DETROIT Nov 22, 2005 — The Honda Civic, which in its latest incarnation offers drivers a more sleek and upscale take on the popular compact car, has claimed the honor of 2006 Car of the Year from Motor Trend magazine. All four new Civic models a sedan, a coupe, a high-performance model called the Si and a gasoline-electric hybrid were given the award. "Honda deserves a standing ovation for not playing it safe again," Motor Trend's editor in chief, Angus MacKenzie, said in a statement Tuesday. "The engineering passion that Honda … was founded on radiates from these new Civics." Motor Trend editors put the Civics through two weeks of track testing, performance dr…

My coworker drives a Civic sedan (he got it instead of the coupe for practicality reasons). Yesterday I road with him so he could show me an apartment complex that was rather confusing to figure out...I'm sure I'll get lost the first time I deliver there. But I digress. The car is very roomy inside with top-notch interior materials that include a soft-touch upper dash, soft touch upper door panels, and fabric padded armrests on the center one and the doors. The hard plastics were well textures and pleasing to touch. I didn't mess with the switchgear but it all looked very easy to use. The design itself is really cool. the speedo is huge and easy to read the numbers, and…

If you want a six-cylinder engine in your midsize sedan, the selection of models has been steadily declining. At the moment, you can only get a six from Ford, Honda, Nissan, Subaru, Toyota, and Volkswagen. Come the 2018 model year, there will be one less automaker. Honda announced today that next-generation Accord, due later this year, will feature two turbocharged four-cylinders. The base will be a 1.5L four-cylinder (most likely from the Civic with 174 horsepower and 169 pound-feet of torque) and a 2.0L four-cylinder with i-VTEC valvetrain - derived from the Civic Type R. Offical power figures are not out, but Honda says both engines will have the option of a…

While enjoying the Cutlass, I got to check out a new Accord sedan, among a few other vehicles, last week. I'll start off by saying it exceeded my expectations. It looks great in person, all the body's lines and surfacing really set it off nicely. The proportions were nearly perfect and the detailing was nice. The only aspects of it I disliked were the bulging headlights and the rather plain trunk panel. Otherwise, the exterior had no faults in my eyes. As well, the interior looked quite elegant with its flowing dash and door panels. Packaging seemed to be top notch with it being very roomy inside. Interior quality was decidedly good except for the plastic south of the woo…

Though there might be 5 people here who will take my word for it, I decided I'd post about my experience with the new for 2007 CR-V, a car poised to make great volume gains for Honda. Let me preface this by saying I've only driven two direct competitors and those are the Rav4 and Escape, as of today. I would love to sample the Vue, since in terms of overall design polish I believe it's currently at or near the top of the heap. In person, the new design is substantial and completely modern. There is good and bad to the design, but it mostly flows with Honda's new directive of engaging style as seen with the Civic. It retains the relatively humble and distinct Honda face …

http://motortrend.com/features/news/2005/1...ck_of_the_year/ Well, its a joke everyone. A big fat joke. Angus MacKenzie has clearly ruined what was once a credible auto publication. Im sending a letter to the editor regarding the subject, and would hope you would all do the same. Unbelievable. Astonishing. Disgraceful. There is no amount of hyperbole that can appropriately describe the joke that is your choice for TOTY. Have you taken a look at the reality of this thing? Eleven months into the year and they are 14,000 units short of their anticipated sales goal. The truck runs on a mini-van derived platform. It has only one bed-cab-engine configuration. It cant g…

Honda Motor Co. has decided not to build an eight-cylinder engine because high fuel prices are pushing buyers to more efficient motors. The company will focus instead on expanding diesel and gasoline-electric engine output. "It's not the time to make a V-8," Honda Chief Executive Takeo Fukui said. "We need to focus on diesels and hybrids first." Fukui told reporters in Tokyo Aug. 4 that Honda was studying whether to build V-8 engines and "will decide in three years" on using them. He said Tuesday that the company has dropped any plan to build the motors. Honda this year expects to build 70,000 diesel motors, for models in Euro…

As I can see it, a very common problem with the new Civic is that the driver forgets to turn on their headlights. This brings two things: 1. Why doesn't the Civic have automatic headlamps? A lot of cars at the price point have it. And no, the one I saw wasn't a base model. Even the Cobalt has it. 2. Is the fancy LED backed dashboard really useful, or just for show? I know, not just the Civic has it, Lexus and some others have it too. But the thing is though, it was on, without the headlights on. Traditionally, it's a given fact that if the dashboard is lighted, then headlights or parking lamps are on. Doesn't that just convey a wrong message to the driver if the lig…

A month before its showroom debut, we take a close look at — and a hard drive in — Honda's entry-level hatchback By Peter Lyon Date posted: 03-09-2006 Honda's mighty little Fit is already big news in Japan and Europe. Arguably the most practical super-mini on sale in both markets, the Fit will finally land in U.S. showrooms in April. So why did Honda wait until now to introduce its four-door hatchback into the U.S.? Ask the PR types and they'll tell you that the company wasn't sure this small people mover would catch on. Or they might say that it didn't have the size or space for the local market. Well, things have changed over the last couple of years in the U.S. s…

We knew it was coming, but it was still a shock when Honda announced that the Accord Coupe would be no more with the next-generation model. As The Truth About Cars notes, about 5 percent of Accord sales were the coupe. That means out of 345,225 Accords sold last year, about 17,200 were for the coupe. Despite dropping the coupe, Honda believes buyers of the coupe will switch over to the sedan. “The sedan has dramatic enough styling to appeal to coupe intenders,” said Sage Marie, American Honda spokesman at the reveal of the 2018 Accord to Wards Auto. The key words in that quote is 'coupe intenders'. We have to wonder how many of the buyers of the Accord Cou…

2008 Honda Civic MUGEN Si Sedan Preview Honda promises a lighter, tighter Civic sedan by Marty Padgett | Link to Original Article @ TCC | (2007-07-23) Honda's longtime tuner colleagues at Mugen have tricked out the Civic Si sedan for the 2008 model year, with a specially tuned suspension, forged aluminum wheels, aero body add-ons and new tires. Honda says the biggest changes to the stock Civic's suspension tuning have made it quicker around the Twin Ring Motegi track in Japan. Mugen tuners have lowered the Civic's ride height by 0.6 inches, and have boosted the damping on the front and rear suspension. The forged wheels are lighter-weight aluminum even though they've …

The echo of a sad trombone could be heard when Honda announced that the new Civic Si would only produce 205 horsepower from a turbocharged 1.5L four-cylinder. Fans were hoping for a bit more power and Honda's engineers say there is more power on tap. But there are two key reasons as to why the Japanese automaker did this. The engineers said "you can tune more power into it, but all of that takes away from the durability of the engine," said Rob Keough, senior product planner on the Civic to Automotive News. "Honda likes to build their engines to last hundreds of thousands of miles, so they're working toward that target." The other reason comes down to price…

In C&D's October issue, they do a preview of the new Accord. They go on about how much bigger the car is, how the styling is plain, how the controls are hard to decipher, and at the very end they said that the Accord is 32 years old, going on 62. HAHAHAHAHA! With an average age of 50, the Accord is growing into the old man's car. Interesting review I thought, and I didn't think it was a very good one. Anyone else read the review? What did you think?

Honda has announced pricing for the maddest Civic to date. The 2017 Civic Type R will set you back $34,775 (includes $875.00 destination charge). This confirms the price we saw on a window sticker last month . Honda will only be selling the Type R in the high-spec Touring trim. This will net you LED lighting, 12-speaker audio system, 7-inch touchscreen with HondaLink, navigation, keyless entry, and push-button start. A turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder produces 306 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. This comes paired solely with a six-speed manual. Other performance tweaks for the Type R includes an aero package, revised suspension with adaptive dampers, Brembo br…

Honda has finally given us a taste of the forbidden fruit that is known as the Civic Type R. But the Japanese automaker has plans to introduce new variants of the Type R to broaden the audience and keep sales fresh. “We’re hoping that by gradually putting out more [variants] that we’ll be able to maintain a more stable sales volume,” Hideki Matsumoto, chief engineer for the Civic model range to Automotive News. Topping the list of variants is a more hardcore Type R offering up more power. Honda is also considering a toned-down Type R that is “focused more on the grand touring aspect” to help broaden the target market. The most interesting idea on the table is ma…

For 2019, the most well equipped Honda Pilot you could buy was the Elite trim. That level of Pilot brought on extra trimmings like panoramic roof, standard All-Wheel drive with variable torque management, heated and ventilated front seats, heated steering wheel, heated 2nd row, and other trappings. For 2020, Honda is building on that trim and elevating it higher with the Black Edition. Based on the Elite trim, the Black Edition comes exclusively in Crystal Black Pearl Paint, black painted 20-inch alloy wheels, and blackout treatments that remove the exterior chrome trim. I guess buying enough advertising-space in MotorTrend to ensure Truck of the Year just doesn't mean much to consumers.. http://www.autoweek.com/apps/pbcs.dll/arti...E/60206007/1041 151-day supply for a brand new vehicle is an extremely poor showing. 53 with "heavy dealer incentives" (LOL) isn't exactly encouraging either. While the truck does fill a niche, I'm not sure the public really wants that niche filled.. especially at the price Honda is asking for this pseudo-truck.

Honda introduced its Acura RDX at the New York Auto Show earlier this month. Still under wraps, however, is the sister vehicle, the Honda CR-V, which will be built on the same platform. Now this latest spy shot captures a prototype CR-V closely following a prototype Acura RDX as they both undergo testing inAustralia. The overall size and shape of the two vehicles is quite similar, but there are numerous differences. Disguise on the side of the CR-V make it look to have side windows similar in shape to the RDX, but a closer look reveals that the side windows of the CR-V curve downward towards the rear, giving the windows a profile shape quite different from the RDX. Honda has set up a secret “goodwill” warranty program that may save 2003-04 CR-V and Element owners millions of dollars in windshield replacement costs. The ‘goodwill’ warranty is contained in a technical service bulletin filing the automaker recently made under the United States government’s TREAD act. Honda’s confidential bulletin clearly states the manufacturer has a serious problem with cracking windshields that suffer from factory-related mistakes. Unfortunately, while Honda has this secret warranty extension in its back pocket, dealers are telling owners to seek payment from their insurance companies, resulting in higher insurance premiums for affected owners.” Th…

Incentives up sharply at Honda Troubled segments, old models targeted Honda Division is piling on the incentives this year - a sharp turnabout from its usual ultra-stingy approach to offering spiffs. Honda still doesn't offer cash rebates to customers and says it doesn't plan to. But the division is cranking up dealer incentives and lease subsidies like never before. In June, its average payout per vehicle was $1,221, according to Edmunds. 2007 Honda Element - Low APR, $1000 dealer cash 2007 Honda Odyssey - Low APR 2007 Honda Pilot - $3500 dealer cash 2007 Honda Ridgeline - $3500 dealer cash 2007 Honda S2000 - $2000 dealer cash

Honda may cut production of Accord hybrid Slow sales due to consumers being uncertain about fuel savings, exec says Julie Jacobson / AP file Updated: 2:20 p.m. ET April 13, 2006 NEW YORK - Honda Motor Co. may cut production of the Honda Accord hybrid because sales have been so slow, Honda Executive Vice President Dick Colliver said Thursday at the New York Auto Show. Colliver was the second executive in as many days to question the direction of hybrid sales during media previews for the show, which opens to the public Friday. Nissan Motor Co. Chief Executive Carlos Ghosn said Wednesday that hybrid sales appear to be slowing down, something he has warned could happe…

Honda was hoping to surprise us all with the power figures of the upcoming Civic Si, but part of the surprise has been spoiled. A member of the CivicX forum posted an email from Honda saying the Civic Si would boast 192 pound-feet of torque from a turbocharged 1.5L four. This number was confirmed by a Honda representative to Road & Track. Compared to the outgoing Si's naturally-aspirated 2.4L engine, the new engine produces 18 more pound-feet (174 vs. 192). We still have questions for the upcoming Civic Si. What is the horsepower rating for the Civic Si? Also, does all of the torque arrive on the low end or high end of the rpm band? We'll hopefully have ans…

Someone at Honda is going to be yelled at. An eagle-eyed member of the CivicX forum caught the next-generation Civic parked outside of a building in Ann Arbor, MI. Compared to the Civic Coupe concept shown at New York, the production sedan retains a number of details such as the fastback shape and bold front end treatment. We have to admit that the Civic is quite the looker. We'll have more information and pictures when Honda officially introduces the next-generation Civic on Wednesday. Honda Civic No Longer Recommended by Consumer Reports August 1, 2011 Cory Wolfe - CheersandGears.com Yes, you read the title correctly, Honda's long-time recommended Civic has now lost its recommended rating with Consumer Reports. Not only that, it is now ranked near the bottom of its class. According to the consumer product testing organization, the new Civic's shortcomings have been eclipsed by "the high bar set in this class by the new-to-market Chevrolet Cruze, the redesigned-for-2012 Ford Focus, and the redesigned-for-2011 Hyundai Elantra". It's more than just the new comers, with its ratings dropping low enough to fall behind every competitor except the recent…

Anyone else find it funny that the big Motor Trend Car of the Year and Truck of the Year awards along with the North American Car of the Year and Truck of the year awards aligned JUST PERFECTLY with the new HUGE advertising push Honda is doing right now????? ***FUNNY*** how those lined up so well.... Honda got 4 new BS awards (That it didn't deserve) to smear all over it's edgy new advertising. I've seriously NEVER seen a Honda advertising push as large as the one we're seeing right now. And an even bigger surprise: One of the vehicles awarded is the new hot model that we're trying to kick start sales on (Maybe they feel guilty for quietly panning the last Civic) and t…

Going After the Kids By Scott Oldham Date posted: 09-22-2005 As usual, it comes down to the numbers. Honda says there will be 81.5 million Americans between the ages of 15 and 34 by the end of the decade. That's enough iPod addicts to make Gen Y the largest consumer group ever, topping even the baby boomers. In order to take advantage of this next "age wave" Honda is taking action now. After selling 7 million Civics over 22 years, the company is shifting the Civic's U.S. market focus from baby boomers to Gen Y-ers. It even says it has designed this all-new eighth generation of the Civic specifically for that 80-plus million who are packing iPods. This qualifi…

Man, you'd think Honda would have relocated the oil filter to solve this serious problem by now. Are they ever going to do it, or will they keep shifting the blame to the dealerships? To no mechanics surprise, the CRV fires have continued to be reported on the 2005 model year CRV. Here is a description of the design change that seems to makes this model more susceptible to the fires than the old ones. "For the GEN2 CR-V, the oil filter is located in close proximity to the hottest portion of the exhaust system; in the GEN1 design the engine block separate these components. Additionally, and due primarliy to more stringent tailpipe emission standrads, the GEN2…

There could be some competition for the Chrysler Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid. Speaking with Wards Auto, Honda's lead r&d engineer Tom Sladek hinted that Odyssey minivan could be getting a hybrid powertrain. “The electrification initiative is definitely coming, but on which products and which timing is not 100% clear yet,” said Sladek. “We just released the hybrid (Acura) MDX so that powertrain could be considered in the future, although we can’t comment on particular plans.” That line gives us some idea that Honda is looking at possibly using this powertrain in other vehicles. Why the Odyssey? The main reason is that both vehicles utilize the same platform …

2018 is setting up to be an interesting year. Like a rare celestial event, the two biggest players in one of the largest segments will both be releasing all new versions of their mid-size sedans. Toyota has already shown the all-new 2018 Toyota Camry earlier this year at the Detroit Auto Show, and on July 14th it is Honda's turn with the 10th Generation Accord. Earlier this month we wrote that the 2018 Honda Accord will no longer offer a V6, instead opting for two turbo-direct-injected engines in 1.5T and 2.0T configurations or a next-generation two-motor Hybrid. Three transmissions will be available depending on engine; a 10-speed automatic, a CVT,…

Sixty units of the CR-V - all them in the color Nighthawk Black Pearl - rolled off the same East Liberty assembly line where Honda associates also build the Honda Civic Sedan and the Honda Element SUV. Back in May, we reported about how The Family Sedan is on the Endangered List. At the time of that article, there were 6 sedans left that didn't have news about being canceled. That number has since dwindled to five as the news of the Nissan Maxima's pending extinction came out over the summer, leaving just the Accord, Camry, Altima, Legacy, and Charger. Today, Honda has refreshed its commitment to staying in the family sedan game with the release of the all-new 2023 Honda Accord. The new Accord is longer and sleeker, with a broad stance that builds on the latest Honda design language. The lineup has been simplified while retaining 6 trim levels that now correlate …

Can the Honda Civic be cool again? Automaker plans to spend big to attract youthful buyers By Kathy Jackson Automotive News / September 05, 2005 CHICAGO -- Honda is offering the usual goodies on the redesigned Civic - more power, a fancier stereo system and side curtain airbags. But what the automaker really wants to add to the car is youthful image. "We're trying to make Civic cool again," says Jeff Conrad, vice president for advertising and public relations at American Honda Motor Co. Inc. "The last-generation Civic was vanilla, no emotion." The four Civic models range from a hybrid to the nearly 200-hp sporty Si. The sedan an…

Ever since the S2000 was discontinued back in 2009, many people wished for Honda to do an affordable sports car. Some of those folks work for Honda. Case in point is Stephen Collins, director of Honda Australia who told CarAdvice that he would like to see something like this make a return. “We’ve said it a number of times: we really want to dial up the sportiness of our range and our brand. NSX is one part of that, Type R is another. But if anything else becomes available, we’d really be chasing that pretty hard,” said Collins. “Type R is a hot hatch and if there’s another type of sports car that becomes available to us, say if it was a convertible or something …

November 10th 2011 - Drew Dowdell CheersandGears.com The 2012 Honda CR-V was spied without camo just days before its official unveiling at the LA AutoShow. Power train rumors include a new 201 horsepower 2.5 liter 4-cylinder with 177 ft-lb of torque as a optional engine while the existing 2.4 will the base model and drop from 180 horsepower to 175. The transmission will remain a 5-speed model like the current Civic. Honda claims that its recent troubles with parts supply from a flooded Taiwan will not effect the CR-V launch as it has with the Civic. View full article

"CR-V sales have climbed 42 percent to 64,591 this year following a redesign in late 2006. " "If the current pace holds, CR-V sales may exceed 180,000 this year, he said. That would be 13 percent more than Honda had planned and a record for an SUV made by an import brand. " "CR-Vs stay on a dealer's lot an average of just 12 days, compared with 28 days for a RAV4 and 68 days for Ford's Escape, according to J.D. Power and Associates. Here's some video caught by an amateur photographer of a Honda Odyssey that burst into flames on the Long Island Expressway in New York a week ago. If you watch the video closely, the fire appears to be electrical since it starts in the cabin rather than under the hood (the headlights are on for a while). The mother and toddler that were riding in the van got out unharmed. Video Link http://www.dslreports.com/r0/download/1005...f2a/4-30-06.zip http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,16051517

Honda reportedly kills S2000 replacement, V8 program, RWD Acuras Jan 6th 2009 at 12:58PM Link to Autoblog Honda's attempt to right-size its development schedule and cope with the economic downturn apparently extends beyond the cancellation of the next NSX. According to Autocar, HoMoCo is right-sizing its plans for the next two years, and that includes rethinking the development of a range of rear-wheel-drive Acuras, a new V8, a convertible based on the CR-Z and the S2000's successor. Acura seems to be carrying the weight of the bad news, with its RWD 7-series rival, originally due out in 2015, cancelled indefinitely, along with development of a V8 engine that would a…

The enthusiasm for midsize sedans may be dwindling due to crossovers, but they are still an important segment for many automakers. The Honda Accord is a prime example as it makes up a key part of the Japanese automaker's sales. Last year, Honda moved 345,225 Accords - making 23.4 percent of Honda's 2016 sales. Today in Detroit, Honda introduced the 10th Generation Accord. Design has never been one of the Accord's strongest suits. It always sat in the middle of the design spectrum of midsize sedans which many buyers were ok with. This new one sees Honda taking some risks. Up front, there is larger grille and big bar integrating the headlights. The side profile r…

-Consumerist While it's OK for messages from top-secret government agencies to self destruct, that's not the case for car brakes. But more than 200 owners of 2008 and 2009 Accords have complained that keeping their brakes in working condition has proven to be a mission impossible. Paul's 2009 Accord is suffering from bakes breakage: I recently (March 7) bought a new 2009 Honda Accord, and after 2 days it has brake issues. I have taken it in to Honda 5 times to still have no resolution. They "deglazed" the rotors first, a few hours after I got it back, same thing. Now they claim Honda knows about the issue and is investigating the issue. I've got a brand new $…

Honda Motor Co. is carefully allocating shipments of cars to the United States because its exports there from Japan are "losing money," CFO Fumihiko Ike said. Honda won't cut off all shipments of those imported nameplates, including the Fit subcompact and the Insight and CR-Z hybrids, Ike said. But he said the company needs to minimize the impact of such shipments on its balance sheet. That means that in some cases dealers are getting fewer vehicles than they might like. ... Asked whether Honda makes any profit on Fits sent to the United States, Ike said flatly, "No." http://www.autonews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20120611/OEM01/306119947/1117/honda-u-s-imports-l…

Full article Unfortunately the percentage of North American-made parts that went into each vehicle isn't available. It does state that Honda spends over $17.5 billion with North American parts suppliers annually. Without a frame of reference that number is sort of meaningless, but it would be interesting to see how much Toyota and other manufacturers spend annually with North American suppliers. Highlights of the article: Honda operates seven vehicle assembly plants in North America -four in the US, two in Canada, and one in Mexico. Three engine manufacturing plants in North America -two in the US, one in Canada. Two transmission and gear set manufacturing plant…

Honda debuted the 2020 Honda CR-V today with a lightly refreshed exterior, but with a big announcement under the hood. This is the first time Honda will be offering the CR-V with a Hybrid Powertrain. There are some other powertrain changes as well. Starting with the Hybrid, the system is a two motor hybrid that combines electric power with gasoline propulsion from a 2.0 liter DOHC engine. This engine boasts a thermal efficiency over 40 percent, the highest of any mass-produced Honda engine. Peak total system horsepower for the Hybrid is now 212, up from 190 on the standard gasoline model. This is the same powertrain found in the Accord Hybrid. It is also the firs…

On the heels of Honda's announcement that it is canceling development of its 0 Series SUV, 0 Series Saloon, and Acura RSX EVs, Honda is expected to end production of the electric Prologue SUV at the end of this year. Initial production of the Prologue had strong sales with Honda moving 39,000 units in 2025. However, with the expiration of the $7,500 tax credit at the hands of the Trump administration, sales tumbled 76 percent. The Prologue is a joint-venture built with General Motors at GM's plant in Mexico. Honda has already slashed production of the Prologue and now expects to sell only 17,900 units for 2026. The Acura ZDX, another GM joint venture EV model wa…
