I'm doing a relocation investigation trip right now to ATL and Florida. I made it a point to spend 3 days in the Panhandle on the Gulf. It's pointless to think about living there in terms of career and sophistication, because it offers not much else than a stunning seashore. Now, if I didn't have to work.... In the U.S., I'd live somewhere on the water on the Gulf of Mexico near Pensacola FL In Europe, I'd live in a small coastal village in Northern Portugal What about other C&G-ers, if work and school and other obligations weren't a concern?

Where do you live, give some pictures and baout your town if ya want. I live in Deadwood, SD. The elevation here is 4,550 feet on average. Although it does rapidly slop upward to a peak of 7,076 feet (terry peak). Deadwood, SD is located in the scenic historic black hills of south dakota. Some of the scenic places here in the Black Hills are Mount Rushmore(45 minutes away), and CrazyHorse sculpture. Deadwood, SD is one of the only whole towns to be named a National Historic Landmark by the Department of the Interior. Deadwood, SD and Lead, SD (where i go to school) are seperated by a gorge/gulch that is 1 mile long. Lead, SD is on average a mile high town. Deadwood, SD p…

Chargerino was a constant on the site and I hardly see him around anymore. He gave us "Word Association" - a great thread that might collapse under its own weight. So, are his parents giving him crap, is he burned out on the forum or is he mad at Croc for their sparring and/or NOS for the haunted house? Any takes on this one?

Right now? In class. Well, I've been around a bit, just under the radar I guess. Remember that thread I posted a month or two ago about my grandfather being in the hospital? Well he passed away a half hour into April 28th. Prior to that time, I had been driving about an hour to the hospital and back about two or three times a week to both see him and support the family who took the loss pretty hard. Then I missed an entire week of school last week (sans Tuesday) to be with the family and go to my grandpa's viewings and funeral. Now I'm finally back at school and catching up on the stuff I've missed. Speaking of school, I'm at the end of the fifth week of this semester…

Just what has wp been up to for so long, haven't seen any crazy early morning ramblings about his Maxx lately. Well, I happened to come across some delicious gossip over at AW forums.....this guy just won't let a grudge go.....so much so that he tries to tarnish this website's name........it's worth a chuckle I think....he even talks a little about Joshy poo [I don't see how this could continue, but it does......what's the purpose? During my October road trip, I met someone from ChevyTalk.org who was a student of my grandfather in Ames OK. During the evening conversation, he happened to mention he used to live in Ames OK ... where my Mom and her brothers/sister/parents had once lived ... and we quickly discovered the connection, once I mentioned my grandfather's name. With that experience in mind, where all have YOU lived? I'd bet some of us are "more connected" than we think.... As for me, I've lived in Elgin all my life, except, of course, for semesters at college in N Manchester IN (near Fort Wayne) ... and a month in Nashville TN in September 1996.... Ok, I was thinking a lot about this over this Labor Day weekend. While driving out of town, I stopped at a Ford dealership along I-5 to get a brochure. Interestingly enough, a salesman who had been a mechanic in dealership service departments since 1995 approached me. I explained I was NOT from the area and I was curious to see a new Taurus up close and get a brochure on both the Taurus and the Fusion. He was very courteous and understood I was on vacation, so he did not push at all. In fact, we talked for quite a while about car mechanics - the transition from cast iron to aluminum, the 3800, the Ford Duratech, electronic throttle control, variable valve timing an…

This one is easy for me ... and it should be no surprise. The 1976 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme coupe...preferably in Brougham (loose cushion seating) or Salon (tall reclining buckets) trim. I'm still confining myself to one car for my answer if I say that the 1975 version was also a very attractive car, but the 1976 was a leap forward with the absence of fender sculpting and rectangular headlamps. Wow. 1976 - one of the better poses for this car, and everyone fell in love (credit to Classic Oldsmobile.com) 1975 - my favorite color at top of photo, but it needed a white vinyl top; nice tan swivel-out buckets at bottom LH suited to the rust exterior (credit to Mclel…

I was thinking about this again last night while I walked back to my car after picking up some groceries at Safeway. I saw a beautiful silver/black 17 inch alloy 2006-7 Monte Carlo LT. It drove off and I saw some of its good angles. I thought to myself, had there been a little more "nip and tuck" to the styling update and had there been a 3800 V6 under the hood, I would have bought one...without a doubt. I still like my Buicks very much, but I know how much I like the coupe with bigger doors, buckets, a console and more of a wrap-around driver's environment. So I say "coupe"...even though I like sedans, though not as much. Your take?

Does your viewpoint on whether or not GM should get a bailout have to do with your love for GM products or do you truly think it will be better for the automobile sector and the economy of 300+ million people? I still havent heard all the sides but im leaning to letting the private enterprise deal with its problems with private enterprise funds. What about yourself?

I was in Northern Calif. over the past weekend. I was in San Francisco one day. It is truly a beautiful city, if not one of the most beautiful in the world. One day and I start to feel claustrophobic and, after being in Europe, it's less compact than those cities, with the ability to pull over to a meter or parking spot being quite common, other than in the Financial District or by Fisherman's Wharf. I think I would tolerate the suburbs (notably Walnut Creek) better. Still expensive, the prices have come down some as it had become truly absurd and stuff wasn't selling that easily. Berkeley absolutely makes my hair stand on its ends. Any liberal college town full of …

I often drive by a L-M dealership and am able to glance at their inventory that is on the lot or in the showroom. Sometimes I actually stop in. They are a low-key dealership. They have a beautiful pearl white Lincoln MKS. They also have a silver one. From the outside, the car has got quite a stance. Most of its angles are good. I am not so sure I like the austronaut effect once inside. It has the high console just like the new Taurus. Also, once inside, you know you are in one hefty car. I think it's a very attractive vehicle, but it's way above my price point and way above the "statement" I need to make with my car - that is, if I need to make one at all. I ca…

I saw that Hurricane Kyle is headed for Nova Scotia. It's hard to fathom that a hurricane is heading for Eastern Canada when they all seem to take aim at the Gulf States. I have never been in a hurricane but know that people can move inland from one. I have been in a tornado warning. When I was in Champaign IL in grad school, one day the sky went real dark and it was an eerieness I've not seen before. We were told that a tornado was near an adjacent town and that we needed to take refuge. It did not come through. Earthquakes are the most frightening. I'm sure there are a lot of you out in C&G land who own one of these systems, and have maybe even played all of them. I'm not a real serious gamer anymore, but I would like to get back into the scene. The Wii's price and ability to play old Nintendo games is definitely a plus, but the graphics aren't even in the same ball park as the others. With a big HDTV to play on, it seems like almost a waste to not go HD. The Wii just looks like a lot of fun. The PS3 is a lot more expensive but has Bluray, which makes it justifiable. I have never played one though, so I can't compare it to the 360. From what I have played the 360, it is impressive, and the price is a l…

I was looking at the pictures people are posting, sometimes with family members. The question of similarities and dissimilarities was brought up. I thought this would be an interesting topic. I put down "blended - more father" because when I went to upstate NY to meet part of my family on Dad's side, they had never seen me and we met at a mall to guide me back to the house in their subdivision with a bunch of cul-de-sacs, they picked me out and said "you look just like a (Dad's family surname)." But, then, a few features look like those on my Mom's brothers who, unfortunately, I can't stand! What about you? Which parent do you resemble more/most?

Seeing how the Wal-Mart thread has turned out to be a Wal-Mart vs. Target thread and now has added the Warehouse shooping clubs to the mix (Costco), I thought it might be a good idea to get everyone's opinion on the three major warehouse clubs. I have two memberships - one for school-use (Sam's) and one for both personal and school-uses (BJ's). I've gone into a Costco only twice; not sure if I want to add a third membership (school pays for the Sam's and business-BJ's memberships). For those with Costco memberships, why should I get a membership? I added an "OTHER" category, just in case there's a club that's not located on the East Coast that I'm not aware of.

I just got back into the workout routine this semester, lifting weights and doing a couple laps around the track every other day. A buddy and I both keep a sheet where we record how many reps and the amount of weight each time, and it really shows you how much progress you've made. I used to go sometimes last year, but we didn't keep a record and after a while only started going once every week and just kinda fell out of it as things got busier. But seeing the improvements written down each week really gets you motivated to go each time and keeping lifting a little more. I've also noticed I feel a whole lot better physically when I'm in a regular routine.

I am guilty of buying too many cars. In the past three years I have owned a 1999 Grand Am, 1993 GMC Sierra, 2003 Corolla, 1985 Grand Marquis and a 2005 Acura RSX. Looking at that I have wasted too much money on cars. I have the RSX and access to my fathers Sierra (which I am beginning to love) at the current time. I want to drop the RSX in favour of a new truck, but I am going to get raked over the coals. Is there a help clinic for people like me? The only other option is to work at a car dealer and get new demos every 8000 kms!

The 'OTY' thread got me to thinking about this. In terms of credibility, lack of bias, testing procedures, judging criteria, etc, etc, who do you feel is the best automotive review source out there? A big name like MT or C&D? Something more specialized like Top Gear or EVO? Something smaller like Autoblog, TTAC, Everyday Driver? And what is your reasoning behind your choice? Keep in mind I am limiting this to testers/reviewers, not sources for reliability, quality, etc.

So, I'm an "I Have No Life Member"? What the hell is that? It seems to me it doesn't encourage ppl to post much if that's the reward for sticking around this joint. Now, if it were edited down to, say "Life Member", it might be seen as a positive thing to continue to contribute to the site.

I've been thinking lately, It'd be cool to see a page full of face pics. The object would be to pick two faces, overlay them, and let the computer blend them together to see what a "kid" would look like from those two people. Is there such a site?

So yes, I've been busy. Sorry I have been absent on here. I'm not "back" either, you probably will see very little of me in the next few weeks. Installing a water pump on my 1959 Buick for the 8th time the other day I cracked the timing chain cover so I can drive the car about 20 miles & or 30 minutes between 2 gallons fillups of H20. My STS is still not sold, it just might have to go to the junkyard tomorrow if the landlord is still having a cow. The Datsun sits in the mini-carport. Untouched, not roadworthy but still together. As far as my personal life, well I think I will keep my personal life "personal" for now, but a LOT has/is happening.…

Understand politics a little bit? I don't feel like researching, but I'd like to learn a little more UNBIASED information about politics. Where do Democrats and Republicans usually differ? I know Dems are tree humpers and Reps typically will go to war much quicker than a Dem. I honestly don't know hardly anything about this stuff and I wish I did since I can vote now. I also have to look up the people running.. whose all running to be Dem and to be Rep right now? Isn't it basically between Obama and Clinton right now for Democrats? And I only know of McCain running for Republican... Somebody, please, enlighten me.

There is a '71 Eldorado for sale in the Wal-Mart parking lot, $5000. Its red with a tan top and red leather interior. The body is really straight, the interior is in great shape, only problem I see is the rear window on the passenger side is down and I dont know why. I want it and I could probably talk my way into being permitted to buy it, but I'd have to find someone to give me a loan for at least part of it and someplace to store it.

As I drive around, of course I'm always observing vehicles around me, it's some sort of obsession I have. So I got thinking of things about current design details that so many manufacturers share. I was wondering, who was the first? A. Plastic covered bumpers B. 'Round' tailights, meaning this overdone trend of round within a larger form. C. Rear spoilers D. Huge headlights....will this ever go away? E. Wedge/triganular tailights....I have grown to dislike this shape....almost every car does it. F. Five spoke wheels...has become so generic.

It's on now....I was praying for lesbians and there were gay people on the first set. Some dude who I can't remember his name is getting knocked by the other guys on the bus because he's ugly. I love this show. Especially when gays/lesbians get on there. Usually the chicks all end up making out with each other on the bus towards the end. No offense is meant by my post...but it's a show I find entertaining.

I was watching a preview of Transformers 2 and I noticed how much I really liked the Volt. I figured I would make a topic and see how many people plan to buy the Volt at some point in time. I think it's a sharp looking car for an electric car, and I will probably eventually buy one once the price eventually gets affordable if it ever does.

Who's (on) First? It seems there's a minor collective historical shift going on. The Buick Motor Company was incorporated May 19, 1903. The Cadillac Automobile Company was incorporated August 22, 1902. With the demise of Oldsmobile, the previous longest manufacturer in the U.S., Wikipedia (and other) sources have reshuffled the criteria a bit. Wikipedia currently says this in the Cadillac entry : >>"Cadillac is currently the second oldest American automobile manufacturer behind Buick and among the oldest automobile brands in the world. Depending on how one chooses to measure, Cadillac is arguably older than Buick. Since GM has discontinued offering Oldsmobil…

Admittedly, the dude has some issues...but the "real" Harry isn't even on the site anymore. I'm sure that, with an MBA, he has to be reasonably smart, but certain "substances" evidently create the lack of coherence in some of his posts. Probably time to let it go...what do you think?

It should really be a circus this year, with irate stockholders, the board under fire, a new CEO, the angry Public outside chanting, government agents, Buickman, and of course yours truly ... So come one, come all, to the Hotel DuPont in Wilmington, DE the 1st week of June, unless they have it at the Capitol Building, in Washington, D.C. or 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue! :rotflmao:

OK, this is the current condition of these 2 rides. The finned wonder is my '59 Invicta, the other is my brother's '71 GTO 4-spd. I am head of him in the process: all metal work is completed and in epoxy primer, and the shell is back on the refurbished frame. Front & RR suspension is done, as is my rear axle. I also have a bunch of the new parts, and a bunch of cosmetically restored parts. My brother may or may not be done with metal repair- I think the floors still need work. Also, his frame is untouched yet, but there is a TON more repro parts available for the '71. He also has 2 lifts at his house We have an unofficial bet on which gets their car done first.…

So here goes. It's Friday, 2pm (got out of work early) By Saturday night I'll be finished moving out of the old place... that means ALL of my $hit has to be gone, the '59 Buick and the rest of the fleet incl. my 69-ish IH Cub Cadet are already at the new place... but I have EPIC amounts of pack ratted crap in the basement to move & he clock is ticking. (you laugh now but someday all those 1950s and 1960s Hot Rod magazines and thousands of car emblems will be worth a king's fortune!) Also, Sunday (the day it will be snowing) I will be taking my first roadtrip of 2009. We'll be headed 146 miles north to almost the Canadian border, …

Automotive News January 7, 2008 - 12:01 am ET Isn't this a wonderful time of year? Although the holidays are over and spring is still a long way off, there's a natural exuberance in the air. It's bowl time. And even though the Bowl Championship Series determines the official No. 1 college football team in the nation, frenzied fans of every winning team — sporting body paint, donning ill-fitting clothing in their school colors and shouting "We're number one, we're number one!" — can't resist the urge to make exaggerated claims and boast a little. It's like that in the auto industry, too. Bragging rights are important to car guys and their fans. There have bee…

Who's packing ERs? Not the uninsured Reuters One in five people in the United States visit an emergency room every year, and most of them have health insurance of some kind, according to a U.S. government survey released on Wednesday. The survey contradicts a common perception that emergency rooms are packed with uninsured people and illegal immigrants. It also rejects some claims that people are using the emergency department for routine care -- just 10 percent of visits were for non-urgent causes. "In 2007, approximately one in five persons in the U.S. population had one or more emergency department visits in a 12-month period," the report from the National Center f…

Coming home from the beach today, it was raining a bit. I had the intermittent wipers on. As it started to rain harder, I turned them up faster, notch by notch, until I got to the fastest intermittent speed. At the same time, I was getting out of town and speeding up on the highway. Then I thought I had a problem, until I figgered it out. As I reached 55 mph, my wipers started working continuously. If I let the car go slower than 55, they reverted back to intermittent. Cool! And an intuitively useful feature. Have you ever discovered, by accident, any cool features on your car?

By Jonathan Adams and Max Hirsch Newsweek International Aug. 20-27, 2007 issue - China's recent rise has brought with it a new conventional wisdom: that everyone must learn Mandarin. But no one's told South Korea yet. Though Chinese is increasingly popular here, the nation seems to be suffering a profound case of English fever. South Korea now boasts at least 10 "English villages"—mock Western communities complete with post offices, pharmacies and the like where kids can practice their language skills. An entire English-only town is due to open on Cheju Island in 2010. And one Internet-based company here even offers English courses for fetuses in the womb. Next door, m…
