... with the full-size Blazer and 2-door Tahoe have gotten me wondering. I wonder how long I can tap the used market for the great stuff GM no longer builds - the stuff I actually like. Almost all of those cars are getting difficult to find in pristine, low-mile, condition. The 2-door SUVs are a great example as they never built enough of them for the demand, consequently they have been in short supply from the outset. So I went out to the dealers tonight to see what new models they had and took some pics of them. Unfortunately the lighting is always really bright at car dealerships at night so some of the pics turned out bad because of it, so I apologize for the poor quality of some of the pics (I actually deleted probably half of them because some were so bad). Winter in NY sucks for one more reason. Potholes. By early March, these things aren't mere holes in the road, and in many cases, they're unavoidable. Case in point: late tonight I was on my way home doing around 35 when a trench (no, really) caught my eye about 10 feet ahead. I would've gladly swerved around this monster, but it crossed all 4 lanes of the road. With nowhere to go and not nearly enough time to stop, I took a deep breath and hit it straight on. I just got back from seeing Conan himself speak at the University at Buffalo and he was hilarious. He spoke for about two hours and he was his usual wacky self up on stage. Too many funny things to talk about. One of the many highlights of the show was when he told the students to vote for Tom Cruise to be the next person in the UB speaker series and to charge him on stage with foam bats and just beat him until he stops acting crazy. Anybody ever heard of this before? I stumbled across this today and it sounds pretty cool...I wish GM would have produced it. The Lumina Z50 idea was born in 1988 and was a Chevy Lumina with a 305 V8, AWD, and a five speed transmission. It would have had 285 hp and 280 lb ft of torque.

Ok...so as it happens I came across someone who is parting out their `99 300M. He says the motors good and only has 30k on it (not sure if that's the car or just the engine yet). He said he's willing to negotiate a price for the whole car minus what he's parting out. What I want to know is what is a good price and if it's worth the effort. It's located RI, so it means 2-3 hours to drive down there to look at it, 2-3 back. The problem is getting it back if I were to buy it. I don't know what tow rates are but I image that would cost a lot. Junkyard is offering me $650 for a complete engine drop...I have to go down and look the engine over still. So the question is…

My dad's getting rid of his 2008 Infiniti M35x in favor of a 2010 Chevy Malibu 2LT. The reason for the change is really it had gotten difficult for him to drive a car all the time and he's taking over his wife's SUV (2008 Mercury Mariner)...and his wife found the Infiniti to be "too fancy" and wouldn't drive it. So *really* this will be his wife's car (and she used to have an Aveo), but I'm still happy I was able to talk him into a Malibu as I really hated the Subaru Legacy GT which was their other choice. One of my friends is buying the Inifiniti for his wife. And yes, I did use guilt and "as a taxpayer, you own part of GM" to squash the Subaru deal...finding a buye…

Well my little sis is needing a new car. She is driving a 96 Bonneville now. She has basically run it into the ground, the odometer stopped a couple years ago but I'm sure it has passed the 200000 mile barrier by now. The dealer is not going to give us anything for it so we are just going to be keeping it around the farm for small parts runs and stuff like that. Today is my 5th anniversary of joining Cheers and Gears. A warm thank you to Walt for inviting me here at the start, and to all the moderators, members, contributors, artists, writers, staff members, advanced member members, as well as the trolls (for making me laugh). I have spent half of my time on the internet with Cheers and Gears, having gone online in 1996 (then it was mainly Buletin Boards known as BBS' on a 14.4 modem). It has been a privelage and an honour to see the site grow, change, and advance over the years. I came home a week early. I made it...what an adventure. I had to overnight in London because I came into one major airport (Heathrow) and out of another (Gatwick). Well, I tried to give Chrysler my money on one of the Jeep Commanders...but it keeps letting us down. It has failed - in the garage - THREE times now. Exact same issue: The battery completely drains after the car is left for 12 hours or more. The first time, it was jumped through roadside assistance (so it would be documented) and we drove it to the dealership. Everything tested fine, so we took it home. Three months later, dead. Towed it to the dealership. This time, in the form of a 50 year old woman driving a Volvo. Luckily, it wasn't too serious. I was making a right turn out of a Rite Aid parking lot onto a main road. The Volvo was in front of me attempting to do the same. She pulled out and saw a car coming, changed her mind, and shifted into reverse. She had no idea I was behind her, and slammed into me. The damage isn't too bad. The driver's side of my front bumper took the hit.
