What Are You Reading?
by Guest YellowJacket894- 18 replies

I'm bound to get a response like "Reading f@#king sucks, man, go watch television" here, but whatever. I'm willing to take that risk. So, question is, what are you reading? I don't care if it's a novel the size of a $h!house brick, the Bible, "Car and Driver", or the side of a cereal carton, just post, up the old post count, and whistle some cheezy tune in the key of A. What am I reading? "Futility" by Morgan Robertson and "The Sun Dog" by Stephen King. Note: I feel like mentioning the novella "Futility" for one, if not a few, reasons. I'd like to point out that it was the novel that strangely foreshadowed the Titanic disaster of 1912. (The book wa…

I know that this is a nitpick, but it annoys me that the Taurus S-H-O is now the Taurus "show". Seems a juvenile change to me.

Since Camino LS6 asked, I thought I'd share with everyone some pics (14 total, plus 2 extra) of my family's muscle cars. The first post is for the blue 1969 Barracuda, the 2nd post will be the orange 1979 `Cuda, and the last two are msic images. Enjoy! Very little rust on this car at all. It does run, and was last driven in the fall, although Today I noticed there's large wet spot under the car. It's raining so I'm not sure if it's a leak or not. This Barracuda has a 340 and a manual tranny, it also has factory A/C. There's been a lot of work done to this car over the past few years. The nterior had a lot of work done to it, including the seats being reuph…

Wanted to get out of the house as it's been a boring weekend. Drove south a few miles toward Conestoga, PA, and sawr a sign for "Shenk's Mill Wildflower Preserve". Not really familiar with the area even though it's like 6 miles south of my house. Suddenly, the blacktop ended and the road turned to gravel with some decent washouts and steep down- and uphill approach and departures. I turned around at a railroad track and took a different route. It was like I dropped off the face of the earth. I lowered the window to listen for the sound of banjos... Little Patriot pulled through well. I got a little mud on 'im. It turned out to be a fun excursion.

As I've been tearing down the Golf this past week, I've found that my garage is quite inefficient for the work I'm doing. With winter temperatures, it's difficult to heat up. That entirely ancient iron wood furnace is slow to start. Just as much smoke will pour out around the door as the chimney. The first hour is spent tending to the fire as you keep the garage doors open to prevent the smoke from smothering you. Once its going strong, you close the doors, revealing a slight crack at the top of each. Another hour later, the garage will finally begin to heat up a few degrees above freezing. Without insulation and those cracked doors, that's basically all you can manag…

Of course... The Beast wouldn't be the Beast if it weren't a pain in the ass. This past week, it suddenly became much, much, much louder. Somewhere near the catalytic converter, it's either rusted through or rusted off completely. I haven't had a chance to put it up on ramps to see for sure. Peaking under, I can't really see too much. Everything is still there, it seems, however. On a noise level, it's not as loud as it would be if you just cut off the exhaust, a la demolition derby car, but its loud enough that everthing that can rattle inside, does. As well, something that's been going on a bit longer, there's this rattling coming from the rolling gear, suspension…

Finally! I've been at work but mentally away for about 2 weeks, today was finally my last day before taking a ton of time off. Looking back, I'm not sure why I bothered going in yesterday or today, but I did. Today was fantastic because we had out holiday luncheon which took up about 3 hours of my time, add to that leaving an hour early, and I'm feeling all right. Just need to get through tomorrow and Thursday and I'm off the the beach for a week.

We'll we have the start of the labor day weekend and I just realized nothing has been posted about auto's people have seen. Today I had some good views, we will start off with a car I loved, but did not fit in very well. Cadillac Station Wagon, especially loved them in V edition. Start off with seeing an old GMC pickup that some members will love, forgot as I do not think I have seen the GMC person post in a while who loved all things GMC. Saw my first in the wild Ioniq 5, love the layout, dash and it looks very roomy inside, the center arm rest is bigger than in my SS.

You don't have to be over ANY age to think this whole thing is amazing. Amazing. Even a 20 y.o. can understand that this lady, like Andrea Bocelli, has one of those "one in a hundred million" voices. I don't watch TV much. But a person in my office told was talking about what happened on "Britain's Got Talent," so I checked it out on YouTube. It was like David slinging at Goliath and winning! She's odd all right, but she's so damn comfortable in her own skin. And a voice that's in the stratosphere. I'm hoping she goes all the way. Have you been following this? Link to YouTube

Well yesterday at work we ran out of jobs to process so they had to send me and a bunch of other people home, and I had today off. My boss told me to call him this afternoon to see if there was work for Wednesday. I called and left a message. He just called me back and told me that unfortunately, our customers have no more jobs to send us.Normally there's work up until the 2nd or 3rd week of December but for whatever reason we've already gone though all of the work for the season. So I got laid off. He said I'm eligible for unemployment, and that he would send information about it with my check. He also said that I did good work and offered to put me on the call back l…

I guess when we owe them TRILLIONS of dollars, they think they can push us around ... WASHINGTON - The Defense Department charged Monday that five Chinese ships shadowed and maneuvered dangerously close to a U.S. Navy vessel in an apparent attempt to harass the American crew. Obama administration defense officials said the incident Sunday followed several days of "increasingly aggressive" acts by Chinese ships in the region. U.S. officials said a protest was to be delivered to Beijing's military attache at a Pentagon meeting Monday. The USNS Impeccable sprayed one ship with water from fire hoses to force it away. Despite the force of the water, Chinese crew member…

A buddy gave my better half some tickets, so I decided to check it out with him., last year. Did not see the flag go up and down, as we did not see the start or the finish. But we did see it on TV lol I just did not not want to deal with the rush of the crowds. I know, my bad. I got to say, I was quite impressed by the power I heard, when the cars raced by. It was incredible. I had more fun walking around the track then sitting in the bleachers. Even though, we did have pretty good seats. Well, I do not remember the name of the race, but I would go back for another. Pretty sure, I won't be invited, though. lol

What does your city / town / state use to clear the roads of snow? My state was all about salt until about 5 years ago when they began to switch to a combination of de-icer chemical and sand. It doesn't do as good of a job of clearing the roads (usually results in a slushy mess that eventually melts away when temps warm), but the combination is supposedly less harmful to vehicle paint than salt. I'm not sure how much I believe that though, because the rocker panels of my '94 Lumina have rusted far faster than my previous '90 Lumina that was mostly exposed to salt.

Found this on Ask.com. I feel like kicking the bastards who would molest such a nice '68 Firebird like this right in the balls. I don't know about you, but I am getting sick and tired of looking through a Muscle/Classic Car Trader for a car and seeing crap like that. I found a '67 Camaro and a '70 Chevelle treated the same way. It ranks right up there with some kid ricing out his grandma's Tercel. I guess it's true. Stupidity is a disease.

I decided that I want Satellite Radio. I spend a lot of time on the road or in the field, so I figure that it would be a wise investment in my future entertainment. My Suburban is XM ready so I could add that easily, and my Pioneer deck in my Impala could have either tuner and antenna added to it for about 50 bucks on ebay and an hour's worth of tinkering around in the car. You can have 2 tuners for 20 bucks a month with either service, so I would probably have one dedicated system in one of the vehicles. If I were to go with Sirius I would put a dedicated tuner in my Impala and then have a Mobile unit in my Suburban that I could take out on the lake in the summer, in…

Have you ever looked something up on Wikipedia, then like 45 minutes later you're hit about a hundred links and now you're on a completely unrelated page? Today was one of those day. I ended up on the Official state car page and started scanning through. It seems like most countries transport their heads of state in the usual suspects, BMWs, Rolls Royces, Mercedes and the like. But Brazil uses something I wouldn't have expected.

I'm also a university student who's studying in journalism and I have my own little "web-based media outlet" where I write about, you guessed it, cars. I've heard of this site many a time before, but I never really visited more than that up until I saw an incoming link from thia forum to one of my writeups on my site. Since I figure it will only be a matter of time before I have to cope with big city parking and BS, I have continued to search for a city car. I really want something that is short, wide, cheap, RWD coup and can keep up with the taxis. I considered the Smart, but it was too slow, too expensive (for what you got) and until lately, unobtainium. I've also considered Festivas and Metros, but they are too beat up for the desired price range. I thought about CJ5s or CJ7s, but most of them are also very pricey for whats out there. I also thought about doing a Frankenwagon... a GM wagon, shortened to two doors and a snub nose and the drivetrain relocated to the rear, a la Fie…

The Cutlass has been up and running since Sunday. But who cares about that? I'm sure something else had you sitting there pulling your hair over what it could be. That vehicle... in my sig... it's a lovely Mazda AZ-Wagon. You probably said to yourself "Hmm, that looks alot like the Scion xB", but it actually predates it, back to 1994. What you see if actually the latest of many facelifts on the 3rd gen. It's based on the lovely Suzuki Wagon R. I know, it must have been killing you wondering what it was.

I think about this every now and then. As for the 3800 V6 engine by Buick, once it went transversely mounted, received roller hydraulic lifters and fuel was delivered via port injection, it became one of the best engines ever. I'm closing in on 270,000 miles on the old car and still love the car and this engine. However, I also think back to a 1970 Pontiac LeMans coupe my Dad owned. He never thought much of Pontiac, until he bought this car. He loved "la Pohn-tee-ak"...and so did our Australian Shepherd. It had the 250 inline 6 with a 1-barrel car and NO air conditioning, so the engine compartment was a mechanic's dream, with every plug easily accessible and lots of …

I received a PM from a friend of mine on another forum whose family has a Toyota Tacoma (year 2005). After Rats ate his wiring twice due to Toyota coating their wires in tasty peanut oil, the Sheet metal on his truck has begun to completely disintegrate... To be fair to the guy, he's a GM/Ford truck guy and his family only bought it on the merits of the previous Toyota pickups they had had... So here's what has begun to happen to his "super duper" three year old truck (this truck has by far not been abused or even driven very hard either)...

We ought to ban Chevy, Ford and Dodge from Nascar and put Honda in instead, because obviously Honda and Toytoa are the only two groups of people who can build a decent car." This is the rant thread. Anyway, she was sitting in the office, shooting the breeze with my manager, telling him the story of how her right front corner got banged up. She was in a local mall parking lot, "when a lady driving a Lincoln Town House hit me!" We all managed to keep it together while she was with us, but when she left, we were rolling. It doesn't bother me, but it makes me perplexed as to what I emit. Most of the time, I'm in my own world and someone interrupts my silence. Just yesterday, I got asked about train routes on Portland's light rail, and I was wearing a Montreal t-shirt, for God's sake. One day, when I did live up here in the mid-90s, I got asked directions on the way to work, during my lunch hour and going home from work. THREE times in a day. The funniest: - asked for directions in Buenos Aires in November 2005 when I went to South America - asked for directions in Munich, Germany while walking through a rural suburb last month How about you? Mine start on Wednesday night and I have two others, all at night time, within a week from that because I am in an evening program. I have been burning the candle at both ends, ending up at coffee shops with my books from 11 pm to 1:30 am or so since I find myself cat-napping at weird intervals. The upside: I will be DONE with finals, and with my degree program, in less than 10 days. I think I can manage. What about you? Big finals load? Are you coping / what do you do to cope?

Coming from driver's side (he says top, I say bottom). Engine's running and we're checking it out. He pulls the throttle cable a little and engine dies and won't start again. It cranks a little, but not enough to get her going. Alternator and battery were just checked and perfectly fine.. WTF?!

I work a ridiculous amount of hours, but I also squeeze in 2 grad courses at night during the semester. Yeah, nuts is the word. Next week, on the semester system, is Spring Break so I ONLY have to go to my full-time day job. Each "book-end" weekend to the break is therefore "free." I'm going hot springing this weekend and to Las Vegas next Friday / Saturday / Sunday (I am itching for some sun and warm temperatures). Las Vegas is so relaxing ... and you can have the best time without even putting a quarter in a slot machine (poolside, Lake Mead, cheap abundant food, entertainment). What are any of you doing/where are any of you going?

Automotive News December 24, 2007 - 12:01 am ET "Bigger is better" is dead. True, that marketing philosophy has proved lucrative for the better part of a century. Americans like big cars and trucks and big powertrains to haul them. But now that Congress has passed a 35-mpg corporate average fuel economy standard, that philosophy is obsolete. Automakers must prepare consumers for some big changes. The industry must show the public what the future will look like. Vehicles will shrink, and engines won't be quite so large. But with the right mix of styling, technology and performance, marketers still can create excitement. Yes, it will force some new thinking amo…

I noticed the gap between the driver's front door and front fender is 3 4/9 millimeters wider than the gap between the passenger's front door and front fender. Also, I vacuumed out under the dash and notice the plastic panel between the firewall and back of the center stack isn't soft. Its hard. Also, when I turned the key in the ignition, I heard a very disconcerting sound coming from the front of the car. It was some sort of growling, like some sort of machinery was there. And when I started accelerating, the noise grew louder! I think I'm going to buy a Lexus. :P :CG_all:

It is hard to believe, but my nephew will be 2 years old this November. Watching him grow has been tremendously fun. My favorite story, thus far, happened earlier in June. I went to my sis/bro-in-law’s place to drop off something for my sister. I parked out front in the street and came in the side door by the driveway. As I opened the door, my nephew yelled, “Cort!” [He hasn't quite mastered "Uncle", it comes out ... "Unc ... Unc ... Unclcor"!] I heard my sister say, “How’d you know that was Uncle Cort coming in the house?” A bit later, we found out. As we were talking in the front room, my nephew walked to the front window, pointed, and said, “Cahr…Cort cahr.” …

medical site Provided by: Canadian Press Written by: Alexa Olesen, THE ASSOCIATED PRESS BEIJING - U.S.-based toy giant Mattel Inc. issued an extraordinary apology to China on Friday over the recall of Chinese-made toys, taking the blame for design flaws and saying it had recalled more lead-tainted toys than justified. The gesture by Thomas Debrowski, Mattel's executive vice-president for worldwide operations, came in a meeting with Chinese product safety chief Li Changjiang, at which Li upbraided the company for maintaining weak safety controls. "Our reputation has been damaged lately by these recalls," Debrowski told Li in a meeting at Li's office at which reporte…

I'm kinda wondering if my Playstation 2 is about the kick the bucket or something.... I have one of the old playstation 2 (the nice big ones), and it is starting to have issues. I'm currently playing NHL 2007, and it seems like the game is getting "stuck". I'll be playing, score a goal, and there will be like a 5 second delay before the horn sounds... The game itself is fine, and I tried a Nascar game too, and it will do the same thing after a while... Though I have noticed if I play hard for while (and does this with te Nascar game), it almost makes a clicking or disk jumping sound.... It has been just fine up till the last few days.... I've heard issues of d…

Didn't want to throw this into the GM Merchandise forum, since these arent readily available. But, since I was cleaning up around here and found these I thought I'd snap a couple pics and throw 'em up. I mentioned these to Cort last week. Got these in fall of '84 when the '85s came out. These were the ones on the wall at the Chevy dealer. They are fairly thick cardboard. Wanted the Vette and Camaro ones, but a salesman snagged them. So I ended up with a bunch, but these are the only two I have left. I had Chevette, Citation X-11, Astro, and Silverado ones (those that I can remember anyway). Funny part was that in '89, I bought an '85 Eurosport like this one exce…

Yesterday after chickening out from going to Carlisle, I was driving around town aimlessly, when I came to an intersection adjacent to a park next to F&M university campus, and noticed several people standing around with rainbow-colored umbrellas in the hot sunshine. Then I looked again, and saw some protesters holding huge signs reciting Bible verses and yelling things like "if you masturbate to porn, God hates you!". "What the heck is THIS?" I said to myself. So I quickly found a parking spot and approached the gate. Sure enough, it was a Gay Pride festival, right here in little old Lancaster, our first. It was just getting started at the time, but the crowd s…

Yesterday at around 2pm I helped to destroy a Honda. Wait, hear me out. I was driving the Datsun and caught this stupid red light that is pretty much useless becasue it should just be a blinking light IMO. It always stays red for like 3 minutes even though 15 sec. would be sufficient for the ONE car that is waiting to merge onto Rt.113. Anyway I slow down at the light and leave my car in Neutral since god knows how long I'd have to hold the clutch otherwise. All of a sudden this loud fart-can equiped nasty, refrigerator white 1990-93 Honda Accord pulls up next to me. He revs his motor for a sec and gives me "the look". So I'm like, sure I'm game... why not. I hold m…

I'm leaving for the great state of Texas early Thursday morning....I'll be leaving my house around 1:30AM for a 5:40AM flight out of JFK . I'll be flying Continental from JFK-IAH-SAT and back. I'm a little worried about my luggage, especially with only a 38min stop in IAH on the way there, so I may try carrying my one suitcase on. My hotel's in San Antonio, but I plan on driving to Corpus Christi, Del Rio, and a couple other places in addition to what's in SA.

Your PM inbox is full. Delete some $h! so I can send you a nasty PM. Anyways, I found this listing on ebay and I really think I'm going to go for it. I just need to find someone with an ebay account to buy it for me. How does the price compare to the quote you got, DF? I forget how much you said it was. Clicky. It'll be nice to finally get the Millenia running, whether I decide to sell it or drive it (course, it'll still need tires and brakes). Either way, this is step towards getting out of the Cutlass that I really need to take. After that, the Cutlass's fate will be decided on.

SEOUL, South Korea – North Korea boasted of being a "proud nuclear power" and threatened Monday to harm the U.S. if attacked as tensions mounted over a possible crackdown on exports of suspected missile parts from the North. President Barack Obama said the U.S. is ready to cope with "any contingencies" involving North Korea and vowed not to "reward belligerence and provocation." South Korea's YTN news network reported Sunday that a U.S. Navy destroyer tailing a North Korean ship suspected of carrying missiles and related parts was headed toward Myanmar in what could be the first test of new U.N. sanctions against the North over its recent nuclear test. The sanctions…

Hey guys: I made it! I am here. Just woke up from sleeping for about 6 hours at my cousins' house. It is hot and humid. It was a free ticket, so I had to put up with the routing. It took 37 hours of flying and FIVE segments to find available seats. The routing: 1 - Delta - Portland to Salt Lake City (Delta hub) 2 - Delta - Salt Lake City to Atlanta (Delta hub) - "red eye" 3 - Delta - Atlanta to Montreal 4 - Air France - Montreal to Paris - "red eye," they all are 5 - Air France - Paris to Florence Kid in the candy store experience: Upon arrival at the Air France check in at Montreal, I asked if my "favorite" seat on the 747 was available. It was not. I s…

Weird that I'd think of this, but there are two songs on my playlist that I think would make awesome Wedding Songs (like the song the bride/groom share the first dance with). One is "Into the Mystic" by the Wallflowers (yes, the one from American Wedding haha) and another is "Far Away" by Nickelback. What was/is/will be your wedding song? What do you think some good ones would be? Weird question, I know.

Well, I would like a reliable GM car, mainly because used imports are overated with price and are not cheap to repair. I was thinking Alero or Grand Am about 2000-02 and I know from many the Alero is a pretty good car, but I always liked the Grand Am SE a bit more, is the Grand Am any good, and if not what would you guys suggest as a good GM car, or any car really in 2000 - 02. Price is a factor. No Ford or Chrysler cars... sorry to fans of them haha.

Well it was due to come up sooner or later...another retarded has blessed the internet with one of the dumbest posts in history, and so the hilarity must be shared thought the interwebs. Ricer was street racin' yo! Going 90mph. Cop pulled him over and gave him a break by fining him for driving too slow. Ricer boy doesn't get that he got off easy, posts on the internet what he did and what happened, and that he plans to fight it. Then a cop responds to him... I am laughing my ass off! :rotflmao: x1000 http://www.orlandoforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=126522

But really, it was lame, "Fortune really helps those who are of good judgement." I want my fortune cookie to say something like "Put $500 on the Miami Heat in Game 3" or something useful like that.

Beauty machine’ makes everyone pretty Researchers say device transforms any woman's photo into model-likeness By Robert Roy Britt updated 2:31 p.m. ET, Fri., Nov. 7, 2008 Researchers have created a "beauty machine" they say can turn a woman's photo into the likeness of a cover model with the push of a button. The goal is not just to toy with pictures. Sure, the new computer software could help editors distort magazine cover photos even more than they already do. But it could also guide plastic surgeons in efforts to achieve some perceived level of perfection in a patient. Or the software might even be incorporated into future digital cameras to make us all app…

I'd like to apologize for my post the other day to you...I re-read it and it definitely came off harsher than I had remembered writing it. I also apologize for taking it too personal; that was unacceptable and out of line. I do stand by what I said regarding the anti-American comments (yes, you make quite a few of them) because that's been building for a while, yet I still should have chosen my words a bit more carefully.

Import Humper... Buys American! One of the guys I work with was telling us Friday how he was going to go out and buy a car. Told the guys on the crew that a Honda was not good enough for him and only an Acura would do. Kevin Laughed in my face when I told him he might consider domestic cars. Told me I was nuts for even thinking it. So this morning in the parking lot before work, we are all shooting the bull and drinking coffe and...Kevin rolls up in a metallic red Mustang GT convertible. Says he loves it and thanks me for suggesting American products. He told me it was really obvious American products had improved dramatically. Too bad the Camaro and Challeng…

If you've been eastbound on the Cross Bronx Expressway, you may have seen this written on a billboard: Dear Steven, I hope I have your attention. I know all about her, you dirty, sneaky, immoral, unfaithful, poorly-endowed slimeball. Everything's caught on tape. Your (soon to be ex-) wife, Emily. PS: I paid for this billboard with OUR joint bank account. As soon as I noticed that no brands, products, or services were mentioned on the billboard anywhere, I was awe-struck. But really, I have nothing else to add. This just speaks for itself. Also, scroll to the last part of this article... I had a feeling it'd make news. I'm also corrected on the exact wor…

I’m trying to make this short, but if you’ve seen even my other single posts...humor me. It’s a long time coming. For more pictures of each of my 3 new GM rides, hit the Member’s Rides Showcase HERE. If any of you remember, last year early in the summer after I had just graduated and started working officially, I posted about new car shopping. Driving my beloved ’95 Cadillac Fleetwood at the time, I thought I wanted to make a drastic change and was looking at anything from a Chevy HHR to a Honda Fit to, essentially, what I “really wanted” with another new Malibu like I had chosen for my mother earlier in the year and loved. #1: 2008 Pontiac G6 GT Coupe White Diam…
