http://jalopnik.com/5185281/study-women-more-attracted-to-men-in-expensive-cars We have a rather motley attraction of rides here at C and G, and this thread is for fun more than anything. What kind of female (or male) should be attracted to people who post here based on their ride? What kind of woman would be attracted to a guy who squirrels away 1960's Pontiacs. or collects Miatas, or drives an old Intrepid, or a Cobalt, or whatever.... This is our chance to make fun of ourselves... Who wants to fire the first shot? Chris

The Yenko Vega Stinger II. Only three known to exist. This one is valued at between $90,000 and $125,000. Originally Yenko had a turbocharger on it, but big bad EPA stepped in, and major costs involved, so Yenko offered without and customers had to buy the turbocharger in aftermarket and install it. Here's one with the Yenko Corvair Stinger:

So I was up in my attic the other day... seeing what boxes I still had for my diecast models (trying to sell some of them... will be a thread about it soon). I've been up there before, but I noticed something for the first time. Well... I'll let the picture speak for itself... Appearantly, my house caught on fire once. Couldn't have been within the past 15 years or so, though. I think I would have noticed something like that... above where my bedroom is. It just caught me off guard. But it really makes me wonder...

As car ethusiasts, have any of you ever felt bad for a car? Here's my little story: Me and a friend went to this junkyard back in the fall to get a new HVAC control module (or whatever it's called) for my Dodge Shadow cuz the original one overheated. They had a few SHadows there, so that's why we chose that place. Sometime in January the wiring harness connector overheated again, melting the module again, but money has been very tight lately, so we were stuck without heat until last moneth. Last month, some other friends and I went to the same yard to get the same part (plus a new wiring harness, turns out corrosion on the harness caused the meltdown). Some of the Shadow…

Link: http://deansgarage.com/2011/chuck-jordan-memorial%e2%80%94photos-and-handout/ On topic: pretty cool memorial service for a great man. Plenty of great classic GM vehicles and concepts, surrounded by other great GM people. Off-topic: Okay, who do you have to know to have your memorial service held there? Of course if I'm dead what good does it do (unless I come back for it in ghost form ), but I couldn't think of a better place for my memorial service than the GM Heritage Center. Of course, my favorite picture from the group.

I'm trying to type this with my left hand since my right wrist is imobilized. Made a rare trip to see a doctor today to confirm the bad news I already thought was coming my way. Right now, I can't do any of the things I usually do to make a living and am supposed to start some harsh physical therapy after "resting" my arm for several weeks. This is not in the budget. Worse, it is spring and my best chance to generate some decent level of income just evaporated. Sometimes things just suck. Sorry for not getting back to you, Olds. Been a bit fixated on this.

Over the past several days I've been thinking of intrigued's new 2012 Mustang GT Premium response in the "Any changes to your "automotive family" soon?" thread and how there is not a vehicle I currently drool over that I could afford now or next year (trust me, I drool over the 2011 GMC Sierra Denali plenty, just cannot afford a new one now or in the near future). I remember in the late '80s through the mid part of this decade always lusting over something attainable. I guess the prices today, the lack of funds and credit on my end, just make it impossible for me to lust over anything much. However, there is something I wish I could have, if offered here in the states,…

My '95 Olds 88 is getting to the point where its not only embarassing to be seen in, but miserable to drive. I need to find a good used car. * The June 2007 story grabbed my attention: 1957 Plymouth Belvedere unearthed in Tulsa OK, a Route 66 town. I know several people who were there in person. I watched it live on the internet before we left for Dad's team's softball game that Friday evening. The car has been above ground 5 years, after being under ground 50. But, hardly any news; my main 2 sources don't seem to be very up-to-date. Maybe I'm the only one curious as to what has happened or is happening to the car...? The HCCP grand finale show is today at Delaware County Community College in Media, PA. This is a huge event with cars from the brass era to today, and is laid out in tiered parking lots that are divided into categories. If you are within striking distance, you ought to make the trip. It is usually 700+ cars, and features a flea market. I'll be going at some point during the day. The event runs from now (10 AM) until about 3PM. I've already been seeing the classics cruising RT 252 on their way to the show.

I found the perfect car to replace your Olds. A 1007 Mitsubishi Galant, $99/month. Thats less than what you pay for repairs. I can look into it and get terms of the lease (I'm assuming its either a massive amount up front or insanely low mileage) if you're interested. You can be one of the few, the proud, the Galantists.

Okay, so the last time I was on, I didn't do much, but I know I responded to a PM. Then I noticed a post I had made had a broken Image link, so I hid it (as it was long since too late to edit it), and reposted with an image hosted on a trusted source that i know isn't going to break. Then, I responded to a post in the Member's Design Showcase. The kicker is, I came back today and there's no evidence any of this happened. The conversation I thought I responded to in PMs was still there, and I had left the person I was talking to hanging with his last question. The broken image link was still there, and the repost was not. The reply I made to the thread in the design secti…

-What is this today that we face in America? Many sad things, Toyota Camry best selling car in America. Al Gore writing his bull$h! global warming book, Michael Moore making fun of America in his documentary... Some America, I'll say. Old farts trading beautiful LeSabres for Prius's, people selling Montana's and getting Corolla's in this day and age anything is possible. We face people so blinded by how great hybrids are, that they have there own list of enviormental problems, like dissposing of those acid filled batteries? When we get right down to it, cheese-burgers, apple-pie and Chevy are true American icons. Tree huggers try to make us "hate" th…

The story behind the choices... He has flip-flopped multiple times on what he wants. The choices are all ones he has mentioned. The truck was first choice, it's the beauty of the truck plus the stance of the 4x4 and the 6-bolt rims that were on the 4x4. My problem is the 4x4 part is useless in Oklahoma and the maintenance of a 4x4, plus here these trucks are still going for a premium, from $9-$12,000, depending on condition. I don't want one thats too rough. The civic because the ricer thing hasn't worn off here yet. All his buddies are running around in these damn things, but they're damn expensive for the same reasons. Okay, so the wife has gone from wanting a '08 CTS or Enclave (determined out of our price range), to a VUE or an Edge (fuel concerns) to now wanting a small, fuel-efficient (plus cheap!) 4- or 5-door car. Why the change? Realizing that it cost us $50 to fill up the AURA and $65 to fill up the Envoy last Friday, she wants to get something more affordable and, more importantly, will aid in saving additional $$$ in our bank account and not spent at the gas station. We just recently test-drove the all-new 2009 Pontiac Vibe GT FWD and she likes that a lot. The Cobalt, HHR, and Astra are off her radar, and while she likes the Malibu, shewants to spend around $20-21K MSRP…

I was thinking about what I should do with the Cobalt in the near future, and it got me thinking....which do you prefer, coupe or sedan? I like how useful a sedan is (esp with a little one), but I just like driving around in a coupe (guess that's why I have two )....just something about the feel.... Even though it would be a PITA to get a carseat in the back of the Balt, I'm thinking of just sticking it out with the Cobalt and paying it off...(not too far away) Besides, she has a sedan anyways....and if I pay off the Balt early, I could have room for a few payments...... :sign0200:

The culprit... The result... I'm not going to say too much, as I'm quite tired and stressed out, but as the title suggests, my brother wrecked his truck. Pretty badly, as the pictures show. Basically, Sunday morning, he was on his way to work and fell asleep at the wheel after having gotten little sleep the previous night. He whacked a steel sign that barely budged. The result of was him needing to be life-flighted to Pittsburgh. He wasn't wearing a seatbelt, either, and as you see from the one interior pic, the steering wheel and windshield took his impact. Externally, he has a broken femur, which came through the skin; broken wrist, fa…

Nothing very exciting, and I admit I muttered 'mechanical a$$hole' after I found a few bugs, but how much can you expect from a 20-yr old truck that's been beaten & abused? 1990 Chevy, 350, 4-spd auto, 4WD, RC/SB, black, red velour interior (reeks of smoke), power windows & locks, tilt, aftermarket radio w/ 8-disc CD changer. Clock says 108K.... I dunno.... Wipers are pretty choppy (not just the blades), switching to high beams shuts the headlights OFF, plow lights don't seem to work, it's wearing wide street tires, no tailpipes- so it RUMBLES.... it is what it is, and as long as it has traction & heat, it'll make me money. And I got my special request: a fl…

I went to a screening of this movie last week. I know most people are going to dismiss it as the "gay cowboy movie", and if you can't get past one short sex scene (which doesn't show anything), you won't like it- but Michelle Williams and Anne Hathaway have nude scenes (and are quite fine), so it's something for everyone. This is a movie that makes me glad that I still on occasion work with actors. Everyone involved gives incredible performances. I never thought I'd say this, but Heath Ledger should get an Oscar. It's a great movie.

Extremely said day for anyone who has an appreciation of these old warbirds. Apparently there was a fire on engine #2 shortly after takeoff. The pilot found a field and made a successful emergency landing. Everyone on board escaped. At the time teh fire was small and it was thought the plane could be saved. However the firefighters sat and watched it burn, claiming that the ground was too soft for the trucks to drive on. This last part really aggravates me. Last time I checked, an 18 ton plane weighs more than a firetruck. yet they made a successful landing on said field. And to add insult to injury, footage shows the lazy bastards with their trucks on the field half-ass…

My Firefox has been a bitch lately. It's slower than usual and it even froze up on me earlier today. While Im not ruling this out, I highly doubt it's a virus or spyware as I'm not going to any irregular sites, just the same ones that I never had problems with even when I used IE. Now, not long ago, I did make it so I could watch videos and listen to music, but just for Youtube and Myspace. I just had some plugin installed that Mozilla's website suggested. I don't think it would have this affect on Firefox... but knowing my backwords working PC, I wouldn't doubt it. Otherwise, I don't know what could be causing Firefox to run so slow. Earlier this week, I had an "uh oh" moment on the way home. I was in the right lane of a 2-lane road and was trying to get over into the left lane. I kept checking my rearview mirror and glancing back to see if anyone was coming, but a Ford Explorer kept speeding up and slowing down such that I wasn't able to get over. In the meantime, the minivan ahead of me suddenly slammed on its brakes ... apparently because someone else had slowed down to turn right onto another street. At the time that I looked back ahead of me (I had been checking the rearview mirror), I panicked ... and hit the brakes, thinking I was going to hit the minivan. My '87 MC LS screeched to a halt …

I haven't been reading the posts here for the last few days because I have been car shopping. There are considerations in this purchase that are not necessarily automotive. So if you are in a hurry I will skip to the end and tell you that I got a 2007 HHR. If you had asked me last week if I were likely to get a new car, I would have responded no. My wife correctly pointed out that we are too old to need a new car. It is quite depressing to think that one might never get another car. It is even more depressing to think that the reason is you might not be alive to enjoy it. Some time last week she changed her mind. She is quite unhappy with her Pontiac. She though…

Yesterday my friend and I stopped at Lowell Used Auto to see if they had any Prizms in the yard that I could get the parts I needed off of: trunk lid, rear bumper cover, bumper reenforcement, and the left tail light. I was telling how how it would be nice if I could find one the same color as ours...although it'd be highly unlikely...I've never see a Crimson Cloak Mica in the junkyard before. He told me he didn't think there'd be any way I'd find one the same color and that I'd have to settle for a blue or green or white or whatever one. Which I agreed. As e walked toward the area where the GM products, including Geos, I noticed a red surrounded by Metros and stuff..…

I decided I'm going to start a video blog of what I'm doing with all of these apartments. Here's the first, rough video from today. This is one that has gotten the most changes. Four walls removed, converted to an open floor plan, getting an all new tile bath/shower and a new kitchen, refinishing the hardwood floors throughout. Plus this one has a two car garage attached.

I saw this in the just sold section on ebay... A new 2008 Camry Hybrid in Jasper Pearl with tan leather, look what he paid for it 33,500, 2K over sticker on a loaded Camry hybrid goes for 31K was this guy on crack who bought. People really would pay over sticker on an ugly boring midsizer? What kind of dumb-f*cker a-buys a Toyota and then pays more than its worth. Wasn't like it was a somewhat cool Land Cruiser or 4Runner but a Camry Hybrid give me a an f*cking break. Toyota buyers, figures. So what do you guys think? This makes me want to get a G8 GT for less and put a nasty Toyo hating and hybrid bashing bumper sticker on it... Something with the words V8 and "F*CK O…

the wiki on the "Grumman LLV" says it uses the iron duke and sits on an s-10 platform... why doesn't GM come up with an updated model with say... a 1.8L - 2.2L maybe with BAS model to replace these? I heard that the gov't has a test facility for new models on NPR. this would give GM some sure business and reduce gov't gas waste. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grumman_LLV

See the topic title; here are the pictures to reference the trailer in question: I have an idea what it was used for after doing some "brief" Internet research, but I'm not 100% positive that I'm correct. Seeing as how there's a ton of informative people here at C&G, I'd thought I'd post this question.

However not on the terms I had planned. Here goes. My brother started college in Dartmouth last fall, and wanted to come home weekends. Myself and my girlfriend agreed to make the 4 hour round trip to get him and my mother to trip to take him back. That was the agreement. What enede up happening is she was too lazy to do it herself, and we got stuck doing it every week, Fridays and Sundays until vacation. We had a talk, which she got pissy about, but in the end agreed yet again to do it 50/50. Fast forward to last week, I go with her to show her the way, but explain that my girfriend and I want to stay home, so neither one of us would join. This ment she'd drive the way…

Hey, everyone is down in the dumps here and it seems sometimes like we whine or talk politics more than we talk cars. Rules of the thread...used GM (only, no non GM) cars you'd like to own. Any car, any era. This is the thread for dreams. Chris Linky... http://www.race-cars.com/carsold/chevy/107...070395393pb.htm

I'm thinking that it will be at least a few more years before GM builds anything that I just can't resist. So, after I clear the decks and unload my current fleet of projects, I'm guessing that I'll go after at least one more "fun" car of recent vintage before a new one is likely. The thing is, I have no idea what it will be. I'm not talking about a classic or project car - just something fairly new and low-mileage that I will enjoy driving when I don't have to drive the truck. Another GTO might work, but I'm not married to that idea. So what do you think would make me grin from the used market in about a year and a half from now?

AMHERST, Mass. -- The University of Massachusetts-Amherst is planning to let a convicted terrorist give a speech at the school. A convicted domestic terrorist whose scheduled speech at the University of Massachusetts was canceled has been reinvited to campus by a faculty group against the objections of school administration. Raymond Levasseur of Waldo, Maine, a former leader of the United Freedom Front, is scheduled to speak at the university on Thursday night. The group was a violent anti-government group linked to more than 20 bombings along the east coast, including the Suffolk County courthouse back in 1976. He and two co-defendants were also acquitted of attemp…

Detroit's Midsize SUV Problem It's not just the mammoth SUVs that are suffering. The once-powerful midsize segment is also dwindling as gas prices rise and boomers age ------------- In the 1990s, NASCAR dads and soccer moms ditched their minivans for hauling kids and groceries and flocked instead to mid-sized, truck-based sport utility vehicles such as the mega-selling Ford Explorer and Chevy Trailblazer. That was great for Ford (F) and General Motors (GM), who minted money to the tune of $6,000 to $10,000 of profit per vehicle depending on incentive. But the cultural and financial tide has turned against these balky gas guzzlers much faster than any of the compan…
