1. Started by Cory Wolfe,

For the past few months I've been strongly considering getting a second job. At my current one, management keeps reducing the Pharmacy hours and since I'm on the bottom, I'm the one taking most of the hit. For a while there, when the one girl quit, I was getting near full time hours. I was happy about that despite still being stuck at my rather paltry wages. Now I'm down around half that and it's really not worth it for all the more I make. However, in 3 or 4 months, my benefits start. I don't want to give those up. So this is where a second job would come in, essentially giving me the hours I want and putting me over 40 hours a week. I could really use the extra income. …

I admit it, I am a complete caffeine addict. Coffee is ok, but nothing gets me going like a nice, unhealthy Rockstar or Rumba, or if I can find it, some Bawls. Like cocaine, only available at gas stations. But today I had a weird experience, I drank my usual mornign Rockstar, and afterwards I was extremely jittery and restless, which never happens to me. I didn't crash either, just kinda slowed back down to normal. It was weird and kinda freaky. I think I'm gonna cut back now.

My fiancee finally got the last of her crap out of her apartment (lease is up the 30th) and brought it over and there is no freaking room for it. I'd be more than happy to make room, but its stupid, useless $h!. Who the hell buys a "Margaritaville Frozen Concotion Maker" (aka a less useful blender) or a Smoothie maker (aka a really useless blender) or a Quesadilla maker? Ok, so I also have a quesadilla maker, but now we've got two. And why does she have two melon ballers? I only have one and it has never been used. I have no idea what we're going to do…

LOL, James is rockin' the 'goatfield' about the same length as mine now in the clips. The Quietus <--- Says a lot of truths about the band but isn't fair about the Load era (I loved the Loads and even St. Anger when taken into context) and BTW, I don't think the Red Hot Chili Peppers (as horrible as they are) ever really needed any help. On second thought, this review is pretty much pure $h!, claiming that "Load" almost finished MetallicA in 1996. Whatever…

I know most people are poo-pooing the 3.8, but inside this car, you can barely hear it at all. Also, when at highway speeds, the car barely goes over 2,000 RPMs which keeps the car rather quiet. Inside the car, there is plenty of head room, the gauges are nice, the wheel with the radio and cruise controls is a nice feature, but there is no AUX/IPOD jack in the radio, which peeved me as I could not hook up my IPOD or Stilletto2 Sirius radio. I loved the seat with the power adjustment/lumbar. My mileage through highway traffic and San Francisc…

Due to some personal issues, I've been having trouble sleeping as of late and this nightmare certainly didn't help matters. In the nightmare, gas prices were nearing the $10/gallon mark, and people with cars averaging less than 25 mpg were terrorized and threatened, while their offending vehicle(s) were beaten up and set ablaze before their very eyes. That included me ... I was forced to watch all 5 of my MCs "burned at the stake". Oddly, the radio on in the background was not playing music…

It's finally come around, not just that I've pondered doing it, but that I'm selling the Fleetwood and moving on to something newer, much smaller, more efficient, etc. For the longest time (and to keep the finances smiling), the idea was something new but used (and quite a bit so) that fulfilled the smaller and more economical but that could be another cash purchase. Think late 90's Accord, and you'll have gotten the drift. Then that went, well, sort of to the side. I graduated college and while not yet making huge money yet or in a dream job, I'm working with a great company at home for the time being and am making a nice chunk. This is kind of a spin-off from a comment in the thread discussing the interest in Hummer by a couple companies from India: What would it take for GM to merge some brands? Take the whole clustering of brands (Buick-Pontiac-GMC for example) to the next level, and have them share a corporate shell and legal entity. Let's call it "GM Specialties" for now. Some thoughts: + Dealerships would have a contract with "GM Specialties", not the specific brands contained within. A Specialties dealership (auto boutique?) could order (or not order) any product from the Specialties' included brands, maybe with some requirements/standards as to how the products are displayed …

Why the change? Realizing that it cost us $50 to fill up the AURA and $65 to fill up the Envoy last Friday, she wants to get something more affordable and, more importantly, will aid in saving additional $$$ in our bank account and not spent at the gas station. We just recently test-drove the all-new 2009 Pontiac Vibe GT FWD and she likes that a lot. My new apartment faces the Cedar River and every day I have been watching the flooding going on around here. The road I take to work will be flooded over sometime Monday and apparently levels may reach those of the Flood of '93. Parts of downtown Des Moines are flooded and Iowa City is starting to sandbag. There are stretches of fields along rivers that have become huge lakes in Eastern Iowa. The good news is that after the Flood of '93, a lot of cities built earth berms along their rivers so hopefully if we have another 500 year flood it won't be so devastating.

They had a F-4U fly in formation with a F-18. that takes some skill there. Then the F-18 did a mach .98 fly by. Also had a B-25 flyby. Crazy stuff. I cant wait till next year. Figured I'd share the doings of mine from the past month.

  69. So, I just had a thought pop into my mind: Imagine the future of the V8 as this: 4.0L, twin-turbo, SIDI, 500+HP. How, you ask? Stick two 2.0L SIDI Ecotecs together and that's what you have. I don't know if that would work, but it seems plausible enough. It would deliver pretty good fuel mileage as well, I think. Image the other possibilities, too. The same HP/L (130 is what the 2.0 gets, but lets use 125) out of a 3.0L would yield 375 screaming ponies. A 3.5L would make 435HP... and so on... I think you can do the math easily enough. With forced induction being the wave of the future, IMO, I think we could see "big" V6s drop down to the 2.8-3.2L range from the curr…

  73. Brent Saba had just dropped a church group off at Philadelphia International Airport on Sunday morning and was heading north on Interstate 95 when it happened: His 15-passenger van ran out of gas. Saba, a 24-year-old church pastor, made it to the shoulder just past the Ben Franklin Bridge and waited more than 30 minutes for someone to stop and lend him a cell phone. Then he waited a while longer for AAA to arrive with fuel. With gas prices hovering at $4 a gallon, motorists like Saba are putting less fuel in their tanks — then coming up empty on the highway. Though national statistics on out-of-gas motorists don't exist, there's plenty of anecdotal evidence that dri…

But Penn and Teller have a show on Showtime called "Bull$h!" where they debunk popular social assertions, the supernatural etc.. well they devoted a half hour to environmental hysteria. There's a dusting of profanity, so put those headphones on! It's certainly a very entertaining show! 75. WASHINGTON - From higher electric bills to more expensive gasoline, the possible economic cost of tackling global warming is driving the debate as climate change takes center stage in Congress. Legislation set for Senate debate Monday would require a reduction in carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases from power plants, refineries, factories and transportation. The goal is to cut heat-trapping pollution by two-thirds by midcentury. With gasoline at $4 per gallon and home heating and cooling costs soaring, it is getting harder to sell a bill that would transform the country's energy industries and — as critics will argue — cause energy prices to rise even more. Se…

This spring, America hit a historic point. With average gas prices per gallon edging toward $4, America's notoriously profligate ways started to change fast. Americans are driving less, using mass transit more, buying fewer gas guzzlers, indeed shopping less wantonly in general, and lowering their previously unshakable confidence as consumers. Suddenly, Americans are acting differently; if not exactly like Swedes, then not quite like themselves, either. It's a shift that could change the world. And there are more changes to come. So far the price shock has triggered the most obvious consumer shifts in the United States. Europeans, already greener, are also are buffered …

  79. I have seen a total of 3 GM ads since I've came back to the USA 9 days ago. The sad thing is, one was for the the Cadillac Escalade, the other was for the GMC Acadia, both these ads were on TV, the other add I saw was for the Pontiac G8, it was an internet ad. These are not the vehicles GM needs to be pushing in the days of 4 bucks a gallon gas, which is surely to go higher. They should be showing ads that show GM vehicles that get 30 mpg or more, once again GM shoots itself in the foot.

curse got me again. about 6 months since the last time. was driving. sudden massive hailstorm. big effing hail chunks. golf ball size and greater. so dense you could not see. it was like driving into gunfire or hundreds of folks banging on your car with hammers. frightening actually. my wife was the one driving. she actually managed to get it parked under part of an overpass to avoid a lot of hits. still the front and roof were getting raped. we drove again for a bit and then had to park again. one lady parked next to us and got out of her Japanese $h!hbox (CRV). her windshield was toast and she was moaning about all her dents. my wind…

  82. Not sure why, but I was struck today to grab the camera in the sunny heat and just take pictures of our car conglomeration. Too bad only a few were cleaned, and mine was covered (hah...prepping for the storm that hit soon after), but still interesting. Why? Especially now with gas prices, micro cars, etc., the whole driveway is still FULL of old GM boats, all daily drivers--with the one pretty new face of Malibu just standing out like the Suburban before it never did. Looks almost like land of the lost. First some overalls...and again, why I didn't do this before I put my car cover on, who knows.

What if small groups in a given locale were to form cooperatives to support small scale ethanol production from local feedstocks? Say, for example, a local car club splits the cost of running a small scale facility with paid staff and the equiptment required to produce enough fuel for all of the members on a non-profit basis? Just a thought. :AH-HA_wink: ...at least for now.

I wrecked my Sierra today in the rain. Not nearly as bad as last time, thankfully. I cannot believe it, I'm in shock still, I guess. After leaving the BPG dealership to get an oil change/tire rotation, I was traveling on a double-lane road, in the left lane there was a guy ahead of me going really slow, like he was on his cell phone. I went to pass him in the right lane, the truck suddenly fishtailed out of control, I fishtailed 3 or 4 times (raining heavily at the time) but I couldn't hold it, I tagged a stinkin' 90 Jetta in the passenger front door... driver's side front corner of my truck, same as before, then I spun completely around and crunched the curb with my…

Its just how do you find who owns it and how do you approach them to buy their car? camera phones suck i know. you can make it out at the edge. I want to almost steal it. it has a sad puppy face on it too like its neglected. The last thing i need is another car but I want it.

(him) No (me) Its like West Virginia, without the class (him) Ouch, West Virginia is known for being pretty poor (me) I almost moved back to Chicago a few years ago (him) I liked Chicago, but…

  96. Germany in call for ban on oil speculation Link: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/money/main.jhtm...26/cnoil126.xml German leaders are to propose a worldwide ban on oil trading by speculators, blaming the latest spike in crude prices on manipulation by hedge funds. It is the most drastic proposal to date amid escalating calls from Europe, the US and Asia for controls on market forces, underscoring the profound shift in the political climate since the credit crunch began. India has already suspended futures trading of five commodities. Uwe Beckmeyer, transport chief for Germany's Social Democrats, said his party would call for joint measures by the G8 powers to prohibit …

Professor Flannery says climate change is happening so quickly that mankind may need to pump sulphur into the atmosphere to survive.
