Been a while since I've had a "toy" car. Decided to buy this 1988 Firebird Formula for my son and I to work on together. He is almost 13 and not at all mechanically inclined. Not so much because he can't be but because I am one of those picky people that would never let him help me because I wanted to make sure it was done right. It's a pretty clean and rust free all original driver but has more than enough flaws (starting with its anemic 305 V8) that I won't feel guilty doing an LS swap on it. I already sourced the engine and trans as well as a far amount of parts for the conversion but with COVID raging here in Michigan I would feel too guilty to order the rest of …

So after over a year of owning her I've finally done something to make her more unique. While I do like white-face gauges and the sporting image they give off, I've long wanted some sort of metallic rings to surround them. Not only does it add some modern bright work to the cabin, but it ads a touch of class. Well, I wasn't able to get rings for the gauges but I did manage to get the next best thing. On the recent $50 Day I managed to pick up a gauge cluster out of a Chrysler Concorde, and despite the rain I managed to keep it safe and dry. Yesterday, with some modifications, I was able to swap them out. Although these gauges are black, I do like the how they look, and…

Finally...a year after purchasing the 4Runner, it's back to looking "right". May 2016, bought this 2001 SR5 Sport Black/Tan with the Safari rack on top, and random odds & ends needed, but running perfectly for $2k. Front corner was hit, flare missing, bumper twisted, tires all worn down & mismatched, unevenly, driver's seat post broken off from rust (one past owner did a driveway audio system & pushed a rubber plug out of the firewall, so it had…

The last brand new GM vehicle my parents ever bought in Blue metallic was a 1993 Oldsmobile Achieva. My dad wanted a Grand Am but I thought the Achieva had a really nice interior and was more comfortable for all our super-long road trips we used to take as a family. Even thought I was only 14 I pretty much was allowed to pick the car we'd buy since I had my head burried in car magazines 24/7. I thought Quad4 was a redundant name and years later I grew to hate it for it's lack of power. The SOHC 115HP Quad4 pretty much sucked, even new. Never any usable torque. Anyway my parents had been talking about the posibility of trading their 1997 Grand Am in on a new car in the pa…

Well, not so much a full-blown project as it is more like "getting ready to sell" project My step-son Antonio purchased a 1998 Buick Regal LS Sedan in September of 2011, his first car, with cash he saved from working a part-time job. He did this practically with just six or seven months of saving up! He worked the drive-thru of our local Boston Market and watched each car as it came through. He saw a maroon colored W-body Buick Regal one day and told me he really liked how the car looked. Our search brought us to my selling Buick-GMC dealership that had the '98 advertised for the Labor Day weekend sale. Fast forward to this week. Antonio graduated from high school…

I had to hang with an Impala for a day until I got switched into a Monte Carlo. This was a 3.5 and en route to the Palm Springs area, I spotted a Bob's Big Boy in Calimesa off I-10 (SCREEEECH). Actually, I stopped to eat (YUUUUUMMMMM) and take the photo on the way back. Chevrolet Monte Carlo 3.5 at Bob's Big Boy, Calimesa, CA Then, upon returning it, I spotted this Monte Carlo LT 3.9 at the Burbank airport. If I were to opt for the MC, this is virtually identical to how I would order it. This particular vantage point is attractive...a couple of angles on this car can be clumsy. YOU LIKE? I know KnightFan does. I know Pantho does not.

Not sure if I had posted anything on the car we inherited from Grandpa last December. 2008 Pontiac Grand Prix. He gave it to us last December and then his health quickly declined and he passed away in January this year. He must have known something was up. He was 93. He had still been driving it occasionally up until about 6 months before he died. we did put a bunch of money into misc things and right now it’s throwing a check engine light. Emissions related, they tell me. It’s the venerable 3800 motor. Runs great! Got a fresh oil change today. So I figured what the heck and got it washed for my daughter as well. A few months ago we got a full interior and exte…

Following my wife's little "off road excursion" in my 2005 Dodge Durango, I spent just over 6 months looking for a suitable replacement. I knew I wanted another Durango, but I wanted at least a 2006 model so I could get a Hemi wit the Multi Displacement System, and the replacement had to have AWD, the factory Class IV towing package, and the 3.92:1 axle ratios. I had the funds from the insurance payout, as my price limit (although in a pinch we could have found another thousand or so). I saw vehicles that were practically swiss cheese with rust that people wanted real money for, and dealers trying to convince me that a vehicle had a particular set of factory options,…

I had a chance to snap a few pics of the Cutty today after returning from Pigeon Forge. I didn't take any pics of the back because the bumper that I still haven't replaced sort of ruins it all (the chrome is peeling off). OPGI has a holiday special on '71-'72 Cutlass rear bumpers so I'm going to order one soon. I'm also thinking about slapping a new coat of paint on it next year or the year after that (black this time).

So now that my girlfriend Jessica is up here with us, so is her car, the infamous Prizm. This also happens to be the first GM car to be in my family (we are traditionally Chrysler owners, and even though it's technically a Corolla, hey it's at least got a GM badge on it)I decided to take some pics and show everyone. Now, these pics have been taken after I've replaced a lot of the broken stuff on her car: - HVAC knobs - 2 broken and wouldn't stay on - Interior driver's door handle - housing broken off - Exterior driver's door handle - handle broken clean off - Rear view mirror - adjuster broken, wouldn't stay in place - Driver's door Window Regulator - broken to &…

Finally took the time to take some decent pictures... This is my project car, a 1999 Saturn SC2. I purchased it back in Indiana for $1,000 with a bad automatic transmission that wouldn't shift into reverse. Fortunately, it was able to drive itself home, though by the time I turned into my neighborhood, it would no longer upshift. First gear got it into the garage, where I tinkered on it here & there for the winter. I purchased a number of goodies for it, but the only thing currently done to it is a manual transmission swap with short shifter, and aftermarket wheels. The manual tranny swap probably ran about $500 once all was said & done. I dismantled th…

1998 Suburban LS K1500 (K = 4WD) Very nice shape -power windows -power locks -roof rack -3rd row seat -5.7L V8 (gasoline) -"barn door" rear doors I was surprised when I started looking at Suburbans at just how comfortable both seats of rear seats are. I could see myself being comfortable in any seating position for a long trip. We bought it because we recently moved to Idaho, and our Saturn coupes just aren't made to get along with hard packed dirt mountain roads. So, we have our Saturns for good fuel economy daily drivers, and the Suburban for hauling people (friends here, or friends & family that come to visit) and for rough-roading adventures. Plus we …

These are actually from December when we had that warm spell and it was like 60 degrees. I washed the car that day and took it to the park to take some nice photos. You can also see some of the accessories that I got for Christmas. An exhaust tip (which I really like), 2 Dodge license plate covers, a leather-wrapped steering wheel cover (with Dodge logos), and some nice new floor mats to finish it off. I lost the USB cable to the camera, and then my comp died...then I found the cable yesterday and got my comp fixed today...so I figured...why not?

On Tuesday, Sept. 12th of 2006, on Highway 402 just past Airport Road in Sarnia, Ontario, my Mercury's odometer rolled past 200,000 miles. And I caught it with my camera phone: The KPH view: When I first looked at the pictures, I thought it was a little odd that 200,000 miles would work out to such a round number in kilometers. So, I looked into it further. According to this website, 200K miles equals 321,868.80 kilometers. So, somewhere over the course of its 13 year life, my car has "lost" more than 1,800 kilometers, or more than 1,100 miles!

$800 1997 Saturn SW2 ~200k on body semi-rebuilt engine (new head, lower end inspected & in good condition) interior needs work body is good some performance parts seller included all his s-series specific parts, which somewhat fill both the wagon and the suburban (not crammed full, but all floor space is taken up), including a couple full sets of wheels and some nearly brand new studded snow tires, and a ton of other stuff. Still deciding if I'm going to fix & flip the car, or fix it up & do up some vinyls for my business (web design, computer repair, etc).

So my wife and I headed to the local Buick dealer to see about getting a newer (2001) Century or (2003) Impala. While there the saleperson stated that he had a perfect condition 1996 Park Avenue traded in from an "older" customer. I said I didn't want it, but my wife insisted that we look at it. As it turns out, it not only drove like new, it has less wear and tear than my HHR. It didn't make sense not to buy it. Check out the pictures of the carpet. It almost looks new! You can see the picks at http://www.flickr.com/photos/dsuupr/sets/72157600045197581/ The Park Avenue has the SE pkg, velour interior and base Dynaride suspension. It has 78,600 miles, and all r…

The horn sounds like a dying moose. Hence the name. So my wife and I were facing a choice of putting an engine in her Lumina (camshaft broke from cam bearing wear when it had an intake gasket failure, long before we bought it), or buying something else. The car lot absolved us of responsibility to pay off the note (we only owed $1800) and we took our cash and picked up a Suburban. Now we aren't stuffing four kids in a back seat which isn't even comfortable for three. Now we can put the noisy rowdy 5- and 7-year old kids in the third seat under the very loud rear AC unit, put the babies and the older quieter 12-year old kid in the middle seat, and my wife and I can si…

Here are some pictures of my Impala taken in my back yard in September 2006. It's Superior blue with the semi-rare blue deluxe cloth interior(sorry, no interior pics at the moment). Other than the deluxe cloth (which has the fold down back seat), it has the 1SB option package, CD/cassette stereo and the aluminum wheels. I added the Impala badges on the fron fenders, and replaced the chrome one on the trunk with a body colored one. Other than that, if you've seen one Impala you've seen them all... just that this one happens to be mine.

As mentioned in the other thread, I swapped my mother's 2011 Terrain SLT-1 AWD with the 3.0L for another brand new 2013 Terrain SLT-1 AWD with the 3.6L exactly 2 years and 30k miles to the day the first one was delivered. No issues with the 2011 and great mileage for the most part, little to no wear either. Still drum solid and tight after all the miles, and the 3.0L continued to be buttery smooth. Really her only complaints stemmed from a lack of HVAC in the rear and abnormal amounts of road noise that started to build with age, throughout the cabin on highway trips. By 30k, other than some dirt, the Michelin tires still looked barely touched and it was about due for th…

A 2021 GMC Canyon Denali - White with Cocoa/Dark Atmosphere interior. Big change from the CTS but not the first truck I have had. It's been a number of years now but I have had two S10's and two Rangers through the years. So why a Canyon you ask? Well, I decided I wanted a truck for towing the camper and full size, while very nice, just didn't suit our needs. It doesn't fit in the garage and would be hard to get around when parked in the driveway. I did really want the 3.0L Duramax, though, so I gave it some serious thought. I was either going to get a truck or buy the Cadillac. Eventually decided on either a Colorado or Canyon but the initial stop at a Chevy and …

Well a few months ago I decided to do a little dress up on my grille and add some much needed fog lights. So I decided to do a poor man's billet grille and used 3M chrome body side molding to create the updated grille and then mounted my new oval ( grille shaped) fog lights in the grille. At night the reflection off the chrome and front bumper lights up the grille R which I love. Anyway sorry for the huge pics and bad quality of the photos but my camera is over 10 years old...lol Hope you like the look. I traded my 06 2.4L SS (5 speed) in for an 07 4 door 2.4L SS--automatic. The "free" XM (for 3 months is cool) and so is the remote start. Plus I like the colour. Tinted windows and 3m rock guard for the nose. The dealer won't tind drivers and front passneger door--have to get tha done at a tint shop. I might get a GMPP intake later. I was getting tired of the rush hour commute in the 5 speed and with a kid now--4 doors seemed right. I wish they made a S/C 4 door auto! Or maybe the upcoming Turbo with 6 speed auto..... Car handles great--but def slower then the 5 speed--oh well--I am sure it can beat a Mazda 3/Ralliart ect (its automatic equalivalints) Taking it rea…

Good friend turned in his 2014 Malibu company car and got a 2020. He's impressed! Simple white LT with black cloth. Checked it out the other day and remembered many reasons why i like this current version of the Malibu so much, especially considering I had a 2016 myself. Already he's raving about the fuel economy, size, interior design, comfort. Too bad Chevy can't promote this more. I think an AWD Malibu and a more accessible price on a 2.0 turbo would help. One of Chevy's best shapes in the last 20-30 years....

Figured I'd post the replacement for my brother's wrecked Ranger. It's a Nissan, as you can see. I think it's a 1993. It has about 130k miles on the odometer and it's a stick. I'm not sure if it's a V6 or a 4cyl as I haven't asked nor looked to see for myself. I think he got it for $1k or so. It's a little rusty, but seems more solid than his Ranger was, which is certainly good. It supposedly runs pretty well.

We closed on our home using GMAC so we thought we would continue to support GM by buying a new GM car. Really Roach II was costing us over $500 a month in gas so when we did the math it was cheaper to buy a new Cobalt on a monthly basis and in the long run. When everything is added up, inlcuding the payment, we now spend $50 less per month to run the Cobalt than to run Roach II. There wasn't a 5 speed LS coupe in Blue Granite Metallic so we got a base with cruise and a spoiler. So far we are getting over 40 mpg consistently. At this point we already have over 1700 miles. My wife is now considering the sale of Roach II as she has fallen in love with…

Spent about a day and a half on a neglected car (hasn't been this clean in two summers! ) - my 2004 Chevy Malibu LT Sedan. Now not only are the interior and exterior in showroom new-like condition, but the wheels, wheelwells, tires and rims have also received a thorough cleaning (and wax on the rims for the extra protection & shine). Enjoy! Oh, and don't forget to post your cleaned-up summer ride too.

We just got back from getting this thing home in driving rain. It's a 2003 Monte Carlo LS that needs some engine work. There's water in the oil and it makes a loud tapping sound. No matter for my dad - he can rebuild or replace engines blindfolded with one arm tied behind his back, so this is a pretty cheap way for him to get a decent car to finally replace the Skylark. It's silver with a grey cloth interior, has the 5 spoke aluminum wheels, and the 3.4L V6. He was impressed with the ride/handling, and it's a W-body so it should be stone cold reliable for him. I'll post pics tomorrow morning.

The car had 118,000 miles and a dent in the driver's door when we bought it in February. Since then, we've replaced the heater hoses, put on a set of tires, changed the gas cap, and had a nail in one of the new tires, plugged at no charge. The small star in the windshield has grown from 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch, our oldest son drew on the back seat with a blue Crayola washable marker (it didn't wash out), and about nine crayons melted into the handles in the rear door panels. We pulled the panel under the steering column when one of the screws stripped and have left it alone since then because the check engine light keeps going on and it's a pain to reach with the panel th…

Since this did not work the first time, I will give it another shot. A little about the car, I bought it in April 2006 after the transmission finally went out on my handed down 94 explorer. It had 102,000 miles when I got it and I am the third owner, it currently has around 114,500 miles. Since today is my only day off this week, I decided it was due to be waxed and spent the morning cleaning it up. I tested out my new camera and the pics turned out pretty good. Hope you like them.

Chalk this one up to just being the right place at the right time--BIG time. Currently in my grandparent's stable, my grandmother has a '99 Intrigue GX 3.8 that they bought as a demo in '99 with 5k on it, and my grandfather has both a '94 Ford Aerostar extended XL that he bought as a demo in '95, and a '97 F-150 stripper truck. The Intrigue is for her general driving, as well as their runs to church as such, the truck for his daily outings, and the van is kept in the garage most all of the time, and only ever used for longer trips. The Aerostar is beyond immaculate, and in great colors even, and at 12+ years old, barely over 90k, but he really had been wanting somethin…

A few weeks ago I submited a brief description of my car and some pics to the American Muscle Car Association wesite. By this morning when I checked my email I had almost forgoten all about it. I was shocked and quite pleasantly surprised to find a link to the story of my Camaro and a few photos posted on their homepage as a link under the title of "Feature Car Story, 1968 Camaro" Check it out. I'm so proud... now I'm famous for my burnout pic. in Car Craft and now my beloved Panther has been "featured" online! They spelled my name Sylvester (it's Silvester wiht an "i") but that's hardly worht mentioning. Click on t…

Still working, little by little, and dollar by dollar, to update and upgrade my near perfect '95 Caddy Fleetwood as time goes by. It wasn't even really in "the budget" (but then again, what is?!), but I had been going back and fourth for a few months on new wheel & tire options. There was NOTHING wrong with the OEM wheels and Michelins it had, but the look could stand to ratchet up a bit. Thought aftermarket, thought chrome stocks, and just kept coming back to the OEM Impala SS wheels. A very popular upgrade choice for a lot of B & D bodies, since they're 1) GM OEM, 2) perfect offset and fitment, and 3) look great. So, doing my usual net surfing, found an ad …

Well, The days are numbered with the Jeep :( I recently started my own business that requires more the 4 cu. ft. of storage so I decided it was time to look for a truck. . . after two weeks of being at every GMC and Chevy dealership in 50Km radius, I decided to go with the GMC Sierra. Although I really like the new hoods on the '06 Silverado's. . .but the whole "We Are Professional Grade" advertising really worked for me. I really wish I could wait untill the 07 Sierra but since it's still some time away. . . I bought a 2006 GMC Sierra SLT w/ the vortex performance package. Now with 345Hp, My "HEMI" buddy will be running for t…

Well the poor old Shadow is basically at the end of its life. The body rot is pretty horrendous and its having issues overheating, along with lots of other issues that have crept up lately. So with that he decided it was time for a new car. He had been looking for a second gen Grand Cherokee but in the end settled with something quite different: a 1999 Toyota Camry V6 for $4,500. I think he did quite well. It's got just over 100,000 miles. Body is in great shape. No rust at all. Interior is very clean and in good shape except for a few small things (missing radio button). The V6 is very smooth and might as well be brand new by the way it sounds. Very peppy too. The tran…

So tonight after work I roped Sixty8 and his lovely new bride into taking a ride down to Warwick, Rhode Island (170-mile round trip) to pick up the latest addition to the fleet: a 1978 Cadillac Coupe DeVille with 94,000 miles and change on it. It's very clean for its age, everything works (except for the AC compressor, which is seized, which means I need a shorter belt if I want power steering!), colors are brown with a brown top and brown interior, and has very stylish late 80's Chevrolet truck wheels on it. Purchased for the paltry sum of $420, I plan to swap out the better parts (most notably the headliner board and the center section of the front bumper) with lesser q…

What started out as a simple "replace the oil pan gasket" became a two year project. Not that we worked on the car for two years, just that it took that long. See, to drop the oil pan on this Stude, you really need to either pull the engine or take the whole damn undercarriage apart. Guess which one we did? Since the starter was in the way, I went to remove the starter. But the exhaust is in the way. Since the exhaust was in really bad shape and there was no way to get it apart normally, I used a sawsall. Exhaust out of the way. Back to the starter. The grommet on the starter wire broke apart when removing, causing the need to have someone take apart the star…

Finally got a new set of stainless pipes and mufflers last week (along side the two old tailpipes in this pic) Test fitting: The correct chrome tips came on Monday. Replaces the "turkey-gun" ones that were on the old busted pipes. This car was hobbled together before I bought it. Four exhaust hangers three completely different styles. Of course I bought all new hangers that match. The Avanti uses the "X" frame from the Studebaker Lark convertible to give the fiberglass car more rigidity. The added bonus is the X frame in the middle that the exhaust has to slide in and out of twice on each side. It makes this exhaust a difficult one

Thought I'd chime in on this forum... here's my current vehicles. A 2003 Z71 Avalanche. Absolutly love this thing. I pull a 22' enclosed trailer with it during winter and does great. Here's my '68 Camaro. Bought it as a roller a summer ago. It's tore down right now and already rebuilt the front clip. Remember the GMC Syclone? Had this one for 4 years, sold it 5 years ago this month to build a house.

I took home a near perfect condition 1989 Suburban last night. The vehicle is almost identical to the brochure for 1989. We wanted something that we could go 4-wheeling in and use to tow, which originally was going to be a Bravada. My wife found this Suburban which was owned by an elderly couple since new. It has only 82,000 miles and included tons of records. Supposedly they only used the 4-wheel drive 3 times when it snowed here in the PDX area. The truck includes; 1. Silverado package 2. Power Windows / Locks / Tilt / Cruise 3. Rear and Front A/C 4. Roof rack 5. AM/FM CD player 6. 3rd seat 7. Front bucket seats 8. 350 cu in engine with a 4 speed aut…

Well, after a breif 2 years with an 03 MDX, back to a 2 GM family. Very fortunate to be the owners of a 08 HHR SS, black on black, auto, purchased April 2008 brand new. Last night, picked up a 2007 Denali XL, preowned with 26k miles. Black on black. Months of searching and moreso, waiting for prices to drop a little bit. Will purchase the extended warranty on the Denali within the next year. That will be it for a number of years for me..probably spent too much on vehicles, but got exactly what I wanted in the end. Pics soon.

Well I finally got a chance to take some pictures of my new 9-5. It's a 2001 Aero model with accessory wheels and performance exhaust. It took me about 15 minutes in a big parking lot to get the hang of the standard shift, but after that it clicked and I no longer fear rolling backwards 200ft into a ditch on every hill. I think the Blue Aero paint and tan leather interior go together very nicely, and the wheels are much better than the hideous 3-spoke triangular things that come standard. Here are pics fresh off the memory card:

Welp, we finally got rid of my wife's G55 AMG. I've talked about it here a few times but there was something inherently wrong with it. It had left her stranded at least 5 times and us once. Luckily everything was covered under an extended warranty, so it was minimal out of picket and the loaners were covered or just given to us via a couple different Merc dealerships. Anyway, after getting stranded once since we've had our lil baby, my wife finally had enough of it. I tried convincing her a year or two ago when the market was nuts to bail on it and just make a bunch off of it. That didn't happen, hahaha. When we got her G55 back about a month ago, we were looking for…

I'll be converting the 1985 Ford Econoline with 115,000 original miles into the nicest tour van that I can manage. The van was purchased on a budget and it will be doing three rounds of the United States over the course of the next two years. The modifications we're talking are mostly going to be to the interior, some electronics, etc. I'll be tossing in all Kenwood speakers, a new CD player with an AUX jack, a loft bunk with gear storage underneath, I'll be pulling out the bench seat in the back, installing a 1600w AC power inverter straight off the front battery. Should be a pretty great steed when all is said and done. I'll keep you all updated on it!

I just signed up and introduced myself in the new members section, so I thought I would introduce my car as well. I purchased it in August of 2009 with 12,200 miles and today it has 55,350. I put a lot of miles on it traveling to college and back home to see my grandma the last two years (a 150 mile round trip). I've added a few modifications to it but have kept it largely stock since it is my only car and has been since I have owned it. Before the Mazda, I only had GM vehicles. I was intrigued by the sporty appeal and ease of ownership that a Mazda could offer me. And I got a sweet deal on this one as well. Despite the protests of my GM-loving family, I took the plunge …

Well. Didn't want to get the blower. Wanted to wait another year. Decided wasn't gonna baby the decades old beater anymore Needed to get a new mower last year, but didn't. Planets aligned and picked these up, well they'll get delivered this week. Ariens. The mower has a SUBARU engine! The blower has fuel injection! No choke, no prime, sealed fuel system, no shut off. Can even use E10 in it if you want but i still plan to use only non oxygenated gas in it. Made in US.

Optioned with towing pack (including coolers and Class IV receiver), plus skid plate pack. Dropped it off to have brand new tires fitted before we'd even gotten it home. Well, TAmmy and I were selling our 99 Z/28 because I was thinking about another classic car and I wasn't using the 99 as a daily driver, which is why we bought it. We found this... They gave us $7000 for our 99 which had a lot of miles on it and we argued them down to $14500 for the 71. As soon as I get a nice day around here that I don't have to work i will get some better pics of this one. Hmmm, looks like my website needs updating, AGAIN.
