Here is what info Dodge released and was posted on Autoblog As we revealed a few days ago, the first Dodge Challengers to go on sale will only be 2008 SRT8 models. Today we've learned that those 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8s will carry an MSRP of $37,995 (including $675 for destination) and that dealers will begin taking orders for them as early as December 3rd. That's next Monday, people. If you were expecting to have the whole month of December to convince your domestic partner that a Challenger is much more important than Christmas presents, the deadline for that convincing argument has just been moved up. The 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 will be available in three co…

Chrysler considering dropping Mopar, Chrysler Transport Link to Original Article @ LeftLaneNews In an effort to get Chrysler's financial situation on the right track, the automaker has proposed dropping non-core assets in recent United Auto Worker contract talks. Chrysler has proposed shutting down or selling its high-performance parts division, Mopar, as well as Chrysler Transport, the division responsible for managing deliveries of supplies to Chrysler plants. According to Automotive News, the UAW opposes the divestments as Mopar and Chrysler Transport employ about 1,300 workers. It remains unclear if the divestments will remain as part of the final agreement.

Actaully don't have any specs on it. One review of the regualar Dakota said "Don't be surprised to see the 5.7L HEMI in the R/T", but I'm guessing they would save the 5.7L HEMI for the SRT-8......or would they use the 6.1L HEMI for the SRT-8??? 425 HP??? EDIT: Added the press kit.

Reviews: 2008 Dodge Avenger Avenger will compete in a tough market segment, going up against leaders like the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord, as well as the newly-improved Malibu . It will be a tough fight. The new sedan may slip in a few categories, but it definitely stands out on the design front. And for many potential buyers, we think that will more than overcome its shortfalls. The Car Connection --- For all its newness, the Avenger assumes much the same place in the automotive sky as the Stratus. It's got some style and it's got some space, but this Dodge is built to a price, and you can tell when you put it next to a Honda Accord, Nissan Altima or Toyota Cam…

Edmunds Full Test Dude! Dodge is making that?" "Huh?" "That thing you're driving. It's a Dodge?" "Yup. A Nitro." And so it goes with the 2007 Dodge Nitro, which, in R/T trim, is perhaps the most striking midsize SUV sold today. We drove Dodge's latest creation from L.A. to Vegas and back and fielded more questions, confused gawks and outright stares than the last Lamborghini we drove home. People in L.A. and Vegas know Lambos, but they've never seen anything quite like Dodge's stubby, flared-fender, fat-tired creation. It's the proportions that get the attention and, ultimately, make the look work. The high waistline with huge wheels and a wide stance covered by agg…

On my short ride from the yard to here, it seemed tight, no rattles (@10k) and the CVT seemed fine in town....I'm going to fill up the gas tank, get a read on mileage in mixed use and update you guys when I've had more seat time....

By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com January 18, 2013 When the next Chrysler 200 is introduced in 2014, its design will signal a change for the brand. “The current Chryslers on the road today certainly don’t reflect where we’re headed. What I can safely say is we are deviating from where we are today, completely. It’s a very different feeling (and) look," said Chrysler chief designer, Ralph Gilles. Gilles didn't go into detail about the direction the styling will go for the 200 and ultimately the Chrysler brand. “Saad (Chehab, Chrysler brand president and CEO) and Sergio (Marchionne, Chrysler CEO) both were very instrumental in finding the new mission…

Well according to Autoblog these vehicles are going away very shortly, the next round may include the Commander. I personally love the Magnum wagon, especially in SRT form. I think the Pacifica is a great vehicle, why didn't they market it as a crossover or give it the subtle makeover it needs? I guess we will never find out. http://www.autoblog.com/2007/10/31/chrysle...ifica-pt-cruis/

CNN Story Jeep unveils two compact SUVs Though they are officially "concept" vehicles, the Patriot and Compass could see production soon. September 12, 2005: 12:54 PM EDT NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Jeep unveiled two concept vehicles at the Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany today that, a company executive said, hint at a worldwide portfolio expansion for the off-road brand. While both vehicles are relatively compact, with roughly 104-inch wheelbases, they offer distinct personalities. The Jeep Patriot has the tough, off-road appearance for which Jeep is known. The Jeep Compass concept has a softer, more wagon-like look. The company boasts of the high fuel-e…

There is speculation in the greater Toronto media, starting yesterday, that Mississauga, Ontario based parts supplier Magna is looking at buying Chrysler. The reaction in the lunch room here was largely that people would consider Chrysler again, if it were Canadian, and especially if it were based in the GTA (greater Toronto). What would your reaction be to a Canadian owned Chrysler? How would the UAW respond?

Ok, so these two are old, very old. The Backpack was a 1995 concept that was, frankly, cool. Almost useless (c'mon, a pickup with a 3ft bed?) but totally cool. Should have been produced just for the sake of producing it. The Expresso (wikipedia lists it as a Plymouth, the website the pics come from says its a Chrysler), on the other hand, should have had a coathanger abortion before the public could be subjected to it. Just a couple random Plymouth concepts from back in the day.

Chrysler is celebrating Earth Day today by unveiling the first four of what will be a fleet of 250 battery powered minivans for the US Postal Service. The U.S.P.S. will be using the vans for variety of duties at locations around the country – including daily home delivery. The vans themselves are based on the concept Town and Country EV that was unveiled last Fall by Chrysler. However, because of the duty cycle used by the Postal Service – which generally amounts to only about 18-20 miles per day on a fixed route – these vehicles are being built without the range extender seen on the concept. However, the electric drive portion of the vehicles, including the motor, elec…

The automaker announced on Wednesday it would take the somewhat unusual step of adding a third shift to its Belvidere, Illinois, assembly plant, adding approximately 1,000 new jobs starting in July. Dodge sold about 11,000 Calibers in April, and the company expects a similar strong showing for the Compass, which goes on sale this summer, followed by the Patriot …

Chrysler has launched a marketing campaign that has put thousands of adds in newspapers across the country and a new website that thanks America for helping them through this tough time. America has responded to Chryslers adds. The site is here. The majority of the 70+ comments deride Chrysler and their management. The accuse the company of stealing from the American public. That was the very first post. Nice. There were a few positive posts, but they didn't exactly applaud Chrysler or say they were happy with the bailout. I think the bigger concern is with the backlash this bailout is having. I have heard many people echo the sentiments in these…

DCX Considering Chrysler Group Sale? DaimlerChrysler reported third quarter earnings today of $686 million in net profit, but its Chrysler Group division dragged down that profit margin by posting a loss of $1.47 billion, a figure that completely erased the gain of $1.24 billion made by Mercedes-Benz. During a presentation today, DaimlerChrysler CFO Bodo Uebber didn't rule out the possibility that the Chrysler Group could be sold off. While far from saying the division has a For Sale on its windshield, Uebber told reporters, "We don't exclude anything here... We will do our analysis. Second, we will talk about measures. And third, we will draw our conclusions." Read …

For Chrysler, the cornerstone of its proposed alliance with Fiat is for the Italian automaker to supply its domestic partner with smaller, more fuel efficient platforms and drivetrains. It's been assumed that the Fiat 500 would be one of the vehicles Chrysler plans to market in the U.S., but according to a the Wall Street Journal, it may have more than a subcompact up its sleeve. According to the report, Chrysler showed its (troubled) dealers the automaker's future products today in Auburn Hills, Michigan, and along with the all-new 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee and a revised Chrysler 300, a "sporty little sedan" produced by Fiat was in attendance. Chrysler's head of desig…

The deal creates a leaner company known as Chrysler Group LLC, which is not in bankruptcy protection and is free of billions in debt, 789 underperforming dealerships and burdensome labor costs that hobbled the old Chrysler LLC. There has been a lot of speculation and rumors the past year or two as to what would be the next SRT8 engine. From 6.4 to 6.7 to 7.0 and a few other "liters". There was also talk of the "392" only being available as a crate motor. I was told a couple years ago at the SEMA show that the "392" would ONLY be referred to as a "392" and NOT a "6.4", but recent documents list it as "6.4"... maybe they will still call it a "392" for the Challenger, who knows. Well, the next SRT8 engine WILL be a 6.4L SMPI engine with specs similar to the 392, more than 500 HP with similar numbers for torque. The new engine will debut in the SRT8 version of the Challenger, rumored for the 2009 m…

Two weeks ago, a good friend of mine needed a new car...quickly. He's not "car" guy, so overall performance is not a huge issue. Style, comfort, features and price are the top issues. Additionally, used cars were not an option. After a positive experience with his old 2001 Corolla, along with his sister's good (current) ownership experience with a 2002 Corolla, Toyotas are held in high esteem. He was initially fixated on a 2009 Camry...but the price was just a bit north of his $18,000 budget. So we did lots of online searching for pics of the kinds of cars he needed to be looking at. We then drove by several dealers (late on a Friday night) so he could see cars in…

What they weren't expecting is spy photographer crashing their photoshoot and bringing us our first good look at the next 200. The new 200 is a massive improvement over the current model. There is a four-door coupe roofline that appears to have been lifted from the Audi A7 or Volkswagen CC. The front looks to have a similar shape the 200 sedan, while parts of the side match up to the 700C concept. FCA is paying Tesla hundreds of millions of dollar to pool their vehicles with Tesla to avoid EU fines over emissions. Tesla put out an invitation to other automakers to use its fleet to lower their emissions totals and FCA took them up on it. Neither company released financial specifics of the deal, but it is estimated by the Financial Times to be worth hundreds of millions of dollars. Similar to California which allows manufactures with a surplus of ZEV credits to sell them to manufacturers who need them, the EU Commission allows manufacturers to pool together their fleets to avoid paying fines. Tesla makes significant money selling these credits in the US, earn…

The United Auto Workers and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles have reached a tentative labor agreement for a four-year contract the union and FCA said today. While details were not provided, the main framework of the deal is expected to mirror that of the deals made with Ford Motor Company and General Motors. Those deals include signing bonuses of at least $9,000, no changes for healthcare, and a clearer way forward for temporary employees to become permanent status. On December 4th, a council of the heads of UAW locals will meet and review the agreement and must approve it prior to sending it to members to ratify. Some media reports say that negotiators secure…

Today I was busy running errands, and the last on my list was to stop at the parts store for a tail light bulb for the Intrepid. NAPA closes early apparently (at 5pm). I sit in the parking lot and think what I should do now..and I decide I'll take a ride to Tom Manzi Dodge to ask about the blown lights on my temp gauge and part of my tach. To my disappointment, the parts and service area was also closed (at 5). I was kinda bummed, but I noticed that the showroom was still open. I decided to go in check it out. A salesman greeted me (he had kinda long hair), and asked if he could help me with anything. I told him (part of) why I came, and he said to come back tomorrow and …

Soaring Wrangler sales anchor slumping Jeep division David Aguilar | Associated Press | Link to Original Article @ DetNews DETROIT -- Apparently, the Jeep Wrangler is rugged -- and capable of hauling an entire division out of the swamp. The popular two- and four-door sport utility is coming off its best-ever May while buoying a slumping Jeep division beset by declining sales. According to Autodata Corp., Jeep sold 12,332 Wranglers in May, up 114 percent compared to the same month last year. For the year, 54,699 Wranglers have been sold, an 85 percent increase compared to last year. Strong Wrangler sales also helped fuel an overall 20 percent May sales increase for J…

Spied (again): Chrysler Sebring Convertible The Chrysler Sebring convertible has been captured in pictures (or a picture, rather) before but this is a much clearer image. What should you expect to see? Well, let's just say the Monte Carlo may no longer hold the title of "Longest, Most Pickup Trucklike Rear End on a Car". Oh, and there's another picture of the sedan. DCX Admits to Bank of Unreported Unsold Vehicles (Piggy bank...LOL?) Bracing for an anticipated third-quarter loss of $1.5 billion, and squirming under the hot spotlight of a new cost-cutting initiative, Chrysler Group now admits its vehicle stocks were higher than reported. A pool of unsold vehicles in July and August went unreported in the auto maker’s figures under a little-used practice for counting inventory, Ward’s uncovers, indicating Chrysler’s overall market picture was bleaker than the industry was led to believe. Soaring gasoline prices and the resulting negative impact on pickup and SUV deliveries was blamed for Chrysler’s poor sales performance in the p…

Motor Trend had the chance to speak with Chrysler president and CEO Al Gardner about the upcoming crossover for the brand. Announced in Fiat Chrysler Automobile's five-year plan, the new crossover will be coming out in 2016. Gardner explained that the new crossover would be going head to head with such models as the Chevrolet Traverse and Toyota Highlander. As for the new crossover itself, Gardner said it would use a front-wheel drive platform, with the option of all-wheel drive and a V6 engine. Gardner also talked about the need to build more models off of existing platform to help maximize their investment. This leads Motor Trend to speculate that the new crossover wil…

http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Drive...icleId=107200#2 So Much Torque, So Little Track Time By Richard Homan Date posted: 09-12-2005 I still have nightmares, and I wake up laughing. Snaking, braking and shaking my head through the 2.2 miles and 11 turns of California's Laguna Seca raceway is just about the surest way I know of to keep my ADHD under control. And driving a 2006 Dodge Viper SRT-10 Coupe around Laguna Seca pretty much scares up 1,000 percent of your concentration. And to be honest, fun doesn't get any more fun than this. It's especially true that the $83,995 Viper SRT-10 can only really show off its best stuff at a track. The rest …

Dodge engineers have begun testing their four-door spin-off of the next Chrysler Sebring. Whether it will be called Stratus or Avenger is a subject of speculation, but there is no doubt that it takes its design inspiration from the Dodge Charger. Although the resemblance to its Sebring platform-mate is clear, the Dodge gets a distinct front fascia, a unique C-pillar design and - judging from the camouflage on the rear fender and door - a Charger-style rear fender arch. The prototype's taillights are also finished almost identically to those on the Charger. When viewed in profile, the new Dodge has a more formal rear window slope compared to the Sebring, which features a …

Dodge long ago confirmed that a convertible version of the Challenger was not going to happen, blaming the extreme degree to which the chassis would need stiffening if the roof were removed. Then what did members of the Michigan F-Body Association forum spot riding on a trailer around Auburn Hills, MI, home of Chrysler's headquarters? The pics don't lie, and they're telling us that Dodge did produce at least one Challenger Convertible in Lime Green that never saw the light of day. Numerous tuners have created convertible versions of the Challenger already, many of which debuted at last year's SEMA Show in Las Vegas, but an official version was never shown by Dodge. This o…

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles announced yesterday that it would be recalling 1,908,911 vehicles worldwide due to the airbags and seatbelt pre-tensioners possibly not deploying in the event of a crash. Approximately 1.4 million vehicles involved in the recall are in the U.S. In a statement released by FCA, the issue deals with a specific restraint control module and front impact sensor wiring. "The condition may occur when vehicles equipped with a particular occupant restraint control module and front impact sensor wiring of a specific design, are involved in certain collisions. If all these factors are present, there may be an increased potential for occupant injury.”…

New Ram key for Chrysler Top designer will update Dodge pickup Link to Original Article @ Detroit Free Press Ralph Gilles, one of Chrysler's top designers, went down to Texas to find inspiration for the new Dodge Ram pickup, which will go on sale next year. The Ram, a supremely important part of the Chrysler lineup, is in need of an update and faces intense competition, especially from General Motors' new Chevrolet Silverado, Toyota's new full-size Tundra and Ford, which is gearing up to launch a new F-150 next year. William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com January 13, 2012 Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne on comfirmed on Wednesday that a new Ram Dakota is being worked on. Sergio also said that there was a "better than 50 percent chance" the truck will be a unibody. Now if that seems like bad news, there is some good news. Marchionne said that diesel power in the new Dakota is a likely option. The Jeep Grand Cherokee is set to get a 3.0L turbodiesel V6 in the U.S. next year, so spreading the cost of the engine over several vehicles would be to the company’s advantage. Also rumored to get the turbodiesel is the Dodge Durango. Source: Inside Line, Ward's Auto View full…

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles' five-year plan for each of its nine core brands doesn't sound realistic to analysts. Automotive News Europe reports that analysts cannot see FCA achieving its goal of doubling or tripling sales without investing a lot of money, something FCA doesn't quite have at the moment. Analysts believe for FCA to pull this monumental plan off, they'll need to cut some brands out. “The problem is PowerPoint presentations are a lot easier than real life. These brands need a huge amount of work to get where they need to be. The world changes very slowly and you have brands at the bottom of the pile in many regions. It’s not going to happen overnight,” said H…

DCX to Produce Their Own DSG *Above pictured is Volkswagen's DSG. DaimlerChrysler has recognized the benefits of the DSG over conventional, torque converter-equipped automatics and has decided to invest $560 million in a new assembly plant in Kokomo, Indiana to manufacturer their own version of the DSG. Partnering with Getrag, the automaker plans on creating 700,000 units annually, with production set to begin in 2009. The models that stand to benefit from the new transmission are primarily front-wheel drive vehicles, including the Avenger, Sebring and all manner of minivan. Additionally, the transmission will find an ideal partner with D.C.'s new Phoenix V6 engine, w…

FCA has sent a merger proposal to Renault in what would start as an operational tie-up leading to a full merger. The proposal is a 50/50 deal that will not involve Nissan or Mitsubishi and it estimated to be worth around $33 billion. Few details have been revealed, however, Renault's board said it would issue a press release after the meeting. Rumor has it that Renault is negotiating with FCA without the approval from Nissan or Mitsubishi. If the merger does go through, it would happen over the next 12 months and the combined companies would rank 3rd in the world in terms of production, just behind Toyota and Volkswagen. One complication to the deal is the French go…

The internet went mad yesterday when spy shots of a unique 300 SRT mule was caught. The pictures - caught at an apartment complex and on the highway - show a 300 SRT sporting some wider fenders and a set of drag radials. The spy photographer notes the wheels fitted to the 300 are the same ones that Dodge was using for the early Demon mules. Behind the wheels are a set of four-piston Brembo brakes. Also, the spy photographer says the mule was making engine noises similar to the Charger/Challenger Hellcat. What could this be? It might just be an engineering mule that will likely not go into production. Another possibility is Chrysler building a Hellcat version of …

Despite slow sales, Crossfire will be back in 2008 By BRADFORD WERNLE | Link to Original Article @ AutoWeek | Updated: 07/02/07, 8:49 am et DETROIT - The Chrysler Crossfire - once a dramatic symbol of the promised synergies in the DaimlerChrysler merger, a marriage of German technology and American style - has become a bargain bin sports car. That merger is ending with the sale of Chrysler to Cerberus Capital Management, but the Crossfire will soldier on. The 2008 model goes into production this summer, adding a tire pressure monitoring system and other minor changes. In 2006, Crossfire orders were suspended because of slow sales. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles isn't out of the dog house when it comes to vehicles rolling away. A few months after issuing a recall on a number of models equipped with the stubby transmission lever for rolling away, NHTSA is investigating models equipped with the rotary knob gear selector for the same problem. The investigation is looking at the 2013–2016 Ram 1500 and the 2014–2016 Dodge Durango which have the rotary knob selector. NHTSA has gotten 43 complaints about these models moving away. Out of the 43 complaints, 25 have resulted in crashes and another 9 resulted in injuries. NHTSA also says that 34 complaints said the vehicle was moving while in park. FCA sa…

I just picked up my new company car.....a 2006 Liberty Sport 4X4 with a 6-speed MANUAL transmission.....surely a rare bird these days. MSRP - $26,400. I looked at everything (in my company's price range) from an Equinox, Escape, Tucson/Sportage twins, RAV4, CR-V, etc. I chose the Jeep because ultimately, I wanted something a bit more than a "cute ute" because I do occasionally do some light off-roading when we go to the desert, and I also want to be a…

While the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee wowed the crowds in New York, what lies beneath could be a key to Chrysler's recovery. The new 3.6-liter V6, called Pentastar after the company's five-pointed-star logo, replaces seven – count 'em, seven – of Chrysler's aging engines, and stands as the outcome of several years of development. The all-aluminum DOHC Pentastar V6, as applied in the new Jeep, offers a 33% increase in power and 11% improvement in the torque department over the engine it replaces, for a husky 280 horsepower and 260 lb-ft -- all while returning 11% better fuel economy and helping Chrysler trim its overall, range-wide CAFE emissions by two miles per gallon by …

A day after Consumer Reports released their annual reliability survey which saw four Chrysler brands; Dodge, Fiat, Jeep, Ram finish at the bottom, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles' Quality Chief has stepped down. Doug Betts, FCA's 51-year-old head of quality has "left the company to pursue other interests,"according to a statement released yesterday. Betts joined Chrysler back in 2007, defecting from Nissan. Chrysler declined to comment on why Betts left when asked by Automotive News, but sources say Betts had the tendency to speak his mind. This irked FCA's CEO Sergio Marchionne a lot.
