Describe a car that you think would be desirable? What would be your perfect next car. How big would it be? How would it be powered? Describe it's overall shape and its interior and the color you would choose for both the inside and outside of the car. Which bodystyle would you choose. Feel free to invent body styles that still do not exist. And of course, how much chrome would you like on your car, and where?

I'm wondering if there is a really good online site to use to build a vehicle as if one were placing an order with a dealer. I'm not interested in pricing as much as I am packages and free-flow options. Specifically looking for GM vehicles to build... used GM's own site for many years, but it always seems I can't select certain items or select items do not appear. TIA!!

Wow, it's been a rough week. Got worse when I got home though. While I was gone, someone decided to steal the Catalytic converter off of my Cavalier. Somehow, I get the feeling that they are not done yet. And 320 or so to replace. I've noticed that the locals are quickly sapping up my love for cars....

Okay... a few days ago I saw a minivan being driving by a 40s-ish guy. The catch? There was a bumper sticker on it that said "Marriage? Yes! One Man. One Woman". Ever since, I can't stop thinking that I should put my own bumper sticker on my Millenia... just... what, though? Yes, it'll be tacky, cheesy, etc... but so what? I need some way to get back at all the homophobes that drive around.

I found this pic of a Cadillac/Buick-Pontiac-GMC dealership in Vancouver WA. What do you guys think? Going forward, do you think this type of efficient bundling of brands would allow the brands to remain distinctive? I actually do. That's providing the dealership features separate entrances for the brand showrooms and separate service advisors/areas for Cadillac owners & BPG owners. The backend would benefit by using the same lot, management, including the service/technician dept and facilities. The distinction would remain but make it convenient for BPG shoppers to "browse" Cadillac and eventually trade-up. It would also allow Cadillac to move more toward…

OK, thawed out a huge chunk of premium hamburger. Fired up the indoor 18,000 BTU gas grill and formed some supple, thick meat patties. Cooked them medium well over the hot gas flame and briquets. Hint of CHAR. Still a bit juicy. The 600 cfm hood could barely keep up. Gotta get rid of the critters before you put that meat in your mouth you know. Thawed out a nice wheat bun and a couple of my mother law's home made (with LARD!) buns. My mother in law has great buns. Lightly toasted. No ketchup bull$h!. CATTLEMAN's Smokehouse barbeque sauce, gobs of it. Normally Famous Dave's is the way to go with barbeque sauce, but not for burgers. Either…

The road to hell is paved...and striped and called Kennedy Blvd. in Tampa. Swerved to avoid a Galant who herself swerved to avoid some baglady who felt like walking out in front of traffic and I caught a ridiculously raised manhole cover. Sure enough, it put a whole in my oil pan. Bad news: it'll cost £1100 at the shop in labor alone. Good news: pan itself, I can get for £40. I'm going to attempt to do this with a friend of mine over several days next week (I have a Monte Carlo rental now). Sigh...

So I started the day off by tweaking the default C&G banner to better integrate with the spiffy new layout. Next up I brought the Intrepid around front to detail it in prep for what I was hoping to be a photo shoot for the calendar. Spent an hour or so detailing it and the wheels. Then I dragged out my "new" shop vac and gave it the most thorough vacuum its probably had since I bought it. So much better to do when you're not putting coins in the slot! No sooner had I just finished all of this and got the tools put away did my dad show up. We're finally getting rid of the `86 Caravan LE and the Town and Country. So I had to help load up various bits of junk that were…

Anyways, I thought this was a strange question, but heck, I figured I'd throw on here... A friend of mine is coming back from Japan with his girlfriend, who is coming to live in the US.... Well... not really... but help me buy one. I'm finding the increasing need for a truck/SUV. I have never been a fan of them so I don't know much about them. I'm looking for a good used deal. Here are the criteria: 1. Has to be Big 2.5. 2. Has to be full sized. I need to put big things like doors and appliances in it. 3. Would *like* a diesel, but not a deal breaker. 4. Would *like* 4wd, most likely a deal breaker. Edit: I'm keeping the CTS. This would just be a work truck for tending to my apartment buildings.

Purely informational for those of you in the market for notebooks: based on the reliability of my Inspiron, I'd advise you to definitely give Dell's competitors a good look. I recently found that the model I own is the victim of a design defect - I now have to replace my hard drive and processor after 13 months of ownership. The cause of this - which I am sure is common with all notebooks (to a certain degree) - relates to an excessively hot battery and a lack of some heat barrier. Unfortunately, my battery was not covered in that massive recall nor has Dell felt the need to notify owners. This diagnosis was made by an on-site Dell tech, who also stated that this is a…

Dear all. My better half LOVES Saab - and she is trying to find a suitable SUV to replace her aging (180k miles) Expedition. We recently found out that there is up to $7,000 rebate on the 9-7x, which puts the car SMACK in the middle of Explorer and Equinox price range. It also allows her to have the best of both worlds - an SUV that can tow and is a real BOF SUV and a Saab (she is a Texan - do not question her on her love for BOF ) We have been looking around and all the models available are the 4.2l I6 models ... but that engine is fine as far as reliability and such goes - I had the impression that it is a bulletproof and smooth engine ... anyone wants to weigh on…

Is anyone here knowledgable on buying a car out of state? Alot of the vehicles I've been looking at have been in a state outside of PA. I haven't found much of anything locally. In all likelihood, I'm going to end up with something out of state unless I find a sudden streak of luck. Thusly, I was wondering what the process was for buying out of state and getting it registered here. Does it differ much from the usual registration process? Are there any extra steps that I will need to take?

It's nice here in Dreamland. It's the perfect place. Cars, guys, money... Perfection. I like it here. Anyways, I've been thinking... In the next year, there's a few things I'd like to get done. As I noted, there has been an addition made to our driveway. I've posted about this car in particular a while back, while my friend was trying to sell it. Long story short, he no longer has a place to keep it. We have a big yard with lots of room... What's one more? Thus, it's technically not ours. Since he was unsuccessful in selling it, he sort of wants to fix it up and get it back on the road. It runs about as well as the Cutlass, perhaps a bit better, but isn't in nearly as good of condition. If we can get it to pass inspection (it atleast needs brakes), this might help my situation, effectively giving me another car to drive around in. This is a big "IF", however. …

It flew through the air, flipped over, and landed on its roof. It then slid for about 20 feet. It looks totaled to me. Here's where she wrecked:

Top 10 recently canceled vehicles that should be brought back. We're going to get a poll going on this, but first we need some candidate submissions. Here are the rules: Each person can submit ONE vehicle (or vehicle model line if there are multiple body styles) It has to be from a brand that is still in business today (it can't be brought back if there aren't dealers to sell it at) It must be from within the past 10 model years. Include your submission and an explanation of why you think it should be brought back and why it should not have been canceled in the first place. I got this idea after seeing three in a row of a vehicle that will likely be my submission..…

C&G Curse Drifts To Kentucky

At around 8:20 PM this evening, the Curse hunted down our Saturn Aura. We were in our local Dairy Queen parking lot when a white Dodge Neon backed out and sucker punched our one month-old car in the left-front quarter, leaving a nasty dent in the bumper cover, leaving the hood off level, and creasing the left front quarter panel. The damage doesn't seem to inhibit the car's ability to drive and function properly, but then again, we've all heard a certain tale of another car famous to our forums having similar damage and declared to be totaled by the insurance company. And all of this coming just two days after we also washed and detailed the car and just one day before…

Crossing from PA into NJ on Route 1 today. Old man in a beige Camry merges into the right hand lane. Only problem is, there is an old Volvo 240DL wagon there with me in the left hand lane. The Volvo tried to merge into my lane, squishing me into the jersey barrier. We of course slam on the brakes, swerve as much as we can and avoid the accident, but we hit a major pot hole. Alignment is out of wack, the under engine cover is torn off and there are squeaks from the sunroof and passenger door now. Going to the dealership this week.

C&G Curse?

I got out of my house this morning to discover my car was hit and run. The driver's side of the car was sideswiped from behind, leaving a gash along the rear door, quarter panel, rear bumper, and rear wheel. More worryingly, though, is that the alignment is off; the poor thing now veers right. The Passat has a twist-beam rear axle, and I'm guessing the beam is bent. There really aren't any rear alignment settings for it (I just had the car aligned a few weeks ago, along with new rear shocks). Anyone know if a rear beam can be knocked back to spec, or am I looking at a new axle? I don't have collision insurance coverage on it.

I have a bicycling issue, I was hoping someone on here could help out, I know some of you have mentioned biking as a hobby in the past. Basically, I've spent the last 2 years doing short, intense rides, a couple of hours at a time over hellacious terrain, and my body is used to it. My issue is, I'm going to do a charity ride (Start to Finish MS, anyone want to donate?) in September , it'll be 80-100 miles each way (dont know the route yet) and I'm worried about trying to turn myself into an endurance cyclist. Today, I went on a 40 mile ride, that frankly didn't go well. My ass was in the most extreme pain I've felt in years and my back didn't feel that greta either. …

I have decided to make a Tight Whips sort of club thing. This time it is for any designers or photchoppers. I can make you a little sig saying that you are a member as well. You can use or current sig but even better would be if you could find a preliminary sketch of any car or even your own sketch or photochop and use that if you wish. This will be the official list....1. American_Revolution_2005Just copy and paste the list before you and add the number and username. We'll see what we can do from there on. Got any suggestions for anything such as maybe a suggestion forum or whatever. We'll see what we can do and see if the admins approve. ANy suggestions are welcome.

OK So I was thinking...if C&G had a panel of 5 to discuss things, who would be on it? We want it entertaining and provacative in the spirit of Barbara Walters, but we also want it to have a shot at decent ratings without resorting to stunt casting. So who? My pick: Satty Reg ocnblu trinacriabob Croc Honorable mentions go to: YJ, Nick, Northie, The O.C. Who would your lineup be?

So Oldsmoboi, when can we expect to see some reviews of the vehicles GM is allowing you to drive? I'm anxious for your report on the '10 Equinox (especially if it was a 4cyl model). I think it's great GM extended this to you and the other mods participating, and I know I can't wait to read what you guys think of your time behind the General's latest offerings. Thanks!!

Every so often I like to remark that this place, for all its turbulence what with the economy, GM's restructuring, and differences in political opinion, is still an excellent discussion board. Here's what a good chunk of e-forums can be like. For what it's worth, the article that people are commenting on is about CPU performance. http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i...p;cp=1#comments Warning, there's some naughty words, and you might find yourself questioning evolution, and/or creationism, and whether or not humanity is doomed for eternity.

Whatsup guys, I know I'm kinda new to the forums, but just wanted to say how I have seen a lot of skill in the showroom section, with people chopping, specially Nos and Plumcrazy (sorry if i mispelled ur name), and i was thinking how the people on this forum should get more into chopping and designing cars, and especially in the contest section. I think even if the majority of people on this forum might not know how to chop cars, you guys still should give it a shot, because it would be cool to see maybe more than 6 or 7 entries in the contest. I would like to see probly like 15-20 entries, i mean out of more than 1,000 people on this forums, only 6-7 make contest c…

Alright, so the big All-GM Nationals show at the Carlisle Fairgrounds in Carlisle, PA is coming up on June 20-22. In The O.C.'s post, I mentioned that Camino and I previously talked about getting a C&G Gathering together there in 2008. I have yet to speak with him about it further at this point, but this post is to gauge interest among those of you who'd like to travel to Central Pennsylvannia to attend this awesome show and be part of a much larger C&G gathering than what's occured anywhere else to date. As I mentioned already, if we have 25 GM cars/trucks register as a "car club", we'd receive reduced admissions costs, get to park inside of the show/on the s…

G. David Felt Staff Writer Alternative Energy - www.CheersandGears.com C&G Hottest Rides List! The goal here is to have members post what they would have on a list of hottest rides. Anything is a go, yet with that said I would like you to look into your own history of auto's and what you feel would be respectable rides. We can always do a list of ubber luxury hot rod rides, I would like this to be more of a common persons ride list. With that I will start it off with what I would have on this list: 1987 Monte Carlo SS Aero Coupe 1987 Buick Regal GNX Grand National 1991 GMC Syclone 1992 GMC Typhoon 20…

So I live about 2 hours south of Chicago, and today there's an article about the Chicago Auto Show, where they ask 4 or 5 "car people" some questions about which vehicle they'd buy in certain classes. How they picked them I do not know (one of them was a Toyota spokesperson, who of course answered with a Toyota product each time, didn't make much sense). Drew was also in the article, and it mentioned C&G. I can't find the article online or I would post it, but I thought it was pretty cool since it was an article written by an editor of the newspaper, not just some random article they took from somewhere else. EDIT: Here is a picture of the article:

I'm excitied and proud to announce that myself and Smallchevy will be attending the South Florida Auto Show Friday, November 9th on behalf of Cheers & Gears. During the pre-show press events, we'll have the opportunity to Bryan Nesbitt (GM Vice President of Design North America), John Howell (Director of Marketing, Cadillac), and Troy Clarke (President of GM North America) as well as being there to see the world premiere of the Cadillac Escalade Hybrid. Please let me know if you have any questions or comments for these gentlemen and we'll be glad to ask or share them on your behalf.

C&G IRC Introduction Before major updates, C&G had a chat function that was great for our members to communicate in real time about anything be it topics on the forum, or just shooting the breeze. It was especially handy if you need to give directions or ask/answer quick questions. However, that function was unstable, and caused plenty of problems. However, there is a way to talk with members using Internet Relay Chat which is a tried and true method for e-talking over the the large series of tubes called the Internet. All it requires is a 'client' and a little finagling to get set up and running. Many IRC clients exists, and they all do the same things but …

Well, I think it'd be interesting to see who's met with who? Today I met with AAS at NAIAS. He seems like a good guy. Well, $h!, he has a Camaro SS! Can't go wrong with that. I've hung out with Josh a few times too. And he also has a sweet ass car. And one day I'll race Sixty8 and another I'll talk cars with Cort (who I've talked to on the phone). I think I talked to CSpec on the phone once too..

So this past Wednesday CSpec and I met up for the first it. It was great meeting a member from the site, we need to do this sort of thing more often. We hung out for somewhere around four hours, talking about the site, our cars, and playing around with his new camera. So of course, since cameras were involved, I took photos with my own.

Thought I'd start a thread in the spirit of the old Cheers and Jeers threads that looked back at the previous year here at the forums. 2006 may not have been a great year in reality (do we really have to go there?) and here at the forums (server problems among others), but there are still plenty of good things we can highlight. For example, here's one of the first designs posted in the Member Showcase section for 2006 (that have image links that still work, anyway) by budding C&G designer, member, and Designer's Guild Founding Member, American_Revolution2005 (this actually predicted the 2008 Magnum refresh in many ways -- way to go, man). So start posting about 20…

Guys, "LA CAR" an online automotive website about the southern California car culture will be at AutoBooks in Burbank tomorrow, Saturday, 3-24-07. If any of you have time, come down between 11am and 3pm. Located at 3524 West Magnolia Boulevard in Burbank, AutoBooks is Southern California's largest automotive bookstore and one of the best places for car enthusiasts to hang out on a Saturday afternoon. It's not unusual to see celebrities, car designers, and others in the industry stopping by (Jay Leno is a regular, who I've seen there before myself.) AutoBooks has been around since 1951. It was begun as a mostly mail-order sideline by Road & Track staffer Harry…

So. on monday I had the afternoon off and was running around town trying to get some stuff done. I am taking a couple classes up at NDSU this fall so i ran up to get everything paid up and ready to go. I get all of it done quickly as I am parked illegally in a parking lot not far from the union. I hop in the Impala and back out of my spot, put it in drive and am about to head forward just as a professor in a brand new lexus ES backs right into my door...............went through the whole reporting thing and went to go get an estimate.......$1300, and her insurance company doesn't even know if they are going to pay for it because it was a parking lot accident. OK, this is getting ridiculous. Coming home from work yesterday, traffic was slowing as is normal during rush hour. I was in the fast lane, having just slowed from 60+ miles per hour to about five. I didn't even see it coming behind me - a woman in a white 96 Maxima didn't notice that traffic had slowed, and plowed into the back of a Land Rover Discovery, who must have been right on my tail. He smashed into my car, and dazed, I rolled into the guy in front of me: This is the guy who hit me. Not too bad - he did break his washer fluid resovoir: This is what he did to me: And this is from me hitting the guy in front of me. The nose of my car is actually n…

The Curse hits lots of people every year it seems but I think that this year I am entitled to the bragging rights associated with most cursed. I'd be interested to see if anybody can beat this, it's just been one of those years. In addition to the two incidents with my 07 Impala this year, there were actually many other curse related incidents I didn't share, and now at the end of the year, totaling the insurance damage, it's something spectacular. This year's total: APRIL 9, 2010- I was rear ended at a stoplight by a Camry in my 07 Impala causing $1200 in damage requiring a new rear bumper and bumper shroud. JULY 12, 2010- Biggest hail storm in terms of insurance da…

I figured it spark some discussion to post the people in the top 50 posters overall who don't post in the lounge the most, as most members do. The CA Assembly voted 74-0 to revive the state's so-called 'sideshow car seizure ordinance' that had lapsed in January. The law authorizes a police officer to seize any vehicle he wishes by asserting that it was involved in "reckless driving" on a street or in a parking lot. That State will keep the vehicle for not more than 30 days, naturally accumulating all sorts of towing, impoundment, storage & admin fees in addition to fines up to $1000. Arrest, likewise, is allowable. Punishment of siezure is imposed withOUT any finding of guilt by jury or judge. In addition, Oakland, who lax record keeping of the result of this initial law led to it's discontinuance, has repo…
