So the 2007 Leasebacks will be in at our dealership in mid November-Early December. After the Cobalt fiasco my dad wants to get the floatiest, wallowiest rental queen we can find. Lucerne CX would be perfect but it's beyond what we want to spend with the Allure only a bit less equipped for a few grand less. The leaseback figures our salesman has quoted us with says that prices would be nearly the same for all 3. He says he likes the Impala himself, but the seat issue continues to nag. My dad has a bad back from when he was run over by a stolen car at a police roadblock in the 1970s so he'd have to revisit the lumbar support to see if it makes any difference, but tha…

I'm sure you all know of the deadly plane crash here in Lexington yesterday morning. When something like this happens so close to home, it really touches you personally. When a newly married couple and a couple flying out to get married both die in a fatal plane crash, it really made me thankful that I have my wife with me today and that I still have a life to live with her. I know we bicker and pick at each other and disagree and sometimes get a little too rowdy, but I think we all need to take a minute to remember how lucky those of us who haven't lost someone tragically are today and to make sure we keep those who aren't so lucky in our hearts and thoughts over the…

Two days from now I'm heading to Germany for vacation. I'll also be inspecting the house being built. Construction is scheduled to be complete in mid-December. If the American electorate gives me the birthday gift I want this time around, I'll be staying till at least January 20th. If not, I'll be leaving anytime after the 1st of the year. PCS, if you're in Frankfurt, be sure to wave as my ICE rushes by you on Thursday morning.

It seems that people like to makea big deal out of navigation being available (or not available) on various cars. Put your feelings on what a car in a certain class "should" have aside and answer the question: Do you want a navigation system in your next car? And a bonus question: If you had navigation, would you use it?

So, it's been a week or so since I washed the Balt. So today it went to the car wash. While drying it, I noticed something: It's bubbling up rust at the bottom of the driver's side door! The Balt is not even 4 years old yet! WTF? To say I'm disappointed would be an understatement. I mean, it could just be a fluke, but still....... I'm taking it to the dealership to see if anything can be done.... Man....

I've searched the world over for a car that I think would fill the bill for blu's new car. This car has a small frame and is low to the ground, just like blu. He can easily escape/run away (no pun intended to Ford) from the next gay driver he smashes into since this car has no doors or roof. It will allow him easy access, always a plus to the car too. It will also allow him to tan on those HOTTTT AMISH days in Lancaster, PA. Ladies and Gentlemen I bring you the Zest, which comes in an assortment of bright colors so others will be able to see blu approaching from miles away in all directions. This car is also good for trips to nude campgrounds in PA. I've asked CPF, if we …

I consider myself a decent typist, prob. about 50wpm or so if I'm just typing on the fly, as opposed to transcribing. Typos creep in, of course, but I find there are a few that I do very frequently, because of a particular series of keys that are close to one another, etc. 1- "teh" for "the"- ooh, that one bugs the crap outta me! Seems tho that it has become a "real" word on the internet; ugh. 2- "form" for "from"- funny thing is, I never do it the other way around 3- "fomr" for "from"- WTF? to my Cobalt. For those of you that don't know (probably most of you), I was in a pretty bad accident with it in mid-July. To make a very long story really short, my left side and front bumper took most of the damage. My door and fender got shredded and the side airbag deployed. Everyone involved was unharmed. After some minor quibbling with GEICO, I got it repaired with all GM parts, and the total for the damage came to almost $6700. The car looks, feels, and drives just like it did before the accident, but *I* feel differently when I drive it, even after a month and a half of having it back. I'm sure some of you think it's weird to get even the least bit emotional over…

I just realized today that I have been a member of C&G for five years this month. May 2003 was when I first registered, way back on the really old board. I was looking for some information on the Oldsmobile phase out and linked to here, which was still in a fledgling state and probably had only 200-300 members. And what kept me coming back was the Member's Talent area, the Skunkworks designs for the Chevelle, and the professional comprehensive reporting on automotive news. As long as I've been a member, we've had three major board redesigns, two large board failures, we've seen the last Oldsmobile roll off the line, we speculated what the C6 Corvette would look…

This has been a larger and older GM sort of weekend. Yesterday, I saw a powder blue Olds Toronado with a white top. That meant it was a '75. It was spotless. I couldn't take a photo. I waved at its driver. He waved back. This morning, I saw a mid 1990s' Olds Ninety Eight Regency of the variety @NINETY EIGHT REGENCY has. I saw it coming up on me in the fast lane on the freeway. I saw that it was silver. When it caught up with me, its interior was burgundy. But I already knew this is my favorite color combo for a vehicle. This was another immaculate GM car. For a split second, with its lack of finning at its rear, it almost resembled a small Lincoln Tow…

Or try to run your lawn mower using seawater. It's the only explanation I can come up with for what you're about to see. For reference, this is what a Tecumseh what a typical carburetor looks like: This is a carburetor I worked on last week. The gas in it was sold old it had evaporated and left corrosive, nasty varnish. This was the worst carburetor I've worked on. And then this came along. All I could say was: The customer had bought it last year from me. At the time the carburetor was in the the condition of the firs image. Perfectly fine. He told me at some point last year he had to hold the governor to get it to start and then it eventually woul…

The Year Is: 1972 The year is 1972. You've been running hooch for a while now and you current car is in kind of tough shape after your latest escapade. The money has been good though, so you decided it's time to upgrade your ride. A full sized car won't fit in your shed and a small/pony car doesn't have the trunk space for merchandise. Police in your neck of the wood have been getting steadily more powerful cars over the past few years so a fast engine is a must. To this end, you decide a midsized two door with a big cube engine will get you where you need to go and leave the police in the dust. They only question is, which one? 1972 Pontiac GTO 1972 Plymouth…

So, it is with great concern that I must address this issue publicly. An automaker, who should know better, has a vehicle that is beginning to develop rust bubbles at just three years of age. This automaker is Ford and the vehicle in question is Josh's 2013 Escape. Is it just me or is that not a decade too soon for this sort of thing? As for background, the vehicle has obviously lived in the salt-ridden world of Pennsylvania for the majority of its life–as have each and every one of our other vehicles over the years. It should also be stated that, in his ownership, its been washed at least bi-weekly. He takes better care of his vehicles than I do, he's excessively OC…

I was talking with a guy at work the other day, and it turned into a conversation on places we wouldn't mind living. Some of the highlights: (me) I wouldn't mind living in Delaware, its the state nobody ever thinks about, very incognito (him) Too many gay people for me (Seriously, he said that, he's a good guy otherwise, so I didn't rip him a new one for being homophobic like I normally do) (him) Kentucky wouldn't be that bad (me) Have you ever been to Kentucky? (him) No (me) Its like West Virginia, without the class (him) Ouch, West Virginia is known for being pretty poor (me) I almost moved back to Chicago a few years ago (him) I liked Chicago, but…

Well after staying in Rehoboth, DE for 4 days, I now want a place of my own down there. And after seeing so many awesome cars in Ocean City, I now want an old car of my own. Neither of which is bound to happen any time soon, being that I'm single and don't have a partner's income to supplement my own to buy extra luxuries like that. Why does life have to be so cruel?

We like to complain at length about the bad ideas incorporated into vehicles these days, but what are the bad ideas they haven't implemented yet? Here's what I'm thinking: - A front engined, front wheel drive motorcycle with the engine mounted in front of the front tire, on the front fork. The space where the engine normally goes is used for storage of something. - A convertible with a removable fabric floor instead of a removable fabric roof. - A rear engined, rear wheel steering, front wheel drive pickup with the bed over the front wheels instead of the rear. - A cabover economy car. - A set of in-dash smoke machines instead of Service Engine Soon lights that expe…

So... why did I start this? Last night... I got a nice ride in a cop car. Yay. I think it's time to move to Arizona... This is ridiculous. My Millenia was never perfect in the first place, but damn. Rust, scratches, a ding? Pisses me off. It always had a bit of rust on the right rear fender since I bought it, but it was barely noticeable. As soon as winter came, it started to get worse. After that, I didn't really pay attention to it. Well, yesterday, I happened to look at it and its so much worse, not to mention I now have some on the left side, too. I'll just let the pics speak for themselves. I couldn't get a pic of the ding, though.

This week, I wasn't able to attend the memorial service of an elderly woman I've known since 1978 ... when my grandparents moved to Batavia IL so my grandfather could pastor a church there. And, in a way, I'm glad I didn't go. Back in 1987, when my then best friend died, I was all about the memorial service. I felt the need to BE there ... and, I was. It was awesome hearing people talk about him ... and hearing stories about him that, sadly, I didn't know. I even found out that he didn't want me to know how bad his asthma was ... because of my own health issues. But, since then ... and especially in the last few years ... I've grown to dislike and not want to attend…

Describe a car (The Chevrolet) you think can be number one in term of sales, and that would be profitable of course (and maybe exciting as well). How big (dimensions), how roomy (trunk, volume, legroom) should it be? Which bodystyles? Which accessories , colors... And how many cars would you sell per year? How would you name it/ or what are the names you would use if there is a name for each trim level?

If anyone noticed among the quibbling and the politics I decided to take a leave of absence for a little while. My reasons primarily being that the politic engulfed this site (which in and of itself is not a terrible thing), but brought out the ugly side of some members (a bad thing). It's pretty painful to watch just how petty and immature some people got, especially when they are normally level-headed. I decided that with enough issues at home to deal with the last thing I needed was to come to a place that was so disharmonious. I figured I'd comeback after election day to see if it would finally clear up, people would return to their former sense, and we could actua…

We finally got our first real snow of the year, a whopping 4 inches. But since this is Missouri, it might as well be eleven feet, these people are absolute morons on the road. Saw a guy in a Silverado do a complete 360 upon exiting a gas station. Did I mention its only snow? Dry snow at that? I ran up the street in Tiny and didn't have a problem, even with the huge wall of snow the city kindly left at the bottom of the driveway. Now I think we're going to take the old, 9.5' kayak out and use it as a sled.

About exactly like the title says. What new vehicles are you anxiously awaiting a read about?? I know I'm really excited to read about a few vehicle.. On the obvious side, GT350/R. Then on the less obvious side is the new Tacoma. Nissan Titan XD and Continental. The new Titan with a Cummins 5.0..That thing has potential to really shake up the half ton segment. By no means do I think it'll dethrone the D3 but I think it will make great competition and hopefully one of the D3 will make something competitive to it. I believe it is rated 350hp and 550tq. Not too long ago that was the big diesel numbers. Now it's a "mid sized" diesel. The Continental makes me r…

I come to find out today that my mom plans on clearing out the driveway. So that means both van are being junked (a pity, the very first car I ever drove was the `86 Caravan), but she also seems to plan to junk the Grand Marquis. She pulled it off the road to save money a couple months ago. Has a flat, and although I (and only I) made the effort to start it up, battery probably is too weak to start it. Does still have power through. To get it back on the road it needs a battery if this one is no good, and a tire. Have a spare tire, no biggie. All right boys and girls. I've got a BIG question to ask. I'm looking for a long-term project car. My requirements are that be General Motors, 1955-1975. I'd prefer a muscle or pony car, but that is not a requirement. My biggest requirement is that it be a rolling chassis. It doesn't have to have an engine, it doesn't really have to have an interior. Keep in mind this will be a long-term (ie 5-ish years) project vehicle. I also know that I don't want to spend a lot of money on the initial purchase, I'm thinking about $2,000 for the initial rolling chassis. The rest I can come up with as time passes on. Any suggestions?

Worst Car Showcase Presents: The Chevrolet Vega The Vega could quite possibly be one of GM's worst efforts in the sub-compact car market in the history of the company. When GM and Chevrolet introduced the Vega models, which were a coupe (Hatchback), a sedan (Notchback), a two-door station wagon (Kammback), and a sedan delivery (Panel Express), all the way back in 1971, it was their poorly concerted answer to Volkswagen ass-engined Beetle, Ford's cheeky pint-sized rolling fireball, known as the Pinto, as well as the torrent of bland and dreary econo-boxes being shipped over from Japan by the bushel full. Yes, when it came to the era of disco and bell-bottom jeans, the…

I just found a 1980-84 Oldsmobile Omega Brougham Coupe at the wrecking yard. The car is beautiful with its tan paint that is only chipped. There is absolutely no rust on the body. Every single piece of chrome trim that should be there is there. It is clean and has all original wheel cover all matching. The best part is, the interior. It is a darker brown. The cloth seats are mint with no rips and the dash is the same. No paint faded and every chrome piece is in the interior. The wood trim is all there and not scratched nor pieces missing. It also has the bucket seats and it may have the V6. The interior was vacuumed and cleaned before it was brought to the junkyard as was…

Well y'all, its two weeks to go till I'm a dad. Right now the wife is in the hospital being monitored due to her blood pressure being higher than "normal" They're also looking at her urine to make sure she's not leaching protien (which means probably toximia (sp?), if they find an excessive amount, they're going to induce, if not, she'll come home tomorrow and we'll have to wait for the next thing to happen. Right now I'm just at home about to catch some Z's with hopes of going to work tomorrow and having her come home tomorrow night. I'll try to keep everyone on here informed, and if any of you are religious, the prayers wouldn't hurt. But for right now, that's abou…

I just happened to check a Grand Theft Auto site today, first time in about four months, and there is a new trailer posted of the next GTA, simply titled "IV". Check it out!! It looks like it is set in Liberty City (which now has many realistic-looking New York landmarks like the Empire State Building, MetLife [GetALife] Building, Flatiron Building, and Chrysler Building), but I've heard rumors the next GTA would also take place in Europe...maybe they're hinting at Eastern Europe?

Just some daydreaming born out of some Sonoma-related frustrations. http://knoxville.craigslist.org/cto/860186545.html This car is also located about 20 miles south of where the Cutlass originated from (Jellico, Tennessee), and somewhere around the town from where the Cutlass was originally purchased (LaFollette, Tennessee). I wonder what other gems I can find in Tennessee?

This is a combination of CheersandGears monthly car spotter threads and Would You Rather threads. Ive come to realize that lately in Montreal, in the summer, interesting cars appear. This was not the case even 5 years ago...but Ill take it now.... Usually, the interesting cars are seen by me on the same day or 24 hours later, and usually, these cars are somewhat similar in some peculiar way. I like to pair them up and start a conversation. These are past sightings. A sample of three from Motor Trend Forums for some of you to see what kind of bizarre thoughts I have.... http://forums.motortrend.com/70/9633577/the-general-forum/would-you-rather-an-e30-m3-from-bmw…

My schedule for the rest of the week is as follows: Tuesday - Work from 5-9:30 with my best friend and favorite boss. Wednesday - Co-op job interview at Continental Teves, Inc. (my top choice for a co-op position!) for Kettering University. Then work from 5-9:30, again with my favorite boss. Thursday - Test in Psychology. Last day of school before Spring Break. Work from 2:30-6. Friday - Start tearing down engine to put in camshaft, valve springs/retainers, pushrods, ceramic-coated headers/y-pipe, 180* performance thermostat, spark plugs, and spark plug wires, along with a full computer tune (though that means I'll be without my PCM for 5 days lol). as prices are getting crazy around here.... Going to do a bit of stocking up on food (Water, stuff like that) because what used to be 2.49 for a case of water is now 3.99 in just a matter of a month or so...seems like everything is going up quick! I'm starting repairing (or updating) the cars earlier to save a few bucks, and finish preparing for a rough rest of the year's weather. Even stocking up on oil...can;t beat a synthetic at 3.38/qt.... Have you guys adjusted your habits as well?

MOre accurately, part of the end-of-semester college experience. I've been up working on my 3D animation since 9 or so..I was lucky enough to get a 3 hours nap...which is why I'm still able to maintain consciousness. On top of my 3D final I'm working on (critique due today), I have a social psychology paper due next week, probably 20 or so essays do for aesthetics (plus the final), and a photography project due Monday...then the final for that class. I also have a test in science next week. College...it sucks this time of year. Any of you guys experiencing this fun too? ...I see daylight....

YUMA AZ -- In the latest US government handout to big corporations, the US Army is giving a lot of free Sonoran Desert land on the Yuma Proving Ground to General Motors for private development. GM and the Army recently signed a deal to create a joint-use facility on 2,400 acres north of Yuma next to US 95. GM also will get an unspecified amount of land adjacent to this site for its own exclusive use. The facilities will be developed for testing GM's mostly gas-guzzling global warming vehicles. Because it will be on military protected land and under restricted air space, GM is assured of privacy as it develops new Hummers. The Army recently claimed it needed to expan…

Toronto Star article Is "Canadian" the new black? Perhaps – that is if you're a racist speaking in code. Recent revelations that the term "Canadian" is being used to replace racist names for black people have got a Texas assistant district attorney into trouble and have left others wondering what exactly it means to be labelled a Canadian in the American south. Long derogated as weak-kneed liberals with lax laws and funny monopoly money, Canadians have carried a negative connotation in certain regions of America – but not as a replacement for the N-word. Earlier this week a columnist with the Houston Chronicle uncovered an email from Harris County assistant distri…

Someone sent this to me in an email, and I have to say that this plane is hot: Photos of The First F/A-22 Delivered to Langley AFB These are photos of the F/A-22 (Raptor) as the first aircraft delivery was being made to Langley AFB in VA. Langley is to be first operational AFB for the F/A-22. The Aircraft flying along with the F/A-22 in several of these photos is the F-15D, which will be replaced by the F/A-22 since testing by the USAF has verified predictions that the F/A-22 would be several times better than the F-15. In actual in-flight (simulated combat) operations against the F-15, one F/A-22 was able to operate without detection while it went head t…

We have a Dog Bar in our neighborhood and they we're offering a $100 bar tab to the best dressed dog (owner, or course) For those of you that are not familiar with a dog bar, it's exactly what it sounds like. A bar, usually mostly outside but sometimes with a small inside area, where you can take you dogs and watch them play while you socialize and have a drink. It's tons of fun, if you're a dog person but don't wear nice clothes on a normal night We dressed our two dogs up and went with a couple of other people that dressed their dogs up. (This is a REAL dog friendly community) Max, our jack russell, dachshund, chihuahua mix, was a rockstar: Obviously, he w…

I live near Flint, MI and I know that GM didn't move its headquarters to Detroit until about 1923...I'd like to find out where their original headquarters were located up here. I've been checking all over for weeks on end trying to find out where it was. Does anybody know or have any ideas on how TO find it?

Welcome to the latest update of Steve (MyerShift) and his Plymouth Breeze. Rapidly approaching, Thursday will signify the second full week I have been without my car. First, it took the dealership forever to figure out what the problem itself was (and I've heard that Volkswagen dealerships are questionable). Second, problem found regarding failing fuel pump. I was quoted Tuesday (today- January 16, 2007) as the day I would be able to pick up my car. So, I scrounged the money together for what I do have to pay regarding the repair, and I called Team Hillsdale Chrysler before leaving Coldwater to make sure that I could pick up my car, which leads us to: Third, I can't g…

So I was thinking earlier and came up with a ton of questions about battery-powered and hybrid, non-ICE vehicles... 1. Can they haul like our diesels? Can they off-road? 2. How would you "mod" one? Add some RAM like a computer? Obviously not, but who knows... 3. When they become widespread, will they be able to power the planes that you fly from here to Europe? 4. Will they be able to be used in the water, ATV, and very cold conditions (not only in cars way up north, but also snowmobiles and the like)? 5. Of course they'll be more expensive at first, but after technology gets going, will they be cheaper than mass-produced ICEs? 6. What will happen to gas stati…

Apparently this "never made it out of committee", but here's what was proposed: >>There is a bill that the Washington State Legislature is trying to pass in Olympia that, if successful, will directly add huge costs to our vehicle license fees. The bill was SB 6900 and it adds an "engine displacement" fee to the vehicle license tabs upon renewal. Engine Size (liters) Rate Schedule Up to 1.9 : $0 2.0 - 2.9 : $70 3.0 - 3.9 : $225 4.0 - 4.9 : $275 5.0 - 5.9 : $325 6.0 - 7.9 : $400 8.0 or over : $600 Here's the web page for the bill where you can read the text: http://apps.leg.wa.gov/billinfo/summ...6900&year=2007<< Oooo... it's…

He was the one doing 90 in a 60 on a windy road in a Golf and he was the one starting to swerve on purpose too scare his mom. So, when you're on the road, and there's a bump that goes all the way across, so it catches both front wheels at once, and then there's a 3-foot dark circle on the road just ahead of it from oil being flicked off from under vehicles because of the bump.
