Post what your own personal automotive Holy Grail is here; include pictures and a background story if you'd like I would recommend that you post no more than one vehicle per catergory... so that would mean one holy grail car/CUV/Minivan, one holy grail truck/SUV, one holy grail motorcycle, one holy grail airplane, etc. (you get the point )

I'm here to gather opinions. One day last week, my father took his Ram Express into a local dealer to have the oil changed. To make a longer story extremely brief and short, it's likely been overfilled. The oil is almost two to three quarters of the way up the dipstick and way past "max". There is obvious blue smoke coming from the exhaust and there is black build-up on the chrome exhaust tips. The dealer has been contacted and said that they find this "hard to believe" although the evidence is concrete. What would you demand the dealer do?

It's an idea I'm considering (as are my parents) My dad has a 2003 base Venture, which is in pretty good shape (about 50k on it) My mom plans on getting an Arcadia this spring, and my dad plans on taking the her Astro, due to the fact he just not happy with his Venture. It doesn't have issues, as my dad simply doesn't care for it any more. They were considering trading it in for the Arcadia, but they are going to get killed on trade in, as these vans can be had pretty cheap around here. (I've found more than a few near new under 10k) I figure if they are going to take a hit (not really, it's almost paid off), why not sell it to their son? I'd be looking at a…

The video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tf3Rw8VW3aE...2D2%2C00%2Ehtml And the aftermath: Top Gear Offends Malaysians Alison Godfrey 5 April 2007 www.news.com.au Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson has offended Malaysians with his latest stunt on the cult automotive show. In the latest episode of the show in the UK, Clarkson labelled one of the country's cars the "worst in the world" and "unimaginative junk, with no soul, no flair and no passion". He then attacked the Perodua Kelisa with a sledgehammer and hung it from a crane with a one-tonne weight attached before blowing it up. It's not the first time that Clarkson has voiced his frustrations with Perodua. In an a…

So when will GM update all their sites with the 2008 model info. I know for a fact that 08s are on dealer lots and more are arriving daily. Wouldn't you think that they would have their new info on the sites rolled out already so people can start shopping or researching for new car/truck/crossover? Can someone enlighten me...thanks.

On the way to work on Thursday morning, 8/23/07, I spotted a couple interesting IL license plates: MINI HUM ... on a Honda Element, which had an "H3" graphic on the rear end (and) BMW AT 40 ... on a Pontiac Grand Am GT Didn't see either one on the way home, though I wasn't paying much attention due to the torrential downpours ... followed by the extensive flooding around town and the house ... and somewhat in our basement.... I had a houseful for Christmas.. . . so many that I escaped to the computer room and locked the door. Family is nice and all, but too much is too much. My aunt and uncle came in town. They are staunch republicans from Illinois, and while I don't hold that against them they do not like the gay folks. I opened my home to them thinking they would be respectful to me, my children, and everyone else. I was wrong. I was treated disrespectfully on numerous occasions and in front of others. My kids were called bastard children and I was accused of populating the world with maladjusted children. While I do not mind others to have an opinion about certain aspects of our soc…

http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/10/la-time...ear-i/#comments NBC is inching closer to finalizing the cast for the American version of the hit BBC series Top Gear, but it looks more and more like Jay Leno, Jerry Seinfeld and Tim Allen won't be part of the program. Reportedly to be called just "Gear", the show is anticipated to include four presenters instead of the BBC's three – although one could be assuming the role of The Stig as the show's test driver. Adam Carolla announced on his radio show that he'd be taking part in the program. Formula D driftmaster Tanner Faust is also tipped to be on the show (possibly in the aforementioned test driver role). However Dan Neil,…

Frustrated Owner Bulldozes Home Ahead Of Foreclosure Like many people, Terry Hoskins has had troubles with his bank. But his solution to foreclosure might be unique. Hoskins said he's been in a struggle with RiverHills Bank over his Clermont County home for nearly a decade, a struggle that was coming to an end as the bank began foreclosure proceedings on his $350,000 home. "When I see I owe $160,000 on a home valued at $350,000, and someone decides they want to take it – no, I wasn't going to stand for that, so I took it down," Hoskins said. TEEN DRIVER CRASHES POSE GREATEST THREAT TO OTHER ROAD USERS, ACCORDING TO AAA FOUNDATION ANALYSIS AAA Auto Club South To Focus Advocacy Efforts on Strengthening Florida’s Teen Driver Safety Law TAMPA, FL (January 18) - The majority of people killed in teen driver crashes are people other than the teen drivers themselves, according to a recent analysis of ten years of crash data by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety. The new analysis shows that young novice drivers comprise slightly more than one-third of all the fatalities in crashes in which they are involved; whereas nearly two-thirds of those killed are other vehicle users and pedestrians. Credit first must be given to ToniCipriani for his thread on a "Saturn Astra" trademark that GM has recently registered: http://www.cheersandgears.com/forums/index...view=getnewpost I decided to do some snooping on the site he cited and this is what I found so far: -Nissan Motors has recently registered the names "G37", "FX37", and "M37" for its Infiniti brand. This pretty much is a confirmation of the rumor of the size of Nissan's new VQ (or VQ-derived) V6 engine. Now we just have to see if the 330hp claims are also true. -Toyota Motors last summer reigstered "LX520", "LX550", "LX570" and "LX600". Obviously, they're not going to use all of these but based on the new …

I've been to Pensacola FL many times. I like to go in the shoulder season and mid-week when it's still warm and not too crowded. I may be getting a free ticket on Southwest. Since I have no other vices and I'm cheap, this is the only area where I spend money. I'm looking at their route map and it looks like I could get fairly close to South Padre Island, TX. Not at ALL interested in going when college students are around, so I will pick another quieter time. After all, it's for R & R. Anybody been? Is it nice? Clean, warm water? Good food? What's there to do?

OK, this is getting ridiculous. Coming home from work yesterday, traffic was slowing as is normal during rush hour. I was in the fast lane, having just slowed from 60+ miles per hour to about five. I didn't even see it coming behind me - a woman in a white 96 Maxima didn't notice that traffic had slowed, and plowed into the back of a Land Rover Discovery, who must have been right on my tail. He smashed into my car, and dazed, I rolled into the guy in front of me: This is the guy who hit me. Not too bad - he did break his washer fluid resovoir: This is what he did to me: And this is from me hitting the guy in front of me. The nose of my car is actually n…

1957 was a great year for cars...Ford outsold Chevrolet, Chevrolet introduced its legendary Bel Air, a few companies introduced fuel-injection to American cars, and Chrysler reached a peak in styling with the Forward Look. Especially nice were the '57 Imperial and De Soto Adventurer convertibles. Check out these two '75s going up for sale soon...the Imperial was even owned by Howard Hughes at one point. My cousin was driving us back from a movie in their Taurus when an old lady pulled up beside us in a 98 Camry on the highway. My cousin for fun decided to hit the gas to try to pass her a bit and see if she would race. Then she nails her gas and she flew by us like we were standing still and we were doing 80. In a couple minutes we couldn't even see her. Funny thing was both cars had handicapped license plates.

I haven't started many threads here, although I've been lurking around for 18 months or so. But something happened two days ago that I have been stewing about since. I have been selling Chevrolet for 9 years. Shortly after I started at the store I am at now, we got a new (to us) New Car Manager. This man was nearing retirement age and had been in the buisness, started as a mechanic, then in sales at a Cadillac store, for 30 years. He emigrated from Scotland with nothing and by the time of his death about 2 years ago was worth a few milliion, to be sure. Do Something about it? (link) I've been having recent fantacies of driving my new Camaro, but dread the idea of the possibility that I might have to install a front license plate on it. So... I came up with an idea of replacing the front plate with a decal that could go on the windshield, and thought I'd research CA law for $h!s-n-giggles to see exactly why a front plate is required and if such a decal idea would work. Well... I didn't find that information, because I ran into the above link (petition) instead. Who knows if the petition is worth it, or if it's even legit, but I wouldn't mind getting rid of the stupid law!

Here's the situation: Recently my catalytic converter started to go. It's made me start thinking... the car is 15 years old, runs VERY well, but there are a million and one "little" things wrong with it, and the body isn't in the best shape--the paint job is HORRIBLE, and there are some signs of rust in the wheel wells as well as around the door frames. The interior gets wet when it rains because seals are going, and the dash is cracked in half from when my radio was ripped out. The fuel gauge isn't accurate, the transmission gauge isn't either (not that it matters, you know what gear you're in by how many clicks you shift the stalk). Things in the trunk get wet and …

The "Worst Case Scenario" thread brought back a memory of a TV show that I thought you might all be interested in. FOG was mentioning that it shouldn't be hard to retrofit cars to run on hydrogen. Turns out he's right, as long as the car is carburetted. The show Mythbusters was testing methods of saving fuel. You've all seen the crappy infomercials, so they were testing if any of these products were actually worth money. To test, they had an early 90's Accord, representing fuel injected cars, and a late 70s Oldsmobile Omega, representing carburetted cars. They tried all the fuel saving methods on both cars, and they all failed, some even made the mileage worse. Then the…

NOTES 1 ... This is a "woa, can ya believe so many years have past since...?" topic/thread. 2 ... I'm not even sure exactly WHY I'm sharing this, but maybe we'll find out.... Every now and then, an anniversary will hit, and, when you realize just how many years have gone by and what all has happened since that event, you pause for a moment ... and wonder just where has the time gone. It was a shock to me ... a shy guy who had FEW friends and was so NOT popular. Of course, as it most-often does, time has eased t…

Understand politics a little bit? I don't feel like researching, but I'd like to learn a little more UNBIASED information about politics. Where do Democrats and Republicans usually differ? I know Dems are tree humpers and Reps typically will go to war much quicker than a Dem. I honestly don't know hardly anything about this stuff and I wish I did since I can vote now. I also have to look up the people running.. whose all running to be Dem and to be Rep right now? Isn't it basically between Obama and Clinton right now for Democrats? And I only know of McCain running for Republican... Somebody, please, enlighten me.

I will start off with my sign in name and it's easy once you see my prferred mode of transportation. Rest assured whenever the guy is short on attention he has to rear that freakishly ugly mug of his and expose us all to his incurable diarrhea of the mouth. Michael Moore Posthumously Hates Roger, Wants GM To Die Monday, June 1st, 2009 Goodbye, GM ...by Michael Moore I write this on the morning of the end of the once-mighty General Motors. By high noon, the President of the United States will have made it official: General Motors, as we know it, has been totaled. As I sit here in GM's birthplace, Flint, Michigan, I am surrounded by friends and family who are filled with anxiety about what will happen to them and to the town. Forty percent of the homes and busin…

Like you were looking for more teasing / pain. Found on -ahem- another board, not sure if it has been seen here, bowled over by the sexi-hardtoppedness of it. Finally a modern car I can say may have caused me to drool.

Not that anyone particularly cares or is likely to notice, but I expect to be 'away' from the board for the better part of a week. Going in for a bit of surgery Thursday and I expect to be laying around popping Percocets and dozing at will for some days. I started my extended hyperventilating first thing this morning; I like to jack up early. >:/

I'm sure we'll be seeing more than just yellow buses of varying lengths this month. Yup, summer's unofficially just about over, it's a perfect time to spot some eye-catching iron out there. Post away!

A few weks ago my buddy Ross introduced me to this awsome website. This guy calls himself Mister Jalopy and he's awsome. Almost like a modern day hero in a comic book kind of way. Wacked out and scatter brained but in the coolest way possible. Really spend some time and poke around the site. He's a madman. I need to have a website like this... no real specific topic just a bunch or random cars I work on and "useless" junk I collect that I consider treasure, documented roadtrips to "exotic" locations like some hidden treasure speedshop. Seriously, check it out. One of the best websites I have ever seen! http://www.hooptyrides.com/

Star Tribune may require sign-in Last update: March 12, 2006 – 8:27 PM Those with thick accents need not apply? A Minnesota legislator says "clear English pronunciation" should be a requirement for instructors at state colleges and universities. Norman Draper, Star Tribune It's a scenario familiar to university students: One or more of your instructors is foreign-born and speaks English with a thick accent. Usually, you can understand, but sometimes it takes an effort. Occasionally, you don't have a clue what's being said. State Rep. Bud Heidgerken, R-Freeport, figures this is a problem and has proposed a solution: He's introduced a bill intended to ensure that all…

I thought I would see if this is a common practice at other dealers as well. When we were test driving vehicles, the Chevy/Cadillac dealer (and no one else) put a "protection package" on every single new vehicle they had. The package was basically some sort of scotch guard type application done to the interior, nitrogen in the tires, and the windows were etched with the VIN or whatever it is they do. Anyways, this package is $599, and it's on every f@#king vehicle. Really annoying to see a $20,800 Cruze bumped to $21,399, or even worse on an Cruze LS or Aveo. I can see putting it on $50,000 Cadillacs, but $599 on an $18000 Cruze LS is a price increase of 3.33%. Since w…

Hells yeah. This s#@$ was hilarious. I didn't really know what to think, until I saw an interview with Samuel L Jackson about it. He knows how to make action movies good and funny at the same time (like Pulp Fiction). Kids - you two can call somebody as your favorite angry black actor! Soundboard of Samuel L Jackson.

As of August 28th, 2006, I have a vehicle. No more borrowing this car or that car. I mentioned this in another thread. Here's what I said. Well, I bothered to ask today about it and the truck is mine for certain. He's never asking for it back. I can't say I blame him. Before I start getting into why I just said that, let me go around describing the truck first. The Indigo Blue Metalliac 1998 Chevrolet S10 LS regular cab with the 2.2 liter four and 5-speed manual I've been handed has the mid-level gray cloth upholstery and a CD player. The truck is equipped similar to 1999's Survival Pak S10s, although this truck doesn't have it. Now, I won't start making a long par…

The dealer still has the Regal but I don't want it. I went to go make a deal on the Cherokee but they sold it off. I went to the back lot to look but they had something better. My patience is up, I found THE ONE. So sitting back there with an 1989 Pontiac 6000 Safari with portholes, a 1997 Cavalier, and the Regal is a 2000 Pontiac Sunfire GT with only 114,000 kms on it. It is black and has power everything and a sunroof. They want $3500 for it. What do you think? Here are the pictures.

To be introduced at the Istambul Motor Show (the same mototrshow where the 4 door Astra is to be unveiled, I believe), here are two links to articles re the new Fiat Linea: 1) http://blogs.edmunds.com/Straightline/1654 2) http://www.jalopnik.com/cars/news/fiat-get...nbul-208960.php I believe it to be Gamma-based, effectively being the "Grande Punto Sedan": the Linea is 4.56m in length with a wheelbase of 2.6m, while the Grande Punto hatch is 4.03m in length with a 2.51m wheelbase.

I think this should go on the front page of the site!.... Fans Against Racing Toyotas http://www.fansagainstracingtoyotas.com/ "Sunday August 20, 2006 This man Bill Bagwell (the founder of fansagainestracingtoyotas.com) was at the NASCAR race in Michigan he was holding this sign up at the pre-race television show Race day on Speed TV. He had been among the fans holding signs for over a hour. Their were many signs some positive about NASCAR drivers and teams and some not so positive. During a break the producer came over and told Bill he could no longer hold his Toyota sign up. Bill told him that this race was still being held in the USA and that he had freedom of …

I am considering a low-mileage car, unfortunately it is a 1995 Neon but it does have 76,000 kms and is almost free of rust except for the underbody. They want $2000 for this car certified and all repaired, it needs new exhaust and new lines. Would this vehicle be worth $2000?
