My latest option is picking up something used in the US, and bringing it back to Canada. Prices are much more reasonable even after the exchange rate, as is the selection. After driving one here, of all things an 03 or 04 Escaldade ESV (maybe EXT), mainly because of the 6.0L. Maybe a Denali XL too. Important is that the wife likes it too (although I am sure she'd take a Suburban for a lot less $$, and no 6.0L engine). The one here I drove got sold the next day. I have a coworker and my boss, both were troubled by Cavaliers and swear that they won't get another American car. How would it be possible to talk them back into a domestic? My co-worker has a '94 Cavalier (looks like a VL sedan) that dies often on her, and has now primarily drives a Mazda3. My boss has a '98 Cavalier Z24. Both of them are very unhappy about the reliability of the cars. What's worse, my boss was actually talked away from the Cobalt by her neighbour, who appears to work at GM. I've seen this case alot, too. And usually the same suspects as well: J-bodies.

I'm not sure why I didn't take more DURING the drives; maybe because I was enjoying the scenery too much. I didn't take more pictures AT the MC Nats because it was TOO hot to stand in the sun long enough to take pictures. Besides, others took pictures of the event. Award winners: http://www.montecarl…

Just a little act of homage to the old Vauxhall Chevette HS and HSR, one of my favourite rally cars while growing up. In 1977 Vauxhall commissioned development of the HS by transforming the regular 1256cc bread-and-butter Chevette into a 140bhp powerhouse with a twin-cam 2.3 litre slant-four engine mated to a 5-speed Getrag gearbox. It was a beast among hot hatchbacks in its day, but the trend from RWD to FWD in production cars and from RWD to 4WD in rally cars as the 1970's drew to a close meant its days were numbered. At the time, Opel also had their own works rally team separate from Vauxhall, racing Ascona 400's, and latterly Manta 400's. The HSR enjoyed moderat…

Good designs will often offend many people, but if your design is polarizing it means you can achieve a greater passion level for your products....'gotta have it' factor (copyrite, C/D). Now, as we look back and see the disaster that is called Chrysler, its safe to say they bet the farm on polarizing design too much, and it may be their demise. Just an idea, not sure how practical it is. Those of you more technical than me may let me know about details and what you think. Basically I was thinking about the mechanics of a hybrid and how it stores braking energy for later use. This idea does not have to necessarily be connected to a gasoline-run system. Think about a bicycle with a small electric motor integrated either into the bottom bracket (where the cranks attach) or into the rear wheel hub. A battery could be mounted on a rear rack, over the rear tire. The brakes could operate this in reverse to generate power (as in a hybrid car). You could then have some kind of throttle for a little electric boost to …

Linkity LONDON (AFP) - Troubled soul singer Amy Winehouse kicked off her 17-date tour with a shambolic performance that saw fuming fans booing and marching out, reports said Thursday. The concert at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham, was a chance for the 24-year-old to get back to singing and put her woes behind her. Winehouse has had "health issues" -- widely reported to be drug and alcohol abuse -- and her party-loving husband Blake Fielder-Civil is being held on grievous bodily harm and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice charges. But Wednesday's gig at the NIA, which can hold up to 13,000 people, was slammed by angry fans as a "disgrace" after she…

I have one. Well. Sort of. Its my demo-of-choice from the lot, a burgandy 2002 FWD Aztek with 109k on the clock. And boy do I love it. I honest-to-goodness think Pontiac made an error in judgement by settling for a cheeply-rebadged Equniox over going its own direction with a refined, improved Aztek. I say this because as lambasted as it was, the original Aztek had something to Torrent lacks - personality. And before someone makes a crack about personality being something the ugly girls have, I'll remind you the ugliness is truly only skin deep on this thing. One of the hallmarks of the Aztek is that its so ugly, its cool. There is no angle of this beast that is in any…

Last night, I priced out an HHR SS with limited slip, upgraded speaker system, and performance driver's seat There are quite a few showing up at Chevy.com's "Find a Chevy" button at area dealerships. I think I'll be doing some driving this weekend, trying to find a few of these hot little babies to ogle.

As a timberwolves fan each year it is becoming more and more hilarious how we draft others superstars and trade them away like toddler clothes you give away to the second hand store for a dollar. RAY ALLEN BRANDON ROY (roy=rookie of the year) now this year McFail gives away a promising OJ Mayo and also Chalmers. the level of humor with his deals get worse each year. How in the HELL can we get rid of him? and then trading Garnett too? my gosh.

Another quick question for the gamers here... I just picked up a free PS2 today (old style), and I'm trying to remember if these came with "bricks" or not. (My PS2 slim does) My slim seems to have an "hour" issue-sometimes it just shuts itself off after an hour, and I know the brick itself is fine.. Here's to hoping...

  79. While visiting with the owner of my local Chevy Dealer, the subject of GM's future came up. He stated that with 40% of GM dealers being closed, it will be impossible for GM not to file for BK. He stated that GM could not get enough government cash, and doesn't have enough lawyers to cover all of the potential law suits. At the end of the conversation i was in agreement with him regarding this matter. Any thoughts on this?

  81. I am currently in the process of gathering members both here and at C&G's rival site to rally against GM in light of their recent PR charade about transitioning the G8 to the Caprice. So many GM enthusiasts have begged and pleaded for Zeta's application in North America to be expanded beyond the new Chevrolet Camaro and yet GM continuously ignores us or, at best, makes promises it actually has no intention of delivering on. There was no way the "New GM' could have moved fast enough to actually determine if there was a business case for a new Chevrolet Caprice or Impala based on the Holden Commodore. GM sold so many enthusiasts and former enthusiasts an outright li…

I went to Montana and Alberta for a week over the July 4th holiday and took 6 gigs worth of pictures. The last time I was in Montana was 1997, so it had been a while and I had forgotten how wide open some parts of the state are. There is so little humidity that an 85 degree day felt really nice compared to back here. I was in Great Falls most of the time because my grandma used to live there and my grandpa was stationed at Malmstrom AFB in the 50's (called Great Falls AFB at the time). We also passed through Helena, Butte, Billings, Bozeman, Virginia City, and Nevada City. Also, we took a day trip across the border to Writing-On-Stone provincial park near Milk River…

Poked through member showcase. Congrats to everyone on the new rides. Very nice. Hope everyone is doing well, and who knows, maybe once winter comes I'll stop by a little more often. Bryce

Lets start with the Cobalt. Around the time I got the Cobalt last January I noted that there was this loud annoying rattle coming from the steering column when driving over rough road surface. Took it to the dealer and they replaced the whole steering column stating that there was a design defect with the steering column where there was excessive backlash in the electric steering gears causing the noise. They replace it, noise goes away. Heaven only knows for what reason but almost a year later the noise is back. I understand that GM is suing the supplier over the defect, but it's a pain in the ass. Also the front door panels on the Cobalt are making this annoying c…

Today my dad purchased a 2009 Impala LS in Slate Metallic, which will arrive on Thursday. It's the one I mentioned in the start of my previous thread. It's equipped much like my 2007 Impala, with Ebony Cloth buckets, OnStar, XM, Leather wheel, Folding Seat, 16" Alloys and Spoiler, but in addition this one also has Bluetooth and the now standard Dual-Zone climate control. Currently has 17000km (10500mi) on it and is less than a year since manufacture (mid-March 2009). Since it was built before the bankruptcy so this is probably the newest vehicle we'll ever have that was made by General Motors Corporation versus General Motors Company LLC. That being said there migh…

It was finally a nice day here today, so I decided to tackle a couple of small projects. I am soon getting a new door on the front of my house installed by others. I also have a side entrance door out of my garage and I wanted it to match the new front door, so I painted it from dark blue to white, added a new lockset and deadbolt, and put up a new motion-sensing light fixture above it. It looks nice and I'm proud of myself, but it took me freakin' forever. So, how handy are you guys with a hammer?

I was walking along sidewalk enjoying the sunny, warm day when I glanced over at this new Jeep Commander sitting in the disabled spot of the parking lot of a retail store. The store was for the handicapped to outfit their vehicles for their special needs. Suddenly the vehicle started and shot forward about 8 ft like a bullet...jumped over a curb and stopped against a sign. The elderly couple looking like they were 80 years old camly backed up and drove away. Now if they had been facing the store window and a pedestrian had been there, someone would have been hurt or killed. Now, it begs the question, should the elderly and disabled be tested to a higher standard than …

No, I'm not trying to convert anybody here to communism. I'm just expressing my happiness at going to school in a town full of people with more money than they know what to do with. Why? Because, there are certain people in this world, who, upon breaking one mug, decide that their entire set of dishes is now no good for them. Then I can get the whole set of dishes for $20 at the local thrift store. It even comes with a sugar bowl and creamer cup! I have no idea when I'll ever need a cup for creamer, but it certainly is nice to know I have one around.
