The new Malibu has a more athletic look than before. But it has no "Sport" trim package to spice things up, like Ford's Fusion and Toyota's Camry, two formidable rivals. The Kia Optima has a relatively sporty look, too, in higher trims. I'd like to see Chevy add a low-cost Sport trim package to the Malibu. A manual transmission is still offered in certain iterations of the competition, as well, including its main domestic foe... Fusion. If Chevy were to take, say, a 1LT Malibu and offer this package: 2.5L with 6 speed manual (optional automatic, of course). 18 inch unique alloys. Foglamps and low rear spoiler. Sport cloth seats and metallic interior trim... I thi…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com August 6, 2013 The Chevrolet Trailblazer could be coming to the U.S. if a recent report proves to be accurate. Edmunds learned from an internal source that a version of the Trailblazer could be going on sale in the U.S. in 2014. It's not clear if the vehicle will retain the name or be built in the U.S. The Trailblazer made its debut at 2012 Bangkok Auto Show and went on sale last year in a number of markets, including Thailand and Brazil. The model uses the same body-on-frame architecture with the midsize Chevrolet Colorado and comes with a variety of engines and the choice of two-wheel or four-wheel drive. Chevrolet …

Chevy HHR stars in offbeat TV ads Division also will push HHR, Impala on Web, in print By Laura Clark Geist Automotive News / September 05, 2005 http://www.autonews.com/article.cms?articleId=54379 DETROIT -- Chevrolet is taking product placement to new lengths in its advertising launches of the new HHR and re-engineered Impala. To launch the 2006 HHR small wagon, the brand is sponsoring a contest that invites consumers to shoot videos or photos that use the letters HHR in creative ways. Winning entries will air during the Sept. 22 episode of NBC's "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno." Chevrolet is buying all of the ad time on that night's show…

Why not offer the LS7 in a detuned form as an option on the base steal framed VETTE positioned between the LS2 and the Z06 models. It could be called the 427 CORVETTE like the historical ones even though its actually 428CI's. With 475 or so HP and the heaver steal frame in NON Z06 spec it would differ enough from that HIGH PERFORMANCE model in both cost and performance. This is something I WOULD LOVE TO SEE! A new 475HP 427 NEW GEN CAMARO to go with it!

William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com April 19, 2012 When you think of Chevrolet, one of the first things that comes up is the SS. The nameplate that signifies added performance on a Chevrolet model has found more than a million homes since the first SS model, the 1961 Impala SS was introduced. So it seems a bit odd that General Motors decided to trademark the SS name this year. Someone uncovered a application filled by GM on April 13 trademarking SS. So what does this mean? Well, most everyone thinks that reason why GM trademarked SS is due to it being using as a designator, and there have been rumors that a civilian version of the Caprice PPV will hit …

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com August 6, 2013 Despite piling on incentives to move Chevrolet Volts off dealer lots a couple months ago, sales rose to a meager 0.1 percent to 11,643 vehicles through July. Add in the fact that the Nissan Leaf dropped it price earlier and is currently experiencing a rise in sales and the inevitable was bound to happen. Today, General Motors announced a $5,000 price cut to the 2014 Volt. That means the starting price is now $34,995 (including $810 in destination). Factor in the $7,500 federal tax credit and you're looking at a price of $27,495. “The lower price and cost savings from driving on electricity provide Volt ow…

Just read an artical in Speedway Illistrated Dec 05. It had an artical that interviewed many in the NASCAR comunity. One item I found interesting was where they talked to Ford and NASCAR about the future of the BUSH series. I know it does not mean much now but it show others are looking for GM to build a Camaro for their own purpose. Quote "Of the three central NASCAR series The futrure of the Bush Series is the most under discussion, insiders insist. One possible fix: running cars that are completely different from the Cup cars, thus reducing the value of a Cup driver participate in a Saturday Bush race. I am considering 'jumping the fence' from the Blue Oval Ranch to the BowTie Ranch. This would be a first for me after 4 Ford trucks. Am looking at a '05 Silverado 2500HD Crew Cab 4x4 with the DuraMax/Allison. The truck is a great vehicle in ride, handling, braking and OMG would I wrack up tickets- it's quick. The guy is only asking wholesale on it, which amounts to $26K. I am wondering 2 things: What is the standard powertrain warranty on the DuraMax? I've heard the extended is 7/200. What are people getting for MPG out of these 'around town'? I get 16 out of my current truck and am fine with that, but some claim the DM is good for closer to 20 in the same circumstan…

February 13, 2012 - Drew Dowdell - CheersandGears.com Earlier in January of this year, General Motors' North American President Mark Reuss tipped his hand a bit with regards to the upcoming Chevrolet Coloroado suggesting that it would be a "lifestyle sport truck" in the vein of the Honda Ridgeline but with all of the capability a buyer would expect of a Chevrolet truck. Though the Colorado won't be released in the US until around the 2013 time frame, it has already begun being marketed in Thailand where it is available with a drool worthy 2.8 liter V6 Duramax. Over the weekend, one of our readers, Ocnblu, sent us a tip about a few Chevy Colorado promotional videos that…

Is AFM (cylinder deactivation) worth it? I report, you decide… FACT: AFM is worth 2 mpg in on the freeway, 0 mpg in the city. With AFM enabled in Eco mode, the Corvette Stingray posts 17 (city) / 30 (hwy) mpg in the EPA test cycle. With it disabled in Touring mode, the Stingray posts 17 (city) / 28 (hwy) mpg in EPA test cycles. GM chooses to put the “average of the two” 17/29 mpg on the window sticker. FACT: the LT1 V8 makes 460 hp @ 6000 rpm / 465 lb-ft @ 4600 rpm. This is about 45 hp shy of the 7.0 liter port injected LS7 V8, but only 5 lb-ft shy of it. The 7-liter LS7 peaks at 505 hp @ 6300 rpm with 470 lb-ft @ 4800 rpm. Most of the torque gain in the LT1 is from dir…

Rare Pininfarina Corvette Heading for Barrett-Jackson Link to Original Article @ CorvetteBlogger We are about 100 days out from January's Barrett-Jackson's Collector Car auction in Scottsdale, Arizona and details are beginning to emerge about some of the "talent" that will be hitting the auction block. Corvettes are always well represented and that should remain the case despite plans to cut back the number of vehicles from around 1,200 to 1,000. One of the cars expected at January's event is this one-of-a-kind 1963 Rondine Corvette, a car that was hand-built by renowned Italian coach builder Pininfarina for the 1963 Paris Auto Show. As a number of manufacturers are running away from diesel (and who can blame them), Chevrolet is running towards it with the introduction of the Cruze Diesel early next year. Now Chevrolet has announced pricing for the diesel variant. The Cruze Diesel will begin at $24,670 for the six-speed manual and $26,270 for the nine-speed automatic. Like the previous Cruze Diesel, the new model will only be available in the LT trim which nets you LED daytime running lights, seven-inch infotainment system, and six-speaker audio system. I was thinking the other day about the Volt, in the light of it being used the same way as a Nissan Leaf... i.e., as a electric only car. I know that engines and gasoline don't like sitting still for long periods... I was curious, if the Volt engineers have planned for the possibility of a owner never getting the Volt to run the gasoline engine. Sure... the Volt could turn it on briefly from time to time to ensure it doesn't suffer from its disuse, but then I was thinking... what if the owner never puts gas in it... so then the Volt could not even run the engine periodically to keep it in good condition. Then I was thinking... what if the user never runs the Volt's engi…

Some lines from the new Motor Trend review: "Running almost on empy, General Motors digs deep with its new full size truck platform and strikes it big." "A first drive smackdown test on the track and in the field reveals that GM brought game" "The technological advances are compelling-but the Tahoe's most critical changes are the interior. It's nothing short of stunning, especially when compared with the previous generation's. Cabin materials are significantly improved, with softer surfaces and tighter gaps and tolerances on all panels, the center stack, and gauges. Even the carpet fasteners have been hidden, giving the floor a bett…

Well I just returned from the GM Canada dealer only autoshow in Toronto, Ontario. We were shown the production Enclave, Acadia, GMT-900 trucks, Equinox SS, Torrent GXP, G6 Coupe GXP, Solstice GXP, NEW 08 CTS, NEW 08 STS and finally the 2008 Chevrolet Malibu The Malibu literally stole the show. Everyones jaws dropped when they unveiled the car. It is simply stunning. Toyota and Honda have some serious competition coming, and thats coming from dealers who also own foreign dealerships. It will be available fall 2007, and we were told to watch for it on this years autoshow circuit. Before anyone asks....We were not allowed to sit in it. The Torrent GXP and the Equin…

http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Drive...rticleId=117227 Guys, I do not see a balance review here, more like a 60-40 review (40, of course the + ve part). Apparently Mike Schmidt can be considered an import humper. Here are some vagaries. 1. With the Honda Fit, Nissan Versa, Toyota Yaris and a newly redesigned Hyundai Accent already on sale, the entry of the 2007 Chevrolet Aveo into this highly competitive segment seems like old news. And in this case, old news isn't such good news for General Motors. >> Mr. Schmuckidt can you justify that comment? A lame shot in his dark hind hole. 2. But with the Accent, Fit, Versa and Yaris charging uphill with bayonets…

Dan Neil of the L.A. Times drives the Chevy Aveo and gives it a surprisingly positive review. An excerpt: That said, there's something quite agreeable about the Aveo. It's comfortable, solidly constructed, and surprisingly eager to please. The little dual-cam motor will happily pull its guts out to get up to speed. The ride quality is reasonably composed for a short-wheelbase (97.6 inches) commuter car, and the interior noise levels more than respectable. The exterior paint quality and panel gap consistency are excellent. And, let me just say, hand-cranked windows? What a clever idea. The biggest surprise in the Aveo is the interior's quality. The subject of a major p…

Although both Ram and Toyota have shown they are ready and willing to give Ford's SVT Raptor supertruck a challenge, one notable truck maker still declines to join the fight: General Motors. That, however, could be set to change soon. GM registered the "Z71 Trail Boss" trademark with the US Trademark and Patent Office on January 14, 2015. The trademark filing states the name is to be used on passenger vehicles, specifically light duty pickups. The new trademark – the "Trail Boss" portion of the name especially – suggests that there could be new, souped-up versions of GM's Z71 spec Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups in the pipeline. How GM could upgrade its Z71 …

Chevrolet has gone a bit crazy with the special editions over the past couple of years with Rally, Redline, and Midnight. Now there is another one in the form of the RST (Rally Sport Truck) for the 2018 Tahoe and Suburban. But this special edition stands out for one reason. Before we get to that reason, let's dive into what the RST package nets you. There is no sign of chrome trim anywhere on the RST. Instead, Chevrolet is using body-color for the door handles and grille surround, and gloss black for other trim pieces. A set of 22-inch alloy wheels come wrapped in Bridgestone Dueler tires. Optional is a Borla exhaust that adds an additional 10 horsepower and more aggr…

Chevrolet believes that it gain more market share in subcompacts to full-size sedans as other competitors leave the market, most notably Ford. "It's a pretty big opportunity for us. As other people are making noise about leaving the car business or thrifting back their portfolio, there's still business to be had there. It's just going about the business in a smart fashion," said Steve Majoros, Chevrolet's marketing director for cars and crossovers to Automotive News. While the car market in the U.S. continues to shrink as more buyers go for SUVs and crossovers, it still represents more than four million possible customers and an opportunity for Chevrolet to intr…

With Cafe changes GM looks to be crambling the engine line up since last year and here is what Luts said. By RICHARD TRUETT, AUTOMOTIVE NEWS NEW YORK -- General Motors is considering a four-cylinder engine for the new Chevrolet Camaro as a response to rising fuel prices. Speaking on the sidelines of the New York auto show, GM Vice Chairman Bob Lutz said the drivetrain under consideration for the Camaro is the same high-performance one used in the Pontiac Solstice and Saturn Sky roadsters. It’s a 2.0-liter turbocharged, direct-injected four-cylinder rated at 260 hp. Lutz said that if fuel prices continue to climb, the four-cylinder Camaro could see production. GM …

With one tenth the population and different homologation laws than the United States, the costs rarely make it worthwhile for automakers to import unique products to the Canadian market. Typically, the exceptions to the rule are vehicles like the Mercedes-Benz B-Class or Nissan X-Trail – compact utility vehicles that are fuel efficient and priced in the lower end of their segments. With vehicle prices around 30% hi…

I was thinking of getting out my 2.4L Cobalt SS coupe and into a Malibu SS. Nothing wrong with the Cobalt--I just miss low end torque and an auto would be nice sometimes. Plus now that I have a kid--4drs would work better. I have always liked the SS Malibu--its sqaure, angular lines and SS exterior treatment look far more interesting the Accords, Camrys ect. I like this short wheelbase epsilon...much neater, tider dimesnions then it's long wheelbase brethren (G6, Aura) And I still do but after test driving the car it has too many faults for me. Namely the powertrain and a couple of very minor sqeaks/ratles that my Coblat does not have. The 3900 provided very str…

With GM's very acute attention to design and detail in our newest models both on the inside and outside (Camaro in particular, Equinox, Malibu, Invicta, etc.), it only makes me anticipate a new generation of Corvette even more, especially with the CAFE hype hitting and saying the Corvette might be smaller, lighter, and on Alpha. However, my biggest focus is on interior/exterior design. What are you guys expecting?

GM is having a test drive event at the annual CHIN International Picnic in Toronto. One of the cars featured is the new 2010 Chevrolet Equinox. I checked it out on Friday (the event wasn't open, so there was no one there, and no driving). VIDEO: PICS:

The wife had Glee on tonight and Chevy has done a little on the show before but tonight they opened the flood gate. First off in the show they spot lighted a new Camaro SS convertible in Blue. They had Two new Corvettes also spot lighted during the show. There were several Cruze spots and the car looked good! Then they even had the ZR1 spot on near the end of the show. GM made good use of their money as they had great placment in one of the highest rated shows and really targeted the youth market. I will have to watch and see what else they show in future episodes. I hope to God they do not do the Volt dance LOL!

Has this been posted yet? It's the Wide Body Cobalt SS from SEMA. I saw this and amost fell off my seat. WOW. As a child of the 80s I'm a sucker for a sexy wide body car but this is just delicious. This thing is a ricer's wet dream and yet I'm completely infatuated wiht it. Even the crazy wing looks good. It whispers to me: "I'll meet you at Laguna Seca at midnight for a adulterous rendezvous, bring $100 gas money and make sure your Camaro does not find out! Bring protection too... you know a nice set of leather driving gloves!" Chevrolet Cobalt SS Coupe Wide Body Like all Chevy SS vehicles before it, Cobalt SS represents a…

Future Camaro Update: Australia's GM Holden May Be Taking the Lead Toward Production Date posted: 04-20-2006 CANBERRA, Australia — A task force based at GM Holden — set up shortly after the debut of the Chevrolet Camaro concept at the North American International Auto Show in January — is reportedly working on the production version of the car, according to the Telegraph newspaper here. "The only thing I can say on the record is that our new rear-wheel-drive (Zeta) architecture is the main candidate for the future American rear-wheel-drive products, including the Camaro concept," said GM Holden Chairman Denny Mooney in the report. "We have a significant number of engi…

Motor Trend has an article online, with an extensive gallery, of new Colorados, having driven them in Thailand. While overall very nice, I have two issues with the new truck: its carlike front end, and relatively (to wheel opening size, at least) tiny tires, even on the Z71. I know smaller tires are cheaper to replace, and this truck will be all about low maintenance costs, but man, I hope for meatier meats on the US version, esp on Z71s.

Did not see this posted any where so here it is. The dash of the Silverado 427 SEMA truck had a dash with a little Camaro in it. The Speedo and Tach are similar to the Camaro concept as is the console. Don't know if any of this is base of future production items but it would be tempting to use them in show cars prior to release of the Street car. I expect the rest of the dash is not anything Camaro related as it is just to big and truck like. But the gauges on the other hand might be a hint of the production items as they are toned down from the concept. The interior also featured recovered Vette seat.

Mexico, Brazil, South Africa, the UK, et al, could use the infusion of style in their respective Chevy lineups. GM shouldn't rest on the laurels of crusty Daewoos, bland late-model Opels/Holdens, and 90s Chevys. Go look at the respective sites for each country and tell me I'm lyin'. The HHR obviously won't interupt or infringe on the turf of any of the bread and butter Chevys in those markets. Besides, I can't see where it's THAT expensive, plus the car is still small enough and fuel efficient enough, with the Delta/Ecotec mechanicals common enough in the worldwide parts bin. Hell, it would even make a great taxi or cute delivery van in those markets. I think the…

Chevrolet has announced the pricing for the upcoming 2014 Camaro Z/28 before it goes on sale in the spring. The base price will be $75,000 (includes a $995 destination charge and a gas-guzzler tax). While the pricetag is a bit extravagant at first glance, the number of performance parts that make the Z/28 a road going racecar more than justify it. Let's begin with what's under the hood of the Z/28: A 7.0L LS7 V8, rated at 505 horsepower and 481 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed manual transmission with a Torsen limited-slip differential that makes sure all of that power to the rear wheels. Other changes include a weight loss of 300 pounds, light-weight nineteen-inch all…

Almost four years ago, famed Corvette tuner Callaway showed a design study for a Corvette Stingray known as the AeroWagon. A shooting brake version of then new Corvette, the tuner announced later in the year that it would put the AeroWagon into production as it generated enough interest. Flash forward to now and Callaway has finally produced a production version of the AeroWagon, now known as the C21 AeroWagon. The model shown here comes courtesy of Callaway's General Manager of Operations, Peter Callaway on their Facebook page. Available only for the coupe, the conversion swaps the fastback for a longer roof piece and tailgate. All of the body panels are made out of…

If all goes well, I'll be looking for a used 4x4 Silverado/Sierra 2500HD truck in a few weeks. A crew Crew Cab or Extended Cab is a must, but the bed length doesn't matter. I know all about Holden Utes, but except for driving a 2002 model Extended Cab, Long Bed, 2WD Silverado 2500HD across the US a few years ago, the Chevy/GMC trucks are something I have very little experience with. I expect to be looking at 2002 to 2006 models, but I could go a few years older if the truck is really good and the right price. Are there any years or models to avoid? Conversely, are there any years and models that are really good? Are there any common problem areas I should examine on a…

On my way to work this morning, about 7:30am (on the 401 near the 404 for those who know Toronto) still half asleep, I looked in my rear view and saw an oddly familiar face. It took me a second to realize what it was and, well, I think smilies can best sow my reactions, I went from to to to It was an inferno orange SS in the wild Yes I pinched myself and no it wasn't a dream. The guy (who I assume is a GM engineer) was giving here a good run, about 130kph, and I kept pace so I could take in as much as a could. All I can say, is wow, that she looks just as good, if not better, on the road, then they ever did at the shows, and the sound...oooohhhh the sound.

* With the start of 2012, I'm renewing efforts to "keep alive" a generation-specific Monte Carlo board & a generation-specific MC group. 3rd GEN MC BOARD I quietly re-launched the 3rd gen MC (1978, 1979, 1980) forum, November 2010... http://thirdgenmontes.proboards.com/index.cgi With Sean's death after the 2008 MC Nationals, third generation MCs lost their unique "voice" on the web, becoming the only MC generation without its own active/running message board or group at that time. Just over 2 years later, August 2010, I finally took the time to investigate switching ownership of the board from Sean to me. I completed the process just over a month later (Septemb…

Let's go down the list of 4-door sedans with 6-passenger seating STANDARD Ford Crown Victoria Lincoln Town Car Mercury Grand Marquis and the list of OPTIONAL 6-passenger seating Buick LaCrosse Buick Lucerne Cadillac DTS Chevrolet Impala So with the Crown Vic possibly going fleet only, a redesign in the mix for the GM and TC, and the fact that GM makes a front split bench optional, who will be left with a true 6-passenger full-size sedan that you don't have to pay extra, special order, or search dealer lots for weeks to find? And why did GM make a split front bench OPTIONAL on full-size cars? Isn't the whole point of buying a full-size car to get 6-pas…

General Motors is going custom crazy with their trucks. In the past few weeks, the automaker has introduced the Chevrolet Silverado Custom Sport and GMC Canyon Nightfall Edition. Now at the National Automobile Dealers Association Convention & Expo in San Francisco, GM has introduced another custom package. Meet the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado Midnight Edition. Like the Custom Sport, the Midnight Edition takes a Silverado Z71 and adds an all blacked-out treatment with body-colored grille, bumper, side moldings, and beltline moldings. A set of eighteen-inch wheels done up in black finish off the exterior. “The Midnight special edition, like our recently announced Custom …

Cruze Diesel Review by Green Car http://www.greencarreports.com/news/1109762_2017-chevrolet-cruze-diesel-first-drive Came across this review of the cruze diesel and have to say I was impressed by the writeup, pictures and found the following two quotes to be very telling of just how well Cheverolet nailed the new Diesel Cruze. Quote 1 Driving the Prius for mileage was an annoying affair, requiring me to putter away from stoplights and hang out in the slow lane on the freeway as other cars passed, just so I could come up short on the EPA-estimated freeway figure. It was tiring and tedious. Quote While the diesel engine deserves a lot of prais…

2019 CHEVROLET VOLT CHARGES QUICKER, IMPROVES CONVENIENCE 2018-06-28 DETROIT — A new 7.2 kW charging system on the 2019 Chevrolet Volt cuts recharging times nearly in half by adding about twice the all-electric driving range per hour of charge. The new system headlines a number of additional enhancements for the 2019 Volt and increases the vehicle’s all-electric utility for owners who take advantage of “opportunity charging,” or plugging in around town to top off the battery charge. “With about twice the range added during 240V Level 2 charging sessions, the 2019 Volt’s 7.2 kW system makes opportunity charging more worthwhi…

I went dealer hopping yesterday and visited a few friends that work at a couple of Chevy dealerships here in the area. While I was at one I noticed a 07 Trailblazer sitting on the lot with HUGE (I mean they look absolutely massive) wheels on it and as I walked up closer, I saw the SS badging. That thing really does look pretty doggone good. It was the first one I've seen with the exception of pictures around on here. So, has anyone else seen one?
