Hey gang: Long time no post. I'm glad to see that a lot of the same names are still here. I was going to post an extended review of my car on its 8th birthday and didn't get around to it. So, now I'll post the update slightly after its 8.5th birthday. My 2008 LaCrosse, which I bought after a lot of vetting on this forum between it and other W-body stablemates of the same year, has been a good car. I can say that I am happy with the purchase. It now (only) has between 50,000 and 60,000 miles, largely because of using public transit or renting cars. The best feature about the LaCrosse is how it feels like a true to form Buick, with its very good build quali…

My new car. I have been looking awhile for something in excellent shape that was already done. SO I can just drive and enjoy. Intailly I wanted a Trans Am (NOT GTA) with the silver GFX but not too mnay 350s in that combo were made. So I expanded my search to include Formulas. And although it has T-tops--that was not my ideal option but since the rest of the car is so perfect I decided that I can overlook them. Drove it from Chicago to Calgary, Alberta. 89 Formula 350--most of the usual options. Was rebuillt with: Edlebrock Aluminum E-Tec 170 heads SLP Runners SLP Headers (dual cat) Borla exhaust TPIS ZZ9 cam 1.6 Gold Cranerockers Custom software 700R4 rebuilt…

I posted this in my thread in the lounge but thought I would post it here to since I've been meaning to for a while anyway... The album includes a few good pictures of my '68 Camaro SS and my '73 Camaro Z28/RS. It also includes a picture of my daily driver; the Focus ZX3 before it got smashed and as a bonus, the pictures of the infamous camry rental from a year ago. Not pictured: Our 1999 Silverado Z71, our 2001 F-150 and our 1982 Toyota Starlet (beater) http://uncc.facebook.com/album.php?aid=201...5ee&id=36614241

It was a nice day out but at the same time rather warm (85 degrees!). I discovered today that the Intrepid's A/C wasn't very cold. So I bought a couple cans of R134a (one for the Intrepid and one for the Shadow, (because I know it needs it). Took some time but after an hour or two I had both cars blowing out ice cubes. Then I cleaned out the interiors, and finished off with a rinse to the exteriors. They'll need a more formal cleaning inside and out but a rinse couldn't hurt. This is especially true for the Shadow, as the poor thing wasn't washed once all winter...making it look even worse than it is. After I finished I snapped some late afternoon photos while the cars …

I still have the Lesabre T-Type and my parents still have their Expediton and Tahoe. So this car is my personal car #2. I am still sticking with GM and it is still a Buick. I don't have it just yet but I am taking delivery of it this Saturday. What is it? I am buying a 1988 Buick ______. It was a deal I couldn't turn down and I love the car even though it is front wheel drive still. It has higher mileage, 156k miles but is still running strong. It has one rust spot which is quite huge but an easy fix. The car's interior is mint except for the center console in which the leather needs to be reupholstered. The headliner on the sunroof panel needs to be done as well but thos…

My first was a $200 Rusty 86 Nissan Sentra my mom bought me when I was 15. I ended up totaling in the back woods of Northern Minnesota. My Second was a $1,900 91 4 banger Cavalier RS Sedan, that ended up being sold while I was in the military. Sorry no pics of either car, but your not missing much. The first car I bought myself was a 93 Cutlass Supreme Convertible, Vin X of course. White, White top and Maroon Interior. The car the First day I had it June 2000... Sometime in late 2002-early 2003... Mid-2003... Always kept her clean, shiney and in running order... The in Oct 2003... I then bought a 95 Z28... Which was traded in a …

A 2021 GMC Canyon Denali - White with Cocoa/Dark Atmosphere interior. Big change from the CTS but not the first truck I have had. It's been a number of years now but I have had two S10's and two Rangers through the years. So why a Canyon you ask? Well, I decided I wanted a truck for towing the camper and full size, while very nice, just didn't suit our needs. It doesn't fit in the garage and would be hard to get around when parked in the driveway. I did really want the 3.0L Duramax, though, so I gave it some serious thought. I was either going to get a truck or buy the Cadillac. Eventually decided on either a Colorado or Canyon but the initial stop at a Chevy and …

Couldn't help myself. After my dad so graciously bought the '93 Fleetwood Brougham for my brother and I to use as a "school car" ( ), I fell madly in love with that car and knew I would one day have one of my own. Well, as luck would have it, I stumbled upon a Medium Marblehead Metallic/Light Neutral '95 with 117k on it at a used car lot not far from our house via Autotrader (it was finals week...what else was I supposed to be looking at!?), and went to look at it. In a lot of aspects, it was even nicer than our primo '93, plus had all the best improvements they ever got (LT1 Vette engine, larger mirrors, etc.). Took me a couple weeks to really think it over, but I e…

I just got another car, its a silver 2001 Oldsmobile Aurora 3.5 V6 with 80,000 miles. Drove a couple of Auroras and this one seems the best in terms of condition. I was shocked at how well the 3.5 pulls the car around, and the interior is a very nice black leather. Tomarrow I have to go pick it up and get it registered, I CAN"T WAIT!!!!!

The other day i took out my Forthie for a spin. Can you guess what motor it is? from the sound? Instead of looking at other post i made about this car. cruising down Metro park way. sorry its hard to drive and take videos. This one is bad but you can hear the engine pretty good i was hitting those turns around 60 with one hand driving hope you like the AC knob. This ghetto video is just some revving. from this you should be able to guess the engine very easily. another pointless one but at idle is my oil pressure dangerously low? I think it is. Well it was D-day for me today as I picked up my newest edition to my fleet, my son and I went to pick it up around 1:00 today and he has been detailing it and waxing it up until now. Well he took it down to the park and shot a few for everyone on C&G, aside of being louder than the 3400 in my 2001 and having tighter steering and firmer ride it is a very similar car. It is sportier though and my son agrees, Monday I have to get new plates for it, I have only put three miles on it. My son can't wait to get a crack at it on the open road, he really likes it way more than the 2001 and frankly so do I. It is amazing what a few small things can do to a good car a great car…

Still working for and loving Acura in the Philly area, and driving my 2nd or 3rd new TSX demo. Great car. Never something I had considered before, but just the right mix of size, power, refinement, fun and economy. Tech is the best in the biz, too. I don't need a second car of my own, but I WANT one, and if the dollars work, why not. Never hurts to own your own car. Went on vacation in Florida & Georgia mid September, and for a week had a brand new 2012 SRX Performance and was intrigued by GM again. My friend and I loved it and wanted to buy one. I started looking at lease deals, and then cars too, and narrowed down to the SRX, Lacrosse Touring and Regal. SRX awesom…

Well, after a breif 2 years with an 03 MDX, back to a 2 GM family. Very fortunate to be the owners of a 08 HHR SS, black on black, auto, purchased April 2008 brand new. Last night, picked up a 2007 Denali XL, preowned with 26k miles. Black on black. Months of searching and moreso, waiting for prices to drop a little bit. Will purchase the extended warranty on the Denali within the next year. That will be it for a number of years for me..probably spent too much on vehicles, but got exactly what I wanted in the end. Hey all, my name's Ross, and this fine machine you see here is my 1996 Buick Riviera, also affectionately called The Egg by my family and friends. I was lucky enough to purchase this beautiful car in September of 2004 with just under 115,000 ticks on the clock for $2000 from a lady whose husband had passed away in May of that year. As a result of this loss, she wasn't financially able to keep two cars on the road any longer and opted to keep her husband's vehicle for obvious reasons. It's got a pretty strange choice of options when compared to other Rivieras of this generation. It's non-supercharged, sunroof-delete, and has no memory or heated seats or mirrors, ye…

Well after lots of looking around I finally got myself a new car, and what a beauty she is! She has 173k miles on her, which is a little on the high side, but she's been well taken care of. We saw the car posted on Auto Trader through edmunds, and found the auction was nearby. We went there last Wednesday and looks at a lot of cars and drove quite a few. At the end of the day, this one really stood out. Paint job is very good, headlights are crystal clear, the engine runs smooth with no knocking or chirping, the tranny shifts beautifully, and the interior is like new. Carfax showed it to be in the clear, as well. I paid $2,100 for it. I took it to the mechanic to have …

So after over a year of owning her I've finally done something to make her more unique. While I do like white-face gauges and the sporting image they give off, I've long wanted some sort of metallic rings to surround them. Not only does it add some modern bright work to the cabin, but it ads a touch of class. Well, I wasn't able to get rings for the gauges but I did manage to get the next best thing. On the recent $50 Day I managed to pick up a gauge cluster out of a Chrysler Concorde, and despite the rain I managed to keep it safe and dry. Yesterday, with some modifications, I was able to swap them out. Although these gauges are black, I do like the how they look, and…

hey guys, I just put a deposit on a white on tan 1995 Buick Riviera I found on Ebay, I test drove it today and it drove great. It is supercharged and has 64k miles on it. The only flaws I've found on the car so far are the traction control button falls into the dash when I went to test it, also the "R" in the grill is being held on with a ziptie, the maker light in the rear bumper on the left side is out and one bulb in the third stop light is out....otherwise it's damn near mint, save a few scratches....here this is it, check it out....The guy told me he would end the auction but its still posted for some reason so I am a little pissed but anyway here she is... 2018 Chrysler Pacifica Touring L Plus And I am super excited about it. It almost makes me sad that it is my wife's vehicle. For the life of me I have no idea why these things have such a bad reputation amongst the general public. They do everything a CUV does but better, with the possible exception of towing and that even depends on which CUV you are comparing it to. I personally think this thing is kick ass. I just wish GM would rejoin the market and make a stylish minivan. A Buick minivan would be good. Maybe make a little more stylish version of the GL8 they sell in China?

Been a while since I've had a "toy" car. Decided to buy this 1988 Firebird Formula for my son and I to work on together. He is almost 13 and not at all mechanically inclined. Not so much because he can't be but because I am one of those picky people that would never let him help me because I wanted to make sure it was done right. It's a pretty clean and rust free all original driver but has more than enough flaws (starting with its anemic 305 V8) that I won't feel guilty doing an LS swap on it. I already sourced the engine and trans as well as a far amount of parts for the conversion but with COVID raging here in Michigan I would feel too guilty to order the rest of …

Some of you have followed my new car trades over the past few years: 2001 Alero, 2002 Sentra SE-R, 2004 Grand Prix, 2006 Mariner Premier, 2007 Civic Si, 2008 Sierra WT, 2010 GTI.... The GTI was just too harsh for my taste, so I test drove the '11 Buick Regal, Lacrosse, Acura TSX, and TL. I researched (but did not drive) Avalon, G37, Lexus ES, Lincoln MKZ. Now there's a brand new 2010 Acura TL (Tech Pkg) in the garage. Bold, polarizing styling...yes. But overall, it's not much more dramatic than the '04 Grand Prix. One factor which attracted me to the TL: it feels like a luxurious, refined version of the GP, which was my favorite car of all time. So here we go! I …

This past Saturday I went to my trusted Buick dealer and purchased a very gently used 2019 LaCrosse with about 4,000 miles. It's an Essence AWD in Red Quartz Metallic and an Ebony interior, with the Bose Centerpoint Surround, Blind Spot Monitoring, Navigation, Lane Keep Assist, Panoramic Sunroof, etc. The dealer held firm on their internet price but the price was honestly really good for an almost-new car. The car is stunning and after driving it, I was sold. It is a damn shame this car is gone from the US. Aside from having the carpeted mats, the dealer gave me ebony Buick all-weather mats. During the test drive I happened to comment I wish it had the sun…

Guys, I have switched to "the other side". In my garage is a gorgeous 2007 Honda Civic Si sedan. Got it last night. My (trade-in) 2006 Mercury Mariner was fine, but I began craving something sportier, more athletic, and with more personality. Plus, I felt like the Mariner was a little too "feminine" somehow. After much online research and then a few test-drives, I was won-over by the Honda's styling, performance, reputation, resale, and little details like the finely-tuned & engineered controls. Example: the turn signal lever & a/c knob operation is VERY slick & satisfying. The interior ergonomics are perfect for me: I'm barely 5 ft 6 inches tall…

Just realized I never made a post about this, but a few weeks ago my younger brother bought his first car (and beat me by about 2.5 years at that!). He had wanted a Cutlass/Monte Carlo from the late 80's for a while, and was always looking. Never really found much except for a white '86 Cutlass with the 307 V8 at a local little used car place, and they looked at and drove it, but still weren't sure. Wasn't bad at all, but seemed to have a transmission issue and some other small issues. So they kept looking and he also was considering some late 80's and early 90's Caprices they found in his price range. One Sunday were on their way to head up state a distance to look …

It is 2 items away from being the Regal I'd be completely happy with. #1 is the color is green instead of the preferred black and #2 is that it is alas an LSE as opposed to the GSE. That supercharged Buick engine is something I've always dreamed of being able to afford. Considering I'm a 22 y/o broke as Hell college student (well that is until May 4th when I finally graduate!) I was cautious about buying a VW, but I didn't buy it blind. I looked into its reliability ratings and common issues, got a carfax report and had it checked out by a mechanic before I bought it. It runs very well and is rather peppy for only having 116 hp. Rides nicely, too. It has alot of quicks I'm not used to, though. gonna pick up the new (and i do mean new) car either late tonight or Friday noon. they gotta bring it back from IOWAY. I love my Aztek, gonna miss it, but it was time. 113,600 or so. Decided not to expend a few thousand on all the things it needed or should have in the next 12 months to ensure it would be worth keeping another 2-3 years. Didn't want to chance the tranny up and giving out since its been temperamental and foreshadowing its demise. And it turns out got a decent amount on trade for it as well. So tonight after work I roped Sixty8 and his lovely new bride into taking a ride down to Warwick, Rhode Island (170-mile round trip) to pick up the latest addition to the fleet: a 1978 Cadillac Coupe DeVille with 94,000 miles and change on it. It's very clean for its age, everything works (except for the AC compressor, which is seized, which means I need a shorter belt if I want power steering!), colors are brown with a brown top and brown interior, and has very stylish late 80's Chevrolet truck wheels on it. Purchased for the paltry sum of $420, I plan to swap out the better parts (most notably the headliner board and the center section of the front bumper) with lesser q…

Picked her up this morning for $600 off two dorky yuppie brothers in Bow, NH. Runs, drives, shifts, and stops. Incredibly solid (have the original Florida title from 1970) except for a little bubbling at the bottoms of the front fenders. Needs cosmetic love, but is mechanically awesome. Goes down the road straight, smooth, and quiet as a Cadillac should. Has a 2 year-old rebuilt transmission with a 50,000 mile warranty that is transferrable to me. It's gonna be me and the girl's backup car/summer beater. I'm glad to have picked it up; I've been having withdrawals since I traded Sixty8 the Banana for my Suburban, but now I once again have a driver!

Leaving work yesterday, the check engine light in my Jeep came on (only the 2nd time in 112k miles). Got home, pulled the code, and it's an OBDII P0306 code, misfire in cylinder 6. Interesting, because I had the plugs replaced last Saturday. Since about Wednesday, I'd noticed a bit of driveline roughness when moving and when sitting at a light in gear. The check engine light stayed on since then. Today after lunch, started and the check engine light didn't come on. Don't seem to notice as much roughness afterwards. Strange. Started and shut down twice since then, light still off. Thinking about taking it back to the shop Monday and explaining what I saw. I ha…

This occurred on Oct 30. I have been away from here since about August, only popping in from time to time, but I figured I would bring some news. Had to get my almost 16 year old teenager a ride and didn't want to give up my Impala.. nor have her rolling around in a compact. She gets her height from me.. and is already 5'9. I told her the budget was $22K with no sports cars (she wanted a damn Camaro... a 16 year old.. with a Camaro) I said "no..." so she looked at used everything else. I'm really proud of her because she looked at a Fusion, Malibu, Escape, an '07 SRX (yes the Boxy one) a used CTS, a 300.. and finally said to me "Daddy.. I kno it has to be Americ…

Perhaps you remember my "winter warrior" 1979 Caprice Classic ... and how filthy it was when I bought and subsequently drove it this past winter: http://www.chevyasylum.com/cort/1979caprice/Welcome.html'>http://www.chevyasylum.com/cort/1979caprice/Welcome.html I've wondered how it might look "all shined up", and a few others told me the same thing. Surprise. Family vehicle change again. I'm no longer around to see them happen, except for my own, but a picture texted today said it all. Mom. Camaro. Loved it. 14 months old with 11900 miles. Couldn't drive in snow, worried her, freaked out multiple times, but loved it and drove like a banshee. Ever since I told her "drive it hard", she would, carefully. Weekly was freaking out about going to the store and not having space, going to work in snow and having to borrow the Subie, going anywhere with dogs and taking Subie, etc. Really, a workable situation, but apparently it pained her to let it sit those times. Really, the space/functionality issue got to her, even if it …

Well GM.. U really need to send my a thanks. I kno U do everytime I buy a Vette or a Cadillac.. but this is my second CUV purchase in 2 months.. Purchased a certified Equinox in Oct.. and now.. Well here's the story Ex-Wifey decided she loved Buick, but was ready to get rid of her '14 Verano Turbo. So.. She came down from NJ and had me take her to look for CUVs at the Buick Dealership. The Enclave proved to be too large.. and wold U believe the salesman actually told her that if she waited just a few months they would be getting in a new mid-size CUV called "Envision." She told him that she was in the mood to buy now.. saw a pearl white Encore AWD, Black/Titanium leather…

Well, what to say besides, it's officially mine. I'm not terribly exciting, but still somewhat am for the sake of finally having a car again. Anyways, here's the story. This car was originally purchased by my grandpa for my grandma back in '05. After three years, she passed away last June. She had only put 8000 miles on it. For the last year, my grandpa has been driving it since selling his Silverado. He hasn't really liked it too much. It's too small for him and always complains about hitting his head when gets in and hitting his stomach once he is in. Recently, he's been looking into trading it in. Most dealerships have only offered him around $5500 for it, despite th…

Added a full cold air intake from the TB to the MAS and a K&N cone filter. It was designed for a G6, but with a few cuts and bracket changes, it now fits in the Malibu. Started at 7:30 this morning and finished with all cleanup at about 11:00. And here is all the crap I gutted from the 'Bu including the crazy air box regulator which has two bladders that I guess is supposed to kill noise from the air...

Quick summary: I need to factory (or equivalent) replacement springs for a 1965 Impala SS Convertible 283 Long detailed story: About 2 years ago I had ordered parts for my 65 Impala from some website (i think it was impalaparts.com but not 100% sure) and I had a local shop install these parts (shocks, springs, & almost a whole suspension kit). The work was done in Late November so I was getting ready to put it away for the winter. When the work was finished I noticed that the front was up pretty high and the shop explained to me that after putting some miles on them it will drop to a proper height. Myself not being mechanically sound, I believed it. Fast forward a y…

Upon hearing the news of my employer going bankrupt, I decided to buy a car. Logical, eh? Actually, I had been looking into it before I heard the news. After the fact, I simply wasn't going to let it ruin my fun. The car had been advertised on VWvortex forums since August, listed for $950. The seller purchased it sight-unseen to use for a project. He hasn't seen the car to this day. He asked a friend of his in the area to pick up the car for him and they were planning on doing a complete TDI swap with it. His friend thought the shell was too rough, however, and he put the car back on the market to regain his money. Three months later, and a drop in price to $750, I inqui…

... 1996 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham. There, the suspense is over and the cat is out of the bag. But the deal isn't finalized yet (but will be, most likely, very soon). Well, after racking my brain on what I wanted to do to replace my '07 AURA XE lease coming up in three months, I decided to go used for my next vehicle. And not just any car, mind you, but the largest one Cadillac offered to boot. Here are some pictures I took when I went to see the car on Monday: I do have to take a small loan out to purchase it since being unemployed this summer drained most of the cash I had saved up for a special car purchase (originally the '87 GP LE I posted ab…

Dad has had this for a while now, but I don't think I ever posted pictures. In the past, he owned a '68 Coronet, followed by a '69, and then finally a '70 he restored when I was younger...we loved that thing. Sold before moving to DE. Found this latest project on Craigslist in western PA the summer of '09. Apparently a more valuable combo of sorts, a '68 Coronet 440 with the big block 383. Was a good deal to him. Been a back yard project ever since. Lots of rust. Runs well. Replacing panel by panel, including things like the full trunk floor, etc. He and my brother hit Carlisle this past weekend and came back with new fenders, etc. from western states. Interior is also…

My dad just got a new Forester (tried to get him to buy a Vue but failed) so now I get his 2000 Camry!! Sure it's a Toyota, but it's a decent hand-me-down and a great first car for a 17 year old. I would take any car that didn't cost me anything.

I have often remarked on the fact that though I have owned many cars, I have never owned a Corvette or a convertible. Some of you have probably heard me joke that someday I might have to combine the two. Well, about a decade or so ago I left a note in a mailbox at a house where a Corvette convertible had long been siting in the driveway under a tarp. Never heard a word about it. Eventually, the car disappeared and I wondered what became of it. So, a few days ago I get a phone call... It's the owner of the Vette wondering if I might still be interested! We are negotiating.

$800 1997 Saturn SW2 ~200k on body semi-rebuilt engine (new head, lower end inspected & in good condition) interior needs work body is good some performance parts seller included all his s-series specific parts, which somewhat fill both the wagon and the suburban (not crammed full, but all floor space is taken up), including a couple full sets of wheels and some nearly brand new studded snow tires, and a ton of other stuff. Still deciding if I'm going to fix & flip the car, or fix it up & do up some vinyls for my business (web design, computer repair, etc).

Hello Fellow Cheers and Gears members. So since I became unemployed, while I search for a new job I started to clean up to office of the few piles I had and came across the following: http://www.thedieselpage.com/duramaxconversions.htm I had purchesed my conversion book about 3 or 4 years ago as I was planning to convert my clean 1994 C1500 suburban to diesel. I still dream of having it that way but recently had a interesting idea I wanted to float out to the fellow Gear heads here and get some solid feedback. So here goes the questions / thought and I look forward to your responses. I found a 2004 crewcab 4x4 GMC Duramax with 135,000 miles for 10K. If I was to buy…

So it's been a while since I checked in... here's a pic. Cleaned up the Malibu and Cobalt this week so they're ready for the impending snowstorm that's no doubt coming soon. Luckily I didn't need to put the effort in on the Impala. I spotted a rust spot on it behind the chrome trim on the trunk-lid and after the body shop fixed this under warranty they did a whole interior/exterior detailing job complete with wax, tire shine and a steam bath for the engine (score). The chip and rust spot are invisible now and a great job was done (Pics on that later).

So my plans for today were pretty much canceled, and since it was actually pretty nice out (50 degrees) I took the opportunity to give the cars a good interior cleaning, and my car a much needed washing. Enjoy! Up first is the GM. The steering wheel and driver's door have been really dirty since the day we bought the car. Finally, I spent the time cleaning the surfaces of the interior. Makes a huge difference I think.

Well, my Bonneville was getting oh so dirty. The cloth seats had crumbs in them (a first for this car) the carpet was dirty and had grass shaving, the car had 5 weeks of dirt on it, the tires weren't shiney, and the exhuast tips had 24 weeks of black dirt build up on them. It was time to clean her, sadly the SLE didn't get waxed only washed and detailed. On Saturday afternoon I washed the car for my son as he went to his last homecoming of his high school career with a cute friend of his. And me being ths softy I am washed it for him and then let him drive it! What was I thinking? Anyways I am sure he got the cobs out of it, prolly not a bad thing, but not that I don'…

Since it was such a beautiful day today, I made a yard run today, to browse their inventory and see what this place has to offer. Pretty decent size yard really, although I was disappointed to see they had only 3 Panthers, and all of the Prizms were pretty much gutted. Slim pickings there. On the other hand they had a pretty sweet collection of classic cars in the back corner. `Cudas, Chargers, Mustangs, Camaros, Sedan Devilles, Impalas, a Celica GT Liftback among other things. Over at the LH section they have two Steel Blue Intrepids, a 300M, an LHS a Concorde, and some other Intrepids and a few first gens. So the LHS had the Infinity Sail speaker grills, so I grabbed…
