http://www.autoblog.com/2007/05/18/cerberu...sler-financial/ I know it had been mentioned plenty that Cerberus would now own both Chrysler and a controlling stake in GMAC, but what's interesting is thinking about this in context of Chrysler Credit and GMAC tieups. I don't know what kind of synergies could be found (I'm not that well versed on the financial sector) but these companies are already cash cows. If they did find synergies and made a tieup, that alone could go a long way toward justifying their investment in Chrysler.

Dear 2006, I really enjoyed the Dodge Ram 3500 Cummins Diesel that the Chrysler Corporation let me borrow for a few months. It pulled around a big jeep and a bubble and I went all over America in it. I liked my butt being tosty in the heated seats, and the nav that got us lost (sometimes asking me to make U-turns with a huge trailer) and the Sirius Radio with Howard and Bubba. I wish it was still 2006 sometimes.

Forbes Article This is interesting.... It says they have discussing splitting the company for 2 months! Market Scan Analysts Scoff At Chrysler Spin-off Parmy Olson, 02.12.07, 5:35 PM ET Like someone who has resorted to digging around the back of their couch for spare change, DaimlerChrysler is in such dire need of funds that it should now spin off its loss-making Chrysler unit for the extra cash it could bring in. DaimlerChrysler (nyse: DCX - news - people ) shareholder DWS said in an interview with the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung said that Daimler, which divested part of EADS last week, should consider carving off Chrysler. Yesterday I grabbed the paper off the front porch, normally I don't bother but this time I picked it up. On the front page read "Manzi car dealership closes" Link To Artcile Clark Chrysler in the next town bought them and will start selling Dodge vehicles in addition to Chrysler and Jeep. I was there the other day...nice place but while friendly, felt like it was forced friendliness. Long story short, this dealer has been part of the community for a long time, and has offered excellent and friendly service. I took my car car there for oil changes and the fuel pump gasket. I remember going there when I was younger when my parents needed a part for our cars. These w…

Another Recall for the Grand Cherokee Chrysler is recalling 131,000 2000-2002 Jeep Grand Cherokees because of a defective engine fan. The blades on the cooling fan may fly off and injure anyone near. This is the second Grand Cherokee recall this week. On Monday, a recall for 111,600 2003-2004 GC's was issued because the front seats may catch fire. Couple that with the call for an investigation into Grand Cherokees for sudden acceleration issues and it seems like this is a pretty bad week for Jeep and their Grand Cherokee buyers. So....now Motor Trend is saying that the Chrysler Sebring isn't as bad as all the press made it out to be? Full Article: http://blogs.motortrend.com/6595321/new-cars/chrysler-sebring-pleasant-surprise/index.html Who would have thought a member of the press would admit to getting caught up in the hype of trashing "the worst car ever made", and then admitting that he might have been wrong?

I've been impressed with Chrysler's latest string of TV Ads, from Eminem to the American Revolution ad, to the "The Things We Make, Make Us" Jeep ad. Seems like they've got another winner here. I thoroughly enjoyed this one, and I agree with the whole racing versus cruising thing. Don't know why they incorporated the 200 and T&C, frankly the only thing that qualifies, once again, is the 300 (as an aside, I'm looking forward to seeing the new one once the local dealers start getting them) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hWMi75CAjjE&hd=1

Our last AKEOTD was a Chrysler-built tank powerplant, and you'd think it would be impossible to surpass a five-bank, 30-cylinder monster… but the IV-2220 airplane engine does just that. It's the very first Chrysler Hemi! The "2220" stands for its displacement in cubic inches (actually, it was 2,219.35 CI, or just over 36 liters). That's right, an engine with well over a cubic foot of displacement. Oh, but it gets even better! More than ten feet in length, hemispherical heads, aluminum block, single overhead cam, inverted-V configuration, and the power was sent to the propeller reduction gear via the middle of the crankshaft (technically, the IV-2220 was two V8s joined i…

http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/16/autoblo...er-first-w-vid/ Ron Flint, president of Hurst Performance, is quick to let you know that founder George Hurst's original intent was to make hot rods for gentlemen. It is ironic, then, that for the revived company's 50th anniversary, it has thrown its energies into a car that isn't a hot rod, and certainly isn't for gentlemen: a Dodge Viper. Leaving the heart of the beast well enough alone, Hurst merely tinkered with some oily bits, stuffed the thing with leather, and then slathered it in a hue something like a monochrome sunset. Autoblog was invited to be the first to drive the Hurst 50th Anniversary Dodge Viper, and you k…

By Roland Jones Associate editor MSNBC Time was when automakers would slap a wad of cash on a car’s hood to shift it off a dealer’s lot. These days, with gasoline prices climbing to new record highs almost daily, they’re slapping down a can of gas instead. With the summer driving season just around the corner, Chrysler recently launched its “Let’s Refuel America” program — an offer that caps the price of gasoline at $2.99 a gallon for three years for people who buy or lease new vehicles from the maker of Dodge and Jeep vehicles. The automaker, which was acquired last year by private equity firm Cerberus Capital Management for $7.4 billion, said this week that th…

Bob Nardelli Laments The Loss Of Chrysler William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com October 3, 2011 Former Chrysler CEO, Bob Nardelli isn't happy with Obama Administation still to this day. Speaking with The Detroit News, Nardelli had some interesting thoughts about Chrysler. Nardelli says he "laments all the time" that private equity firm Cerberus Capital Management LP, who he still works for, isn't running the pentastar. "If the government gave us the deal they gave Fiat, we'd be doing just fine — really. There was no reason for the government to give Chrysler away," Nardelli said. Bribery Exposed in DCX Investigation DaimlerChrysler AG has hired former FBI director Louis Freeh to serve as an outside monitor as it nears the end of a two-year internal investigation that has uncovered multiple instances of bribery by company employees, according to people familiar with the situation. The massive internal investigation found employees at the automaker's Mercedes division bribed officials in Asia, Africa and Eastern Europe, the people said. The bribery allegations, brought to light in 2004 by company whistle-blowers, also are the focus of a civil investigation by the Securities and Exchange Commission and a criminal probe by the Justice Department. …

I actually saw a 2008 Caliber SRT4 today, and was reasonably impressed. I think it falls into the same category as the SRT4 based on the Neon for me, I don't "mind" the base vehicle, but the SRT4 package on either is almost a different car to me. It didn't seem outrageously expensive, just over the $25,000 mark, it was a heckuva "bang for the buck" deal for someone.... it was on a car lot but it was already sold. I wonder if it was an ordered car, it was the first one I have ever seen. The hood wasn't just a single scoop in the middle, I thought the single hood scoop was what they were getting? Cool little interior too!

Can Chrysler survive? The frailest of Detroit's automakers has been in private hands for a year. CEO Bob Nardelli badly needs a hit if the company is to endure. The Illness When the U.S. economy catches a cold, Detroit gets pneumonia, or so the old saying used to go. These days it's double pneumonia, and the business is on life support. Besides being caught in a cyclical downturn brought on by the subprime lending crisis, the U.S. auto industry is going through a secular transformation caused by the spike in oil prices. Goodbye, high-profit pickups and SUVs; hello, breakeven (or worse) small cars. All of the old Big Three are suffering, but none like Chrysler. …

Didn't see this posted anywhere, so I thought I would post it as a new topic. The front and rear restylings look great (especially that new grille), but I still wonder how well the restyled ends will gel with the carried over middle section. None of these teaser shots really give you any idea of how the entire car will look (which I guess is the point). Looks promising so far, though. http://www.autoweek.com/news.cms?newsId=103235 Sharp car, I've always loved the exterior styling and design, as well as the well-crafterd interior. I wish Chrysler would use this and Airflite styling on all its vehicles, Pacifica and Town & Country included. My family friend just got a red 2004 coupe recently, he loves it. If I were to buy a 2-seater, this would be it, hands down.

CAW expects to go on strike at DaimlerChrysler

TORONTO (Reuters) - The Canadian Auto Workers union says it expects to go on strike over job cuts at DaimlerChrysler Canada as bargaining positions harden heading into talks on a new three-year contract. The CAW chose DaimlerChrysler Canada on Wednesday as its next target in contract negotiations with the Big Three North American automakers. It reached a deal with Ford Motor Co. on a new three-year deal earlier this week. "Based on the current position that they have tabled with us, there is absolutely no way to avoid a strike," CAW president Buzz Hargrove said at a news conference. "If I was making a prediction today, we will be on the picket line, f…

Here is the latest from Autoblog on the Challangers price. Autoblog.com: One of our readers pointed us to this page over at Dodge's website that contradicted our earlier post about the 2008 Challenger SRT-8's pricing, which was originally announced at $37,995 (including the $675 destination charge). We realize that inflation is a cruel mistress, but a bump in the sticker to $40,095 left us scratching our heads. A few emails back and forth between the people at Chrysler revealed that the SRT-8 was slapped with a $2100 gas-guzzler penalty that accounted for the discrepancy in price. Not a real surprise considering the 425 hp 6.1-liter HEMI V8. As a comparison, however, t…

Here is what info Dodge released and was posted on Autoblog As we revealed a few days ago, the first Dodge Challengers to go on sale will only be 2008 SRT8 models. Today we've learned that those 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8s will carry an MSRP of $37,995 (including $675 for destination) and that dealers will begin taking orders for them as early as December 3rd. That's next Monday, people. If you were expecting to have the whole month of December to convince your domestic partner that a Challenger is much more important than Christmas presents, the deadline for that convincing argument has just been moved up. The 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 will be available in three co…

Challenger Production Not Definite Yet It should be noted Edmunds stole my title idea. Bastards. Anyway, Chevy's not the only one who's holding off on a firm decision on making a popular concept a production reality. DCX has stated that contrary to rumors of the opposite, Dodge has not taken a stand on reviving the Challenger. They say they are still evaluating the business case and the car has not received the official green light. Put your tongues back in your mouths for now, Mopar guys. Here are my findings: Charger SE - $22.995 Advantages over 300: ABS w/brake assist AutoStick 5-speed Traction Control Stability Control 3.5l V6 300 Base - $24.200 Advantages over Charger SE: Power driver's seat  Are you kidding me? Why would you buy a base 300 over a Charger? Chrysler needs to learn how to price cars. Rather, no, they don't, because this makes the Dodge a cheaper, better-looking, better value.

As you may have already have heard VW will be getting minivans from Chrysler or DCX as some may say. Well, I have heard a rumor that VW will try to increase its revenue in NA by outsourcing its platform to Chrysler Group. This is very interesting news if true. Remember that the Ford 500 is based on the Volvo S80 and the Ford Fusion is based off the Volvo S60. Also, remember that the Saab 9-3 & Opel is the basis from which the Epsilon came from. So, if the Jetta & Passat platforms are leased out to DCX for Chrysler Group. The Jetta may form the basis for the next gen Stratus/Sebring after the Galant based one is replaced. The Passat could be transformed into a Ford…

A Dodge Polo? Only in America VW and Chrysler talk about partnership for small car Jason Stein Harald Hamprecht Automotive News / January 23, 2006 - 6:00 am Chrysler’s US muscle brand Dodge could get a new entry-level car for North America – based on the Volkswagen Polo. Chrysler, the North American division of DaimlerChrysler, wants a small-segment car in the US to better react to the trend toward small, fuel-efficient vehicles there. The two companies finalized a deal at the Detroit auto show earlier this month for Chrysler group to build a US-market minivan for VW in 2008. I don't know if this has been confirmed or discussed much yet today but while I was going to the W.P. Chrysler Museum today, I got lost at the tech center. While we were trying to find the Museum again, we drove by a holding lot of their test cars I believe and what comes to my attention, a lime green Chery A1 sitting with all of the other Chryslers. However, I saw at least one or two more sitting there so Chrysler is indeed testing the possiblities. It doesn't appear they want to hide the car as there was no camo and and lime green stands out in a sea of silver and black cars. Also I saw a new Challenger today going north on I-75 between Squirrel road and Crooks Rd.

http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/5411/aspena9ad.jpg Okay-looking, a bit square in front, and only necessary because Jeep screwed up by not making the ugly, boxy Commander full-size. I don't see the need for a Chrysler SUV above Pacifica-only if Imperial became a luxury marque and offered a full-lineup, and then only would I find it acceptable. Basically, it looks like it will compete with GMC Yukon and to a lesser extent, the Mercury Mountaineer.

Chrysler Cans B & C-Segments Vehicles William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com April 21, 2011 Back in 2009, Sergio Marchionne presented a eight-hour powerpoint presentation detailing the next five years of products for Chrysler. On one of those slides, Chrysler had a B-Segment vehicle due out in 2013 and a C-Segment car due out in 2012. However those two vehicles looked they have been shelved. Olivier Francois, Chrysler president speaking with Car & Driver at New York Auto Show said the B-Segment Chrysler car is dead. The plan was to do a rebadge job with a Lancia Ypsilon. However, the Ypsilon is related closely with the Fiat 500 and …

Chrysler employee offers set the stage as automakers scramble for a strong finish to '05. It's a good time to buy a new car if you didn't take advantage of the industry's employee-discounts-for all deals last summer. Automakers are hiking rebates again and dealers are touting special year-end sales with an advertising blitz to ratchet up December sales and boost yearly results during the final days of 2005. In Metro Detroit, select consumers can lease a sport utility vehicle for as low as $58 a month and about $1,000 down. After blistering summer sales fueled by employee-style discounts for all comers, General Motors Corp. and other a…

While the bigger boys across town keep slipping, Chrysler's hanging tough with Asian rivals in the market share wars. And LaSorda's team plans to launch 10 new vehicles this year, a "product onslaught" that he sa…

http://detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?A...UTO01/602090391 While I will give Chrysler credit for being profitable and gaining market share, could they be sprouting a leak? They do seem to have some fairly exciting new products coming (I like the Caliber, Nitro and some of the things coming from Jeep), but you have to wonder if they can keep up the momentum.

Chrysler Confident in Minivans, Market Soccer moms and dads, take note: Rumors of the minivan's death have been greatly exaggerated. The automaker will offer a peek at its 2008 Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Caravan at the 2007 North American International Auto Show at Cobo Hall in just a few weeks. Chrysler Considering Closing Up Delaware Plant DaimlerChrysler AG's Chrysler Group will tap executives from its German parent's Mercedes division to study restructuring moves, including the potential closure of an auto assembly plant, the Wall Street Journal reported Friday. The company also plans to seek longer-term relationships with its suppliers as part of a sweeping new cost-cutting effort, the Journal reported, citing people familiar with the matter. The initiative aims to cut $1,000 in costs from each of the vehicles Chrysler produces - a goal that, if reached, could save billions of dollars, according to the paper. Chrysler Coupons: The Incentives Just Keep Coming AUBURN HILLS -- In a bid to end a difficult year on a strong note, the Chrysler Group has launched a massive direct mail campaign targeting more than 3 million Dodge, Jeep and Chrysler owners and consumers who drive competing brands. The Auburn Hills-based division of DaimlerChrysler AG is mailing coupons worth $1,000 to consumers that can be used in combination with existing incentives on many 2006 and 2007 model year vehicles. Despite slow sales, Crossfire will be back in 2008 By BRADFORD WERNLE | Link to Original Article @ AutoWeek | Updated: 07/02/07, 8:49 am et DETROIT - The Chrysler Crossfire - once a dramatic symbol of the promised synergies in the DaimlerChrysler merger, a marriage of German technology and American style - has become a bargain bin sports car. That merger is ending with the sale of Chrysler to Cerberus Capital Management, but the Crossfire will soldier on. The 2008 model goes into production this summer, adding a tire pressure monitoring system and other minor changes. In 2006, Crossfire orders were suspended because of slow sales. Chrysler Cuts Will Bind It More to Benz Deeper integration on tap as Daimler tries to fix Chrysler. by Joseph Szczesny (2007-02-05) DaimlerChrysler intends to tie together the company's German and American wings more tightly than ever under the new plan for reviving the fortunes of the ailing Chrysler Group. The Financial Times reported the rescue plan would include greater use of common components and systems by both the Chrysler Group and Mercedes-Benz Group. The use of common components has been a contentious issue since the merger was first proposed in 1998 but it has gradually become more acceptable as both groups have faced intense cost pressures. Chrysler deal with Getrag reportedly dead Posted Oct 19th 2008 9:31AM Link to Auto Blog Things were just starting to look up for Chrysler's upcoming powertrains. The Phoenix V6 will hopefully return competitiveness to the engine bays of Pentastar vehicles, and a dual-clutch automated manual transmission joint venture with Getrag was nearly off the ground before both companies started shoving lawyers at each other. A joint venture plant has been built in Indiana, but the deal fell apart over money for tooling. Chrysler's shot a lawsuit at Getrag, alleging that the transmission specialist hasn't ponied up for tooling and equipment to build the gearboxes. For its part, …

Chrysler Dealers Still Loaded with 2006s Chrysler, and all the brands contained within, is not experiencing the typical surge in dealer orders for model year 2007 vehicles that's typical for this time of year. Chrysler deals lose big buzz Fewer taking advantage of automaker's employee discounts Josee Valcourt / The Detroit News Link to original article @ DetNews.com The revival of employee discounts for all by DaimlerChrysler AG's Chrysler Group isn't shaping up to be quite the megahit it was last year, when Chrysler, Ford Motor Co. and General Motors Corp. sparked a frenzy of summer car and truck sales by offering employee prices to everybody. Chrysler dealers say it's too soon to call the campaign a hit or a miss, but note that consumer response has been mixed compared with last summer, when buyers flooded showrooms to take advantage of what appeared to be a once-in-a-li…

Chrysler Design Done with the 'Edge' Going Organic Posted Sep 2nd 2008 9:32AM AutoBlog Link to Article Link to Hi-Res Gallery of ecoVoyager concept Trevor Creed resigned from the position of Chrysler's head of design, and as of today is succeeded by Ralph Gilles, the man who designed the 300C. Since every change at the top comes with a "new sheriff in town" speech -- or at least one-liner -- this is what Gilles had to say: "It's definitely time for a new aesthetic at Chrysler. ... We're done with the 'edge' look." Gilles says he wants the Pentastar's cars to look more "organic." This being art, however, that could really mean anything. For concrete exampl…

Despite a recent profit rebound, Chrysler will continue to cut costs to offset rising raw material and health care expenses and is not ruling out a reduction in its white-collar workforce, a top company official said Wednesday. "There's going to be no massive hiring, that's for sure," Tom LaSorda, the newly-named chief executive of Chrysler, said in a meeting with reporters at the automaker's Auburn Hills headquarters. The Auburn Hills unit of DaimlerChrysler expects to reduce some costs as white-collar employees retire and are backfilled with younger workers at lower pay grades. Some positions may be left open, but employment is expected…

Chrysler dropping AWD on Avenger, Sebring and Caliber Posted Oct 20th 2008 9:27AM Link to AutoBlog If you didn't know all-wheel drive was an available option for the Dodge Avenger, Chrysler Sebring and Dodge Caliber, you're not alone. Only 1.5% of Avenger buyers checked the AWD option box, and the Sebring take rate was an abysmal .7%. The Caliber fared only slightly better at 4.4% for the 2008 model, but that's not nearly enough to keep Chrysler from canceling the option for the 2009 model year. AWD was fast becoming a mainstream option when those models were being developed, but the ability to move all four wheels at once drives down fuel economy. The MSRP goes up,…
