Toyotas. Yes I said it. Something interesting about Toyotas. It's a database of all the paint codes used throughout a model's lifespan. Yeah, it's a nerdy obsession. I wish I could find a website like this for other manufactures. A complaint: Why are all the cars looking riced? Just make 'em look normal. In any case, here's the link: Toyota Reference

Here we go again. My final project was due today to be set up in the art gallery. As always, my project came down to the wire and I showed up at 3:30 (you could come in as early as 9am). This is all well and find, although I had to run around to get a computer for my video and other good stuff. Anyway, It's about 4:15 when my cell phone rings, and Jessica is frantic on the phone. I'm too tired to go into details (running on 3 hours of sleep since 8:30 this morning), so I'll go into details later but apparently some f@#king retarded asshole piece of $h! in a `97 Pathfinder ran a red light and T-boned my mom in the T&C going like 30mph. I haven't seen i…

Please discuss your opinions.... it is basically a new version of the Bible for Goths and for the whole green movement... I don't really know if care one way or the other about this, but hey this guy is just jumping on the bandwagon about the whole environmental friendly stuff with everyone else I bet these versions will probably sell. They even have pretty pictures in these books. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.p...toryId=97537385

Is anyone here knowledgable on buying a car out of state? Alot of the vehicles I've been looking at have been in a state outside of PA. I haven't found much of anything locally. In all likelihood, I'm going to end up with something out of state unless I find a sudden streak of luck. Thusly, I was wondering what the process was for buying out of state and getting it registered here. Does it differ much from the usual registration process? Are there any extra steps that I will need to take?

Enterprise Rent-A-Car delivered a Saturn Outlook to the dealership shop after the check-engine light appeared and the engine quit running. The problem? Enterprise records showed zero oil changes after 30,000 miles. Brutal results below. As you might expect, going 30,000 miles without an oil change is not a recommended break-in procedure, and as a result the engine oil completely broke down turning into a thick greasy sludge. After finding this mess, technicians contacted Enterprise to see if their records showed any oil changes, which they did not, though it's suspected at some point at least one change was done as the factory oil filter has been replaced. Of course, th…

So it's been raining since what seems like forever...I think Friday night. It's really grinding my gears. In the past week I've gone to start the Prizm and twice it wouldn't start. First time was corrosion all over teh negative connector and terminal (non on the new positive one). Cleaned it up and life was good until the 2nd time. Cleaned it some more and put some grease on it. Seemed fine until i went to run an errand this morning and it did the same thing. So, while there's a break in the rain, I go and have another look at this terminal connector. Turns out it too has cracked and is ready to break. Lovely. So since I need the car for today, I take the GM and get a…

Say if someone calls you up, deliberately disguises their phone number and voice using an app for a jailbroken iPhone, and then threatens you with the following, just to name a few things said: "I'm going to put a gun in your mouth and blow your fucking brains out if you don't apologize." "I'm going to wreck all of your fucking cars and burn your house down." "I'm going to kill you right in front of your parents." You probably do have the means to apply for a restraining order, correct?

Just this sunday, I was at LAX (Los Angeles International Airport) when I noticed a couple guys taking pictures (with some pretty high end equipment) outside the Delta Airlines check-in counter. So... my curiosity made me stop and take a look at what they could possibly be shooting. What do I see? A big African American (trying to be PC instead of just saying "black") dude, two women in their 30's-40's, and a younger girl with platinum blonde hair and a big hat. Turns out the girl is Ashlee Simpson with a bodygaurd etc. The only reason I recognized Ashlee is because I had seen her on the Larry King show the night before, and noticed the really blo…

I actually found this on myspace and laughed my ass off at its absurdity. Especially #8. 1. Homosexuality is not natural, much like eyeglasses, polyester, and birth control. 2. Heterosexual marriages are valid because they produce children. Infertile couples and old people can't legally get married because the world needs more children. 3. Obviously, gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children. 4. Straight marriage will be less meaningful if Gay marriage is allowed, since Britney Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage was meaningful. 5. Heterosexual marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed …

Paulie! That's who! Happy birthday! I thought NOS would be a little young this time around, so I convinced Chris to be the nude guy in the birthday cake instead. Ofcourse... he wants big $$$ to do it and to make sure that his identity will be kept a secret, so he will either be wearing something to hide his face or be going by a different name. Remember, he's not Chris Doane. Also, I have sold my brother to some creepy old guy that with a little boy fetish to pay for it... So enjoy him, damnit!

The last month has been intense at work...pushing hard to meet deadlines...had the quarterly production install Friday night (pulled an all nighter that night). It's been exhausting, 4 60+ hr weeks in a row...and I don't see it letting up soon, as we are chronically understaffed--the department has lost a net of 6 people in the last 6 months, but the upcoming quarters still have a lot of work to be done, and they seem to be under a hiring freeze (cheap bastards, considering they are one of the few big banks that's profitable). To make matters worse, on Thursday (was a bank holiday for me), my team lead dropped dead of a heart attack at 34 while at cricket practice. …

Last night I was involved in a pretty bad accident. I lost control of my car after being cut off by another driver and ended up swerving off the road before hitting a telephone pole. I was with a friend of mine and luckily, she was fine. I was banged up a bit by the impact, but I'll be fine. The car (my IS), was totaled. I know how lucky I am to have walked away, but I can't seem to shake this depression it's put me in. It's the second accident in under 4 months that the car's been involved in, so insurance is a mess and I likely won't be able to replace the car anytime soon. I've had a rough year, so this latest incident just adds to everything.

For Kettering University (formerly GMI Engineering & Management Institute). I can't wait. GM, Ford, and DCX will be there along with other companies you've probably never heard of. See the list HERE. I'm bringing plenty of resumes and reference sheets along with two photoshops (original versus rendered images on each). One to show my creativity and ideas, the other to show my ability to work as a part of a team to accomplish a goal (Doane knows what's up). So.. wish me luck!

Reading various posts around the board today, I realized that there are a lot of posters on the board that remind me of the Uncle Rico character. He was always dreaming of 1982 and wishing he could go back. I think some people here live in 1965 or 1985 or whatever year they want GM to be in again.

Okay, so I haven't checked on my favorite '87 Pontiac Grand Prix LE since the fall (maybe October?). And the dealership it is at - remember, this car is the dealer owner's personal car - lost both its franchises (Pontiac in '09 and Cadillac just recently in late 2010 or very early 2011). The building is now marked as an AC Delco repair facility though it looks emptier than before. I've been curious if his collection of cars was still in existence, namely my favorite Pontiac. So Friday night on the way home I stopped by to do a quick check. I was disappointed to see it missing from its parking spot inside the garage; however, I know the owner takes it out on nice weath…

Fairfield County Deputy Gary Hummel said Thursday the undergarments were found in trees and on hillsides in several spots this week on a road in Berne Township, about 30 miles southeast of Columbus. He says some of the panties were still folded the way they'd come in packaging, while others appeared to have been worn. There were nearly 1,700 pairs in all…

I have finally bought myself a decent laptop. After advertising $500 off throughout this holiday season (and receiving some holiday cash), I decided to bite the bullet and buy a Lenovo Y400. For $750, I got a 3rd gen Intel Core i7, 8GB of ram, 1TB of hard drive, and a NVIDIA GeForce GT650M graphics card. It also has a few luxuries I was looking for such as a backlit keyboard, decent speakers (JBL... though, I've never been impressed with any laptop's built in sound, so we'll see), and a metal cover. Here's to hoping it meets all my needs and wants once it arrives. I can't imagine it wouldn't, besides the twisted functionality of Windows 8, anyways. If you consider that I'…

Another sleepless night and I'm paging through a car brochure, this time the full-line prestige 1974 Buick brochure. In the case of the LeSabre and Century models, a 455 CID V8 option was available, interestingly enough with a 2V carburetor (the 4V version was also available, of course). And dual exhausts were available on this 2V option (single exhaust was apparently standard). AFAIK, this was the only year that the Buick 455 came with a 2V carb. Another interesting twist is that the ratings for the 2V version show higher peak torque (at a lower RPM) than any of the 4V versions. Fascinating. I'll try to scan the good stuff and post it here (if anyone's interested, tha…

http://www.cnn.com/2007/AUTOS/06/06/why_hy...suvs/index.html gas used = miles/mpg inverse proportional relationship is getting attention! Over 15,000 miles, 16.5 mpg = 909 gallons used. 20 mpg = 750 gallons used. 3.5 mpg difference = 159 gallons saved. To save as much on a car, 26 mpg = 577 gallons used. 36 mpg = 418 gallons used 10 mpg difference = 159 gallons saved. The relationship is inversely proportional, a hyperbola. gallons used = miles/miles per gallon y = k/x mpg improvements on low mpg vehicles are much more significant than mpg improvements on high mpg vehicles. aka "diminishing returns" if you're mathphobic.

There comes a time when every paint job has reached the end of its natural life. Assuming you care about these kinds of things, what do you do? Wrap it or paint it? When it comes down to it your costs will be about even so it’s really a question of preference. If you’re looking a truly unique pattern or finish (like the sticker bomb wrap above) then wrapping s the way to go but nothing beats paint for durability. So, lay or spray? Weigh in here and we’ll let you know the results next week.

After a piece on this here just posted, C&D did an instrumented test on what may very well be the exact same car. Here's the link for those who want to check it out- C&D IS200 Test The review and impressions were very similar. The car has a base price of $42,945. As-tested was $47,235. So let's imagine you're buying a premium/lux sedan in the 43-48K range. Rules- 1) Car must be a 2016 or 2017 MY on sale now. 2) Must be a 4 door body style. I will allow a hatch/wagon. 3) Must be a sport-lux/premium/sport sedan of some sort. 4) MSRP MUST be at least $43,000, but no more than $48,000.

So, I just finished hell week at school, (In case you're wondering, It is possible to get 7 hours of sleep over a 72 hour period and survive) and I am just a little bit bored today... I was looking at the GM logo, where I realized that it looks absolutely ancient. Research has showed me that the last time it was updated was in 1999 (I think) where they converted the original 1967 logo, glossed it over a bit, and slapped it on the letterhead. I think that with the volt coming out in 2010, and the vastly different corporate image GM is after, a new logo is necessary. I made these 2 earlier today. What do you think? Make some of your own too!

So im finishing up my last english class of high school, and we're working on alot of shirt stories, most of them pretty boring. Our latest one is "The Lottery" by Shirley Jackson. I love it! it has the craziest plot twist, and contrasts a "civilized" small american town with the barbarian nature that embodies every american, and holds a message that we ignore violence and suffering until it personally affects us. ive read it a few times, and everytime i read it i discover more symbolism, and im usually not this much into English stories. Anyone read it? if your interested its not that long. The Lottery

(CNN) -- Super Bowl fans in Tucson, Arizona, caught a different kind of show during Sunday's big game. Just as Cardinals' superstar Larry Fitzgerald watched himself sprint into the end zone on the stadium's Jumbotron during Sunday's Super Bowl, 10 seconds of eye-popping pornographic imagery "flashed" across the screens of those watching at home. "We are mortified by last evening's Super Bowl interruption, and deeply apologize to our customers for the inappropriate programming," Comcast Cable said in a written statement. "Our initial investigation suggests this was an isolated malicious act," the statement added. Comcast, and several local television stations that …

There's only one "NOS" that comes in 20 oz. sizes — the energy drink. Forum troll or honest-to-goodness recollection of an epic failure? You decide. Finally, heading back north again for a little more "stuff" under/in the G8--the new Pedders struts & shocks that were late last time I was up in May and that will finally compliment the drop springs in 'ole G8. I was thinking about the so-called crossovers I dig (*those that are basically semi-tall cars and don't remotely look like SUVs)...those one could easily lower and drive like a sedan, wagon (which the thing basically is) or fastback. I see my faves going in this order: 1. Ford Flex-great for family, hanging out with the bros, or a complete date (if you know what I mean!)...looks are cool and inspiring. And it's all-American (sans D3 platform originiating with Volvo) 2. Infiniti EX-it's basically a G35/37 hatch. Just find a way to lower it and it's on. 3. Toyota Venza-yeah, it's partially based on the evil Camry, but I love the exterior. Looks like another gre…

This one is easy for me ... and it should be no surprise. The 1976 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme coupe...preferably in Brougham (loose cushion seating) or Salon (tall reclining buckets) trim. I'm still confining myself to one car for my answer if I say that the 1975 version was also a very attractive car, but the 1976 was a leap forward with the absence of fender sculpting and rectangular headlamps. Wow. 1976 - one of the better poses for this car, and everyone fell in love (credit to Classic Oldsmobile.com) 1975 - my favorite color at top of photo, but it needed a white vinyl top; nice tan swivel-out buckets at bottom LH suited to the rust exterior (credit to Mclel…

...I have two issues to discuss: :) 1. I've been using Firefox for quite some time now and haven't recorded a single problem since I began. However...lately I've begun getting pop-ups from Internet Explorer, even though I haven't used it since Firefox was installed. I haven't deleted IE from my computer yet, so is it time to do so? It's been wonderfully problem-free and seemingly unnaffected by age, regular use, or the programs I've installed (especially in contrast with my sister's Gateway). However, lately…

Whenever I'm off from school and work terms, I tend to slack off a lot, even when I have a lot of crap that I need to sort out. But I can't seem to focus on the right things, either start slacking off on the net, playing games, or watching TV series on my computer. How do you keep yourself focused on work at hand??

Cell phone ban urged for teen drivers Transportation officials say phone use and inexperience on road do not mix when it comes to teens. September 21, 2005: 7:02 AM EDT WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Banning teenagers from using cell phones or other wireless devices while learning to drive should be a national auto safety priority, say U.S. transportation safety officials. The National Transportation Safety Board put the proposed restriction on its "most wanted" list of safety improvements for the upcoming year, which also includes older appeals for more states to impose limits on teens' night driving and carrying of passengers. "Learning to drive and being …

So, I'm watching Fox News right now and Deepak Kalpoe was busted on tape as admitting he had sex with Natalie as well as his brother Satish and he also stated Joran Van der Sloot did as well. I've said it all along, they were the three that killed her. Will we see justice or arrests from this new information now? What are you thoughts on this subject with it being a story that is in news standards very old?

The first electrical appliance turns 100 years old November 16, 2005 It came after the electric light and before radio, television, microwave ovens, blenders, juicers, computers - indeed, it was the first electrical appliance to populate the home and one of only a handful of devices in history to achieve ubiquity in advanced nations. Interestingly, although it turns 100 years old this year, it can still be found in more than 90% of American homes. As the first electrical appliance, this also means we are now celebrating 100 years of electrical appliances. Oh, and by the way, can you guess what it is? Now toast is not new, first having become common about 5,000 years…

Went to the local pick and pull with my son, Joel and his friend to get a few minor parts for friend's Nissan. In the yard... Porsche 944, clean, in the re-builder section, fairly minor left side damage...but hurt just enough I wouldn't want it. CRX, rebuild able, but in the parts section. 1959 Chevy 4 door post, rusty rocker panels but all there and fairly straight, faded original paint (red) they wanted $1400 for the whole car... Red Cavi Z24 ragtop, parked with the top down, kind O sad... A Miata...first time I've seen a Miata in pick and pull... a 66 GMC 1 ton 2WD long bed, looked like it had been carefully restored a long time ago and then started a long slow …

I have a neighbor who just made an automotive purchase that made me stop and think. He bought a late 70s/early 80s VW Rabbit. But not just any Rabbit, a Rabbit diesel. The car itself is in very good shape since it came from the southwest, but that isn't the kicker. The kicker is the mileage he's getting with this thing. 52 MPG Even better, he brews his own bio-diesel at a cost of .47/gal. Somehow, I think the rest of us lost something along the way from the late 70s to 2011. Made me stop and think.

Back when the tsunami engulfed a portion of Japan's industrial base, we heard that some paint pigments that are produced there would be in very short supply. The lasting effects of that disaster are evident on car lots across America, as metallic black is disappearing as a color choice, replaced by good old regular black. Ford's "Tuxedo Black" appears to have vanished, and GM's "Black Granite" seems nowhere to be found. Today I saw a line of "Black" 2012 Escapes, and James Bond's newly leased Regal will be "Onyx Black", which I believe is GM's version of the tried-and-true. I've seen some 2012 metallic black vehicles, but it is evident there are much fewer of them on …

Into a... The Ram got a bit irritating both as a vehicle and in the mileage department (14.5mpg average over 280mi). Early impressions of this Freestyle are that its roomy, very comfortable, puts out respectable performance, and gives a nice view of the road without being perched too high. Nissan needs to reverse engineer this CVT because its surprisingly smoooooth and graceful in performance, not curiously 'hunting' like the Murano. Designwise, like a depressed Taurus wagon, but not too bad at all. On a humorous note, the guy I always deal with at Enterprise mentioned he also had two Sonatas and then quickly said, "But I wouldn't do that to you guys. Those things are…

OK, this thread is based on what repair bills for this stuff costs ...we've seen where ABS bills can go. With Series III 3800s came electronic throttle control; thus, there is NO accelerator cable. Now, VVT is on board...reading about it indicates it's somewhat complex and it runs on a powerful microprocessor. Even more interesting/foreboding is DOD/AFM which is available on the 3.9 V6s and on the 5.3 V8s. I'm sorry, but I'd rather do without most of this stuff, but I think I will have to get used to it. At least, I can buy-in after it's been around for about 3 years. What are your thoughts?

So after looking for work since September I've finally got a part-time job delivering for a local Pizza place. I have to say, so far I like it. I mean, I get paid to drive...pretty sweet. Anyway, I decided to to use the Shadow since the Prizm was blocked by another car and I don't really want to use the Intrepid for this kinda thing. So I get to work and start making deliveries, I'd made my first 2 and then was asked to deliver two more orders. Up until now the cars had been running fine...a little noisy (it now has an exhaust leak, after 18 years with it's original exhaust system), but otherwise fine. My first delivery took me to Market Basket, where customer service …

The L WORD, a show on SHOWTIME about Lesbians. It's pretty much is a dumb show. The storylines and dialogue and dumb as heck (ok, not dumb, just overdone)and are merely needed as a part to set up the real story. Which is to have a show on TV with chicks kissing. So since I just got satellite and a big ass plasma TV, of course (and because its on like ALL THE TIME) I find myself watching it. I watch it to watch women make out, and that's about it. Just curious if there is any sort of outside opinions on whether you think the show sucks, is good, or otherwise. Most showtime orgiinal shows are pretty lame anyways. Or maybe, the story is fine, its just the acting…

Flybrian's Random Car Showcase Presents... The 1969 Buick Century Cruiser Through boredom and...well, just boredom, I bring you the fourth in likely many little 'diaries' of a completely random car. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Looking back, the most engaging aspect of Detroit's golden age was not horsepower, luxury, or even styling. It was the fanciful imagination that guided designers and dreamers in producing their concept cars. The term of the day, however, was dream car and appropriately so. This was a time was technology flowed from the labs into our lives with such ease and successive rapidity that the future seemed but a few short years away. And since our wildest d…

Automotive News January 7, 2008 - 12:01 am ET Isn't this a wonderful time of year? Although the holidays are over and spring is still a long way off, there's a natural exuberance in the air. It's bowl time. And even though the Bowl Championship Series determines the official No. 1 college football team in the nation, frenzied fans of every winning team — sporting body paint, donning ill-fitting clothing in their school colors and shouting "We're number one, we're number one!" — can't resist the urge to make exaggerated claims and boast a little. It's like that in the auto industry, too. Bragging rights are important to car guys and their fans. There have bee…

Question for C&Gers. How do you personally define being a man? Just read an interesting book about boys which had as a Thesis that boys today lack positive male role models and have trouble defining what it means to be a man. The book got me thinking. So: How do you define being a man? To our younger members-do you find a lack of older men that you look up to? Do you agree or disagree with the idea that there are few positive male role models? Do you think todays definition of manhood is different than your fathers? To our gay members-a serious question-how do young gay teens/young gay adults adjust to manhood? Do you think manhood is defined differentl…

This is a short film that showed in 1959.. I heard it on the radio this morning and it's just absolutely hilarious how ridiculous their views were back then on homosexuality. This isn't being posted to offend anybody, but rather to look at a completely different culture from 50 years ago and how they viewed this "sickness." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fi0HbrhM2hg&NR=1

As I noted, there has been an addition made to our driveway. I've posted about this car in particular a while back, while my friend was trying to sell it. Long story short, he no longer has a place to keep it. We have a big yard with lots of room... What's one more? Thus, it's technically not ours. Since he was unsuccessful in selling it, he sort of wants to fix it up and get it back on the road. It runs about as well as the Cutlass, perhaps a bit better, but isn't in nearly as good of condition. If we can get it to pass inspection (it atleast needs brakes), this might help my situation, effectively giving me another car to drive around in. This is a big "IF", however. …

So I bought an 04 Bonneville for the girlfriend to get around in. Her old car was nearing the end and I got a hell of a deal on this car that was out in Boise. It seemed to be pretty well optioned and I never saw a picture of it, just knew it was in decent shape, had 65K on it, and was white and that was enough for me. So I fly out to Boise to drive it back. When I get there, to my suprise it has hub caps on it. I was over it pretty quickly and figured I would throw a nice set of 17s on it and call it good. Well the girlfriend hates how aftermarket it is going to look with most of the rims I've found for a decent price and wants something stock on it. So I thoug…

Yup, it's August... the "dog days" of summer. What have you seen out on the roads? This afternoon on the way home from a BBQ at my bro's house, I stopped at his local Chevy/Buick/Pontiac store. Aside from the really cool Stryker Blue '09 G8 GT they had, they also had 3 '09 Delta cars, two Cobalts and a G5... the Pontiac in Silver Green, a color I've been wanting to see for months. I feared there'd be too much blue in it, making it a sort of sickly teal color, but my fears were unfounded, imo. It's a goodlooking color, imo, and dark enough to show off the chrome exterior trim package that's available on Cobalts. For the last few weeks, I've been thinking an '09 Cob…

So, a couple of weeks ago I am surfing the interweb, and do my normal Craigslist through Google searches for various things, like parts for the '57 Buick, a '34 Airflow, or my continued quest for a Berlinetta Camaro with V-8 and T-tops. Imagine my suprise when I locate one close by me, and the price is just were I need it to be ($500!!!). So I do the e-mail to the seller and I hear nothing until yesterday (two weeks!!) She had some details about the car (needs painted) and that it is missing a t-top panel (dropped it) and that it runs and drives. All important Digital dash is installed and working!!! (only 800 were made with the digital dash in '86) here are the p…

Bankrupt Circuit City Stores Inc., the nation's second-biggest consumer electronics retailer, said Friday it failed to find a buyer and will liquidate its 567 U.S. stores. The closures could send another 30,000 people into the ranks of the unemployed. "This is the only possible path for our company," James A. Marcum, acting chief executive, said in a statement. "We are extremely disappointed by this outcome." The company had been seeking a buyer or a deal to refinance its debt, but the hobbled credit market and consumer worries proved insurmountable. The liquidation of Circuit City is the latest fallout from the worst holiday shopping season in four decases. People …
