For fun, let's see what everyone uses for hand tools. This applies to screwdrivers, wrenches, sockets, and the like. This does not include power tools. I'll do a thread for that later. You can choose multiples.

Since Camino LS6 asked, I thought I'd share with everyone some pics (14 total, plus 2 extra) of my family's muscle cars. The first post is for the blue 1969 Barracuda, the 2nd post will be the orange 1979 `Cuda, and the last two are msic images. Enjoy! Very little rust on this car at all. It does run, and was last driven in the fall, although Today I noticed there's large wet spot under the car. It's raining so I'm not sure if it's a leak or not. This Barracuda has a 340 and a manual tranny, it also has factory A/C. There's been a lot of work done to this car over the past few years. The nterior had a lot of work done to it, including the seats being reuph…

Just a quick fun discussion. If you could buy any new car for your Valentine, money no object, what would it be? Remember, you're not buying for yourself, so pick out something your sweetheart would want and like.

So I was out walking this morning, and part of my route is along a road that's outside of my development. I was amazed at the amount of trash people just throw out their car windows... like it's the middle ages or something. A big potato chip bag with half the chips strewn everywhere, coffee and soda cups and bottles, an orange condom, (used, ew) etc. etc... what are people thinking? How can people be so damn TRASHY? I sincerely hope everyone here takes their trash home and sticks it in the wastebasket.

I just looked on the Toronto Craigslist and Toronto Kijiji and I found 2 interesting cars. One, a 1987 Pontiac Firebird Formula and a 1989 Buick Lesabre T-Type. Both equal in price and both need body work and some other work. Firebird needs interior work and the Lesabre needs brake work. The seats would eventually need to be reupholstered since the leather shows its age but isn't ripped. WHat do you think? I really love the Lesabre T-Type but would it be worth restoring in the long run? Here are the links to the listings. 1989 Lesabre T-Type 1987 Firebird Formula

Dictionaries have been removed from classrooms in southern California schools after a parent complained about a child reading the definition for "oral sex". Merriam Webster's 10th edition, which has been used for the past few years in fourth and fifth grade classrooms (for children aged nine to 10) in Menifee Union school district, has been pulled from shelves over fears that the "sexually graphic" entry is "just not age appropriate", according to the area's local paper. The dictionary's online definition of the term is "oral stimulation of the genitals". "It's hard to sit and read the dictionary, but we'll be looking to find other things of a graphic nature," district …

Okay, so this is going to be a somewhat smaller pool to draw from, but I thought this one would really make people explore and maybe uncover some previously unknown gems. I hope everyone enjoys it. Rules- 1) Production vehicles only. 2) Any era and market is allowed. 3) These are your only cars. 4) Vehicles MUST be a cylinder count previously not featured, or some other form of ICE. Ie- 3 cyl, 5 cyl, 16, cyl, rotary, etc. 5) Maximum of 5 choices, but you can expand beyond your top 5 to 10 if you wish. 6) No hybrids. Fully gas engines.

My Great Grandfather passed away quietly in his sleep last night. He was my friend and mentor. He had a calm, steady, intellectualism. He spoke 7 languages fluently and has been on every continent except for Antarctica. He was highschool educated and rose to become President of the Okonite Company, one of the oldest wire cable companies in the country, where he demonstrated pioneering leadership and understanding that taking care of the company's workforce was in the company's best interest. Just prior to his retirement in 1976, he arranged the following: He was a quiet man who's life centered around taking care of others. He never commanded but always sugge…

Alright, we're moving on. For us guys who really like the smaller stuff and cars with that 'point and squirt' vibe, this one may cause some headaches. There is an absolute plethora of fantastic cars in this range that will surely make it difficult to narrow down a list. In terms of sheer driver's cars, this may very well be the most stacked bracket we will be working with. Have fun! Rules- 1) Max of 5 choices. 2) Must be production units. 3) These are your only vehicles. 4) Any era and market is allowed. 5) Cars MUST have AT LEAST 200 HP, but NO MORE THAN 299 HP. As rated by the MFR.

Okay, i know its a odd subject that could get really opinionated, but lets be civil. The other day back at work we got into discussing the after life, me being skeptical about everything, i stood back and listened. I'm religious in the fact that i hope theres a heaven but i really don't know. I guess most people believe in a heaven and hell. however some believe in that once you die you wander here just not in a body and others believe in reincarnation. After my old house and the crazy $h! that went on there i kinda think i believe in ghosts and things but i guess we cant truly grasp on that concept or ever will be able to understand it, but what if ev…

What do you suppose you would find, if you were to do some landscaping in your yard? Well, as I've told you guys before, I live in the village of Ramsaytown, not actually Brookville... I just have a Brookville address. Ramsaytown, as I've said, was started as a coal mining town about 200 years ago. Between then and the early 1900s, it had reached its peak and was a full blown town, like Brookville. It had everything that a small town in that era consisted of. Well, shortly after, coal mining which was the heart of this town, basically tore it apart into what it is today. Houses were destroyed or moved and the landscape was torn up. All in the name of greed, from coal mi…

DF brought up this point and I figured I would look back and see how many accidents there really has been. I'm going back until 2000, or so. There weren't many before then, not since my parents, aunts, and uncles were younger. It's mostly my generation that's had issues. -My cousin Josh's first wreck, spinning into a tree with his Firebird back in 2000, a few months after getting his license. -My cousin Josh's second wreck involved rear ending someone with his jacked up and modded Ford Ranger. -My Mom's first wreck, when she slid into an embankment and a bridge with her Grand Am in 2002. -My cousin Andy wrecked my Grandma's Sunfire in 2003 or 2004, the fir…

I'm seriously considering a daily driver and one of the cars on my shortlist is the 2015 VW GTI, 4-door, with manual transmission and performance package. I'm yet to test drive it. What I like, on paper, is that the car is a perfect blend of utility (hatch), performance, fun-to-drive, fuel economy, and features. What I hesitate about is VW's reliability and dealer experience. Is this car now made in Mexico, unlike previous iterations that were made in Germany? What I dislike are the options packages. I do not have problems with with getting the S, but I hate the plaid seats. I dislike the panoramic sunroof for SE and Autobahn trims. Tell me more about it. Your thought…

I was wondering if I should go ahead into looking at a 1986 Pontiac Fiero 2M4 that is for sale in Orangeville. I spotted it on Craigslist. The car is an 86 w/ 80,000 kms. It needs a front bumper, brake work, and a new battery. What do you guys think? Are these cars potential problems. I have heard of many breaking down frequently. Would this be worth it ot just be a money pit? I dont think I would want to drive this in the winter so that is something that would turn me away. What do you think?

How much do you think we could get out of the Sunfire? To refresh your memories, it's a dark blue 2002 GT with the Twincam and a 5spd. It includes a sunroof, power locks, and the 400 watt Monsoon sound system. It has just over 100k miles at the moment, up from 84k when we bought it. As you may have heard me bitch about, it's reliability is a fluke, as with most J-bodies I've personally experienced. Between the ignition system, catalytic converter, backfiring, slight smoking, chugging oil, random noises, and it literally falling apart in places, it's a complete POS. Other than a few random blemishes, it looks excellent however, and most of the problems it has, can't be …

I think I've finally succeded in making a definitive list of my next car (yeah, right). It's down to these four: 1. 2001+ Volvo S60 (2.4T or T5 likely) 2. 2004+ Pontiac Grand Prix (GT or GTP) 3. 2000-2003 Nissan Maxima 4. 2002-2006 Nissan Altima (3.5SE or SE-R) The common thing for me in all of these cars is liking the looks, sounds, and powertrains (of the above-mentioned versions) of all of these. These can all be had for around the same price (maybe not the SE-R or T5). So if you were in my shoes, which would you choose. Please be as objective as you can.

Some of us organized a get-together over at LS1GTO.com, and we had a pretty good number of GTOs out together today, it was a lot of fun cruising around. We went in to the dealership and told them that we had 7 GTOs out front all together, and asked if we could take some pictures. Anyways, here are some pics...

About one month ago, this was my driveway: Since then, the Cobalt was deemed a total loss, my brother's friend no longer practically lives with us (the Grand Prix in the pic), I bought that Olds, and now today, I sold the Millenia for paltry $200. Someone got a pretty good deal if they do all the work it needs. A few random other car related things... My brother hit a deer with his Alero. My Mom is officially looking for a Sunfire replacement. She'd like to find something with low mileage that's newer and fuel efficient. We did find an 02 Cavalier with 50k for $3k, but the seller never contacted us back, so I figure it's sold. Also found a 99 Cutlass with 47k for …

What is so cool about riding around in your base model with no wheel covers? I am still seeing a lot of cars riding on black steelies. What is the purpose of it? Why is it cool? They're keeping those black steelies clean as a whistle, too. I was thinking maybe it is a drag racing thing, where the racing tires are mounted on steelies, so maybe it's supposed to make that Cavalier/Focus/Jetta/Cobalt/ION/xB etc look like a RACE CAR. Can someone enlighten me? And when are the OEMs going to jump on this? Make those plastic wheel covers an option, since so many come off immediately anyway.

After 10 years w/ two vintage Mercedes, my sister decided this week that she'd had enough of the money pits and decided to she wanted something newer and more reliable for the 50 mile per day commute (been working locally for a while instead of out of town). Working cold air conditioning was a top priority w/ today being the first 100 degree day of the season. So this is now in the driveway..I ran the car fax, it came up clean. It's a very clean, one owner '00 DTS, 96k miles. I drove it for about an hour tonight around town and on the freeway, it drives great..very smooth and quiet. I guess I will have to take back all the mean things I've said about FWD Caddies. C…

Yep, getting close to that time... At the moment I am working on rebuilding/ updating my two chevys (Cavalier and Cobalt), as the goal here is to run them until it's time to send them to the yard..Both still run quite well, so until the rust gets real bad (figure the cavalier has maybe 1-2 years left)-drive them we shall..... Then, we went to a small expo thing where GM had a stand and I filled out a pre-application type thing for their co-op program. SEOUL, South Korea — Punching their fists into the air and shouting "Let's crush them!" some 100,000 North Koreans packed Pyongyang's main square Thursday for an anti-U.S. rally as the communist regime promised a "fire shower of nuclear retaliation" for any American-led attack. Several demonstrators held up a placard depicting a pair of hands smashing a missile with "U.S." written on it, according to footage taken by APTN in Pyongyang on the anniversary of the day North Korean troops charged southward, sparking the three-year Korean War in 1950. North Korean troops will respond to any sanctions or U.S. provocations with "an annihilating blow," one senior official vowe…

Say you're out somewhere. There's this attractive person that you notice, and they seem to notice you. And you end up looking over at each other waaay too many times. The grocery store is a bad place for this to happen, because you get to the end of the aisle, turn to go down the next... and there they are. What makes it even more complicated is, they, or you, are with someone. Has this ever happened to anyone else?

In an attempt to actually start saving my money, I have been looking at a few online saving banks since they have much higher interest rates than what the traditional "brick-and-mortar" banks offer even on CDs. I've been looking at ING, Emigrant Direct and HSBC (which is currently offering a 6% APY on new accounts). Needless to say, HSBC is looking the best to me right now. Is anyone else using these? I have a friend who had surgery on his shoulder recently. He won't be able to work for 8 weeks while he recuperates. This week, he's supposed to do as little as possible, so I got an idear to get him some reading material to help him pass the time. He's pretty heavy into sport compact cars. Real hot ones, not 25hp Type-R sticker hot, but turbo AWD hot. We have a little back-and-forth at times between the Corvette and the sport compacts. Anyway, I stopped at the VW dealership seeking a brochure on the R32, telling the attendant my story of a friend with nothing to do but recuperate. In the meantime, I've posted some stories about what I've learned on the track. Check out part 2 at: http://automotivetraveler.com/jump/4289 And tell us your racing stories...legal ones, please.

Firehawk GTO Jag Maserati All Firehawk related items (Quite a bit including pristine original 91/92 Firehawk wheels and tires that still have the original stickers on them) Lots of personal reasons for this. We're organizing a casual gathering of cars and car people...and looking for interesting cars and even more interesting people. This is a morning cruise-in type event Saturday May 5 at Michael's Resturaunt in Douglassville, PA (right on Rt 422 between Pottstown and Reading). Michael's is NOT sponsoring the event but has allowed us to use their parking lot (so buy a cup of coffee or have breakfast with us). There's no charge for the event as it's very casual. It's primiarily organized by the Delaware Valley Region of the Classic Car Club of America (with help from the region's Cadillac-LaSalle Club), but we're open to anyone and everyone. Bring something interesting...brin…

I resigned from one a couple of months ago. I worked there for almost 3 years. The first 2 years were fine, but one day in early 2006, 6 people (the most promising employees) out of 40 quit and started their own firm. (They were guys who hung out together outside of work and did the beer/shooting range thing, so those of us who didn't "fit in" weren't invited along...no hard feelings). About 10 more left during 2006 because the atmosphere had become depressing. I thought about quitting immediately as their work would fall on other people's shoulders and stress everybody out, but I had to consider the following: - a hair under 2 years would not look good on a resum…

From an email I got... "A recent study found that the average American walks about 900 miles a year. Another study found that Americans drink, on average, 22 gallons of alcohol a year. That means that, on average, Americans get about 41 miles to the gallon!"

So, the other night I drove my 98 Buick LeSabre (about 92,000 miles on the clock) about 23 miles home and the car was running perfectly. I pulled it into the drive way and parked it. Next morning it didn't start, turned over but no fire. So I call AAA and have them tow it to a close dealership within my free towing circle. I haven't exactly liked this dealership in the past since they broken the piece in the steering wheel that holds the horn wire in place and after going back in forth I gave up and ghetto fixed it with a q-tip. They are a Buick dealership, not that it matters but I just suspect they see similar cars so it's not a new car to them. Any way the tow guy sh…

when will the "other guys" start using this standard for engine ratings, and do you think that it would have any effect on what buyers would look for....an SAE rated car vs. and non SAE rated car? one more condition on that, since GM is the only one doing it, (right now, right?) how will it effect things after a few more brands use this standard. one way this could be usefull is if you the powercurves on the performance models and over lay them with the competitions power curves. this make sense? sorry if it doesn't.

Well we can argue over FWD/RWD, V8/V6. We can discuss wheel base or overall lenght. We can cry for more power, larger wheels and more elaborate interiors but what is the reality of the automobiles future? Yes, you guessed it, this is a oil price and availability drivin question. So what do we really need now that its going to cost 3 bucks for every 20-26 miles and talks that within a few years it will be 5 bucks. Is it time to bring back the big block V8 ? Body on frame, 225 inch long cars ? Most of us here are car freaks, so off course we want more, more, more but what is the reality ? For the first time in over a decade Im starting to wish I had the old VW diesel …

Okay, I need the help of someone more computer/windows XP savy then I am. Somehow my computer wigged out the other day and I've had to do "system restore"... the problem is ever since then I have not been able to save JPG files off the net. It will only let me save them in BMP format. Can someone let me know how to fix this? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I will try to fix that later if you wish.

13 Little-Known Punctuation Marks We Should Be Using Adrienne Crezo Because sometimes periods, commas, colons, semi-colons, dashes, hyphens, apostrophes, question marks, exclamation points, quotation marks, brackets, parentheses, braces, and ellipses won't do. 1. Interrobang You probably already know the interrobang, thanks to its excellent moniker and increasing popularity. Though the combination exclamation point and question mark can be replaced by using one of each (You did what!? or You don't read mental_floss?!), it's fun to see the single glyph getting a little more love lately. 2. Percontation Point or Rhetorical Question Mark The backward quest…

So here is the counterpart to our 4.0-Up FI Dream Garage thread. As the title explains, we will use naturally aspirated engines of AT LEAST 5.0 liters of displacement this round. And yes, I know I skipped the 4.something class. That was intentional. Rules- 1)These are your only cars. 2)Production only. 3)Maximum of 5 choices. 4)Any era and market is allowed. 5)Must have N/A engines with 5.0 displacement or greater. Have fun.

Yokohama working on tires designed to move the air Tire design is typically focused on how the rubber interacts with the road, but what about the atmosphere? Yokohama has been developing a new concept tire that can improve both a car’s efficiency and handling by redirecting the air around it. The design involves small fin-like protuberances built into the outside of the tire near its shoulder, where the sidewall meets the tread. (Yokohama) Mounted at alternating angles, when they reach the top of the tire’s rotation they help to reduce aerodynamic drag, which improves high speed fuel economy and, potentially, the top speed of the vehicle. At the bottom,…

We've already done the "create/bring back" thread and the "drop" thread, now here's one we were screaming to see....because we know it's what GM needs to do. I'd do the following: -Corvette to Pontiac (yes, it will be controversial, but why is the top dog sports car in GM's lineup a Chevy, the basic division?) -Sky to Pontiac (as the Solstice's mid-run freshening) -Torrent to GMC (what would a Torrent Denali be like?) -VUE to Pontiac (if Pontiac's going to have a Theta at all, they should have the coolest one) -HHR to Pontiac (should have been the Vibe's replacement) -Aveo to Saturn (Saturn just seems be a better place …

Hello my friends. I am besides myself at this time, finding it hard to sleep. I know tomorrow will not be any better, and I would like to share with you the reason why I feel this way tonight. One of our two family dogs (both Lhasa Apso's, Benji [11 years old] and Snickers [8 years old]) over the weekend suddenly became ill - the younger dog, Snickers. He has always been in good health, but this weekend he was showing signs of distress. An appointment with the vet tonight did not bring good news. The vet listened to his lungs and verified that he was having major breathing issues. An x-ray showed his lungs were enlarged due to advanced cancer and the only humane opt…

Who do you most like to watch lose in a sports sense? Me personally I hate Penn State and the Lions. Can't stand Jo Pa and his boys... Would gladly watch OSU go 1-11 to watch them beat Penn State. Also, I've lived in Ohio for 21 years but...I have no love at all for the Browns or Bengals... Steelers all the way for me! And I also can't stand the Cowboys, pretty much. And in Hockey I have no love for the Edmunton Oilers...at all. So who do you love to watch lose? Chris

I bought a PS3. I've had the urge to lately, but wanted to wait until GT5 was finally released. Yesterday, I decided to act upon this urge and purchased one along with the game 'Fallout 3'. I'm hitting up Ebay for more games as I type. I probably should have splurged for the 250 GB model, but I figured I would never really use the extra disc space anyways and went with the cheaper 120 GB model. With my slow internet connection, I can't see myself downloading a bunch of extras. We have a well rounded household line-up now. PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, PS2, and even an old Sega Genesis. If I still had my Sega Dreamcast, it'd be even better. I'm looking forward to some fun gaming, …

A sweet little old lady came in today for an estimate on her Glacier Blue Buick Century (amazingly, with chrome, late-model Intrigue wheels on it with Buick center caps, hmmm... was that an obscure Century special edition built after Intrigue production ended?) Anyway, she was sitting in the office, shooting the breeze with my manager, telling him the story of how her right front corner got banged up. She was in a local mall parking lot, "when a lady driving a Lincoln Town House hit me!" We all managed to keep it together while she was with us, but when she left, we were rolling. All I could think of was asking her "3 bedroom, 2 and a half baths?" But I held my tongu…

Boeing to deliver first 787 after years of delays Link: http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Boeing-to-deliver-first-787-apf-4218156513.html Boeing delivers its first 787 jet on Sunday. It's been a long time coming. The new jet, which was supposed to be flying passengers three years ago, has been delayed by production and design problems. But now it's here, and airlines expect it to offer travelers much more comfort, open up new routes and provide significant fuel savings. The first one goes to Japan's All Nippon Airways, which has been printing the 787 logo and "We Fly 1st" on its business cards for years. Airlines love the jet, which Boeing calls the Dreamliner. Th…

If you've been eastbound on the Cross Bronx Expressway, you may have seen this written on a billboard: Dear Steven, I hope I have your attention. I know all about her, you dirty, sneaky, immoral, unfaithful, poorly-endowed slimeball. Everything's caught on tape. Your (soon to be ex-) wife, Emily. PS: I paid for this billboard with OUR joint bank account. As soon as I noticed that no brands, products, or services were mentioned on the billboard anywhere, I was awe-struck. But really, I have nothing else to add. This just speaks for itself. Also, scroll to the last part of this article... I had a feeling it'd make news. I'm also corrected on the exact wor…

So here I am with my girlfriend in Wichita, KS for the summer. In May I flew down here, on August 20th, we're gonna driver her car back to Massachusetts. Her car is a 1994 Geo Prism, 1.6, with a 5-speed manual and 164K miles on it. As we know, the Prism is a basically a Toyota Corolla, with a slightly different front and rear end, and different center stack. The body is in great shape, save for a dent in teh passenger fender and a missaligned bumper, but has no rust at all. Sounds like a good car right? WRONG First the timing belt needs to be replaced, second it slips out of 3rd, and won't even go into 4th. Sometimes it won't go into Reverse. We went to Cottman Transmis…
