ok, I made the last payment on the Aztek! Mine free and clear! Woo. Hoo. I had hoped by now to have sold or traded it, but such is not yet possible. It may be a few more months. And with the car markets the way it has been, the GM and Chrysler bailouts, the economic crash, prices skyrocketing on new and used, it kind of has blunted my enthusiasm on cars all around. But, with a little luck down the road maybe by the time the 2010's wind down and the 2011's trickle in, I may have the opportunity to get something. New for me means a new car or slightly used or even a used one that is just a great deal and has plenty of life left in it. The Taurus X is the othe…

... with the full-size Blazer and 2-door Tahoe have gotten me wondering. I wonder how long I can tap the used market for the great stuff GM no longer builds - the stuff I actually like. Almost all of those cars are getting difficult to find in pristine, low-mile, condition. The 2-door SUVs are a great example as they never built enough of them for the demand, consequently they have been in short supply from the outset. This has kept prices quite high even for very high-mileage examples. Seems to me, the same will be true for the GTO and other interesting GM cars going forward. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy rehabing the stuff I find, but it would be nice to find something i…

  5. I was thinking about this again last night while I walked back to my car after picking up some groceries at Safeway. I saw a beautiful silver/black 17 inch alloy 2006-7 Monte Carlo LT. It drove off and I saw some of its good angles. I thought to myself, had there been a little more "nip and tuck" to the styling update and had there been a 3800 V6 under the hood, I would have bought one...without a doubt. I still like my Buicks very much, but I know how much I like the coupe with bigger doors, buckets, a console and more of a wrap-around driver's environment. So I say "coupe"...even though I like sedans, though not as much. Your take?

So I went out to the dealers tonight to see what new models they had and took some pics of them. Unfortunately the lighting is always really bright at car dealerships at night so some of the pics turned out bad because of it, so I apologize for the poor quality of some of the pics (I actually deleted probably half of them because some were so bad). Anyways, first up was the G6 coupe. It looked better than I was expecting, and I actually quite liked the rear. The rearseat legroom looked very good for a coupe, and the interior looked much better with the new steering wheel. I think a GTP with the 18s would be quite a looker. Here is perhaps my favorite pic, I wasn…

Winter in NY sucks for one more reason. Potholes. By early March, these things aren't mere holes in the road, and in many cases, they're unavoidable. Case in point: late tonight I was on my way home doing around 35 when a trench (no, really) caught my eye about 10 feet ahead. I would've gladly swerved around this monster, but it crossed all 4 lanes of the road. With nowhere to go and not nearly enough time to stop, I took a deep breath and hit it straight on. This thing rocked my car hard enough for me to feel it. Luckily, my front bumper was saved, but I'm sure my suspension felt it. Ouch. How a crater this deep could even be allowed to exist is beyond me. …

I just got back from seeing Conan himself speak at the University at Buffalo and he was hilarious. He spoke for about two hours and he was his usual wacky self up on stage. Too many funny things to talk about. One of the many highlights of the show was when he told the students to vote for Tom Cruise to be the next person in the UB speaker series and to charge him on stage with foam bats and just beat him until he stops acting crazy. Another funny thing was how he interacted with the moderator of the questions. The two had a funny chemistry going. Much like how he interacts with Max Weinberg. He also had a few serious things to say about how the media makes p…

Do you think if the dustbusters or something really close looking to them) had been introduced now in the middle of the crossover craze and with wilder designed being more accepted, that they would have done a lot better? especially if they had a current interior.

These were taken earlier in the day before the snowfall ended, but you get the idea. Maybe they'll help everyone cool off. Car 1 Cars 2 and 3 (before car 3 was totalled) 8 AM 11 AM

So if you see said Camaro with said plate, stop and say hi ... Pics may be a little late, since I'm having surgery on April 1st, and no that is not an April Fool's joke

  65. With my never ending quest to improve my credit score as quickly as possible so that I can refinance the Camaro at a lower rate (have no credit rating right now). Anyways, with the holidays right around the corner, surely an increased number of stores will be offering interest free financing (if paid in 60 days, 6 months, 12 months, etc.). With that in mind, and with that being a third line of credit (auto loan, just got approved for a credit card), my credit score should go up quite quickly within the next 6-8 months. What would be really nice is if the financing would be available at low dollar amounts so that I could get the no interest financing at a couple of stor…

Well my little sis is needing a new car. She is driving a 96 Bonneville now. She has basically run it into the ground, the odometer stopped a couple years ago but I'm sure it has passed the 200000 mile barrier by now. The dealer is not going to give us anything for it so we are just going to be keeping it around the farm for small parts runs and stuff like that. There is an 01 Silverado with about 150000 on it on the farm that my dad wouldn't mind getting rid of so we took that to one of the smaller local dealers to see what they would give us for trade. He told me about 6800 which isn't great IMO. We looked around a little more and my sis found a used 06 grand prix …

Today is my 5th anniversary of joining Cheers and Gears. A warm thank you to Walt for inviting me here at the start, and to all the moderators, members, contributors, artists, writers, staff members, advanced member members, as well as the trolls (for making me laugh). I have spent half of my time on the internet with Cheers and Gears, having gone online in 1996 (then it was mainly Buletin Boards known as BBS' on a 14.4 modem). It has been a privelage and an honour to see the site grow, change, and advance over the years. I would like to say that one of my very first posts then still holds true today! 5 years of spare time, hows that?

Many people know that the best way to keep the underside of you car from rusting is to keep wash the salt from it every once in a while. You don't just want to let it be wet when you're done though, you want to air it out so it can dry.

It's a disappointing loss for the Chicago Bears, certainly, but it's also disappointing to see the "finger pointing" at Rex Grossman. He wasn't the only one on the field.... *shakes head* While I'm disappointed that the Bears lost, I am happy for my many friends who are staunch Colts supporters. It all started this morning on hempstead turnpike(6 lanes). I stopped at a stoplight like every normal citizen when all of a sudden the saturn got hit from behind. Not enough to deploy the airbags, but hard enough that I was shaking. So, I look back and see some late 20-something year old guy wiping coffee off of his dash. So I put my hazards on and pulled into the nearest parking lot. He followed. Of course he was in a new Sonota. Fortunatelly there was no damage to my car. His front plate was dented but it was his fault. Turns out he was looking to get his coffee for a sip and didn't stop at the light....therefore crashing into me. So, I wasted 5 minute of my life freak…

For a car with 170'000K, he doesn't want to keep pumping money into it... meaning he's in the market for a new vehicle. Well, I tried to give Chrysler my money on one of the Jeep Commanders...but it keeps letting us down. It has failed - in the garage - THREE times now. Exact same issue: The battery completely drains after the car is left for 12 hours or more. The first time, it was jumped through roadside assistance (so it would be documented) and we drove it to the dealership. Everything tested fine, so we took it home. Three months later, dead. Towed it to the dealership. They claimed the battery was more than likely discharged by the cell phone charger in the outlet and told us to eliminate the cell phone charger - as 'this happens all the time'...I asked the guy nicely if the …

C&D has plenty of good things to say about it, as well. Here's the review for those interested- http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/2016-jaguar-xf-35t-r-sport-test-review. As always, you have from 10% under the base price, up to 10% over the as-tested price to spend on a car in roughly the same genre. Going up or down a size is allowed, but no 2-seat sports coupes or SUV's, obviously. Base price was $61,645. As-tested was $74,785. Price range allotted- $55,480-82,265. You must spen…

This time, in the form of a 50 year old woman driving a Volvo. Luckily, it wasn't too serious. I was making a right turn out of a Rite Aid parking lot onto a main road. The Volvo was in front of me attempting to do the same. She pulled out and saw a car coming, changed her mind, and shifted into reverse. She had no idea I was behind her, and slammed into me. The damage isn't too bad. The driver's side of my front bumper took the hit. The lower lip is disconnected from the bumper, there are a few long horizontal cracks in the bumper itself, and it'll all need to be repainted. If she were driving an SUV it would have been much worse, as my hood likely would'v…

OK, this analogy popped on the top of my mind for some reason: Chevrolet -> A jug of water. Two parts hydrogen, one part oxygen. The necessities of everyone. Pontiac -> A nice bottle of beer, chilled to the right temperature. What GM is basically doing, by giving Pontiac rebadge Chevys, GM is pouring water into beer. It's like... who wants to drink diluted beer? Beer has H2O naturally in it (platform sharing), but don't pour it in directly! :alcoholic: :P And here's another one: Toyota -> A bottle of methanol wine. At the moment you're drinking it, it tastes just like wine, but eventually it'll make you blind and kill you.
