I know that maybe some of us read but most of the time i love to i just dont find time and i try my best to read alot of books. Anyway i re-read George Orwells 1984 and totally understand it at a new level. It never ment much to me but I finally understand how and why he wrote it. You guys have read it right or am i the only one. if you havent read it you should! and i wont ruin it for you unless some people really want to discuss it. Other great books. Grapes of Wrath The great Gatsby Catcher in the rye- Caufield reminds me of BV in a way for some reason A Walk in The woods - love it to death

I've received many complaints about me slamming people's car doors too heavily, in particular my friend's Mazda 3 and my sis' 323 (Protege). I just got so used to my cars with heavy doors. I personally like heavier ones, since it makes me feel safer. I'm always scared of sitting in cars with light doors, especially when you don't know when you will get side swiped. What do you prefer? Heavy or light?

For real. Here's what you need to do: 1. Set your system time to at least after coming Monday (3/27/2006, I set mine to 3/28) 2. Go to this link: http://eogld.ecomm.gm.com/dmdindex.htm 3. Click 2007, Cars/Light Trucks 4. You can actually get in and see 2007 info! So far there isn't much though. 2007 Aveo, Terraza, CTS, and some others are up. Oh, and the current Silverado is renamed Silverado Classic. So I think there WILL be a 2007 Silverado.

For the last two years the Sauber F1 Team mechanics have been using their downtime to slice a Formula One racing car lengthwise down the middle with the precision of true craftsmen. Chief Designer Matt Morris quite literally gets underneath the skin of the F1 car, pointing out where and how the individual components are located within the chassis. Everything is packed in pretty tightly. Sergio Pérez is also on hand to demonstrate the driver's seating position.

Now this guy really is beginning to bug me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uWomqEroBn8...porsche%20crash I'd love an old 70s Porsche 911 for a winter beater/SCCA car. Why would you destroy a car this cool? What's his fu$%ing problem? As far as the bitching about the layout of the dash I think this guy forgot he's English. Show me one British car from the 1970s that has a logical interior/layout. Nevermind that unlike a Jaguar that can't even start if the barometric presssure shifts 3% from when the car rolled off the assembly line at the factory, or an MG that rusts to death in about 8 months the Porsche 911 was an innovative car with one of the most su…

So OK, my neighbor (20-something with a wife and kid) comes running over and slams my doorbell. "Dude! Come look at my new car!" Poor kid's been trying to get out of an '88 Festiva he's been driving since his ZX2 engine died, which is fine... but he got... a...Scion xB. Dark blue. I mean, at least it's not one of those "special" colors, but omg. He told me to jump in, we took a ride around the block. I was hanging on to the "oh $h!" handle the whole time. He's happier 'n a hog in $h!. I'm kinda sad. You know that old joke about the kid on Christmas morning, throwing the toy aside while playing with the box? :AH-HA_wink:

HARWICH, Mass. -- Teens at a local high school staged a sit-in that ended with two arrests. "Respect. That's all we're trying to get out of it," said Ana Nocchi, a senior at Cape Cod Technical High School. Some believe the new dean at Cape Cod Regional Technical High School is too strict. Students staged the sit in after they were served only cheese sandwiches at lunch because they failed to clean up the day before. "They closed the doors and we couldn't leave the lunch room and she was standing up on stage calling us pigs and immature little kids and nasty," Nocchi said. A Facebook group organized the sit-in. Approximately 200 students gathered in school's main hall…

Brent Saba had just dropped a church group off at Philadelphia International Airport on Sunday morning and was heading north on Interstate 95 when it happened: His 15-passenger van ran out of gas. Saba, a 24-year-old church pastor, made it to the shoulder just past the Ben Franklin Bridge and waited more than 30 minutes for someone to stop and lend him a cell phone. Then he waited a while longer for AAA to arrive with fuel. With gas prices hovering at $4 a gallon, motorists like Saba are putting less fuel in their tanks — then coming up empty on the highway. Though national statistics on out-of-gas motorists don't exist, there's plenty of anecdotal evidence that dri…

Frisky's posts gave me an idea to do one related to something I want to do one day: cross country trip. So the rules are as follows: 1. You have to choose TWO cars: one NEW and one USED. 2. Cars have to be STOCK. 3. Budget for EACH of the cars is: New car: $40k. Used car: $20k. 4. Cars have to be comfortable and reliable enough to cross the United States from coast to coast at least twice (East to West and West to East). Have fun.

So, I have the slowstang as my daily driver. Pretty nice beater; 2001 GT convertible in true blue, but it's just not really my style. I have the oppportunity to buy either a 1999 Trans Am (high mileage, but well taken care of. Has C6 rims and is my favorite color- dark blue) or a 2004 3-door SVT Focus (mileage unknown, competition orange, needs a wee bit of body work) Here are the options: 1) "Keep the Mustang you fool. Eventhough it's an automatic and needs some work, it's a solid car and great cruiser. Plus you got a he'll of a deal when you bought it at 3-4K cheaper than BB." 2) "Dude! Buy the freakin' TA! As we get to the range where the first digit becomes a '3', we start to see a lot more diversity. In this bracket we have everything from mid-engine rockets, to benchmark sport sedans to AWD rally fighters, to entry level muscle and pony cars. Something for everyone! Rules- 1) Production models only. 2) Maximum of 5 choices. 3) These are your only vehicles. 4) Any era and market is allowed. 5) MFR's power rating MUST be AT least 300hp, but NO MORE THAN 399hp. Well, I more or less have my college picked out. I sent in an application a couple months back and was accepted within the next few weeks. Then a few weeks ago they sent me a $7500 scholarship per year for 4 years. Not bad considering it costs about $14,600 yearly.. so I more or less cut that in half. Anyway, it's called Kettering University, but is formerly known as GMI (General Motors Institute) Engineering and Management Institute. It's supposed to be a really good engineering school. My counselor got all wide-eyed when I told her I was accepted.. let alone getting a scholarship. She said that they're highly selective, but whatever. Anyways, her…

Detroit Free Press DCX: No option is off the table February 14, 2007 While promising to address Chrysler Group’s losses and make it a healthier unit, parent company DaimlerChrysler AG vowed that no options would be ruled out. The statement was made in response to a report out of Handelsblatt, one of Germany’s leading business publications, said Chrysler Group spokesman Mike Aberlich. Advertisement Some German shareholders have demanded that DaimlerChrysler sell the Auburn Hills-based unit, though most U.S.-based industry analysts dismiss the idea as turning away opportunities for further cost-savings. “Now for the Chrysler Group: The tough competition and the adve…

As of today, I have DSL. Oh what a wonderful thing it is. Sure, it's not the fastest thing.. but compared to dial up, it's a virtual heaven. I can actually watch videos without the 30 second pauses as it downloads only 3 seconds worth of video. As well, myspace's excessive ads no longer haunt me. Chris's habit of posting overly large pictures of debut vehicle no longer makes me whine about it everytime I chat with him. Downloading music can occur within minutes... instead of hours. Having to wait for my brother to get off the phone will never happen again. And porn... it just got alot more exciting. Also went from cable to satellite today, as well. My dad sort of we…

Rules are simple- 1) USED cars only, must be 2017 MY or older. 2) Maximum of five choices. 3) These are your only vehicles. 4) Choices must be realistic. When I moved to Michigan for the second time, I felt pretty comfortable with what I was going to be doing and what my plans were. "I've done everything before," I thought, figuring that jumping back into everything would be as smooth as a BMW inline-6. The move? Super smooth. The finances? Oh so silky smooth. Getting back to work? As smooth as that ticking, knocking time bomb that is otherwise known as the Quad-4 found in my first car. From the very beginning, nothing was working in my favor. Trends changed, routes vanished, and nothing was there for me to find it. The one day I did see something? I didn't have a long enough lens to shoot. Someone else did and gave the wo…

LOS ANGELES – Jewelry from two entire lines being sold exclusively at Walmart stores nationwide, including bracelets and necklaces branded by Miley Cyrus, contains high levels of the toxic metal cadmium, according to an Associated Press investigation. Testing of 61 samples purchased by AP reporters across the country from a Cyrus line and from a series of make-it-yourself metal bracelet charms indicated that 59 of the pieces contained at least 5 percent cadmium by weight, with 53 of those measuring 10 percent or higher. And the world's largest retailer knows the items are tainted. Wal-Mart Stores Inc. received test results in February showing cadmium in these jewelry l…

As of yesterday, and not without additional issues, the CRX is back on the road after a lengthy hiatus. I finally bit the bullet and ordered a new radiator for it. After arrival, I spent a good half-a-day putting it in and removing the A/C components in the process. The latter was almost a necessary evil since some of it completely blocked removal of the radiator. Since the system will never be used under my watch anyways, I decided to gut the rest of it as well and in the process shave 50+ pounds from the CRX. Once everything was in and checked for leaks, I set off on its first drive in three months. Ten miles into said drive, the radiator cap bursts. Luckilly, I bought …

Frankly, I' like some cheaper insurance, please. What I'm thinking: 1- Keeping my insurance as is for now ( I have AAA). My agent told me that cheaper rates are on the way. I know AAA is on the higher end, but one thing that has impressed me about them is that I have had great service, which is hard to find. I also believe you shouldn't always run to the cheapest rate all the time, because I have seen friend burned by doing just that.. 2-Taking a risk and trying something new (I pan to shop around anyways). I would like to find a company that I could stick around with for a while.....I'd rather pay a few extra bucks a month than pay out the butt for/after an accid…

My birthday seems to be fairly significant in American history, a few times. Interesting... June 19: * 1846 - The first baseball game under recognizable modern rules is played in Hoboken, New Jersey, United States. * 1862 - U.S. Congress prohibits slavery in United States territories, nullifying the Dred Scott Case. * 1865 - Over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation, slaves in Galveston, Texas, United States, are finally informed of their freedom. The anniversary is still officially celebrated in Tex…

About 8 years ago, I had the distinct pleasure of watching someone sit on the fender of my '81 MC SC ... uninvited ... at a local S Elgin cruise night. I slowly made my way back to my car ... and just stood there ... watching him ... wondering how long he was planning to plant his rear end on my car's fender. I didn't wait too long; his buddy suddenly noticed that I was staring at them ... and motioned for him to move. He looked back at me, shrugged and walked away. I didn't say a word, though when I saw him leave in a spotless older (late 1960s early 1970s as I recall) Dodge, I wish I had. You really think I'd have survived unscathed had I sat on HIS car? I thought since the car is now Fly's I'd post them for his & your viewing pleasure. http://globaleconomicanalysis.blogspot.com/ In a veto proof margin, no doubt enhanced by election political pandering, the House passes bill to sue OPEC over oil prices. The House of Representatives overwhelmingly approved legislation on Tuesday allowing the Justice Department to sue OPEC members for limiting oil supplies and working together to set crude prices, but the White House threatened to veto the measure. The bill would subject OPEC oil producers, including Saudi Arabia, Iran and Venezuela, to the same antitrust laws that U.S. companies must follow. The measure passed in a 324-84 vote, a big enough margin to override a presidential veto. The legislation a…

So I live about 2 hours south of Chicago, and today there's an article about the Chicago Auto Show, where they ask 4 or 5 "car people" some questions about which vehicle they'd buy in certain classes. How they picked them I do not know (one of them was a Toyota spokesperson, who of course answered with a Toyota product each time, didn't make much sense). Drew was also in the article, and it mentioned C&G. I can't find the article online or I would post it, but I thought it was pretty cool since it was an article written by an editor of the newspaper, not just some random article they took from somewhere else. EDIT: Here is a picture of the article:

I made my first omelet today for breakfast, and the results were kind of mediocre for my first try. I sprayed the pan and then mixed the eggs with a little milk and butter, and then poured it into the pan with the heat on medium. After about 2-3 minutes when it started bubbling up and forming together, I added some cheese and bacon bits to the top and then folded it over and then let it cook for a couple more minutes. But when it was done, it came out really thick (almost like a scrambled egg patty) and porous, unlike any other omelet I've had before. It tasted ok, but it broke apart easily when I pulled it out of the pan and it just looked kinda odd. How do you guys…

I'm in LA LA land for the weekend. Planned it (bought a ticket) a long time ago not knowing I would be here last month for the AIA convention. But that's ok, the convention didn't leave much time for So Cal "hanging out." Probably road trip here and there on each of the different days and see a college friend in San Diego on Monday. I'm about to go back to the rental car agency to swap out my Impala for something else. No "June gloom" in the AM which means the day will tend toward the hot. What are C&G-ers doing on the 4th?

So I was scanning eBay today and came across this: LINK I'll have to keep my eye on it. A far cry from the '85 Buick Skyhawk wagon I borrowed from my dad in my early driving years, but I still think it's cool!

Ok some of you wanted to know where I have been. Some have e-mailed, IMed, PMed and one person left a comment in my profile. I will admit I have not been myself lately; I have been more than a little touchy. Someone I talk to from here regularly said something on MSN Messenger that well to say the least pissed me off! I then decided to clean out my profile and take a few days to see if I wanted to come back. It's been a combination of things but none have to do with C&G, it's more me than anyone or anything else. I don't normally tell private things about me but in this case some of you have noticed so I will explain. Three weeks ago my wife (yes someone actuall…

I'm on one of the online dating sites, and I've actually met some nice girls from it. No relationships, but it's interesting. A few days ago, this girl bought me an online flower (which you have to pay for), and sent me a number of emails. She approached me, so naturally her interest level is quite high. I've talked to this girl a couple of times on the phone and she seems to like me. We're meeting tomorrow for dinner. Anyway, here's the problem. Just out of curiousity I asked her her height, and she said 5'10" I'm lucky to be 5'8" on a good day if I stand real straight. I told her I was 5'9" in shoes, and she said that she doesn't care. But I'm pretty …

In this edition you will pick 5 cars born without a VIN. Can be anything from a Sand rail powered by an air cooled VW motor to a top fuel dragster. Most kit cars would qualify, as would most brass era cars from the early days of motoring. You could pick something interesting like a vintage group B rally car, or a modern NASCAR stock car. Home built specials, engineering prototypes, factory concept cars, the sky is the limit. MSO from kit car maker is not considered a VIN in this thread. Eyes without a face.....cars without a VIN....what 5 cars will you pick? Factory 5 type 65 coupe, car #1. http://www.factoryfive.com/kits/type-65-c…

I'm going to California for 10 days with my wife in April. Landing in LA. Running up Coast Highway, Monterey/Carmel, Napa, flying out of San Francisco. Also doing a 1day Skip Barber course at Laguna Seca Was also considering renting an XLR or something, just for a day, but the cost is ludicrous. ($350/day). Now thinking perhaps a Mustang convertible for the week. Looking for some suggestions/advice: - anyone been to Skip Barber, any experiences to share - anyone know where I can rent an XLR/Corvette for a reasonable amount? - anyone know of anyone renting CTS-V's? - anyone care to suggest any 'must see' places/things in the LA area?(other than Hollywood/B…

From my blog: If the current recession has hit Germany, it doesn’t show. Walking around Cologne there is construction everywhere. New shops going up everywhere. The stores are busy and bustling. Germany has been careful to not outsource it’s labor force to foreign markets as much as we have in the US. If German companies need cheap labor, they set up shop in the former East German territories. This way, at least the GDP stays local to Germany’s economy. Why can’t we do the same thing here? Sure, we couldn’t pay the minimal wages we pay Chinese prison laborers to sew soccer balls with their teeth, but I’m sure there are willing laborers in states like West Virginia, A…

My Milly's ambient temperature display maxed out today. Okay.... so it only goes up to 99 degrees in Fahrenheit. But yeah... It's been so hot, especially today. It still hot out and its 1:30 in the morning. I'm roasting in my 80 degree room. My fan is useless as it just brings in more hot air. I need air conditioning. Either that or a large refrigerator to sleep in.

Well everyone around C&G knows I have thinking about another pre-owned GM car, I started thinking late 90's N/A Bonneville SSE, 02-04 Seville, 00-02 Firebird, then went onto 06-07 Monte Carlo's and now I have come full circle to the Cobalt/G5 and Aveo5/G3. For all the folks wanting to drop cheap shots at this boring FWD 4 cylinder economy cars, don't post! If you have a positive or constructive comments please post. I am really considering a new small GM car due to the tax write-off (a good idea from the White House) and want to help GM out again. I have been really considering the Aveo5/G3 (09 models only) and was wondering if I have gone crazy, going from a large ca…

I know I'm getting ahead of things, but I can't help thinking about the next "toy" I'll get after the Hawk is gone. Station wagon, 2-door Tahoe, El Camino... I'd really like to find something interesting and low-buck, you know, guilt-free cool. I really want to pump up the fun-per-dollar factor this go round. It could be a get in and drive cruiser, a project, even a curiosity. I just want something I can enjoy without breaking the bank. And, I'd like to be able to haul the pups around in it without worrying about them trashing it.

Okay, I know I'm going to get hammered, but I'm going to ask anyways.... First point- Wife has decided to keep her Cav. Does not want a new car. Surprised me, but wants to start saving more money for other stuff. Which is fine, so I'll just update the Cavalier (new ATF/Dex Shocks/struts) since it's pretty good shape for a nearly 7 year old car... Which brings to to my next point- I'd like to get a cheap SUV for the family, like for hauling stuff around, taking trips up north, so things like that. I only need two things-dependible and cheap ( and rust free). There's a good chance this thing will get upgraded anyways. Here's the trouble: Chevy Blazer. Why, you say? …
