When naming crossovers, I think that these automakers need a BIT more imagination. For example: Mazda cX7 Mazda cX9 BMW X3 BMW X5 Acura MDX Acura RDX Saab 9-4X Saab 9-7X Cadillac BRX Nissan X-Terra (started it?) Cadillac SRX Lincoln MKX Chevy equinoX (bit of a stretch) Volvo XC90 Volvo XC70 Volvo XC60 Suzuki XL7 Suzuki SX4 Infiniti QX Lexus RX Lexus LX Lexus GX Cheers to Audi for thier Q-line instead of the X-humping, and Mercedes for not even having an acronym for thier SUVs. Not to mention the domestics for all staying out of the "X" game aside from the lux-marques. Especially Chrysler, which has no faux X's. Any…

I did not know where to post this topic. Mods feel free to re-assign the topic. I was always curious about why members chose the call sign for cheers and gears. While some are obvious, others can be a bit more cyptic, while others use just their name. It would be fun to find out a bit more about the C & Gers. I will start off with my sign in name and it's easy once you see my prferred mode of transportation. PrinzSD Prinz = part of my last name Prinzivalli SD = the famed and best motor Pontiac made, the legendary Super Duty 455, hence SD.

Here's what I consider the top three mot important things I look for in a car. 1. RWD: If it's not RWD then AWD w/ most of the power going to the rear wheels. 2. Manual Transmission: Not a must but very strong preferance! 3. V8 or Inline-6: Short of an exotic motor like a V12 or V16 this is the only way to fly. That's it right there... RWD is most important but the other two I'll compromise on depending on the other redeming qualities of a car. Like a flat-6 Porsche motor would definately NOT turn me off to a 911, but an automatic trans. in a BMW is pretty much a deal killer. So what's the top three things you look for in a car? I left off styling because these days…

I've been itching to get a hold of an older Simplicity snowblower for a year+ now, as I think they look really neat and really sturdily made. Well one finally popped up close to home for $50 so I had to get it. It's not the two stage paddle style snowblower I also want, but the single stage S4. This is easily the beefiest single stage snowblower I've ever come across. It weighs probably double what the Craftsman we have weighs and for good reason: its built to last. Thick steel, metal guards for everything, chains, greaseable parts, gear drive transmission. What's not to love? Well old gas that rusted out the fuel tank and gummed up the carburetor. I was a afraid t…

With the official start-of-holiday-shopping day known as "Black Friday" quickly approaching, what is everyone asking for this year? Due to our financial situation, we're concentrating less on adults (including ourselves) and more on making the Christmas holiday for the children in our family a nice one. Anyone hoping to get that one (or two or three or more!) special present? If so, what is it?

There's a photo of Rick Wagoner speaking, with some car images behind him. I can see the Malibu and a G6 convertible. But what is the larger car on the left? Here is a direct link. It almost looks like a Buick Park Avenue, but with changes. Thank you to whomever answers the question.

Okay, it's a safe bet that Rod Hatfield Chevy in Lexington, KY paid to rip off the melody of some popular rap song for their annoying jingle ... but I wonder if they paid Mr. Loizou of GM Inside News to use his nifty old 'chop of a future Malibu in their local ad spot here? I didn't record this video, so don't blame me for the shoddy camera work. Anyway, pause the video at the 1 to 2 second mark. <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/VA8DNt4kKWg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Yep. For me it was the story from years ago that a highschool friend's dad told as to why he bought an AMC Alliance. Apparently he had a bad habit of (once) locking his keys in the car. So the next car he bought (the AMC) had to be one that you could not lock from the inside and could only be locked by using the key in the door from the outside. The Alliance was the only car he found that did that, so that is what he bought. The family also had an AMC Concord hatch. They finally wised up and traded both for Impalas.

Let's counter the other thread with the Jalopnik-sourced article for a second. In your opinion, what was one of the worst cars ever built that everyone seemed to buy in droves? I'm going to have to go with the Mustang II. Yeah, this and the Pinto are some of the most successful lamentable American cars that just about everyone loves to bash. But, honestly, they deserve it. First year 'Stang IIs didn't have a V8 option and came standard with a four-cylinder engine that made an oh-so-mighty 88 horsepower. Ford had to wind up scrambling to re-engineer the Mustang II to accept the 302 V8 for next year's model and, at that point, it only made 140 tired and weary horses …

Since we've got a thread going on about how we should let the government control what we eat and tell everyone how much we hate overweight people, let's switch gears to a bit. What's your favorite exercise? My favorite is swimming. I love the water and have always enjoyed swimming, particularly underwater. Back when my girlfriend and I lived in Wichita, the apartment place had it's own pool and we would go their almost every day. Before that we had friend who had a fitness membership at a Windham hotel, and would go swimming fairly regularly. Sadly we don't go anymore. When we move I want a place the has a pool, either that or get another membership.

What's your favorite piece of crap car? I've always liked certain iterations of the GM W-Bodies. The Cutlass Supreme Coupe with the 3.4 DOHC V-6 (available with a 5-speed Getrag). The supercharged Grand Prix Coupes. The Lacrosse with the 5.3 liter V8. They were always labors of love, but they were great in their own way.

While spring is right around the corner, it is still winter...and some of us don't have our older cars out to play yet. That in mind, what is your favorite non-car-related event during the year? Mine is coming up next Saturday, February 25. The church I attend in Batavia IL is hosting its Annual Spaghetti Dinner. It has done so ever since I can remember, even back in the late 1970s when my grandfather was the pastor. When I started attending the church in the early 1990s, I was surprised to find that they were still hosting the dinner. It's a wonderful event that brings out church members and community/area residents for an evening of delicious spaghetti, fine desse…

What's your most feared driver stereotype? I don't mean just people who annoy you on the road, I mean people you avoid because you think they'll do damage to you or your vehicle. For me, it is women of a certain age in mini-vans. The typical subject is about 104 lbs, has the seat pushed as far forward as possible, wears giant Jackie O sunglasses, and is an assistant manager somewhere. She only has two modes of driving; slow and erratic in the left lane while arguing on the phone or Michael Schumacher with a bad case of diarrhea and searching an unfamiliar place for a toilet. So how about it? Who out there makes you fear driving?

So I bought an 04 Bonneville for the girlfriend to get around in. Her old car was nearing the end and I got a hell of a deal on this car that was out in Boise. It seemed to be pretty well optioned and I never saw a picture of it, just knew it was in decent shape, had 65K on it, and was white and that was enough for me. So I fly out to Boise to drive it back. When I get there, to my suprise it has hub caps on it. I was over it pretty quickly and figured I would throw a nice set of 17s on it and call it good. Well the girlfriend hates how aftermarket it is going to look with most of the rims I've found for a decent price and wants something stock on it. So I thoug…

THE SEXES Paid To Do It, But Fails To Make His Friend's wife Pregnant After 72 Attempts In Stuttgart, Germany, a court judge must decide on a case of honorable intentions in a situation where a man hired his neighbor to get his wife pregnant. It seems that Demetrius Soupolos, 29, and his former beauty queen wife, Traute, wanted a child badly, but Demetrius was told by a doctor that he was sterile. So Soupolos, after calming his wife's protests, hired his neighbor, Frank Maus, 34, to impregnate her. Since Maus was already marrried and the father of two children, plus looked very much like Soupolos to boot, the plan seemed good. Soupolos paid Maus $2,500 f…

There's just no words.... I remember in my Integra days, when the stock wheels were all stolen and the car was left on bricks. Or when it was broken into downtown to steal some BS beat-up leather jacket (and a few of my mixtapes, which really hurt). Growing up, my parents always had dogs. And in my lifetime, we always had at least 2. Starting around 2003 and through today, their latest clan includes (3) shelties. Commonly confused as "mini collies...small Lassie". Awesome dogs. 1 is pure bred AKC, female, the other 2 are purebred males from rescues. Varied in size. Parents live on the bay in southern DE, in a nice development with a mile long circle loop street around it, and streets in the middle. Mostly all retired, very nice, very quiet people and a mixture of well behaved dogs. Parents have a completely fenced in back yard that connects to a large rear deck, so the dogs can just be outside and safe all over the …

I was thinking about the consistency with which I liked GM brands. I was looking through a classic Pontiac magazine at Borders last night. Pontiacs had the most interesting styling, both externally and internally. - My Dad's 70 LeMans coupe (with an inline six) looked better than Cutlass/Skylark/Malibu of the same year. - Except for 77-78, I always liked the Firebird over the Camaro. - The 70s and 80s Cutlass Supremes were cleaner, but the Grand Prix and Grand Le Mans had commendable Pontiac grilles and dashboards. - Pontiac put out nicer full-sizes in the 70s and 80s than did the competition, particularly in 75 and 76 when the Grand Ville and Bonneville sporte…

My neighbor sent me an email asking if I'd be interested in replacing a bad head gasket in his Subaru wagon. I did a little quick research online tonight. I'm thinking no.

What do you guys do if you can't sleep? Bleh, I am feeling a bit stressed out. Work was insane yesterday, busy. My least favourite insurance reinspector showed up at 12:50 (I leave for lunch at 1). My new truck awaits, and all that jazz surrounding that project, now with a buyer thrown in the mix. My friend Ryan (yes, I've told you about him) called me yesterday to let me know the crew was going to Chili's (!) for lunch instead of our regular place and our receptionist didn't give me the message (luckily he called my extension directly just as I was about to leave) (I love him so much) (Lunch at Chili's sucked. I don't think any of us enjoyed it.) I have a headac…

Simple question: What were you doing when your car was new? My current family... 1972: I was a year away from making my earthly debut. 1976: I was 3 years old. I welcomed my parents' first Monte Carlo to the family, a 1976 model that I "claimed" as "mine" in later years. I was also a year away from my first open heart surgery. 1979: I welcomed my baby sister to the world. 1981: I finished first grade in the spring; started second grade in the fall. 1987: I was in middle school ... and had to say goodbye to my best friend who died of an asthma attack. Former members... 1988: I finished middle school and entered the world of High School. I first started th…

... there is no legitimate reason for a wholesale abandonment of the Zeta architecture. It is a product ready for release with all of its development money spent. It has been crtically acclaimed, and certainly sets a new standard for GM RWD. I will concede that in its present form its shelf life may be shorter than it would have been due to outside factors, but to toss it aside before letting it prove itself in our market is pure stupidity. If CAFE and fuel prices and currency issues pinch it back in the coming years, so be it. But to invite a huge and obvious loss when the product itself is so strong makes no sense. A pendulum swing back to all FWD all the time is …

Interested in hearing the opinions of people other than commentators, I would honestly like to know: Do you vote your candidate, and/or support a party, because: 1) They are the 'Lessor Of Two Evils?' 2) You truly like, and are in agreement with, the majority of what your Party stands for?

I went to bed at like 9 last night. I have the windows open in the house. Around 10:25 I am awakened by a freaking basketball being dribbled and smacked against a backboard... next-door neighbors are standing outside with a bunch of friends talking, and two young girls (about 8 and 10) are playing with this basketball in the dark (one of them repeatedly remarks that she can't see the ball!). WTF. This went on for at least a half hour. And the adults are oblivious to the problem. I live on a cul-de-sac, and none of the rest of us here ever makes noise, let alone at inappropriate hours of the night. I really wish I could use a Jedi mind trick to get them to move out …

This has got to be the worst natural disaster in history, forget the Tsunami's and where are these other countries? Where are the celebrities? This makes me sick. Watching this on TV, yet no country, nor any celebrity coming forward with a donation, or pledge to raise money. I'm about ready to start the C&G Donation working with the American Red Cross. It's the least I can do watching this terrible disaster on TV.

In Afghanistan, a car for the masses By David Nakamura Washington Post Foreign Service Friday, August 27, 2010 IN KABUL Afghanistan, graveyard of empires - and Toyota Corollas. If this war-torn nation of 29 million is a magnet for foreign occupying forces that never seem to leave, it is also the land where old Corollas from around the globe come to die. According to some car dealers in Kabul, 90 percent of passenger vehicles on the increasingly congested roads of the capital are Corollas, some more than 20 years old, with 200,000 miles on their odometers, still chugging along over rocky dirt roads. "Here is the museum of old cars," snorted Abdul Qahar Nadi, manag…

John K. Teahen Jr. Automotive News November 26, 2007 - 12:01 am ET I've read it in the newspapers; I've heard it on the radio; I've seen it on TV. It's great news, the best in years. But I don't believe it. The headlines say, "Detroit 3 back on track" and "New contract puts Detroit back in the ballgame." Not quite. Not by a long shot. I'm not knocking the new labor contracts. They're excellent, and they certainly will help General Motors, Ford Motor Co. and Chrysler LLC as they claw their way back toward respectability. The contracts cut Detroit's manufacturing, overhead and labor costs. I hope they will help GM, Ford and Chrysler overcome their staggering…

So today, my friend an I were changing the oil in 4 cars and in conversation a couple of questions came up that we didn't know the answer to. 1) Where did GM came up with Northstar? 2) Have there ever been any other GM engines that had a name that was more recognizable than say the displacement?

Why, Tuscon, AZ of course Got these in an email this morning, and I've seen this "boneyard" in person. Military aircraft as far as the eye can see. Email text follows: I agree it is difficult to comprehend the size of the facility and the number of aircraft stored there. Of course the important thing to remember is that they are all capable of being returned to flying condition if the need ever arises. There was an excellent book published a few years ago on the celebration of the "Boneyard's" 50 anniversary. It was written by Philip D. Chinnery and is entitled "50 Years of the Desert Boneyard" published by Motorbooks International and can be obtained through any …

I'm in need of locating a new trim part for my wife's '13 Buick LaCrosse and don't want to visit the dealership. The trim part is for the trunk, it's the plastic cover for the right/passenger side hinge, as seen in the attached pictures. We bougth the car a year ago November 7th and the wife pointed out two weekends ago that the trim was missing. Of course the selling dealer (CarSense) said that their warranty ran out at 6 months and I should pursue this with GM/Buick under the balance of the factory warranty (I disagree, as the part's missing it did not break). Anyway, I'd appreciate suggestions on any GM parts online sources.

We've done this before, but there may be some new members wanting to share and heck I can't remember what you guys said last time. So here goes. Tell us about your area, population, attractions, industry, car culture etc and do you like living there, do you want to move, where? Maybe even a bit of history of your neck of the woods. Did you grow up there? I'd enjoy photos of the villages and hamlets in which you live.

I felt like I HAD to share this, what with our recent conversations on C&G about bad drivers, bad driving skills, crashed Inifiniti QX56 and all the talk of Toyota drivers who should really NOT be car owners so much as bus pass owners... This was posted on Buick-59.com by a getleman in the UK who has a 1959 Buick Invicta nicknamed "Ruth".

Hi there. It has been some time since I last posted in this section of the forum. Sure I have been writing the odd review here and there, but other than that, I have been a bit of a ghost. Popping in and our in case of some incident that needs to be addressed. So what has been going on? Aside from 2020 being well a 'landfill fire' (and that's me being family friendly), I've been quite busy with work. Since mid-April, I have been on three different projects which have taken up a lot of my time and mental energy. Add this on top of working from home since March with no real outside interaction, COVID-19, and other personal issues, and you get a recipe of feeling very d…

Maureen McCormick was Marcia Brady, for you younger members who may not know. In the 70s and 80s, that look was an LA mainstay, practically a dime a dozen. Nowadays, in LA, you don't see anybody like that. So where are they? The same is true in Portland. In the last 10 years, WASPY pissy little Portland (I hate Northwesterners) doesn't look as white and pissy as it did 10 years ago. I know where the Maureen McCormicks are. In Chico and places like that, which is where I happen to be today en route to Sacramento. The third tier tiny cities of the West are where those people apparently now reside, unless they live in the spendy neighborhoods of the urban areas the…

Hey everybody, I'm taking a trip home to Ohio from New Jersey for the first weekend in December. I am really really interested in purchasing a Cruze Eco - probably an automatic, as my boyfriend doesn't know how to drive manual. I doubt I'd be able to find a Cruze Eco for rent, but I was looking to rent a Cruze, hopefully with the 1.4 turbo for my trip. Does anyone know which rental agency have Cruze's in their fleet? If I can't find a Cruze I'll just be taking the old Grand Prix for another trip! I am about 9-12 months away from looking for a new car, and I figured, a 550 mile stint behind the wheel would tell me how I like the Cruze, as far as comfort and travel…
