So, since we may not get many more big snow storms before winter ends, I grabbed a few this morning...I took some artistic ones too which I'll post later after I finish adjusting/framing them. 15 inches of snow from this one.

Well we know at this point that Saturn, Chevy Trucks and GMC are getting hybrid models. Who else in GM should get a model with hybrid? It would be nice to see a Cobalt hybrid that can take out the Prius and Civic Hybrids in seconds.

So this is the deal, I was going to get a Camaro or Trans Am, but it's apparently out of the question because the insurance is way too high. Basically, this was a kick in the balls because that's all I ever focused on and never looked into any other cars. I really like muscle cars, but unfortunately the insurance is too high and the only ones available in my price range are Camaro, Firebird, and Mustang, but of course I would never buy a piece of garbage Mustang. I need help trying to find a GM used car that comes with a V8 and has decent performance for under $20,000. I was thinking maybe a Monte Carlo SS or a Pontiac Grand Prix, but both are hard to find with a V8. …

Motor Trend recently did 3-row SUVs comparison and just today posted Explorer vs Traverse comparison https://www.motortrend.com/cars/kia/telluride/2020/3-row-midsize-suv-comparison-test/ https://www.motortrend.com/news/2019-chevrolet-traverse-vs-2020-ford-explorer/ Both Explorer and Traverse rated pretty badly, with Traverse significantly better than the newer Explorer. I think it is simply unforgivable for domestic bread and butter crossovers to be so bad and even more unbelievable that they are being badly beat by a KIA! This is overall test rating: 9th Place Volkswagen Atlas It's plenty spacious but has a ride that will make kids carsi…

IDK Someone might think this funny, or maybe not. You just have to take into context this story is from days gone by. Just heard this story recently, thought I'd share. Story Subject One - Grandfather, kind to his grandchildren, strict with his eleven children - and don't mess with him type of owner in his paint & body shop. Subject Two - Disgruntled customer looking over the body & paint work - saying they don't like the job, and not going to pay. Result Subject One - Grandfather pulls out a tire ratchet, smashes car and asks how they like it now? Subject Two - Disgruntled customer takes his insurance job to another shop. You wou…

The in-line edition of Autoweek had an interview article with Gary Convis, of Toyota about their application of a diesel option in a Tundra. In addition the following pieces of news were included. By RICHARD TRUETT | AUTOMOTIVE NEWS 6:00 am, September 20, 2006 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Could Toyota break with 50 years of business practices and go outside the company for an engine? It's not out of the question for the diesel engine being planned for the new generation of Toyota's Tundra pickup. Production of that vehicle begins next month, but Toyota has not said when a diesel opti…

We like to complain at length about the bad ideas incorporated into vehicles these days, but what are the bad ideas they haven't implemented yet? Here's what I'm thinking: - A front engined, front wheel drive motorcycle with the engine mounted in front of the front tire, on the front fork. The space where the engine normally goes is used for storage of something. - A convertible with a removable fabric floor instead of a removable fabric roof. - A rear engined, rear wheel steering, front wheel drive pickup with the bed over the front wheels instead of the rear. - A cabover economy car. - A set of in-dash smoke machines instead of Service Engine Soon lights that expe…

I have decided to keep my truck for the foreseeable future. It runs great and returns good mileage for what it is. So I'm looking into some mild pimping options. Today I ordered a grille for it, with a carbon-fiber-look frame and chrome factory-style mesh, along with a billet bowtie (which I may refuse, I think I prefer the factory gold one to match the one on the tailgate). I am also looking into ordering from Putco a set of chrome mirror caps, chrome door handles and tailgate handle. If I could find a set of chrome inside door handles, I'd order those... I will wait to see if GM puts them in any trim level of the '07s, as I may order OE. I have also priced a Leer …

I just looked up currency rates. Our dollar buys $ 1.10 worth of Canadian dollars. That is unbelievably bad, relatively speaking. When you throw on their taxes, you are right about 1:1. That's horrible. There is no reason to go vacation in Canada right now. Obviously, it's a field day for them coming down into the States to vacation. I remember that, living in Seattle from 1997 through 2000, the US:Canada ratio went to 1.00 : 1.52 once. Crossing the border to vacation or buy things was like stealing...or felt like it!

I am guilty of buying too many cars. In the past three years I have owned a 1999 Grand Am, 1993 GMC Sierra, 2003 Corolla, 1985 Grand Marquis and a 2005 Acura RSX. Looking at that I have wasted too much money on cars. I have the RSX and access to my fathers Sierra (which I am beginning to love) at the current time. I want to drop the RSX in favour of a new truck, but I am going to get raked over the coals. Is there a help clinic for people like me? The only other option is to work at a car dealer and get new demos every 8000 kms!

More pictures on the Audi RS6 Forum Things to be aware of: The car is an Audi RS6 Avant ABT, and was in pristine condition before the incident. The photos show the car exactly as it was after the crash (there was no cutting of moving of the vehicle done by the emergency response team). The driver called emergency services on his cellphone and got out unaided. The driver had only minor scratches, and after a couple of hours in hospital, came out with only a bandage on his little finger. And for the understatement of the day, "The police believe that excessive speed was a contributory factor in the accident".

Job seekers with no ties to any particular location often seek jobs in big cities like New York, Chicago, Los Angeles or San Francisco. But are these the places where they're most likely to find a job? Not according to the most recent data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Job seekers are better off looking in such cities as Sioux Falls, S.D., Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Rapid City, S.D. All of these cities registered the lowest unemployment rates in July 2008. Low unemployment rates seem harder to come by in today's economy. Jobless rates were higher in 338 of the 369 U.S. metropolitan areas surveyed this July, which means 92 percent of cities have seen an increase in…

Right now? In class. Well, I've been around a bit, just under the radar I guess. Remember that thread I posted a month or two ago about my grandfather being in the hospital? Well he passed away a half hour into April 28th. Prior to that time, I had been driving about an hour to the hospital and back about two or three times a week to both see him and support the family who took the loss pretty hard. Then I missed an entire week of school last week (sans Tuesday) to be with the family and go to my grandpa's viewings and funeral. Now I'm finally back at school and catching up on the stuff I've missed. Speaking of school, I'm at the end of the fifth week of this semester…

Today supercar shoppers are spoiled for choice. There's more supercar, and almost-supercar choices than you set on fire. Some of them do that themselves, though. But it wasn't always like this. No, rewind 13-14 years, and there but 2 real options- the Ferrari F430, and the Lamborghini Gallardo. The F430 was the gorgeous 360 Modena's uglier, but more athletic successor. A car that continued Ferrari's foray into the digital age that their cars now reside in. The Gallardo was the car that saved Lamborghini and was the first full product developed by their overlords- the VW Group. Sometimes called the Camry of supercars, there are more Gallardos than every Lam…

Well I finally decided to get myself a new pair of shoes. The cheap ones from, I think Target that were bought for me as a gift barely lasted a year. I've never owned a pair of shoes where the bottom of the shoe wore down to the point where a hold developed on one shoe. I could feel the damn ground under me. Sucked real hard when it rained. Plus they have holes by the toes and the soul is starting to separate on the right shoe. One of the few nice things about Lawrence is that New Balance has a factory, and a factory outlet here. New Balance is IIRC the only major shoe company that manufactures any of its products in the states. Some of their low end stuff is made in Ch…

Today is June 1st and the beginning of Pride Month. I feel like I can consider all of you my friends and I wanted to thank you for being allies through all the years we have been coming here. This website will be 21 years old in August this year. I've been at the helm for most of the time it has been around and have never been not open about who I am. Car culture has been a historically toxic, "macho" realm with no room for the LGBT crowd. I am proud that I am able to be who I am with you guys while some other sites have LGBT leadership that is unable to be themselves publicly. Cheers to all of you for being awesome. So I climbed the stairs of the CN Tower yesterday for a charity event. 1776 stairs (144 flights) Took me 15 minutes, 1 second. The records listed on the wall at the top were quite amusing... Fastest stair climb was 7:41 Fastest stair climb on a pogo stick: something like 58 minutes Most stairs in one day: Up the tower 17 times. Other numbers I don't remember, but had records listed: Fastest stair climb on a modified motorcycle!! Fastest stair climbs while carrying items, including: Engine from a Suzuki Samurai, 200 lb pumpkin. Most stairs fallen down: all 1776, on purpose. People will do some dumb crap to set a record.

Well, after spending almost $1,700 of my hard-earned and long saved-up money, the '96 Cadillac Fleetwood is back on the road, just about ready for daily-driver duty this Wednesday (the AURA goes back to the dealer Tuesday night). A new starter assembly, a new fuel pump and strainer, an new idler arm, and four new Kelly Navigator Gold White-Wall tires have been installed by my local repair shop. Add in a AAA Plus Membership (used to tow the car to the shop this past Wednesday (not to mention a jump-start yesterday!) and a full tank of gas and I'm pretty much broke. It runs great, and with the four new tires, their balance & alignment and the new idler arm it rides l…

So I took a trip to visit a couple of my friends who live 85 miles from where I am. Ended up taking the Civic, which my brother drives, because I don't trust the '95 LSS on the highway for that long, and I figured I'd save quite a bit of gas... On the way there I went 80-85 most of the time with a group of cars. The tank wasn't full to begin with and the Civic does not have a mileage calculator onboard, so I have no idea what mileage I got on the way there. However, on the way back I filled up about a mile from the interstate, set the cruise to 61mph (I decided I should cruise at 2000rpm, don't know why I thought that was a good number to pick, just did). I was by myself…

Shirtless Biden Washes Trans Am In White House Driveway WASHINGTON—Taking advantage of the warm spring weather Monday, Vice President Joe Biden parked his 1981 Trans Am in the White House driveway, removed his undershirt, and spent a leisurely afternoon washing the muscle car and drinking beer. "This baby just needs a little scrub down," said Biden, addressing a tour group as he tucked the sweat-covered top into the belt loop of his cutoff jean shorts. "Gotta get her looking good so I can impress the chicks when I'm cruising down Pennsylvania [Avenue]." White House aides said that Biden pulled into the driveway shortly before noon, the chorus of Night Ranger's "y…

What do you suppose you would find, if you were to do some landscaping in your yard? Well, as I've told you guys before, I live in the village of Ramsaytown, not actually Brookville... I just have a Brookville address. Ramsaytown, as I've said, was started as a coal mining town about 200 years ago. Between then and the early 1900s, it had reached its peak and was a full blown town, like Brookville. It had everything that a small town in that era consisted of. Well, shortly after, coal mining which was the heart of this town, basically tore it apart into what it is today. Houses were destroyed or moved and the landscape was torn up. All in the name of greed, from coal mi…

I got a DVD/VCR player combo a couple years ago for Christmas and went to use it today only to find out that the DVD eject motor doesn't work. I've probably only used it 15-20 times since I've owned it because I watch a lot of movies on my laptop. GOD THERE IS SO MUCH USELESS CRAP IN MY KITCHEN!!!! Ok, I'm better now, but this is pretty bad. My fiancee finally got the last of her crap out of her apartment (lease is up the 30th) and brought it over and there is no freaking room for it. Ok, so I also have a quesadilla maker, but now we've got two. And why does she have two melon ballers? I only have one and it has never been used. I have no idea what we're going to do…

Dictionaries have been removed from classrooms in southern California schools after a parent complained about a child reading the definition for "oral sex". Merriam Webster's 10th edition, which has been used for the past few years in fourth and fifth grade classrooms (for children aged nine to 10) in Menifee Union school district, has been pulled from shelves over fears that the "sexually graphic" entry is "just not age appropriate", according to the area's local paper. The dictionary's online definition of the term is "oral stimulation of the genitals". "It's hard to sit and read the dictionary, but we'll be looking to find other things of a graphic nature," district …

Every once in a while, you'll come across a situation that just brings out a special part of you. That f@#king Cutlass. So, this morning for work, I went out to start it like usual. Opened the door, sat in, set the worthless choke, start the engine, and get out. When I close the door, I hear a clunk as it bounces back open. "What the f@#k?!" Try it again, same thing. I inspect the latch and jiggle it a bit, figuring it might not have released completely. Try again. *clunk* Well, isn't that that special. Play with it some more and try again. *clunk* Mind you, it's about 15 degrees out and I have to be at work in 10 minutes. My patience is being tested. I grab a sc…

In a time when people are easily offended by various things, prompting "political correctness" and lawsuits and protests, it's kinda funny that cuss words seem to be more and more "accepted" as the norm, rather than the exception, due to radio, TV, etc.... Weird that I'd think of this, but there are two songs on my playlist that I think would make awesome Wedding Songs (like the song the bride/groom share the first dance with). One is "Into the Mystic" by the Wallflowers (yes, the one from American Wedding haha) and another is "Far Away" by Nickelback. What was/is/will be your wedding song? What do you think some good ones would be? Weird question, I know.

I'm seriously considering a daily driver and one of the cars on my shortlist is the 2015 VW GTI, 4-door, with manual transmission and performance package. I'm yet to test drive it. What I like, on paper, is that the car is a perfect blend of utility (hatch), performance, fun-to-drive, fuel economy, and features. What I hesitate about is VW's reliability and dealer experience. Is this car now made in Mexico, unlike previous iterations that were made in Germany? What I dislike are the options packages. I do not have problems with with getting the S, but I hate the plaid seats. I dislike the panoramic sunroof for SE and Autobahn trims. Tell me more about it. Your thought…

Yes, that horrific clank of metal tearing through metal at the end of the video was a driveshaft jack-knifing it's way through the floorpan of a V6 2011 Mustang, effectively disemboweling the car. Yes, the driver was obviously exceeding the limits of his car and stupidly modified it to do so. YUMA AZ -- In the latest US government handout to big corporations, the US Army is giving a lot of free Sonoran Desert land on the Yuma Proving Ground to General Motors for private development. GM and the Army recently signed a deal to create a joint-use facility on 2,400 acres north of Yuma next to US 95. GM also will get an unspecified amount of land adjacent to this site for its own exclusive use. The facilities will be developed for testing GM's mostly gas-guzzling global warming vehicles. Because it will be on military protected land and under restricted air space, GM is assured of privacy as it develops new Hummers. The Army recently claimed it needed to expan…

If anyone noticed among the quibbling and the politics I decided to take a leave of absence for a little while. My reasons primarily being that the politic engulfed this site (which in and of itself is not a terrible thing), but brought out the ugly side of some members (a bad thing). It's pretty painful to watch just how petty and immature some people got, especially when they are normally level-headed. I decided that with enough issues at home to deal with the last thing I needed was to come to a place that was so disharmonious. I figured I'd comeback after election day to see if it would finally clear up, people would return to their former sense, and we could actua…

I'm in need of locating a new trim part for my wife's '13 Buick LaCrosse and don't want to visit the dealership. The trim part is for the trunk, it's the plastic cover for the right/passenger side hinge, as seen in the attached pictures. We bougth the car a year ago November 7th and the wife pointed out two weekends ago that the trim was missing. Of course the selling dealer (CarSense) said that their warranty ran out at 6 months and I should pursue this with GM/Buick under the balance of the factory warranty (I disagree, as the part's missing it did not break). Anyway, I'd appreciate suggestions on any GM parts online sources.

So I'm parked at night unloading a van, 4 ways on, doors open... and a stupid ass in a BMW SUV drives up behind me trying to make the right turn. I see his turn signal on... and that he has one fog light out. After lots of waving, they finally get a clue and and put the other turn signal on... drive around... I notice the fog light goes out and the other fog light comes on. Finally in front of me, I see the fog light has switched sides again to follow the turn signal. Kind of interesting. Not sure it was that useful, but interesting. Is this a new feature in the BMW X-series? Any other cars have this feature?

It is hard to believe, but my nephew will be 2 years old this November. Watching him grow has been tremendously fun. My favorite story, thus far, happened earlier in June. I went to my sis/bro-in-law’s place to drop off something for my sister. I parked out front in the street and came in the side door by the driveway. As I opened the door, my nephew yelled, “Cort!” [He hasn't quite mastered "Uncle", it comes out ... "Unc ... Unc ... Unclcor"!] I heard my sister say, “How’d you know that was Uncle Cort coming in the house?” A bit later, we found out. As we were talking in the front room, my nephew walked to the front window, pointed, and said, “Cahr…Cort cahr.” …

No, I'm not trying to convert anybody here to communism. I'm just expressing my happiness at going to school in a town full of people with more money than they know what to do with. Why? Because, there are certain people in this world, who, upon breaking one mug, decide that their entire set of dishes is now no good for them. Then I can get the whole set of dishes for $20 at the local thrift store. It even comes with a sugar bowl and creamer cup! I have no idea when I'll ever need a cup for creamer, but it certainly is nice to know I have one around.

Grieving her 11-year-old daughter's suicide Father's brush with police, bullies' taunts and threats to her new puppy gradually sapped a Winnipeg girl of the will to live By JULIUS STRAUSS Friday, October 7, 2005 Page A1 WINNIPEG -- For 11-year-old Kathleen Beardy it was all simply too much. First she watched as her father Kelly was handcuffed and dragged from the family home by two police officers. Then she was forced to endure the seemingly endless taunts of neighbourhood bullies in her tough Winnipeg district. From LX Forums Twas the night before Christmas and caught at the light. Up pulled a rumbling V8, and no cops in sight. I will try, I will try, with this little 4 banger. To beat this damn Magnum, with it's big HEMI motor. As the light goes to green, and I pull like no joke, The Magnum erupts in a big cloud of smoke. So I was out walking this morning, and part of my route is along a road that's outside of my development. I was amazed at the amount of trash people just throw out their car windows... like it's the middle ages or something. A big potato chip bag with half the chips strewn everywhere, coffee and soda cups and bottles, an orange condom, (used, ew) etc. etc... what are people thinking? How can people be so damn TRASHY? I sincerely hope everyone here takes their trash home and sticks it in the wastebasket.

It's been a rainy, cool cloudy week here in the desert...nice change from the usual. This afternoon on one block in Scottsdale I saw an eclectic mix of cars parked on and off the street. A battered late model white Bentley Continental GT, a worn, tattered red LaForza SUV (haven't seen one of those in ages), a new Chevy City Express van in HVAC repair livery, a black Audi A8, a clean brown and tan mid '80s Ford Bronco, and a sharp silver '65 Olds Jetstar 1 coupe I've seen around for years...

I've wanted to go to one of these events for the longest time...and finally this year I caught it 5 months ahead of time and had it on my calendar ever since. This weekend at Citizens Bank Park in Philly, the GM Main Street in Motion test drive event. Hot, sunny and breezy day today, PERFECT timing. Got there around 10am, to the site of Chevy Volt after Volt driving down the street and on a loop--the Volt was the one vehicle they had a large number of, and had preset a test route out of the track and onto the local streets for every test. Registration quick & easy, I hit the GMC truck & comparo tent first, right past the entry. Yukon Denali Hybrid, Sierra 2500HD…

My wife's 'ex'-car is an '03 Pontiac GP SE. 3.1L. We bought it in '05 with 29K for $13K. When she upgraded to a new '09 Malibu 2LT, we debated selling the GP, but held onto it as an errand/spare car. My older son got his license in early '11. This year he's been working 5 days/wk & driving the GP. He also has an active social schedule. I believe it has right about 139K on it. It has really been an excellent car as far as reliability goes. Batteries, tires, brakes, and I did the A/C condenser & compressor last spring. Other than the radio LED window being blank, it's been trouble free and money well spent, IMO. Last night my son accidentally ran into t…

As some of you may know I posted a thread recently about the Riviera needing a transmission. The the day I got the car back the water pump went and ripped my belt to pieces. The grand total was roughly $3800. Now Monday night while driving on the interstate going about 65MPH my car shuts off. I coast to the shoulder and wait 2 and a half hours for a tow truck. Have the car towed 14 miles with my friend's AAA, and still pay $90 for the tow, and now for the good news. I just got a call from the shop telling me I need a engine. The car makes a very loud knocking noise and keeps shutting off. So now he's gonna get some quotes on an engine. I'm sitting here in absolute…

I just looked on the Toronto Craigslist and Toronto Kijiji and I found 2 interesting cars. One, a 1987 Pontiac Firebird Formula and a 1989 Buick Lesabre T-Type. Both equal in price and both need body work and some other work. Firebird needs interior work and the Lesabre needs brake work. The seats would eventually need to be reupholstered since the leather shows its age but isn't ripped. WHat do you think? I really love the Lesabre T-Type but would it be worth restoring in the long run? Here are the links to the listings. 1989 Lesabre T-Type 1987 Firebird Formula

Went to the doctor today, again. Man, this is getting annoying. Some background. Last year, Tammy literally drug me into the doctor's office because I was in real bad shape. Turns out it was a good thing, I had pneumonia, was getting over the flu, and was developing a bad case of sinusitis. Anyway, as I was getting over that, the doctor noticed I was rubbing my hands. So, it is with great concern that I must address this issue publicly. An automaker, who should know better, has a vehicle that is beginning to develop rust bubbles at just three years of age. This automaker is Ford and the vehicle in question is Josh's 2013 Escape. Is it just me or is that not a decade too soon for this sort of thing? As for background, the vehicle has obviously lived in the salt-ridden world of Pennsylvania for the majority of its life–as have each and every one of our other vehicles over the years. It should also be stated that, in his ownership, its been washed at least bi-weekly. He takes better care of his vehicles than I do, he's excessively OC…
