It needs work but I am trying to give my teacher ideas for a custom Dakota. For our next school project, he wants to rice up a Civic so I need something that could turn him away from that. What motors would fit? I was thinking something bigger than a 350. A 454 would be interesting but would it fit? One could be easily pulled from an older pickup around here. Just give me suggestions as to what may fit or what would work nicely. GM motors as well as Mopar suggestions would both work. My idea is to lower it, rear disc brak…

  6. May 10, 2007 - In an outbreak reminiscent of the early stages of SARS and bird flu, pigs are growing sick and dying across China’s southeastern Guangdong province. Roughly 3,000 pigs have been infected on hundreds of family farms and about 300 have died. Early reports from Chinese scientists attribute the outbreak to porcine respiratory and reproductive syndrome (PRRS), which first appeared 18 years ago and was originally called Mystery Swine Disease. But certain symptoms of the current outbreak, including massive hemorrhaging, are not consistent with PRRS, and might indicate that the disease—most likely caused by a virus—has mutated. The outbreak has renewed fears that a…

I saw a commercial once for a product called the Perfect Pushup, and then forgot about it for a while until I saw it in Wal-Mart for $20. A buddy of mine had it and liked it, so I decided to try it out since it was on sale (usually $40). It's probably been the best twenty bucks I've spent; it's durable and I have actually seen results with it. I use it almost every day and had added about 2 or 3 inches to the circumference of my arms and my whole upper body is toned. I've been using it for about 7 months now. Even if it broke …

Okay, so here's the deal. My father and I have been watching NHRA drag racing on television for about as long as I can remember. I was over his house tonight and we were watching a short half-hour show that featured a few old races from a national event in the early 80's. After the show was over, my father started saying how cool it would be if he were able to buy old races on DVD. So when I got home, I searched for such DVDs online and, just as I suspected, there was virtually nothing to be found. So now it's up to me to find them in whatever format they may be in and put them on DVD. So for any of you fans out there that remember the days of TNN, American Sports Cavalca…

Natural disasters—fire in Russia and flood in Pakistan, which are the world’s fifth- and eighth-largest wheat producers respectively—have added a Biblical colouring to an unfolding fear of famine. Interiors are one of the bigger determinants of perception. Someone gets in an interior that impresses them and they think they are in a car made to higher standards, or a more expensive car. In GM's case, the interiors are REALLY far behind the competition. It's a glaring ommission that really adds to the perception that there cars are inferior. That being said, the purpose of this thread is not to harp, but to introduce ideas for GM. What are the interior designs you really like from around the world? What interior themes do you feel are appropriate for each of GM's brands. In a perfect world, GM will have interiors that represent what each brand stands for, and the…

(No, your alternate universe self can't be a millionaire celebrity. Realistic entries only!)

  67. Impulse purchase to help ease the pain... Been f@#king stressed and depressed for the past month or so...don't know why. Yesterday I was in a $h!ty mood...Watching Indy and ALMS with my dad brought my mood up a little bit, but I was still pretty down. My buddy picked up an RC car the other day which quickly refueled my desire for one...I've always wanted one, but never really pursued it too much. I figured now was as good a time as ever to pick one up...to pick me up. So I did.

  70. By Diane Sweet 9/21/08 8:01 PM Republican presidential hopeful Sen. John McCain started out his day-long Michigan visit last week with a surprise stop at an Oakland County General Motors Corp. plant. McCain toured GM’s Lake Orion assembly plant that makes Chevy Malibus and Pontiac G6s. With his wife Cindy McCain by his side, McCain shook hands with plant workers. But he met some opposition. I doubt the McCain’s will be visiting the GM plant again anytime soon. Driving home from work today, I was passed by a late model Camry..painted medium metallic Subaru blue, with a big assed wing, STI stickers, a fart can exhaust, SUBARU decals on the windshield and sides, and a body kit. ...and yes it was a Camry, not the current WRX Amazing. One can only hope this was a movie stunt car for stand in duty for someone smart enough not to destroy a real WRX. Chris

POLITICAL POWERLESSNESS... Aaaaahhhhhgggg! I cannot wait until the elections are over. I'm sssooo tired of the political mailings with messages directed at FAMILIES. Whenever I read "you and your family" or some resemblance thereof, I immediately send the mailing to the circular file. The best example of this was a mailing I received earlier this week. It started out innocent enough with this sentence: "Our research shows that you, Cort XXXX, are the type of voter that candidate XXXX aims to support." I was intrigued, so I kept reading ... partially because the mailing featured a pie chart/graph and some photos. Near the end of it, though, I came across this se…

Today, six were laid off from our firm of about 65 people. Nobody saw it coming and we were all in shock for most of the day. Our work load has been pretty full lately but six months down the road we will start slowing down very quickly since no new projects are coming in...schools, universities, and businesses are putting everything on hold. If things continue to worsen, we may have a second round of lay offs and that's what makes me nervous, because I'm young and still don't have much experience yet. The partners talked to us today in a conference and said that the lay offs are a precaution to ensure we will be profitable in 2009, even though our work load is pretty…

  75. Someone at work comes by and says "Hey, did you hear about that lady who had octuplets?" I asked where and they said "So Cal, around Whittier or Bellflower." I Googled this and saw that (1) she already had 6 kids, (2) she is a single mom, and (3) she had to have embryos implanted to pull this off. I read that the latter item on this list is considered very uncool among gynecologists when a family already has a certain number of kids. Unbelievable. This woman has got to be a pimple on California's ass. Just think of the money to pay for the education, health care and possible incarceration of some of these kids downstream. And some people who want just ONE kid, ha…

I closed on my new house today. All went pretty smoothly. Only 20 miles from my current house, but bigger, one story, much more storage and garage space, almost 2 acres. I’ll be busy the next month or so moving in and then putting my current house up for sale. Icky weather today though. 34 and sleet.

[source: MSN] 'Missing link' primate likely to stir debate Scientists announce 47 million-year-old find amid media hoopla A discovery of a 47 million-year-old fossil primate that is said to be a human ancestor was announced and unveiled Tuesday at a press conference in New York City. Known as "Ida," the nearly complete transitional fossil is 20 times older than most fossils that provide evidence for human evolution. It shows characteristics from the very primitive non-human evolutionary line (prosimians, such as lemurs), but is more related to the human evolutionary line (anthropoids, such as monkeys, apes and humans), s…

So, with my paycheck here and the Olds motor leaving at the end of the week, I'll have enough cash to buy either one of these two cars. 1986 Pontiac Firebird, 5.0L V8 with 113K miles (swapped from an '85 Camaro), runs and drives, needs some mild bodywork, paint, and a home: http://lexington.craigslist.org/cto/1465976167.html 1979 Pontiac Firebird "Redbird Edition", no motor or transmission, needs bodywork and paint, usable interior: Now, if I buy the '79 Firebird, I'll be putting a 403 in it which I can pick up for $150 bucks. I could save that money easy, maybe keep the TH350-R I have, and put it on the road while I do the bodywork. Because Re…

My little dog passed away today. Meggie was fifteen years, 3 months old to the day. I got her in October, 1990. She was the runt, but I saw a puppy full of life and energy. She gave me infinite joy over the years. I have no idea what I'm going to do now. She was my constant companion her whole life. She slept with me each night. I'm lost, and numb right now. I love her and I miss her, always.

I didn't expect to get Best In Show, but I'll certainly take it! Now on to other cars there. There were two other Studes at the show, both Gran Turismo Hawks. This one is a 1964. They were as ahead of their time as the Avanti was.
