I don't usually drink coffee, but I had lunch at a local sandwich shop this afternoon, and they had a little sign board on the table for their flavored iced coffee, so I tried it. It was good, but I was a jittery mess for about 45 minutes after 1.5 glasses of it. I honestly felt high. How is this a good thing?

A fitness thread... Anyways I know that many of our members who are active on the forum are also some fitness freaks...and I should also consult a doctor on what I should do/go to reddit, but I realized that this place is much better in terms of the variety of folk we have here. So guys right now I am a size 34 waist on my pants & shorts. I'd like to be able to fit in my size 28-30 pants like I could just 15 months ago... I went out for a light jogging/walk the other day. Now I haven't done any kind of jogging/running for a long time...maybe like 6 months. The day before yesterday was when I did my jog. I would do intervals. I realized like I fe…

I sooo want this.... 2006 XLR with 1,639 miles I want to just drive up to the dealer and trade my Buick in right now... It's odd. I don't usually have a desire for RWD, two-doors, or convertibles... but I've always wanted an XLR... all the way back to the EVOQ concept. They're "becoming" reasonable now. The price on this one is great IMO.

Well, I finally purchased a project car after wanting one for at least 13 years. Here were my prerequisites: RWD, Manual, T-Tops or Convertible, Sporty, Cheap. I looked at a few cars, and was willing to make sacrifices if needed to. I looked at F-Bodies, G-Bodies, BMW 633's, Volvo 244's, and a few others that I decided against. Well, I'm going to play a game, who can guess the car? It met all of the above requirements. If y'all don't guess it quickly I will start to give hints. And technically I haven't bought it yet as it is still in another city.

Yesterday at work I rode with one of my co-workers to lunch in his '07 Lexus GS450. And after work, a bunch of us went out to a bar and I rode in an older Lexus IS300 (probably an '02 or so). My impression after being in both: what's the big deal? Especially the GS...the interior plastics were hard as a rock and grained no better than a Cobalt. I've also been in a new Avalon and Prius and neither impressed me as far as interiors go. I'd say the Avalon was the best of all mentioned above, however. This brings me to my second point. Why do all car manufacturers do big swaths of plastic now for the doors and dash? My Lumina has cloth on the doors and some type of s…

I will miss the QE2. So will millions of others. I sailed on her out of NY going transatlantic once. It's something you will never, ever forget....the tugs pulling her out of the Hudson River pier, passing the WTC and the Statue of Liberty, and clearing the Verrazzano bridge. Last month, she left NY for her last crossing to the UK. She then left Southhampton (England) on Nov. 11 to make her last trip to Dubai where she will become an entertainment venue/hotel. On the 13th, she was in Lisbon...the 14th Gibraltar...the 16th Rome (port of Civitavecchia)...the 17th Naples...and the 18th Valletta (Malta). She will never moor in Europe again, as she heads for Egypt, the …

I wonder what's up with that? I've been on a hockey kick lately, so I decided to pick up NHL 09. (for ps2) I've played quite a bit of NHL 07, so I knew what to expect. 09 was a disaster, loading for anything took forever....so I gave up and got NHL 08. 08 is close to 07, so figured it should work fine. It works much better, but it freezes up during games ( I have yet to finish one) I know I had issues with the slim, and I even blew the dust out. It plays WWE wrestling, Nascar, and kingdom of hearts fine. I haven't tried 07 yet, but I will. Should I expect these games to freeze up?

I have not been around as much as I would like as of late, I have been busy. Working on landscaping the house with my son. We decided to do-it-ourselfs and got two new cars instead. Huge ice island could threaten shipping lanes Another Titanic? Scientists scramble to plot path of massive chunk that broke off Greenland STOCKHOLM — An island of ice more than four times the size of Manhattan is drifting across the Arctic Ocean after breaking off from a glacier in Greenland. Potentially in the path of this unstoppable giant are oil platforms and shipping lanes — and any collision could do untold damage. In a worst-case scenario, large chunks could reach the heavily trafficked waters where another Greenland iceberg sank the Titanic in 1912. It's been a summer of near biblical climatic havoc across the planet, with wildfires, heat and smog in Russia …

I asked this on a couple other forums I go to but I still havent decided which one I want... We just got them in Canada. Sirius seems to have some better talk stations, but XM has a better variety in music (from what I can see in the 3 day trial). Also, with XM I can sign up using a US address and get ALL the channels. Because of Canadian laws, if you sign up to the US service you miss out on a bunch of them.

To all you mothas out there. Ha. Hey though, what are you guys doing for your mothers today? You'd best not forget her, or she'll "accidentally" put something red in the washer with your tighty whities so they come out pink! For the last few years, I've been taking my mom to Baltimore's Inner Harbor for lunch at Legal Seafood, then a stroll around the harbor attractions. This year it's cool and cloudy with the threat of rain, so we're sticking close to home. I just hope we can find a restaurant that's not packed.

If you've been eastbound on the Cross Bronx Expressway, you may have seen this written on a billboard: Dear Steven, I hope I have your attention. I know all about her, you dirty, sneaky, immoral, unfaithful, poorly-endowed slimeball. Everything's caught on tape. Your (soon to be ex-) wife, Emily. PS: I paid for this billboard with OUR joint bank account. As soon as I noticed that no brands, products, or services were mentioned on the billboard anywhere, I was awe-struck. But really, I have nothing else to add. This just speaks for itself. Also, scroll to the last part of this article... I had a feeling it'd make news. I'm also corrected on the exact wor…

OK, I've about had it. I never have time or a big budget for a personal stylist so I always end up going to the less expensive walk in places for a hair cut. And as much as I try to establish a relationship with ONE person who gets to know my hair and the way I want it, its inevitable. New person every time. I thought I had one...she was so sweet and cut my hair beautifully. Then, I think she got married and quit her job. I'm hurt. She left me. Now i had to get my hair cut by someone new. Different cut every time. And its never a great style. I guess that's what I get when you gotta go cheap and easy. Its like trying to find a long term relationship vs. sl…

Notice anything? I've decided to stick a bumper sticker on my Milly. It's unique in that I made it myself. Course, it's an actual bumper sticker, I just had no way of purchasing one like it. So I went into one of my photo editing programs, changed it from black to as close to my Milly's color as I could. Then I printed it out, water proofed it with clear tape, bought some double sided tape, and stuck it my bumper. It's a bit outdated, but atleast it'll get the message across without being obvious like a rainbow sticker or such. I just had to do something to combat the BS I've seen, heard of, and had to deal with in this town.

So, next week I am headed off to Denver for a few days. I'm leaving Tuesday night and am coming back on Sunday morning. A cousin of mine lives down there and since I have the week off from school, and don't have a ton of work to do on the farm, I thought I would take a few days and take a trip. I talked the girl I am kinda seeing into coming with me, and besides a trip down to Colorado Springs on Friday to visit a friend of our's, we have no idea what else we might be doing. So...any of you that have been to or live in the Denver area, what are some cool things to see while there? I'm driving down there in the Suburban, so it is going in for an oil change and a t…

So the Bonneville is in need of repairs and has numerous annoyances at the moment... much more than I'm willing to pay for. Plus, with two kids, I'm out of space when it comes to traveling. Ergo, I'm seriously looking to let it go and move into something bigger. As the thread title suggests, my budget is really low, to the tune of no more than $8000. Now I realize that most of the vehicles I look for in this price range will be high in miles, but there are some reasonable examples out there on a miles-per-year basis. So, fellow C&Gers, here's my short list in order of preference: 1) GMT360s, preferably with 7 seats. Pros: Not a weak engine in the bunch, space, …

It's 2012 and alternative fuels are widely available. Ethanol has taken 25% of gasoline's market and Bio-diesel is common across the nation both as a motor fuel and for home heatng use. Fuel cell/ electrics are offered by all major manufacturers and home re-fueling is an affordable option for them as well as the increasing number of Hydrogen-fueled ICE cars. Record numbers of wind farms are operational, new nuclear plants are finally being built, and solar is coming into its own. CAFE really looks silly at this point. BTW: crude oil prices are dropping - steadily. So where will the automakers be?

man was washed up on a beach after a terrible shipwreck. Only a sheep and a sheepdog were washed up with him. After looking around, he realized that they were stranded on a deserted island. After being there awhile, he got into the habit of taking his two animal companions to the beach every evening to watch the sunset. One particular evening, the sky was a fiery red with beautiful cirrus clouds, the breeze was warm and gentle - a perfect night for romance. As they sat there, the sheep started looking better and better to the lonely man. Soon, he leaned over to the sheep and put his arm around it. But the sheepdog, ever protective of the sheep, growled fiercel…

A used one, anyway - I haven't figured up savings and incentives on new vehicles. According to this article, the resale value of a Chevy Tahoe has dropped by 17% in the last year. Assuming the for-sale price of a used has dropped a similar amount, that extra money buys a lot of gas. A used Tahoe that was $40K last year, according to those numbers, would now cost $33,200. Let's compare that number to purchasing a Lexus RX400h. They're currently selling used for what a Tahoe would have cost last year, about $40K. The Tahoe gets about 17 combined city/highway MPG. The Lexus, 29 MPG combined. Let's say gas remains stable at $4.29/gal (a big assumption, I know). If you d…

JERUSALEM - In Israel's ultra-Orthodox Jewish community, where the rule of law sometimes takes a back seat to the rule of God, zealots are on a campaign to stamp out behavior they consider unchaste. They hurl stones at women for such "sins" as wearing a red blouse and attack stores selling devices that can access the Internet. In recent weeks, self-styled "modesty patrols" have been accused of breaking into the apartment of a Jerusalem woman and beating her for allegedly consorting with men. They have torched a store that sells MP4 players, fearing devout Jews would use them to download pornography. "These breaches of purity and modesty endanger our community," said 3…

For the first time since I've had all 4 older Monte Carlos (1972, 1976, 1979 and 1981), I drove EACH of them at least 1,000 miles in 2009. I came close to that milestone in 2008, but fell just shy. Now, all 5 of my Monte Carlos are "sleeping" for the 2009-2010 winter ... awaiting their 2010 debut. 1972 MC STATS: 11/28/08 mileage ... 144,986 11/22/09 mileage ... 146,054 miles driven 11/28/08 to 11/22/09 = 1,068 In 2009, "Browny"'s odometer surpassed the 145,000 and 146,000 mileage markers. miles driven 12/11/04 to 11/19/05 = 563 miles driven 11/19/05 to 11/24/06 = 497 miles driven 11/24/06 to 11/18/07 = 489 miles driven 11/18/07 to 11/28/08 = 957 miles driven s…

Procrastinating doing work for work, and on Carmax since they take multiple pictures of every new vehicle on their lots. Thought I'd check out a new Avalon... ...not sure why... ...just curious. What do I see? Scrooling through, first confirmed how literally this "all new" Avalon really is the same old car since '05, but with some chrome trim, a few different mold shapes on the plastic, and yep, same "okay then..." build quality these have been known for in the past few years. Not the greatest. Admittedly, it's a small piece, and not uncommon. But a brand new $36k Avalon Limited, dealer taking pictures, and they snap one of the sunroof with the trim ring inside hangi…

Paulie's "Edmunds" Review: 1992 Buick Century When most people think of a family sedan, they think of the Toyota Camry, the Honda Accord, the Hyundai Elantra, or even a Ford Aspire, but many fail to consider Buick's Century (because we tell them not to). The Century, part of an aging design on a decrepit body, using GM's tried-and-true, super-old crappy, err, I mean OHV, 3300 engine, is just one of the offered engines in the lineup. Families trying to save a penny here or there can stick with the anemic standard 4-banger (and boy does it bang!), 110-hp engine, but most will opt for the 6. The 3300 delivers 160 mediocre horses, and 185f…

Find the man among the beans (EDIT: look for a head). Can you find the man within 3 seconds? According to medical experiments: If you can find the Man's Head within 3 seconds, your right brain is more developed than normal people. If you can find the Man's Head within 1 minute, your right brain is developed normally. If you can find the Man's Head within 1-3 mintues, your right brain is slow in reacting, you should eat more meat protein. If you can find the Man's Head in 3 minutes or more, your right brain is a disaster... extremely slow in reacting, the brain is losing it's ability to perform normally. ______________________________…

I understand the concept that everyone gets to choose what they really love to drive... But it blows my mind that so many people, working at GM for many years, choose from the dark side. Of course, if YOU were scooping up a nice GM check and benefits, ya think you could find ONE vehicle in the GM stable to drive to work??? At the Tech Center in Warren, they have designated parking decks in which only vehicles of the GM family can park. The other guys have to park aways out, and brave the elements to trudge all the to the bldg. Some losers drive crappy ricers and park close anyway, where they shouldn't. I'm just glad I made no comments when I went in to the house. I could have offended her. But think about it. What other car company sells a vehicle with an interior that can be hosed down? GM had the Envoy XUV, for a good $20k more than the Element sells for. They also had the Aztek, which was a similar concept, both in form and in function. And pick-up trucks, well, in general it's not a good idea to keep a dog in the outer compartment of a moving vehicle.

I spent a few hours at Barrett-Jackson today...great cool, cloudy weather. About 1300 cars this year...nice selection. In the main exhibit hall, Ford and Chevy had some large new car displays...incl. lots of 2012 and 2013 Mustangs...the '13 Shelby GT500 and Boss 302 were particularly of interest, along w/ the '12 versions.... interesting styling changes on the '13 Mustangs. Amongst the new Chevys, I got to see the Spark, Sonic, '13 Malibu, and Camaro ZL1 in person for the first time... sat in the new Malibu..pretty nice inside, but the rear seat area and rear door openings seem very tight... As far as the vintage cars being auctioned, beyond the usual dozens of Cama…

Toyota Motor Corporation announced today the Japanese launch of the Auris*¹, a strategic compact passenger vehicle for both Japan and Europe. In Japan, the Auris is available through “Netz” dealers nationwide, replacing the Allex and Corolla RunX. The new Toyota Auris will be revealed in Europe at the Bologna Motor Show on December 5 and will go on sale in the UK from February 2007 and across Europe in spring 2007. Auris will join Yaris and Avensis as a new core model designed and built in Europe … more Originally considered only for Canada, it may now be offered in the US as well, although Toyota Motor Sales has not yet confirmed either market. Note the Japanese-mar…

When I talk to someone about buying American cars, the subject always falls back to "I bet the TV that you are watching in not made in America, so what's wrong with owning a Camry?" There is only one response to this "apples/oranges" retort; "If there was an American made TV, I would buy it. But our government and big business has sold out almost EVERY manufacturer to other countries, that I CANNOT BUY an American made and owned TV, even if I wanted to." As far as vehicles go (probably the second largest purchase most of us dwindling middle-class Americans will make) I can make a conscious effort to purchase a car from an American-owned company, one of the last items w…

We have a Prius in the shop with over $7k in front end damages. We needed to order some fairly obscure parts for it, and things were sort of slow today for drive-in estimates, so I took the damaged parts down to the local dealer to help out their parts guys. While I was there I had a service question our technician wanted me to ask, so I stopped by the service counter: "Hello, I work at "" in the bodyshop, and we have a Toyota... oh, what model is it... the golf cart one? PRIUS! That's it. We need to know the cooling system capacity so we can make sure everything's right when our customer picks it up. Can you help me with that?" "Uh... sure sir, let me look that u…

I was in Wally World picking up some supplies for my century ride this Saturday, and I came across this in the toy section: As much as I love the Solstice and hate to see it disgraced like this, I nearly busted a gut laughing so hard in the aisle. People passing by had to think I was insane.

I was at Exxon tonight filling up the Riviera which I just got back from having a new coil pack, spark plugs, wires and brakes done...and while I was filling up, a young girl probably in her early 20's pulls up to the pump opposite me, she was driving like an '01 Accord coupe....anyway she gets out takes a look at me, then the Riv and says "nice Jag" I laughed to myself and just said "thanks, I try to keep it clean"

What would you guys think if we offered forums for sponsorship with a small link to a sponsoring site, i.e. Would this be too obtrusive or diminish from the C&G experience? Just FYI, this would not lead to every forum being sponsored. This is currently just one forum, likely the Ford forum.

In the wake of the popularity of the Lambdas and GM's switch to crossovers in favor of minivans, C&D has this on their front page: "Why buy a crossover -- Five concrete reasons to buy a minivan instead." (Including, SURPRISE, GM's best selling Lambda as the poster child for and a subject of the article) LINK: http://www.caranddriver.com/features/14267...-crossover.html Do I think this is a direct result of the Lambdas and their popularity? Probably not. Do I think it might've weighed into C&D's decision to write the piece AND use GM as the poster boy? Absolutely. Notcie how all of the japanese companies are merely tranferred sales from one model to another. Ye…

Have any of you done an E85 conversion? If so, was there any issues? Any after market group that is better than another? Costs? The proposed car; 1995 Caprice 9C1 (LT1 engine). I know there will be alot of people apposed to it and I do want to know why. Please note it's not about the cost, but rather the reduction of oil use. My wife really wants the car and the only way I can justify it is by not using SO much gasoline (environment and national deficit).

DETROIT - Detroit’s automakers went out with a whimper in 2007, as a lackluster December failed to pull the industry out of the lowest U.S. auto sales slump in nearly a decade. Ford Motor Co. was knocked from its perch as the No. 2 U.S. auto seller, a position it held since 1931, while General Motors appeared likely to lose its title of the largest automaker in the world. Both were dethroned by the juggernaut that is Toyota. Toyota Motor Corp. sold 2.62 million cars and trucks in the U.S. in 2007, which amounted to 48,226 more than Ford, according to sales figures released Thursday. Toyota’s sales were up 3 percent for the year, buoyed by new products such as the Toyo…

Britney Spears, Tom Cruise, Lindsay Lohan, Kanye West, Terrell Owens, Paris Hilton, David Beckham. Who are these people and what are they to you? Well, that’s easy, they are celebrities. They are rich and famous; they are amazing people – right or wrong? Obviously that statement is right. Photographers make millions of dollars to follow them around and find out what’s going on in their lives, and it’s so easy for them to do it. These celebrities put their entire lives out on the street to sell themselves; they’re basically whores, all of them. But that’s fine because these paparazzi are making their cash and we’re just soaking it up. “What happened to Paris?! No way…

Oh my. The folks who had the Yaris and xB moved out of the other half of the duplex and two chicks are moving in. My first clue was the other evening, I was mowing and they were on their deck. One ordinary, the other a bit of a stand-out with a do-rag and football jersey (but not overly butch). Then this evening, the one girl's dad was there doing some carpentry and he mentioned in passing that there will be two dogs, one belonging to his daughter, the other to "her girlfriend". WHAT SHOULD I DO ABOUT THIS??? :AH-HA_wink:

Gatherings and events seem to be picking up steam in terms of more and more possibilities the last few years with, in most cases of which I'm aware, increasing attendance. Heck, this weekend (October 3-5) alone, I knew of 3 gatherings... ...southern Mini Reunion for ValveReplacement in TN ...gathering of the "Florida chapter" of the Southern Monte Carlo Club in Tallahassee ...and a MidWest MC meet in St Louis. I had planned to attend the St Louis gathering, but I wasn't feeling well Friday...and ended up being sick Friday night and didn't do much at all today (Saturday). Next weekend, I have a gathering in Sandwich IL to attend. Then, October 18, is the Fall …

I'm not keeping this one forever. Once I feel the time is right, I'll have to have the replacement ready. My first thought was a huge question mark. So give me some ideas, and don't be too nasty (yeah, right). Have fun: at my expense, at GM's , or be serious if you like. You never know what might end up as the perfect idea.

the list of names for when i snap that is... behold and cringe with disgust, hate, and malice... so much malice... Though the most popular vehicle destroyed under Cash For Clunkers was the Ford Explorer, there were also AMGs, Rolls-Royces and even a LaForza crushed. The ten most exotic cars that fools parted with below. Click through if you dare. We'd point out these vehicles have to have been insured and driven for a year, so it's not as if these were merely broken shells of these exotic makes. Someone had to destroy a roller for, at most, $4,500 off a new car. Click next to see what cars were destroyed, how much they originally sold for, and how rare they were. …

The Cobalt's brakes just committed suicide. One minute I had brakes, the next... *grind, shake, screech, clank* It feels like the front pads decided to disintegrate. It was very sudden. I knew I would probably need brakes soon, but I certainly wasn't expecting that. I haven't had any time to inspect them, but needless to say, it can't be driven like this. I have half the braking power and its very obviously doing further damage by the sounds and vibrations its making. I hear and feel more from the left side, so it may just be the front left. Another random issue: My ignition release is being screwy. Turning off the key requires hitting the shift lever a few times before…
