Well today was the Bearing Burner Associations annual car show and it was at the GM Tech Center. $10 per Car to enter. massive swap meet used car section and car show. i forgot a camera, so I'm sorry guys. well what really caught my eye was GM had a Ride and Drive booth set up with a couple of warren cops that i knew. went to go talk to them. Well they had a bunch of GM cars. Silverado LTZ, Equinox sport, Silverado HD Durmax, HHR LT, HHR SS, Malibu LTZ, Tahoe hybrid, Trailblazer SS, and Impala SS. Well i sign up why the hell not, right? I took the breathalzer from warren PD. And first take out the HHR LT. go around a roundabout and theres about a 1/2 mile straight and …

At least on the brain, anyways... :AH-HA_wink: I've been thinking about getting a truck for a while now...let me know what you think.... Since I have 3 compact cars (a Balt and two Cavs) that are good on gas...what if my next car is a truck? A Trailblazer, to be exact. The TB would be used for trips for the family, and trips to Lowe's or Sam's Club.... I would keep the other cars for the commute, so the TB would be lucky to see, maybe 50 miles in a week....(not counting trips to places) And since they will be gone soon, I should be able to get one pretty cheap...all I need is an LS that can tow, A/C, CD...that's pretty much it. I would be considering one af…

It's amazing the variety of aftermarket wheels these days. Amazing how it affects the look of a car or truck. What are some of your favorites? Surprisingly I'm liking the black ones with silver or red rim. I also like the spidery type as well. I'm seeing this type more and more lately. They look great on big trucks.

Cadillac asks this question: When you turn your car on, does it return the favor? I may not have a Cadillac, but my Monte Carlos return the favor ... even when they are not on.... I've taken some new pics recently of each of my MCs...chose the "best" of them...and Ray B put 'em on the site for me. The following are samples of what I took...MORE are, of course, on the website.... I had Arkus out running around the place a while back, and he disappeared from view just long enough for me to know that it meant trouble (with Arkus that's about a minute or so). So I start calling him. He still doesn't show up. Just as I'm about to jump in the Silverado to hunt him down, he rounds the bend from behind the barn. Carrying a fox in his mouth. I yell at him and he drops the fox, and crawls over to me (realizing that he's screwed-up again). So I grab a hold of of him thinking that I'll need to put a wounded fox out of its misery. When I looked up, the fox was running away (looking pretty pissed-off). I breathed a sigh of relief, thinking I'd…

I've got a tree in my backyard that I absolutely hate. Its a crabapple tree and I want it to die a slow, painful, torturous death. But my dad likes it and is more than willing to make a spot in his yard for it. Problem is, its pretty mature, at least 11 years old, around 6 feet tall. Is there any way to get it out without killing it?

Another favorite of mine is the Albizia Julibrissin (Japanese Mimosa or Silk Tree). It is the main attraction of my front lawn in summer. The Albizia Julibrissin with its delicately scented flowers is an attractive exotic plant for the garden. Long stamen make the flowers look like a pink powder puff. Also, the pinnately (feather-like) divided leaves add to the elegant appearance of the tree. At night or in case of drought the leaves fold together (hence its common name ‘sleeping tree’ in some languages), by day they unfold again and offer a shady place to relax.

Well on its way to becoming the highest-grossing film of all time, James Cameron's Avatar is bulldozing all the competition. Have you seen it? I took my mother to see it yesterday at her request, and I must say, even with the heavy-handed message(s) and well-worn love story angle, it was beautifully done. We saw it in 2-D, and I'd go back to see it in 3-D, wow, what a way to light up the screen.

"China alone loses between 100 million and 200 million tons of coal each year to mine fires, as much as 20 percent of their annual production, according to the International Institute for Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation, based in Enschede, Netherlands. The Institute estimates that carbon dioxide emissions from these fires are as high as 1.1 billion metric tons, more than the total carbon dioxide emissions from automobiles in the United States."

Describe a car (The Chevrolet) you think can be number one in term of sales, and that would be profitable of course (and maybe exciting as well). How big (dimensions), how roomy (trunk, volume, legroom) should it be? Which bodystyles? Which accessories , colors... And how many cars would you sell per year? How would you name it/ or what are the names you would use if there is a name for each trim level?

Not that any of the U.S. shows are close enough to personally attend, but perhaps they'll announce some east coast shows later in the year. Here's to hoping.

So what kicked off this search was my reading Oldsmoboi's post, "If Mazda survives that long", and thinking, "What a wierd thing to say!". It got me thinking, I wonder if Mazda is only doing well here in Canada. So here are some graphs I dug up. Mazda outsells Nissan here in Canada, where in the US they get beaten almost 4-to-1. Also, note the American GM-Ford-Toyota podium vs. Ford-Chrysler-GM in Canada.

I have an interesting one-afternoon mini-project that I want to tackle. I have the GM Accessories premium floor mats for my Cobalt, and while they're great at catching dirt, very durable, and embarrasingly easy to clean, I have one problem with them: The tan accents on them are rather ugly and don't go well with my car's inside at all. My solution: mask off the accents and brush on some type of silver paint to cover the tan up. Does anyone know of a type of brush-on paint that will will flex with the mat so that it won't crack easily and last for a long time? Something that soaks into the mat would be ideal, because I have no reason to want to see the tan again. TIA

Along with that, I've got philanthropy/community service to complete along with projects in and around the DTD house. I am very careful in the presence of automotive journalists to not describe myself as such. I feel it is somewhat disrespectful to those who do this job as their main career when I do it as more of a hobby that barely makes enough money to cover costs. There is a running joke amongst the automotive journalist crowd that any car, no matter what it is, could be made better if it was made available in a wagon, with all-wheel-drive, a diesel, and a manual transmission... all in one package. This week, my rental car was a new VW Passat. Driving between Pittsburgh and Columbus, I glanced down at the computer generated average mpg... I was pulling about 37mpg. The rest of t…

..although the sticker says otherwise. This was one of the small compartments inside the $37,387 ES350 I was in earlier: I don't have one damn feature in my $18,700 Cobalt made that cheap. I honestly thought I was going to break that button; it looked like it was made by a sweatshop in Japan and had cheaper quality than a Fisher Price toy. Also, I don't see the hype over Lexus vehicles because I was inside an ES, IS, LS, and GS and all of them were pretty damn cheap for a luxury vehicle. Some of them had loose gloveboxes and others had much more hard plastic than any current Cadillac I've been in, and the Americans get ragged on very hard for that stuff. I just don…

Then the Rays over the Angels, Cubs over Phillies, then Cubs over Rays. What can I say, I'm a homer. The Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation estimates that in an average year the adult entertainment industry — which is headquartered primarily in Southern California — registers total sales of $12.6 billion. Recently Larry Flynt, head of the Hustler empire, and Joe Francis, the man behind the “Girls Gone Wild” series, requested a $5 billion bailout from Congress. Is it that bad out there? The rest of the nation is reeling from a severe economic downturn. Yet the conventional wisdom about the adult entertainment business is that it is recession-proof. And that thinking is consistent with the behavior of mainstream Hollywood. In times of economic …

Hey, guys (and gals). I thought I would drop a line and say hi (for those who care) just to say that I have not dropped off the face of the earth - just the face of the northern hemisphere. I don't need to tell any of you regulars how bad things are for GM in North America. The dealer where I worked for almost 10 years closed its doors a year ago and I was forced to jump ship. Being a loyal Chevy fan, I joined another old, established Chev dealer in Toronto - and boy is that a dying breed. Things were going great through the summer, and then when GMAC cancelled leases (43% of my portfolio in 2007), coupled by all the bankrupcy news in the Fall of last year - well,…

We have a lot of distractions this time of year, but we are still seeing cars. Seen anything interesting on the road? Tonight I saw a last-gen LaCrosse in black coming up beside me on the freeway. Black is not my color for a car, but, on this LaCrosse, it really amped up the grille, the chrome moulding around the windows and on the handles, and mostly the rear taillamp assembly with the boomerang shaped lamps, which looks sharp to begin with.

I'm trying to write a novel...just for kicks. It has an automotive theme, and this is the chapter I introduce the firebird. Main Charactor is a 17 year old boy named Carl. It had only been too easy for the bird to kill its prey. Fishing with dynamite, really. And she wasn’t even a real bird. She was a Pontiac Formula Firehawk, One of the last ones off of the line and one of the fastest ones Pontiac had built. Men who work around machines will tell you that if you take a hundred identical machines, 4 or 5 won’t work all that well at all. Lemons some call them. Others merely cuss at them as they have to go back for a fourth service call to fix them. About 85 or 9…

Why is everybody ending their sentences with this phrase?? I've heard it three times today from three different people and it's getting to the point where it's just downright annoying. Was it on some movie or TV show that I missed? I hadn't heard anyone use it until about a month and a half ago, and now it's infested itself into the campus lingo like a virus. Here's some examples of its usage: Amanda: "Yeah, I took my physics test today and did pretty bad...I'm not gonna lie." Bob: "Yeah, this dining food sucks today...I'm not gonna lie." Why?

Here is a puzzle for those who seek to be mentally challenged as opposed to being mentally challenged. The object here is to alter a word by one letter. You may do so by adding a letter, removing a letter, replacing a letter with another, and/or rearranging the word at the same time. Here is an example: BEST STAB BATS STAG STAGE STATE ESTATE TASTE EAST BEAST BASE To start off with here's the word> Dodge

Tonight is the final match. It is Italy versus France. Unlike the Super Bowl or the World Series, the World Cup only occurs once every 4 years....why, I don't know. It is being played in Berlin tonight. Any takes?

As has been noted, I watch the license plate numbers, so I have a good idea of whats being newly plated in my neck of the woods. Now that C4C is a fading memory, I'm noticing a lot more "second tier" or "third tier" used cars being plated. Stuff that looks like it was languishing under a tree for a minor fault that has been pressed back into service. I'm seeing a lot of GM FWD A-bodies returning to service and more Ford Tempo/Topazes... stuff that tended to hold together better from the '82-'94 timeframe... sorry not a lot of Chrysler, or J-bodies. I'm also finding that a lot of '96-'01 stuff being sold have nasty mechanical problems... high mileage... and since I'm t…

I can hardly believe it has been a month since my road trip ENDED. It's been a rough few weeks since I got back home, which hasn't helped. I finally had the CT Scan of my heart/chest Saturday, August 6, 2011, and, given some other things happening (mostly not-so-good; one maybe good), I may be scarce for a while. I haven't even driven my MCs much this year ... MAYBE 100 miles so far on each of them. I kinda doubt I'll get 1,000 miles on 'em this year for what would be the 3rd year in a row. Anxiousness + uncertainty + waiting + powerlessness + helplessness + feeling lost + not feeling well + hating medical crap = NOT a good combo. BUT ... I'm still alive and such. HA…

Who ever has dreamed about going to Europe, at the fraction of the price, do what I did, go to the French-owned island of Saint-Pierre et Miquelon, right off the Grand Banks of Newfoundland... In early August, my girlfriend and I took a four day trip out to St. Pierre, which is a series of three islands with a population roughly 7000. The main island is St. Pierre, which we stayed at... Here are some pics... Take off from Toronto at 7:20 am, love the smog coming in from the States (at least 50% of it) Landing in Halifax for a 20 minute stop-over After we landed in St. John's Newfie-land Our flight to the tiny french island of St. Pierre (passport req.) …

* The English language is a curious thing. Everyday phrases, when written out, are redundant: "PIN number" ... as in "Personal Identification Number Number" "ATM machine" ... as in "Automated Teller Machine Machine" "VIN number" ... as in "Vehicle Identification Number Number" "HAZ-MAT material" ... as in "Hazardous Material Material" "UPC code" ... as in "Universal Product Code Code" "Hot water heater" ... so, you heat hot water? "free gift" ... thought all "gifts" were "free? Apparently not! Interesting sentences: "A calendar's days are numbered." "A committee is a group that keeps minutes & loses hours." "When a clock is hungry it goes back for second…

2007 IIHS Subcompact Crash Test Results Subcompact cars, an increasingly popular choice among drivers, fared poorly in new crash tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Not surprisingly, the small cars did especially poorly in crashes with large SUVs and trucks, according to results released today. But deaths in small cars also were higher in single-vehicle crashes, compared to larger vehicles. The only small vehicle to get good safety marks across the board was the subcompact Nissan Versa, which is slightly larger than competing mini or B-car vehicles, but is marketed alongside the others. Five of the seven cars tested by the insurance instit…

so we finally get a bunch of snow with in 15 minutes of driving i see a blazer wrapped around a telephone pole and jeep into a tree. I guess people don't know that you cant do 30 down side streets when its snowy out. Unnecessary loss of cars really. In the intersections people wait for the last 5 feet and brake only to realize there on ice. and go across the intersection. What happened to basic knowledge? Michigan has been getting snow for millions of years now. Its like its the first time people saw the stuff.

All right, I know venting isn't something I do regularly on here, but this time I have to. Today was "lets order everything from CarQuest at once" day. I've never filled so many big freaking orders in my life. First call of the day: Its one of our bigger shops with 12 service bays total, 8 indoor, 2 outdoor, and 2 alignment racks. Well guess what... THEY"RE ALL FULL, and he needs parts for every single one of 'em. Normally vehicles are split into different tickets with different PO's from this customer, but this time he didn't even have time to give me different PO's, he just said to put it all on one ticket and use SHOP as the PO, so away I went: Bay 1: 2002 Che…

So a few hours ago I was flipping channels between Emeril's Moules a la Mariniere recipe (blegh) and SPEED's Forza Motorsport Challenge infomerical-cum-reality-show, when I happened to come across The O'Reilly Factor. Bill's sharp inward-pointed eyebrows and self-confident smirk just beckoned me to stay a bit longer. And so I did. As popular in these shows, there was a riveting headline. Today's was "Liberals Against Raising Fuel Economy Standards," which was accompanied by a montage of both Pontiac G6 and pump meter stock footage. First he lambasted American automobile manufactuers over an alleged refusal to reduce fuel consumption. To prove his point, he showed Ron Ge…

What is this? So... I'm trying to end the seemingly never ending saga of what is causing my Milly's engine to miss. We've been unable to really find anything wrong with it that would cause that. Yesterday, it suddenly got worse, where it actually stalled on me twice, while moving at that. It's never done that before. It still seems like its something with intake or one of the sensors. I noticed that upon shutting the engine off, it sounded like there was a vacuum effect. I had my dad listen for it to try to find where it came from. Seems that it's the air box. My dad messed around with it... Well, anyways, to finish, my dad thinks the problem could be that thing, w…

I just learned yesterday that the "Back to the Future - The Ride" has closed and is in the process of being demolished in Universal Studios Orlando.... and that the one in Universal Studios Los Angeles is set to close for good in 20 days (September 3). So if you're in CA, a fan of this ride, and want one last chance to ride it, do so before it closes for good on September 3. And just fyi... the ride that will be built on the BTTF's site in both parks will be a Simpson's ride. I sad and happy at the same time.

So the running concept I have for my project involves a lot of facts about japn Inc. in refrnce to their less-than-perfect quality. This is the text I have for the poster so far: There is a Myth that Japanese vehicles are more reliable and superior to American vehicles. Did you know in 2006 Toyota recalled more cars than it sold? Did you know that the new Tundra’s 5.7L V8 has had exploding camshaft issues that result in catastrophic engine failure? Did you know the Tundra is the only pickup not to get a 5-star crash test rating? Or how about Honda’ recall of 2007 Civics because their wheel could potentially fall off? Perhaps Nissan’s recall of it’s 2.5L Altima due …

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21978302/?GT1=10547 LOS ANGELES - Kevin DuBrow, lead singer of the popular 1980s heavy metal band Quiet Riot, has been found dead from unknown causes at his home in Las Vegas, authorities said on Monday. DuBrow, 52, was found dead at about 5:20 p.m. on Sunday, a spokeswoman for the Clark County Coroner’s Office said. She said an autopsy would be conducted to determine the cause of death. “I can’t even find the words to say,” Quiet Riot bandmate Frankie Banali said on his Web site. “Please respect my privacy as I mourn the passing and honor the memory of my dearest friend, Kevin DuBrow.” Quiet Riot, which was founded in the mid-1970s, topp…

I saw a Holden Suburban today, nothing more than a rebadged Chevy Suburban they even kinda just welded the Holden badge on the front, with one odd twist. The dash is from a Chevy Blazer. I thought I was seeing things, at first. but there it was. So I did a little research ala Google and found this. Check under - Features and design to see about the Blazer dash.
