Folks: We've already seen the ordering guides and the new color lists. Surfacing on the horizon for larger cars is a color called Midnight Amethyst Metallic. In reality, it's already here -- on Cobalt, as a minimum. It's interesting, but possibly trendy. It can look somewhat grape-like. It reminds me of the mid-90s Thunderbird color that's purple and reads differently under different light. I guess I'm pissed because they shortchange us on variants of standard colors or fail to find a good shade of them and then insert trandier colors (this year Amethyst and 2 years ago Fusion Orange Metallic - I have seen NEW 04 and 05 GPs in that color still sitting on lots). …

Well, it might be changing big time within the next 6 months or so. First, I've got a guy that's pretty interested in the Camaro (finally threw it in AutoTrader last week), so that should hopefully be gone soon, leaving space for another Camaro. A new addition to the driveway would be the '87-92 Camaro IROC 5.7L my dad's looking to find and rebuild. He's taking most of his bonus and splurging on a car when he finds one. Second, the lease on my mom's '05 4.7L Durango is up in June or so, and my parents are seriously considering getting an Acadia in the driveway. As I mentioned in the GMC forum, I took my parents up to the GMC dealer the other day and they loved the way…

(Reuters) - Hostess Brands Inc, the bankrupt maker of Twinkies and Wonder Bread, has sought a U.S. court's permission to go out of business after failing to get wage and benefit cuts from thousands of its striking bakery workers. Hostess, which has about $2.5 billion in sales from a long list of snack cakes and breads, filed the request with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in New York early Friday morning. The Irving, Texas-based company said the liquidation would mean that most of its 18,500 employees would lose their jobs. Hostess immediately suspended operations at all of its 33 plants across the United States as it moves to start liquidating assets, it said. "We'll be s…

Ugh! Another Saturday night has come and gone. My life has settled into such a rut. I can sit in a chair and practically imagine the entire weekend in my head to the extenet that the experience would be nearly the same as living it. Shopping, cleaning, laundry, paying bills, going to the gym, going out to the bars...it's all become so repetitive and boring, I'm going a little crazy. Even the coming of spring just adds more home maintenance and yardwork into the mix. I try to shake things up to the extent I can, but being single I have to do everything myself. Getting the things done I have to do leaves me only a small amount of time for fun. All of my friends t…

...absolutely knows his $h! when it comes to subjects relating to Cobalts and/or forced induction. He's a local and is one of the first guys to turn his '05 SS/SC into a turbocharged car. He also got another guy on the local Cobalt/Ecotec board to turn his SS/SC turbo (in the process being finished up right now). He really does know his stuff and does his own researching on all this. Well the other night I had a dream. Here, I'll quote what I posted on that other board: After posting that, he told me that he's thought many times about getting rid of his turbo and swapping in a twin setup. He's done all the research and knows exactly what he would…

I haven't started many threads here, although I've been lurking around for 18 months or so. But something happened two days ago that I have been stewing about since. I have been selling Chevrolet for 9 years. Shortly after I started at the store I am at now, we got a new (to us) New Car Manager. This man was nearing retirement age and had been in the buisness, started as a mechanic, then in sales at a Cadillac store, for 30 years. He emigrated from Scotland with nothing and by the time of his death about 2 years ago was worth a few milliion, to be sure. This sales manager was with us for about 5 years and was the best manager I have ever met. He was honest, hard wo…

Five months ago this time, all we saw was Katrina aftermath footage. It was pretty grim. Most sickening was the dead guy in his lawn chair near the Superdome as well as the things that reportedly took place inside the Superdome. Now, we don't see much about it. In about a month, Mardi Gras will be around. People ask the question as to whether they should rebuild. I say "absolutely." I've been to some places but I have never been to N.O. because every time I was driving through on 10 back to LA, I had too much stuff in the car and did not want to invite "curiosity." New Orleans is an important city. At the mouth of the Mississippi, its harbor handles more cargo tha…

All of you know I am on the prowl for another whip for my son to drive and another toy I will enjoy and drive in addition to my SLE. My daughter who will be sixteen will then get the Chevy. The wife most of time drives the SUV. So I was looking at 98-02 Firebirds for some reason and started looking at prices! 3800 V6 powered models with low milage under 50K in great shape are only about 7-8K if you find a deal. I am wondering what you guys would think of one of these as an additional car. No doubt my son would love anything RWD (dounts and juicy burnouts) and those Firebirds with the V6 and sport package including twin tips out back are very attractive. I am wondering are…

Guiding us again this year is none other than NOS. As you can see, he's very excited, so lets not waste any time. Off we go. NOS enters through the Macomb hall doors and is overcome with a massive cloud of new car smell. He immediately passes out. Five minutes later, he wakes up to the bomb sniffing dog licking his face. To his left he sees the Accord Coupe Concept. Skeptical, he walks over. "Hm...it doesn't actually look like a bland turd" he exclaims. It confuses him as he actually finds it somewhat attractiv…

http://editorial.autos.msn.com/slideshow.a...amp;GT1=22008#1 Hot Wheels: America's 10 Most Stolen Cars By James Tate of MSN Autos It's a car owner's worst nightmare: stepping outside at home, office or grocery store only to find a pile of broken glass where the car was once parked. The police call it auto theft. We call it a pain in the . . . well, you know what. A car is stolen every 26 seconds in the United States, costing the American public nearly $7.6 billion each year. And if the National Insurance Crime Bureau's list of the most frequently stolen cars of 2008 is any indication, auto theft can happen to anyone. While it's no surprise that some cars are more li…

Cars Crushed in Street Racing Crackdown By GREG RISLING, Associated Press Writer Link to Original Artcle @ FoxNews RIALTO, Calif. — Charles Hoang winced when the whoosh went out of the tires. Daniel Maldonado took pictures with a digital camera as glass exploded and rained down to the ground. The cars the teens had so meticulously souped up and tricked out were crushed Wednesday as part of a crackdown on illegal street racing in Southern California. "That's my heart, my dream," said Hoang, 18, of Chino, who was surrounded by friends as his 1998 Acura Integra was put into a compactor. "That's my girlfriend, the love of my life. The cops can crush my car, but they can…

So I have another 900 mile round trip journey to make next week, but this one is for family reasons rather than work. I can get a rental car for $250 all in, and that includes the extra insurance. Using the standard mileage deduction, using my own car would cost me $486 (900 X 0.54)... assume that includes fuel. A $250 rental plus figure $100 in gas. The other kink in the chain.... the Buick really needs tires... It'll make it through this trip, but I'm nearly down to the wear bars. Those will be about $750 (I think I'm going with Triple-Treads and see if I can skip snow tires this year)

Well, a few weeks back, when I was working (getting carts actually), I saw this lady in a Pacifica totally run into the rear end of a parked Suburban. She was trying to just pull into a parking spot and totally NAILED it. She parked at the end of the lot 'til the 'Burb pulled away (without a scratch OR notification of the accident), and I got to see her dented/scraped quarter-panel and shattered headlight. Then, tonight, I ran up to the autostore that's next door to my work. I'm walking out and CRASH! This lady in a S10 ran into the "Handicap Parking" pole! She was trying to maneuvre around it, and ran into it, smashing her door, mirror,…

Forbes Times are so difficult for the auto industry that even Toyota and Honda have now experienced the kinds of double-digit sales dips that have been plaguing American auto giants General Motors and Ford all year. Sales for the entire industry were down 26.6% collectively in September as consumers grew skittish about making big-ticket purchases. In good economic times and bad alike, however, there are some vehicles that American consumers seem to abhor outright. And they're not just the big, gas-guzzling SUVs that are currently out of favor. It turns out, the cars American consumers hate the most come in many different shapes and sizes, and they're disliked for a w…

Good acts are hard to follow. Especially in the auto business. Maybe more so in the auto business, actually. The steady march of technology is sometimes nullified by more stringent regulations, falling profits, a change in focus, and sometimes just as a result of straight up flubbing it. So with that in mind, I ask you what your dream garage would look like if you were only able to use today's cars' immediate predecessors. The rules- 1) Production models only. 2) These are your only vehicles. 3) Maximum of 5 choices. 4) Any variation of that previous model is allowed, even if the exact trim was not offered again. 5) Your choice …

No, not the one with the Cobalt, but the one with the 2000 Malibu. While it was a pleasant car, her's wasn't the most reliable. So after 4 or so years of having it, she has traded it for a new car... her first since 97. So what does she get? That's right, a black 2006 Hyundai Elantra (her's not pictured). Not only did so go Korean, she got a black Korean. This is a changer for her since she's always had GM vehicles and always had lighter colors. As you guys would say, she has successfully moved to the dark side... literally. I'm going to drive it and get some pics sometime this week/weekend.

What is this? So... I'm trying to end the seemingly never ending saga of what is causing my Milly's engine to miss. We've been unable to really find anything wrong with it that would cause that. Yesterday, it suddenly got worse, where it actually stalled on me twice, while moving at that. It's never done that before. It still seems like its something with intake or one of the sensors. I noticed that upon shutting the engine off, it sounded like there was a vacuum effect. I had my dad listen for it to try to find where it came from. Seems that it's the air box. My dad messed around with it... Well, anyways, to finish, my dad thinks the problem could be that thing, w…

These days though I'd much rather read about how to install my BMW's 'cartridge struts' or overhaul a Nailhead 364 than anything with a microprocessor. Trouble is, my retarded cat sat on my laptop's keyboard. She does ALL the time... except this time she managed to rotate my screen 90* on my laptop's primary monitor. I run a two-monitor setup so I've just been using the other one but I can't replicate the keystrokes or undo the changed setting. Windows Help shows nothing under …

I've probably said I time or two how much I like the Fusion/Milan...especially the Milan, and especially in white. (I took some pictures and, once I get my phone data cable, I'll post them). I still like the Fusion/Milan and, at the present time, I like them more than the current Malibu. However, the way the next-gen Malibu is shaping up (on that sub-forum), I am fairly impressed. Fast forward: this afternoon, I went to a nearby dealership and was looking at the Milans. I asked the salesperson (he was not pushy) if I could open up a four-cylinder and start it up...and I was able to do that. The bottom line: the four-cylinder in the Milan is a little loud, despite …

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,317548,00.html "We are no longer citizens of the United States of America and all those who live in the five-state area that encompasses our country are free to join us,'' I found this to be interesting, i cant wait to see what the government does. Hopefully nothing to found of the lakotas - im living on land that violates the Fort Laramie Treaty of 1868 with the Lakota Nation. (Sioux Nation)

So, We were contacted by a TV producer from England. They produce a travel show that apparently is very big in England....it's on prime-time. Well, they are in Las Vegas filming an episode on the Las Vegas "lifestyle." They asked us for a Cadillac.....because, you know, Cadillac being a quintessential American car (from a bling-bling standpoint).....and Las Vegas being a quintessential American city (also from a bling-bling standpoint.) They were going to spend 30 minutes filming the Cadillac in and around Las Vegas, etc. SO....after weeks of talking with these folks, I showed up at the first location.....the "World Famous Little White Chapel" north of the Stri…

What do any of these 'concerns' have to do with USS Iowa? Its USS IOWA for crying out loud. What a great addition it would've made to a city as historic and vital to the Pacific Theatre as San Francisco... BTW, is this a recent thing or am I just not caught up with things?

I wrecked my Sierra today in the rain. Not nearly as bad as last time, thankfully. I cannot believe it, I'm in shock still, I guess. After leaving the BPG dealership to get an oil change/tire rotation, I was traveling on a double-lane road, in the left lane there was a guy ahead of me going really slow, like he was on his cell phone. I went to pass him in the right lane, the truck suddenly fishtailed out of control, I fishtailed 3 or 4 times (raining heavily at the time) but I couldn't hold it, I tagged a stinkin' 90 Jetta in the passenger front door... driver's side front corner of my truck, same as before, then I spun completely around and crunched the curb with my…

Im so confused on which midsize pickup to get. I test drove the dakota, tacoma, frontier, and canyon. I like them all. This is a very tough decision. I did a quick run down on what I think of these trucks. Toyota Tacoma Highs: Nice Interior, decent stock sound system, high resale value Lows: ugly exterior Nissan Frontier Highs: 265HP V6, sporty looking Lows: Interior isnt all that great, transmission didnt feel right to me Dodge Dakota Highs: Good looking, nice size Lows: V8 isnt to powerful, V6 is weak, heavy GMC Canyon Highs: Smooth Ride, 5 cylinder engine, off road rugged looks Lows: Price, 4speed auto, resale value sucks My heart tells me to…

I took a drive east up the Lake Erie coast towards the PA line, visiting a couple wineries and a couple of my favorite beaches..beautiful and sunny, but too hot (85). There was a VW cruise-in show in Geneva-on-the-Lake, saw dozens of vintage Beetles, buses, modern GTIs, etc in stock and restomod forms....maybe my favorite car of the day, though was a very clean gray w/ no vinyl top '71 Buick Electra 225 4dr ht. It needed whitewalls and some interior work, but appeared rust free. Another favorite was a bright red w/ matching steel wheels '72 Chevy Bel Air 4dr sedan..very clean, appeared rust free also. Saw a white '64 Ford Fairlane 2dr ht parked in a driveway, a dar…

I want everyone to sound off here, but this post is inspired by the fact that the Chevelle name will not work in this millenium. Leave it in the 60s and 70s, where it belongs.... That goes for Bel Air as well....kinda flighty for a Chevy, not to mention the fact that it screams 50s. And there should be no more Broughams or Landaus either. At Nissan, I think the Sentra name should die with this current generation...I'd switch to Pulsar, a name that's a lot racier. Out in Japan, I'd kill their trend of getting too Japanese with the names like Fuga and Tiida...I didn't see anything wrong with Laurel, Cedric, or Gloria (even though that name belongs to Pr…

Anyone going, from the Jersey or very east PA area, and if so, when? I have 2 packages I'm supposed to deliver, but I'm not feeling it in my bones to drive there & back by myself this year. Last year I slept over in my truck, but I'm not up for that again, either. Anyone willing to take a hitcher along? I don't care what day I go at this point; still waiting on a callback from package #1 guy.

When I was younger, I was an introvert. I had very few friends ... and didn't feel well liked, if even liked at all. Within the last few years, however, that has changed ... dramatically. I am now an extrovert. Yet, my current job (call center rep for an annuity contact center) is changing me back to an introvert. Most of the callers are unhappy about one thing or another (understandably, of course) ... and that grates on my nerves so much so that I have yet to go to a local cruise night this year. It doesn't help that I'm "tied to the desk" 24/7 while I'm at work. I get home and don't want to do anything; haven't even had the older 4 MCs out much this year. I cri…

Couldn't think of an appropriate name for the thread, but what type of cars did you absolutely hate before that you've warmed up to now? For example, I've never liked Hummers and always thought the H3 was a miniature H2 and ugly as sin. However, I now think the H3 is more appropriate in the everyday setting and more mature looking than the H2; I like it. List some vehicles you didn't like before that you do now.. this could be interesting (especially if you're an offender of liking the xA, xB, Fit, etc.).

Where to begin, well simply at the beginning, this trip had been planned for quite a while. We left Delaware and headed south on I-81 picking it up in West Virginia. Drove the 1st day to Knoxville, TN where my wife's sister lives and where the PCS 1st gave us trouble with the key locking or being grabbed by the ignition. Had AAA come and get the key out, on to Texas the next day. Always like to see those warning signs on I-10, for alligators. Stayed a few days at my mother's in Texas, we had a great visit with her. I seem to miss Texas a little more as time goes by. But wouldn't you know it the key issue reared it's ugly head again in Texas the night before we left, this …

The Thanksgiving holiday is but a few days away. Our family has been asked over for dinner by some friends from California, also living out of state, but in a city about 45 miles away. The obligatory shopping and doing of chores will take place on Friday and Saturday, and maybe there will be some time to drive around some quiet scenery to relax and get away. Hope everyone will have a nice Thanksgiving.

I was looking forward to Easter weekend to go up to my Mom's in Portland to be "pampered" a little bit. At any rate, I "turn in" in the downstair's bedroom (the guest room) where my Dad spent his last years so he didn't have to do the stairs and couldn't fall asleep! The damn mattress was ridiculously FIRM. My own mattress is somewhat firm, but it softens up nicely to adjust to body contours and the shifting of your weight. (Nothing special, just a $ 450 set). That right amount of sponginess, together with flannel sheets, and I'm asleep in 5 to 10 minutes as if I was under anesthesia. So, the mattress in my Mom's guest room screwed up my Easter weekend. What typ…

Seriously though, do you like em or hate em. Me personal I love them, the sights and sounds of one...very soul stirring to me, but hey im a science lover so I guess that would explain it. Living in north Texas provides me with great storms like the one we had tonight. When you hear the loud clap of thunder, hear the lightning rip through the atmosphere and feel it hit the ground and make the house shake...awesome. Also I don't think theres a more impressive sight on earth than going down the highway over a hill that looks over the city and seeing lightning spider through the sky.....well maybe Aurora Borialis :AH-HA_wink:

It's 2012 and alternative fuels are widely available. Ethanol has taken 25% of gasoline's market and Bio-diesel is common across the nation both as a motor fuel and for home heatng use. Fuel cell/ electrics are offered by all major manufacturers and home re-fueling is an affordable option for them as well as the increasing number of Hydrogen-fueled ICE cars. Record numbers of wind farms are operational, new nuclear plants are finally being built, and solar is coming into its own. CAFE really looks silly at this point. BTW: crude oil prices are dropping - steadily. So where will the automakers be?
