Every once in a while, you'll come across a situation that just brings out a special part of you. That f@#king Cutlass. So, this morning for work, I went out to start it like usual. Opened the door, sat in, set the worthless choke, start the engine, and get out. When I close the door, I hear a clunk as it bounces back open. "What the f@#k?!" Try it again, same thing. I inspect the latch and jiggle it a bit, figuring it might not have released completely. Try again. *clunk* Well, isn't that that special. Play with it some more and try again. *clunk* Mind you, it's about 15 degrees out and I have to be at work in 10 minutes. My patience is being tested. I grab a sc…

Picture your self now driving in a 94 Silverado with a 350 going down a curvy road at about 55mph your exhaust gets really loud and it sounds sweet. Then a Exhaust mount breaks and sparks start flying out from out of the back of your car. About 2 seconds later it rips off and barrels down the road. The guy following you sees that a exhaust is coming towards him and he swerves out of the way then drives into the ditch. I think "Oh F*ck" shut my lights off and floor it. I park my car at my work place since it was down the road and drive back with the Beater ghetto work truck. It took less than 15 minutes to do this. I pull over as the "good samaritan" and Ask "what happened…

Yup, its November 21st and I am done. We took the wagon out and picked up the last of the stuff we needed from Toys "R" Us, then went and got some other nifty stuff and now the closet is full of toys and other fine wares. The best part? Everything is paid for.

I got the idea from today's Autoblog post on the new Fiat Doblo Work Up. With all the love for a small, compact pickup here and elsewhere on the interwebs, would a vehicle like this -- a small commercial van-based truck -- work in the US? I don't know anything about trucks, and how they're used, but on paper at least, it seems to fare pretty well. Doblo Work Up bed size vs. Ranger 2dr bed size L: 90.6 in vs. 72.7 in W: 71.7 in vs. 54.2 in (40.5 in between wheels) H: 13.8 in vs. 16.5 in Doblo payload: 2204 lbs Ranger payload: 1580 lbs Doblo 1.6 Multijet = 105 hp @ 4,000 rpm, 214 lb-ft @ 1,500 rpm Ranger 2.3L I4 = 143 hp @ 5,250 rpm, 154 lb-ft @ 3,750 Personally…

To borrow a euphemism from our outgoing administration, "major combat operations have ceased" and the wagon is back together other than some minor details. So tomorrow the mess gets cleaned up and I will start moving the other vehicles around to more workable positions. I'll leave a bay open to finish up the odds and ends on the wagon. Nice to finally be at this point.

From LX Forums Twas the night before Christmas and caught at the light. Up pulled a rumbling V8, and no cops in sight. I will try, I will try, with this little 4 banger. To beat this damn Magnum, with it's big HEMI motor. As the light goes to green, and I pull like no joke, The Magnum erupts in a big cloud of smoke. "Rev Smasher!, rev Twister!, rev Stroker!, rev Blitzin!." I yelled to the names of my 4 VTEC Pistons. Racing ahead, I'm the star of the action, but I'm in deep ****, when that Magnum gets traction. I grab second gear and the RPMs sing, And my mirror is blocked by my shopping cart wing. I now hear the roar of the big HEMI gaining, All I can do is …

Maybe I'm one of the only ones, but I enjoy cruises that include _driving_ ... not just sitting & walking around looking at parked cars. The Sunday I returned from my road trip to the Eastern states (August 21), I attended the Elgin National Road Race Show, which included a "lap" that followed the old Elgin National Road Race. With that in mind...& knowing that high gas prices will be a factor, is anyone interested in doing a "weekend cruise" of sorts...? We'd drive a scenic route. One is in Illinois [I can plan routes for WI & IN/MI if anyone is interested]...people can meet up with us anywhere along the way... * IL RT 20 …

As my mother ages, she's gotten pretty frightened of thunderstorms, especially if there is a tornado watch involved. She lives in a trailer park, and keeps her little place neat as a pin. I guess having seen some of the destruction on the news over the years from storms in the midwest, has hightened her awareness. I usually use humor to try to calm her, and try to cite probability to show her that she'll be OK. Friday night, a tornado that was embedded in a thunderstorm, along with some destructive straight-line winds, blasted through her area, to within a mile of her home. She lost power, and said she heard a thunderous, constant roar for a while, but that she didn'…

http://jalopnik.com/5185281/study-women-more-attracted-to-men-in-expensive-cars We have a rather motley attraction of rides here at C and G, and this thread is for fun more than anything. What kind of female (or male) should be attracted to people who post here based on their ride? What kind of woman would be attracted to a guy who squirrels away 1960's Pontiacs. or collects Miatas, or drives an old Intrepid, or a Cobalt, or whatever.... This is our chance to make fun of ourselves... Who wants to fire the first shot? Chris

I'm trying to type this with my left hand since my right wrist is imobilized. Made a rare trip to see a doctor today to confirm the bad news I already thought was coming my way. Right now, I can't do any of the things I usually do to make a living and am supposed to start some harsh physical therapy after "resting" my arm for several weeks. This is not in the budget. Worse, it is spring and my best chance to generate some decent level of income just evaporated. Sometimes things just suck. Sorry for not getting back to you, Olds. Been a bit fixated on this.

Yesterday, I finally began work on the electra. I started by sanding down all of the rust on the passenger side and spraying it with semi flat white auto enamel. Today, im going to continue doing that u tillall of the rust is gone. Then im going to use body filler to fill in the dings, small dents, and a few holes i discovered. then im going to repaint. Finally, its going to the paintshop for a new coat of paint. As, money flow increases, the nasty rear quarter damage will get removed. After the exterior, theres only a few mechanical things to get done. The interior just needs a headliner.

I got a car last week on Monday the 7th. It was a clean, blue 1993 Beretta GT auto with the 3.1 V6. It had one spot of rust that was only on the surface and it only had 165,000kms on it. I got it for $1200 as is. Now I would've posted pictures if my camera wasn't on the fritz. One problem now, on the way to get the car emission tested, my dad was driving up the street in our neighbourhood when our neighbour's 4Runner veered into his lane. The 4Runner (1998) hit my car while on the way to Canadian Tire. My dad tried to turn out of the way but it had snowed the night before and the rear of the Beretta just slid out and the 4Runner hit the driver side door and the rear quart…

Why don't you do a project car as opposed to buying something "new" for you vehicle with the greater "mechanical" feel...? I always think of you for some reason when I think of this thing. Not usually into lowered trucks but I like this one for some odd reason.... Of course, you could always roll with something more old skool...wid de rims... Or here is an old Hilux truck I saw in a historical neighborhood in Columbus the other day....

Yeah, this week totally blows, and I don't give a rat's ass what side of the political or culinary fence you sit on. First, Ron Paul announces that he will retire from politics, another major war likely looms on the horizon, and now Hostess announces that it is going out of buisness. Yep. That's right. Our collective fat American asses will no longer be able to scarf down the golden sweet goodness of the processed junk food we know and love as the Twinkie. Or slap together a peanut butter sandwich using the whitest of white bread, Wonder Bread. No longer can we swing by a Circle K or 7-11 and grab a handful of Ho Hos or Hostess Cupcakes, nor can we hazily gorge ourselves…

DNA testing use to be quite expensive, now it's little more than 100 bucks. I decided to do this based on Mitochondrial DNA test results, which are passed down from Mother to Child unchanged from generation to generation with very little genetic drift. The results of this test were surprising to say the least, my German grandfather always used to call my German grandmother his Sweet Swede, there was a rumor that my mother's great great-grandmother came from Sweden or someplace north of Germany in the Nordic countries. It seems according to the DNA results, she actually came from Iceland, Swedish and Icelandic are very close languages linguistically. 90% of all my exac…

Today on my lunch break I headed out to Wawa (a local convenience store chain) to get a bit of food. I have to pass the Toyota dealer, among others, on the route. They had three Tundras sitting out on the grass along the road. On the way back, I pulled onto the lot, jumped out, and walked around one. In two seconds, a cheery young saleslady appeared and held out her hand. I shook it and we introduced ourselves. "So, is this the first time you've seen the new Tundras?" "Yes." "Cool!" "Not really." "What?" "That thing is ugly!" (look of shock, but she regained her composure quickly) "That's the ugliest truck on the market." "Well, that's one opinion." And w…

As I see the new Lexus (help me out on the model number), the Maxima/Altima and now the 2010 LaCrosse, I think the short stubby rear deck lid is, for the most part, hideous. They are sedans, not fastbacks. Not only that, it makes most of the trunk hidden, whereas with a "normally" proportioned rear trunk lid, you can actually look down at things from eye level and move them in, out or around. Maybe, in a rare instance, they might be ok, but mostly they are not ok in my book. Your thoughts/vote?

Story Link Man sues BofA for "1,784 billion, trillion dollars" By Joe Rauch Joe Rauch – Fri Sep 25, 1:21 pm ET NEW YORK (Reuters) – Dalton Chiscolm is unhappy about Bank of America's customer service -- really, really unhappy. Chiscolm in August sued the largest U.S. bank and its board, demanding that "1,784 billion, trillion dollars" be deposited into his account the next day. He also demanded an additional $200,164,000, court papers show. Attempts to reach Chiscolm were unsuccessful. A Bank of America spokesman declined to comment. "Incomprehensible," U.S. District Judge Denny Chin said in a brief order released Thursday in Manhattan federal court. "He…

This is something that Nick would post (no offense dude, I don't mean it in a bad way.. if I did, I wouldn't post this!) and I'm lost too. About 2 or so years ago I liked this girl, Katie, quite a bit. Her cousin's family (she's real close to her cousin's family) and mine were cool with each other and hung out. I was wondering if I should go ahead into looking at a 1986 Pontiac Fiero 2M4 that is for sale in Orangeville. I spotted it on Craigslist. The car is an 86 w/ 80,000 kms. It needs a front bumper, brake work, and a new battery. What do you guys think? Are these cars potential problems. I have heard of many breaking down frequently. Would this be worth it ot just be a money pit? I dont think I would want to drive this in the winter so that is something that would turn me away. What do you think?

Our last dog Rosie, a red lab, sadly passed away last september. We have been looking around for another puppy. My mom has been wanting a yellow lab for a long time. We recently found a good breeder who just had a litter of English labs. They are located up north from us, so my uncle who lives up in Morro Bay/SLO took a look at them for us today. We've seen a couple pics of the puppies, but my uncle took some more. My uncle was actually the one who found us our last dog as well, and he picked up Rosie's sister (who was a black lab who also passed away). My uncle picked up a yellow lab puppy last year which sadly died in a tragic accident, and since then he adopted an old…

Here's the deal: My employers/landlords have a 2000 Volvo V40 wagon. About a week ago, I found a broken hunk of a front spring under the car and told them to have their mechanic check it out since I consider it a safety issue. I dropped the car off and had a chat about it with the mechanic. I agreed with him that the proper way to deal with it was to replace the front springs and struts (original and at about 90k miles). No big deal, I thought - standard wear stuff. Wrong. I should have known something was up when I asked the mechanic for a ballpark on the pricing and he came back with a number twice what I expected: $1,500. The first issue is that everything is a s…

I just read that this Australian girl was killed a mere 50 feet offshore and that the culprit(s) was/were (a) bull shark(s). This species is actually more aggressive and less discriminant than the great white. It is also more likely to keep coming back at you if you spar with it. Remember the summer of the shark? That was 2001. Before the WTC disaster, the Florida Gulf Coast was hit with a rash of shark attacks. The panhandle was also hard hit this way. In fact, in 1999, I went swimming near Pensacola quite a ways from shore where my feet couldn't touch and it was approaching dusk. I will NEVER do that again. Makes me so angry. :rage: Had a look under the cars the other day. First and foremost, the Prizm. After only four years in NE, winter is taking its toll. The good news is that it looks like the rust is confined to those areas of the rockers and no where else important. Hopefully this year I'll be able to get that fixed (along with the rear quarter). My car only saw a few storms before going into storage. Under body looks pretty good despite living its 204,000 life up here. I would like to take care of what rust is forming though before it gets worse.

Just after Christmas Tammy started telling me that she was concerned about me driving the Vette with the roads getting icy. Since it was winter break, she wasn't using our truck (she works for a school district) so I was driving it to work and back. But, with school starting up again she didn't want me in the Vette on our roads. Too many, nutcases who can't drive is what she SAID she was concerned about. All of our cars were RWD and with 3 of them being show cars and one of them having an engine being rebuilt for drag racing, they were out. I leave for work at 11PM and come home at either 8 or 9 AM so I get 2 chances for icy roads. That left the Vette, our truck, and …

My son received his first credit card offer in the mail this week. Imagine that! His first credit card -- at only age 6! It's from Citicorp -- one of the biggies. Since I moved within the last 8 months & this had our current, correct address - their records must be somewhat accurate. You can't tell me that they do ANY amount of background checking before sending out credit card offers what-so-ever. As a lender, wouldn't you want to, oh I don't know, check out income, credit report, etc before sending out a credit card offer? How can they say (with a straight face) that they are even halfway-serious about credit card security when they ma…

Since I do not have vacation until October this year, I've missed out on several events ... Monte Carlo- and heart-related. I'm also not at our family reunion this weekend in Pennsylvania (Holsopple/Johnstown/Pittsburgh area), a trip that usually includes stops in Ohio (Akron area), Michigan (Detroit area), New Jersey (east of Philadelphia PA), Maryland (Baltimore), and Virginia (Alexandria) ... all to see auto-enthusiast friends, heart-related friends, college friends, and, of course, family. Ssssooo...I'm hoping I will be able to take this trip, my 2007 Road Trip.... Below is my TENTATIVE itinerary...including traveling through/stops in Indiana, Kentucky, North Caro…

We are all going to post our best photos in this thread from today's scavenger hunt. It took place from 9:00am - 2:00pm & we ended up partnering up. Marcia wanted nothing to do with it but me & S.P. used the Q45 and teamed up while XP & his G/F Amanda used her 2005 Impala & Dodgefan & his G/F Jessica (notice she joined the forum recently) used the Intrepid. Wait until the 3 teams have posted their best 40 photos and a list of other interesting finds, then choose who you think found the most interesting & bizzare photo ops. & items.

My GF's brother is the not so proud owner of a previous gen Civic. A year or so back they had a major recall over the headlights just cutting off in the middle of a commute. (I don't remember seeing that one in the mainstream press) He was a good lil sheep and took his car in for the needed repairs. Fast forward to 2 weeks ago when he and his girlfriend are driving home from work one night and his headlights just randomly cut off. He takes it into the dealership again and they say: 1) The recall was never performed on the car in the first place (Umm, what?) 2) Because the car is out of warranty they charge him $187 for the new switch. And 3) If he wants to get his m…

Time for a new 'WYR' installment. The unloved-by-many Praning Horse halo supercar is beginning to be looked upon more fondly these days. In a world of hybrid hyper cars, the sharp, less digital approach to mega speed inevitably has begun to win over more fans. That said, 650ish horsepowers ain't so much anymore, not in a world of muscle cars, luxury sedans, and even SUV's touting similar or larger numbers. There's a who's who of supercars with over 600hp these days, and one of the most powerful is the new Aventador SV. Looking as much like a F Zero racer and stealth fighter hybrid as much it does a car, it has all the drama and aggressiveness one associates with L…

The wind around here is crazy, trucks were getting blown all over the highway on my way in this morning. The power keeps going out every half hour and taking out the network. Fun. I blame the wind. For some reason it's 11AM and the whole lab smells like fried chicken, but nobody knows why, or where the chicken is. Not sure if I can blame the wind for that one. Shaping up to be a strange day. Anybody else experience crazy winds?

Hey, I had this friend going back to the mid-90s. She's actually a licensed architect, but she is ROUGH around the edges...more of a construction trailer lady than an architect in an office. I only befriended her because we had work things in common..and our paths would have never crossed had it not been for that. Even though she is ROUGH, she is married, but her marriage is very screwed up from what I can see. It's like a roommate marriage. Here's the basic problem: when she heads for lower ground, I tend to straighten her out (if she asks me advice or tells about her ridiculous predicaments). That is, I told her to take her stupid licensing exam, to fight for t…

I've been requested to contact the grandson of Harley Earl, by said person, in regards to some unspecified internet rambling I did on concept cars. Not sure what caught his eye... This brings me right back to the time the owner of Pontiac Historical Services called my house, demanding to know why I was "badmouthing" him on the internet. (He still hasn't fixed the 'problem' ! )

"My" new Smart Passion: $14,620. White/black with tan interior, premium sound system, foglamps, power steering, clock and tachometer. Can "comical" also be "smart"? I saw my second Smart locally on the street yesterday, yellow with black frame, driven by an uber-nerdy guy with glasses. What's going on here? Is it hip to be square?

How's this for a dirty trick? I have my mortgage set to autopay. For years I've always paid the full amount for the 30 year mortgage. Well, apparently, I have a new optional minimum payment and Washington Mutual automatically switched me to that instead of my full payment amount. It's only $25 a month difference, but had I left it alone, I'd have a balloon payment treat at the end of my mortgage.

Follow up to the highjacked pickup thread.. so how many people here are musicians? I've been playing guitar since 9th grade just after i turned 16 so i've been playing for about 7 years (a vew lessons here and there but never fully schooled). I started to pick up drums about two years ago since two of my coworkers play drums (among other insruments/vocals). Well here's the majority of my stuff: Drums: Pearl Forum Accoustic: Alvarez Dreadnought - My dad bougth in 1979 and I got it as a graduation gift (even though I was playing it daily). I have since had some work done on to it. lower bridge for better action, straighted neck, new tunes, bone piece on the bridge to…

So the average new car price currently sits at $33,781. Which is a decent amount. There's some pretty solid deals out there for that kinda money. I'm going to round that number up slightly to $35,000, and use it as the base line for this Dream Garage thread. Rules- 1) You have a total of $175,000. 2) You must have at least 2, but no more than 5 automobiles. 3) You can spend as much or as little on any one vehicle as you want. 4) These are your only vehicles. 5) Choices must be brand new and on sale now. 6) You CAN use actual sale prices, rather than MSRP, SO LONG AS THEY ARE REALISTIC. Ie- w/ Mfr's Rebates, slightly discounted online pri…

We've never had a toaster oven and I didn't feel like I was missing much. However teh place I work at has a B&D Toast-R-Oven (must be a few years old) that I use every day since I began work. Love being able to reheat pizza, toast a sandwich etc. VS a microwave. I like their oven because in addition to temp settings, a timer, and toast darkness dials, there's a button to press for toasting, and it shuts off as soon as you open the door. So now I want one. The question is what to get? Browsing online shows lots of mixed reviews. For these things. It seems a lot of B&D products get bad reviews (catch fire, die, toast unevenly. etc.). There's this oven Proctor…

Auto Gauges, Manual, Digital, Are They Even Needed? Ran into a debate that was in multiple forums and even on Jalopnik that had editors and forum members debating the need of Auto Gauges and the type. Manual, Digital, Monitor screen, touch, etc. As such, what are your thoughts on the type of dash info you feel 21st century auto's should have?

I've listed it twice on ebay now and gotten lots of watchers, one fool that keeps insisting that it had to have come from the factory with leather seats and chrome wheels and he demands that I put them "back in/on". I'm thinking maybe I won't re-list it again if it doesn't go this time. Maybe I'll just polish it up, put it up on jackstands, cover it , and try to forget I own it for a few years.

...my ride. After so many new vehicles in so few years, as of this morning I no longer own any vehicle. Soon enough by paper too, once Chase is paid off. Since moving to Philly and working with Acura, I've been demo driving for several months and parked the Mazda. Already miss it, but a payment when it's never used and a free new car is part of my pay didn't make sense...so away the CX-9 went to a new home in the suburbs, to a couple who specifically (and luckily for me, as it was tough) wanted FWD and nothing to do with AWD, trading a 1999 Sienna. Weird. First time since 2006 I've been car-owning-less My demo 2011 Acura TSX Tech will continue to do for a while, follo…

1957 was a great year for cars...Ford outsold Chevrolet, Chevrolet introduced its legendary Bel Air, a few companies introduced fuel-injection to American cars, and Chrysler reached a peak in styling with the Forward Look. Especially nice were the '57 Imperial and De Soto Adventurer convertibles. Check out these two '75s going up for sale soon...the Imperial was even owned by Howard Hughes at one point. What do you think of them? http://automotivetraveler.com/jump/2793

Do Something about it? (link) I've been having recent fantacies of driving my new Camaro, but dread the idea of the possibility that I might have to install a front license plate on it. So... I came up with an idea of replacing the front plate with a decal that could go on the windshield, and thought I'd research CA law for $h!s-n-giggles to see exactly why a front plate is required and if such a decal idea would work. Well... I didn't find that information, because I ran into the above link (petition) instead. Who knows if the petition is worth it, or if it's even legit, but I wouldn't mind getting rid of the stupid law!
