My brother is a moron who can't spend money properly. So he bought a $h!ty VW Cabriolet from 1990 with busted mechanicals for a grand. He didn't even change the oil that sat in the car for nearly a decade and the water pump didn't function. So naturally, he nearly died while driving it. Because he's an idiot. I decided to find him something that would run properly, and reliable. The fringe benefit is that his pathetic sack of organs won't end up in anyone else's body. I'm doing the public a favour. So I found this: Clean, inside and out, with about 150,000kms (~95,000 miles). It's a 1993 EX-L, so it's loaded and has a sunroof. Best of all, it …

  14. gonna pick up the new (and i do mean new) car either late tonight or Friday noon. they gotta bring it back from IOWAY. I love my Aztek, gonna miss it, but it was time. 113,600 or so. Decided not to expend a few thousand on all the things it needed or should have in the next 12 months to ensure it would be worth keeping another 2-3 years. Didn't want to chance the tranny up and giving out since its been temperamental and foreshadowing its demise. And it turns out got a decent amount on trade for it as well. We rode it hard and put it away wet. When i subtracted what I am getting from it for what I paid, it was 12,900 dollars spent for 113,600 +/- miles. I don't t…

So my plans for today were pretty much canceled, and since it was actually pretty nice out (50 degrees) I took the opportunity to give the cars a good interior cleaning, and my car a much needed washing. Enjoy! Up first is the GM. The steering wheel and driver's door have been really dirty since the day we bought the car. Finally, I spent the time cleaning the surfaces of the interior. Makes a huge difference I think.

  25. I'll explain what I mean by "homecoming." Never did I think I'd drive my car across the international border between the stare of New York and province of Ontario, with a destination of Toronto. I was a little on edge, given that Toronto has grown so much since I last drove in it. I knew my way around Vancouver fairly well, even with the growth. I wonder if border agents have heard the explanation that, in addition to visiting Toronto, someone wanted to take their car to "see" its "birthplace." Well, being in Toronto means being a little more than 30 minutes from Oshawa, the lauded GM plant at which my car was built. In addition to seeing Toronto, I thought I'd …

I have often remarked on the fact that though I have owned many cars, I have never owned a Corvette or a convertible. Some of you have probably heard me joke that someday I might have to combine the two. Well, about a decade or so ago I left a note in a mailbox at a house where a Corvette convertible had long been siting in the driveway under a tarp. Never heard a word about it. Eventually, the car disappeared and I wondered what became of it. So, a few days ago I get a phone call... It's the owner of the Vette wondering if I might still be interested! We are negotiating.

The horn sounds like a dying moose. Hence the name. So my wife and I were facing a choice of putting an engine in her Lumina (camshaft broke from cam bearing wear when it had an intake gasket failure, long before we bought it), or buying something else. The car lot absolved us of responsibility to pay off the note (we only owed $1800) and we took our cash and picked up a Suburban. Now we aren't stuffing four kids in a back seat which isn't even comfortable for three. Now we can put the noisy rowdy 5- and 7-year old kids in the third seat under the very loud rear AC unit, put the babies and the older quieter 12-year old kid in the middle seat, and my wife and I can si…

So... I have a broken '70 Catalina 4 door hardtop. I picked it up about 10 years ago as a parts car, for its drivetrain. It was hit pretty hard in the front... but I still drove it home. I was surprised by how nice the interior/body was, and didn't have the heart to part it out immediately. The engine/tranny is still coming out, though. A little bit later I got a '70 Bonneville parts car... it was a rustbucket, and it was promptly disassembled. While looking at the two cars, it was obvious I could fix at least one car from the two. The major problem with the Catalina is the front frame horns... so I saved the horns from the Bonneville, in case I was going to attemp…

No issues with the 2011 and great mileage for the most part, little to no wear either. Still drum solid and tight after all the miles, and the 3.0L continued to be buttery smooth. Really her only complaints stemmed from a lack of HVAC in the rear and abnormal amounts of road noise that started to build with age, throughout the cabin on highway trips. By 30k, other than some dirt, the Michelin tires still looked barely touched and it was about due for th…

It's been a number of years now but I have had two S10's and two Rangers through the years. So why a Canyon you ask? Well, I decided I wanted a truck for towing the camper and full size, while very nice, just didn't suit our needs. It doesn't fit in the garage and would be hard to get around when parked in the driveway. I did really want the 3.0L Duramax, though, so I gave it some serious thought. Here's our 1973 Monte Carlo. My father inherited it from my grandfather when he passed away. It's been in the family since new. It's chocolate brown with a tan vinyl inside. And it's got a 454 with 84K original miles. The body and paint are still in great shape, but it needs a little work to be roadworthy. Most of that we did this weekend - fabricating new brake lines and changing out the carburetor. All it needs is a set of tires and valid NYS plates and she'll be on the road again. And in case you guys didn't realize that I'm an Italian from New York, check out the clear plastic seat covers:

The photography isn't the best. I meant to take these in more daylight but washing it turned out to be an all day job. It was a dirty little Beast. Also, I really need to upgrade to a better camera. The annoying auto-focus and inability to take a non-blurry picture in low light is beginning to get on my nerves. Also, yes, next time I take pictures of the Cutlass with the lights on, I should probably make sure they all light up first.

So today we finally got the other door on. We also put the horn back on it and painted the rockers. Not professional, but still a big improvement and a cheap and quick way to make it look decent until the real work is done. And here's the old door. Had it inspected after we did the work. Somehow it passed emissions, but more importantly it passed safety without a problem. Good times.

A not so great pic of my Avi, a Christmas present from the hubby, and his red short wide. The bike was new, but it's been traded for an '07 GSXR 600. I'll get a better pic of my baby when the weather clears up.

  71. Well a few months ago I decided to do a little dress up on my grille and add some much needed fog lights. So I decided to do a poor man's billet grille and used 3M chrome body side molding to create the updated grille and then mounted my new oval ( grille shaped) fog lights in the grille. At night the reflection off the chrome and front bumper lights up the grille R which I love. Anyway sorry for the huge pics and bad quality of the photos but my camera is over 10 years old...lol Hope you like the look. BTW I took these photos at a local Buick, Pontiac, GMC dealer just so the Riv was among family when showing off it's new look. These last 2 shots are…

Yup... It's time for some pics of the GA. I took them about a month ago. I just washed, waxed, and shined it up before I took them. Now for the basic rundown... It's a Spruce green matallic coupe with the 150hp Quad4 and 5spd. It's stock for the most part except for a few things. Currently, though, the headgaskets leak and it ticks. Nothing too serious as it is runable, just have to check the oil for water quite often and keep a close eye on the gauges. Other than that and the need for a new paint job, it's in excellent condition. It has 118,000 miles. I bought it around New Year's and I paid $1000 for it. The very few mods include: Clarion …

  75. Hey gang: Long time no post. I'm glad to see that a lot of the same names are still here. I was going to post an extended review of my car on its 8th birthday and didn't get around to it. So, now I'll post the update slightly after its 8.5th birthday. My 2008 LaCrosse, which I bought after a lot of vetting on this forum between it and other W-body stablemates of the same year, has been a good car. I can say that I am happy with the purchase. It now (only) has between 50,000 and 60,000 miles, largely because of using public transit or renting cars. The best feature about the LaCrosse is how it feels like a true to form Buick, with its very good build quali…

While I'm at it, I should update you guys on what Josh drives. Having done the switch between his Civic, Tiburon, and Outlook, he decided he didn't really need the extra space of a massive Lambda. Back in March, he traded it in for his first new car, one that is decidedly smaller. As you can see, he bought a 2013 Chevrolet Sonic LT. He decided to buy one with the 1.8L and 5spd manual. Options include the 16" wheels and fog light package, as well as the Mylink premium audio system. After 10k miles, he's pretty happy with it, though not as happy as he could be. He's had to have it in to the dealership 3 times for warranty work thus far. First two times for a faulty c…

A local junkyard has a wrecked 1988 Cadillac Brougham with a supposedly good 307 for $375. The engine in my LeSabre runs fantastically for what it is. It burns/leaks oil and has a rod knock, but it keeps going and going and going. Someday, its going to quit going, I've accepted that. But if I can grab essentially the same engine, tear it down, make sure everything is copacetic, and reassemble it, how difficult would it be to yank the old motor and drop the "new" one? I'm most worried about transmission (THM200-4R, shouldn't be a problem) and emissions devices. We dont have smog testing in this part of the state, so would bypassing all that crap be an option? This …

  81. My friend recently acquired a 1991 Camaro 1LE from his dad and he is trying to restore it back to factory specs now. The 383 currently in it will be removed and sold off while the original 305 will be dropped back in. However, the 305 needs rebuilding and apparently the 1LE (performance package) motors were tuned differently and sealed differently in Van Nuys. Anyways, the R7U was a special code for 32 Camaro 1LEs that year to be converted slightly to racing spec to compete in the Canadian Player's Challenge Series. I am trying to find out any other information for him as he wants to put the roll cage back in it, needs the side exhaust of the R7Us again, and he plans to g…

My wife bought this last week. One one of the last 05 V6 AWD Vues in Canada. Has the nice 17" tires too. Only option was the MP3 player. Very, very smooth Honda 3.5L DOHC V6. Sounds awesome too. First tank of gas got great mileage 8.7L per 100km or in english that means 26.9 US MPG (or 32.4 CDN mpg) City driving too. Can't wait to break it in a let her loose! :P Fastest FWD based SUV in the market---well 2nd fastest thanks to that 269hp RAV4  :AH-HA_wink: No real complaints--the window switches are placed oddly, no hatch release on the FOB (I don't think there is an interior one either) and the interior could be a bit better. Tinted windows and 3m rock guard for the nose. The dealer won't tind drivers and front passneger door--have to get tha done at a tint shop. I might get a GMPP intake later. I was getting tired of the rush hour commute in the 5 speed and with a kid now--4 doors seemed right. I wish they made a S/C 4 door auto! Or maybe the upcoming Turbo with 6 speed auto..... Car handles great--but def slower then the 5 speed--oh well--I am sure it can beat a Mazda 3/Ralliart ect (its automatic equalivalints) Taking it rea…

  88. Well it was D-day for me today as I picked up my newest edition to my fleet, my son and I went to pick it up around 1:00 today and he has been detailing it and waxing it up until now. Well he took it down to the park and shot a few for everyone on C&G, aside of being louder than the 3400 in my 2001 and having tighter steering and firmer ride it is a very similar car. It is sportier though and my son agrees, Monday I have to get new plates for it, I have only put three miles on it. My son can't wait to get a crack at it on the open road, he really likes it way more than the 2001 and frankly so do I. It is amazing what a few small things can do to a good car a great car…

  95. This car was bought to teach my daughters how to drive in however . . . Marie (named after her first and original owner) was a rare find. In 1984 Grandma Marie's (not mine) 1968 Chevy was rusting out and was in need of many repairs. She drove to the local Chevrolet Dealer with Grandpa to get a new Chevrolet only to find ones that had more luxury features than she wanted to deal with, so she ordered Marie just the way she wanted her; 4-cyl. (Iron Duke), 4 speed manual, Air Conditioning and a rear defroster. Over the next 20 years Marie was driven 259k miles without a single major part replacement, including her clutch plate, engine, starter, steering rack, etc. Her fi…

It is 2 items away from being the Regal I'd be completely happy with. #1 is the color is green instead of the preferred black and #2 is that it is alas an LSE as opposed to the GSE. That supercharged Buick engine is something I've always dreamed of being able to afford. Considering I'm a 22 y/o broke as Hell college student (well that is until May 4th when I finally graduate!) I am quite pleased with it. Also my last car was a 2-door 1997 Buick Skylark Limited that I was v…

Ridiculous incentives made it possible for a great deal, and we totally loved our 2018. Sorry GM but your GM Card top off was not much extra incentive. 20 INCH wheels on a van? Thank you STELLANTIS.

First time I've ever put that many miles on a vehicle. Bought it new in July, '00. Been very reliable. Anyone else have any mileage milestones recently? Rob
