Buick

Founded in 1903 by David Dunbar Buick, Buick is one of America’s oldest automobile brands and the oldest active division of General Motors (GM). Known for pioneering innovations like the overhead valve engine, Buick became a symbol of affordable luxury throughout the 20th century. It played a key role in GM’s growth and today positions itself between Chevrolet and Cadillac, offering premium vehicles in both the U.S. and China—its largest market.

I can't stand reading about Buick sales being down when writers don't analyze the reasons. Buick has fewer models. 10 years ago Buick had several models. For 2006 they offered only 5: Lucerne, LaCrosse, Rendezvous, Rainier and Terrazza, all with various trims. In 1996 they offered 11 models, with various trims. This is why sales are down. I know Buick is now part of the BPG channel, but they could use a few more models. 1. a convertible/coupe, bigger than the Pontiac g-6, more upscale, a real head turner. 2. a smaller SUV to go with the bigger Enclave. 3. a LaCrosse wagon. 1996 Buicks Park Avenue LeSabre Century Century Wagon Re…

GM Expects 40% Conquest Rate with Enclave When the 2008 Buick Enclave goes on sale next year, General Motors Corp. expects up to 40% of the new SUV's customers to come from other automakers, Steve Shannon, Buick's general manager, said Thursday. GM has not revealed pricing for the midsize model, which uses a car-like structure to provide better fuel economy, more room and more comfort than traditional SUVs like the Chevrolet TrailBlazer. However, the Enclave's targets, the upscale -- but smaller -- Acura MDX and Lexus RX350, have base prices of $39,995 and $37,400, respectively. Detroit Free Press

Well, I just came back from a 400mi trip in the Lexus ES 350 and here are my thoughts. 1) At 75mph, the Lexus ES has SIGNIFICANTLY more wind noise than a "Quiet Tuned" Lucerne. 2) The ES has a lot of road noise on coarse pavement, more than a Lucerne on any pavement I drove on. 3) Stomp the throttle for passing and the ES gives a muted howl, its much quieter than the Lucerne at WOT. So I stand by my words, the Lucerne is a quiet car on the highway, provided you don't get on the gas much. The Lucerne needs an engine as quiet as the Lexus ES to fit my definition of "quiet tuning."

Like much of the "buff press," he writes like his real-world car buying experience is limited to what mommy and daddy drive. Cars in the real world are about more than how fast you can go around a downhill corner. There's also, among other things, comfort for a family (not just your girlfriend) and overall value to consider. If these auto writers (what are Mehta's qualifications anyway?) had their way we'd all be driving around in kidney jarring, hard perched, over-engineered and over-priced Euro traps. In their recent Road Test, comparing the Toyota Avalon, Hyundai Azera and Volkswagen Passat, one thing was glaringly absent -- the Buick Lucerne. For a car that is comparable in every single point of analysis, I can think the desire to match that cool throwback photo from the 1970's the only reason they left it out. But they didn't completely ignore it. When the Azera placed third in the comparion, MT was quick to point out that this car - outsold by the Lucerne nearly 5x over - "was eating Buick's lunch." The four-door, front-drive midsize sedan will be powered by the same 5.3-liter, 303-hp V8 found in the Chevrolet Impala SS. The Super features a bolder version of the signature Buick grille and a larger, chrome-trimmed rear bumper along with a more luxurious interior. Other upgrades include standard 18-inch alloy wheels, four-wheel ventilated disc brakes and MagneRide suspension. GM says 0 to 60 mph will be less than 6.0 seconds." I often wondered if I ever found a new car in Vancouver I liked whether I could buy it and bring it back down over the border. Is that doable? Why or why not?

The website leftlane news.com is reporting that GM's application to use the name "Invicta" on a new Buick model is "dead" as of March 21, 2006. As they explained it, "Sometimes, automakers scrap applications entirely. Other times it cannot obtain the rights to the name . . . Just recently, there were rumors that the new Zeta-platform-based Buick sedan would be called the 'Invicta.' However, GM’s outspoken Bob Lutz said the car would be called the 'Statesman.' Looks like Mr. Lutz was right."

Anyway, these appear to have not too great depreication (aka great prices w/relatively low miles) but they don't look half-bad. Nice, classy exterior; comfortable-looking interior and the supercharged Ultra = sleeper possibilities. No one ever suspects the Park Avenue...

I went to the dealership last week to have the left front door check replaced on my 2006 Buick Lucerne which came cracked. While there I mentioned a problem I noticed especially prominent in city driving. When turning (especially to the left) I could feel something like a gear slipping. This was very hard to describe but felt pronounced in the steering wheel but no sound involved. When I left they told me there would probably be a recall on this when the problem was corrected. The service sheet said: BULLETIN #06-02-35-009 STATES NOT TO REPLACE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT OR STEERING GEAR. PERFORMED STEPS 1 - 5 AS PER BULLETIN. UNABLE TO REACH ENGINEERING AS IN STEP 6.…

I happen to like the LaCrosse, but sales are down the past couple of months. It also gets some unfair criticism in the media, called bland by some. Bland=Camry. Anyway, what changes could be made before the '07 models start rolling out? More chrome? Portholes? I saw a picture somewhere of a LaCrosse with portholes (ebay I think) and it looked cool. My dealer told me some dealerships are putting the portholes on.

Being new here I would like to know if anyone knows why no one ever finds a ming blue LeSabre or now the new Lucerne? My first choice was ming blue for my new Lucerne CXL but there was none anywhere.... I also have never seen this color in the LeSabre which I had previously. If this color is never used then why is it in the lineup? I think it makes a very regal looking automobile and especially would look great on the Lucerne. I did not want to wait to order one in the ming blue so got my second choice of Crimson Pearl... Just thought someone might have some statistics on this! Thanks!

I just received the most recent edition of Motor Trend and they tested the big 3 large V6 American sedans (no Avalon or Azera). 1: Chrysler 300 2: Buick Lucerne 3: Mercury Montego I figured they would rate the Montego higher based on what the article said. Apparently, the Montego had the nicest interior of the bunch and handled well, too. It even beat the Lucerne to 60MPH and it had AWD. The 300 ended up being the most well rounded of the bunch.

I personally think the Buick is best suited taking on Toyota, Nissan & Honda. Buick would be wise to compete directly against these big brands. Today, Buick is ripe to take a big chunk out of a market the grosses at least 4 million in sales every year. So, Buick could make a killing. Buick's Advantages Are: 1)Award Winning Quality 2)Established Premium Creditials. 3)A Large Dealer Network 4)Plenty of Oppurtunity to expand into new segments. 5)Is Cross-shopped largely by Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Mercury, Chrysler, & other premium brand buyers. 6)A rapidly decling median buyer age. It declined from 74 to 69 from the late '90s to the early '00s. It is likely e…

It had these very nice chrome buick rims and all the chrome accents offered by GM. After the walkaround the salesman gav…
