1) Please use office talk. Talk that you would not use around the office, or infront of your boss for that matter, please do not use here on C&G
2) No political talk. There are plenty of forums on the 'net for that. Lets keep C&G free of political talk.

OK, as the title: If GM is to start another business, division, group, whatever you call it, what would this be? For me it would be a official modding company. Provide original SS, GXP, V, T-Type, Alpha performance and appeareance modifications while maintaining factory warranty. A bit different from RKSport (don't know if this is owned by GM though), where they only sell parts. My idea is a one stop shop to sell the parts AND provide service like installation.

For me: August 1988, Holsopple PA 1979 Blazer (2-tone red/white) While I was visiting my Aunt Thelma and Uncle Glen for a couple weeks, my Uncle Glen (who died 10 years later, the day the loan for my 1976 Monte Carlo was approved) took me with to do some errands. On the way back, instead of pulling into their driveway, he turned into the grassy field across the street, parked the Blazer and asked me if I wanted to drive. Naturally, I did. After that, my parents allowed me to move their '81 MC SC (now mine) out of the garage whenever we took that car. Cort | 36.m.IL | 5 Monte Carlos.1 …

I immediately got into a weigh station (lucky it was right there) and shut down. Thankfully my brother had trailered his 73 to the same show and we unloaded it and put my car on the trailer. He then let me drive his car to my place (with only 100 miles on the new engine) while he followed me. The next day Tammy (my wife), our 2 kids (7 and 11), and I pulled the engine out and tore it down. The front two piston rods were completely drive at the main bearings. In fact number 2 had no main…

After 45 minutes or so, I leave. As I walk to my car. I look towards the road in the distance, it sounds like something is going on. I thought I heard girls screaming. (Reuters) - Hostess Brands Inc, the bankrupt maker of Twinkies and Wonder Bread, has sought a U.S. court's permission to go out of business after failing to get wage and benefit cuts from thousands of its striking bakery workers. Hostess, which has about $2.5 billion in sales from a long list of snack cakes and breads, filed the request with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in New York early Friday morning. The Irving, Texas-based company said the liquidation would mean that most of its 18,500 employees would lose their jobs. (I took the Florida car to beautiful Pensacola and back). I've also rented about 10 other Grand Prixs, putting at least 700 miles on each one. When added up, it occurred to me I've exceeded 10,000 miles in rented Grand Prixs. Heck, getting into one and knowing all about them is so reflexive, that if I were to buy one it would be a "non-event." What types of rental "sleds" do you seem to get into most often?

  33. Attention parents: It's not your kids that are making you go gray. Your hair is simply building up too much hydrogen peroxide. Bottle-blondes may be a fan, but hydrogen peroxide, which is produced naturally in the human body, interferes with melanin, the pigment that colors our hair and skin. The body also produces the enzyme catalase, which breaks down hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen. Or at least it does for a while. As we age, catalase production tails off, leaving nothing to transform the hydrogen peroxide into chemicals the body can release. So, as hydrogen peroxide builds up, we go gray, concluded researchers at the University of Bradford in the United …

  73. It's finally come around, not just that I've pondered doing it, but that I'm selling the Fleetwood and moving on to something newer, much smaller, more efficient, etc. For the longest time (and to keep the finances smiling), the idea was something new but used (and quite a bit so) that fulfilled the smaller and more economical but that could be another cash purchase. Think late 90's Accord, and you'll have gotten the drift. Then that went, well, sort of to the side. I graduated college and while not yet making huge money yet or in a dream job, I'm working with a great company at home for the time being and am making a nice chunk. I love the Fleetwood dearly and it …

We've done religion, height/weight, age, ethnicity...why not this? You can only pick one. However, you can define what you think these concepts mean. I once heard: "When you're younger, if you're not liberal, you don't have a heart. When you're older, if you're not conservative, you don't have a head." Also, this has NOTHING to do with party affiliation. Liberal/conservative does NOT necessarily align itself with political leanings. I picked conservative....you know, a Regal with crank windows and 247,000 miles.

On October 1, the Pentagon, for the first time ever, dedicated an Army force specifically to NorthCom, which is in charge of securing not some foreign region but the United States of America. The Pentagon’s decision to dedicate the First Brigade Combat Team to NorthCom has raised alarms, especially in the context of the current economic crisis. In Bush’s National Security Presidential Directive 51, he lays out his authority in the event of a catastrophic emergency. In such an emergency, “the President shall lead the activities of the Federal Government for ensuring constitutional government” and will coordinate with state, local, and tribal governments, along with priva…

  76. Been a while since we did one of these. A lot of great vehicles had their last hurrah for the 2018 Model Year. From mainstream offerings, to exotics, many models had their demise. This thread will be dedicated to those. You can choose either cars that were discontinued entirely, had specific trim levels axed, or lost body styles. Rules- 1) Must be 2018 MY 2) Choices must be offered in your market 3) Production vehicles only 4) Choices must have been discontinued, replaced with new model, had a body style dropped, etc 5) Maximum of 5 choices 6) These are your only vehicles Have fun!

  79. I don't see many of these anymore. Most are in the car graveyard in the sky somewhere. Or, hopefully, recycled. This is an Olds Silhouette minivan from GM's first whack at minivans ... the ones with the long snout. In reviews I've read of these, it said driving one seemed like you were driving them from the back seat! I'm guessing early '90s. It's in incredible condition - the body, the hardware, an original paint color, and it's badged to have a 3800, probably a Series I. No wonder it has been around for so long. Of the GM minivans, I'd give the nod to the Olds Silhouette, followed by the Pontiac Trans Sport, and then the Chevy Venture…

  80. I guess the first question should be: Do you listen to radio much anymore? With the advent of CDs, satellite radio, iPODS, etc., virtually everyone can create their very own radio station, personalized with no commercials. This means that the "basic" radio stations, especially those that have to air a lot of commercials, are losing listeners. For me, one who loves radio, that is kind of sad...especially since it is kinda cool to hear an older song on the radio that brings back memories, even if the whole world has forgotten. Yeah, it's cool to hear it on the iPOD, too, but when you hear it on the radio, you KNOW you aren't the only one hearing it at that given tim…

Considering that reverse barely works, I have no plow lights, and there are no coner markers on the plow, Things have gone ok so far. Took an illegal run over to my family's neighborhood to get the first layer off, and I've done this place several times. At the moment we have fairly heavy snow coming down and it is blowing and drifting. Have probably had between 6-8" so far (hard to tell with all of the blowing. Fun,fun, fun. I have a few more hours until the ROPOS turns into a pumpkin due to the lack of plow lights. I'll wait a bit, take care of the dogs, make a Wawa run, and then plow until dark. The morning could be a real challenge, since I can't attack the snow af…

After seeing the New York Monte Carlo Club in action at their August gathering (Spiedie Fest, Binghamton NY) during my Nor'Easter Trek road trip, I'm not willing to "give up" on Chicagoland events. It seems, sometimes, that when we get together, people say, "We should do this more often" ... but that rarely happens. Perhaps it is time we make "more often" happen. After all, getting together with people IS the POINT.... While the MidSummer Chitown Gathering is done after 3 years due to fast-dwindling attendance (65 in 2008, 20 in 2009, 16 in 2010), let's try something different. Wow, I was just sitting here thinking. The last time I was car payment-free was for a few months in 1998. I had my '94 S-10 paid off for a few months before I bought my first '98 Bug. Once in a while I get a wild hair and think of dumping my newer vehicle and buying something I could just purchase outright... no payments. That's $324 per month, plus the savings in changing unsurance coverages, that could be used for something else. But, there are so many cool new toys out there now. Such is life, I guess, when you're obsessed with vehicles like I am. They make me irrational! Does anyone else here feel the same?

I set up a toggle switch in my car that is wired up from the fuse box feed to the brake lights where I tied in to it so I can flash my brake lights without actually stopping. Normal brake lights are fully operational as well but I think it is a very good feature and its works. The other day someguy was too close to me so i flicked it on and back he went. Also next I was thinking about wiring up a toggle switch with reverse lights to scare someone at a traffic light just flick it on. Any thoughts about my invention???

We had the Engineering Employment EXPO over the past three days here at U of I, and I talked to several different companies. The only three automotive companies that were there though were Honda, Toyota, and Ford. I talked to all three, but Honda said they don't hire anyone who doesn't have at least a status of sophomore, and Ford said it was hard to get a job as a freshman. Toyota, however, seemed to be pretty interested in anyone who wanted to go into the Automotive field. GM didn't come for some reason (even though their website said they were coming) so obviously I didn't get to talk to anyone from GM. I also talked to Cummins (seemed somewhat interested), Caterpill…

Although they look like they might be some sort of "marital aid", these are actually sterling silver salt and pepper shakers that came down through my dad's side of the family. I did a little research and discovered that they were made between 1920 and 1930 in NYC by P.H. Locklin & Sons. The puzzling thing is the monogram - it appears to be a "G". I can't find anyone on that side of the family with a "G" name. The pics aren't so great, but does anyone see some other letter in the monogram?

  98. Interesting article here about commercial vans being the next "big thing" in the marketplace. Can't say that we haven't already discussed this topic here, but in the article there's an interesting picture that has caught my attention. Ford will be bringing over the larger Transit to replace the Econoline model, and if it came directly as this: I think I'd be tempted to change over to Ford for my next family hauler and give the wife what she wants (a minivan). Can't wait to see where this new market goes!!
