2006 Chevrolet TrailBlazer SS In its own way, it’s subtler. by Conor Twomey (2006-03-13) If there's one thing the TrailBlazer wasn't crying out for it was more power. A new interior, maybe… but not more power! To my mind, the 300-hp, 5300 Vortec V-8 offers about as much performance as the TrailBlazer really needs for the daily school run, but that didn't stop Chevrolet from slotting the Corvette's LS2 V-8 into its engine bay and beefing up the looks and suspension to match. The resulting vehicle is called the TrailBlazer SS, although confusingly, it's sold as a package on LS or LT short-wheelbase models with 2WD or 4WD, rather than being a model it its own right. G…

June issue of High Performance Chevy list some of what they have been told to expect [in general] for the new Camaro from GMPP. Dealers will offer: Exhaust Packages Cold Air Packages Cams Headers Rims DOT Drag Radials I just hope they inclued the non GM aftermarket early in the cars development as it will be the key with winning the low cost performance car title back from the Mustang. This all falls in line with similar offerings from Pontiac SPO parts for the Solstice. I would expect the Camaro will have much more to offer and I hope some of of what GM offers will include the V6 engine packages too. In the same story they did offer some more info on…

The lengths that automakers go to with camouflaging vehicles continues to amaze us. Case in point, the first spy photos of the next-generation Chevrolet Suburban has hit the internet. General Motors has covered up every surface, including the underside. That's because the new Suburban appears to be ditching the solid rear axle for an independent setup. We know this as a spy photographer found the right spot where there was minimal camouflage and captured it. Why is Chevrolet switching to an IRS setup? It might have to do with the new Ford Expedition which moved to independent rear suspension. A source told Autoblog that Chevrolet wouldn't have fit IRS because it was …

Toyota says... "On another front, Toyota’s president has just told reporters his company plans to move up the launch of a test fleet of plug-in Priuses to 2009, whereas previously these were expected to arrive in 2010. He also indicated Toyota is planning for mass production of electric cars in the "early part of next decade." http://gm-volt.com/2008/08/28/volt-competi...-fleet-to-2009/ Lutz' response GM Vice-Chairman Bob Lutz responded to this news in an interview with reporters. He indicated that the race between Toyota and GM to create a plug-in car is “meaningless” as the Chevy Volt and plug-in Prius are too different to compare. He cited the very short rang…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com October 19, 2013 Automakers are throwing a fair number of alternative fuels in a effort to improve mileage and emissions to see what sticks. General Motors announced this week that they are introducing Bi-Fuel Impala that will be available to fleets and consumers starting next summer. The company points out that the Impala is the only manufacturer-produced, full-size bi-fuel sedan in North America. The Bi-Fuel Impala can run on compressed natural gas (CNG) and gasoline. The vehicle features two tanks for the fuels and has a total range of 500 miles. The driver can change from CNG to gas and vice versa thanks to a button …

Hey all, I am looking at buying a 2006 Malibu LS 4cyl with 11000 verified KMs on the clock, for $13000.......Good Buy?? The story is that the previous owner leased it from the dealer I am buying it from (who I do trust by the way) and then got a job in Europe taht she didn't think she was going to get. She had to move and the car got returned to the dealer and she paid the penalties (the new employer actually did). Thoughts?

General Motors to build new Chevy crossover in Tennessee, not Michigan Sharon Terlep | Link to Original Article @ The Detroit News Artist Conception by Northstar General Motors Corp. won't add a third shift to its Delta Township plant near Lansing, where the automaker builds a new trio of seven- and eight-passenger crossover sport utility vehicles. GM had been considering adding work at the Delta plant when it adds a fourth crossover to its lineup for the Chevrolet brand. Instead, the factory in Spring Hill, Tenn. will build the Chevy, expected sometime in the 2009 model year. A GM spokesperson said it's not yet clear how many jobs the decision could affect.

Hello, my name is Gabe, I am 14, and I love CHEVY! My father owned numerous Chevrolet Chevelles, and was a muscle buff, so its no wonder I like the Chevelle! But I am depressed that no such beast made it to the 1978 redesign . But of course It probably would have been a stripped down Monte Carlo,or would it have been the basis for the Monte Carlo?(How Ironic! The Monte was a plusher version of the Chevelle!) In my scenario, the Heavy Chevy would have continued on, and eventually, the Monte Carlo would take the long walk in 1981, and the proposed Monte SS would have become the Chevelle SS! The Chevelle would have gotten its own dedicated platform, the S Body, which is bas…

William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com April 19, 2012 When you think of Chevrolet, one of the first things that comes up is the SS. The nameplate that signifies added performance on a Chevrolet model has found more than a million homes since the first SS model, the 1961 Impala SS was introduced. So it seems a bit odd that General Motors decided to trademark the SS name this year. Someone uncovered a application filled by GM on April 13 trademarking SS. So what does this mean? Well, most everyone thinks that reason why GM trademarked SS is due to it being using as a designator, and there have been rumors that a civilian version of the Caprice PPV will hit …

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com December 9, 2013 Just a couple days after Chevrolet announced that 2015 Corvette Z06 will debut at the Detroit Auto Show, the fine folks at Automobile Magazine got their hands on some new spy shots of a Z06 mule undergoing some testing. Now the pictures reveal some information that we have known about since Chevrolet showed off a teaser shot such as the enlarged brakes, the unique black multispoke wheels, and air vents on the fenders to keep the brakes cool. One item that is very notable is a raised hood, possibly bulge or scoop. A source tells Automobile that the Z06 could be packing a supercharged version of the Sting…

In light of fresh competition in the form of the refreshed Toyota Tacoma and new Honda Ridgeline, Chevrolet has announced some updates for the 2017 Colorado. First is a new 3.6L V6 producing 308 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque (up 3 horsepower and 6 pound-feet). Changes to the engine include a revised direct injection system, updated variable valve timing, and cylinder deactivation. We can't help but wonder if this is the same engine that resides in a number of Cadillac models. A new eight-speed automatic transmission is hooked up to the V6. The transmission features a higher first gear (helps with towing or hauling a heavy load) and lower rear axle ratios wil…

Last month, speculation was going around after an trademark application was filed by GM for 'Badlands' to be used on a future model. The speculation was this was going to be used on the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra as competitors to the Ford Raptor. But according to Edmunds, GM has no plans for a direct Raptor competitor. "We have a lot of priorities. Capital is not endless. That is not one of our highest priorities in terms of spending capital right now," said Mark Reuss, GM's executive vice president of global product development. Volkswagen has tainted the reputation of diesel in the U.S. So it seems a bit odd that Chevrolet is not only going ahead with offering a diesel in the upcoming Equinox, but also adding a diesel option for the Cruze. Yesterday, Chevrolet officially announced that the 2018 Cruze sedan and hatchback would come with a 1.6L turbodiesel four-cylinder. It will come with the choice of either a six-speed manual or nine-speed automatic. Official power figures are not out and Chevrolet would not confirm if this is the same engine found in the Equinox. "People who drive diesels, love diesels. And so there is a customer base there that wants to drive this type of vehicle an…

William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com March 23, 2012 Yesterday, General Motors announced they will replace the 120-volt power cords on the majority of Chevrolet Volt models the company has sold since 2010. This comes four months after a report from Yahoo Autos said Volt owners were complaining about their power cords overheating and in a few cases melting. At the time GM said the cords were safe and said the issue was the wiring of the charging outlet. GM spokesman Randal Fox says the replacement, which GM doesn't consider a recall or a safety issue, was meant to as meant to "offer a more consistent charging experience." Sometimes, less is more. At the Work Truck Show in Indianapolis today, Chevrolet unveiled a Box Delete option for their Colorado Work Truck. By removing the box (a $300 credit towards the MSRP), Chevrolet is giving fleet and commercial buyers more flexibility in their trucks. The box delete option will only be available on two-wheel drive extended cab work truck models and only with the 3.6 liter, 305 hp V6. Buyers will also be able to opt for a rear seat delete to have additional cargo capacity in the cab. By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com March 13, 2013 The current Chevrolet Impala holds the title of being the queen of the fleet market. Last year, nearly 75% of the 169,351 Impalas sold went to the fleet market (about 127,013 vehicles). With the new Chevrolet Impala just around the corner, General Motors would not like to have a repeat of that. Chevrolet marketing chief Chris Perry said yesterday at the media launch of the 2014 Impala that Chevrolet will sell the old Impala to fleets for one more year. Those fleets looking to get their hands on the 2014 model will have to wait till next year. GM's goal is to drop fleet sales of the Impala to around 30%…

Again there is talk of a CORVETTE BRAND split away from CHEVROLET and a mid Engine SUPER VETTE in the future. I think this could work if done correctly. And with KAPPA production moving to the VETTE plant in the future and a possible KAPPA-X BODY merging also it seems even more logical. With the next gen VETTE and KAPPA cars possibly related with KAPPA useing a steal frame (aka todays kappa and base vette) with I4 and V6 power and the VETTE useing a V8 and lighter more advanced aluminum frame (aka ZO6) and other high tech features it could work and cost less then two NEW UNIQUE PLATFORMS. I would hate to see CHEVY lose the VETTE but maby CORVETTE's better future would be …

Someone help me out on this one. The 2006 Impala's 3.5 V-6 (210 hp) can take E-85 gas, but not the 3.5 in the Malibu, G6. For that matter, why don't all of GM's passenger V-6 and V-8 engines at least have the option of E-85 gas? The station down the street from my office is selling 101 octane E-85 at $1.98 per gallon, as opposed to the $2.79 for low octane unleaded at the same station. GM needs to get out in front of this issue. E-85 gas helps reduce our foreign oil dependency (which multiplies American power in the world), is good for the environment and helps the American farmer. Why doesn't GM at least offer E-85 compatability as an opti…

Unique water-based ‘three-wet’ process cuts emissions on Chevrolet Sonic Link: http://www.egmcartech.com/2011/09/30/water-based-three-wet-paint-chevrolet-sonic/ General Motors has begun using a new eco-friendly paint technology on the 2012 Chevrolet Sonic. A “three-wet” paint is a water based process that takes out the drying step in between paint layers, so the vehicle only needs to go through the bake oven process once, at the end. Cutting its carbon footprint by 10 percent the Orion Assembly Center saves space and lowers energy requirements for heating and cooling. Mauricio Pincheira, Orion’s paint manger says “Cutting our greenhouse gas emissions and reduci…

6th month update for Volt 1712. Summer went by uneventfully. I continue to drive Monday - Friday gas free with bit of gas used on the weekends. So far I've traveled 5930 miles, 4170 electric and 1760 on gas (70% electric). For the 1760 gas miles the Volt used 42.5 gallons of gas for an average of 41.4 MPG. My overall mileage is 139 MPG, factoring in the cost of electricity it's roughly 89 MPGe. The bulk of gas used was for two long distance trips. One, in July, from CT to the Outer Banks of NC. That round trip was approx. 900 miles. The trip down averaged 44 MPG, the trip home 46 MPG. Those numbers include the 40 miles or so of electric miles at the beginning of …

Ok - just a random question... We've seen spy pics of the Camaro and Challenger on Detroit Area roads. Has anyone seen or been able to substantiate any chance they may share the same roads at the same time? Seeing both of them together by accident (nudge-nudge-wink-wink) would be a major buzz generator. Maybe our Detroit area C&G'ers could enlighten us?

I was in a Ford dealer this weekend. The salesman was talking up their new engines for 2011, saying he got to test drive a ecoboost V6 and of course it was the best thing ever! Any news on GM's Gen V V8's? Are they going to be introduced prior to the 2013 redesign or will GM have upgraded engines out sooner to compete with Ford's new offerings? I'm planning on upgrading my Sierra sometime but haven't been impressed enough with anything to warrant the cost.

[source: Inside Line] Chevrolet Volt's Design Director Snipes at the Aerodynamic Qualities of the Competition Date posted: 07-29-2009 DETROIT — The war of words between the creators of the Chevrolet Volt and its competition are getting ugly. In a Web chat on Tuesday on the corporate GM FastLane blog, the Volt design director accused the competition of "grossly exaggerated aero figures that are not repeatable when we test their vehicles in our tunnel." Bob Boniface, the Volt design director, did not name names. But he made the remark in response to a question by Lyle Dennis from GM-Volt.com, who mentioned that the Tesla Mod…

America's Sports Car Becomes a Global Superpower By Karl Brauer Date posted: 11-10-2005 I'm catapulting the 2006 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 between apexes on a deserted, twisting canyon road in central California, and all I can think is, "Whatever you do, don't contract that annoying 'Jeremy Clarkson' strain of Tourette's syndrome!" The risk of blurting out all manner of multisyllabic drivel is very real, and the last thing I want is an involuntary impression of Britain's Top Gear host marring my otherwise enjoyable ride. Then it happens, coming out of a smooth left-hand sweeper in 2nd gear I dip into the 7.0-liter V8's enthusiastic 470 lb-ft of torque. The 3-inch…

Most questions were offered in the following form Very likley Somewhat likley Not very likley Here are the top answers. Top Tranny at 63% 6 speed manuel: This is not a suprise with this in a performance magazine I suspect the non enthusitast will make up a good percentage of auto buyers. Would you buy IRS as an option 36% Very likely But they only want to pay $1000 If IRS was standard would you pay extra for a solid axle: Not very likely at 43% and if they did i…

Does anybody think that GM will try and push these cars out for production sooner than expected? Or have the oil companies bought them off to keep fuelies? In a recent MT or R&T mag there was a GM ad in there that made a notion about hydrogen vehicles then had a "Shell" logo on the bottom of the page also (basically showed GM and Shell as partnering up on the Hydro thing). I remember reading a Popular Mechanics back some years ago about the Autonomy and that GM had set down with Exxon originally about the hydrogen idea and going in on setting up hydrogen stations, Exxon basically said that they weren't interested and didn't think that there would ev…

Not a great way to start a day at the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky as a sinkhole opened up in the museum's Skydome area and taking with it eight Corvettes on display. According to a statement from the museum, a security company notified officials around 5:44 AM that motion detectors had gone off in the skydome. Upon arrival, it was discovered that a massive sinkhole measuring 40 feet wide and 25 to 30 feet deep. Luckily, no one was injured when the sinkhole erupted. The bad news is that eight Corvettes currently sit at the bottom of the sinkhole. The eight models are: 1993 ZR-1 Spyder on loan from General Motors 2009 ZR1 “Blue Devil” on loan f…

I have some friends I work with that have family at Lordstown and work on the G5 and Cobalts built there. One guy I work with has an uncle who does final checks and runs the new cars on a wheel dyno. Sorry I don't have all the details but from what I have been told he has been training on a new Cobalt Turbo. The only main details I could gleem are that it is much more powerful than the present SS. He also said the engine really was much the same as the Sky and Solstice just in a transvese location. I tried to confirm the 5 speed auto tansaxle but he did not comment. I did see it is set to be on the HHR SS so it should be expected. I would guess this car will s…

I was checking out GM's photo gallery of the 2013 Sonic RS, and lo and behold... it says "FLOWMASTER" on the exhaust tips. How cool izzat, I ask you? Available in Victory Red, Summit White, Cyber Gray or Black Granite, with a lowered suspension and lower gearing with the 1.4t engine, plus some sporty trim in addition to the Flowmaster setup, this thing should be a HOOT. Wish it came in Blue Topaz.

By John K. Teahen Jr. Automotive News / September 12, 2005 Chevrolet executives aren't talking much about it these days, but they nervously await each month's sales figures, hoping against hope that it still can be done. The "it" is 3 million new-car and light-truck sales in 2005. It's possible, but it will be a far reach for General Motors' top-volume division. GM is eager for Chevy to return to 3 million. So what else is new? GM is eager for every brand to sell every car and truck possible. Chevy hasn't sold 3 million cars and trucks in a year in more than a quarter of a century. The division first made it in 1972 and 19…

It's already hot at 11 a.m. as we pull our 2009 Nissan GT-R into the visitor's parking lot at GM's proving grounds in Arizona. The Japanese supercar looks like a spaceship next to the aging, 1960s-era brick buildings that front the massive desert test facility on the outskirts of Phoenix. Although the few GM employees who see the GT-R barely pay it any attention, we suspect they know why it's here. Somewhere deep inside this test facility there's a 2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 getting prepped for a comparison test, and now the competition has arrived. We make a few calls and sign a few release forms before a Cyber Gray ZR1 emerges from the main gate and pulls up next t…

Would it be possible to keep the solid rear axle and have fold-flat 3rd row seats? Envision a cargo/storage well AFTER the solid rear axle (in between the axle assembly and the rear bumper. Pretty much where the gas tank/spare wheel sits. You'd need to move the gas tanks forward (between the frame rails, towards the middle of the vehicle). This is doable. You'd need a longer filler tube, but wtf. A side benefit would be that the weight of the gasoline would be centrally located in the vehicle; helping stability (which shouldn't be a concern on a vehicle weighing 5500lbs to start with, but again, wtf). The exhaust pipe would also need special routing (off to the si…

Last week in (yet another) celebration of the arrival of the 2010 Camaro, a parade of some 40 Inferno Orange Metallic Camaros rumbled from Victory Park in Dallas to Sundance Square in Ft. Worth with a police motorcade. It was Chevrolet's first large-scale Camaro event, and hopefully it means that now we can get on to seeing them on the streets, instead of just talking about them being on the streets. You can check out some short-n-shaky video clips of the event after the jump, including some footage of a vintage Eighties Garland Police Camaro, as well as the gallery of photos below. Autoblog

GM has had a string of hits lately that demand respect, they also have had a few that are less then thrilling. Some times even a big company needs to step up and realize that bringing in an outside designer will not hurt. www.n2amotors.com This company has used the 1957, 58 & 59 chevy to build their 789, they have used the 63, 65 & 67 corvette to build the new Stinger. These are cars that Chevy could so use in bringing in individualism to drivers who want an amazing car with style. Enjoy the web site at the cars are beautiful.

We know that Chevrolet will be sending the Bolt concept car into production late next year, but there a number of items still up in the air such as what will the production model will be called. Surely Chevrolet won't keep the Bolt name as it introduces confusion with the Volt, right? Tim Mahoney, Chevrolet's marketing chief tells USA Today that Bolt is sticking around. "The decision is made. The name won't be changed,"said Mahoney Mahoney explained that while the two names do sound similar, it provides Chevrolet "an advantage." That advantage is the Bolt name "association with Chevrolet is nearly immediate,"since the Volt is a well known Chevrolet. Mahoney went onto …

Rendered: Two-Door Chevrolet Cruze Hatchback By Ed Hellwig | September 21, 2010 | Photo Illustration: Theophilus Chin Next week, the Chevrolet Cruze hatchback will make its world debut at the 2010 Paris Auto Show. It'll have four doors and likely use the same drivetrain lineup as the sedan version that's been on sale in Europe for some time now. As usual, the announcement included a note about sales of the hatchback in the U.S. Specifically, it said that there wouldn't be any sales in the U.S., at least not yet. This comes as a bit of a blow to those who see the Cruze as GM's best shot yet at a true import fighter. Sure, sedans always sell better than hatchbacks he…
