Buick
Founded in 1903 by David Dunbar Buick, Buick is one of America’s oldest automobile brands and the oldest active division of General Motors (GM). Known for pioneering innovations like the overhead valve engine, Buick became a symbol of affordable luxury throughout the 20th century. It played a key role in GM’s growth and today positions itself between Chevrolet and Cadillac, offering premium vehicles in both the U.S. and China—its largest market.

Wheels: Lucerne should broaden Buick's appeal to younger set Thursday, February 02, 2006 By Don Hammonds, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Growing up in the 1950s, one of my favorite memories was an olive green 1949 Buick Roadmaster Convertible that my next-door neighbor proudly drove around town. That car had that indefinable something called presence. You couldn't take your eyes off of it and there was a certain air of romance about it as it headed down the road. Buick always stood for just that -- presence, glamour and the romance of the American road. And thanks to Buick's newest full size sedan, the Lucerne, General Motors' upper-end car division has recaptured that past…

I heard from a dealer friend of mine that a production Enclave is on display at the Buick Championship in suburban Hartford, Connecticut until Sunday, July 2. It's black. I live on Long Island and won't be able to see it, but if anyone lives up that way it might be worth checking out.

Think about it. Younger people (under 30) purchasing new Buicks and spending more money customizing them. This makes me especially anxious to see how these eleven SEMA Lucernes will look. Imagine if Buick could reinforce their image as purveyors of old-school iron scrappers, at least when it comes to customization. I don't think that would be a bad thing at all.

On July 31st my salesman sent me an e-mail and said the car I ordered (LaCrosse Super) was built last week at the #2 Oshawa assembly plant and should arrive any day. Well it still hasn't. He gave me a copy of the build order. I'm wondering if there was any way I could check online to see if the car has left the plant yet and is in transit. I know this sounds ridiculous, but I'm getting a little worried about it. Thanks.

Well, I just came back from a 400mi trip in the Lexus ES 350 and here are my thoughts. 1) At 75mph, the Lexus ES has SIGNIFICANTLY more wind noise than a "Quiet Tuned" Lucerne. 2) The ES has a lot of road noise on coarse pavement, more than a Lucerne on any pavement I drove on. 3) Stomp the throttle for passing and the ES gives a muted howl, its much quieter than the Lucerne at WOT. So I stand by my words, the Lucerne is a quiet car on the highway, provided you don't get on the gas much. The Lucerne needs an engine as quiet as the Lexus ES to fit my definition of "quiet tuning."

CARS.com is always updated (and accurately) ahead of the BUICK website. Just as BUICK rolled out the LaX Super and axed the CXS model, looks like the same thing is happening with the Lucerne CXS. You can now build a Lucerne Super on CARS, but the CXS has disappeared. It also looks like they rebundled some of the option packages as well on Lucerne.

Anyone with a Rainier, Rendezvous, or Lucerne can you measure the navigation/radio unit? Im trying to see if I can get it to fit in my regal easier. I wonder how hard it would be to wire it up. I think the Rainier looks like the best fit, but I need to know how big it is. Stock Radio.. Buick Rainier... Buick Rendezvous... Buick Lucerne...

This is kind of late considering the PA is no more, but I was behind one in traffic last night and observed what a nicely designed rear end they have...(it was a dark blue late model version with 'supercharged' badging). I don't see big Buicks around here very often, and following one in an SUV you get an interesting view down on the rear end...the way the rear fenders curve up and then down and inward..definitely a strong family resembalance to the last Riviera. The last PA was a great looking car, IMHO.

The GM FastLane Blog presents a transcript of a recent speech by Bob Lutz, under the heading "Re-Igniting the Passion," dated April 13, 2006. In the transcript, Lutz is quoted that GM has big plans for Saturn and all of its brands. So I posted a message asking for more information. In case they do not use it, here is what I wrote: "Mr. Lutz, it was interesting to read your statement, "So we have big plans for Saturn, as we do for all of our brands." We can certainly see and GM has clearly explained what is in store for Saturn. But GM has done a poor job relating what is the future for one of your cornerstone brands, Buick. No one is asking you to reveal future prod…

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Buick-CXL-B...1QQcmdZViewItem The door panels look great, better than the DTS's, but the dash... it's just lacking something. The HVAC/stereo controls look particularly downmarket. And outside, from the side, it looks like a flattened asymmetrical bell. Still, nice to see progress. Most of the materials look fine. And the anthracite wheels look great, though they don't fit the car's body. Unlike the Lucerne, the DTS doesn't look like it's floating, even with the 17" wheels.

A coworker's 50k Impala is in the shop (oil and water leaks) so the dealership (my old dealer group actually) gave a new Regal loaner. (disclaimer, they have recently gotten like 10 new 13's that aren't going anywhere any time soon). She is impressed with the car, the leather is 'silky smooth'. It's 'smaller than the Impala though'. Otherwise it's apparently just a nice car. We know the Regals lack some real bling and wow. I like Regals a lot. I think a big problem is it is not much bigger than a Verano, but it sells at a near LaCrosse price. Malibu Turbo is arguably the same car with the possibility for a better price. Buick made some great improvements for 20…

2012 Buick Regal eAssist and GS Pricing Announced Arrival of fuel-efficient eAssist and performance-oriented GS broaden Regal's reach 2011-08-04 DETROIT – Buick's Regal offerings will double this fall, with the arrival of the new technologically advanced 2012 Regal with eAssist and the performance-oriented 2012 Regal GS, which are expected to broaden the appeal of the hot-selling midsize luxury sport sedan. Regal with eAssist will start at $29,530, and Regal GS will start at $35,310; both prices include $860 in destination charges. The eAssist system is a $2,000 option on the Regal base model, mated to a 2.4L Ecotec engine. Buick will continue to offer the base model …

There's a set of spy shots of a Regal wagon floating around the 'net, and it looks good. Not sure if I'm a fan of the "no rear bumper" look, though, as it puts the liftgate right out there, very vulnerable to damage in even a very minor rear end collision... sort of like a current CR-V. I'd love to see a chop of the white Regal wagon with woodgrain sides and whitewalls, just for old times' sake. Is anyone game?

I got an email today from Buick about the new Regal and noticed something odd at the very end... Born in Europe. Raised on the Autobahn. The sport-injected 2011 Buick Regal is powered and tuned to deliver the precise, agile handling of a premium sport sedan, coming Spring 2010. Regal comes standard with a 2.4L ECOTEC™ SIDI Variable-valve timing engine that puts out 182 hp. Plus, it's paired with a 6-speed transmission that features Driver Shift Control. And to make your driving experience that much more dynamic, Regal boasts a class-exclusive Interactive Driver Control system that offers three selectable modes to adjust suspension, steering, throttle and transmission s…

I am currently looking for a used (2002-2004) Park Avenue. My initial thought was only the Ultra would do...but I've found some great deals on the regular Park Ave, which has left me thinking that maybe I don't really "need" the Ultra. I am unaware of any inherent problems with the supercharged motors, but I thought I might ask everyone for some input.... I have discovered that Buick recommends premium fuel on the Ultra (as if anyone can afford premium these days...)

I know there are people who bash GM for selling any of it's vehicles to rental car companies, as if that is the only way they could sell their vehicles, but I think it's a good marketing tool in the sense that you can really find out about a car when you take it on a 5 day test drive. My wife and I rented a V8 Lucerne a couple of weeks ago and we both fell in love with it. Even my wife had sort of bought into the perception gap thing that Buicks were for "old people". But after spending quite a bit of time in it, she began to realize how great the car really is. Not only is it really gorgeous on the exterior, but it's like a vault when you're cruising at 85 down th…

In the 2010-Present LaCrosse, the Door Unlock is on the center console. Holding unlock does not unlock the trunk as it did in the previous generation LaCrosse. I find it ridiculous there's no way to unlock the trunk from the inside of the car. If I have someone running to the car in the rain with their hands full, I have to get out of the car to open the trunk for them and get wet myself, OR shut the car off to use the fob (the trunk release doesn't work on the fob if the car is running). Why would GM make it impossible to open the trunk from inside the car while the car is running and parked? Secondly, I use a USB flash drive to store music and play back in the car.…

During a lull in work this afternoon I was nosing around a Buick Pontiac dealer in West Palm Beach. A CXL V-6 model was in the showroom. It was platinum with a gray interior, six person seating. To tell you the truth it did not look bad for a base model with leather, chrome wheels and driver confidence package. The seating is comfortable and the dash and interior looks a lot cleaner than what I am accustomed to. The body lines are interesting in person. The horizontal body crease just below the belt line flattens out, disppears, around the wheel wells. The creases in the hood flatten out and disappear as they go down toward the grille. I looked at a black Lucerne CXS tha…

I sold the Park Avenue Ultra shown in my signature. After 2 years and 40,000 miles it was time to let somebody else enjoy it before pushing it over the 50,000 mile mark. I never intended to keep it forever. One reason is that when it was originally offered to me I was led to believe that it had a shale interior; when I drove from Florida to North Carolina and saw it, the interior was gray. Despite realizing then I had been had by this country-boy dealer, being the good sport that I am I took the car anyway and made the best of the situation. I have been shopping around for another vehicle and can't make up my mind what one to drive. I was offered a lease payment…

While we were talking about the Escalade EXT launch with Susan Docherty (don't ask) during the Regal reveal at the Hollywood Palladium last week, Car & Driver's Steve Siler was pushing Maximum Bob about sportier versions of the newest Buick. Now, we heard mumblings about a new Buick Regal GS last month, but that was just dealer hearsay. Siler's report is straight from Lutz's mouth, and while he's not exactly the most reliable GM exec we've ever talked with, he does seem to have his finger on the General's performance pulse. To summarize a bit, a 335-hp, all-wheel-drive manny-tranny version of the Regal might be coming, labeled with the legendary GS badge. There might…

Essentially, no changes, as we already know. The standard content has gone up to include the leather wheel, the tilt and telescope and a few other items. The optional package is $ 495, which includes (1) the folding rear seat, (2) the power lumbar, and (3) heated seats. I guess that's not SO bad, since the split rear seat cost $ 275 last M.Y. Comment on styling: the new front end is better but not THAT great. IMO, it is TOO tall for the front fascia and the chrome bars are too pronounced. The new shape is definitely the way it should have been, but it should have been a little more understated. Did not bother to get inside. It was 106 degrees in Sin City today…

While I am not a die hard Buick guy I saw the new Lacrosse today at the Cleveland Auto SHow today. It was a very impressive car. The interior is fantastic and the over styling less the grill was spot on. The grill I thought could be shorter but it was not anything that would keep me from considering one. GM should do well with this car if it is price right.

With Congress still yet to decide the fate of GM's return to profitability plan, Buick's role has potentially transformed from a 'niche' brand in the USA back into a core brand… a core brand that could potentially offer a full line of cars with the possibility of a crossover or two when all is said and done. So, what should Buick's line-up look like when all the pieces fall into place? Several suggestions have been tossed around in other related topics, but let's try to consolidate our future visions of Buick's line-up here. A wishlist line-up if you will... I'll start: (Yes, I'm borrowing from some suggestions already given because I agree with them ) CUVs …

Well my wife has been whispering in my ear that she wants a new SUV to replace the 2005 Chevrolet Equinox LT AWD that she drives. I told her that's fine but I was not happy with the Chevy dealer that we used last time and her choices would be anything that Buick, Pontiac, GMC sells, so I can continue to get the great service from my Buick/Pontiac/GMC dealership that I receive. We are looking to buy about this time next year. Tonight we happened to be going by the dealership so we stopped to only looked at the Buick Enclave. This was a pretty loaded SUV (I might add it was hard to read anything on the sticker as the window was heavily tinted) and when I got to the sticker…

Struggling to appeal to young buyers, Buick pins its future on change Friday, November 18, 2005 By Don Hammonds, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Buick, the linchpin around which General Motors built its empire, lately has been part of the problem rather than part of the solution for the struggling automaker. Like other GM makes, analysts say, Buick has been slow to respond to changes in market tastes, has kept cars on the market for too long without significant changes, and has a lingering consumer perception of quality control problems.... http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/05322/608337.stm

Okay.....most of you know I'm not a W-body fan.....but I've said repeatedly that I think the styling upgrades on the '08 LaCrosse Super are quite attractive and would most likely make it the GM model I'd buy if locked into one of the three W-bodies.... Have any of you seen the print ad in this month's magazines? It talks all about the new Super....the styling changes.....the chassis improvements.....and even hints that it might be "quicker than a Grand National" (which it's not....Impala SS went 0-60 in 5.7 secs compared to contemporary GN road tests of the times that had the GN just under 5.0sec 0-60.) But NO WHERE in the entire ad does it mention that the Super has a…

In a blog, Paul Eisenstein of The Car Connection revealed on January 11, 2008 that what we're seeing as the Buick Riviera Concept Vehicle is, in fact, a good indication of what the NG Buick LaCrosse will look like. Eisenstein says, in part, "In production form, as the next LaCrosse, the prototype will give up the gullwings and gain an additional two conventional doors. The 'Shanghai-by-night' interior will be toned down a fair degree, but the overall resemblance will be obvious and, insiders insist, striking. The cabin will boast a much more Lexus-like look . . . 'It will be one killer LaCrosse,' promises [ Dave ] Lyon [ of GM ]." To read the entire report, click here…

While getting my 01 Regal LS winterized this morning, the salesman who sold me the Regal offered a one-owner 05 Lacrosse with 10,000 miles for a test drive. It was a silver CXL. I checked to see if it fit the garage (it did) and took it out 10 miles out of town to check highway driving. It was hard to tell if it was quieter than the Regal, as we have a lot of wind in central Kansas right now, but it seemed so while in town. Ride was very tight and controlled and brakes felt confident, and much improved over my Regal. In fact, the ABS brakes on my car have been checked twice because of pulsing, but no problems have ever been found. Seats, while somewhat less conforming an…

Thanks for all the info on the new Buicks. Great stuff and it has many of us very excited about Buick's future. I have a couple of questions. Were there any possible names being discussed for the crossover? Are Buick dealers pushing for the Velite convertible?

Earlier in the year C&G uncovered images of a yet to be seen Buick model that we were unsure of its origin. However with the latest news on a new "Super" line of Buicks set to be released the obvious became clear. We've found the new face of the LaCrosse. We expect this FWD, V8 LaCrosse to debut late in '07 with the entire line-up featuring this new grille and facia look in '08. When referring to this story please do NOT copy & paste the information instead LINK TO this story! Very Special Thanks to CSpec for the information provided above!

Here are select photos I took at the Chicago Auto Show, all at Buick's exhibit. I hope that fellow Buick fans will enjoy them: I can tell you that the Enclave is beautiful! I was worried that it would be too big for me, but, in person, it didn't seem too big. Chunky or hefty, yes, but I don't mean that in a bad way, just a descriptive adjective. It looks very substantial. Though I arrived not long after the Show opened for the day, there were a lot of people looking at the various Buicks. The biggest variety of ages were looking at the Enclave. Mostly older people (gray hair) were looking at Lucerne (shown in about 4 different colors and trim…

Buick: A brand rechanneled Automotive News / August 21, 2006 - 6:00 am LaCrosse: Buick plans to offer a 5.3-liter V-8 for the 2007 model year. A redesign is expected for the 2010 model year, possibly on General Motors' front-wheel-drive Epsilon 2 architecture. To reduce costs, all vehicles developed on Epsilon 2 (Chevrolet and Opel, for example) will be engineered by GM Europe in Ruesselsheim, Germany. U.S. operations are to provide specifications for such things as ride and handling. Styling will be determined by the region that will market the car. The LaCrosse will be styled by GM North America. Powertrains will differ by region. Lucerne: A rear-wheel-drive Luc…

Buick is hoping to become the American Lexus - and the '06 Lucerne is the model Buick hopes will change buyer's hearts and minds. Or at the very least, get them to give Buick a shot at their business before they buy their next Lexus. Based on the car itself, they should. The Lucerne, which replaces the Park Avenue as Buick's top model, stands a good chance of changing their image dynamic and of doing so without completely alienating the current buyer pool. This is a handsome ride, for starters, smooth and purposeful. The Lucerne has a steeply sloped windshield, a crisp beltline and minimalist ornamentation save for a nicely done reinterpretation of the classic Bu…

So....CTS went in for some minor warranty work....and I snagged a brand-spanking-new Enclave CXL as a loaner!!!!! It's so refreshing and exciting to get into a brand-new GM product and have such a strong "feel-good" reaction because the product is not only good-looking, but makes you feel so good to sit in and drive. This is a new GM product that really needs no excuses.........and man does it get looks on the road! The Enclave is so impressive in person and when you are behind the wheel, it made me search out RX350s, BMW X5s, and Audi Q7s.....just to see those owners' reactions to this sylish new Buick. The sales people at a Ford/Lincoln store I was at (to see a clie…

When I was drooling over the Enclave pics, I started to wonder what the other Lambdas would look like, and then I remembered that there is a Buick minivan off Lambda planned. With the Enclave though, there'd be no reason to make it. Seriously, how many people are going to buy a minivan over the Enclave just because of sliding doors? Here are some reasons why there is no need for a Buick minivan: 1) A large portion of possible sales of the minivan would just go to the Enclave instead. 2) If they're going to do a Buick minivan, I think we agree it should be well differeniated from its lesser siblings, and this means increased development dollars. 3) If you're on a t…

I'm thinking about getting a Buick Lucerne CXL V6 model for my next car. I've read some reviews (not too detailed though) and it seems it is a good buy. I'm very interested in it's features, comfort and of course the quietness. The other car I was looking at was the Impala LTZ, but this does not offer the features that I like. I was wondering if anyone else own a CXL or if they had any comments on it?
