So... I got a call on my cell phone on my way home from work today. It made me pull over - the first time I've ever had to. First, a little background. Some of you may remember, I went to China in late April / early May. While there, I picked up a girl in Beijing named Fei Fei (yes, you say it like the dogs name, let the jokes commence). She was really into me as I left for Nanjing. She came with my friends and I to the train station and everything. I've never seen a girl so torn up over a one night stand before. Different cultures, different reactions, I guess. So, she gave me her phone number, since I'd be on my way through Beijing on my last night there before flying…

This is turning into a little weekly series. Where's it at this week? Dubois, 20 miles away. Imagine this... Idiot lights flashing, clouds of steam trying to escape from the gaps of the hood and the wheel wells... It's quite a sight. It overheated. I was on my way to Dubois, driving along I80 peacefully when suddenly the temp light comes on. "What?!" I look into the rear view mirror to see a nice trail of steam. "You've got to be f@#king kidding me." Luckilly, I was coming right up to my exit when it happened. Pulled onto the off ramp and pulled over. Steam is rising from around the hood, especially the back. I pop the hood and upon it. Oh, the steam. Coolant had sp…

It's certainly not my driveway... Oh no, it's far from here. In fact, it's in the middle of the woods... It just didn't make it home in one piece. ...f@#king flat tires. This is the second one on a set of perfectly good tires, atleast, good enough to have passed inspection. This time, I didn't have a spare tire, since, it's in use from the flat I had a month ago. As per my wish list, new tires are in order. And, well, I have to work tomorrow morning. This is going to be interesting. Shopping... on black friday... for tires. Then... getting the Beast... and putting the new tires on... all before work. Granted, I don't think my Mom works, so I could just get a ride to …

Any of the mods have the scoop or are we still "flying blind" on this topic? Maybe he bought that Jaguar after all and ended up in the poor-house as a result of the repair bills, or perhaos mental hospital for same basic root causes? I've got a few Jaguar hood ornaments amongst the hundreds of emblems I've collected over the years. That's all the Jaguar I need. I'd love to see my old '76 LeSabre featured in the "Project Car Chronicles". Saddly I do not even know if Fly still owns the car.

Been a couple weeks since I was around, thought I'd share my whereabouts. My family bought a "new" house finally, and so the last few weeks have been working on getting it ready to move in to. Check and fix water leaks, clean, paint, etc. It's a multifamily home, split into three (it used to be two) The main area of the first floor is my mom's and the upstairs is where my aunt's family is moving into. The rear section of the first floor was split up some time ago and used as an office, then converted into an apartment. This is where my girlfriend and I are living. So we get our own little place out of this, which is pretty cool. A little privacy yet still being able to …

So here's another "checking in" post after 3 and a half years away. I find it difficult to stay interested enough to keep up with social media these days so excuse the absence. I'll try to keep this one short and sweet. I can't quite remember, but I believe my last update came when I was still in Michigan. Anyways, as I alluded to in that post, I ended up relocating to Charleston, SC after exhausting my options around Detroit. For work, I've now completely switched industries, transitioning into home energy. It pays the bills, so I can't complain about that. Once again, though, I might be looking for yet another destination to call home in the next year or so. The So…

Oops... I sort of forgot about this place until Drew sparked my memory. So yeah, I suppose an update is in order for those who don't follow me on Facebook. After Detroit, the $h! sort of hit the fan for my life. Finances became tight as I sought to pay down my debts (a.k.a. reduce the amount owned on my Avalon due to its not-so-sterling depreciation) and suddenly my job turned into a living hell. I managed to put up with it until the middle of summer when I finally had enough and quit. Needless to say, the experience has soured my views on ever working in a pharmacy again. Once I was out of that place, I had a gracious offer from a well-known friend to …

Now Wall Street may shun $700bn bail-out Fears are mounting that many Wall Street banks and financial firms will refuse to participate in the US government's $700bn bail-out package, leaving global markets and world economies in a perilous state for months to come. 'There is a growing feeling that banks ... might instead decide to tough it out,' said Thomas Caldwell, chairman and CEO of Caldwell Financial, a $1bn-plus fund manager. For the past two weeks all eyes in the market have been focused on US Congress and its attempts to pass Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson's bail-out package - a bill to allow the US government to buy up to $700bn of toxic mortgage-related …

Words cannot possibly describe how f@#kING PISSED I am!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So about a half an hour ago my girlfriend and I were laying in bed talking getting ready to go to sleep. As we're talking we hear this extremely crashing noise and what sounded to me like a clutch grinding. I quickly look out of the window to see some guy jumping out of a car and start running down the street. We get dressed really quickly and run outside to see the red early 90's Integra in the road with the lights on and the wipers on crashed into the neighbors car. I go back inside and call the cops. At first we thought they had just hit their car but boy were we wrong. Not only di…

Well I can't tell you the last time I've been to an American Mall, but my daughter wanted to go so we all went. I definitely have come to the conclusion that Americans are the fattest people on the face of the earth. People should not wear jeans when they are as wide as they are tall ... And wearing sweatpants just screams "I've Given UP"! What I experienced tonight was the most bizarre sights and smells I've have seen in a long long time ... My eyes, my eyes ...

So I was arguing with some idiot who has no comprehension of marketing products to different markets (background: I'm a psych/marketing major) and whilst explaining to him that the Camaro can appeal to more diverse young people, I typed in the fact I am a liberal gay 21 year old who lives 5,000 miles from Detroit. Did you know that the word gay is automatically blurred on GM Inside News Forums for being inappropriate!? Along with every other bad four letter word I can think of, that of all things is placed on the list of words that can't be seen... Did I miss something or am I justified in being a little peeved???

As many of you may know, I've been on antidepressants since March, Lexapro to be exact. They did their job, getting my out of my depression, for good news. Otherwise, the side effects were unbelievable. Weight gain from appetite increase... Problems with excessive yawning... Inability to orgasm during any form of sex... and Sleepiness and Insomnia both. Because of these, I've had a desire to stop taking them. Considering that I was in a "rut of life sucking" when I was depressed and was put on these, I figured it's about time to get off them. Life for me has changed so much since March and most of the reasons why I was depressed in the first place have disappeared. I re…

... a Volvo! The Envoy is "technically" the wife's leased vehicle, but it really was my choice to get it over a too-high monthly lease payment on a GM minivan back in 2005. She liked it for the first year, but she's not really a "truck" person so the last year & a half she's driven the car more. With the lease up in August, we've decided to go back to "his & her" cars. We've been sharing the cars the last few years due to her mileage/commute to work (32 miles one way) and the need to keep leases in the 15k/year range. But I'm tired of fighting over seat & mirror changes (the Envoy does have memory settings that have helped), and she's tired of me picking …

Toshiba asks $250 for theirs while i found a different manufacturer for $130. well the first was replaced for free under a recall notice, the next one i bought out of pocket for the $130. the toshiba replacement lasted nearly a year and a half, the $130 for maybe 8 months... you get what you pay for i guess. i kept the bulb off the bright set…

Anyways, the dealership is about an hour away and we get there at about 9:45. Weak dollar and decline in oil inventories spark buying of oil futures NEW YORK - Crude oil prices surged further into record terrain Thursday, breaching $83 a barrel as the weak dollar and last week's decline in U.S. oil inventories spurred buying of futures. Gasoline futures jumped as well. Oil prices have risen to records in seven straight sessions on the New York Mercantile Exchange on a mix of concerns about falling supplies and tight demand. But many analysts also blame an influx of speculative "nontraditional" capital into energy commodities. And that inflow increases when the dollar falls, analysts say. Addison Armstrong, an analyst with TFS Energy Futures LLC…

Is this dude a piece of $hit or what? He couldn't keep his nose clean. He was just found guilty of theft and kidnapping in Las Vegas. In a way, I think he had a "survivor's guilt" issue. He obviously knew he did it because he became so self-destructive afterward. I heard he was not treated well in public and probably had to constantly look over his shoulder. If he was truly innocent, he could have had a clear conscience, could have lived a life of luxury and could have been surrounded by blonde poon. I guess he'll have to take what's available in adjacent jail cells, or Rosey Palms, now. Justice is served. May the sentencing be just as harsh.

As you can see I've started you next to the missing children's office (heh.) So you bolt through the Macomb Hall doors and blaze past the Ford trucks, the black Mustang GT on the stand and the black Ford GT on the stand. You get momentarily sidetracked by Jeeps huge rocks and waterfall display. "Ohh purdy" you say. You then snap out of it and cut across the corner of the Chevy display next to the orange HHR and the Hybrid Tahoe that IS there. You can see *it* now and you start crying. You reach the turn table and walk around it once very slowly. You can then see that you are overcome and must run to the bathroom before you soil yourself. On the way back you notice the Hu…

What did you do for your mamma on her special day? My mom wanted to go to Easton, MD (where I used to live) for lunch, including some locally famous cream of crab soup. Then we took the short trek to St. Michaels, MD, to another locally famous spot for some ice cream. She said she had a great day, which was good. I thought of something funny on the way home after dropping her off though... both places are gay-owned.

All right guys, help me out (if you would ever be so kind). Im trying to decide on a car for college (or type of car). i need something with good gas milage, in particular and something recent (nothing past the '01 mark if you dont mind, but if is, i'll consider it). I also dont need anything big; something nice and compact that wont take up a large amount of space. oh and make sure that it dont cost an arm and a leg to buy (god knows im not rich). If you have any recomendations/sugestions for such a picky post please reply. thank you, I appreciate it.

Sort of a folk/punk/techno fusion kind of thing with some operatic undertones and just a whispering aftertaste of house. We'll call ourselves "The Gay Sulus." What's the name of your band? http://www.cheersandgears.com/public/style_emoticons//AH-HA_wink.gif

... that once the toys are gone I want an interesting wagon right away. Has to be clean and V8 powered and RWD. A/C is also a must and it has to have some sort of "cool factor" going for it. I have been all over the web in the last few hours and there isn't much out there right now. So, keep your eyes open - I'm looking for some help and all leads are appreciated.

I just showed the wagon to a local guy who seems very interested. That would be the last of my vehicles that is currently roadworthy. I need to find something fast.

I never thought it would be this hard to find a used part. I've been on the hunt for a whole driver's side visor (whole assembly) for my wife's 2003 Cavalier (4dr). You'd think it would be an easy task....not so much. Running into issues when hitting the yards: #1- Many of the Cavs I've hit already have no visors...I 'm guessing this is a common issue. Thanks, GM #2- If one has one, it's pretty much destroyed. Can get one from the dealership for the tidy sum of 161 bucks...worth almost as much as the car at this point. I've called upon my J body people, with no success so far. Catch is it has to be from a 03-05 Cav...I'm quite anal about that. I'm hoping you guys…

I always seem to be saying/reading things backward for the hell of it.. just to be random and say "Hey! Random backwards is modnar!" Well.. I noticed something today. Camaro = or a mac (mac daddy?) .... Mustang = gnats um So I need mental help.. So?! Am I the only weirdo out there that often reads/says words backward just because you can?

Okay, I know I'm going to get hammered, but I'm going to ask anyways.... First point- Wife has decided to keep her Cav. Does not want a new car. Surprised me, but wants to start saving more money for other stuff. Which is fine, so I'll just update the Cavalier (new ATF/Dex Shocks/struts) since it's pretty good shape for a nearly 7 year old car... Which brings to to my next point- I'd like to get a cheap SUV for the family, like for hauling stuff around, taking trips up north, so things like that. I only need two things-dependible and cheap ( and rust free). There's a good chance this thing will get upgraded anyways. Here's the trouble: Chevy Blazer. Why, you say? …

Okay.... so as of today, Thursday, May 10th 2007 there is less than five weeks left before I hit the road with several friends to drive about 3700 miles in less than a week. I promissed DodgeFan I'd hammer out the timeline on here since he's going along. So here goes. I'm hoping to get about 13mpg on this trip since it will be 95% highway miles and I'm either taking the 1959 Buick which has a 6.0 liter V8, or perhaps (blasphemy!) I might take the 1977 Cadillac instead. The Cadillac has a very economical rear end in it... 2.08:1, but it breathes through a big 4bbl and displaces 425 cubic inches/7.0 liters. So for the sake of argument, since Big Red got abou…

Since my teens, I've been carting around all of the car magazines I've collected over the years. I never refer to them, I only look at them when I move them to a new place, and they aren't "mint" anyway. I think it's time to recycle them.

Hey everyone, I have been thinking about this a little lately, and I wanted to see what you all thought about it. Am I way off track?! It seems to me as though Toyota is paralleling GM of the 70's and 80's. And by that I mean, cutting corners - doing things cheaper, riding along on a reputation instead of producing the product to maintain the reputation? It seems like Toyota (and I've thought this since before this whole recall situation) is cutting corners a lot. I don't spend too much time in Toyota's, and I personally strongly dislike the company - mainly because their products all lack excitement or driving dynamics (I guess I can't say all, my experience is v…

Here's a blast from my past. When I got my first computer, I only had MS Paint to play around with and I found the drawings that I did pixel by pixel. Not too bad with what I had to work with. I'm guessing this was 1993/94.

* Anyone else love looking at old newspaper classifieds…? Have a few more from 1970s Des Moines IA newspapers to feature in the coming weeks! http://www.oldcarsstronghearts.com/2015/04/27/memory-monday-15/ A favorite part (among many) of my Route 66 road trip, September 2009, was spotting murals & cars. This was a great combo … with a Baxter Springs MO mural & a 1987 El Camino appearing in the pic I took! http://www.oldcarsstronghearts.com/2015/04/28/tuesday-trip-15/ Speaking of road trips, a cousin & I are planning a day road trip this Saturday, 05/02/2015, down to Staunton IL (from Chicagoland); forecasted weather should be perfect…. Pontiac Magazine Ads Also today while searching YouTube, I saw a 1965 GTO commerical. The first two seconds was a ad from the site it came from. Out of curiousity, I clicked on it and well, in the sense of Mag Ads I found a gold mine. Just looking at these evoke the emotion of what a Pontiac SHOULD BE. I'll post a few to get the ball rolling.

I have associations with each car produced. Which of the following make you think of an "older" (60+) womens car. It seems like every toyota camry is driven by women over 60, though I've known younger females whos father made them buy it because it was a good pick for their Mom.

About a month ago I was browsing the local Pontiac-Buick lot on a Sunday afternoon and I bump into my cousin's girlfriend's mother and her father who is 93. I had met them before at family events. I knew from talking to him before that he liked cars and that he had leased a 2002 Buick Century and when the lease was up in May he was supposed to give the car back and not get another one. It turns out the old guy couldn't go without wheels so he was back on the lot looking for a deal on an 06 and asked me if I would help him look around at different dealers to find him the color / model he liked. He wanted something different from the Century/ Lacrosse and decided on a G6. …
