"Please give me a lobotomy, I'll buy a Camry for its superior fuel economy" ------ Okay, so GM is taking a thrashing in the media, all I hear is how much they suck... and yet a few days ago I was in traffic in the M.B., at a red light, nex to a mid-90s MR2 turbo. Made me think. Toyota, the 'Chosen One' the Holy Grail of automotive answers to questions most people have never asked, the mcanufacturer that for some reason gets pro-bono filatio from 92% of all "media" in and out of the Automotive Journalism field... let's recap what exactly they have been doing with themselves in the past decade. The gross MR-Spyder replaced the MR2 and …

Driving the Prototype of the EV Three-Wheeler Wearing a black jacket, she could be a cop, alerted by nosy neighbors to the funny-looking vehicle tearing around the suburban streets. She certainly is staring at us intensely as we pilot the bright-white three-wheeled craft down the street, gingerly depressing the brake pedal to make sure we're under the 30-mph speed limit. Then we're around the corner, she disappears from our rearview mirror and we hit the accelerator. That's the beauty of the 2010 Aptera 2e electric vehicle — you can speed away from the scene and the cops won't know it, with just a quiet hum as the electric motor winds up and a feeling of satisf…

Someone sent this to me in an email, and I have to say that this plane is hot: Photos of The First F/A-22 Delivered to Langley AFB These are photos of the F/A-22 (Raptor) as the first aircraft delivery was being made to Langley AFB in VA. Langley is to be first operational AFB for the F/A-22. The Aircraft flying along with the F/A-22 in several of these photos is the F-15D, which will be replaced by the F/A-22 since testing by the USAF has verified predictions that the F/A-22 would be several times better than the F-15. In actual in-flight (simulated combat) operations against the F-15, one F/A-22 was able to operate without detection while it went head t…

...too short. We are NOT guaranteed a "next time" to take action, meet, gather, talk, or say what is on our mind or how we feel. Just sayin'. I've been scarce 'round these parts and probably will be for a while because life happens. Along with other issues, I finally received the results of my CT scan of the chest. My aorta is, indeed, enlarged. So, the next step is to see the surgeon ASAP to discuss surgery options; I've had 3 previous open heart surgeries. While I still haven't really processed this news myself, I suppose the good news is that people who THINK I have a "big heart" now have proof.... Not sure what this means for my cars or my road trips, but we'l…

So there's this girl I really like, so I told my other friend and she asked her who she liked online. It was some other guy, so she told her that I liked her. She was really surprised and said that she had never thought of me that way. We are really good friends and talk all the time in school (sophomore in high school). When we talk it feels so right and it is so easy to talk to her. My other friend thought she may have liked me because she says she talks about me a lot. She said the only two guys she talks about are me and the guy she likes. I feel like crap and completely dejected. I don't know whether I should give up or if I should wait and see if she changes …

I was talking with a guy at work the other day, and it turned into a conversation on places we wouldn't mind living. Some of the highlights: (me) I wouldn't mind living in Delaware, its the state nobody ever thinks about, very incognito (him) Too many gay people for me (Seriously, he said that, he's a good guy otherwise, so I didn't rip him a new one for being homophobic like I normally do) (him) Kentucky wouldn't be that bad (me) Have you ever been to Kentucky? (him) No (me) Its like West Virginia, without the class (him) Ouch, West Virginia is known for being pretty poor (me) I almost moved back to Chicago a few years ago (him) I liked Chicago, but…

This guy comes into our dealership today to look at the Silverado 2500 that we have in the 2nd floor showroom, he's ben in before. His daily driver is a 2006 Aveo-5, stick and he's always bragging about getting about 37mpg real world... the thing is he always leaves it idiling for long periods of time while he looks at trucks, get a brochure from the showroom or whatever. Today he was in the showroom for a good 18-20 minutes while his little Aveo was left, door ajar... running with the AC full blast & the radiator fan kicking in and out constantly. Kind of funny if you ask me. Like the chian smoking Prius driver that I always see blowing nasty …

Simple questions: When/Where was the first time you drove? What did you drive? For me: August 1988, Holsopple PA 1979 Blazer (2-tone red/white) While I was visiting my Aunt Thelma and Uncle Glen for a couple weeks, my Uncle Glen (who died 10 years later, the day the loan for my 1976 Monte Carlo was approved) took me with to do some errands. On the way back, instead of pulling into their driveway, he turned into the grassy field across the street, parked the Blazer and asked me if I wanted to drive. Naturally, I did. After that, my parents allowed me to move their '81 MC SC (now mine) out of the garage whenever we took that car. Cort | 36.m.IL | 5 Monte Carlos.1 …

I have been going on line looking for rental cars and when you get a decent price for a rental then they show you what the junk charges are. For example I pulled up a weekly rental on a full size car at $163.00 at the airport in Ft. Lauderdale, and lo and behold, there are about $75.00 worth of absolute bogus junk charges that they try adding on top of that. This is nonsense. Where can you look for a rental at an honest price without all the crap fees? I wil be looking to rent again on August 12-19th.

* Hard to believe I've finished my 36 sessions of Cardiac Rehab for my 11/11/2011 open heart surgery; last session was 04/13/2012. I plan to return to the facility via their monthly fee, but I have to find a new job first. Wouldn't mind some other dreams/goals coming true, either...just sayin'. In a heartfelt gesture, Mayor Bloombeg & the City of New York paid handsome tribute to General Motors, thanking them for their $10 Million spent (plus a fleet of support vehicles) in NYC & WDC immediately after the 9/11 attacks, by purchasing 40 hybrid sedans for use as both marked & unmarked police cars. "These new patrol cars will help fulfill the PlaNYC goal of reducing City government's carbon footprint," said Mayor Bloomberg. "We want to get the most mileage out of technology where it makes sense & with the addition of these hybrids, we're doing that literally," said Police Commissioner Ray Kelly. Though the just over $1M spent on the hybrids d…

Today balthazar is happy because today my brother, a good buddy and myself reinstalled the body of my '59 back on it's beefy boxed frame!! So good to have my pride & joy back in only 1 garage bay! No problems to report, no mishaps, only 1 of the 16 bodyshell mounts requiring a bit of prying to align. All new rubber bushings & bolts/washers. Body has 2x3 steel tubing inside the rockers: much like another set of frame rails. This baby is going to be stiff! Even with no weight on it, she sure sits pretty on those 315/60-15 rears. Rear tires fill the wheelwells to perfection. Car height matches factory as it sits (57") but will drop 2 more inches I predict, once do…

I am rethinking my approach to getting a car. I think the Regal would be good but it has 350,000kms and I wouldn't trust that so would it be good to get a new motor from GM Performance Parts? I would want a 3800 Series II but at GM Performance Parts they are Supercharged. I like the idea of a supercharged Regal. Maybe a new trans or one off of another Regal. Would it be worth to do this? It has 350,000 kms on the car but it could be capable of getting more right with a new engine? If anyone knows how much a new crate motor is then please tell me. I think I may just get the Regal now before it goes to the wreckers. They only want $200 or less. WOuld this be a wise choice …

http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=3013016&page=1 Unbelievable. I wonder if they know that it was the Fuhrer himself who started VW, as the "people's car"? Ah, a car for the master race, no wonder VW's are so good. That and most Jewish people to this day will still not drive Mercedes and BMW's either, because these companies used slave laborers from the death camps. I don't even know how much of the above article is true, as it's widely known that the Germans stole Opel from GM during WWII, but were made to give it back after the war.

Have you guys heard about the mountain lion that attacked an elderly couple hiking in the Redwoods in northern California? This blew my mind since that area looks more like Oregon, damp, with tall trees and ferns. I always thought these animals hung out where it's more parched and scrubby...like the Gold Country parts of the lower Sierra. The man has gotten better but now his condition is worse. I feel really bad for him. I'm holding good thoughts for him. In fact, there was a fatal mountain lion attack in the mid-1990s on a jogger on the outskirts of Auburn, a mere 30 miles east of Sacramento where people swim and raft in the river there. LONDON - The level of violence in Iraq is "much worse" than that of Lebanon's civil war, outgoing U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan said in an interview aired Monday. Speaking to the British Broadcasting Corp., Annan agreed that the average Iraqi's life is worse now than it was under Saddam Hussein and called the situation in the country "extremely dangerous." "Given the level of violence, the level of killing and bitterness and the way that forces are arranged against each other, a few years ago, when we had the strife in Lebanon and other places, we called that a civil war; this is much worse," Annan said. Last week, when asked by reporters whether the fighting in Ir…

Here are few keys I have thought. Engine Name Introduction Date Generation Engine Type Displacement Cylinder Count Fuel Type Bore x Stroke Compression Ratio Peak Power, Torque and respective RPMS. Firing Order Horsepower, Torque vs. RPM curve CO2 emission numbers Applications in GM vehicles Dry Engine Weight Brief History While most of the figures will be handy, the most important data which will be lacking are HP, Torque curve and CO2 emissions. The idea is to have one stop shop for all of us lo…

Cheers and Gears has a policy of no political talk on the boards, but it's impossible to do the traditional review of the year's significant events without mentioning some of the actions of the federal government that so permeate the news and our lives. Those who get their delicate sensibilities easily offended are urged to skip this post and go elsewhere, such as link. That said, here are some of the things that happened in our country: The deadliest high school shooting in U.S. history occurred in Parkland, Florida in February. Teenagers became vocal activists, in stark contrast to timid politicians, and reignited the gun control debate. “America’s Dad” Bil…

I have to say it, as odd as it is for me to admit this, but I really do like the Saturn ION. But, in Red Line Quad Coupe form only. When I went to Ft. Wayne to the Saturn dealership and gave them my number to contact me for when the Astra arrives, I sat in one. Know what? I loved the center mounted gauge cluster and the wonderful Recaro bucket seats up front. The interior plastics don't feel harsh and cheap now, and have nice graining. The dash plastics in the ION feel better than those in the Cobalt. They don't sound hollow, and feel semirubberized. The steering wheel could be adjusted for any position and not block the guages, and, of course, I loved the amber…

This Friday, a long chapter in the history of Volkswagen AG ends when the last air-cooled motor will be hoisted into a vehicle seen as a museum piece almost everywhere else across the planet. VW is being forced to change the minivan's historic rear-mounted engine because of a new Brazilian emissions law to reduce pollution that goes into effect in 2006. Production {of the van] will continue next year, but the van known here as the "Kombi" will get a new water-cooled motor and a radiator for the first time. The switch marks the last hurrah for the simple engine developed in the 1930s by famed German engineer Ferdinand Porsche, his key element of a "…

Well, it's been awhile since I've posted anything... And I'm sorry to say this, but... Actually, I'm not sorry at all. My mom's getting rid of her '05 Durango because Friday we went and picked her up a 2007 Rendezvous! If you haven't been keeping tally, let me clarify the impact this makes: my dad was looking for a new vehicle a year or two ago and I convinced him to pick up an '05 Grand Prix instead of a Stratus Coupe. Then, I went and bought myself a 2006 Cobalt SS Supercharged. And, on top of that, my mom just leased out this '07 Rendezvous. Three cars in our driveway, one from '05, '06, and '07 and all of them are GMs. I finally convinced my parents to get an all-GM …

Check out this article I just found: Man, 85, Clocked at 100 Mph in Snow, Ice 2 hours ago TORONTO — An 85-year-old motorist lost his license and his Oldsmobile for a week and likely faces a hefty fine after becoming the oldest person snagged to date by a new Ontario law aimed at cracking down on street racers, even though he was just speeding. The man, whose name was not released, was driving on a highway north of Toronto Wednesday when he was allegedly clocked doing 100 mph, 40 mph over the posted speed limit. "He said he was going to the bank and shopping," said Ontario Provincial Police Sgt. Cam Woolley, who noted snow and ice made road conditions treacherous…

Courtesy of Jalopnik. http://jalopnik.com/the-ten-greatest-concept-cars-that-were-never-produced-1731261716 I personally think the list is garbage. Cadillac in particular has numerous models that have all been left out. Not to mention countless others. Thoughts?

Interesting thing today..... I was talking to a guy while standing in line at a Mcdonalds (nice long line). I noticed that he had a Silverado jacket on, so we talked cars.... Toward the end, he tells me he detailed his truck-even waxed the underbody.... Waxed the underbody? I might be able to see that if it is a serious off road truck, but it wasn't. I know I wash the underbody....but does anyone actually wax the bottom of their car?

Today marks the five year Anniversary of me & Marcia's first date. What a long, exciting, strange trip it has been. Since the major SNAFU this past Sept. we have been doing better than ever & today we're going to celebrate all the wonderful products of our relationship. Sofia being the greatest natrually. Our empathy towards eachother & the communication have improved imenselly and I have to say that I was wrong about couple's counceling, it can do a world of good in some cases. I have been very happy with the direction of my life as of late which is a pleasant change since the depresion and apathy I was feeling a few months ago.

Well I have always wanted to write a book and I think know would be the time. The biggest challenge for me is what to write about and who's my audience and would people care. Also its a promise I need to carry out. Before my friend Jay was KIA He always joked about writing a story of our lives in the military and Call it "The life story of an nonexistent person." one thing I'm not short of, is story's, or plot lines, but If i told my story it would have no direction and kind of whiny. So some questions would you be interested in reading about my life? Is it worth it? What should i call it? What message should i try to put across? Do i target it to the youngsters i…

First off, like the new look for C&G....now onto the story... Tonight while waiting to turn into a Dunkin Donuts, sitting in the left lane on the northbound side of a road called Central Park Avenue, I was at a full stop with my left indicator on, sitting behind a Saturn L-Series also with it's left signal on. While we were both waiting to turn into Dunkin, cars coming southbound in both lanes, a Chevy Express van sideswipes my Riviera's left rear quarter panel and wheel well, WHILE going into oncoming traffic in the southbound lanes, to cut me and the Saturn off. After a moment of shock, my girlfriend shouts at me to catch him and get his plate #, I pull up behin…

Interesting but in looking through the MSN auto section, they had this video by Inside Cars where they show some cool things like Tesla battery swap process, but better yet, is that Consumer Reports who has been Anti-American on Auto's supposedly just gave Ram Trucks the coveted Recommended Buy over Ford or Toyota Trucks. They also Recommend Chevy Impala as the best buy in America. http://video.msn.com?vid=59096624-a012-4c38-3f3e-8fa37f94c12f&mkt=en-us&src=CPSmall:shareBar:permalink:search_usage&from=cp^en-us So what do you think?
