GMC's first Front-Driver Back in 1973, GMC launched its first front-wheel drive model. Thoughout GM's history, they've launched so many radical vehicles from the "copper-cooled" Chevrolet of the 1920s to the electric and steam-powered prototypes of the 1960s, but this one is one of the most radical...and, oddly enough, one of the most mainstream. And it was a movie star...check it out and give your thoughts! http://automotivetra...r.com/jump/3031

Here is some food for thought: over 50 percent of Yukon/Yukon XL models sold are Denalis. A pretty nice number and one that makes a fair amount of profit for GMC. But that also means GMC needs to keep Denali models up to date to keep those sales up. For 2018, GMC is making some updates to the Denali trim for the Yukon family. First up is a new multidimensional chrome grille featuring grille shutters to improve fuel economy. "The new grille, which is flanked by HID headlamps and LED Signature Lighting, advances the design legacy established with the very first Yukon Denali in 1999. It’s a more exciting and sophisticated design, while remaining instantly recognizabl…

Was in the Phoenix area this past weekend and while driving down the highway I spotted (or should I say, was passed by) a GMC Acadia. Tried taking a couple pics, but as you can see they didn't come out very good. I would've gotten some better ones but the woman was getting crabby about it. He was running a constant 80mph then turned around as we got back into the edge of town.

Much better views of the little Granite pickup can be found here. We need a tiny pickup in the USA... not as a replacement for anything, but as an addition to the lower end. This one is nicely done, imo.

I'm sorry I didn't find this truck last weekend during the 20% off Black Friday Sale. One option I wasn't considering is the 22" tires & rims ($3k option!! :-O ). Looking for input on this option (22" tires) - other than being an expensive-to-replace tire, anyone have any knowledge about the ride quality and handling characteristics of this size tire? I like everything else about this truck.

GMC has given us a peak of the upcoming electric Sierra pickup truck which will launch only in a Denali Trim and being the third all-electric auto in the GMC Portfolio. According to GMC Vice President Duncan Aldred, the Denali Trim line holds tremendous equity for GMC and their customers being one of the most popular trims sold. To quote the VP: “We now have an opportunity to evolve Sierra’s capabilities and technologies, as afforded by transitioning to an all-electric propulsion while also elevating the luxurious design and comfort associated with Denali.” The electric Sierra will be purposefully built on the Ultium Platform with premium…

Well at least it was a GMC Envoy that was the last built model. However, I don't personally like the fact that GM had to choose the 23rd to end production of these trucks (my birthday). What hurt them was the lack of dollars spent on updates - while the '06 refresh brought some minor upgrades, it wasn't enough. If they received a new interior in '06, with the new radios (blacktie) I would have looked at getting another one. But since these trucks have been on the market since spring of 2001, they basically soldiered on for 8 years without changes (wheels, colors, minor exterior trim updates are about it). I know many of the posters on here did not like the Envoy, b…

Checking out the GMC lot, I noticed many of the new Sierra's come with "chrome-clad aluminum wheels" which looked like a steel wheel (based on where the rim meets the tire) with a Chrome-plated plastic cover. The 17"s are still cast aluminum, but all the 18s seem to have these plastic wheels. What's the buyer advantage?

All Cars Central Obituaries: The 2005 GMC Envoy XUV Born: 2003 Died: Not Soon Enough! Well, it seems that the General Motors section has gone un-noticed for the last few weeks. That is primarily due to the lack of exciting news from our friends at General Motors since the mid-grade debut of the Cadillac DTS and Buick Lucerne doublemint twins at the 2005 Chicago Auto Show. The lack of posts in each respective article shows that GM is really stirring up excitement with us here at All Cars Central. However, if you jump over to GM, for obvious reasons, they are toasting the DTS and the Lucerne as the best thing since power windows and safety glass. Incidentally, both po…

A few weeks ago, based on some findings on GM's order guide, we reported that GMC would soon be announcing Graphite and Graphite Performance editions of the GMC Yukon and Yukon XL. These new trims would mirror the RST and RST Performance Editions available on the Chevrolet Tahoe RST and Chevrolet Suburban RST. Today, the official release is out. For 2019, the Graphite Edition is an appearance package that offered darkened trim and grille, special wheels, and black roof rails. Stepping from Graphite to Graphite Performance Edition gains the buyer: 6.2L V-8 engine. 10-speed automatic transmission. Magnetic Ride…

GMC is working towards differentiating itself from Chevrolet with products. The new Canyon and full-size SUVs show this with different designs and more upscale interior appointments. But General Motors is considering giving GMC its own product. GM global product chief Mark Reuss tells Automotive News that the company is working on a model that will be for GMC only. Reuss didn't give any details about the new model, but did cite the brand's potential to appeal to appeal to non-GM customers and the strong prices that GMC models carry. So what could this new model be? A car? Most likely not. GM global design chief Ed Welburn says the GMC's design studio is "as busy as it's…

The last few weeks have been awash with reports about huge price increases in the large crossover segment. The 2024 Hyundai Santa will jump over $5,000 on some trims, the 2024 Ford Explorer jumps $4,360, and the sibling to the GMC Acadia, the 2024 Chevrolet Traverse increases, at minimum, $3,580. So it is no real surprise to see a report today from CarsDirect that the order guide is showing some versions of the 2024 GMC Acadia are going up by over $6,600. The GMC, like the Hyundai Santa Fe, likely has the best excuse for such a large price increase, it is sizing up as well. For 2024, the Acadia's wheelbase grows 8.9 inches, overall length grows just over 10 inches,…

Dodge let the insane Ram SRT-10 fade away last year, Ford hasn't built the beloved F-150 Lightning since 2003 and the newly muscular Toyota Tundra is more than 20 horsepower behind. 2017 GMC Acadia - Denali or All-Terrain, what would you choose? As I have spent time with my son looking at various CUV models, I cam across the new Acadia and learned they had a monochromatic version that I think is very sharp looking. GMC has built a very nice profitable line by offering Denali on every model they make. Yet not everyone likes Chrome all over. So this brings up the desire to see what people think. I configured up two near identical CUVs with the only difference being the All-Terrain package on an SLT2 equipped Acadia and the Denali package on an SLT2 equipped Acadia. What are your thoughts? It seems somewhat odd that GMC doesn't have a subcompact/entry-level crossover like its sister brands Buick and Chevrolet. Speaking with Automotive News at the media launch of the GMC Terrain, the head of Buick and GMC Duncan Aldred said a model that is smaller and less-expensive than the Terrain is "a logical place" for the brand to expand. "To me, there is more room for SUVs in the GMC stable. An obvious place for GMC to be if it expands is that small SUV segment," said Aldred. Small crossovers have become one of the hottest segments in the past few years with various automakers throwing their hat into the ring. Aldred admitted that GMC "should have been first…

A few months back, we reported on a story dealing with possible future products for GMC. One of those products being bandied about was a competitor to the Jeep Wrangler. Well it seems this idea has some legs at GM as a report from the Wall Street Journal says GM has spoken to its dealers about this. Speaking with a several sources, the Journal reports that GM talked to its dealers about the possibility of a GMC product that would borrow cues and off-road credentials from the defunct Hummer brand. Dealers were asked to provide feedback and do some research to help the company make a decision of whether or not to go forward with it. “The idea is being kicked around real h…

There is a growing number of automakers who are announcing plans to electrify their lineup, while others are considering it. GMC is the latter category according to a new report from CNBC. “Certainly, it’s something we’re considering," said Duncan Aldred, vice president of GMC when asked if there was the possibility of an electric Sierra. Aldred wouldn't say much more than that except mentioning that General Motors CEO Mary Barra has already made comments about "an all-electric future." It wouldn't be surprising if an all-electric Sierra sparks an all-electric Chevrolet Silverado since they are basically the same truck, allowing GM to take advantage of eco…

Canadian Driver: August 8, 2006 Feature: GM reveals new 2007 Silverado and Sierra Among domestic manufacturers, trucks are big business: they are General Motors' highest-volume product, and the profits they generate are going to be considered a large part of the company's plan to revive its flagging fortunes. GMC Hummer EV drivers can now charge their gargantuan EVs on Tesla Superchargers, according to an announcement on GMC's website. Enabling Supercharging requires an update to the myGMC app; however, users can use the Tesla app and register temporarily as a Rivian R1S until the app update completes. Drivers who expect to use the Tesla Superchargers network regularly may wish to sign up for a $12.99 subscription through the Tesla app, which grants a 10c/kWh discount. With a 200 kWh battery, just two charges from 20% - 80% per month would cover the membership fee. The myGMC app will also allow owners to purchase an official NACS to CCS adaptor. The Ford SVT Raptor currently rules the roost when it comes to off-road trucks. But it seems no one wants to take it head on. Instead, a number of truck manufacturers are introducing models with some modest upgrades to tackle the trail - Ram 1500 Rebel and Toyota TRD Pro. GMC is the latest automaker to join the latter group with the 2016 Sierra All Terrain X. Unlike the Rebel and TRD Pro, the All Terrain X isn't a separate model. Instead, it's a set of packages available on the Sierra 1500 Crew Cab equipped with four-wheel drive. It begins by equipping the truck with the All Terrain package that includes the Z71 off-road package with Rancho shocks, an Eaton rear-locki…

William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com March 15, 2012 It only seems like a year ago when we got our hands on some spy shots of a GMC Terrain Denali mule running around metro Detroit. Well fast forward to today and General Motors is unveiling the Terrain Denali, almost a month before the New York Auto Show. The big news for the Terrain Denali comes in the powerplants. 2007 Yukon is a leap forward in styling and content By Paul & Anita Lienert The redesigned 2007 GMC Yukon got plenty of advance publicity months before it went on sale in February, as much for General Motors' questionable timing as for the full-size utility vehicle's extensive makeover. Critics have questioned why GM focused so much of its development budget on big trucks and SUVs at a time of stratospheric fuel prices and increasing foreign competition in passenger cars. But the Yukon and its siblings, the Chevrolet Tahoe and Cadillac Escalade, were pretty long in the tooth and desperately in need of a major overhaul. In any context, the '07 Yukon is a huge step…

From the not surprising file, a spy photographer has gotten the first indication of a Canyon Denali. Back in September, we reported that GMC's chief wants a Canyon Denali, but didn't give a possible timeline for when it will come out. Pictures show a prototype Canyon wearing the Denali's chrome mesh grille and chrome bumper behind some camouflage. Now the prototype doesn't feature a chrome rear bumper like other Denali models. But it doesn't mean that the production model will not feature one. No pictures of the prototype's interior, but we expect the usual Denali upgrades. Source: Autoblog View full article

GMC: Crossing over this fall Automotive News / August 21, 2006 - 6:00 am Acadia: GMC adds a mid-sized crossover called the Acadia for the 2007 model year, built on General Motors' new front-wheel-drive Lambda architecture. The Acadia will be GMC's first crossover and will hit dealerships this fall, soon after Saturn launches its new crossover, the Outlook. The vehicles share the same architecture. The Acadia has three rows of seats and can seat up to eight people. It will be powered by a 3.6-liter, V-6 engine capable of 267 hp. Small crossover: GMC will not get a small crossover. I still appreciate chrome bumpers on a pickup truck, and Colorado is all about the body-color bumpers unless I go full-tilt Z71, which I am scared of due to MSRP loftiness.

GMC isn't ready to say good-bye to the current Acadia. Automotive News reports that the current Acadia will be sold alongside the next-generation model starting this spring. GM spokesman Brian Gobel said both models will be sold for a limited time, although a timeframe wasn't given. Gobel explained the decision to keep selling the old Acadia was due to manufacturing. The current model is built at GM's Lansing, Michigan plant, alongside the Buick Enclave and Chevrolet Traverse. With the next-generation Acadia being built in Spring Hill, Tennesse, this leaves a huge gap in the production schedule for Lansing. For the time being, the current Acadia will continue to be bu…

I'm curious, and maybe someone can enlighten me. What killed the Envoy XUV concept, yet the Avalanche and Escalade are doing well! I would think that a mid-size multi-function truck would have solved many needs in the marketplace. Was is overpriced? Did it not perform its multi-tasks well? Did it have any mechanical or functional problems? In that vein, many people have asked for the Nomad concept vehicle..... and GM continues to ignore them, yet it has built 3 iterations of the concept, since the '55-'57 Nomads. It even built a Nomad van for a while, and then discontinued it. Why? Do multi-function vehicles compromise too much? Why hasn't a Colorado-sized version…

My Dad has been ready to replace a 2000 F-150 that was worn-out. My parents have been long-time, loyal Ford buyers...I have worked for a Ford deale since 1992. Their first consideration was Expedition and F-150 Super-Crew. Mom currently drives (and LOVES) her 2002 Explorer. Dad was very interested in the Nissan Armada, and some of his co-workers suggested a Ridgeline. So he looked, drove, and then took Mom along to test drive again. And again. Mom & Dad's thoughts: Expedition and F-150 - good reputation and good $$ deal with my family plan pricing, but looks are a bit too bland. Performance feels weak. Armada - very impressive overall, great seats, ni…

Hello all, I'm a newbie to this site, contemplating a return to the GM fold after an abscence of 15 years. I have a question regarding the reliability of the cylinder shutdown system on the 5.3L engine. I had a really horrible experience with a Cadillac Eldorado with the old V-8-6-4 system, and I'm scared to death of the thought of another similar deal. But wifey wants an Envoy Denali. So, the question is, what are ya'll experiencing? Can it be decativated electronically by means of a chip or some other device? Any real world experience and/or advice would be most appreciated. Thanks so much ya'll....

Check out the pictures someone ignored the embargo on of the new GMC Zeta. I will not post the pictures here but you cvan see them at Aublog.com Boys I think we are looking at the future and it looks great. We have a Zeta with truck like shoulders. GMC added a hybrid system to this and made a vehicle that would make a joke out of the Toyota and Honda entries in this small unibody truck market. The XT has a V8 and should have many of the abilities of the old 1/2 ton truck but in a more Crossover/Car like platform. I can see this as a way to combate the loss of truck sales and move people to a more higher mileage platform. Now if they could also do this in a l…

It was reported a couple of days ago over at autoblog that the next GMC Acadia is to debut at the upcoming Chicago Auto Show; however, they have now posted an update to the article that states the Acadia is to receive a mid-cycle enhancement (MCE) only: I kind of think it's a little late for a MCE at this point... the Acadia has been available for 6 years now (on sale in 2006 as a 2007 model), and if a new version is coming for 2013, is it really a good idea to spend that kind of money for a one year deal? Of course the bad news could be that the current Acadia (and Enclave) stick around with this MCE for another couple of years. Your thoughts? Source: autoblog

Have you seen the latest GMC commercial?....I especially like the part where it goes into 380 degrees around a Denali pickup with great hot music playing. I kind of got aroused, made me want one of those very sharp, sexy trucks. I hope GM does more of that....make me want to buy it. Bonus commercial item: I just saw a coolant commercial...of course can't remember the name because it was so blatantly sexy and I was distracted. A hot well-endowed mama comes over to the car and begins to pour in some liquid while a male voice mentions something about a 'jug' of coolant.....as the model leans in and displays her ample cleavage...now that's how to sell sex…

I just flew into beautiful soggy Orlando, Florida for a convention and decided to rent one of the Lamda trio for the week I am here to see how it handles it's duties day to day. We will be transporting people to the show, 5-7 of them on certain days, as well as showing customers around a few bakeries in the area. Unlike my normal one-person point of view when I rent a car, I want to see how it handles the people and the luggage that goes with them. Also, my wife and I will be considering this truck and the Saturn sibling when her lease is up on our lemon-y unfresh Commander. So at National I pick up an Acadia SLT FWD in bright silver over grey leather. Pretty attrac…

I was just on my GM Access vehicle locator looking for a 2007 Yukon for a customer. So I set the model year to 2007 and was looking through the list for the Yukon when I saw at the bottom of the list "TV14526 ACADIA AWD". So I'm thinking that the Acadia might actually be a 2007 model.

GMC's chief, Duncan Aldred has a dream. He wants to see a Denali version of the new Canyon midsize truck. "I'm pushing the engineers and designers to give me a credible Denali,"Aldred told Automotive News. "I'm not just going to badge engineer it. It's got to be credible." Aldred says the Denali lineup made up 20 percent of GMC's mix in 2013. He wants to see that increased to 25 percent in the next few years and believes a Denali version of the Canyon is the ticket. "I'm going to sell quite a lot of Canyons, so that's kind of going to halt my progress" if the pickup doesn't eventually get a Denali version, Aldred said. Aldred wouldn't reveal what he would like to see …

Article Monday, February 11, 2008 Feds to investigate GM SUV fires Associated Press WASHINGTON -- The government is investigating reports of engine fires in General Motors' full-size sport utility vehicles. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says it has received two reports of fires on 2007 model year Chevrolet Tahoe SUVs. Both reports allege that the vehicles were parked in a home garage with the engine shut off when the fires occurred, causing significant property damage. The investigation, which also includes the 2007 GMC Yukon SUV, involves about 423,000 SUVs. General Motors Corp. spokesman Alan Adler says today the company was coope…

GMC is giving its off-road oriented Sierra AT4 some more performance with a recently announced package. Called the AT4 Off-Road Performance Package, it will add a 6.2L V8, performance air intake, cat-back performance exhaust system, and a set Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac tires with 18-inch alloy wheels. The intake and exhaust add 15 horsepower and 9 pound-feet of torque over the stock 6.2L V8 - total output stands at 435 horsepower and 469 pound-feet of torque. The price tag for this option is $4,940 which may put some people off. You can buy most of the parts a la carte, but as The Truth About Cars notes, it will be slightly more expensive than buying the package. …

2007 GMC Acadia Road Test A notch above the rest—including some big names by Eric Peters | (2007-07-05) | Link to Original Article @ TCC GMC is GM's upscale SUV and truck division, up a notch from Chevy, not quite as high-end as Cadillac. And until now, it has only sold trucks and truck-based SUVs. Of course, not everyone needs or wants a truck - or even truck-based SUV, for that matter. Realizing this, GM decided to broaden GMC's product portfolio by adding the new Acadia to the lineup. Though it has the hunky looks of a large, truck-based SUV, the eight-passenger Acadia is in fact the first-ever GMC model to be built on what is essentially a front-wheel-drive, …

TCC Test: 2007 GMC Yukon Denali If you aren't put off by the price or the fuel economy and need something in a full-size SUV with all the comforts of Bill Gates' home, the Denali is your truck. But as fewer customers are willing to clear those hurdles, the day may not be far off that Smithsonian starts clearing a spot next to its locomotive in the museum for vehicles like these. Aparently on the new GMT900s if you opt for the Navigation radio you only get a single slot DVD/CD player. No CD changer available like the previous models. This stinks! When you have the Nav CD in the player, you have no option to play music CDs. This seems like a typical GM oversight to me. Even the Caddy does not offer a CD changer. You get one extra slot for 1 more disc. Better, but still not adequate. Comments?

GMC had a hit on their hand when they introduced the GMC Canyon for the 2015 model year, but they've not done a lot to refresh the truck visually since then. Six years is a long time for a truck to go without a refresh, but in 2021 the Canyon will get one. In addition to the visual refresh, the Canyon is getting a new AT4 trim line like that of its big brother the Sierra. The AT4 designation brings new 31-inch Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac tires on 17-inch aluminum wheels, an off-road tuned suspension with advanced hill descent control system, four-wheel drive standard along with a G80 rear automatic locking differential, and a transfer case skid plate. GMC is taking its CarbonPro carbon-fiber bed into limited production in June for the 2019 model year and making it into its own edition. GMC announced the CarbonPro when the 2019 GMC Sierra Denali debuted back in March 2018. GMC says that at first, the CarbonPro edition will be available in limited numbers of Denali and AT4 models and will expand availability of the package in those trims for 2020. The CarbonPro bed is lighter than a steel bed by about 60 pounds, but has much stronger durability and scratch resistance. Carbon fiber is naturally corrosion resistant, making the GMC CarbonPro edition the most corrosion resistant bed in the industry. Additio…

I love the 6.2L engine and the 6 speed tranny. Only have 130 miles on it so far. Seems much more responsive than the old 5.3 in my (traded in) Avalanche. The computer claims I am getting 14.2 MPG so far. I can't complain about that.
