So you open the newspaper in the morning and you see that there's been a horrible plane crash. At first this saddens you, then you see the list of names for who was involved. A sick satisfaction fills you as you read the list. So, who's on that list for you? Call me a sick bastard but I know you've thought about something like this. My planeful: Mike Harris (former Ontario leader who ruined our school system) Ann Coulter Mariah Carey Kim Il Jong Osama Let's keep this civil please.

As I mentioned in my "test drive review", I'm working to get my G6 approved now. However, my sister is the only barrier left. She insist that I need to work out the effective interest rates on my payments. I remember I did this stuff back in my engineering economics course, but that was like 2 years ago. Anyone help me out on this?

I just ran some insurance quotes over at Allstate and, I have to ask, does this make any sense to you? *1998 Chevrolet Camaro, V6, Base: $3,150.00 *1998 Pontiac Firebird, V6, Base: $2,760.00 That's right. It's pretty much the same friggen car and the Firebird comes out cheaper on insurance. (And, you know, it never occured to me until just a minute ago to see what a Firebird would cost me on insurance; I thought it would cost around $200 bucks above the Camaro.) Well, folks, looks like I may just be finding a Firebird to drive. That's not a bad insurance rate, really.

Okay... a few days ago I saw a minivan being driving by a 40s-ish guy. The catch? There was a bumper sticker on it that said "Marriage? Yes! One Man. One Woman". Ever since, I can't stop thinking that I should put my own bumper sticker on my Millenia... just... what, though? Yes, it'll be tacky, cheesy, etc... but so what? I need some way to get back at all the homophobes that drive around.

I was just thinking about this after seeing an ad for a local steakhouse. Opening up a steak, or a piece of meat, and "seeing red" makes my stomach turn. I always order it well done. All of it has to be some shade of tan/brown. Not only that, a knife has to go through it fairly easy and I don't want to wrestle with it. How do you order your steak or grilled meat?

From all of the grim crap I'm dealing with. So I thought that I'd ask a hypothetical question to get a discussion going. What if GM were to build a really small RWD car/platform? Something smaller than the Alpha. Maybe Mini-sized or a touch bigger. Can anyone come-up with some configuration ideas? Just thought it might make a good "what if" exercise.

In companion with the 'Birth Year' thread, it might be interesting to see where your 'soul' points, automotively. In my observations, it seems most car people have a fondness for cars they grew up with, or vehicles that were common when they were in their teens. Never took a scientific poll or anything, but I never fell into that category; I've always been drawn to the '57-64 American era primarily, whereas I 'grew up' around late '70s, mid 80s junk (I'm a '66 model year). My topic, my rule; if you post multiples, they have to stay within an 8-yr span of time. In my top 5 of all time :

I grew up in this kaleidoscopic multi-ethnic city, so my friend's parents, people in high school/college and neighbors provided fuel for the fire. Here's my list: Cuban - this is Ricky Ricardo talk, this is NOT a Mexican accent. I love it. It's my favorite. Iranian-Middle Eastern - perfected from LA experiences - make damn sure you leave out articles in front of nouns whenever possible. I once asked this Middle Eastern guy at a party where he was from. His response: "I leev een Bay Area." I had meant which country he came from, but that's ok. I can't drive through Concord on 680 without muttering that to myself. We'll we have the start of the labor day weekend and I just realized nothing has been posted about auto's people have seen. Today I had some good views, we will start off with a car I loved, but did not fit in very well. Cadillac Station Wagon, especially loved them in V edition. Start off with seeing an old GMC pickup that some members will love, forgot as I do not think I have seen the GMC person post in a while who loved all things GMC. Saw my first in the wild Ioniq 5, love the layout, dash and it looks very roomy inside, the center arm rest is bigger than in my SS.

Does this whole bipartisan push for clunker laws bother anyone else here? I am by no means a conservative, but this just trikes me as a huge waste of government money when we have sooo many other good current uses for the money. Plus, think of all the cars that will be crushed... Plenty of B body big cars. Think of the Caprices that could be fixed up, or the third gen Camaros, or the post 72 El-Camino's, or the decent shape GM trucks that could find a life hauling around a farmer or a mason or something. Don't like this one bit. Thoughts? Chris

There's a ton of Impalas on the road....of course it helps that there is a pretty sizable rental fleet of them too, but plenty of them are being bought as well...expect dub rims on a lot of them by January. I have a feeling the 3LT with the 17" split-star wheels will be the most popular seller, because it simply looks good stock. As far as the Civic, the coupe seems to be appearing three times as much as the sedan so far. Over at FoMoCo, I've seen three times as many Zephyrs as Fusions....and not one Milan yet. The Zephyr might be a bigger hit than we thought. Quite a few Range Rover Sports (an SUV I like) as well. The Charger's doing great...just l…

Look at it as if one of these would have trickled over into every other issue and made most of what Detroit sold us back then desirable to this day and kept the reputation at a higher level. ETN: Look at the "not building Euro/AUS models for N. America" option to also reflect North American models being so extremely different from Europe and Australian-market GM, Fords, and Chryslers.

Last week, we get 15 inches of snow, this week, it's mostly 40s and beautiful out, the only problem is there are huge puddles everywhere from the snow melting, and in the morning it's dangerous walking to class because the sidewalks are covered in ice in some places. Tomorrow was supposed to be 55 a couple days ago, now we're getting a high of 38 with rain and high winds! Then, Sunday and Monday, we're getting rain/snow! Spring cannot come soon enough. I'm tired of winter, want to be able to wear a T-shirt and shorts, and want to be able to wash the car, which is somewhat dirty even though it just sits in the garage most of the time. Damn Mother Nature!

Well I am really busy until nearly mid-June and so nothing will most likely happen between now and then but... I am thinking Cobalt/G5 Coupe with a 5spd. or a 2001-2002 GP GT Coupe. First off I think I have found basically exactly what I want, it has been for sale since early April with no offical price reduction yet. (Still same high price it was listed at.) It is a 2001 Pontiac GP GT SE Coupe in Silver with only 50K on the clock and is in very good shape (at least from the photos). I really do like the car and all the "special edition" extra's on it, problem it is nearly 500 miles away and about 1,500 more than what it is actually worth. I have emailed just to ask a few…

Seeing my older 4 Monte Carlos literally covered in dust, and sadly STILL not "on the road" for 2007, made me realize I don't have a lot more weekends to really give them a cleaning. Heck, last year, I only washed the older 4 MCs (all 4 on one Saturday) ... didn't even wax 'em. Since that isn't the "norm" for me, I hope to change that this year...we'll see. I managed to get the '87 MC LS waxed 3 times, though, last year. So far, I've cleaned and waxed the '87 MC LS once this year. Normally, I wash, wax and clean the interior of the older 4 MCs once a year. I just dust them off every so often during the rest of the time that they are out ... unless they get caught in…

POLITICAL POWERLESSNESS... Aaaaahhhhhgggg! I cannot wait until the elections are over. I'm sssooo tired of the political mailings with messages directed at FAMILIES. Whenever I read "you and your family" or some resemblance thereof, I immediately send the mailing to the circular file. The best example of this was a mailing I received earlier this week. It started out innocent enough with this sentence: "Our research shows that you, Cort XXXX, are the type of voter that candidate XXXX aims to support." I was intrigued, so I kept reading ... partially because the mailing featured a pie chart/graph and some photos. Near the end of it, though, I came across this se…

My boss has had 2 Escape 4WDs as his demos this winter, first a black Hybrid, and now an XLT V6. The few times I've gotten to drive them, I've been impressed with the solid, quiet ride on dry pavement. I asked him how the 4WD did for him in the snow, and he said he was unimpressed, said neither one felt like it was really pulling much with the rear wheels, even in deep snow where it surely would have been necessary. He said it was not like a pickup truck, where you shift it into 4WD and you can feel it work. Kind of disappointed me to hear him say that. I wonder if GM's AWD Equinox/Terrain system is similar to the Escape's in operation and in low-traction conditions …

(And it was quite fun to drive, I must say) First off, they had to put the ugliest wheel covers on the XE.....like ever. And they charge 960 bucks for A/C, 1300 bucks for a auto trans.... Then I look at an XR, only to find-for like 500 bucks more, you get a bunch more (alm wheels, a/c, better radio, steeing wheel controls..) What the heck? What is the point of the XE? Unless you don't want A/C......... Crazy stuff I tell you....

Monochromatic, a form of monochrome, is defined as: Though a form of the word 'chrome' is contained within the word, the word itself does not refer to removing chrome trim from an automobile or exchanging chromed trim pieces for those that are body-colored. That instance is referred to as exchanging chromed trim pieces for those that are body-colored. This is not monochromatic. In fact, it contains many colors. This may be considered to have a monochromatic paint scheme because the exterior paint is only one color, not multi-toned. Thank you.

I'm kinda bored if you hadn't noticed, and procrastinating a bit, but oh well. For those of you who have them, what USB flash drives do you use? I've got quite a few, some of which don't work anymore. I have a Memorex drive which I really liked, but the drive got bent so it's no good anymore. I have a Lexar 512MB Jump Drive from college...this stupid thing was like $60 from the school store. Still use it. I have a PNY attache Which I use from time to time. i got it as gift. Thi s thing is made from cheap plastic, and the case tends to slide off. I had an old 256MB one that was built better, but lost it. My other drive is a 1GB Corsair Voyager. I love this th…

Germany in call for ban on oil speculation Link: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/money/main.jhtm...26/cnoil126.xml German leaders are to propose a worldwide ban on oil trading by speculators, blaming the latest spike in crude prices on manipulation by hedge funds. It is the most drastic proposal to date amid escalating calls from Europe, the US and Asia for controls on market forces, underscoring the profound shift in the political climate since the credit crunch began. India has already suspended futures trading of five commodities. Uwe Beckmeyer, transport chief for Germany's Social Democrats, said his party would call for joint measures by the G8 powers to prohibit …

For nearly 30 years, "play ball" on an early-May Friday night in Elgin has signaled the start of another softball season for my Dad's city softball team. Friday night, May 11, was no different. Unfortunately, Dad's team lost 20-5. Elgin Ind/Jake's Pizza started off well enough ... scoring 3 runs after 2 were out in the bottom of the 1st. But, a 6-run 4th and an 11-run 5th for the visitors wiped that away. Meanwhile, for the last few years, "play ball" on an early-May Tuesday night in Elgin has meant the start of the softball season for my brother-in-law's co-ed team. Tuesday night, May 8, they started the season with a 16-1 win. Tempco scored 2 in the 1st, 3 in the…

I was walking down the street with a friend of mine in Toronto and this woman approached us and gave us some free passes for an advanced screening of "World Trade Center". I wasn't too keen on seeing this movie, as I was kind of worried that it would be more flag-waving sappy drivel like "Pearl Harbor" (the movie). Since my friend wanted to go, and we didn't have anything better to do, I let her convince me. I missed the very beginning (probably about 5 minutes), so I didn't get to see how they treated the actual event. However, this movie was not what I expected. This was much more a personal story about three people and how them and their families were affected that …

I was very happy to read about this. Evidently, Deutsche Lufthansa (der flying gestapo :AH-HA_wink: don't get me started) has signed orders for about a dozen new Boeing 747-800s. Others are placing orders mostly for the freighter version, but British and other Asian carriers may place some orders, as there is a historical trend to buy Boeing. That would be cool. And why not? The technology is known, the infrastructure is there and it's a beauty. The area where Boeing knows they have had to make strides is in economy, material weight and quietness of operation ("Quiet Tuning," anybody?). The ugly Airbus 380 is noticeably quieter than any '47s to date, judging from…

A couple of months ago I bought a new set of trimmers, a real upgrade over my last set. Well the book said I could give myself a haircut with them, so I got a brilliant idea. Except... I had the guard set too short. Too late! Now I feel like Britney Spears on a bad mental-health day.

As I browsed the various automotive news websites for my daily virtual reading, something hit me. It was a bit of deja-vu from looking over an image. I'm not certain, but it may have been an image of the Subaru WRX STi from the numerous first tests everyone published. Why it hit me now, I haven't the slightest clue. I started digging to find the source. Soon enough, I found what brought on this repetitive phenomenom. What started out as a couple vehicles here and there soon morphed into many. In fact, by the end, I was able to find hints of this design feature in nearly every manufacturer's lineup. All the big automotive names... like GM, Ford, Volkswagen, BMW, Toyota, Ho…

4-1-07/ GM Headquarters: Today, Rick Wagoner has announced an unanomous decision to cancel all further production of the GMC Acadia. "With the Saturn Outlook and the upcoming Chevrolet Lambda (called "Criuse," just announced today) on the roads, and GMC being known for a tough-truck brand, it will be pulled from the production line." There is a rumor that a replacement, supposedly more rigid and GMC-like, according to insiders, is expected to debut at the Frankfurt show. Recalls for the Acadia are planned to start Tuesday, along with production halt. "The idea of pulling the Acadia off the market is probably a good idea, for GMC's sake and its reputation." Bob Lutz …

You bound up the steps into the gym two at a time, show the front desk chick your member number, and make your way down to the locker room to change. You're so ready to get on that stepper and show it who's boss. 20 minutes on the stepper, no problem. You stop at the water fountain for a sip, in your regular routine, then wash your hands and head back upstairs, two at a time, full of energy. You're no newbie. You mix it up a bit on the apparatus, suavely making your way around the room with a professional, seasoned face. You can't help but glance around at a few attractive people, but your brow remains furrowed, intent on working your muscles, building a better body…

1961 Pontiac Tempest Well, winter beater/daily driver. It's such a departure from the land barges I'm into, but I've been looking to get into something old for a daily driver and the little four-banger might be a fun alternative to having a modern gas sipper. Seems cheap for what it is if the description is accurate, too. Any thoughts?

The Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation estimates that in an average year the adult entertainment industry — which is headquartered primarily in Southern California — registers total sales of $12.6 billion. Recently Larry Flynt, head of the Hustler empire, and Joe Francis, the man behind the “Girls Gone Wild” series, requested a $5 billion bailout from Congress. Is it that bad out there? The rest of the nation is reeling from a severe economic downturn. Yet the conventional wisdom about the adult entertainment business is that it is recession-proof. And that thinking is consistent with the behavior of mainstream Hollywood. In times of economic …

Hey guys, So I've decided that the northeast, and especially the NYC area, is just getting too pricey for my tastes. I've been feeling that way for a while but couldn't really think of where I might consider relocating to since everyone I know lives in this area and I’m not keen on the idea of moving somewhere on my own just for a change of pace. My family situation has finally given me another direction to consider. My parents and my brother and his family (wife and 3 kids) are relocating to Charlottesville VA. They have lived together for the last seven years to their mutual advantage since my dad has MS and he and my mom need help around the house while my brothe…

So I've got someone's computer they asked me to look at (completely computer illiterate) and it's got this lovely error on startup "operating system not found" That's all it does...there's no options to enter setup or anything. I'm guessing HD or motherbaord. It's a strange computer. It's Dell case but the boot screen is HP, and it has two HDs. I'm not sure what the person who built it for him did, lol. I was just curious what you guys think is more likely. If it's not enough info, I don't have much else beyond it shows the HP logo and the goes to the error. I'm gonna pull out the two HDs and see if I can access them on my computer. Just wanted to know if you guys …

As of August 28th, 2006, I have a vehicle. No more borrowing this car or that car. I mentioned this in another thread. Here's what I said. Well, I bothered to ask today about it and the truck is mine for certain. He's never asking for it back. I can't say I blame him. Before I start getting into why I just said that, let me go around describing the truck first. The Indigo Blue Metalliac 1998 Chevrolet S10 LS regular cab with the 2.2 liter four and 5-speed manual I've been handed has the mid-level gray cloth upholstery and a CD player. The truck is equipped similar to 1999's Survival Pak S10s, although this truck doesn't have it. Now, I won't start making a long par…

On Fall Sundays, I usually get the urge to cook something. This evening for dinner I made meatballs to put in with pasta sauce and shells. I baked them in a cooking bag... but darn it, I made too many. What do you guys do with your extra balls? I guess I could make gravy for them and serve them over noodles, or I could buy some sub rolls and put some pizza sauce and mozzarella on top for a meatball sandwich. Any other idears?

OK, this may seem a strange thing to say at 10:00 AM but I am having a hard time getting to sleep. I work graveshift and Friday mornings are always hard for me to get to sleep since I am thinking about the weekend. So, here I sit at the computer on my favorite forum, having a beer and some whiskey. Hopefully, this won't last long and I will feel ready for some much needed rest. (Last night was a pain)

One of the highlights of the car hobby for me is the Ocean City, MD Spring cruise-in. It is a spectacular event, a Spring break-out of every kind of hot rod, muscle car, and everything in between automotive. I just reserved a room at the Rehoboth Beach Guest House (closest I could get to OC, everything's full there by now), so I'm set. I'm wondering if anyone from C&G is planning on going, maybe we can meet up. Here's a link: http://www.specialeventpro.com/cruisin.php
