Subject to recall are 54,217 vehicles in two models, including the Harrier sport utility vehicle. First, Lentz said that it would have been wiser to build a three-row crossover first, and not the image coupe RC. "In hindsight, if I was making this decision 10 years ago, seeing what I see today, the three-row [crossover] probably would have been the better play to come out first," said Lentz. The three-row crossover would allow the brand to hold on to the Gen Y crowd as they begin to have families and begin looking for a larger vehicle. Now Lentz doesn't say the RC is a mistake. "We are working on a number of solutions to offer low CO2 emissions, and these include a small hybrid," said deputy chief engineer Koji Sato. The new GS, possibly to be called the GS300h will use the 2.5L four-cylinder hybrid powertrain found in the Toyota Camry Hybrid and Lexus ES 300h. The 2.5L hybrid powertrain produces a combined 200 HP and return a combined 40 MPG on the ES300h. Source: Auto Express View full article

Many local salvage yards/towing companies have bought Hinos for roll-back truck duty and they are showing up in large numbers as delivery trucks. 71. UAW pushes to organize Kentucky Toyota plant Sholnn Freeman | The Washington Post | Link to Original Article @ DetNews GEORGETOWN, Ky. -- Dissident workers at the Toyota plant here gather at the Best Western Georgetown on Wednesdays between shifts to shape a battle plan. The workers are angry at conditions at this flagship Toyota site, where the best-selling Camry is built. The United Auto Workers has launched a big new push to organize the plant, trying to capitalize on fears of lower pay, outsourcing of jobs and on Toyota's treatment of injured workers. The stakes for the UAW intensified this month as a private-equity firm agreed to buy Chrysler, raising fears that t…

  72. Lexus IS-F racer actually a 2004 Opel Vectra DTM car? Posted Jan 21st 2008 4:57PM by Jonathon Ramsey Remember that luscious Lexus IS-F racer study that received its fair share of unrequited attention the Tokyo Auto Salon? According to AutoBild, it turns out the car isn't an IS-F racer at all -- well, at least not beyond the hood and fact that it has four doors. The German paper reports that the car is actually a Lexus reskin of a 2004 Opel Vectra DTM racer (above, top). Even the engine is from the Opel DTM car, and not a Toyota V8. This could explain why no one at the Lexus stand at the salon would say a word about the car. So Lexus might get away with never clai…

What do you do if you are a Japanese company and you have an American president for your American motor sales division? If you are Toyota, what happens first is you recall over 7 million vehicles, then, as if things couldn’t get worse, you post a loss of over 1 billion dollars due to repair costs, and finally, your stock, which has been in the dumps since 2007, boasts a clear 2-point thrashing on the stock market. All this corporate demolition isn’t over yet. Because of trust issues, Toyota will be dealing with poor sales and customer rage for well over the next decade. Estimates postulate that so far, Toyota has lost 2.47 billion dollars (that’s billion with a capital B…

Aston Martin boss Dr Ulrich Bez has told the producers of the James Bond movie franchise he will no longer pay a product placement fee to see the world's most famous spy drive a car from the British brand. Instead, the producers of the next Bond film are believed to be considering product placement money from ... Toyota. Bez says the British brand [now owned by US giant Ford] has the style and substance to bring unmatched credibility and publicity to the Bond franchise. He says that Bond in a Toyota Camry would do little for publicity or credibility. The dilemma for producers of the Bond films is that other car makers are prepared to pay millions to have Bond…

While driving back from one of my friends in Atlanta I saw a Turdra for sale at a CHEVY dealership. Now it would not have caught my eyes if it was the older one, but it was the 2007! That's right, the "used" BIG 2007 Turd was on sale at a Chevy dealership . Wonder which moron bought it and decided to get rid of it in less than a quarter year. If GA has taxes like FL does, that dude spent 4,000k only on taxes in less than 3 months, provided he bought a similarly equipped Silverado, wow what an investment. I am going to check and see if Autotrader has a listing for this Turd. That was priceless.

Another friend of the family had a 2006 Camry that he leased last year as a closeout. Guess what he just got - A PULL AHEAD letter from Toyota buying him out of his lease and putting him in the 07 Camry! He took the bait. I can hardly think that this is a coincidence! So, my question in this: Has anyone else seen/heard or experienced this? Is Toyota trying to move…

  99. The LS's Perfection Pursuit Slower Than Expected It's just a blurb, so I'll post the whole thing: The Lexus LS 460 fell short of its claimed 0-60 mph time of 5.4 seconds in a road test in the latest issue of Car and Driver magazine. The C&D testers couldn't get the car to complete the sprint in any less than 6.0 seconds. Braking distances were also unusually long. The car took 209 feet to come to a stop from 70 mph, the magazine said. That's nearly the same as the GMC Seirra's 210 foot braking distance. The new Mercedes S-Class, by comparison, takes 172 feet to stop from the same speed. Read "Lexus LS 460 performance numbers disappoint" @ Leftlane News
