The year is 1957. You've just been promoted to Senior Adviser to the Assistant Vice Deputy General Secretary at the National Center for the Association of Institutes. Your new job requires a lot of travel and the need to impress people once you get there. Your current car is looking a bit dilapidated and isn't up to the task. Since the company is willing to pay the cost of a chauffeur, you decide a large four door luxury car is what you need. The only question is, which one? 1957 Cadillac Series 70 Eldorado 1957 Lincoln Premiere 1957 Imperial Crown 1957 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud 1957 Bentley S1 1957 Mercedes 300 1957 Jaguar Mk VIII 1957 BMW 501

The only byproduct of Hydrogen fuel cell engines is water vapor right? Well with all the recent advances in hydrogen production, wouldnt it make sense to move towards Hydrogen rather than E85 or BioDiesel... The only reason i say this is cause... 1) If everyone in large cities used hydrogen fuel cell engines, The water vapor produced from the cars and the relative lack of traditional emissions would create a sort of counter greenhouse effect. The increased water vapor in the area would reflect more light back into space, cooling the local area and of course providing more rainfall... instead of trapping in heat and causing crappy air quality. Now in places like the sout…

Hey, if anyone here wants a userbar sig like mine, Northstar's, or NOS's, I'll be happy to make you one. Just leave your request here and I'll try my best to get back with you. Just don't swamp me. Okay, I'll just need the following info from you: Any color scheme you want. (Mine is yellow and black, obviously, for obvious reasons.) If you want a custom userbar with your username and a logo (see below) to start out your sig. If so, please leave the image you want to use as your logo. If you want a [insert Make Here] Driver bar after that. Specify the make of your car. Or, instead, you could specify the model. Any other userbars you want in the sig (I.E. C&G Club…

I'm wondering who else out there (besides myself and OCCarNut) find windshield wipers, wipe pattern, and articulation a kind of "style" on a car, or do they mean absolutely nothing to you? I hate getting into a new car and it has an absolutely BORING wiper system. My new C6 is an example. My C4 I used to have had the wipers that parked in the middle and swung out to opposing ends. That just simply looked COOL. In fact, those are one of my favorite wipers......those that swing out from the center (early-gen W-bodies, GM and Chrysler minivans, new Civic, old Corvette, old 220-class Mercedes, etc.) #1 for me, though, has to be old Mercedes wipers that both parked on…

Edmunds Evaluation: Ford Expedition v. Chevy Tahoe While the 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe LT is a nice piece, with a much appreciated dashboard makeover and stout towing performance, the lack of a stowable, adult-friendly third-row seat and a higher price caused it to trail behind its arch-nemesis when the results were tallied. And even though this is an all-new truck, important subsurface chunks of it feel outdated. Yes, the unanimous judges' decision went to Ford's 2007 Expedition Limited, with its well-sorted steering and handling, controlled ride, very good towing performance and an adult-sized third-row seat that, importantly, folds flat into the floor. And with a sticke…

I spent 6 days in Las Vegas (106 to 108) every day. You walk out the door and it's like an oven. One day, walking around the strip with a friend, it started to rain from a thunderstorm. It was great. Followed by 2 days in Rancho Mirage (Palm Springs)...same thing. I will say that the mountains shooting out of the desert floor is quite dramatic but that weather just knocks you out. Now, I went to grad school somewhere reasonably cold. I remember that as being painful and that driving in snow was kind of scary. However, most really hot places have a great other 9 months and you can stay in A/C for the remainder. Which could you handle better...living somewher…

That is the question. Clicky. Depending on his reserve, I could potentially get a set for somewhat cheap (atleast compared to the cost of a single wheel). I mainly just need to consider if I would rather find an aftermarket set I like better and a pay a few hundred more. That, and MK3's happen to have the same bolt pattern and offset. With my desires to return to a VW, an aftermarket set could easily with switched to another vehicle. I'm not sure if a Jetta could rock Chevy wheels. Decisions, decisions...

Here's what I consider the top three mot important things I look for in a car. 1. RWD: If it's not RWD then AWD w/ most of the power going to the rear wheels. 2. Manual Transmission: Not a must but very strong preferance! 3. V8 or Inline-6: Short of an exotic motor like a V12 or V16 this is the only way to fly. That's it right there... RWD is most important but the other two I'll compromise on depending on the other redeming qualities of a car. Like a flat-6 Porsche motor would definately NOT turn me off to a 911, but an automatic trans. in a BMW is pretty much a deal killer. So what's the top three things you look for in a car? I left off styling because these days…

Other than the Silverado, it looks like only old and cheap (but interesting) cars will be part of the fleet for a while. I've decided to get serious about selling off the Hawk, GTO and Maserati. I need to push a bunch of things forward and freeing up money will be required. It is really going to kill me to let the GTO go as I completely love the car, but it will put a little cash in my pocket and reduce my monthly costs a bit as well as insurance. I would like to put my plan of setting up to paint my own project cars into motion sooner rather than later which entails lots of little and not so little purchases. I'm less patient than I used to be and really want to get …

What if small groups in a given locale were to form cooperatives to support small scale ethanol production from local feedstocks? Say, for example, a local car club splits the cost of running a small scale facility with paid staff and the equiptment required to produce enough fuel for all of the members on a non-profit basis? Just a thought. :AH-HA_wink: ...at least for now.

Today my M5 went in for service (to say that the dealer will be ripped a new one is an understatement but that is for later) as the 'Certified' process was never actually completed, they just threw on a set of tires and called it good. For a loaner they sent over a Titanium Silver 2009 X3 xdrive 3.0i. Nice little suv I thought - loaded with full leather interior, ultra-view sunroof, cold weather package and a few other ammenities I am not used to seeing on a service loaner. We put her through her paces today, and here are some observances: Good: The 3 liter in-line 6 is a marvel. Smooth, turbine like power and smooth shifts from the 6-speed transmission make the l…

I want to look 5 years into the future and see what treasures are sitting inside GM's walls right now. With all this speculation on engines, upcoming models, and now transmissions.. one's got to wonder. Chevy's getting a whole new face within the next year or two, Zeta will be debuting full-force, an 8-speed-automatic is in the rumor mill, Cadillac will be twice the company it is now, and GM's really cracking the whip on quality all across the board. Damn, I keep hearing new rumors and things "within the walls" and it just gets me antsy.. like that speculated 3V V8 and the "experimental 470 HP engine" found inside a CTS-V. And then with DI coming about and us hearing abou…

If you go to Wikipedia and search on "Star Trek (movie)" and scroll down, you'll see a picture of the new Enterprise bridge with Kirk (Chris Pine.....oooooo so f@#king hot) and McCoy...... I have to say.....the new bridge is SO cool, it's incredible....! Somehow, they were able to design a bridge that looks futuristic compared to today's times.....yet captures the "cheesy" spirit of the original (and I say "cheesy" in a good way.) Think "Enterprise" meets "Apple's IPod" and you'll get an idea of what it looks like. AND, Pine's "slouch" in the captain's chair seems PURE William Shatner..... I was walking down the street with a friend of mine in Toronto and this woman approached us and gave us some free passes for an advanced screening of "World Trade Center". I wasn't too keen on seeing this movie, as I was kind of worried that it would be more flag-waving sappy drivel like "Pearl Harbor" (the movie). Since my friend wanted to go, and we didn't have anything better to do, I let her convince me. I missed the very beginning (probably about 5 minutes), so I didn't get to see how they treated the actual event. However, this movie was not what I expected. This was much more a personal story about three people and how them and their families were affected that …

Ever get in one of those situations where all you can do is eat and you aren't "filling up?" So far I had an entire bag (put it in a skillet and cook it on the stovetop for like 20 minutes) of this "Garlic Chicken home skillet" stuff from the grocery store that's meant to serve two, a Little Debbie treat, a pudding cup, a bowl of oatmeal, a piece of cake, and a bowl of ice cream... Okay, so not much "nutritious" stuff, but still!

So you bolt through the Macomb Hall doors and blaze past the Ford trucks, the black Mustang GT on the stand and the black Ford GT on the stand. So after watching the Jammin Me music video, and seeing the artistic manipulation of TV static, I had to laugh about a whole generation who have never seen real static on a TV. I don't think I've seen any for years with analog TV switching to the blue screen with no signal... and now that analog TV is dead, I suppose there will never be static. How many of our younger readers have never seen it? Or never heard a real dial tone. Or will future folks who will never hear the sound of a modem handshaking. Or the GSM radio interference though speakers (Which is what I want for a ring tone). Anyone think of any others?

DETROIT - Cars were too small, sport utility vehicles too inefficient and she couldn't see herself driving a minivan. So Dr. Melissa Sundermann ended up with a type of vehicle that most automakers are banking on for sales growth: a crossover. Built on car underpinnings but having many attributes of SUVs, crossover utility vehicles have seen explosive growth since Toyota Motor Corp. started the category with the RAV4 back in 1995. In 1996, the RAV4's first full year on sale, Toyota told 56,709 of the small crossovers when it had the market to itself, according to data collected by Ward's Automotive Group. But sales rose quickly as other automakers saw the growth potenti…

Posted Jan 27th 2008 11:27AM by Jonathon Ramsey via Autoblog Wired magazine got in the queue for some face time with Bob Lutz at the Detroit Auto Show, and came back with a quote that's raised a few brows. When asked what the target market for the car would be, Lutz said "I don't know. You'd like to have it at about $30,000 for the customer, but what I'm hearing from the team is we're not going to get there.... f it costs closer to 40 than 30, well, that's too bad." The issue is the timeline. His engineering team said that if they had more time they could cost-optimize the car, but Lutz doesn't want to wait for that. As for the recent go-round about when the Volt w…

Dont know what year it was as miniminal changes were made during its lifetime, I know the front clip was refreshed, and this particular car was of the pre-refreshed front clip...but my memory eludes me to when this happened so that is why I went with 1997. We saw plenty of these multi-level parking structures during our trip to NYC this past week, and even commented on how their space efficiency would work well in our own cities where giant parking garages dominate the landscape. Perhaps we spoke too soon. Autoblog reader Mel spotted this scene just around the corner from the Jacob Javits Center where the 2009 New York Auto Show is being held. The multi-level steel parking structure evidently failed, sending a Lexus GS sliding down on top of a Land Rover and the front end of an also-raised Honda Accord. The kicker? A 1998 Chrysler Town and Country and older Camry sit just outside the frame unscathed. The Ford Edge that ju…

I definitely stole this from Autoblog but I thought it was a great little topic. I know it GREATLY varies based on the vehicle itself because a 5500lb SUV/Truck will need more power than a sub 3000lb car. With that said.. For the "average" 3000-4000lb vehicle I think I would want minimum 200-250hp as a daily. Something that can achieve nothing less than a 15.5 second quarter mile. I know that involves more than just hp but as it's been stated hp isn't everything. I will always want something a little fun even though a slow 15.5 isn't anything special it is quick enough to pass on demand, have a little fun with hard launches, and not aggravate me. As the vehicle …

I have another challenging Dream car garage to post or two...but for today the easiest one yet. Only limitation for all ten is that you must be able to walk into your state/province DMV and register it legally. First 3-New 2017 cars you would buy, less than 50 grand... Next 3-New 2017 cars you would buy, 50 grand to 125 grand... Next 3-used cars you would buy, any market any era, just must be street legal. that is it-although i would like to see different cars than we usually post up. Challenger and Raptor ahve had a lot of exposure in dream car garage, looking for whatever else you all can come up with. Last car-#10-Anything street legal on the …

GM has turned off the heat on all assembly plant floors and has shut down voice mail at all assembly plants or is in the process of doing so. Next they will be making you turn in your old pencil before they will give you a new one.

Hmm....this is interesting. My wife wants to keep her Cavalier. (people want to keep cavaliers? ) The current plan was to upgrade her car, aka the "family" car, to a nice used Liberty or Nox, and delegate her 03 to my beater 4dr, thus allowing me to have fun with the next new car. (cruze, focui, Aveo, Mazda 3, etc...) Two reasons for her logic: 1. A real vacation. Italy, Europe, someplace far and cool.... 2. To see if we decide to expand the family. There's a good chance of that, so she might want to wait until we need it to save a few bucks..... I have a slight issue with this, but not much. I guess the fact that the car is almost 7 years old might be why. T…

I'm driving home after lunch and realize that my odometer is about to roll over to an even number (you know, ending at ,000)...but it wasn't quite there. So, I didn't pull into the driveway and instead drove around the neighborhood a little more to make it get to that "magic number." I find that I've done this more than once, among other weird quirks. Do you do this kind of crap with your car? Or, do you have other weird quirks you care to share?

I went to the restroom at work today (I had just been outside, so my hands were freezing, my wang is still hiding from me) and while I was standing there doing my business, I heard a phone ring. Then I heard someone answer the phone. Curious, I looked and saw one set of feet in one of the stalls. The dude was sitting on the toilet and he answered his phone. Why? That just seems wrong and icky. I dont want to be talking to someone while they're pooping.

WILMINGTON, Del. - A sixth-grade science teacher who was accused of having sex with a 13-year-old student has been sentenced to 10 years in prison. Rachel L. Holt, 35, had pleaded guilty to second-degree rape. She sobbed in court Friday as Superior Court Judge Calvin L. Scott gave her the mandatory minimum sentence. Link: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17669656/ Sex and Alcohol? What I want to know is, where were these teachers when I was in school here? I wish someone had taken my innocence away like that!!!!!

It's already early June; yet, my older 4 MCs have not made their 2007 debut ... and I have not cleaned up the '87 MC LS by hand. Last year, the older 4 MCs didn't make their debut until mid-May ... which led to not attending any area cruise nights...hmm.... I'm not stalling because of rising gas prices. I believe the "delay" is partly (if not mostly) because of my daily drive to/from work. Since October, I've been driving 30-45 minutes each way to/from work in Schaumburg IL; this finds me "fighting" traffic ... something I absolutely strongly dislike doing ... even hate going for my checkups at Chicago's Northwestern Memorial Hospital, which I did last Thursday, May 3…

Law school is looming on the horizon, which is going to require a move. I dont want to sell my house because of the incredible amount of equity I have in it (simple numbers appraisal value when I bought it-what I bought it for=FWD Acadia SLE; market value based on what a couple of houses down the block sold for-what I bought it for=2008 CTS) and the fact that they're doing a lot of improvements on my side of town, so I'm going to rent it out then rent someplace at school. Since I doubt I'll be able to get a job with the same income I have now, I'm going to have to move a bit on the cheap side, which would be easier without the Fusion and its full coverage insurance. So…

There is a little town in North Central California that I find really quaint. That would be Chico. About 3x a year, I'll grab a rental car and go there to do...well...nothing. I'll go to B&N, Starbucks, a movie, to eat (they've got some good little restaurants)....and sleep. Any towns, lonely beaches or rural places you retreat to?

So GM will be putting IC engines on the volt. So it still periodically has to burn some gas. Nearly all our cars in this country burn gasoline. But some pundits say we should all have electric cars. So why don't we get rid of the fuel on cars and just use all the fuel we burn profusely every day in our cars, we should use that fuel to power electric power generators instead? and just plug all the cars in. Would we use more or less fuel this way?

I am smitten by the 2010 Mustang's sequential rear turn signals, but I have a question I hope some of our FoMoCo historians can answer: Which vintage Ford Motor Co. vehicles had that feature? I thought it was on the first-gen Cougars and maybe the Shelby Mustangs of the 60's... oooooooh, wait, was it on a Thunderbird as well? Help!

I've written on here how very trouble free my CTS has been over 50K miles.....and it has with the exception of just a few minor items......my car has been a true testimonial for GM's recent reliability and durability strides..... BUT.....so my car has exactly 49,500 miles on it....and I had a couple minor issues I wanted to get taken care of before the 50K mile warranty expired.... Hood windows. Jalopnik First it was the Toyota Altezza lighting the world on fire with the clear tail light craze, then came Buick, igniting the love triangle between Pep-Boys, 17-year-olds, and stick on fender vents, now it's the Corvette ZR1 and its hood window kicking off a new trend. Hillbank Motorsports has created a hood with a window in it for the 2005-2009 Ford Mustang which will let you show off that stonkin' V6 with NOS and dress up pulleys. Of course, if you're sporting a supercharged monster mill, it'll work there too, but lets be honest about who goes after this kind of thing. Expect hood windows for Civics, third generation 'Tegs, and mid-90s Accords …

Paulie's "Edmunds" Review: 1992 Buick Century When most people think of a family sedan, they think of the Toyota Camry, the Honda Accord, the Hyundai Elantra, or even a Ford Aspire, but many fail to consider Buick's Century (because we tell them not to). The Century, part of an aging design on a decrepit body, using GM's tried-and-true, super-old crappy, err, I mean OHV, 3300 engine, is just one of the offered engines in the lineup. Families trying to save a penny here or there can stick with the anemic standard 4-banger (and boy does it bang!), 110-hp engine, but most will opt for the 6. The 3300 delivers 160 mediocre horses, and 185f…

Find the man among the beans (EDIT: look for a head). Can you find the man within 3 seconds? According to medical experiments: If you can find the Man's Head within 3 seconds, your right brain is more developed than normal people. If you can find the Man's Head within 1 minute, your right brain is developed normally. If you can find the Man's Head within 1-3 mintues, your right brain is slow in reacting, you should eat more meat protein. If you can find the Man's Head in 3 minutes or more, your right brain is a disaster... extremely slow in reacting, the brain is losing it's ability to perform normally. ______________________________…

I am guilty of eating at McDonald's this evening on the way home. Some McDonald's have newspaper boxes in the drive-thru lane for breakfast customers, painted in McD's colors. Well there's no turning back now. Found myself a decent "Heritage of Ownership" medallion for a first Cadillac on eBay, and that in and of itself is the symbolic beginning of a search that will likely define this year. Mercifully my insurance didn't go up last year after the two accidents I was involved in (though neither of them were my fault in the slightest), in fact my insurance went down- substantially. I have decided that I need a little project on the side to keep me busy (and sane) and have decided to fulfill a childhood dream, killing two birds with one stone. I'm going to find myself a 94-96 Fleetwood Brougham. I'm hoping to find something within Canada b…

I had to run to Lowe's today to pick up a few things. As usual, I parked out by myself with no cars next to me. When I was finished, as I was just about to hit the trunk unlock button, I realized I left my list and pen by the self-checkout register, so I turned my cart around and went back inside with my purchases still in the cart. I retrieved my forgotten stuff and wheeled my cart back out to the car. It is breezy here today. As I approached my car, I noticed an '02 Durango parked next to me. At that moment, a kid of about 7 years old opened the rear door of the Dodge, the wind caught it, and it slammed into the driver's door of my car, right in the center, just b…

I wasn't even on the road! I was backing the Sunfire out of the driveway, the HHR was to my left and the van was behind me. I was concentrating on not stalling (because I do that too much) and cut left too soon and my left front fender ran into the HHR's rear bumper. So the HHR's bumper only has some scuffs but my Sunny's fender is all caved in. Do I know how to start the year off with a bang or what!

Now that I have a decent car, I've been more attentive to the process of cleaning and waxing. What are some of your favorite brands of wax and protective products that you use? Does anybody do clay bar on their paint? I have heard Turtle Wax Ice is a pretty good cleaning solution that comes close to clay bar as far as shine and removal of contaminants but does it in 1/4 of the time. Since I live in a winter climate, I'm looking for something I can apply this fall that will help protect the paint before the snow starts flying. My paint is in very good condition overall, but the paint of the front bumper is starting to show its age a little.

So if anybody has anything good to say about this incredibly attractive woman, I mean, come on, I'm salivating over these pictures. Anyways, I know she doesn't always look her best, and it has to do with how she stands, her posture, but these pictures are freakin' phenomonal. Again, only positive things please. Thanks.
