Since moving to Philly and working with Acura, I've been demo driving for several months and parked the Mazda. Already miss it, but a payment when it's never used and a free new car is part of my pay didn't make sense...so away the CX-9 went to a new home in the suburbs, to a couple who specifically (and luckily for me, as it was tough) wanted FWD and nothing to do with AWD, trading a 1999 Sienna. So since there is not much auto news going on lets do something fun besides arguing why brand X is better than brand Y Since the economy is tanking and hard times are coming for everyone, lets do the dream car garage on the budget. Here are the rules: Choose five cars/trucks you will spend up to $20k. Which means each car/truck should not cost over $20k. Give up to 5 choices and say which one, out of the five you would choose now with your own money.

Make it to 100,000 miles in your vehicle, and the car company might make a commercial about you. That makes 93-year-old Rachel Veitch a notable exception. Veitch is retiring her 1964 Mercury Comet Caliente after more than 576,000 miles on the road. "I am legally blind, so I can no longer drive my lovely Chariot," Veitch told FoxNews.com. This is mainly about my car, but also how much my life sucks in general right now. For those who may not remember or care (then don't bother reading the rest of this post), Wednesday was the day I bought my very first car, my Dodge Intrepid (Friday I took delivery of it). To celebrate, I planned to give it a thorough cleaning inside and out, especially since we were going to take it to my cousin's for Thanksgiving. However, since it was cold, raw, and kind of rainy out, I just couldn't get up the energy to go do it. So instead I got up early Thursday morning, and after baking my famous (in the family circle) Pumpkin Pie, I took it to the car wash and cleaned it inside a…

Guys, its been too long since I've really been able to get on here, but now I've got the chance to get on at least once a day and keep up. With the new job (service advisor at the local DCX dealership), and an almost 2 year old in the house things have been pretty hectic around my homestead. I'll do my best to continue my steadfast posts in the technical section and try for everywhere else too! That and well, I'll see what I can do as far as information on DCX stuff, since I work at one now...

First, is the parking brake supposed to work? :P Seriously... My yard is on a hill if anyone noticed from some of my pics. The driveway is level. However, today I washed and waxed my GA. Since the driveway needs re-graveled, my GA gets filthy just sitting there when it rains. So I parked it in the yard.. and set the parking brake. Well, I like to sit in it and listen to music sometimes. I was doing that last night. I ended up messing around and pressed in the clutch... *surprise* it starts rolling back. It now sits 3ft from where it was originally. I wasn't expecting that... So, this is nice to know... Second, how do I remove the badges? Or, should I even do it wit…

I don't know if anyone else does this, but I'm pretty observant when watching movies...especially when it comes to filming locations. Tonight I was watching Halloween I. The movie is supposed to take place in a fictional town called Haddonfield, Illinois. Yet two scenes are shot at different schools, both the open-air type you see in places like California where there is a mild climate. That would never fly in Illinois during the middle of the winter. Second, in the scene where the doctor is headed to Haddonfield, you can see these gigantic mountains in the background. News flash: Illinois doesn't have mountains! Same thing with Stephen King's "The Stand." There …

WHAT IF: GM had fully and properly engineered the Oldsmobile 5.7L diesel V8? Where would diesel powered vehicles be in terms of sales percentage today? I believe that Americans would have bought a lot more of them, which would have led to evolution of the technology for economy and performance. Diesel power would have owned a very large percentage of the U.S. market to this day, as it has in Europe. BUT... we all know how it was handled and were we are today. What do you all think?

  81. Time for a new 'WYR' installment. The unloved-by-many Praning Horse halo supercar is beginning to be looked upon more fondly these days. In a world of hybrid hyper cars, the sharp, less digital approach to mega speed inevitably has begun to win over more fans. That said, 650ish horsepowers ain't so much anymore, not in a world of muscle cars, luxury sedans, and even SUV's touting similar or larger numbers. There's a who's who of supercars with over 600hp these days, and one of the most powerful is the new Aventador SV. Looking as much like a F Zero racer and stealth fighter hybrid as much it does a car, it has all the drama and aggressiveness one associates with L…

I'm probably not too far off at this rate... While I've loved my Legacy Turbo, it's becoming a bit of a burden. It's hard on insurance, even harder on gas, and hasn't been holding up as well as I had hoped. It's a great car with a performance pedigree (if you ignore the soft suspension, anyways), and It's likely to be my favorite over time. With that said, it has some faults that I overlooked originally. The most notable has to be the aforementioned gas mileage with my average often hanging bel…

I have also thought about some friends (both male and female) who turned out to be either plain idiots or self-centered. The male friends I can think of that I have parted ways with were based on the fact that they wanted me to: (1) bail them out of something financially, or (2) they got married and this made the friendship go south in a hurry because their wives evidently set their social calendar. The female friends I can think of that I have parted ways with either: (1) liked me more than I liked them and wan…

  93. Today was my parents' 23rd anniversary so they went out to have a nice day for themselves. Since the HHR has continued to develop more mysterious unhealthy noises, they had been thinking about potential replacements, with a Focus hatchback high on the list. So during their driving about they stopped at a Ford dealer just to look around. The dealer had no Focii in stock and did not know when they would get any more, so my parents test drove a couple others, an Escape and an Edge. Long story short, they promptly traded the HHR for a black 2012 Ford Escape.

So, in your travels, have you ever seen a driveway with two totally opposite vehicles parked in it? I mean, you could figure, say, a Fusion and an F-150, for example, or a Cavalier and an S-10 Blazer. I was leaving my mom's place the other night and saw a shiny gray G3. And their second car, the one no one wants to drive? A black GLK. Post your discordant driveway sightings in this here thread right here then.

  98. Boeing just announced another major delay in their launch of the new 787 Dreamliner...a single-story twin-aisle versatile jetliner that replaces the 757/767 combo. These will be able to service LA to Denver....or LA to London. The concept is great. However, they have halted the production of the fuselage for re-design. I am wondering: - is the snag in their all-over-the-map production scheme? - or is it in the revolutionary change to composites? I don't think the first 747 saw this kind of bumbling. Pan Am signed the launch customer agreement in 1966 and its historic flight took place in Feb. 1969. Have you been following the 787 Dreamliner saga?

  99. Started by Caprice SS,

looking on the AutoTrader website I happened to come across a 2005 Cobalt SS SC lease takeover for only $234 per month. I was astonished as I didn't expect a car this nice for anything less than $350 per month, even when leased. I am not worried about the requirement for 91+ octane because I found out that instead of creating a price war by selling cheaper gas, some stations sell 90, 92 and 94 for the prices of 87, 89 and 91 respectively. My budget is pretty tight right now, so I will need a part-time job to pay for it. However, I do have quite a bit of free time. I have one simple question for you guys: Should I go for it?
