", I saw AT1, BT3, CT6, DT7, and the like newly trademarked. I'm starting to think about the number portions here, being that these tentative new Caddys look like they'll finally be readjusted to take BMW head-on, and my theory is as follows: AT1-1-Series rival, thus the smallest (possibly most hated, at least among diehard traditionalists) Standard of the World! BT3-3-Series rival, probably sized more accordingly than CTS, which would be.... CT5-Current CTS and gang, already …

Cadillac's XT5 is getting a refresh for 2020 that brings it into alignment with the looks of the rest of the brand like the recently introduced CT4 and CT5. The base trim for XT5 is the Luxury model. From there, Cadillac uses a "Y" strategy and splits the upper trims into Sport and Premium Luxury. Either can also be equipped with a Platinum package for the best technology and interior available in XT5. Premium Luxury puts an emphasis on brighter trims while the Sport takes a darker, more aggressive stance. Luxury and Premium Luxury are tuned more towards the soft side while Sport models get a more performance tuned chassis and quicker steering control. The Spo…

I drove through some car lots this weekend, and whilst driving through the Cadillac lot I noticed something that's rather alarming to me... there were probably 6 CTSs in my dealer's lot (smallish dealer), and not one of them had fog lights. Instead, all of them had the cheesy black plastic inserts. And, we're not talking about the "cheap" sub-$40k CTSs either, all of them were over $40k, and only one was less that $44k. GM is touting a $44k car to take on the world's best sports sedans that has no fog lights. Way to scream "CHEAP" GM! Even your best products have major flaws such as this. While the car doesn't look bad the combination of no fog lights and dinky wheels m…

William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com March 16, 2012 Photo by Chris Doane Automotive, LLC - May not be used elsewhere without permission of photographer. The last time we saw spy photos of the 2013 Cadillac SRX, it was covered in camouflage and there was talk of a plug-in hybrid version. Fast forward to today and new spy shots show the 2013 SRX with no camouflage and no plug-in hybrid. Our spy shots show the SRX getting a modest update, with the front end getting a new grill and fascia. The SRX will also sport a new interior, with a capacitive-touch center stack, much like the one on the new XTS. And if you're wonder what happened to the plug-in hybr…

If you were hoping that Cadillac would sprinkle some of the design from the Elmiraj concept for the upcoming CT6 flagship, prepare to be disappointed. GM's vice-president of global design, Ed Welburn, tells Automotive News that the CT6 will not be influenced by the Elmiraj. Instead the CT6 will stick with the art and science design theme found on current Cadillacs. “I think Elmiraj was more of an influence on some other things we’re working on for Cadillac,” said Welburn. “It’ll be different and it will certainly stand out in the portfolio. But you won’t see a real shift in direction.” We'll see if there is a real shift when the CT6 debuts next year at the New York Auto…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com November 24, 2013 It was almost two years ago when Cadillac put German automakers on notice when they introduced the ATS sedan at the Detroit Auto Show. The automaker is looking to do a repeat performance of that by introducing the ATS Coupe at next year's Detroit Auto Show according to a new report from Edmunds. Few details are available about the new coupe, but judging from spy shots, we can assume that the ATS coupe will be somewhat similar in design to the CTS coupe. The ATS sedan's powertrain and transmission lineup will likely carry over to the coupe, as will the option of all-wheel drive. Source: Edmunds William…

Appears GM is serious about improving their dealerships. This particular dealer was good sales/service, but crummy facility and location. These guys started with Olds in the 40s I think...however, they've also had Honda, Subaru, etc since the 70s... NEW BRITAIN, Connecticut - Schaller Auto World has sold its last Cadillac and Chevrolet. General Motors has pulled out of Schaller after the dealer's failure to acquire the VFW property on Veterans Drive. Art Schaller Jr. told The Herald his inventory of Chevrolets and Cadillacs has been sold, many of the vehicles back to the company. "We'll still have a presence here in the city," said Schaller, whose family has been s…

So.....we've been allocated 10 CTS-V sedans since ordering began. The first three I ordered loaded....specifically with the Recaro seat package. Since the first three, the Recaro seat package has been on hold....... So, 7 out of my 10 CTS-V sedans are equipped with standard CTS leather seats, and no alcantara steering wheel/shifter. To be honest....I have no idea of why the Recaro seat package has been on hold.....GM reps are surprisingly "mum" on the matter. I don't give a f*ck for the reason. Supply? Who knows....but for GM not to have planned ahead to provide adequate supply for what is seen as a "must have" on a vehicle of this caliber is just unacceptable.…

Only a few months after closing it down, Cadillac is bringing back their Book subscription program. Expected to launch in the second quarter, the revised program will be bringing in their dealers to play a key role. "Book 2.0 really works even more closely with our dealer network because we think there's a lot of opportunity as you go forward. We're going to base it off the dealer network," said Cadillac marketing chief Deborah Wahl. "We have to recognize that all of us — from the manufacturers to the dealer networks — we have to evolve our models to keep up with where consumers are." The first phase of the program launch will see a small number of pilot pr…

One of the most controversial moves during Johan de Nysschen's tenure as Cadillac President was moving the brand's headquarters from Detroit to New York in 2015. Executives at GM explained at the time this would Cadillac to separate from the day-to-day operations of their mainstream brands - Buick, Chevrolet, and GMC. Sources at the time said another reason for the move came down to various GM executive worrying about Cadillac's worldview from Detroit "was too myopic for a brand with global aspirations." But Cadillac will be moving out of their space at 330 Hudson Street in New York City back to Detroit. This was revealed by Cadillac's new president Steve Carlisle in…

Hey all. This is part getting things off my chest, part asking for advice and opinions from Cadillac owners. Nowhere better (ok, maybe Cadillac Forums) then here. My story is my lease is coming up in less then 6 weeks on my factory ordered 2004 Z71 Avalanche. The buyout is significantly more then what I could pick a similar one for off a lot tomorrow, so I am going to walk away from it. I love it...I had a 2003 for a year after choosing it over a Trailblazer at the time, and my salesman got me into a fully loaded one a year later, for very little more per month...so I have had an Avalanche for 3.5 years. At times it was more then I needed (driving to work everyday), …

By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com January 17, 2013 The 2014 Cadillac ELR is the first model of a new global product offensive by the brand that could see the lineup expand up to ten models by 2016. According the Reuters, Cadillac hopes to grow global sales. The models potentially include a flagship sedan, a small crossover, and a small car. Currently, almost 75% of Cadillac sales come from the U.S. In 2012, Cadillac dropped from forth to fifth place due to sales sliding. "We're saying it over and over and over that we want Cadillac to be a truly global luxury brand. We have the core of a very good product set now and we're working hard at examining t…

General Motors announced this week that it would be investing $245 million and adding 300 new jobs at its Orion Assembly plant - home of the Chevrolet Sonic, Buick Verano, and soon to be Chevrolet Bolt. Now this investment is for an "all-new vehicle program unlike any in the plant's 32-year history." So what could this vehicle be? Motor Trend reports that a source says the program is "a future crossover with no predecessor" and that "the gaps in [Cadillac's] product lineup are obvious." So in other words, the possible program is a small Cadillac crossover. Now we have been hearing and reporting that Cadillac is planning to have a range of crossovers in the next f…

Cadillac's Senior Vice President, Bob Ferguson said in a interview with Automotive News last week that the company is considering expanding the ATS lineup. "You've made the investment. You've built a brand within a brand. If you have a winner, you should exploit that and offer variations," said Ferguson. Models under the spotlight include a convertible and wagon. This would give the brand a better chance of competing with the likes of BMW and Mercedes-Benz. The mention of a wagon and convertible signals a change of product plans at Cadillac. Previous reports had the ATS Convertible on hold and that the brand would likely not do a wagon due to the poor sales of the CTS S…

The contact says the new Escalade will stick with its boxy looks on the exterior and use headlights similar to the ones used on the ELR. The back end has taillights that "run from the roof down, being thinnest closest to the roof" and similar in looks to the CTS wagon. Inside, the contact says the new Escalade will feature much higher quality materials, making it more luxurious. "The interior design is real everything. Real wood, metal, leather," the contact said. General Motors has recently been in the habit of releasing vehicles in China before bringing them to the U.S. Buick released the Envista in China back in September of 2022 but waited until just a few weeks ago to announce the Envista for the U.S. Similar patterns have happened with the Cadillac XT4 and Buick Encore GX. We suspect the same thing is happening here with the Cadillac GT4 that debuted Monday in China. What is it? The Cadillac GT4 is essentially a slightly fastback version of the Cadillac XT4. While decidedly less "coupe" shaped than the Buick Envista, the GT4 stretches the vehicle's look and gives it a more low-slung side profile. The interior …
