FCA's second five-year plan had some interesting products for Chrysler, including a new compact called the 100 due in 2016. But there could be some changes in store for Chrysler's lineup due to current situation in the market. Allpar reports that investor presentation mentioned that Chrysler's future lineup was “under re-evaluation”. Causes for the re-evaluation include fuel prices going down and are predicted to stay there for the next few years, the increasing popularity of crossovers, and the decline in small car sales. The original plan for Chrysler in the second five-year plan included, Compact 100 sedan to be launched in 2016 Next-generation minivan to be…

Soaring Wrangler sales anchor slumping Jeep division David Aguilar | Associated Press | Link to Original Article @ DetNews DETROIT -- Apparently, the Jeep Wrangler is rugged -- and capable of hauling an entire division out of the swamp. The popular two- and four-door sport utility is coming off its best-ever May while buoying a slumping Jeep division beset by declining sales. According to Autodata Corp., Jeep sold 12,332 Wranglers in May, up 114 percent compared to the same month last year. For the year, 54,699 Wranglers have been sold, an 85 percent increase compared to last year. Strong Wrangler sales also helped fuel an overall 20 percent May sales increase for J…

Promotion Problem Minivan launch raises questions in Chrysler's marketing department By MARY CONNELLY | Link to Original Article @ AutoWeek | Updated: 06/05/07, 8:52 am et DETROIT -- Chrysler group dealers start ordering the company's 2008 minivans this week, and Chrysler's promotion of the vehicles raises several major marketing questions. For instance: In an era of crossovers and strong competition from Japanese automakers, how will the company position the redesigned Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town & Country in the U.S. market? And how will the company better define and differentiate its brands? Yet another question: Who will oversee the minivan launch…

DCX Considering Chrysler Group Sale? DaimlerChrysler reported third quarter earnings today of $686 million in net profit, but its Chrysler Group division dragged down that profit margin by posting a loss of $1.47 billion, a figure that completely erased the gain of $1.24 billion made by Mercedes-Benz. During a presentation today, DaimlerChrysler CFO Bodo Uebber didn't rule out the possibility that the Chrysler Group could be sold off. While far from saying the division has a For Sale on its windshield, Uebber told reporters, "We don't exclude anything here... We will do our analysis. Second, we will talk about measures. And third, we will draw our conclusions." Read …

Challenger Production Not Definite Yet It should be noted Edmunds stole my title idea. Bastards. Anyway, Chevy's not the only one who's holding off on a firm decision on making a popular concept a production reality. DCX has stated that contrary to rumors of the opposite, Dodge has not taken a stand on reviving the Challenger. They say they are still evaluating the business case and the car has not received the official green light. Put your tongues back in your mouths for now, Mopar guys. William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com October 29, 2013 Next week comes a bit of madness. I'm referring to the 2013 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show taking place in Las Vegas next week. The show gives automakers a chance to show what crazy things they have cooked up. For Chrysler, SEMA is where their Mopar brand can show off some of their new parts and accessories. Plus some crazy ideas as well. I had the chance to head down to Chrysler's headquarters in Auburn Hills, Michigan to see some of the twenty vehicles that will be at SEMA next week. For the past few years, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles CEO Sergio Marchionne holds a conference with journalists and analysts at the Detroit Auto Show, taking various questions. According to Motor Trend, Marchionne revealed that more crossovers are on the way for Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, and Ferrari. Alfa's Three-Row Crossover: Sergio Marchionne confirmed that Alfa Romeo is working on a larger SUV to sit above the Stelvio. He says this model is very important for the brand. As we reported towards the end of December, the model would use a stretched version of the Stelvio's platform and possibly feature a mild-hybrid powertrain. Chrysler's Pacifica-based crossover: It se…

Seven months after launch, Jeep spending heavily on Commander incentives By MARY CONNELLY | AUTOMOTIVE NEWS AutoWeek | Published 03/27/06, 8:29 am et DETROIT -- Seven months after the launch of the Commander SUV, Jeep is spending heavily to subsidize sales. Stratus out, Avenger in at Dodge Name change may not be enough to battle Asians By Brett Clanton / The Detroit News Chrysler is expected to yank the Stratus name from its Dodge midsize sedan when the car's replacement arrives in early 2007. The new vehicle will be called Avenger, a moniker last used on a Dodge coupe that was killed off in 2000, according to sources familiar with the situation. Chrysler officials declined to confirm the name change, which comes as the DaimlerChrysler AG unit is moving to toughen up the image of Dodge cars to mesh with the bold marketing of Dodge trucks. Analysts say the car, even with a new name, will face challenge…

Chevy Silverado vs. Dodge Ram vs. Ford F-150 vs. Toyota Tundra We see it every Friday during our evening commute. A stream of vehicles choking the freeway, headed out to the Mojave Desert or the Colorado River for some well-earned weekend stress relief. The fun varies, from camping to dirt-bike riding to water-skiing. But the vehicle that invariably gets tasked with hauling the corresponding equipment is a full-size pickup truck. You know, like the 2009 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, 2009 Dodge Ram 1500, 2009 Ford F-150 or 2009 Toyota Tundra. Sure, we talk about the virtues of the minivan as a family hauler, and there are many. But the minivan stands no chance against…

Here is the latest from Autoblog on the Challangers price. Autoblog.com: One of our readers pointed us to this page over at Dodge's website that contradicted our earlier post about the 2008 Challenger SRT-8's pricing, which was originally announced at $37,995 (including the $675 destination charge). We realize that inflation is a cruel mistress, but a bump in the sticker to $40,095 left us scratching our heads. A few emails back and forth between the people at Chrysler revealed that the SRT-8 was slapped with a $2100 gas-guzzler penalty that accounted for the discrepancy in price. Not a real surprise considering the 425 hp 6.1-liter HEMI V8. As a comparison, however, t…

Chrysler puts '06 vehicles in used lots Automaker allows dealers to add deep discounts in effort to unload cars and trucks Josee Valcourt / The Detroit News In a last-ditch effort to unload 2006 cars and trucks, Chrysler allowed its dealers to designate the new vehicles as "loaners" for as little as one day before selling them as used for steep discounts. The unusual sales tactic came at the end of May as the Auburn Hills-based division of DaimlerChrysler AG was trying to finish the month on a strong note. Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep dealers can use new vehicles as loaners for test-drives or for customers who need a car while theirs is in service. In the past, dealers …

As the Ford Falcon and current Holden Commodore head off into the sunset, Australian police departments are wondering what should replace them. V6 models were used for patrol duty, while V8 models would be used for pursuits. One possibility is the Chrysler 300. “With the going away of Australian manufacturing, from potential fleet customers we’ve had a lot of enquires for the 300,” said Steve Zanlunghi, head of FCA Australia to Car Advice. “Specifically we’ve had the police come to us, asking for a bid, if it would make sense.” Zanlinghi didn't mention whether the police were interested in the V6 or the 300 SRT with a 6.4L V8. Our possible guess is that the…

Dodge engineers have begun testing their four-door spin-off of the next Chrysler Sebring. Whether it will be called Stratus or Avenger is a subject of speculation, but there is no doubt that it takes its design inspiration from the Dodge Charger. Although the resemblance to its Sebring platform-mate is clear, the Dodge gets a distinct front fascia, a unique C-pillar design and - judging from the camouflage on the rear fender and door - a Charger-style rear fender arch. The prototype's taillights are also finished almost identically to those on the Charger. When viewed in profile, the new Dodge has a more formal rear window slope compared to the Sebring, which features a …

UAW goes on strike at Chrysler Bill Vlasic | Link to Original Article @ The Detroit News DETROIT -- The United Auto Workers launched a strike against Chrysler LLC this morning after all-night negotiations failed to produce a tentative agreement on a new labor contract. UAW members took to the picket lines at Chrysler plants in the second walkout against one of Detroit's Big Three during this year's contract talks. Bargainers for Chrysler and the UAW worked through the night in a marathon session at the company's headquarters in Auburn Hills, but were unable to agree on critical issues of job security and health-care funding. There was no immediate comment from Chrys…

U.S. sales of the Chrysler 300 surpassed the 300,000 mark in April 2006, making it the quickest Chrysler brand vehicle to reach the milestone in 25 months. This comes on the heels of another Chrysler brand achievement: global sales of the Chrysler PT Cruiser exceeded one million units in March. http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/060427/deth022.html?.v=50 Well, so much for the people on here that were so sure that the 300's sales would tank after the first year......and also, so much for the people who said retro and the PT Cruiser were dead!

The Chrysler Sebring has been a major league disappointment since its introduction in 2007, but execs at Chrysler headquarters have promised that a new, better midsize sedan is on the way. The photo to the right is not that magical new Chrysler, but is what appears to be a warmed-over version of the Sebring we already have. The most obvious change arrives at the hood, where the Sebring's ungainly washboard ribbing is replaced by a smooth surface. There is significant camouflage covering the front bumper and lower fascia, but due to some un-kept grass, we can't see any details. The Chrysler experts over at Allpar say that the updates will mainly improve aerodynamics and re…

I was just wondering if the Grand Chaerokee interior is as bad as the reviews have said. I mean early reviews said it had soft touch materials, but more recent ones said everything is as hard as a rock. Does anyone own or been inside one that knows? I'm just curious I guess if there's anything besides the seats that are soft.

I was able to check out a Caravan as well as a Town & Country last week. For a more extensive review commenting on it's minivan values, see Empowah's thoughts on it, here. Starting off, I found the design to be decent; lacking, but not a complete turn off as certain other minivans are. The front ends are much more upright than the previous generation and is squared off. Proportionally, the Caravan's fascia is more even, and certainly better looking, than the T&C's with its large grill. The headlights of both are more horizontal and angular, as well as being the most unique from each other, than before. The midsection of the body and greenhouse is probably the cl…

Can Chrysler survive? The frailest of Detroit's automakers has been in private hands for a year. CEO Bob Nardelli badly needs a hit if the company is to endure. The Illness When the U.S. economy catches a cold, Detroit gets pneumonia, or so the old saying used to go. These days it's double pneumonia, and the business is on life support. Besides being caught in a cyclical downturn brought on by the subprime lending crisis, the U.S. auto industry is going through a secular transformation caused by the spike in oil prices. Goodbye, high-profit pickups and SUVs; hello, breakeven (or worse) small cars. All of the old Big Three are suffering, but none like Chrysler. …

As Fiat Chrysler Automobiles continues its cooperation with the federal investigation into its falsified sales, they have begun to issue restate monthly sales results. They reveal that the Chrysler 200, a midsize sedan the company was hoping to be a success was even less popular than we first though. Automotive News reports that in a three-month period from July to September 2015, FCA reported that it sold 21 percent more 200s (8,577) than the new numbers. To put this in perspective, the second-largest discrepancy in sales was the Dodge Charger with 2,258 over-reported sales. "There was a lot of pressure on the 200 to offset the loss of sales from discontinuing…

Does the Dodge Aspen nameplate garner anything other than a snicker from true auto fans? I can only hope that there will be a Dodge Aspen Volare edition. http://www.chrysler.com/aspen/ now, I know that it is merely a rebodied Durango, but it really is kinda nice looking. My only question is: do you think the Aspen name was a wise choice considering the previous vehicles that the name conjures up?

The information about the Caliber just keeps pouring out of the Dodge website, it's making me want the vehicle more and more. The model that I built on the website came to a total of 17,500 which is 2.5k less than the vehicles I want (Mazda 3s hatchback, Chevrolet HHR 2LT). Not a bad deal. So has anyone heard anything as far as the release dates, actual size comparisons, interior pictures?? I've heard from some people that it's actually a little smaller than the Neon which is kinda hard to believe.

Fiat Chrysler will abandon its 5-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty in the United States for the 2016 model year in favor of a 5-year/60,000-mile guarantee. The move follows a similar change in March by General Motors, which reduced the 5-year powertrain warranties on its Chevrolet and GMC vehicles from 100,000 to 60,000 miles. “Following changes already made by competitors, FCA US is adjusting powertrain warranty coverage for 2016 model year vehicles to be more consistent with industry practices,” FCA said in a statement to Automotive News. “For 2016MY, Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge and Ram Truck vehicles with gasoline engines will be covered by a 5-year/60,000 mile powertr…

0-Day 4-Door Wrangler Supply? Jeep dealer Chuck Eddy in Austintown, Ohio, was used to waiting until spring for Jeep Wrangler customers to show up. When autumn came, sales of the old two-door Wrangler would pretty much dry up. That's because the previous Wrangler, sold with two doors only, was a "box on shocks," a rough and ready vehicle with a drop-down top and side windows made of plastic. It was noisy and the ride bouncy, but it could go anywhere. Wrangler drivers got closer to the elements than drivers of other vehicles. All that changed when the 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited four-door arrived last fall. These days Eddy has zero days' supply -- in the midst of a …

A few pictured from the Barrie autoshow in Ontario. Taken by polish_kris. Ok, I know it looked dumpy in the official pictures, but in real life its pretty nice. The parts that look odd are the headlights, the hood, and busy looking trim. If you see it from far away, you might think its a Crossfire. Some of the plastics inside were a little poor, but overall it was really well executed.

NOTE: The objective of this thread is to show you a good chunk of photos and sketches that those "pay and see" jerks over at Car Design News won't show you in their Design Development features. I will possibly bring two other concepts from Daimler Chrysler or another automaker in a series. So stay tuned and read. Dodge Challenger Concept Design In January 2006, Dodge introduced the Challenger Concept at the 2006 North American International Auto Show. The design drawed heavily from the 1970 - 1974 models. From different sources, here are some sketches and photos of the concept version of Dodge's entry into the revived and red-hot Pony Car segment. This sketch was done …

Edmunds Full Test Dude! Dodge is making that?" "Huh?" "That thing you're driving. It's a Dodge?" "Yup. A Nitro." And so it goes with the 2007 Dodge Nitro, which, in R/T trim, is perhaps the most striking midsize SUV sold today. We drove Dodge's latest creation from L.A. to Vegas and back and fielded more questions, confused gawks and outright stares than the last Lamborghini we drove home. People in L.A. and Vegas know Lambos, but they've never seen anything quite like Dodge's stubby, flared-fender, fat-tired creation. It's the proportions that get the attention and, ultimately, make the look work. The high waistline with huge wheels and a wide stance covered by agg…

CNN Story Jeep unveils two compact SUVs Though they are officially "concept" vehicles, the Patriot and Compass could see production soon. September 12, 2005: 12:54 PM EDT NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Jeep unveiled two concept vehicles at the Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany today that, a company executive said, hint at a worldwide portfolio expansion for the off-road brand. While both vehicles are relatively compact, with roughly 104-inch wheelbases, they offer distinct personalities. The Jeep Patriot has the tough, off-road appearance for which Jeep is known. The Jeep Compass concept has a softer, more wagon-like look. The company boasts of the high fuel-e…

Well, my CV axle boot was torn on my 500 (not sure why) but they scheduled the service but didn't have the part. So, I got a loaner for a day. Enterprise dude picked me up in a Mazda6 but I made sure to do anything in my power to not get that steaming pile of turd hot carl to take home. So I asked and got the Magnum. I could have got a Grand Prix (should have) and the damn Kia Sedona got back in the lot just as I signed the papers Anyways, I'll try and sum it up tomorrow after I turn it in. It's a 4 speed v6. I'm gonna read Bob's 300 review too and see if there are any similarities. One thing I can say with certainly is that the interior is ABYSMAL. Terrible. G…

Chryslers pile up Company pushes excess cars on wary dealers Brett Clanton and Josee Valcourt / The Detroit News DETROIT -- You may have seen them and thought little about them. But those huge parking areas throughout Metro Detroit filled with row after row of brand-new Chryslers, Dodges and Jeeps have become a source of friction between DaimlerChrysler AG's Chrysler Group and some of its dealers -- and a symbol of just how hard the automaker is pushing to maintain its sales momentum. In lots at Detroit Metro Airport, the Michigan State Fairgrounds, the Pontiac Silverdome and other locations, Chrysler has stockpiled new vehicles -- many of them loaded with expensive …

I went to a factory sponsored Ride and Drive Event today for Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep. It was like 2 miles from my house, so I'm like, 'sure'. Since I was able to check out a lot of the Chrysler Corp models and sit in them and drive them (albeit in very short low speed courses), it sure shaped some of my opinions on their products. It would be hard to satisfy the forum gods and get it all in one post so I will try to keep my initial posts to this one and two more and then if anyone has comments.

According to Stuart Schorr, Senior Manager of Sales, Service and Dealer Communications, Chrysler minivan sales may be down, but retail demand is actually stronger. His article in The Firehouse (blog) indicates that, compared with their long-wheelbase brethren, the Chrysler has increased retail sales by over 75%, while the Dodge has gone up over 25%. He wrote, "The total reduction in Chrysler minivan sales is solely because of planned fleet reductions and not any consumer trend. In fact consumers are demanding more minivans." The moderately popular and less-expensive short-wheelbase minivans were dropped when Chrysler and Dodge moved to their 2008 models. Source: Allpa…
