I'm a huge GM fan. They have showed brillance beyond compare and yet have made some of the dumbest decisions in automobile history. And they have been hugely successful in so many ways...like being number one a lot of years. Many stunning, many dreadful cars and a slew of marketing schemes later, there has been but one shining star in their orbit. Corvette. Clear visionary, purposeful, consistant, ever improving Corvette. Some close calls for sure and a couple of iffy years, but they stuck with the plan. Now, I say, take the Corvette team and put them in charge of GM and change the name of General Motors Corporation to Corvette Corporation. Because no matte…

OMG ITZ TOTALLY GONNA LOOK PIMPA@@ ALL YELLO +25HP!!11 Nah, just kidding. Actually, I'm going for the silver look. Some of you my remember us painting the calipers on my father's Bonneville red... We finished doing his rear calipers red and now its time for mine. I'm going for an elegant silver look to match the general shade of the car. Before... And after... Its now 1:03PM and I'm all done, just to give you an idea on how long this takes, including setup and cleanup. Approx. 1:30.

I've recently started a new job (about a month ago) working for the same company but in a new city. This weekend went to hang out with some co-workers at the bar and since we had Thursday and Friday off for the 4th, we were there Wednesday night. One of the girls there I had met before a last winter at the company holiday party when I was in Des Moines, and we started talking and things were starting to click. I went golfing with her and two other co-workers the next morning and since we were in the same cart, we started talking about a lot of things and I found out she is 31 and was married at 21 and divorced at 25. I'm only 24, so I was a little bit surprised she…

The dinner guests were sitting around the table discussing life. One man, a CEO, decided to explain the problem with education. He argued,"What's a kid going to learn from someone who decided his best option in life was to become a teacher?" To stress his point he said to another guest; "You're a teacher, Bonnie. Be honest. What do you make?" Teacher Bonnie, who had a reputation for honesty and frankness replied, "You want to know what I make? (She paused for a second, then began...) "Well, I make kids work harder than they ever thought they could. I make a C+ feel like the Congressional Medal of Honor winner. I make kids sit through 40 minutes of class time when the…

In renting small cars overseas, it seems that the French have more mainstream automakers than many European countries. At any rate, the 3 brands I see in rental fleets tend to be Renault, Peugeot, and Citroen. I have driven the Peugeot 107 or 108 (about a decade ago) and, more recently, the Citroen C3. I have a cousin who had a Renault Twingo about 15 to 20 years ago and they still exist, although they've been updated with time. Is there a pecking order as to which French auto brand is better than the other?

CARFAX has been hunting down & suing forums and individuals that allow this kind of misuse of their services. Posting a thread like inquiring about someone using their CARFAX for you, especially if someone then looks up the info & posts it back, puts Cheers & Gears at risk for lawsuit. It is for this reason that we request that members do not post such threads. CARFAX may seem like a ripoff for looking up one VIN, however a lawsuit would be far more expensive in the long run. Thank you for understanding. -C&G Staff

I stumbled over this nice Wiki chart of top sales figures in the US since 1899. It's amazing how nobody was able to touch Ford between 1911 and 1926, and then the 1927 Chevy came in and swooped up top sales and Chevy's first million units in a year. It seems Chevy and Ford duked it out for the top spot between the Great Depression and about 1971, then Chevy entered a first place winning streak until Ford barely edged above in 1988. In 1990, Ford regained first place for another 10 consecutive years. What amazes me is that Pontiac was GM's best selling brand in 2000. Anybody have any idea how this might have happened? I can't think of any major Pontiac debuts in 2000…

Two weeks ago just after I installed the Volvo radiator in my Datsun but before I had a chance to install a cooling fan we had a Blizzard over the weekend. So natrually, clutch fan or not I decided to have some RWD fun in the Datsun. I suck and by no means is this a representation of my drifting ability. We just kept driving from one parking lot to the next and had some jouvenile fun. Try doing this in a Scion, Integra or Civic. ------ First we went to the Pheasnat Lane Mall, a Security Guard asks us to move the fun somewhere else but is super nice about it. He made it sound like the video recording on Mall property was a bigger deal than the donuts in the snow. Most o…

First Day Of Fishing By BV All across the beautiful state of Pennsylvania, people came out on April 15 to celebrate the first day of fishing. Obviously that meant reveilling their homosexuality, but it also meant they had to get ready for this wonderous day. Here, I and my alter-ego... which means just that, BV, will help get you ready... from preparing yourself to finding your spot. After that, I might fill you in on the fishing part, too. First off, you must find a spot to go fishing. You don't want someplace that will attract crowds... You never know what bodily fluids may be floating around in the water. You don't want no gang-bangs. Unless you like that, stay aw…

I swear that I can see a UFO right now. My mom, sister, and I have been watching the East sky for about a half hour now and there is a bright light up there, it looks like a star. Well, occassionally it hops back and forth. It's between two trees by where we live, and it's gone over and above the tree to the right now. We see a green and red light flicker around it, and like I said, we can sometimes see it literally blink then jump spots. Seriously, go look and confirm this for yourself!

I always have wondered there are folks out there just buying a car because they like/need the car but others have a very different way of looking at it. I am one of those who have a very different way of looking at it. I will start off I drive GM because of the dealership I have that I actually like to deal with. I drive GM because I believe in supporting American compaines. I drive GM becuase I have always had for the most part good luck with there products. I drive GM because they offer a wide variety of products always haveing something that I like and fits my needs and budget. I have driven other cars but always keep coming back to GM because of what they offer, and t…

About one month ago, this was my driveway: Since then, the Cobalt was deemed a total loss, my brother's friend no longer practically lives with us (the Grand Prix in the pic), I bought that Olds, and now today, I sold the Millenia for paltry $200. Someone got a pretty good deal if they do all the work it needs. A few random other car related things... My brother hit a deer with his Alero. My Mom is officially looking for a Sunfire replacement. She'd like to find something with low mileage that's newer and fuel efficient. We did find an 02 Cavalier with 50k for $3k, but the seller never contacted us back, so I figure it's sold. Also found a 99 Cutlass with 47k for …

There are things we all love doing that are car-related. I really enjoy washing my car an, given the time, I like changing my own oil. There are a couple of things I really dont like to do. One is vacuum the interior. I like keeping my car clean but I hate doing this which sucks because I have black everything and any bit of dirt shows. Another interior related thing I dislike is cleaning up from the night before. If the night before was a bad one, chances are there is blood or vomit in the back seat. If the night before was good, possibly some other fluids. Either way there are probably handprints and fingerprints all over the windows. But my absolute least favo…

Hey I saw this odd FORD truck thing in the local cemetery and wondered if anyone knew what it was. My boyfriend said it was one of the first SUVS that was made...but he's no expert. And as a side note, I am very happy to get a replacement H for my hood! A nice guy with a del Sol had an extra one because he shaved all of his off. People with del Sols are automatically friends with other people that have del Sols. It's like some kind of secret club. Other del Sol drivers honk at me when they see my car and are always more than willing to help with anything or talk about cars. It's really neat, and that doesn't happen with a lot of things, so I feel lucky I reeeee…

It's amazing how fast things can change in the span of three days. On Tuesday, I was: knee deep in a project for work with what seemed like very little light at the end of the tunnel; the announcement that my company might need to have another round of layoffs this summer due to lack of incoming work; my stocks were getting hammered beyond belief; I was at 45 hours of work for the week even though it was only a Tuesday. Today: the project went out without a hitch and is probably the most complete drawing set issued of the projects I have been a part of; my company won a project that is twice as big as our largest project we have done to date, laying all employment con…

This is the 2nd of 3 July 4th themed UDG threads I had planned. Just wasn't able to get them all up before the 4th. Since we won our independence from the British, it seems fitting that we have a Dream Garage dedicated to our tyrant turned ally. In matching our American one, this one will allow 10 choices. Rules- 1) British makes ONLY. 2) Any era is allowed. 3) You are allowed ONE concept/one-off choice. 4) You are also allowed ONE racecar/non-street legal choice. 5) You MUST have at least ONE off-road/SUV choice. 6) Maximum of 10 vehicles. That's it, enjoy!!

Tim Flannery's radical climate change 'solution' Link: http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,23724412-2,00.html Mankind "pump sulphur into atmosphere to survive" Measure may change colour of the sky "Would deflect sun's rays, slow global warming" SCIENTIST Tim Flannery has proposed a radical solution to climate change which may change the colour of the sky. But he says it may be necessary, as the "last barrier to climate collapse." Professor Flannery says climate change is happening so quickly that mankind may need to pump sulphur into the atmosphere to survive. I don't know if anyone else does this, but I'm pretty observant when watching movies...especially when it comes to filming locations. Tonight I was watching Halloween I. The movie is supposed to take place in a fictional town called Haddonfield, Illinois. Yet two scenes are shot at different schools, both the open-air type you see in places like California where there is a mild climate. That would never fly in Illinois during the middle of the winter. Second, in the scene where the doctor is headed to Haddonfield, you can see these gigantic mountains in the background. News flash: Illinois doesn't have mountains! Same thing with Stephen King's "The Stand." There …

I found a 67 or 68 Eldorado, gold in colour, east of my town and I really want it. It is in need of desperate restoration but the body and paint and still alright. I felt sorry for it because it is buried in a snowbank made by a snow plow in a lot with 2 or 3 Corvettes, 86 and 87 Corvettes. It is right beside a shop and I need to know whether parts for these are hard to come by. I know parts cars probably are. Also, are these reliable enough to make the trip to Woodward. I will update next time I find out some info.

He's trading up from a 2002 SL2 with 34,5xx miles worth about $6,000 trade-in on KBB. I know Saturn is advertising a... Some questions since I've never physically purchased a Saturn nor dealt with leases myself: 1) Would a large up front amount positively affect the montly lease payments, i.e. $5,000 vs $2669? 2) Think a Saturn retailer has some wiggle room for a demonstrator XR (I know they have one) or a more well-equipped XE ($22-23k) to work it down to ~$200/mo? Any other lease/Saturn-specific advice would similarly rock. I really sold him on liking the car, so this is just the next step. Thanks!

Well, I finally found what I’ve been looking for, in my price range. This past Saturday I picked up a 2016 Lincoln MKC. 37,460 miles, $21,000, 2.3T engine with AWD. Upgraded real leather seats in dark brown and cream that I absolutely love. It had auto-high beams that I was skeptical about how well they flip off then back on and they’re surprisingly fantastic. As soon as any headlights show up in front of my they flip off, be it just over a hill or a mile ahead of me. Neat. Classic Ford, I already have to hit up my local dealership because the exterior thermostat is reading waaaay off(like -35F) therefor also throwing off the temp thst throws out the HVAC. It’s stil…

So my brother was on his way to school and someone ran a stop sign. The Maxx is likely totaled, and an estimate of $10-11K is probably what it is worth. We don't get the official word until Monday, however. So, what newer (preferably 2006 or newer) are available in the $10-12K price range? We have also looked at possibly just giving my brother my mom's Trailblazer and using the money from the Maxx to buy her a new car; we went test driving quite a few cars yesterday. Anyone have any ideas here? He doesn't want a truck or SUV unless he's forced to take the Trailblazer.

Today was a beautiful day so I decided to take the LS out for a drive and stopped around at the local lots. I saw my first new Taurus, a couple '10 Mustangs, and the new Equinox. What really surprised me was the lot traffic. The Ford-Hyundai-BMW dealership was packed with people; there were at least 6 driving around in cars and another 4 or 5 walking the lot. Most people seemed to be checking out the Ford side, although there were a couple over in the Hyundai area. Then I went to the Lincoln-Mercury dealership and nobody was there. Drove down the street to the Chevrolet dealership and only a couple people...same with the Nissan one next door. Then I drove north to…

I am starting to nitpick my truck, which usually means another new vehicle purchase is only a few months away. It won't be 2 years old until January 23rd and it has 27k miles. In heavy rains, it leaks. The headliner gets wet at the top of the driver's A-pillar. Also, it suddenly has a bunch of rattles in the doors and underneath. And I fear I am hearing the wear indicator on the front brake pads already. It's going in on Tuesday for a free promotional oil change and a brake inspection. I don't want to sound petty, I mean the truck runs fine, and starts with barely a flick of the key. It does have a couple very minor scuffs from people carelessl…

They started the surgery at 6 AM, and it continued until 10 AM when they wheeled me out in a wheelchair. All I can say is thank God we arrived in the NOX, as I would not have been able to get into the Grand Prix GXP as it sits to low to the ground. I should be back up to full speed by Friday. 1955 Olds Eighty-Eight Holiday - $8900 (a bit too much, IMO) 1963 Imperial Crown Coupe - $2450 1965 Fleetwood w/35,000 - $7995 1967 Buick LeSabre - $2450 The Buick was the value of the group it seemed. You could tell the Imperial was a Chrysler (bad weatherstripping) and all the awesome electronic gizmos like the push-button transmission scare me on a car this old. In contrast, the Buick had a regular bench, manual windows, manual locks, but air conditioning. Even had the little tissue box holder. I really, really love the LeSabre and the price is quite nice. Just wanted to share.

I used to get them for my birthday or Christmas every year as a child, and they were well-played with toys! I lost interest for a brief period in the mid-'80s but started up my collection again in '89 (kept new in box, batteries used elsewhere). Started buying one for my step-son in '96 in addition to the one for my co…

I am thinking of... sending out some emails to a few local Chevy dealers asking for a price on a truck. I'm thinking the best thing to do is take rebates and any talk of trade-in out of the equation, because by the time the truck is built and delivered, those aspects will likely vary. That will keep the playing field level. So here it is: 2010 Colorado 1LT regular cab 4X4 3.7L I5 automatic G80 locking rear power/convenience package trailering package full-size spare tire Steel Green Metallic. I am debating the interior color. I really would like to have tan, but I am concerned about it showing dirt. Does anyone know if GM is still spraying StainGuard on thei…

This has been around a while, so it may have been posted before... but I think they've added to their work, and some of it is pretty interesting. Its not my thing, as I'm sure I could not actually drive these little things, but at least they are good for a laugh. I can't help but wonder if GM could do something like this for a retro Microvan... or Micro-SUV... Clever how the bowtie is reversed... I can't believe they copied the '68-'72 Chevy trucks... And some Dodge lovin'... website: www.blow-net.co.jp

MOSCOW, Idaho - A 22-year-old carnival worker blames two friends having sexual intercourse in the back seat of his SUV for an accident in which his Chevrolet S-10 Blazer struck a telephone pole. Joshua D. Frank, who is living in a trailer parked on the Latah County Fairgrounds, pleaded guilty Monday to a misdemeanor charge of failing to notify a police officer of a traffic accident. That's after he left the vehicle at the site of the mishap. He was fined $188. Frank told Moscow Police Department officers that he was driving the vehicle near downtown early Saturday while a man and woman were having sex in the rear of the vehicle. According to a probable cause affidavi…

Well, looks like I'm the first person on C&G 3.0 to breech the 10,000 post mark, so horray me. What makes it interesting to me is that several members are hot on my tail with posts in the 7, 8, and 9,000s. Also, keep in mind these number are somewhat skewed by the fact that this version of C&G has only been up for part of our near-6-year history - let's hope we don't have to start over again! Another thing that stands out to me are our relatively 'small' membership numbers, close to 4,000 now. Again, those numbers are skewed because of database crashes, but it seems like if you register for an account here, you intend to post. And chances are that if you post, yo…

I want to do this sometime in the next few years. It seems like so much fun... almost as much retarded stupidity as the Demolition derby. I've been interested in the Flugtag for a while but a commercial the otehr day piqued my interest and I finaly checked ot the website. http://www.redbullflugtagusa.com/ Also check out the game they have on the website, my personal best so far is 99.743. I keep getting 80s and 70s now and can NOT seem to break the 3-digit mark. http://www.redbullflugtagusa.com/Game/

I have been going on line looking for rental cars and when you get a decent price for a rental then they show you what the junk charges are. For example I pulled up a weekly rental on a full size car at $163.00 at the airport in Ft. Lauderdale, and lo and behold, there are about $75.00 worth of absolute bogus junk charges that they try adding on top of that. This is nonsense. Where can you look for a rental at an honest price without all the crap fees? I wil be looking to rent again on August 12-19th.

I'm kinda thinking about it. It's an 06 LS Coupe, with 30k on it... It's quite rough on the outside (I'm detailing it now) with quite a few scratches, dents....a bit rough on the inside, but I'm making it look pretty decent.... It's been in an accident-though it was a light one- and inpected by both myself and my dad ( car is in family) Even though it looks rough on the outside, the Eco is in good shape (almost all highway miles) and the rest underneath is good too..... and I could probably pick up between 5-7 grand...... Even though it's a coupe (really don't need another one), it would make a good replacement for the wagon, and can be paid off fairly quic…

I've kinda sorta kept up with the new car market and sadly, I'm seeing nary a thing that appeals to me. Everything seems to have gotten fat, heavy and grotesque-looking. Another symptom of my old-guyness, I suppose. Anyhoo, this has made me think about what an ideal vehicle would be for my weird tastes. Here's what I came up with: Something on the order of the original Caravan/Voyager in a (compact) external footprint AND internal dimensions--including height and seating position (the Mazda 5 was heralded as the successor to the original Mopar minivans, but it really wasn't--didn't have the height to stash taller items in the back for one thing, and the seating position…

Me, the wife & kids got in the AURA yesterday around 2:15 PM and decided to head-up to NYC. We usually go before Christmas every year and typically for the whole day, but as we're getting older and have more to do, we're finding it harder to make the time to get there before the holidays. A very long 3 hours later (normally a 1.5 hour trip - too much traffic on the NJ Turnpike, a 40-minute wait to get into the Lincoln Tunnel, and traffic backups on all NYC streets should have made me turn around!), we're parking the car and walking around Times Square, Rockefeller Center, and on Fifth Avenue (a stop at the World of Disney NYC was a must). We ate at Planet Hollywood…

Four Catholic men and a Catholic woman were having coffee. The first Catholic man tells his friends, "My son is a priest, when he walks into a room, everyone calls him 'Father'." The second Catholic man chirps, "My son is a Bishop. When he walks into a room people call him 'Your Grace'." The third Catholic gent says, "My son is a Cardinal. When he enters a room everyone says 'Your Eminence'." The fourth Catholic man then says, "My son is the Pope. When he walks into a room people call him 'Your Holiness'." Since the lone Catholic woman was sipping her coffee in silence, the four men give her a subtle, "Well....?" She proudly replies, "I have a daughter, slim, …

Okay, so I'm new (and quickly becoming addicted) to buying stuff on eBay. The latest auction I've become interested in is a BuyItNow () auction with the option of Best Offer (). I plan on making an offer, rather than resorting to paying the BuyItNow price. On the Submit Best Offer page, it says “Make this offer your Best Offer. You can only make 1 offer on this item.”. My question is, if my offer is declined...that's it? I can't counter-offer with a higher amount? If that's the case, anyone have any advice on how low the seller might be willing to go? I mean, why make the Best Offer option available if you aren't willing to sell at a lower price? TIA -Bim…

Okay, I'm working my ASS off today at work and check my phone to see what time it is... Well it shows that I have a text, so I read it and it says this: The police are looking 4 a suspect described as sexy, funny & great in bed. Your ugly ass is safe but where should i hide? And I just died laughing. Imagine getting that exact message when you're in the middle of working harder at work than you have in the last 4+ months! :rotflmao:

I've been feeling kind of apathetic lately. My job is "just there." I live for the weekend when I can sleep in and then go out and do stuff or take a day trip. Right now, my trip to 2-week trip to Europe in early July is keeping me going. Why this sentiment? -Recession seems too prolonged -Friends have lost jobs and/or getting weirder with their own problems -Lost some money in my 401 that was in WAMU (not a lot, but still) - that bank has been a "staple," is at every major intersection, and made me my townhome loan in a Seattle suburb -Chrysler bankruptcy -Pontiac elimination -GM uncertainty Does it all seem like TOO much? How are you holding up?

It's a Loooooong story but in a nutshell I have a 1970 Cadillac Coupe Deville sitting on my front lawn right now. As well as two 80s AMCs. A red SX/4 and poop-brown Concord Station wagon parts car. The Coupe Deville has a VERY interesting history involving a funeral parlor, deceased owner and how it was driven for only 7 miles when new and then it sat in a garage for over two decades. Now it has (supposedly) only 29K original miles and yet New England winters have pretty much made it a parts car. There's enough rust on it to plug the hole in the Titanic. Still, just haivng a 1970 Cadillac on your front lawn is cool. I love starring at it. Now I have TWO 2-doo…

Well, a couple weeks ago there wasn't much work to do at work, so I got off early a couple days... as a result, I decided to detail the Goat, which was a bit dirty. In all, it took about 6 hours if I remember correctly, and I didn't even touch the interior. Washed it, clayed it, washed it again, and then waxed it with some great 3M wax (some of the best out there). After waxing the body, I waxed the wheels and shined the tires. The results:

The Lumina was broken into today while parked in the parking garage near where I work. It happened sometime between 7:30 AM and noon. The asshole punched the driver's side lock in with a tool, unlocked the car, and then ripped my stereo out and left. The dash was damaged slightly and I'm not sure if they will be able to repair the lock on the door since the sheet metal was punched in pretty deep. Luckily nothing else was taken...I had a fold-out chair in the backseat, some CD's under my seat, and a set of golf clubs and a $40 battery charger in my trunk. The stereo was a $300 Alpine and has almost as much value as my car. I'm pretty bummed right now...luckily my in…

...to get something to eat, and this grey-haired,Benz driving, back-up-before-looking, old bat damn near nails the front fender. If I hadn't reacted really fast it would have been ugly. As it was, I took a few seconds to stare into her mirror and use every expletive I could think of, remembering to mouth each one carefully in case she could read lips. What the hell is wrong with people that the simple concept of looking where you intend to back-up before doing so escapes them?

Well fly, I'm right on your heals. Woke up Saturday to my car alarm remote beaping at me. It was really windy when I woke up so I figured that the wind had just rocked the car enough to set the preshock on the alarm off, so I just got into the shower to get ready for work and ignored it. I got out of my apartment a little after 9 and when I got down to my car I did a quick walk around just to make sure. Sure enough, someone had backed into my Impala. Right on the corner of the back bumper on the drivers side. No note either. Not a huge smack I guess, but I'm going to need a new lower bumper cover and paint. It is getting a little wierd though. Since I got that ca…
